I feel because of Jinx and Viktor’s popularity in fandom (having some of the most annoying fans in Arcane fandom) and the attention they receive in the show itself, people forget/don’t realise how bad they were done by the writers in s2

#saying this as someone who had thought jayce was reasonable for killing viktor in s2 #the way they stripped all nuance from viktor’s actions and made jayce 100% right and the arcane/glorious evolution instead of highly flawed #and morally dubious/neutral #into just bad and wrong(tm)#was weird. it was weird.#i don’t want to compare to league because i do think adaptations should be judged on themselves for the most part #and i’m not too familiar.#but i think the ending should have been left open. like let piltover and zaun still be at war and the characters finding their place in that #also escalation from misguidedly transforming unwitting but willing people to viktor just deciding to turn everyone into an emotionless robo #was weird too #someone smarter than me do a deep dive idek #everyone became a centrist when faced with the true enemy; extremist zaunite (but like not even for zaun)#its not that i wanted viktor to be innocent. his actions in act 2 were morally dubious and he was destined to become darker and more extreme #but the way they did it was weird #and the way they resolved his character. it just feel so half-assed if you look past how emotionally charged and beautiful it was #do not even get me started on jinx… the ‘jinx is alive’ theory better be real because that’s the only way to salvage her character #but like i think they handled her character terribly for all of act 3 #i think ekko and mel were done dirty in the way characters like lucas in st were. but i won’t get into that rn #jayce and vi also kinda felt reduced to their relationships…#arcane s2 act 3 #arcane critical #arcane criticism #arcane #arcane season 2 #arcane s2 #viktor arcane #viktor #jinx arcane #jinx

i don’t know if i’m ever gonna write the fic but i’ve been thinking abt like. the eternal stockade. the implications. lup, a lich who was trapped in a dark featureless cell for a decade completely isolated with nothing to keep her sanity but her own mind. she has to put people in the eternal stockade. how many liches does she see herself in. how many liches started out just like her. how many liches are truly too far gone. and the only liches we ever see other than her and barry are edward and lydia. they’re certainly evil, but mad? they seem pretty sane. they’re not, like, tattered echoes of souls, they’re definitely still people. even as much of a grudge as lup surely has against them, wouldn’t they remind her incredibly strongly of herself? do they deserve to be trapped just like she was? for eternity? isn’t eternity what turned john to existential despair in the first place?

Who had to take care of him, the lamb? What’s been the downstream effects? Basically, how is this cat still messed up lol.

Lambert, mainly, took care of him! They made sure that every comfort he needed was provided and were worried out of their mind the entire time. Their disciples helped watch over Narinder when he was unconscious, just so he wouldn't bolt the moment he awoke, and Witness Allocer stitched some of his wound and prepared a special painkiller blend for him. (in my au the high priests, aka the mini bosses, and the witnesses were very close to the bishops! Allocer made the same painkillers for Shamura as well.)

Okay so obviously his wrists and ankles were pretty fucked up from being chained for a thousand years and he's got a lot of internal damage as well bc some of the chains went through him (og Stychu hc that I adopted bc it's so good). Also just general wounds from the final fight and the unfathomable pain of shrinking down from his godly form.

Upon being spared, he did attack them in a post battle adrenaline and hate fueled delirium, right on the indoctrination stone and not only broke his arm (bc he put too much weight on it), but probably gave himself a heavy concussions by slamming his head on said stone seconds after the break happened lmao. After waking up in,,, just a Haze of agony he tried to get up and run away bc he was scared that the lamb would just keep him existing in this special Purgatory and shattered his opposite calf so there's that as well. Unlucky tbh

He bleeds like,,, constantly. All of the time, for literal years on end. From his eyes mostly, but also nose and ears and he throws up ichor a lot in the beginning as well bc his body is adjusting rapidly to being smaller and there's just No Space for the ichor to go, other than out. He’s constantly exhausted and spends a lot of time sleeping, and is very frail physically, if snapping two bones by simply putting weight on them didn't make it obvious enough lol

All and all not a great shape to be in, but! His wounds aren't actually what caused him to be bedridden for so long. It was the fact that he no longer saw himself as a god while still being one and suffering injuries befitting of one!

