Reasons Taipei 101 is the coolest building in the world
Yeah, locals say it's a tourist trap but I will go to my grave defending it. It was the VERY first thing I did when I first came to Taiwan. I've been to the top four times and it's not nearly enough
1. Just LOOK at it! So beautiful!!!
The entire design of the building is chock full of symbolism, but that would honestly take a whole other post.
2. It's really tall!!!
More than half a kilometer tall! It was the tallest building in the world from its completion in 2004 until the Burj Khalifa was finished. The only building outside of Asia that is taller than Taipei 101 is the One World Trade Center in NYC. It is STILL the tallest LEED-certified building in the world.
3. It also used to have the fastest elevators in the world!
You can get up to the observation deck in 37 seconds!
4. It's really tall AND was built in a VERY Earthquake-prone area, which is just badass
It was built only 200 meters away from a major fault line. It was built with a TON of innovations to withstand earthquakes up to a 9 on the Richter Scale. There are videos online of the observation deck at the top rocking during typhoons and major earthquakes, but the building is TOTALLY stable because...
5. It has a GIANT METAL BALL at the top to keep it from falling down in earthquakes and typhoons
It's called a mass damper and it's one of the reasons I'm so obsessed with this building. This thing has a diameter of 5.5 meters and weighs 660 metric tons (that's 728 American tons or whatever they're called)! Typhoons and earthquakes make this thing swing around (it moved a meter during a typhoon in 2015!) and that keeps the building itself from moving too much
6. The damper has mascots - Damper babies!
There's mascots for everything in East Asia... But these guys are a hit. There are four different babies in four different colors, all with their own personalities. There's so much merch for them too, and even comic books.
Look at these guys!
7. The entire building lights up on New Year's Eve!
Okay, this might actually be the coolest fact. In America, you go to Times Square and see the ball drop or something for NYE. In Australia you see the fireworks over the Sydney Opera House or whatever. But in Taiwan, Taipei 101 LAUNCHES FIREWORKS OUT OF ITS SIDES! AND the countdown clock is just the entire side of the building and there's a cool light show during the fireworks! Check it out!
8. The top of the building lights up in different colors depending on what day of the week it is!
It's a nice touch. It'll also do special light things for special events (like pride or the war in Ukraine), but generally:
9. It has a vertical marathon every year!
I almost forgot about it, but yeah. You can run up the stairs all the way to the top. Wild!
#taiwan#taipei 101#thank u for letting me share one of my special interests#everybody should come see this building#text

âNot a wind, not even a high, exactly, but an elevation. A sense that you had gone beyond yourself and could go further still...â (âElevationâ) Stephen Kingâs new novel includes a 12 kilometer Thanksgiving race known as the Turkey Trot:) The runners, in this New York City Marathon photo, appear to be descending. But, actually, they are entering the Queensboro Bridge. Long-distance running is often used as a metaphor for the journey of life. Billy Joelâs âYouâre Only Human (Second Wind)â was influenced by the sport of boxing. But the message is the same: âAll I needed was a little faith/So I could catch my breath/And face the world again...â (Photo taken on November 1, 2015)

With only 6 weeks until theđ˝New York City Marathon, Aimee is right on track with her program & looking as strong as everđŞ! Thankfully, Aimee is a rockstar & gives 110% on everything, leaving me with very little concern đ that she won't hold herself accountable when it comes to sticking with the plan. This is an absolute blessing for us trainers đ! . . When preparing for a marathon, it's important that you not only focus on the running aspect, but equally so, your strength training đď¸ââď¸ & recovery process. Marathon training takes its toll on you physically, mentally & emotionally and we want to make sure her body & mind đ¤ are feeling as good as possible on that Fall, November Sunday. . . Exercises like these Rear-Foot Elevated Split Squats to a Balance will definitely help with the physical aspect of the preparation; strengthening the major muscles of the lower body & core, as well as the smaller muscles that'll help stabilize the ankles, knees & hips! As a result, this should make her stronger as a runner đââď¸ while decreasing her risk of injury! . . Aimee, you're an inspiration to us all đ! Keep pushing through & working hard as alwaysđ! "Offseason" Week 1 (10/18-24) training review: Total time running 8 hours, 47 minutes Total elevation gain 2,831 feet Total distance 58.7 miles â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘ Sunday: debuting my new pair of Xero Prios from @xeroshoes . Zero-drop with a thin sole. You can really feel the surfaces that you are running on in your feet, a great way to get back to be completely present and to also strengthen my feet and legs with complete full range of motion. This was my first run on the Putnam Greenway since paved. I like it. â Monday: rest đđ˝ â Tuesday: back out on the Putnam and through Kingsbridge â Wednesday: around Bronx Park, up to Van Cortlandt on Mosholu Pkwy and around the Jerome Park Reservoir. I saw this "⤠Bronx" drawn on the sidewalk in Kingsbridge. Very nice. In NYC, there is no other place that I would want to call home than the Bronx. â Thursday: long run back on the trails. OCA (Old Croton Aqueduct) trail up through Van Cortlandt and Tibbetts Brook Parks to Yonkers Ave, then back to Van Cortlandt on the South County and onto the Putnam. Over to the XC, Cass Gallagher and the other trails I have grown to love running in the back woods. Quiet and peaceful đđ˝. â Friday: rest đđ˝ â Saturday: tested out