October 2022
Remember that when you ask for something, it becomes more possible that you will receive it. Your abundance is not measured by the things that you own. Your abundance is measured by your capacity to ask, to dream, and to answer. // Alice Sparkly Kat, October 2022
Matt and Rachel from Northern Ireland. Chatting about their time in Uzbekistan and the latest season of Derry Girls in the pool at Zephyr Lodge. Maya rolling my joint in exchange for a GnT. Talking to Declan about his business idea - importing his brother's honey from New Zealand to the UK.
Taking two interesting books from the hostel library: Susie Orbach's In Therapy and Labyrinth of Solitude by Octavio Paz.
My host family in Antigua - the couple was the same age as me and they had a feisty little daughter, Sofía. Unfortunately, their young dog caused a few problems so I grew resentful and was glad to leave after a week. But I enjoyed the learning opportunity because we always had long conversations in Spanish during our meals together!
The fresh laundry smell of the towels during my massage. Lemongrass-flavoured macadamia oil. Chill vibes and relaxing music, a nice masseuse. A good experience. Afterwards: more pampering. A lovely coffee to go and a passion fruit macaron. Making an appointment to get piercings.
I went to a shitty hostel party with Moana and Declan and was promptly abandoned. The attractive Austrian guy ignored me as well after a very short conversation. Frustrating. But I was very grateful for Miles and Lucie, a friendly couple from the UK. They took pity on me and I actually ended up having a good time. I even swapped shirts with Miles when he spun the wheel and got clothes swap with the opposite gender as a dare.
Cindy, my super friendly and professional piercer. I even met her tiny son at the studio!
Baking chocolate zebra cake with Sofía. Buying pink star sprinkles for her. Drawing rainbows together.
A cat (Misha) sleeping right on my table at Fernando's café. The word maullando/maullar (= to meow).
Simple but delicious Guatemalan food. Making Dobladas together. Frijoles con Tortrix. Invueltas de coliflor (cauliflower dipped in egg, then fried). Atole (a drink that reminds me of semolina pudding) and Chayote (a local type of vegetable).
Finally starting with my Insta stories, trying to catch up on the first two months of my sabbatical. Getting lots of positive feedback!
My first volcano hike (Pacaya). Walking uphill and climbing over the rocks was extremely hard and exhausting for me but somehow the view is always worth the pain. We grilled marshmallows over the hot stones, there was smoke coming out between the interesting lava formations. The sunset above the clouds was breathtaking and I got to pet a few horses.
More good words: sagacious/sagacity.
Robin Sloan's writing (he just released another great short story about a hotel in NYC, room service and publishing books).
Breathwork with Arija. Adiemus. A floating, expanding energy feeling. So good. Drawing OSHO cards. I got Past Lives and Celebration.
Swimming in the clear lake. A few rays of sunshine. Writing in my journal.
Lipton frambuesa ice tea. Palomitas with butter and salt. Mildly obsessed.
A day at Eagle's Nest. Breathwork. Talking to Ines and getting to know Véro from Canada/Paris. Drinking cappuccino with a view, sketching interesting houses from a distance. CATS. A spontaneous decision to stay for yoga. Shockingly it was a hip hop hip opener class but I was surprised by how much fun I had! Chrystee's awesome playlist surely helped. I felt strong and flexible and advanced. The view over Lago Atitlán from the platform made me feel so privileged. I received lots of recommendations, e.g. eating at Búho (which I did and the vegan tasting menu was incredibly delicious), and Roatan tips from Véro. We also talked about brave location and business changes.
I saw my first scorpio!
Belly scratches and toe beans - hostel cat Ana lounging in the morning sun.
Yoga, Reiki and then a lovely breathwork class with lots of breath retention and visuals. Purple, pink and orange. Emerging shapes. The reiki teacher touching our chakra points. I tried to paint what I saw using watercolours afterwards and loved it when the sun came out and illuminated my painting. I really should paint more. Palo Santo on my hands to remind me of the experience. Releasing some tension and feelings.
Kimchi miso soup with rice, beans, tofu cubes and lots of veggies at Del Lago. Deliciosa. Need to recreate it at home.
