Angled Opalian

Someone who is a mlm, mlnb, nblm, and nblnb, meaning someone who is non-binary and a man who is attracted to men and non-binary individuals, while also being both ace-spec and aro-spec.

Oriented Opalian

An aromantic asexual (aroace) individual that is non-binary and a man who experiences a form of tertiary attraction towards men and non-binary individuals that they feel is significant enough to warrant a place alongside their aroace orientation.

The flags were made by combining existing flags. Credit for the original flags that inspired these go to: Angled aroace flag by black-aros, oriented aroace flag by @biaroace, and opalian flag by @nlmgalaxy.

This might be slightly controversial to some people but as an aroace person one thing that I dislike that some people do is when they take an already confirmed-to-be-otherwise-lgbtq character (bi, pan, gay, pan, etc) and make them a loveless aroace. Most of the time it's because they dislike a ship for the character or their canon love interest, and SO OFTEN it's allo people doing that, pretending to "care" about aroace representation but just giving us bad rep by erasing others' representation. I've seen it happen with every sexuality and relationship but it's especially prevalent when it's a canonically bi or pan character in a m/f ship, like, guys, we can't erase someone's identity just because they "seem" straight to you, they're still canonically bi/pan regardless and that entails liking people of the opposite gender as well.

Headcanonning a character as an angled/oriented aroacespec in addition to their canon identity is totally fine of course, and like any other aroace I'm starved for any representation in fiction and love to take/project onto whatever I can, but headcanonning a character as aroace while erasing their other lgbtq identities... not okay.

This applies in the opposite direction as well, I HATE when people take canonically loveless aroace characters and make them some other lgbt identity and just use "aroaces can be oriented ❤️" as an excuse just to ship them romantically with some other character, or because the aroace character doesn't feel "cool enough" as just aroace to them. Like, yes, aroaces can be oriented but GOD FORBID a character is simply a loveless aroace and exists without relationships! Horror to some people!

Can someone who’s arospec and aspec but not fully ace or aro identify as oriented aroace? Or is oriented aroace specific to people who are fully aro and/or ace? Like, I’m wondering if it even makes sense to use this term if I experience some romantic and/or sexual attraction, even if it’s only in specific ways and in specific circumstances.

As far as I know, oriented aroace is meant to be a label specific to fully aroace people. There is another term called angled aroace for aroacespec folks! That might be something worth looking into.