the Xeros on some gravel trail and hit some Riverdale and Kingsbridge hills. I ran through a Manhattan College XC team workout in the back hills of Van Cortlandt and it was cool to see them pushing it through the hills. â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘ Offseason is in quotes because road Marathon season is done for me and I am not training for any specific race. I am just training for health and fitness, while getting my trail climbing legs back. I am mapping out new long run routes and have many plans for the upcoming winter. There are always levels above where you're at, you just have to want it and go get it. #bronxrunners #runuptown #runwestchester #runthebronx #runnyc #strava #stravarun #garmin #garminforerunner645 #offseason #newbalancerunning #xeroshoes #altra #altrarunning #zerodrop #minimalistrunning #runningastherapy #basebuilding #autumntraining #autumnrunning #brainrecovery #recovery #cardio #strengthbuilding https://www.instagram.com/p/CGxRWn4nE-m/?igshid=c2x7w6d4idov

So yesterday I ran a marathon. Yeah 26.2 miles. I keep wanting to be like âranâ but you know what, I may run slow, I may have DIED around mile 16 and then died even more around 19, and at mile 24 I genuinely was like my legs are going to stop working.... but I finished. It may have been nearly an hour more than what I wanted, but NYC, you are one hell of a course. I fully enjoyed the first half. I loved the groups of people that would cheer me on by name, which then it would go down the line of people to hear my name and also cheer me on, and I felt like I was on top of the world. I really partied with these party people. I would be like âwoo yeahâ and pump my fist when spectators cheered me, and I gave a ton of energy away all the way through, I sprinted over the queensboro bridge, and there was no returning from that. In the end I could not even give the spectators any energy. I needed more training, which I knew, but I was so close to being ready. I still put in so much work, and Iâm trying so hard to not be mad about my legs giving out in the end. I basically knew it would happen. The elevation was a lot!!!!
Onto bigger and better things, but tbh whatâs bigger & better than the NYC marathon?? All I can say is I canât wait to make marathons my b*, come back from this better than ever. I know how I can train smarter next time. I know I will be ready next time. Watch out.

Here I Am, Honey by luckie_dee When Blaine Anderson visits Kellerman's Mountain Home with his family in the summer of 1963, he isn't expecting anything more than days in the sun and games of croquet, but when he and his cousin Rachel meet the staff dance instructors, his plans get thrown for a loop. Blaine's family vacation might just end up being the time of his life. A Klaine Dirty Dancing AU.Â
Another Life by wintercreek Itâs a typical Wednesday. Except for the part where Kurtâs in a suit, wearing the glasses he got last spring but usually only wears just before bed and in extreme contact solution shortages, and miming some sort of imperious dialog with an empty chair.
you go to my head by regala_electra Cuddly tipsy friends celebrating and enjoying inappropriate times together.
life tearing at the seams by regala_electra Itâs amazing how the right distressed designer wear can be mistaken for something one of the dangerous kids would wear. Kurt Hummel, one of the outcasts of McKinley High, dreams of leaving Lima behind. Then Blaine Anderson transfers during Kurt's senior year.
Pavlovian by rospeaks Kurt uses kisses as positive reinforcement without even realizing it. This is very detrimental in the kitchen, unfortunately.
Somebody Kind by robotsfighting Kurt is sick; Blaine is very insistently helpful.
To the Moon and Back by idoltina Blaine Anderson is four when he decides he wants to be an astronaut.
Since The Day We Found You by robotsfighting The Hummel-Hudson house feels like home to Blaine, in a way that his own house never has.
education in harmony by blackmustache Blaine doesn't meet Kurt during his sophomore year at Dalton - but fate intervenes and makes sure they still cross paths a little later in their lives.
Lamb in The Wood by idoltina Six years after New Directions graduates from William McKinley High School, Kurt and Blaine share an apartment in New York. In the early hours of the morning, a phone call from Quinn rocks their world. ⢠warning for character death (artie)
Intertwined and Overrun by idoltina Blaine is nineteen and home for the summer, a newly minted college sophomore. The hospital lights are blindingly bright, but the world has never been darker.
Let it Snow by santaklaine Kurt pinpoints the very moment his heart stops while on vacation at a ski resort with Blaine over the holidays. The vacation gets better after that.
Life and Times of Author B.A. Dalton by oncetwiceforevr Blaine Anderson (aka B.A. Dalton) is a writer from Los Angeles. Kurt Hummel changes him.Â
The Boy on The Seesaw by regala_electra Heâs gay. Itâs not the end of the world. Heâs pretty sure of that, at least he thinks so, and heâs trying to figure it out, but deep down he always knew, even before he had a real word to put there, pinning over his heart three letters gay and the worldâs changed forever. Blaine Anderson's life as seen through several memorable summers and a conversation before his 16th summer vacation.
Itâs Only Time by warble_on The summer before Kurt is to leave for college in New York, he creates a way to keep close to Blaine when theyâre apart.Â
Runner!Klaine verse by YourFairyGodfather Kurt is running his very first marathon for Reasons (and they're really good ones. Probably). Blaine is a marathon junkie with a total disregard for how good looking he is at seven in the morning (or in spandex pants). It's a good thing they're made for each other, because there are 26 more miles to the finish line.
In the Haze by oncetwiceforevr Blaine Anderson is a firefighter in NYC. One day, he meets Kurt Hummel. This is their story.