(And the lovely peanut butter cookie I ate for dessert.)
I found pretzel buns, sourdough bread with black olives and buttery almond croissants at Circles Bakery. Jackpot!
Meeting Brian and Lily in San Pedro. Drinks, karaoke, Hawaiian physio moves, deep talk and silly jokes (I like penis a lot = Pina colada).
Taking the boat to go to the other side of the lake, being surrounded by volcanoes. A truly special place.
A lucky streak when it comes to aiming accurately before throwing objects into the bin.
Seeing my first hummingbirds!
Horny breathwork. Learning that what angers me is instruction. Being told what to do. And a Russian accent? Intrusive questions. Especially about feelings. Tell me what you're feeling and where is a demand that made me shut down completely. Difficult but interesting - where does this resistance come from?
A morning swim in the lake. Enjoying the sun and view of the volcanoes. Spinning around and meditating in the water.
A party with horrible hippie trance music - I felt so out of place. But I actually had a little fun whenever the DJ played something Bollywood or hip-hop inspired.
Jarra embroidery on the curtains in my room at Del Lago.
An extremely chill Sunday. Desayuno típico. Meeting Za and his daughter Petra. A video call with Sash. A croissant from Circles Bakery. Bought a ring for my conch piercing. Creative play session with Kyle (he had face tattoos and I kinda loved them on him). I was the only one there so we started talking and he wanted to do some Inner Child Work. I told him about my favourite witch stories from when I was a kid. I would sit at my desk for hours, drawing and listening to audiobooks. So he sent me to the garden to collect things for a spell he wanted me to create. I had to walk through the magic gate to step into my powers. So I intuitively came up with a spell for more balance in my life. I burned my spell, included all elements using holy water from Lourdes and plant materials. I drew tarot cards and wasn't surprised how accurate the images mirrored my intentions. I got The World and it meant the world to me. The Sun and Two of Swords. Powerful. Afterwards I had the best massage with Alicia. Lots of movement and pressure. When I came back to the hostel I went to the sauna and swam in the lake after sunset.
Volcano rumbling. So cool.
A private Family Constellations session with Sara. She told me repeatedly that the wood, possessions, crystals, oils and scents are what she's drawn to as my soul. I have to follow what excites me, comes easy to me, speaks to me. Not be afraid of people but find them in the right context, not at parties but in art workshops. Make deeper connections. Try to live authentically. Get into contact with inner child: provide the love, acceptance and protection I'm missing.
Voice activation with Stefan. Activating our chakras through humming. I loved pretending to be a band and layering instrument and voice loops, listening to each other. Improvising.
The Indian Nose hike was quite the adventure. The three of us got a tuk tuk up there before sunrise and actually had to walk a few times because we were too heavy for the vehicle. It was still dark when we started hiking and I had a pretty hard time keeping up. When we arrived at the view point I just wanted to rest but there were already so many people, talking loudly and taking photos. I was a bit disappointed and annoyed. After a while I decided to walk back down by myself which was pretty nice. My mood got better immediately and the view really was breathtaking. Walking through nature on my own was lovely. I enjoyed the coffee plants growing all around, the morning sun, the cows grazing on the fields.
The Western Astrology workshop with Echo where I learned more about the different planets and houses.
Waking up early. Hearing a very interesting bird song for the first time. A squirrel balancing on a washing line. Fluffy (the bitchy hostel cat) meowing outside the bathroom door. Cuddles and scratches... and then she accepted to be transported into my bed. She chose me! Proud moment.
Another day meeting friends (Chopper, Lily and Brian) at Vida Café. Speaking German with Chopper. A rainy afternoon at Eagle's Nest, happily untangling and rolling up Lily's yarn. Falling flat down on my ass on the slippery hill even though Brian had warned me before was definitely not a highlight but at least I didn't hurt myself.
Eating Sabis (Israeli pita bread filled with eggplant, falafel and hummus) in San Pedro with Omer and Nir.
Appreciating the fascinating consistency of a brownie when you're high.
