The Mate in Soulmate

The red string of fate, how wondrous. A red cord tied around your little finger that connects you to the one person you are meant to be with. Your soulmate.

But you followed it once, followed it to its end. You found someone a person, they looked into your eyes and you looked into theirs. Their eyes started to fill with tears and faint smile gracing their lips. And then you ran.

You turned around and ran. Back the way you came, putting as much distance between you both and quickly as you can. You collapse, back running down a sandstone wall as you fall to the ground, rocks digging through your clothing and into your skin.

Your face feels hot, and then it feels wet. This person scared you, not because of who they were or what they looked like. But because of what they stood for. This is the person you’re to spend your life with. Completely devoted and inseparable.

The person who you are meant to love. 

Romantically.

And that makes you feel ill. That was never something your though about, never something you could see yourself doing. Something you would be quite happy living without. But seeing that person meant truly facing it; you don’t want it. The idea is so foreign to you that you can barely imagine it and when you can it makes you feel so uncomfortable. An itch under your skin telling you to run, telling you this isn’t right.

So you sit, unmoving as your tears fall onto the pavement. Crying as you realise that you have to if you don’t want to let people down. Those who choose other people over their soulmates are scorned and those is choose to ignore their soulmate are deemed self-centred and narcissistic.

You can’t win, choosing yourself means disappointing everyone around you and facing their scorn. But choosing to be with your soulmate means you will forever be unsatisfied and uncomfortable.

“Are you alright?” A voice cuts through your thoughts, dragging you back to the present, “Did I do something wrong?”

It’s your soulmate, they sit down next to you and stare out into the distance.

“I don’t know about you, but I was really worried about meeting my soulmate.” They begin, speaking slowly with long drawn out breaths, “I was worried I would end up with someone who would expect more of me than I could give. You don’t know how happy that white ring of yours made me.”

You glance up, through your tears to look them in the eyes.

“That fact that I’m aromantic doesn’t bother you?” You ask, voice soft and towards the ground.

“I would be more bothered if you weren’t.” You soulmate speaks, eyes shining as they look at you, “Oh, sorry. I’m greyromantic demisexual myself, so I really doesn’t bother me.”

You breath in, air shaky, “So, could we be some sort of queerplatonic? I’ve always wanted that.”

“Ask for my name first!” Your soulmate shouts, then they chuckle and you join them. Your back still dug into the sandstone wall, it still hurts. But maybe everything will be okay.

OKAY SO

A longass time ago I saw a post here on tumblr where somebody had designed anatomical heart pixel art in multiple pride flag colours and I cross-stitched this

based on their art, but I never posted it bc I couldn't find the original post again and I wanted to credit the artist

So now, ages later, I'm posting it anyway to ask: Does anybody know who designed the pixel heart so I can credit them properly??
