Chicken Satay
Tumblr media
Hi there, tombler!
It’s a perfect day to do some outdoor grilling and we’re making sate ayam (translated to "chicken satay" in English!). Satay is an umbrella term for diced meat/protein in a skewer which then grilled over a charcoal fire. The dish is popular throughout Southeast Asia and is even one of the topic of perpetual discourse between Indonesia and Malaysia (Malaysians please don't come at me).
Even though the most popular version of satay in Indonesia (and probably worldwide) is the chicken satay with peanut sauce, satay in Indonesia actually varies from using chicken, beef, lamb, pork, even seafood like oyster and squid. Same goes with the sauce -- not all satay are paired with peanut sauce; some comes with sliced chilies and soy sauce, some with vinegar or other sour ingredients, and some with none at all. In particular, sate padang or Padang-style satay is paired with thickened up beef and offal broth.
Tumblr media
Anyway, today we’re cooking (or, grilling) the renowned chicken satay with peanut sauce. The CC recipe made by @icemunmun-spicy-scalpel (click here to download the recipe). I totally forgot to mention it but the amazing Icemunmun also created custom plants which you can use as ingredients for their recipes. In this recipe, if you have her lemongrass plant CC, you can use it for cooking the recipe. As always, don't forget to also install Custom Food Interactions for the recipe to appear in your game. As this recipe is a grilled goods, you can also click on your grill to find the chicken satay recipe.

Satay skewers are traditionally grilled over charcoal or wood fire, with the cook consistently fanning the grill to control the heat. It's a running joke that what makes the satay tasty is actually the cook’s sweat dripping into the grill. 🤭 -- because even with the same protein, same marination, same grill, and even the same fan; some people grills better satay than others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Halfway through the grilling part, Stella re-marinates the skewers with a mixture of sweet soy sauce, oil, and white paste (I mentioned about the Indonesian base pastes on my ayam penyet post here). The main purpose of this re-marination is to keep the protein juicy and to make sure the marinade seep well into the meat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's the perfect afternoon munchies for the Osh Coush B'Gosh boys to snack on after they finish the game tournament.
Tumblr media
Chicken satay (especially the one paired with peanut sauce) is best served with lontong, as shown in the picture above (click here to go to my lontong post). The creamy peanut sauce coating well on the lontong slices is just a heavenly sight for us Indonesians. See you next time, and 'til then, dag dag!
P.S. Detailed information and history about satay is taken from this Wikipedia page.
Imomiso’s note: This post is originally posted on the now deleted blog. I was able to retrieve this post thanks to @icemunmun-spicy-scalpel reblogging the post on her Tumblr 🤍

Hi there Cal. Love your outfit by the way! I wonder if you have been to a bunch of tropical islands in a region far to the east of Greece. I think the locals call it Nusantara or something. Have you met the people there? What do you think of them?
Well! Back in my day, they called these islands "Atlantis", though scholars of your time refer to it as "Sundaland."
I have a hymn written just about this, actually!

