Peter Anderson: Hi, my name is Peter Anderson. I'm from Peter Anderson Studio and we created the title sequence to Good Omens Season Two. So this scene is quite literally a continuation from Season One.

An interesting detail with this scene is the fly. The fly is significant because it stores Gabriel's memory.

Gabriel is hidden in every scene. This is the first time we see it.

This goat is half bird, half goat, representing a mistake in a moment of transformation.

In the pickled herring barrel, we have literally red herrings sticking out.

A lot of the gravestones have hidden engravings, easter eggs, all written by Neil.

[This one says: HERE LIES THE FORMER SHELL OF BEELZEBUB referncing Beelzebub having a new face in S2 :), another ones are: EVERYDAY, JANE AUSTEN, Here lies ADAM (the Adam from Adam and Eve is meant)]

Another hidden Gabriel.

Our same character that was trying to escape Hell in Season One titles is also trying to escape here, moving in the opposite direction to the rest of the procession. Except this time he's apprehended and dragged back into the procession.

Our Hell spider from episode four makes a little appearance in the background here.

Can you tell where the bus is going? Director Douglas McKinnon selected Powell and Pressburger's Stairway to Heaven to put on the billboard.

Another thing to note here is the type is all handmade specifically for Good Omens. The Alphabet only exists within the show.

The big floating turnip is a nod to Azirafel's magic tricks.

We've updated our flags to reference some of the plotlines in Season Two. For example, The Second Coming.

The movie poster artwork changes every week, representing the episode plotlines and the minisodes. We made the posters to look like the time period and in this case we've got a Good Omens version of Buddy Holly.

Moo

Cows are so fun. I don’t own cows, I’ve never lived on a farm.

But I have lived in a place where the garden meets a cow field.

Things we have found:

If you start tossing cut grass or leaves over the fence and say ‘Yum Yum!’, there’s always one of the pasture puppies who’s amenable to learning. And when the other cows see her perk up and sprint off to the hedge, they’ll follow.

Cows are happy to run if there’s something nice they want.

Cows will naturally all come and stare at something new. This is predator inspection behaviour. It’s why they come to look at you if you stand there singing or playing accordion.

It takes one cow who’s brave enough or casual enough about people to lean in and take a handful of comfrey for the rest to designate you as a friendly

Cows recognise you.

Cows are also willing to stand there and yell at you if you’re gardening to remind you that all that lush grass and stuff is y’know food.

If you stand in the field and ignore them, eventually one will lick you in case you’re salty. This is somehow a surprise. It’s even more of a surprise if you’re gardening and there’s a hole in the hedge that they know about, but you don’t know about.

If it’s summer, cows are surprisingly OK with being watered from a watering can.

Bored cows love playing with things that move. Like if you had a weather vane on the wall. And you find the cows are spinning it with their tongues.

If you have floor to ceiling windows that face the field, they will come and watch you watching TV.

While it’s never a good idea to walk into a field, because one of the cows might be a Bull, and their entire thing is being horny meat torpedoes… Some bulls are actually surprisingly mellow.

And have a good sense of humor.

Also never try pushing a bull out of the way in his own field (Because you were playing with your metal detector and didn’t realise the big wet nose that keeps sliding under your arm is not a young heiffer). It’s rude! Also the bull may decide that a game of Shove is really fun, and he’s a lot bigger than you. Alternatively, while that may be a brief and terrifying moment for you, I assure you everyone who’s watching is very entertained.

Watching an on-going disagreement between a fence builder and a bull who is channelling Bugs Bunny is extremely entertaining.

If you let your tree grow for shade n’ shelter, the cows will be very grateful, but will still yell at you for not throwing food at them.

A.S.A. Octonauts Headcanons:

Pt. 2 — Barnacles Pt. 1:

Childhood & Younger Years . . . ft. Barnacles’ sister Bianca

His full name is Barnacles Dour Seaver II, he was named after his (now) late father.

Bianca’s real name is Sedna Denali Seaver and was named after her great great grandmother. But when she went to college in the UK no one could pronounce it so she changed it to Bianca.

Her mother happened to do the same thing at her age because of the social standards of having a “normal” name.

Barnacles respects his sister’s wishes to call her Bianca, at least in public, so Sedna has become more of a family used name.

Barnacles grew up in their family Lighthouse with Bianca, his mother Beatrice, as well as their father and grandfather. The lighthouse was built by his ancestors to help wayward boats up north and has been cared for, for over ten generations.

