This 4th of July I’m stealing the patriotism euphoria that’s usually associated with assholes idolizing the worst attributes of this country because fuck ‘em I live here too and remembering the things this country actually got Right is an important exercise when trying to rally anyone to want to defend it in November SO putting my money where my mouth is I’ll start easy and say I really like National Parks!! It’s rad how many of them there are and how they’re actual set up to preserve some of the most beautiful wild areas in our country while still letting people visit to enjoy and experience nature!! (Less important but I love how they put national parks on the quarters I think that’s real fun)

#The hypothesis I’m testing here is that remembering there are good things now and then can combat apathy a little bit#and this is the one day of the year where everyone has a free pass to say nice things about the US so!#some other fun freebies:#public libraries are really cool!! Love visiting them and I should do that way more#bit of a funnier one but I think our interstate highways are really nice#like I’d love trains too but it’s really cool how you can travel the whole country relatively easily like it’s all pretty connected#I love how women have equal rights! We’re backsliding a little right now which is why it’s so important to latch onto this now!#I love how we don’t have a draft- this one might point to some other issues in the country#but at least from a surface level it’s great that military service isn’t mandatory#If you aren’t in the US and still want to play go for it!#today I’m encouraging everyone to pick at least one little positive thing they like#and then down the line if you’re wondering why voting matters at all#maybe remember that little thing y’know#Do it for the national parks and the libraries and gay marriage and stuff#humming-rambles#anyways that’s my social experiment for the day hope y’all get to see some fun fireworks later!

I'm beginning to realise that a major reason why I woke up in the middle of August and was like "I REALLY DESPERATELY URGENTLY FINALLY NEED TO DRIVE AROUND ICELAND FOR TWO WEEKS ON MY OWN" (apart from, you know, seeing Iceland) is that this will be the first time since Ireland that I will completely on my own schedule and on my own and off to clock and not available and it's really interesting that the people in my life who are the most like 'why would you want to go to Iceland on your own, there's nothing there, that sounds boring, it's empty and cold' are the ones I most need a break from. It's you, the stressor is you.

#not like...living together living together they've just had to share a treehouse and thus seen each other for approximately 200 days#yasmina fadoula#brooklynn#jurassic world: camp cretaceous#jwcc#on the one hand this definitely feels like it shoulda-coulda been an earlier episode#on the other hand the further back you push this combo the funnier and funnier all their prior adventures get#this was their FIRST SOLO ADVENTURE#these two have NEVER HAD A PROPER CONVERSATION#IN SIX MONTHS#which is actually quite believable#but also#they never fell in a hole together#or had the group get so fed up that they shoved them into a room#it's also funny because Yaz's goth side doesn't really come out a lot#but it's really obvious when you see them here#especially with Yaz framed against the shadow of the mountain#while Brooklynn's got the sunny sky and bright umbrellas#which are somehow still there after six months of island storms#the chairs are upright too#...actually those might all have been locked in place if this wasn't in use the day the park closed#not important

#okay random story time i don't know why im narrating this or how i even stumbled upon this memory rn#but i generally do sad vents in the tags and for a change this is a funny one#so back in highschool (i say highschool but i mean junior college) i used to visit this park near my house a lot#i was an sg kid back then and the thing about parks there is that they're kinda beach-parks and they have the best cycling/running tracks#they're also really massive parks so i used to go often. sometimes bicycling. other times walking. yeah. the park was like my sanctuary#anyway. there are quite a few bike rental areas in the park and there was a cute lil shop next to this one particular rental place#and they sold like biscuits and water and icecreams and stuff and i went there a lot#and on one particular day i went there and there was this guy around my age part timing at that shop#now again this might be culture specific bc i dont see it in india but part timing in uni/pre-uni is pretty common is sg#a lot of shops and restaurants employ teenagers to twenty something ppl for part time jobs... anyway im just adding context#point is that i had walked to the park with my mum that day and she told me to go buy a couple icecreams so i went to the shop#and i saw this guy around my age and like. not to be a simp but this dude was so pretty?#like he saw someone had come to the counter so he looked up and shot a smile and i thought i got slapped by sunlight#i could spend the next several lines going on about his pretty tan skin and his glowing raven eyes but this is pathetic enough so ill stop#anyway he saw me and smiled really wide (customer service smile- i thought to myself) and i smiled back and asked for icecreams or whatever#and then this guy started getting chatty right. so he was all 'you come here (to the park) often right? ive seen you with your bike a lot'#see now. the problem with me is that i always think im bothering people. this poor dude was attempting to make conversation#and i was replying with one word answers#and i wasn't even realizing that he didnt want that. bc he kept asking more questions and i. kept. shutting them down.#then when he gave me the icecream he was all 'are you here alone? icecream alone is no fun... i could keep you company if you want..?'#which. he was being really cute about right. but because im so fucking dense i was all 'oh no i came with my mom actually'#and he went 'aw man' in this really cute but faux sad way which i didnt understand at the time and i left and then#after three full fucking days. i realized this man was tryna hit on me?#and then i went to the park like a week later and he was gone. poof. i even thought of asking the uncle in charge of that place#then i got too embarrassed and chickened out#yeah so turns out my neurodivergence neutralizes any sort of rizz that comes my way#i could've been chilling with a cute boyf rn but no😩 this is my destiny#megumi in the tags

