you know me, i'm incredibly klapollopilled, of course i'm drawing these two suckers for the wedding zine! <3 something about klapollo marriage makes me incredibly emo so i'm very glad for the opportunity to go all out so i can be EXTRA emo about it 😈

if i remember right, i think this idea came to be when i thought about the image of klavier bursting into tears as he lifts up apollo's veil and it all went from there LOL (also so psyched i get to draw him in a barong tagalog <333)

everything got so much more ambitious, though, from that initial idea! i drew like what (i am counting the number of characters in the spread right now as i type) 40-ISH CHARACTERS ALL IN ALL?! (WHAT THE FUCKDFGDHJ) and i even had to cut out some of the characters i originally had in the sketch 😭 (sorry gumshoe, kay, and seb/eustace ....)

i drew this like a year ago and i'm still so proud of this piece! i don't think i can achieve this level of rendering again, it's been so long i forgot how to do it LMAO

(also i can never reopen the file for this thing again bc it makes clip studio want to dieeeee DFSGHDJ so many layers ...)

another thing, i was working on this in tandem with my piece for the mea culpa zine; do you know how funny it is to draw apollo having such a happy moment and then draw him dying 😭 the contrast, the whiplash

This all started because I had this idea of Trucy asking Maya for some grand gift ideas for Phoenix, and Maya blabbed about that one time they made the choco Phoenix bust. Originally just a simple Wright - Edgeworth family piece, it escalated into being a ridiculous mess that took me something like 3 weeks to finish. ...I think? I lost track of time at some point in the madness. I suppose you can have fun counting all characters. Because I'm definitely not going to. I have even hidden some mons, so if you like spot-the-mon (?) games, you're welcome. Print version will come sometime in the future <3 (edit: now available!) Process pics under the cut.

As you might be able to discern I added further ridiculousness as I went. I don't think I've ever painted something quite so detailed ever. Definitely never so many characters at once. I even repainted Phoenix completely at some point. Honestly I probably will nitpick until the end of time, so I'll let it sit for a while before uploading the print on the print shop because I need fresh eyes to discern whether I need to make any adjustments and I definitely don't have eyes at all anymore now.

As a cult survivor I have a lot of thoughts about Nahyuta.

Disclaimer: The cult I was in was not that bad in the grand scheme of things. I’m not fully through Spirit of Justice, but there will be some spoilers.

People say Nahyuta is boring but as someone who’s been in a cult I have to say that’s the furthest from the truth if you just take a moment and look at who he is and how he acts.

Khurainism is a religion. The Ga’ran regime is a cult.

Nahyuta used to be part of the Defiant Dragons. He used to be passionately fighting against the oppressive regime in Khura’in, but then something changed.

He was basically brainwashed by this cult into believing that everyone else is a lowly half-wit or the like that’s destined to rot in hell for eternity when they die, even his own family. Something cults do sometimes is try to turn you against the world, make you not trust it and see every opposition as further proof you are in the right. In this instance, it’s even gotten so far as to say that any insult against Nahyuta, the Ga’ran regime, the justice system, or anything like that is heresy against Khurainism. He’s been isolated from everyone, including his family. He refuses to acknowledge his relation to Apollo. He turned against his own father despite previously also being a rebel. He’s an absolute cunt to everyone and everything that opposes him. But it’s not his fault he’s like this, he was conditioned to be this way by a religious cult that wants total control over everything.

I want to talk to him. I want to tell him that there’s more out there than what’s in his little bubble. I want to help him realize he can ask for help. I want him to think about his relationship with the Holy Mother, and if his current way of doing things is truly what she would have wanted. I want him to know that his religion is being used against him to make him be someone other than who he really is. I want him to know that when he decides to leave, that there are people out there who love him and will accept him with open arms. I want him to figure out who he is outside of the cult of Ga’ran. I want to give him a hug.

Nahyuta isn’t boring. He’s just being brainwashed by a cult.