Learning that layered music optimally stimulates the ADHD brain. No wonder I love mashups and loops so much. Bayonne's music and movies like Pitch Perfect just hit the right spot!
Standing in an office supply store. All the pens and paper. Buying an exercise book to use as a journal.
A Radiant Life podcast.
Working on my sketchbook and really getting creative. Just doing whatever feels right. Glueing in holo garlands and beer labels, drawing psychedelic mushrooms, hyping myself up with tarot wisdom. Geeking out over mexislang words, birth chart/astrology info, just doing quick sketches.
Participating in a Mayan fire ceremony.
Playing Game of Fives with the volunteers. Feeling included. connecting with Mali and Lukas from Graz.
Arija. Talking about her volunteering at Fungi Academy. Deciding to apply for a position there myself.
I found a dead bird in the yoga shala. There was a butterfly right next to it. Death and life. Transformation. I gave the bird a funeral in the lake. Put it on a big leaf and made a bed with beautiful flowers and twigs. I said a few words and put it down on the water.
Matching with the charismatic Austrian guy I met at a hostel party in Antigua. There was still no spark between us but I felt as if life had given me a second chance. Or maybe it was just to show me that he really wasn't meant for me and I had no reason to be sad about a missed connection.
Indian food in Panajachel. Delicious garlic cheese naan. Getting a few pens at the stationery shop. Writing many pages in my journal.
Looking out the window while driving through Chiapas during golden hour. Feeling the strong urge lo live in a valley, near a forest. With animals and a vegetable garden and a studio and an old house I can renovate. The landscape reminded me so much of home.
Returning to San Cris. Tasty tamales and my favourite vintage store.
When the earplugs start blending out the outside noise - a continuous, gradual deafness.
Waking up in the night bus during sunrise, overlooking a gorgeous valley with eagles hovering in the air.
Smelling the fresh strawberries in my salad. The smell of Do's shower gel lingering in the air. Late afternoon sun. A red cat strolled along the wall below the café. Taking in the view.
MicroEnormous immersion theatre - it gave me so many ideas and I loved wearing the trippy glasses! Prisms, lights, sense deprivation, smells, rituals, mezcal - a very celebratory mood. I need to connect to darkness more.
The Día de los Muertos festivities in Oaxaca. People in costumes, painted faces, musicians in black velvet, flowers and decorations everywhere.
A group video call with the fam. All agreeing on living together eventually? But I'm afraid I can't count on them at all. So I'll have to do my own thing. But Michi said something so nice about me. That I'm courageous and talented and will always land on my feet. And that I should just go for it and work as an artist. New idea: working part time as a teacher and finding another job that actually brings me joy for the rest of my time
The tapete at MUPO and other cool art. I'd forgotten how much I love museums.
Meeting Yeshua for dinner at an Indian restaurant. Getting drinks in Reforma, playing pool. Learning new words, watching people doing tricks on their motorcycles on the way.
Another Treat Yourself Sunday. I bought a tiny cup made from Oaxacan clay - a typical one with a face. And a white kimono top with manta rays. Got a café latte frío (only coffee, milk, ice cubes. No sugar. So grateful for everything unsweetened). And a massage. Then I took a taxi to book fair where I met Diego. We spent the evening together, drawing at a restaurant and drinking beer on my hostel's rooftop.
Writing on the right side in a new notebook.
Meeting Paulina at the crowded bakery with great bread and coffee. Bonding. A walk through Xochimilco, amazing weather and decorations, the graveyard. Honoring my feelings, taking myself out of the situation. Resting, getting food.
Finally seeing Meggy again!
My Catrina face paint - I thought I looked so gorgeous and made Paulina take photos of me!
Dante's Inferno at the historic Teatro Macedonio de Alcalá.
Live music at the bar next to our hostel where a girl tried to set me up with her friend. She made us all dance together and the bar owner unsuccessfully tried to teach me Cumbia.

“Holy shit, it’s freezing!” Beca hisses as she steps out of the car, making a dash in the snow for the front door of the cabin the Bellas will be staying at for the next three nights.
She punches in the code given by the owner via email and pushes the door open just as Chloe makes it to the top of the steps, following her fiancée inside.