i guess im not too involved in the zelda fandom cause seeing a post about rabid totk defenders is wild to me. from my perspective people were singing that game's praises for 2 months total before it fell to the "popular game bad actually" criticism wave and i don't think i've seen anyone say positive things about totk since then lmfao
#maybe it's just twitter's algorithm showing me discourse and criticism to try and spark engagement or whatever#ive experienced the same thing with mario odyssey which sucks cause i DID get into that game well after release but whatever#i think the game has plenty of flaws but is still like. one of the best games on the switch and that's not an insult to the switch#and most of my writing issues are 'well this sucks but also makes reasonable sense within the constraints of the game design'#like the lack of sheikah tech or the repetition with the backstory cutscenes with the sages#ive also never been super interested in trying to piece together the timeline or linked universe fan stuff but that might just be me#i feel like botw/totk is way better when you view it as a retelling of the zelda universe and give up on trying to reason with the timeline#for making a direct botw sequel on the same map w the same formula and still trying to make it fresh they knocked it out of the park imo#at least in regards to gameplay?#i acknowledge that there is a MASSIVE flaw in the non linear gameplay clashing w the linear story cutscenes this time#(... but that one didn't personally affect me since i saw the memories in mostly the right order and the story hit me weirdly hard)#but anyways yeah where are all the mean totk defenders i keep hearing about i thought that game fell out of the public consciousness#all i still see about it is NintendoMarioJimmy47536 on twitter calling it 'mid af' or whatever#and occasional gorgeous paintings of the light dragon on my dash

Also, and in complete fairness I haven’t seen this said yet, but if anyone does think it’s OOC for Kyle and Tolkien in this episode (as I do see on a surface level an argument for it being so since both of them are not particularly known for indulging in kinda “silly” stuff) I think, idk. Consider reevaluating the characters a bit. Assume you’re wrong in your interpretation of them before assuming it’s the creator’s who don’t know what they’re doing! I’m not saying Matt and Trey are flawless about character consistency by any means, but I do think they’d be proven to put a lot of care and effort into characterization especially recently and especially with the kids. There’s a number of reasons this makes sense for both Kyle and Tolkien and may not seem obvious at first, not to mention they are still just cringey kids above being the serious “mature” ones in their groups and it makes sense they’d be silly sometimes or indulge in fun things like TikTok, cringey or not. It’s honestly really nice to see them do so, especially with their personalities not changing otherwise, because it creates so much more of a well grounded basis for them as characters. Real people are never the serious ones all of the time, and honestly that’s never even exactly what Tolkien and Kyle were written to be!
They’ve always had less serious sides, had moments where they placed the less elegant and mature part for fun, and we see that here in such a real way. We see them goofing off and making fun stupid videos and enjoying the attention and making of them, and taking it seriously and Whatnot- But we also still see them being themselves in the same vein outside of when they’re making their videos which is natural and really nice! Nothing has changed ultimately! It’s just a new side to them both and I love seeing them just be… Happy! Relaxed! Chill! And indulging in an interest they found they shared and loving each other’s company. It’s really sweet!

#i'm so excited !!#and also nervous bc we haven't hung out in forever 🥹#which means yay lots to catch up on & that's always fun#but also means they might bring up -certain- things that 😭 i do not wanna talk about ever again lol#that's the problem with not seeing each other as often is having to discuss things that happened months ago..#but what are ya gonna do 🤷♀️ it's hard to hang out regularly since we all got full time jobs#+ we live and work far away from each other & the weather always sucks & eating out gets expensive 😫#our vacations are on different times too#and now it's getting darker earlier so... yeah#it's getting less and less safe to hang out at night here and even in broad daylight too man 🙃#we gotta find more activities to do lol but usually i'll see one of them for coffee and walks & those are my fav#man i just wish i lived closer to my friends it sucks#cause even if it's easier now than it was years ago bc i can drive to them#there's alwayssssss construction and traffic the city is horrible#like we mostly just hang out in the suburbs now bc of that. sure there's less options here but at least we can drive peacefully and PARK#that's also another major issue in the city ugh#and it's not even like public transit is a solid option there's always problems there too 🙃#get ur shit together montreal !!!! i wanna love you but you're so hard to love sometimes !!!!!!!!#anyway. i do miss the city i can't even lie. i never go downtown anymore 😢#and i miss my friends !!!!!!!! 😭😭#i'm so excited we're hanging out i hope we can do it more and more often#**#update: ok they didn’t ask about any of the things i was worried about so we good 😇