His body/the Red Crown isn't healing him as much as it’s literally regenerating parts of itself while he suffers everything that comes with that, alongside being out of the Veil/Gateway for the first time in forever and emotionally dealing with the deaths of his acolytes and the supposed betrayal of the one he allowed himself to trust after his family. In fact, Narinder barely heals at all for a while bc he was just mentally stopping the process. And also unconscious for a lot of it.

The other big reason is that god hearts are a great power source, but his heart has been in Lambert's chest since Silk Cradle. So he is Struggling ™ but he’d actually rather die than take his heart back he’s a simp like that smh

After he inevitably breaks and he and Lambert finally talk, he gradually starts seeing himself as a person again and his healing process gets easier. He still has chronic pain for his joints but eventually everything else heals alright :3

On a side note, his siblings bleed excessively and are disoriented for the first couple of days but are ultimately fine within the week. They are kind of horrified to learn that their brother is STILL struggling with the side effects of his imprisonment

#god this was a lot of words #i love yapping 😔#i think even if he won he would've been fucked up from the chains at least #but with the true extent of his godhood it would've taken him maybe a day to get everything in order #honestly i think he suffers most mentally bc nari Knows and Accepts pain but it needs to have a vissible end to it yk #like getting absolutelly wrecked in a fight. but knowing that once its over u can rest #but bc hes genuenly out of his mind from pain/medication he doesnt see that end and it makes him absolutely hopeless for a while #doesnt help that lamb stays w him only when hes out and the resulting loneliness is. The thing that kills me about the Star Wars prequel trilogy and why I will die on my hill that my problem is not that Star Wars is a tragedy, its that its a badly written tragedy, is that Anakin Skywalker was at his closest to being a good Jedi when he was ten years old.

#im not an anakin apologist by any means because I get the point of his character and Im not pro or anti jedi #my only real opinion on all of it is similar to what I was saying about Peter and Tony and the MCU yesterday #its badly written. its EVERYONE being contorted into shapes that dont make a ton of sense in service to #getting characters to where they need to end up for certain things to occur #my opinion is not that Anakin is inherently bad or good or that the Jedi are inherently bad or good #its that their entire conflict was set in motion by forcing the Jedi to act in ways that felt massively OOC when they were #first interviewing him as a kid and like.....I ACCEPT that the Jedi are supposed to be for the most part kindhearted and empathetic and all #of that which is why its so noteworthy in my opinion that this does not match with how they were FORCIBLY portrayed in those early movies #in order to ENGINEER the idea that this kid in desperate need of support but already with a lot of good instincts and positive traits #came to the order of kindly supportive literal empaths and everything went downhill from there #like kindly supportive literal empaths would not in my opinion look at a kid trying his best to be brave & stoic in completely intimidating #circumstances and surroundings and be judgmental and fairly dismissive about it as though theyve never met a kid before let alone a #traumatized one and the fact that thats kinda what happened is in contrast to how a lot of pro anakin people frame that NOT proof #that the Jedi order are inherently bad its that in that key scene and multiple others #the Jedi order were BADLY WRITTEN in pursuit of one pre-determined outcome that mattered more to the script/Lucas than #being true to their core conceit and characterizations. and thats just one example out of dozens I could list and the same holds true for #anakin's side of things so thats why I always steer far away from SW discourse #because Im like the problem with the characters in terms of the most iconic arc is not really any of the characters so much #as the plots refusal to let them actually consistently BE characters rather than just fixed and contrived stepping stones on the way to #the desired endpoint

Trying to remember where I first encountered humanity as a horror to see if this has a root the same way you can trace literally all of my thirst for fictional characters back to WITCH, but ngl I genuinely cannot remember anything like that.