“Oh wow,” she breathes, taking in the huge space that’s a perfect mix of authentic and modern, with a jaw-dropping view of the range of mountains in the distance through the large bay window in the living room.
The perks of having a famous girlfriend; they didn’t have to pay for anything, Beca having made a deal with the owners to promote the place on her Instagram while they stayed there for their bachelorette weekend.
A fire is already crackling in the wood-burner and a welcome basket with goodies sits on the kitchen island. Chloe walks over, plucking the note.
“Dear Beca and Chloe. We hope you and your friends have the best time at our cabin,” she reads outloud before taking a look at what’s inside: a couple bottles of wine, cheese, chocolate and fruits. “That’s so sweet of them.”
Beca hums, sliding her arms around Chloe’s waist from behind and hooking her chin over her shoulder. She nips at Chloe’s earlobe. “How much time do you think we have until the others get here?”
“We’re here, pitches!” Amy’s voice interrupts Chloe’s lusty thoughts before she can reply.
She giggles at Beca’s groan, patting her forearm and stepping out of her embrace to greet their friends. Everyone’s been so busy this year, their last reunion dating back to last New Years Eve. “Hey guys!”
“We brought booze!” Stacie exclaims, holding up two bottles of tequila. “I’ve got like, a bunch more in the trunk.”
“Let’s pimp this place up, ladies,” Aubrey instructs, carrying a box containing what looks like rainbow themed-decorations.
“Oh jeez,” Beca mutters as once everyone greeted everyone, the Bellas move about the place to prep dinner and whatever else they have planned for herself and Chloe. “Should we be scared?” She mumbles to her fiancée.
“Trust me, you haven’t seen anything yet,” Stacie says as she walks past them, winking.
Yeah. They should definitely be scared.
The first night turns out to be pretty low key, Jessica, Ashley and Aubrey whipping up an amazing dinner for all of them. They drink wine and play a drunken game of Twister and Cards Against Humanity, turning in rather early as they plan on hitting the slopes the morning after.
“Today was so much fun,” Chloe gushes as she swipes through her photos once they’ve made it back to the cabin after their day spent skiing. “I even caught your fall on film.”
Beca grumbles, trying to get her cold fingers to work down her jacket zipper. “You better not post that on social media, Beale.”
“How’s your ass?” Chloe smirks, locking her phone and tossing it on the bed.
“Bruised.”
“Poor baby,” Chloe sighs, pushing to her feet and sliding up behind Beca. She peppers her jaw with soft kisses and nuzzles her cheek. “Come shower with me?”
Beca seems to fight off a shiver, not one triggered by the cold. “Be there in a sec.”
Walking into their fancy ensuite bathroom, Chloe turns on the spray in the Italian shower and strips the remaining layers on her body before stepping under the hot water. Slender arms loop around her waist less than a minute later, Beca’s warm body pressing against hers.
“You think you can be quiet?” Is murmured against her ear as one of Beca’s hands slides downwards.
Chloe bites back a moan, turning around in Beca’s arms and stepping back until her back hits the stone wall behind her. She watches with darkened eyes as Beca lowers herself to the tile floor and hooks one leg over her shoulder, Chloe’s eyes sliding shut at that first lick.
When they eventually come out of the shower a while later dressed in matching robes, they find Bride-to-be shirts folded on their bed, along with a sticker stuck to one of them.
quit boning and meet us downstairs! the party’s awaitin’
The back of the shirt sports selfie of them that they must have taken from Chloe’s instagram.
“This is so cheesy,” Beca grumbles as she shrugs it on, but Chloe knows she secretly loves it.
“There they are!” Stacie shouts when they make it downstairs fifteen minutes later.
Music is pumping through Beca’s expensive wireless speaker and the coffee table is covered in various liquor bottles, snacks and a handful of pizza boxes.
“Have a seat, ladies,” Amy motions to the two chairs facing the couch with a flourish of her hand, bowing her head.
Chloe and Beca sit down, and Jessica and Ashely set a rainbow tiara on their heads and sling a bride-to-be sash across their chests.
