Oh I'm glad you did! The episodes of last two weeks were so fun! Before that, I was casually watching it and the cringe parts were putting me off. Right now, those factors are gone. And I'm enjoying the comedic parts, especially overly dramatic ones a.k.a. imagined scenarios. Although it's not the finest time travel drama out there, it's now enjoyable for me.

Anything special from your watch? How is it going for you?

the imagined scenarios!!!! always gets me cracking up. it's my boost for the start of the week and i am leisurely enjoying it!

i'm now a bit obsessed with the atypical family after watching the latest ep last night that ending was ??!!!!. i'm very intrigued and it's only 12 eps so i really hope the revelation and healing comes throughout nicely. i love the FL and ML, the whole cast actually so reallly hope it stays that way.

Other shows im watching is frankly speaking, it's funny and crack but the latest ep 4 was a bit farfetch lol so...im putting my hopes low. I'm also watching chief detective 1958, it started with daily cases but now i think it's moving towards more linked crime. A good watch.

I also started midnight romance in hagwon!! too early to judge, the first ep was a bit draggy and a lot of dialoguesss, but im seated for the upcoming romance so we'll see!!!

"why should I get invested in shows if they'll just get canceled" I was deeply invested in Heroes (2006) and it was not canceled, it just got really terrible. I also got really invested in the sandwich I had a few weeks ago despite it only lasting like 15 minutes. You must embrace the ephemeral. One thing about ATLA I really do appreciate compared to other, more recent cartoons that try to tackle the concept of genocide and war is that the show spends a lot of time focusing on the communities that are the most victimized by it. The war is never a backdrop for these characters or played off as a joke, its a constant presence.

I remember my biggest frustration when watching SPOP was Adora very rarely actually engages with the people she's supposed to protect. at times the war feels more like an inconvenience to her than a genuine threat, because the victims of war are never given focus, just the soldiers and the royals.

it doesnt really surprise me that a lot of ATLA fans have a hard time grasping discussions around characters like iroh, zuko and azula because the show goes out of its way to show the impact of their actions. I've criticized azula fans for refusing to understand why she never got a redemption, but i notice a lot of zuko fans act like he was only doing terrible things to appease his father and not also because he genuinely believed the fire nation were in the right and has literally burned villages (hell zuko says it OUTRIGHT and fans still blame everything he does on his dad).

I don't know. its interesting. its like people really arent well equipped to handle the topic of war when it isnt used as a metaphor for child trauma and mental illness.

Seeing people say that we never see the Doctor and Ruby talking for more than 30 seconds makes me think 73 Yards and Dot and Bubble has just clouded their memories because the first four episodes of this era are almost nothing but the Doctor and Ruby talking and bonding.

Yeah, the Doctor-lite episodes meant we haven't had as much lately, but so many are going on as there's been none at all, as if every episode before 73 Yards was like Rogue where they were mostly separated in their own plotlines.

It's not that I don't like Edwin and the Cat King, I think the Cat King has potential, but my brain is more wired to see storytelling as a craft (which isn't me saying different ways of experiencing a character or story is less than, please know that). So I see the Cat King and know exactly what his purpose is within the story and he hardly breaks out of that purpose when he's in a scene with Edwin. He's not standing on his own yet, essentially. That's also why I loved his scenes with Edwin in the forest— they're pissed off at each other, sure, but it feels like genuine moments between two individuals. Not a moment between a main character and a literary device. Does that make sense?

Which also leads me to say that this explains why Edwin and Charles have such a strong hold over me. Their love is the beating heart (heh) of the story.

spontaneous headcanon time: Dark Sun runs hot. Like really hot

Because the thing is like, he should be unsettling to other animatronics, right? Uncomfortable to be around, uncomfortable to have him touching you. You want him to let go as soon as possible.

And okay you'd think that means 'cold', cold personality cold hands etc BUT. That's a mammal's perspective. Cold is considered unpleasant cos we're always working to maintain homeostasis, so we have an aversion to temperatures that cause us to burn more energy.

Computers, though, like the cold. Put a laptop in a freezer and except for the humidity, they'll be just fine! Apparently it's when you get to temperatures like in the actual vacuum of space that you need to think about a heater.

So to be unpleasant to other animatronics, Dark Sun would be running really hot. Maybe it's a result of modifications he's done to himself over time, or overclocking his CPU, or whatever. It doesn't bother him any, and in fact it gives him one more way to manipulate others.