#like you know. usually if something becomes human the narrative depicts it positively #like this is a good thing this is teh goal yay yippee #and that's great of course #love that #but everybody knows that i keep a collection of characters whose main conflict is humanity (horror) vs their nature #the example everyone likely knows is The Last Unicorn. and I saw the film adaptation when i was like 5 so maybe that's the root #but the thing is i... didn't realise the true horror of it until i read the book #so that shouldn't be it. but yes TLU is a classic example of humanity being the body horror AND the psychological horror #the unicorn was not meant to be a human. its nature isn't to be a human. it doesn't know human emotions. but it does now.#fully against its will and against the laws of nature it was changed into a she and now she is just like us and every day she looks #at her hands with horror and the hideous caricature in the mirror does not become less nausea inducing no matter how much #time passes. the repulsion gives only when the mind does. who are you really? what are you really?#and then she turns back but it ahs changed her. she will live knowing love and empathy and the fear of death.#she'll never belong anywhere and she'll have no kin. she's no longer human and no longer a unicorn.#sorry that got long because it's fucked up and depressing. but yeah that's like the prototype. the other wonderful classic #has got to be Viser I in Ani//morphs but honestly all Ye//erks are inherently this trope?#but a bit differently because they actually AREN'T that different from humans but their society shaped them into being #very different and the real horror is in realising that you have been very human all along. against your will.#the horror is just the same as if someone forced you to become a human because; well; what is the difference really?#perhaps it's even worse. i mean; the knowledge that you have always been like this; that has to be horrible; right?#and the other members of this beautiful collection aren't exactly classics but I love collecting them anyway. favourite niche fucked up #thing for real. for the uninitiated currently the other ones are Var//ney from Castle//vania (a mix of both of the above technically.#since he's something that is fully separate from humans YET his nature is actually human to the point that a character comments #on it and the kicker is he's fucking right! he's more human than many a vampire used to be. the humanity is inherent but he's very human #against his will and he'd deny being like humans at all. separating himself from humanity but hey! someone forgot that mirrors #are a thing! and they might not reflect vampires but they reflect what's within and boy your words are bullets shot in the dark corridors #of a funhouse and when they hit those funky panes of glass the one bleeding is you. you better check your mouth is dry #before you open it with a grin and stare in shock as blood pours out next time #another example is Gray from Dreamcatcher. yes i continue to ignore those few sentences at the end that completely ruin all the themes #and the last example is The Wi//nged Li//on. for obvious reasons. I'd say that's a mix of Gray and TLU

Coda and Ichor! (Catacombtale Style!)

These two don't have a *ton* of interaction in the Main story, but since Ichor and Balance are the only two characters I've fully designed, Coda gets stuck next to him, haha!

BONUS art jumpscare:

These two actually exist in another project I'm working on too called Codex, which is basically just removing the UT aspects of Catacombtale and doing a lot more worldbuilding and character design!

Coda is older in Codex and is marked by an old God (which should get him jailed or killed, as it means for everyone else) but he hides it for years and years before he finally flees the complex he's living in to go confront the gods and stop their destructive path. Meanwhile Ichor is much the same, only he's much more ready and willing to help Coda without much prompting. Here he's also sort of a Koi Fish! (His brother is a Betta Fish)

He is the God of Puns after all!#(I think he hides his true nature as God of Punishment from the player as long as possible. saying his bro is so cool for being a major god)#Coda is a human with a lot of integrity and stubborn morals. even Determination can't escape the Gods wrath. but integrity?#Gods have a code to respect a soul who follows their own nature and still co-exists despite it just like themselves #so Coda is primed to help out.#his sister is about 7 abd she's a soul of Bravery #which means Hearth (who watches over her as a safe-space from the eyes of the other gods) has his hands full #trying to keep her from charging after Coda #Coda is so funny because he'll just walk in sonewhere and start a “Nuh-uh” contest with any given god and like... usually ends up winning???#and usually the Challenges are more gentle because he's still a young mortal. hardly a Hero. certainly not the one of prophecy #everyone figures Asgore or Undyne will kill them but uhhh. yeah. no that doesn't happen.#There's a lot of Lore here but like...#one additional thing is that in the story Coda manages to spend enough time with Ichor to obtain an item #“Sans' Protection Charm.” /Ichor gave it to you. Says to keep hold of it when facing danger. Arc goes into his territory and Skystar RIPS! THAT! BOY! UP!!!

And then later Skystar uses the will of StarClan to justify his invasion of RiverClan, which BTW is 10000% consistent with A Forest Divided (a post redemption arc book) where he completely misinterprets Fluttering Bird in a way that would get him more power.

So if you just ignore the fact they tried to write him as being so scared :( he doesn't know what he's doing :( for the 400th time, it totally tracks. That's Skystar. That's who he is.

It's tempered by the deep knowledge that it was always meant to end this way #A tragedy in real life.