“We had each of you fill out a bachelorette quiz a week ago, and you’ll have to guess the other’s answers. If you get it wrong, you have to take a shot,” Aubrey explains, motioning towards the row of shots set on the coffee table.
“And if we get it right?” Chloe questions, cocking an eyebrow.
She’s gonna crush this game.
“You get to pick a present out of the gift bag.” She nods to the large tote bag sat between their chairs. “Any questions?”
Both shake their heads as Aubrey plops down on the couch between Emily and CR. “Chloe, what is Beca’s favorite feature about you?”
“That’s easy,” Chloe beams, glancing at her fiancée with heart-eyes.  “My eyes.”
Beca rolls hers as Chloe leans in to kiss her cheek before reaching into the bag. She wraps her hand around a bottle and pulls it out, reading its label. “Ooooh, coconut massage oil.”
“Boring. Alright, next question,” Stacey says, plucking the sheet from Aubrey’s hands and ignoring Aubrey’s objection. “What could Chloe eat every day?”
Beca smirks, and without a beat of hesitation, replies, “Me.”
Emily flushes hard, Stacie smirks devilishly, while Aubrey makes a face. The rest of the girls hoot and whistle, and the tips of Beca’s ears redden.
“I knew you’d put something dirty on a bachelorette quizz,” Beca murmurs into Chloe’s ear a beat later as she leans across the short distance between them. “Otherwise I would have said pizza.”
Chloe grins, leaning in to peck her lips. “Correct.”
Beca fishes a gift out of the bag and unfolds the clothing item. Her cheeks turn a shade darker. “Wow, that’s… I have no words.”
The pair of hot pink panties read: You may now bang the bride.
“I love them!” Chloe says, snatching them from her fiancée’s hand. “I’ll keep ‘em.”
“Chloe, what was Beca’s first impression of you?”
“She thought that I was crazy,” Chloe replies. She shrugs, smiling sheepishly. “I did break into her shower.”
“The word we were looking for was intense,” Stacie corrects with a tut. “Take a shot.”
“Oh come on, she’s just being polite because I’m her fiancée!” Chloe argues with a laugh.
“Take a shot, ginger!” Amy shouts.
With a grumble, Chloe plucks the shot glass in front of her off the table and knocks it back, grimacing at the burn as it slides down her throat.
Jessica is the one to ask the next question. “Beca, what was Chloe’s first car?”
“Seriously!?” Beca asks. “How am I supposed to know that?”
“You do!” Chloe points out, a shit-eating grin spreading across her features.
“Really?” Beca mumbles and reaches out to take her first shot.
“My old Jeep! We had sex in it,” Chloe blurts out, giggled as Beca chokes a little on the liquid. “And broke the front seat.”
“TMI,” Aubrey winces, her nose scrunching up before she takes a sip from her red solo cup.
“Chloe, what job did Beca want to do as a kid?” Emily asks.
Chloe’s eyes light up. “Oooh, she wanted to be a detective!”
Beca chuckles. “I was obsessed with Scooby-Doo as a kid.”
“Aw, you found your real life Daphne!” Ashley gushes while Beca rolls her eyes.
She bends to pick something from the bag, pulling out a pair of padded handcuffs.
“Oh, nice! Ours isn’t padded,” Chloe comments, as she takes them from her fiancée. She leans in to whisper something into Beca’s ear. “I know you like it when it hurts, but I don’t like seeing you all bruised up.”
“Beca, your submissive is showing,” Stacie states when Beca blushes from Chloe’s comment, plucking the sheet from Emily’s hold.
“Beca, what’s Chloe’s biggest accomplishment?”
“Easy. She has two: winning the Worlds and getting into vet school.”
“Nice, babe,” Chloe praises, holding her hand up for a high-five.
By the time they’re finished with the questions, Chloe is definitely buzzed (she had like three shots out of fifteen questions, which isn’t too bad in her opinion), and they’ve added a few gifts to their pile, a variety of sweet and kinky: matching Mrs and Mrs mugs, a bottle of lube, two sets of gorgeous satin pajamas, a spa treatment for two at Chloe’s favorite establishment in NYC, and a strapless strap-on (the best in the market, according to Stacie).