Their family actually has native blood running through them, and have always lived quietly beside the ocean. Only when the lighthouse was built did they officially settle down. Before that they were travelers and participated in special hunting traditions and ceremonies.

In order to continue those traditions Barnacles’ family, as well as many others, meet together once a year to hunt on the sea ice.

Their father was a trades/fisherman within the markets of the north. Unfortunately one year their father’s ship disappeared in a horrible storm when Bianca and Barnacles were only seven.

Their grandfather eventually died some weeks later from heartbreak. That’s when their Auntie Juliette decided to come live with them. Their mother got very sick due to her own ailing heart, forcing the twins to grow up faster than they should’ve in order to take care of their mother.

Natquik, in his own way, became the father Barnacles needed and was always there when it was most important, especially when it came to the rest of his family. It’s because of Natquik that Barnacles was inspired to join the military (or in this case the navy).

Natquik was the one to teach him how to play the Accordion.

A few months after his father disappeared Barnacles fell into the ice hole, it was a very vulnerable time for him. It took several hours for the scouts to get Barnacles out, even then they were still forced to get their scout leaders because of how unstable the ground was, as well as the lack of supplies. He was always grateful to them, especially his sister who refused to leave him behind.

Because of where they lived they had very few friends growing up, and most of them were polar bears. Boris was the first friend he ever made that lived in the ocean, sparking his curiosities about the world beneath the waves.

He did his best to work hard in his studies, hoping to grow his knowledge on the ships that sailed past his little island home.

Barnacles and Bianca made a pact when they were kids that they would always be there for one another no matter where they went in the world. And they keep that promise to this very day.

Barnacles joined the navy as soon as he was old enough while Bianca went off to study English and Social Sciences in London.

By that time a Professor by the name of Lwazi Ntuli had created specialized suits for creatures who otherwise wouldn’t be able to breathe/function in places that weren’t their natural territory. And to test them they were given out to those who earned scholarships from out of the way places such as the Arctic, Antarctic, the seas/ocean, etc, etc.

While studying abroad Bianca rekindled her relationship with an old friend (another polar bear) who was also studying in London at the time. After some odd years they fell in love and married, he eventually became Orson and Ursa’s father.

Unfortunately only a few months after Bianca announced that she was expecting, they got in a car accident and her husband passed away within an hour of arriving at the hospital.

Barnacles didn’t find out until after the twins were born. It shattered his heart to see his sister like this, and he promised himself that it would never allow himself to loose contact again.

Bianca and the twins now live with her mother Beatrice and Auntie Juliette in the lighthouse. Bianca now plans to raise them as she works on her novels. While Barnacles is set to protect the world, Bianca is preparing to take on the role of lighthouse keeper to protect the ships that her ancestors were so keen to watch over.

The Past 💛 Atlas

As I approach the club, the bass is already thumping from the floor above. Despite the cold, they have the large floor-to-ceiling accordion doors open wide to allow the air to flow for the dancers and DJ. Something I’m sure I’ll be grateful for later.

I notice Ash first, his back is to me with his teal hair practically glowing in the neon lights. He’s standing with Lex and a few of her friends in a circle on the side of the building. I met Lex’s friends once before at a concert last year, but I don’t remember any of their names. They all seem nice enough, but it wasn’t exactly the environment to get to know them, and I doubt tonight will be any different.

“Atlas!!” Lex squeals and runs toward me at full speed when she notices me walking up. I smile and brace myself as she jumps up and attaches herself to me, squeezing the air from my lungs. “I’m so happy you came!”

“Happy Birthday!” I say when she releases her grip, and I set her back on her feet.

“Thank you. Now, give me your hand,” she demands. I do as she says, and she places a small tablet in the center of my palm.

“Aha, what did you bring?” I ask, but she just smiles and pulls on my arm, leading me to the rest of the group.

I wave hello to everyone as we approach, and then sidle up next to Ash and lean into him to say, “Hey.”

He looks up at me and smiles, “Glad you could make it.”

“Did you take one of these?” I ask, showing him the tablet Lex gave me.

“Not yet,” he says, “still deciding if I want to.”

“I’m only going to take half if you want to split it with me.”

“Yeah, actually, that’s a good idea. I hate getting too fucked up.”

“Me too,” I say as I bite the edge of it, careful not to bite it directly in half because I know it will crumble a bit anyway. The flavor is incredibly bitter, almost too much even for me. I feel a little guilty handing the other half to Ash and watching his face twist up as he swallows it.