Oneâs Impossible, Two is Dreary by Lokei Kurtâs voice in his ear is warm and evens out all of the jagged edges on Blaineâs insides. âIâm back early from Callbacks and wanted to make sure to respond to you before it got too late. Care to explain this text?â
In Sickness and in... by flaming_muse Thereâs just Blaine, his hot pillow, and the heavy winter clouds pressing down on his chest. Futurefic.
Not The Boy Next Door by wordplay Blaine Anderson is a struggling musician with a new job. This is the story of everything he finds there. ⢠fic is kinda incomplete without the images but theyâre still within the pdf/epub, *here*
One Foot In Front Of The Other by apropensityforcharm 6x11 reaction. In which Blaineâs first day at NYU isnât too great, until Elliott shows up.Â

Eventually Iâll Get the Guy by mailroomorder When Blaine goes to college and moves into the dorms, there are a few things that are more difficult than expected; it's hard to jerk off when you're living in a dorm surrounded by people, and it's even more frustrating when the person you're fantasizing about is your roommate.

Royal Blue
Pairing: Bucky x reader
Word Prompt: Hoodies, for @captain-rogers-beardâ for #Mimiâs Fall Into Marvel Challenge
Summary: What happens after you accidentally wear Buckyâs hoodie
The royal blue hoodie was on a back of the kitchen chair and you didnât think twice before you swiped it and gathered your snacks for a Brooklyn Nine-Nine marathon.
Your day had been shit. One of Tonyâs new inventions had malfunctioned and caught fire, which set off the sprinkler system, dousing you. Of course, today was the day you wore white, making your blouse see-through. Tony had apologized multiple times, saying heâd dry clean your clothes. You all but growled at him the third time he said something.
Lucky for you Friday nights meant team nights and youâd have the whole place to yourself. You wouldnât have to see Tony until possibly Monday. So you set your sights on Andy Samberg and the cast to make you laugh and make the day better.
Your fingers had turned orange from the Cheetos and your cheeks hurt from laughing. You sighed. It was the perfect way to unwind. You knew the silence wouldnât last long, looking at the clock, the team should be back soon. And as if on cue the elevator doors opened and you heard Clintâs drunken voice. If he was drunk, then everyone but Cap and Bucky were too.
You pulled the sleeves of the hoodie over your hands, trying to disappear within it as your eyes continued to stare at the TV.
âHey Y/n,â you heard Clint sing-song.
You rolled your eyes, nodding but not turning. âAre you still angry at Tony?â he asked at too high of a volume.
âClint, Iâm right here.â
âWhy are there two of you?â he commented, as he sat down next to you.
âCause your drunk, sweetheart,â you replied, patting his hand.
He hummed before stealing some of your Cheetos. âClintâŚ.â you growled.
âIâm hungry,â he whined, before stuffing them in his mouth.
You rolled your eyes before picking up the bag and getting up off the couch. âY/n?â Steve asked suddenly.
âYeah,â you responded, shuffling to the kitchen.
âWhere did you get the hoodie?â
You pointed to the kitchen chair. âThere.â
âItâs twice your size.â
You looked down, noticing indeed it was, laying on your mid-thigh, the sleeves engulfing your hands. You shrugged, pushing up the sleeves to get a glass of water. âItâs Buckyâs,â Steve mentioned.
You spit out your water on the kitchen backsplash. It was⌠no⌠it couldnât be. You looked down again, noticing for the first time the faded B. Oh, fuck, oh fuck⌠it was⌠âWhy are you wearing my hoodie?â you heard a husky voice question.
You turned and Bucky was staring right at you, his eyebrows creased in confusion. âI⌠uhhâŚâ you ripped it off quickly, pushing it into his chest. âI was cold,â you completed before almost sprinting out of there.
You had to put on Bucky Barnesâ hoodie didnât you. You groaned into the pillow before rolling on to your back, staring at the black ceiling. You couldnât sleep. You were plagued with the fact that you had put on your crushâs hoodie. âStupid, stupid, stupid,â you muttered to yourself as you banged your head against the softness. You glanced at the clock. Everyone should be in bed. You sat up, before getting up off the bed and grabbed the blanket, throwing it on your shoulders.
You left your room, using the dim hallway lights to guide you to the elevators. You needed air after your embarrassment, so you went to the one place you could truly find space. The roof.
New York City sparkled all around as you sat on the lounger, staring up at the sky. You wished you could see the stars, it was the one thing missing in the NYC sky. You had always wondered if Steve and Bucky saw them in the 30s and 40s, but you didnât have the heart to ask. You sighed. You had told yourself to get over this little crush, but it had seemed to grown in the past weeks.
Bucky had been doing little things that would make your stomach flip, making sure that you got a cup of coffee in the mornings, the last slice of cake or a voice on what movies they watched. You didnât know what had started it. For the most part, you helped Tony in his lab and trained on your own just because you could. Well, that and Tony insisted you be prepared.
The first time you spared with Steve, you forgot to duck and he had been so close to punching your cheek that you went to the basics of punching and kicking. After months, you had improved to where you could avoid a punch from Steve and he had suggested you start to train with Bucky. You had protested. Your crush at that point was already big enough to where youâd try to be polite and exit the room as soon as you could when he was in it. However, Steve insisted, which had brought you two closer.
A ding of the elevators pulled you out of your thoughts, as your eyes fell on the man that you had been trying to avoid. âHey,â he whispered.
You nodded, curling into your blanket. You tried your best to look small and to be uninterested in his appearance on the roof. You knew his feelings on sharing and it probably had pissed him off that you had taken his hoodie.