“Now we believe Beca has something planned for Chloe,” Aubrey says as she stands, taking Beca’s phone from Beca’s hand.
Chloe’s head whips to the left towards Beca, an eyebrow raised in surprise. “You do?”
“Mhm,” Beca hums while four of the girls move the coffee table to make space. She brushes a too short kiss to Chloe’s lips, pulling away before Chloe’s ready to end it, and casts her a wink as she steps backwards. “Go sit in that armchair.”
The opening notes of Beyoncé’s Dance For You drift through the speakers, Chloe’s jaw dropping when she realizes Beca is about to dance for her in front of their friends.
“Oh my gosh,” Chloe breathes out with a laugh, her body temperature cranking up a notch as she gets comfortable.
Beca’s hips start to swivel to the beat of the song, hands leaving her hips to slowly hike up her sides. Her fingers tangle into her brunette hair as she twists to stand sideways and slowly shimmies lower. One hand leaving her hair, Beca traces her bottom lip with her pointer finger and bites down onto the tip before she straightens, arching her back so her ass sticks out as she rises from her crouched position. She adds a hair flip to the mix before slowly strutting towards Chloe, perfectly on cue with the beat, all the while keeping her gaze locked with Chloe’s.
“Work it, girl!” Stacie shouts as Beca stands in front of Chloe, bending down so that they share the same breath.
A chill runs down Chloe’s spine as she resists closing the distance between them, knowing from the wickedness flashing in Beca’s eyes that she’s bound to pull away before their lips can touch.
Beca spins around, her hips matching the chorus as she bends at the knees with her legs spread and grinds it low for a few beats. Her perfect ass brushes against Chloe’s body on her way back up, and it takes everything in Chloe not to grab and squeeze it.
The volume rises around them as the girls cheer and hoot, but Chloe can only focus on Beca and how sexy she is as she turns back to face her, hands running through her own hair then drifting down the curve of her neck, over her breasts and stomach.
“It’s called a lap dance for a reason, shortstack,” Amy calls out as the song flawlessly transitions to Drunk In Love, the perfect arrangement no doubt one of Beca’s works.
Chloe’s mouth dries up as Beca sets both hands on Chloe’s knees and spreads them apart.
“No touching,” Beca husks lowly, nipping at the shell of her ear and eliciting a quiet moan from Chloe. She turns around and her hips start to move in a slow, sensual dance; swerving, popping, grinding and occasionally rubbing against Chloe’s crotch.
Spinning back around, she braces a hand by Chloe’s head and sets her right knee in the space between Chloe’s left thigh and the arm of the chair, rolling her body towards Chloe once. She straddles her lap next, her lips parted to accommodate her heavier breathing as she stares down at Chloe.
Chloe’s fingers dig into the leather of the arm rest to keep her hands from touching Beca as her hips gyrate in lazy circles in her lap. When the song comes to an end, Beca cups her cheek, pulling her into a deep, languid kiss which Chloe eagerly returns, finally giving in to the burning desire and palming her ass, giving both cheeks a firm squeeze.
“Alright, alright! We get the message,” Aubrey’s voice cuts through their lustful lip lock.
“That was so freaking hot,” Chloe breathes across Beca’s lips, nipping at the bottom one before backing away. “I need the rest of that performance later.”
Beca wets her lips, smirking. “Deal.”
Games less centered around the brides-to-be follow as they pass around a joint of weed and eat pizza while sprawled out on the various couches in the living room.
It’s past three am by the time they head upstairs, and Chloe can tell by the expression on Beca’s face that she’s high. Chloe only took one hit and feels fine, if not still a little drunk from the shots she downed at the start of the party.
“You okay?” She asks, catching Beca staring at her with a look as she pulls her sleeping shirt over her head.
Beca nods. “I’m just… we’ll be married in less than a month.” She seems to ponder on her words for a few seconds. “Married. That’s like… big.”
Chloe raises an eyebrow and steps closer, lowering herself on Beca’s lap as she sits at the foot of the bed. “Are you freaking out?”
