I know the decision to have Julian's parents have him augmented was made on the fly but imo its pretty obvious from early on that Julian has Family Issues because he avoids talking about his family like the plague and I think they should've incorporated this into the Julian and Sisko dynamic right from early on because I think it would've made for some really compelling stories and moments and could've set up a REALLY interesting Julian and Jake dynamic which they kinda started to do but never fully went for

And another thing about Tommy calling him Evan

Because it's not just about the shortcut to intimacy. It's also a shortcut to a younger Buck.

Buck doesn't care about age gaps in relationships. We've known this since season 1. He's got a big heart and big dreamy ideas, and he'll follow his romantic inclinations with a big push, regardless of surface details. He puts himself towards building love with a whole person, and he respects that enough to not ruminate on the things that make them different.

But that doesn't mean he'll receive that respect in return.

By calling him Evan, we're receiving a clue about how Tommy is the one seeing and creating distance with the age gap. Tommy is calling him the name that he only uses with his parents and his sister (his other de facto parent). It's a clue that clicks into place when we see the breakup, the "I'm your first, not your last."

Tommy is seeing a younger version of his own experiences in Buck. He's seeing that he himself wasn't ready to commit in his first gay relationship, because it was his first real relationship. He's seeing Buck and Eddie's friendship as something Buck's not yet acknowledging as affecting him.

And so, he's internally put himself into a gay mentor role.

If he wanted them to last, he should have met Buck where he's actually at.

He should have called him by the name he chooses to use, instead of the one that seems mature but is tied to Buck's life before he came into himself.

He should have talked to Buck about Eddie like a real adult, not let that subtext fester under their relationship.

He should have built up the man he met, rather than dig himself into the younger bits.

By calling him Evan, all he did was create this dynamic Buck didn't ask for and didn't want. Buck wanted a little patience with coming out, and Tommy decided patience was his role for their relationship.

I have a couple of my usual little minor nitpicks (as I am want to have), but I don’t even want to get into them because there were so few and they didn’t impact my enjoyment of the comic all that much. I thought it was super cute!

I won’t spoil anything in case anyone’s interested in buying it for themselves (which, I would say… yeah, buy it, totally!), but what I appreciated the most– especially since this is the first issue and it’s establishing who the girls are for anyone not super familiar with them– is that the girls end up saving the day together. It shows the importance of them not just being heroes, but also being a team (and also being supportive sisters, which… 🥹🫶) and that makes me feel like, even on a basic level, they get the characters. And that’s reassuring! Yay!

I never liked Melanie as a person but was very intrigued by her as a character, since she's as deep and well written as any other on the show, (until fandom made me hate her). I'd forgotten though that the dislike was immediate + from her first appearance we get to know one of her most fundamental (and insufferable) traits, that is that she does exactly what Jon does, worse-ish* even, but she thinks she's better than him because, well, because it's her and she just is. Which will come back full force later on to such wonderful effects

i love madoka magica however i dont think we as a fandom talk enough about how tragic madoka herself is. probably because the narrative itself steers you away from thinking about her personally. shes not a character shes a desire that homura has, shes a force of good, shes homura's foil. but those are all madoka's narrative roles but madoka herself as a person is not really looked at because we are viewing this world from an unreliable narrator(homura) who only sees madoka as those things. The best thing homura could have done for madoka was give up on her, to let her go. because every time we go back in time the image of madoka is distorted, she loses more of herself every regression of homura's as she tries harder and harder to save her. We don't even know what madoka originally wished for to become a magical girl in the original timeline. and she actually acts quite differently than the madoka we meet. shes a lot more honest and caring and bold. by the time homura's has reached the actual anime madoka has been reduced by the sands of time to a figment of herself. she has no wants or desires of her own beyond wanting to do good and help her friends and when all her humanity is stripped away is when she finally acends to godhood because thats all thats left of her. an ideal and a faith in her. madoka kaname died a long time ago and all that is left is her ghost.

Thinking of writing a mlc liansanjiao modern au where di feisheng and fang duobing are like, in a pool (if they're at dfs', because he's a super rich CEO, but if they're at li lianhua's they're in a fucking lake because lotus tower) and dfs is like oh he's doing that cheeky little sarcastic grin at me (you know the one). How is he so small how is his waist so thin how are his shoulders that broad I can see the water rolling down his chest. He's having an entire gay little panic for the nth time.

This is where it gets revealed that dfs, however, thinks that llh and fdb are in a sugar daddy/sugar baby relationship. Except without the money? Because he sees this attractive sticky little puppy that li lianhua calls xiaobao and comes to that, quote, "very obvious conclusion." So he's all sad about fdb already being "taken." However this is the moment llh walks about and sees them in the water together.

HE thinks dfs and fdb are kinda-sorta hatefucking but they're actually figuring out they like each other. His "irrefutable" evidence to back this up is that he's seen them fighting (physically, 99% of the time) every time they're together and honestly it's all a little bit homoerotic. He cannot be dissuaded from this.

Meanwhile fdb sees llh come out and offer dfs a bottle of water (he has one for him too, but baby boy has tunnel vision) and is like. Ahhhh llh is back. Dfs' boyfriend. HE thinks this because he knows they have history together (aka they were infamous in certain circles for having the HOTTEST beef) and once he saw them sparring except it turned into wrestling on the ground and THAT turned into making out. It was essentially fdb's gay awakening except he already knew he liked boys. It was more like his gay awakening for "men who could definitely pin me down and throw me around and oh my god do I like that???"

They're all moronsexual and don't realise they all like each other lmao (I only focused on these lenses but they do all like each other. Dfs has liked llh since their rivalry days. Fdb attaches himself to llh because even though his cooking is atrocious and he likes playing around with him aka little white lies he has the most beautiful smile fdb has ever seen in his life and he's nice to huli jing. Llh is deep in self-denial because he's doesn't think he deserves them they're happier without him etcetera.)

to be totally upfront with you, when it comes to op i am like... 90% just here for the women. like, don't get me wrong, the male characters are fun & i enjoy them! i'm having a blast, even! there are a few upcoming arcs that i'm vaguely aware of which i'm sure will allow some of the men to garner more of my favour!

but also, like... the women are the characters that make me feel like screaming & crying & slowly peeling off my skin layer by layer. they are the characters who haunt me, who harrow me, who's suffering i feel in my very bones. they are the characters who have intellects which fill me with awe, resilience that guts me organ by organ, the characters who are flawed in a manner which ground me & heartens me in equal measure, the characters given a sort of atypical strength which fascinates me, their sense of chaotic whimsy what brings a lightness to my heart. the women are the people carrying the story for me. it wouldn't be anything close to worthwhile without them.