You continued to stare at the skyline, watching the light pollution all around that was until Buckyâs figure blocked your view. You sighed. âWhat?â you asked with irritation.
âWhy did you run?â
The bustling of the city was the only sound the two of you heard. He crouched down after a few minutes, as you realized he was wearing the same hoodie you had been wearing early. âWhy did you run?â he repeated.
You looked away before a finger brought your face back to his. You sighed. âI didnât know it was yours, ok,â you muttered.
His finger lingered on your jaw. âThat doesnât reallyâŚâ
âCause itâs you.â
His finger dropped from your face as he stayed crouched. His eyes searching yours. You let out a more exasperated sigh. âGuess we really are doing this huhâŚ..â You stood from the lounger, walking to the edge of the roof, as you kept your back to him. âCause I have the HUUUUUUUGEST crush on you. And I shouldnât. And Iâve tried not to. And the moment, I put it on, I should have known. For FUCKâS. SAKE. I should have known. But life gave me a good curveball today and I just wanted toâŚ.â
You paused. Today had been shit and you had just wanted to be comforted and warm and the hoodie had done that for you. âI wanted to be comforted and your hoodie ⌠it did that for me.â
You shrugged and the blanket fell off your shoulder, exposing skin to the nippy fall air. Silence fell around the both of you again. Your eyes closed and shook your head, pulling up the blanket again. You stepped away from the ledge, the silence becoming too much. You made your way to the door.
âDonât go,â Bucky called out.
You hung your head. It was a simple request and it made you stop, your hand on the door knob.
âPlease, stop running away from me.â
Your hand left the door, but you didnât turn. It took a beat before he spoke again. âI likedâŚ.,â you heard him swallow. âI liked seeing you in my hoodie.â
You felt your heart beat out of your chest, but you still couldnât turn around.
âI like sparing with you. I hate it when you try subtly to exit a room that I just entered. I hate that you donât come to team nightâs unless forced because thereâs nothing I want more than you sitting next to me,â he confessed.
You closed your eyes, letting the moment sink into your skin before turning to face him. Your hand rearranged your ponytail as you stared at him in his blue hoodie and basketball shorts. âDoes this mean I get to wear the hoodie?â you quipped, trying to take the edge off the conversation.
âYou can have anything of mine.â
You laughed. âAnything?â you pondered, as he stepped closer.
âAnything, as long as you stop running,â he answered, standing a foot away from you.
You tilted your head and searched his blue orbs. âWe really going to do this?â
He nodded, as he took your hand. âYes, doll, we are really going to do this.â
âAnd all it took was me wearing your hoodie, huh?â
He laughed, the happiness making its way to his eyes.
âYep.â
You took the step forward, wrapping your arms around his neck. âI want the hoodie, want all the hoodies.â
âDone,â he said before his lips met yours.

Venting Frustration
... not that I know how to talk about my frustration let alone write it into proper words. I canât write eloquent words, pfft.
But, idk. Iâm just in the mood to randomly talk about my obsession with Bruce Greenwood... wait no, Theo! Wait thatâs not right, I meant Kal! Ergh, no, no, itâs the asshole David Bell, right? Wrong, itâs totally about Harry - hold on a sec, Nessa, theyâre basically sharing the same face claim! Damn. My obssession with Bruce Greenwood isnât even funny đ Binge watching his movies/tv shows obviously isnât making it any better - I kept coming up with so much plots based on the feels I get from all the characters, waaa đ #imagonecase
President Theodore G. Rutherford or Theo as he is affectionately called. God damn it, heâs my favourite out of the five, no wait, six, yeah six characters that Iâve come up with thanks to all my insane feels. Heâs easily my favourite for the fact that he managed to ticked off literally everything from my dream guy to marry in a heartbeat list! I basically went crazy and just threw in everything for Theo, all the traits that I love and find sexy as hell, everything that Theo is made up of is solely to satisfy my personal needs, HA! I mean come on, Air Force Pilot who had to resign because of war injuries, Lawyer with a specialty in Constitutional Law though I prefer Criminal Lawyers but it doesnât fit his plot so the next best thing will do! Bahah. Married a girl with quite a big age difference only because I want to marry an older man too, sniff. Just wants to leisure fly his plane but then his Presidential ambition damn it, loves his expensive liquor and nicotine plus occasionally cigar though itâs obviously unhealthy to finish three packs of cigarettes a day but hey heâs sexy smoking those imported cigarettes, ok!? Canât even scold his daughter because heâs smitten and would never raise his voice at his little girl. Designs jewelry for his wife because simply buying whatever Cartier can offer is just not good enough! Has the most impeccable fashion sense because wearing tailored suits and well-fitted ivy league outfit is always a good idea for man of his standings... I rest my damn case, here Theodore, have my heart on a gold platter.
And then we have this asshole David Bell.