“Weirdly, no,” Beca replies as her arms loop around Chloe’s waist. “I actually can’t wait. For our wedding, our honeymoon, our kids…”
“Our kids, huh?” Chloe questions in amusement. She twirls a brunette lock around her pointer finger. “How many kids are we talking?”
“Mmm, at least two. I didn’t like being an only child and you loved growing up with siblings so I want that for our children, too.”
Chloe’s smile is so big, it almost hurts. “Sounds like a good plan.” She brushes a kiss to the apple of Beca’s cheek. “You know what else sounds like a good plan? You giving me the rest of that performance. Preferably with less clothes on.”
Beca’s eyes darken at that, her lips curving into a smirk. “Yes, ma’am.”

5 Things You Can Try When You Experience Occasional Back Pain?
Most of us at any point in their life will experience back pain. As per several back specialists in NYC, 80-90% of us will encounter debilitating back agony eventually in the course of our life. Realizing that you’re not alone won’t help to reduce the back pain but it will help to get better help as several people around you are experiencing the back pain.
It is not possible to seek the help of specialists whenever you experience the pain. At that time you consider alternative methods such as we have mentioned below.
Tumblr media
1. Rest It:-
The vast majority of us have a bustling life, among occupations and family, and there is a brief period to get regular rest, not to mention additional rest.
Take a couple of breaks throughout the day to rest and stretch your back out, just as drop the weight from the spine and muscles. I don't mean total bed rests enticing as that would sound like a few days, yet only a brief break, around 4-6 times for the day.
After the break, do some slow stretches before bouncing right once more into your everyday practice.
2. Massage Treatment:-
Whenever we think about massage, think about luxurious time. But that’s not true, massage is one of the best and preferred ways to overcome occasional back pain. Even some of the back pain doctor NYC suggests messages as the best alternative to get rid of back pain. However, the result of the massage stays for short periods which mean you need to visit your massage therapist every month or in some worse cases of back pain, even every week of the month.
3. Medicate It:-
Some of us hesitate to have surgery procedures that are the reason why they avoid visiting a back pain specialist. Luckily there are some medicines also available that can help to feel relaxed from occasional back pain.
If you make a move and see a back doctor NYC, then you will be able to explore the number of options available for back pain. Depending on your condition, your back pain specialist will prescribe you the best medicine that will help to feel instant relaxation in back pain.
4. Hot Or Cold Therapy:-
Cold treatment is utilized just after an accident or injury since it assists with decreasing inflammation and facilitates the agony. Cold treatment can include:
Prepackaged Cold Packs.
Ice Wrapped in a Towel.
Cool Water Bath.
Warmth can be applied to help with a muscle strain, and lessen fits and increment your scope of movement. Warmth treatment can include:
Warming Pad.
Hot Stone Massage.
Hot Bath.
Simply try to wrap whatever tool you are utilizing, regardless of whether it's hot or cold, instead of applying it straightforwardly to your skin.
5. Look for Medical Advice:-
In worse cases, when back pain is not reducing and causing unbearable pain. It is recommended that you seek out the assistance of the best back doctors NYC. They are medical specialists to treat back pain related issues. They will examine your back and will suggest the treatment based upon your needs.

(Affordable) NYC Spas to Help You Melt Your Stress Away
During my first few years of living in the city as a college student, I thought spas were exclusively for adults who had their lives together. There was something about the luxury of spending a day at the spa that seems unattainable for someone my age.
However, halfway through college, I discovered the holy grail of spas – their capability of removing toxics and tension from your body, and gifting you the temporary relief from real life. After each time at the spa, I felt a sense of bliss and serenity that I didn’t felt before. I felt like I could go into my studies and work with more of a calm state of mind. Spas are really worth the investment, since you really reap the benefits.
As a “real life” adult now (aka not a student), I’ve grown to appreciate the miracles that a spa day does more than ever before. Especially as we’re heading full-on into the holiday season and the temperature dropping uncomfortably, a day at the spa not only relaxes you, but it also keeps you warm and cozy.