I haven't been there in a while though! Perhaps a visit is in order~

the other day i was thinking about how i would want to travel the world when i have money of my own but that long flights sound like a nightmare (my longest flight ever was like 3 hours i think) so i came up with this fun game in which i looked up how much it would take me to circumnavigate the world using exlusively short flights.
so, that's what i did. first of all, rules and disclaimers:
-all flights have to be around 3 hours long (so no longer than 4 hours).
-they also have to be direct flights
-i more or less counted travel time between connections to make it as realistic as possible, tho with the final schedule i would barely get some rest and it would be cool to visit some of the cities i'd fly to so in an ideal world where this would be feasable, i'd make it longer and with more time to sleep and do tourism i think.
-despite trying to follow everything, unfortunately i didn't take into account how freaking large oceans are, so the flights in the pacific and the atlantic will unfortunately be over 4 hours long. i tried looking for the shortest flights tho, so they're not ridiculously long either.
anyways, the schedule i would follow is below the cut:
in total, i would have to take 18 planes in 10 days:
madrid (MAD) - athens (ATH): 3 hours 25 minutes, Aegean Airlines, 12:40-17:05.
athens (ATH) - tbilisi (TBS): 2 hours 40 minutes, Aegean Airlines, 00:10-03:50.
tbilisi (TBS) - almaty (ALA): 3 hours 35 minutes, Air Astana, 22:20-02:55.
almaty (ALA) - delhi (DEL): 3 hours 25 minutes, Air Astana, 10:05-14:00.
delhi (DEL) - dhaka (DAC): 2 hours 25 minutes, Air India, 17:05-20:00.
dhaka (DAC) - kuala lumpur (KUL): 3 hours 55 minutes, Batik Air Malaysia, 23:00-04:55
kuala lumpur (KUL) - brunei (BWN): 2 hours 30 minutes, Royal Brunei, 12:10-14:35
brunei (BWN) - manila (MNL): 2 hours 15 minutes, Royal Brunei, 11:55 - 14:10
manila (MNL) - guam (GUM): 3 hours 55 minutes, United Airlines, 22:25-04:20
guam (GUM) - pohnpei (PNI): 2 hours 30 minutes, United Airlines, 20:25-23:55
pohnpei (PNI) - majuro (MAJ): 2 hours 10 minutes, United Airlines, 15:20-18:30
majuro (MAJ) - honolulu (HNL): 4 hours 40 minutes, United Airlines, 19:30-02:10
honolulu (HNL) - san francisco (SFO): 5 hours 01 minutes, United Airlines, 07:00-15:01
san francisco (SFO) - dallas (DFW): 3 hours 35 minutes, American Airlines, 17:00-22:35
dallas (DFW) - new york city (LGA): 3 hours 35 minutes, Spirit Airlines, 05:33-10:08

The B-52D Stratofortress!  This and the C-124 across from it are the first two planes you notice when you walk into this hangar, and for good reason.  This plane is massive.
The B-52 first flew in 1952, was introduced in 1955, and was in production until 1962.  These aircraft are still in use by the USAF today.  While their official nickname is the Stratofortress, they carry the informal nickname of BUFF, which stands for Big Ugly Fat Fucker (or Fella, if you want to be polite about it).  They can fly 8,338 miles without refueling and can carry over 60,000 lbs of bombs.  In January of 1957, three B-52Bs achieved the first non-stop around-the-world flight by jet craft.  These flights lasted 45 hours and 19 minutes and required only three aerial refuelings.  Imagine being up in the air for 45 hours!

My first piece posted here is from my original bl novel, The Would-Be Lakan! This isn't a character who appears so much as is mentioned.
This is Datu Kahukom Kato Kaalitan, father to Datu Bakay Kato Kaalitan and Ginoong Abayan Kato Kaalitan.
He may be beefy and clearly a warrior king but he's actually a kind and gentle father!

So, it's apparently been a year since I drew Eeksha (top) and Elayaraj's (bottom) portraits! I'm not going to post the first portraits because they're not bad, but they're meh in comparison to these haha! I thought I'd use this opportunity to talk about these two again (:
These two are the main characters in the book I'm writing. The book is heavily in the planning / development phase, so I have no idea when it would possibly be published (it doesn't even have a title bc idk what to title it ;v;). That aside my story is based in a Southeast Asian fantasy setting with Anitu as the gods and humans (named kawatao) walk amongst other fantastical creatures / beings.
Eeksha is the Anitu of Chaos, out for revenge against the other Anitu for sealing them away thousands of years ago. Don't let their soft face fool you ;v;
Elayaraj is a Kinnara Ba'walonan (the term I created for shamans/Babaylan in the Philippines). The snake around his neck is Charoenratsumi (Charoen or Charumi for short) and she's his spirit guide.