I stole his surname. In my defense I was drowning in the sea of feels, I had to save myself, ok!? đ Marathoning The Resident within a day was the best thing I ever did, well next best thing after creating all the characters #2k18youvebeensogoodtomyfeels AHEM. So, let me just briefly introduce you to one of godâs createst creation that is David Bell - damn I love pronouncing his name - and what makes him worthy enough to be mentioned in this magnificent post of mine, hah. Heâs an asshole but a sexy asshole, if he isnât I wouldnât be talking about him now, would I? So, David was the preferiti of Perk-Azaria Hospitalâs - legit amazing name I came up with, eh? - Chief of Surgery to succeed him way back when he first met his third wife aka the love of his life, Natalie. Yes, heâs a twice divorced man who ended marrying a girl twenty years younger than him, in simple words, heâs a damn craddle robber. But hey, David totally didnât start the flirting, guy doesnât even give a shit after the second time seeing his divorce lawyer, lol. Natalie, goodness Natalie, I want to be her in sense that she had the balls to start the flirting, you know? It doesnât matter that sheâs actually Perk-Azariaâs heiress - ok, I kid, it mattered a lot because if she wasnât David wouldâve just indulged and ignored her, hah. - who totally would inherit the hospital one day and being her husband would give so, so much benefit. Of course, her family opposed to it but she loved him and he did eventually fell for her, who wouldât!? Sheâs the definition of perfection, any man would be lucky to have even an inch of her, David is needless to say the luckiest son of a bitch to have her whole. So they married, he got the post he aimed for, life was supposed to be so damn good for them, right? So, so wrong. Throw in affairs, miscarriages, insane ex girlfriend, a brief meeting with death... YEAH. I have one chapter written for DAVID AND NATALIE. Maybe, itâll be made online, who knows.
Look at that adowable face. Stahp it, Harry đĽ
So, umm meet President Harrison Wyatt aka Harry. He is so damn adorable, I just canât! I know, I love Presidential characters, Iâve always wondered if it could be considered as a fetish? Hmm. Ahem, anyways, so Harry, goodness Harry. Thank you, National Treasure Book of Secrets - yeah, Nic Cageâs movies suck big time but thank you casting producer for casting Bruce Greenwood as the nerdy President who studied Historical Architecture in Harvard. Sniff. Lemme marry him. Harryâs plot is just so damn interesting. If Theoâs loosely based on JFK, Harry has 9/11 which tbh I know, itâs quite insensitive but I was watching documentaries and I thought of writing something thatâs sort of based on it but not so? To clarify, I mean no harm, itâs just that tragedies tend to help when youâre a writer? Maybe itâs just me. I was watching The Presidentâs documentary when the plot came rushing in... I thought, what if, the President was in that tower when it happened? How insane would that be, racing against literally everything just to get him out to safety. And then I saw the 9/11 (2017) trailer - would never watch it probably cause apparently itâs a disgrace to the memories so uh, Iâll skip - and how theyâre trapped in the elevator, well hello plot, cue in the President attending a summit held at Sky Tower (yeah, I created my own fictional tower) in NYC when two planes crashed into it, trapping everyone thatâs everyone including other leaders attending the damn summit! So yeah, President and his Secret Service details stucked in the elevator whilst the ones outside climb at least twenty sets of stairs to reach the floor theyâre stuck on before whatever shit happens and they loose their President. Then when heâs out, thatâs when conspiracies and all the dramas start to unfold because guess what? Itâs the Generals starting civil war because Harryâs not listening to them... I named the story The Enemy Within, get it, get it? Hee. Oh btw, Harryâs married to a badass wife called Ingrid who looks like Jaimie Alexander circa long hair and also has twin children, Harley Kai who looks like twelve years old Tom Holland in The Impossible and Chloè Rhea whose face I borrowed from my favourite girl ever, Elle Fanning. So yeah, will work on the script, Harry might be threatened to be given a public execution but he made his Secret Service detail promise that heâd kill him before the enemy gets him because no way will he let his wife and children witness him being murdered live on every damn media platform. Yeap.
I love astronauts especially YOU.
Alex Powell, thatâs what I named him. Air Force + Astronaut = Nessa is resting in peace. Right, for this plot, his occupation is entirely useless as itâs a horror thriller and I just need to make his CV look super good, ha. Where do I even start!? I mean, itâs all about ancestors evil spirits wanting to kill his daughter by possessing his pregnant wife and making everyoneâs life a living hell until help came, epic exorcism before everyone lives happily ever after... or did they not? Who knows.
So uhh... I feel good typing all that. Really good.

I think itâs been a couple weeks since Iâve dropped by with an update, and as usual, a lot has happened! When I last checked in, I was feeling a bit down about my pace. Losing my speed has been the most frustrating aspect of my recovery- it had been YEARS since I did a run (of any distance!) at a 10+ minute pace. Yet, there I was, finishing each of my runs between a 10 and 10:30 pace. The good news, I suppose, is that at least I was consistent, I was running my long runs at the same pace I was running my shorter 5 milers! The problem is that I donât have much time before New York, and my goal is to get the endurance I need in order to finish the full distance. So, I just donât have time for speed work, and I'm really timid about doing hill repeats because Iâm not sure if my knee is ready for these. Therefore, I just got stuck at an easy slower pace.