One of Lex’s friends, a petite girl with a blonde pixie cut and glitter covering her eyelids, hands us her water bottle, “Here, you guys can finish it.”

“Thank you,” I say sincerely. She is now my favorite. “Remind me what your name is?”

“Blair,” she smiles and points to herself

“Right, thank you, Blair.” I take a small sip of water, just enough to wash away whatever crumbs are left behind in my mouth, and then hand the bottle to Ash who happily chugs the rest.

“Thank you so much,” he says to Blair before walking over to toss the bottle in the recycle bin.

Once inside, we stop at the counter to check our jackets with a bubbly woman who is offering everyone a Starburst from a bowl placed conveniently next to a tip jar complete with a QR code to tip digitally if you don’t have cash. I don’t touch the candy, but I do leave a generous tip when I hand her my favorite zip-up hoodie. She hands me back a numbered stub, and I take a photo of it with my phone before shoving it into my pocket, just in case.

I turn to step aside and make room for the others but stop when I see Ash pulling his hoodie up over his head. His t-shirt is stuck to it causing it to rise up and expose the bare skin of his waist. My brain short-circuits, all thoughts leaving my mind aside from the image of wrapping my hands around that waist, of getting on my knees and— “Ow!”

Lex pinches the back of my arm, snapping me back to reality. I look over at her and she points at me, her eyes squinting to a glare behind her glasses, clearly in best-friend-protection mode. “What was that for?” As if I don’t already know. She’s forgiven me for the way I hurt Ash before but obviously not forgotten.

“Don’t play dumb with me. I’m watching you.”

I hold my hands up in surrender, “You have nothing to worry about, I promise.”

“Mhm,” is all she says before turning away and hooking arms with Ash as they walk up the stairs.

Captain Barnacles:

Just everyone’s Dad™

All of them, except for Professor Inkling has called him Dad at least once. He doesn’t mind.

Nobody has ever seen him cry.

He spends one on one time with each of the crew members whenever he can (typically once a week with each of them).

Sings in the shower

Showers in the morning

Has pretty strict routines, but can also be flexible, given the unpredictability of life as an Octonaut

His birthday is in October. (I Googled when that flower that blooms every twelve years does so, to see if I could narrow down what time of year his birthday is. Apparently, the peak blooming period is in September/October and with OCTOber, I figured it fits!)

If anybody on the Octopod were to go to his room and tell him they had a nightmare, he would let them sleep with him. (The only ones who do are Peso and the Vegimals.)

Sort of a joke headcanon, but I'mma add it anyway: He has reoccurring dreams about playing his accordion on stage, with hundreds of adoring fans cheering for him.

Kwazii:

ADHD

Not just afraid of spiders, but needles too (not that he’d ever admit it!)

Often takes the GUP-B out just for the fun of it, but will also do so to get out of something (normally cleaning or when the Captain’s playing his accordion)

His satchel is a comfort item and a seemingly bottomless pit. If you see him pull things out of it, you’ll think, Wow! How did you fit all that in there?

Mother calls him Shelly; she’s the only one who does so

(I can’t remember where I saw this theory, but I think it makes a lot of sense.) In addition to marine biology, he has an interest in linguistics. That’s how he was able to learn Vegimalese.

Does not care if you interrupt one of his infodumps. He will just keep talking.

Clumsiest and most absentminded of the crew

Do NOT watch any nautical themed cartoon with him (e.g. SpongeBob or Finding Nemo). He will just spend the entire time pointing out all the inaccuracies.

Absolutely! Here’s Mirabel headcanons:

Mirabel’s full name is Mirabel Teresa Rojas Madrigal

She is named after Saint Teresa of Ávila

Her birth was a disappointment as everyone had been expecting a boy

As a baby, Mirabel was very easy to please/soothe and didn’t enjoy being fussed over

Her first eleven words were all colours, starting with “purple” for Luisa

She had no interest in walking or crawling, until Agustín accidentally knocked a book off a shelf and she had to move to put it back. This started a long game of Agustín (and later Pepa) throwing books and Mirabel stopping what she was doing to walk over and put them back

Music in The Loyal Pin, episode 3

The more I hear of the music, the more I marvel at the genius behind it. My spreadsheet of themes and motives is over two pages long, and often there are several iterations of one melody, depending on the context of the scene. Just in case you’re wondering, this is what my professional spreadsheet looks like:

I am too lazy (and frankly, too sleep deprived) to record each motif, so I am writing down the numbers of the notes. 1 is do, 2 is re and so on. After that I note down the time measure. It’s not a perfect system, sometimes my inner ear can’t make sense of what I am seeing. But again: lazy and tired :D

So, last week I talked about a piece that I call “Pin’s heavy heart.” I also introduced the concepts of major chords (which tend to sound cheerful) and minor chords (which tend to sound wistful). “Pin’s heavy heart” features a lot of minor chords, which makes sense because we often hear it when Pin is sad. Not in this episode though. In this episode, the piece plays when Patt and Pin receive Anil’s invitation to Pine Palace.

The piece starts with its usual repetition of a minor third but then – oh, how I adore it – the whole phrase lands on a major chord and continues from there. The familiar melancholy of the piece is now streaked with little sunbeams from major chords. It’s almost as if Lady Pin had a reason to feel happy. We’re seven-and-a-half minutes into the episode and my little heart is already pleasantly warm.

The piece I want to talk about this week is one I have coined “Big emotions.” It sounds somewhat like this:

There are only five instances in the show so far where we could hear this piece (I think), but they are the reason for the name "Big emotions". In episode 1, Medium Anil attempts to suck the non-existent snake venom from Pin’s wound and Medium Pin learns for the first time that Anil is to go to the UK. In episode 2, Medium Anil realises that she won’t be seeing Pin during her travel preparations and Medium Pin cries in her bedroom while Prik eavesdrops. In episode 3, Anil asks if she could show Pin Pine Palace which the latter joyfully agrees to.

The piece experiences not one, but two variations in this episode. The first is played by a glockenspiel and can be heard when Pin learns that she is to massage Anil. The second is played by an accordion and sounds when Pin presses herb compresses to Anil’s back. Big emotions indeed.

Next week, I’m definitely going to have to talk about some pentatonic shenanigans that happen whenever Anil gets close to Pin, because that is the music the episode closes with: Anil’s face getting closer and closer to Pin’s cheek while pentatonic notes keep raining down. Also, I think there is a brandnew motif that is introduced at the same time as Anil’s cousin is. I suspect that we might hear it again in episode 4 ... But for this week, I am all music-ed out.

Fading transition to a shot of tomato sauce being stirred inside an open rice cooker with a baguette. The camera follows the baguette as a French-Italian man uses it to taste the sauce and smiles, satisfied.*

A YOUNG MAN'S NORMAL LIFE TAKES AN UNEXPECTED TURN

*A wall explodes in a deluge of debris and fog, the music turning into some trite Two Steps From Hell bullshit. The camera zooms in from a low angle as a buff Southern Asian man emerges and strikes that one pose Dwayne Johnson makes all the time, you know the one.*

THE TRUTH REVEALED, HE SHALL SUSPEND HIS DISBELIEF... OR DIE!

*Several phone screens are shown in rapid sequence, a finger flicking frantically through pictures of young anime women endowed with plentiful bosoms, all dressed in a variety of differently designed high school uniforms.*

"The data doesn't lie. The average Blue Archive girl's breast size is indirectly proportional to her age."

"What are you trying to tell me?"

"Don't you get it, Ryo? They're highschoolers. All of them."

"No way. Not Asuna. Come on."

*Sal meets Ryo's eyes. His gaze is mirthless, his voice grave, his pecs rock-hard.*

"Asuna. Karin. Hanako. All of them. All of them..."

DIVIDED BY FATE AND BLOOD.

*The camera pans around a skyscraper's windswept rooftop. A teary-eyed Ryo and an enraged Sal, bruised and battered, their clothes a torn mess, are respectively pointing a wooden spoon and a tablet pen at each other.*

"I refuse to see it!"

"You can't just pretend they're not kids, Ryo!"

"Can you pretend I'm not French, Sal!?"

*Sal gasps*

UNITED BY PURPOSE AND SWEAT.

*Slowmo montage of Ryo and Sal laughing as they toss flour at each other in a kitchen, jog at the beach, hit each other with joypads while playing Mario Party. Ryo is shown lifting a 5kg dumbbell with great effort. The camera immediately pans down to show he's sitting on the 80kg barbell Sal is lifting.*

I'm not sure how many I'm supposed to do, but here ya go. Mansion, I mean dorm room full of things you might want to take or leave, depending where you're going next....
