I'm rewatching severance for the 3rd time to prep for season 2 so here are some things I'm Thinking about from the first few episodes:

the implications of mark's offhand remark to helly in the first episode where he recalls his fear and confusion on his first day when the disembodied voice asked him what his name was 18 TIMES.... mark has always been an obstinate little shit at heart

dylan's theory on what they're actually doing at lumon is so ridiculous but also so heartbreaking?? it's the way he rationalizes his outie's decision to sever by assuming that the world must be apocalyptic but still tries to find some hope for the future that things can get better (they just have to kill enough eels). which just makes it all the more devastating when milchick accidentally reveals his son to him and he realizes that he has a life right now that's being denied to him!!

both outie and innie mark respond to unexpected loss (gemma and petey, respectively) by becoming both fixated and avoidant. Outie mark disassociates his way through work and devotes his waking moments to nursing his grief. Innie mark hides the company photographs in the closet so that he doesn't have to confront petey's absence, yet he can't seem to stop himself from bringing it up to milchick and cobel even though he knows he'll be effectively punished for doing so.

I NEED to know more about mark's 'freshman fluke' because I can't stop theorizing about it. My current hypothesis is that outie mark's emotional volatility and despair primed his innie to quickly locate the numbers in the allentown file because they corresponded with woe and not malice (assuming the sorting aligns with kier's 4 temperaments)

do you think they noticed a change, the first few loops. i think they did. because how could they not, cheng xiaoshi and qiao ling, the two closest friends lu guang has, seeing him walk out of the room through a camera shutter and re-enter changed. diminished, faded, sad, the worn and cracking face of an old photograph. more and more tired each time he dives, further and further back with each attempt. every time a failure. and even as he lets the tides of time weather him more - render him a ghost, it feels like sometimes - even as lu guang changes more and more from the person he used to be, so too does that moment of disconnect in his friends’ eyes shorten and fade. because they don’t know him anymore. the golden stretch of time he spends by their sides before it all goes wrong is sliced thinner and thinner with every photo he uses, his touch blurring the memory with blood. each time he fails they know him less - the first him, the one unburdened by the terrible knowledge he now holds and the weight of too many failures.

soon they will never have known him at all.

Because you would notice if your best friend time travelled from a horrible future, but not if he travelled back so far he erased the person he once was (the person you knew) (the person you loved, first. before you loved this newer-older transparent version, never knowing a difference.)