About 2 weeks ago, though, I got really tired of running so slowly. Having so many speedy friends on Strava and Garmin Connect really put a spotlight on how much my speed differed from that of my teammates and friends. Something had to give. I deleted all of my speed and distance records from my Garmin, and decided I needed to start fresh. I started pushing myself more, mostly on my mid-distance runs. I would run the first 2 miles easily, and then start pushing my pace for each remaining mile, always ensuring my last mile was my fastest. Slowly but surely, my speed increased, and on every run I was getting a new 5k or 10k record. Then, finally, I got a mile under a 9 minute pace. I felt a bit silly feeling so proud of this accomplishment, especially since my pre-surgery MARATHON pace was under 9 minutes. Thatâs right, I used to be able to run 26 miles under a 9 minute pace, but it took me a year and a half of recovery to get just ONE mile in at this pace. Since then, Iâve been pushing myself more, and am happy to be edging closer to a 9 minute average for my short and mid-distance runs.Â
Another issue Iâve been dealing with lately is finding the right shoe. For the past 3 years, Iâve mostly run with Nike Pegasuses (Pegusii?). I think Iâve gone through 5 pairs! Unfortunately, though, I think my days of minimal-support running shoes are over. A few weeks ago, during Hobokenâs annual street festival, our local Fleet Feet had a really great sale on shoes. It gave me the opportunity to buy a few different types at (really) discounted pricing, so I didnât feel so bad if they didnât work out. One of the pairs I got was was a pair of Hoka Bondis. They took zero time to break in (my first run in them was dream-like!) and I was certain I had found my forever-shoe. That is, until it came time for a long run. As soon as I got about 7 miles in, I literally wanted to rip the shoes off and go barefoot. My hypothesis is that the heel drop is so severe, that it puts ALL of your weight on the balls of your feet. This isnât so bad for about an hour, but anything after that becomes just unbearable. Maybe this works for for some people, but it doesnât match my normal strike pattern and itâs downright painful and unnatural for me.Â
We went upstate this weekend, and I had hoped to get in 18 miles for my long run (I was really looking forward to trying a new trail I had found!), and I was on track to do so, but by mile 12 in the Hokas, the balls of my feet and toes were in incredible pain. I kept having to stop and shift all of my weight to my heels to provide some relief. I was only able to finish 15 (after which I took off my shoes and walked in just my socks to where I had parked the car). This unfortunate incident aside, the path itself was gorgeous- see the photo above! Itâs called the Mohawk Hike and Bike trail, and it follows the Mohawk river for 35 miles through the woods. The leaves have started changing in this area, and of course the weather upstate this time of year is perfect. I havenât been running hills at all, so the 500+â elevation gain provided a fun challenge (and reminded me how undertrained I am for the NYC bridges Iâll soon have to conquer!)
Luckily, I also picked up a pair of Asic GTâs as well, and as of today, Iâm trying desperately to break those in before NY (which is in less than 3 WEEKS!!).Â
And lastly, the first photo is from a wedding we attended last weekend for one of my closest Hoboken friends, who is part of the running team I joined when moving here. When I joined the team, it was because I wanted to become faster and have some camaraderie and competition at local races, I didnât realize that I would also gain such close friends. Itâs been 5 years (last month!) since I moved here, and over the course of those years, weâve run hundreds of races together and even celebrated the weddings of four of us (the fifth, and final, wedding is coming up in November of next year).Â
I guess where Iâm going with this, is that I donât fully understand when people say that running (or any sport) is simply a hobby. Will I ever be an elite runner? No way. Will I ever do an Iron Man? Probably not, but I also used to say I would never do a marathon, so Iâm not closing that door for good. Maybe a post-baby goal? I just think that anything that makes you excited to get out of bed at 5am every morning, keeps your heart, muscles, bones, lungs, and brain healthy, AND gives you friends you will probably be close to for a lifetime, is something more special than a hobby. I think itâs more of a lifestyle. In the age of being constantly connected to our smartphones, there are only so many activities you can do that completely disconnect you. Having a three hour get-together with friends where the only thing anyone is paying attention to is the conversation = is incredibly rare these days, but thatâs just what a weekend long run provides. You donât even have to be running with anyone to enjoy this luxury, I look forward to my morning solo runs because the last thing on my mind is work emails, texts and any sort of social media. I just get lost in my thoughts and am able to escape for an hour. I think that for most runners, it becomes natural to have this break from being connected, and is also why we start to go crazy if we donât get our daily disconnect time!
Anyways, I guess the countdown to NY has begun, and with it, FORTUNATELY, cooler weather is finally here. My favorite season in my favorite city, and soon to be running my favorite race :)

A glass wall with large sliding doors allows the Conference Lounge with sofas to become an extension of the Conference Wing with meeting table and chairs or create two distinctive areas for groups to meet:
Client Background
CreditSights is a leading independent financial research firm with a mission to provide value added input that helps their clients make prudent and profitable investment and risk management decisions consistent with their risk profiles. Founded by a group of analysts, the firm has grown from 8 original employees to over 130 employees around the world. CreditSights is purely a research firm and does not underwrite securities or manage assets.
The 3Form LightArt Echo Fixture is a notable design element with two important functions â providing light and acoustic rating similar to a suspended acoustical ceiling without reducing the ceiling height:
Design Opportunity for a new Workplace
CreditSightsâ previous office occupied two separate floors. The planned relocation would allow the entire team to be on the same floor and in the same open office area.
⢠The new office at 2 Park Avenue, a building with a landmarked exterior, was a blank canvas presenting an opportunity, for the first time, for the firm to design an office environment suitable to the teamâs work styles. ⢠In consultation with Kostow Greenwood Architects, the desired workplace plan would have fewer perimeter offices, more open collaborative workspaces and several breakout rooms. ⢠One location for the New York based team was also an opportunity to infuse subtle design elements in the design of the workspace to enhance the firmâs brand presentation.
The open plan office, sit-to-stand desks, promote easier collaboration between teams and healthier daily physical activity. Adjacent workrooms, with digital room schedulers, are an alternative enclosed workspace for one to four employees:
Design Challenges
Low beam heights and high windows presented issues in running mechanical systems, lighting and sprinklers without obstructing the abundant natural light.
The windows in this landmarked building reach very near the ceiling so a lighting/acoustic solution was needed that would not obstruct the natural light.
The building did not permit electrical and data core drills therefore the design attempts to use as much of the existing floor power trenches with minimal additional trenches.
Conceive of a workspace that will foster community while supporting individual work for a team that has never before shared one work location.
Reception connects the two wings: West â open plan office and East â conference rooms:
Design Solutions
Programming a single floor layout
⢠The single floor layout for the firmâs new location is a typical middle core of public restrooms and elevators so Kostow Greenwood programmed the space into separate wings.
o The West wing is the widest and accommodates the main open workspace; the north perimeter offices; break-out/workrooms and an internal office conference room.
o The Northeast wing accommodates the client conference center which is composed of 1 small, 2 medium and 1 large conference room which is adjacent to an open plan lounge that can expand the footprint of the large conference room or be another meeting space
o East wing: IT department open office; storage; dedicated conference room.
o South wing: CafĂŠ & Lounge
Use the open ceiling to maintain the highest ceiling heights
⢠The space came with pre-built slab and beam gypsum enclosures. The contractor carefully opened up areas to run power and data to avoid exposed conduit. ⢠Coordinate the ceiling plan to have the least obtrusive duct runs and sprinkler layout below the finished ceiling. ⢠Selecting a 2-in-1 light/acoustic fixture prevents having to obstruct the windows and the natural light.
The east conference wing contains four conference rooms that can accommodate from 6 to 12 people around tables with additional side seating. A separate Flash Studio with acoustical separation, green screen backdrop, and recording equipment facilitates more varied vlogs for their clientsâ needs:
Distinctive wall treatments
⢠Each break-out room features a decorative wall covering showcasing nature: o Designtex â Leafery o Knoll â Run in leaf o Numerart â Birch top trees
Distinctive lighting & acoustic solution
⢠The 3Form LightArt Echo fixture is a notable design element with two important functions â provide light and acoustic rating similar to a suspended acoustical ceiling without reducing the ceiling height. ⢠Ceiling lights embedded in the suspended grid of the ceiling tiles reduces noise transmission and provide more accessibility to ceiling plenum. o JLC_Tech llc â T-BAR LED ⢠Decorative fixtures in reception area and hallway introducing a play of color o 3Form LightArt â Slim Beams
The conference room adjacent to the cafĂŠ has white board paint walls to facilitate team brainstorming:
Distinctive selection of fabrics
⢠Workstations â Herman Miller: Renew Link Benching
⢠Conference room o Tables â Geiger, Finish: Chocolate Ash, matte sheen o Chairs â Vitra ID Trim Chair, Fabric: Plano 69 Light Gray o Side seating â Coalesse Together Bench, Maharam Brindle â Pharaoh
⢠Conference Lounge o Sofas â Bernhardt Mirador, Fabric: Maharam Taper â Sunset o Poufs â Source Seating Mello Grade C, Fabrics: Momentum Textiles Marathon Noir & Rain, Millenium: Amber o Table â Naughtone trace rectangle coffee table
⢠CafĂŠ o Tables â Falcon 800 Series Table o Chairs â Herman Miller: Eames Molded Plastic: variety of colors Pale yellow, Red Orange, Aqua Sky, Peacock Blue o Bench â Coalesse Together Bench, Maharam Brindle â Watercolor
⢠Reception o Table â Naughtone trace rectangle coffee table o Chairs â Coalesse Viccarbe Columbi Chair with wenge wood armrest, fabric: leather color 116
Open Office with workrooms
⢠To balance the reduction of private offices, the layout focuses on providing easy access to small workrooms that can accommodate 2-5 people. o This allows the firm to have the open collaborative work environment between the research and sales departments, who had been on separate floors, while still providing the ability for private meetings and phone calls in the work rooms. o These spaces can also be used as private offices if someone needs to break away from the open office for a day or a guest office for visiting colleagues.
Incorporating Technology
⢠Broadcast Studio ⢠Technology room schedulers at each work room and conference room allows the team to easily schedule a room from their desk or at the door.
CafĂŠ & Lounge
⢠CreditSights wanted to provide plenty of seating area along the southern windows to entice employees to take breaks away from their desk for lunch and snacks along with providing an informal gathering area for the team. ⢠Open metal upper shelving with live plants in front of a glass panel permits southern sunlight into the entire office while still providing a sound barrier between cafÊ and open office.
Additional Details
⢠Open collaborative workspace with height adjustable desks ⢠Ergonomic chairs ⢠Multiple sized workrooms which feature decorative wall and one writeable surface wall with acoustically sealed ceilings and walls for privacy ⢠Broadcast Studio ⢠Phone/Conversation booths ⢠Wellness room with sink and mini-fridge ⢠Additional staff restroom and single occupancy ADA accessible client restroom ⢠Open cafÊ / lounge and pantry (fridge, dishwashers, sink, microwaves, ice dispenser, seltzer/water dispenser, coffee) ⢠Conference / IT area drink station (fridge, dishwasher, sink, seltzer/water dispenser, coffee) ⢠Multiple sized conference rooms & open conference lounge
The design for the cafĂŠ introduces natural wood and plants with industrial hardware shelves. A low-tiled wall topped with a glass divider separates the open plan office with the cafĂŠ. The glass divider permits light into the open office while providing a noise barrier:

The 2017 NYC Marathon.
I donât know where to start with this one.
I trained my ASS off for 4 months. I think I missed a total of 4 runs the entire time.
Marathon Day:
We were up at 4:40 am to get out on the bus to Staten island from Manhattan. I dozed off on the bus and the next thing I knew we were walking to the athletes village in fort Wordsworth. There were police, army, tanks, guns EVERYWHERE. I felt safe. We grabbed coffee, bagels, Dunkin Donuts hats and found ourselves a place to lay down until 11 am when our wave started.
The time passed quick and the nerves came on REAL STRONG.
Then we were running.
I trained for a time goal so I had a pace bracelet on to help me. I followed it religiously in the beginning. I had my garmin set up to only show current lap distance and pace. As each mile passed I refocused on the new pace. ( I had it set up to adjust pace for elevation etc)
I felt really good in the beginning, The nerves were gone.
Somewhere around mile 10 my mind just went crazy. The gps on my watch wasnât reading accurately so my pace was showing wrong, I assumed due to the buildings and it THREW ME OFF. I struggled mentally the last 16 miles.
I FOUGHT. I went in and out of a bad place for a long time. I just ran. I didnât know how fast I was just going. I walked through a few water stations the last 10 miles or so but thatâs all the walking I did.
I will note: Hansons prepared the hell out of my body. I felt amazing physically. My body was GOING but my mind was just having a BAD DAY! I cant blame hansonâs for that because it started pretty damn early in the race.
As I was crossing over the last bridge from the Bronx back into Manhattan a coach from team in training ran with me for a bit. She was great, I wasnât able to tell her how much I appreciated it but I sure felt it!
ALSO- spectators, let me tell you how important they are! You guys are rock stars. You come stand on a street for hours to see your loved one run by for maybe 3 seconds and then you move and do it all over again. Seeing my parents and my best friends parents multiple times on the course was SUCH a boost!
The crowds in NYC are INSANE. People kept telling me but you donât realize the magnitude until you are out there experiencing it!
As I was approaching the last few miles I checked in with my watch, I knew if I just kept running I would PR.
I went into the race with 3 goals.
A goal was 4:30 B goal was until 4:40 C goal was anything under 4:47 ( my current PR before NYC)
I knew A goal was gone,B goal was pretty much gone but if I kept running I was going to PR. So I pushed.
when people tell you to âDig Deepâ ITS HARD but thatâs exactly what I did. I PUSHED.
And then the next thing I knew I was approaching the 800 m left, then 400m left then 200m and then I saw the finish line. Iâve been watching the marathon on TV for years and Iâve seen the finish line a million times but running up to it was amazing. Knowing I secured a 4 minute PR was fantastic!!! I thought I would be more disappointed that I missed my A goal by 13 minutes but I wasnât. I knew i left it all out there. I donât think I could have done any better on that day. Who can be mad when they PR by 4 minutes!!
Huge shout out to all my friends for texting me and snapping me with the most amazing words of encouragement. It meant EVERYTHING! Some of them will be reading this on here⌠I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!!
I feel like this post is all over the place. Words are not my thing, but there it is.
Iâm still riding the high 2 days later and plan to ride it out as long as I can.
Thanks to everyone for being SO supportive and following me on this LONG journey!!!

Run Things
YoOoO I have been kinda quiet on here about running lately and tbh I was avoiding writing about this because I want to convince myself itâs not an actual thing BUT just because I write about it doesnât mean itâs super serious and if anything yâall might have some words of wisdom SO
Basically ever since running NYC my left knee has been feeling kinda wonky. I think the cause has to do with the fact that I spent all fall running in the OBX aka somewhere with almost zero elevation change and of course, the NYC race course has some hills thrown in there. Ever since the race my knee pain would tend to flare up after a run making it really painful to bend my leg but usually by the end of the day/next morning it felt fine.
Flash forward to winter break when Iâve been running at home (re: many hills) and my knee is acting up a lot. Iâve been icing it and trying to cross train instead of running as many days but it is ! frustrating !
I chose to forego my long (medium distance) run this morning and just walk on the treadmill/elliptical it up instead and I think Iâm going to take the next two days for total rest, Iâm driving back to school anyway so there will be a lot going on. The pain is definitely not overwhelming but itâs been hanging around long enough and it hurts enough that I know it isnât normal. Trying to remind myself that it is waaaay better to choose to take a couple days of rest now than to be forced to take months of rest later. Plus, it was this time last year that I was injured and unable to run for months so I think that has me a little bit freaked out.
Iâm supposed to start marathon training this coming week (!) so my top priority right now is strengthening the area, giving it the break it needs, and trusting that  a little time off will be well worth it in the grand scheme of things. Shalane Flanagan took 2 weeks of total rest when she was injured last spring and then she came back to win New York SO...thereâs that
That is all, happy saturday my beautiful sunflower runner peopleÂ

I ran the NYC marathon last week. It was my third time running the race and by far the most difficult. My slow recovery from the injury I sustained at Missoula left me undertrained. I started out too fast and crashed early - finally dragging myself over the finish line in 4:33. The post finish area is a crush of people slowly shuffling forward. The crowd kept me from walking fast enough to keep my blood pressure up and I had to climb over a barrier and lie down at which point a race volunteer had me taken to the medical tent. After 15 minutes with my legs elevated and a few bottles of water and salt packets I felt fine and left to wait for Beth to finish. This race was another reminder that no matter how many youâve run, every marathon is really hard. If youâre undertrained itâs even harder.