An Excuse to Escape Real Life
Additionally, as we’re becoming ever-so connected with our phones and social media, a day at the spa can force us to stow away our tech gadgets, and just immerse in an internet detox. This is personally one of my favorite parts of a spa day – it gives me an excuse to ignore emails, texts, and direct messages, even though it might be just for a few hours.
The ultimate best part is that, there are a lot of affordable spas in the city that can get you your money’s worth. You can treat yourself without breaking your bank account. Also, there are always great deals for spa admissions on apps like Groupon and LivingSocial. I don’t know about you, but I’m such a sucker for a good deal.
So Where Are the Best Places to Go?
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and indulge yourself with a well-deserved spa day!
Here’s a list of the best spas in NYC that gives you the best bing for your buck, including reviews from real New Yorkers like yourself!
Ohm Spa
205 E. 16th Street, Suite M2A, NY, NY
Tumblr media
Image Credit: Ohm Spa & Lounge via Yelp
Ohm Spa is known as one of the best spa destinations in the city. Its mission is to serve guests who have chronic stress and fatigue. The spa specializes in targeted massages and rejuvenating facials. They also provide CBD oil based massages, which on their website is described as “the infused massage cream is fused into the skin throughout the session to provide a unique sense of calm and relaxation.”
One TripAdvisor reviewer writes:
“So great to find a middle ground for a massage between the very expensive spas in the hotels and the very cheap in Koreatown nearby. Soothing waiting areas, lockers provided along with robes and slippers make you feel pampered and chilled ahead of the treatment.”
Metamorphosis Day Spa
127 E. 56th Street, 5th Floor, NY, NY
The muted lights and a no-cellphone policy definitely makes this spa a tranquil environment. Metamorphosis Day Spa has an extensive menu, offering facials, mani/pedis, and body treatments. The six-room spa is best known for their extra-gentle waxing, affordable laser hair removal packages, and splurge-worthy couples massages.
A Yelp reviewer says:
“Go here for a massage and ask for Katy S.! She did a FANTASTIC job. Swedish style massage with acupressure. It was both relaxing and rejuvenating at the same time. She helped relieve a lot of the stress and tension I was holding in my back and shoulders. She will customize the massage to take care of the areas you need the most work. I walked in feeling sore and walked out feeling like she worked most of my pain out within an hour.”
Eden Day Spa
388 Broadway, NY, NY
Tumblr media
Image Credit: Eden Day Spa via Yelp
Located in Tribeca, Eden Day Spa combines Eastern and Western spa practices. Their menu offers a wide range of services, from Thai-infused massages to Russian-typed facials, and Asian-style mani/pedis. Their signature body service is the Sandy Beach Scrub. All you need to do is step into a free-standing deep wooden tub, infused with rose and lemon water. You are going to be bathed, buffed, and brought into a state of bliss.
A praise from a Yelp reviewer:
“Eden Day Spa always been that very stable constant in my life that I know I can rely on for relaxation, for comfort above all other spas. While they have a great selection of services that they have always offered (get my monthly wax, manicure, and deep tissue massage), I am glad to see more modern practices like non-surgical fat freezing. The place is kept very clean and quiet and the sandwiches and pasta are delicious. Facials by Yvette are absolutely spectacular and you can never go wrong with the skincare products they have to offer. Every experience I have here is one to cherish.”
Aire Ancient Baths
88 Franklin Street, NY, NY
Tumblr media
This one is especially perfect for a frigid NYC day. Also located in Tribeca, Aire Ancient Baths bring you back in time to the classic Roman bathhouse – only cleaner and modernized. Their floors are made out of heated marble stones, which will make you feel like a mighty emperor. They also have six candlelit specialty pools, ranging from hot to icy, and including saltwater floating and bubbling jet pools. With no-cellphone and no-photos policies, your privacy is secured and you can truly escape.
Recently, a TripAdvisor reviewer wrote:
“Overall, the facility is extremely clean. I get a little grossed out to think I’d be sitting in hot tubs with random NYC people. But, it was actually great. You don’t even notice other people because there are so many candles and light music playing that the ambiance rids any idea you’re in the concrete jungle.”
Shibui Spa
377 Greenwich Street, NY, NY (inside The Greenwich Hotel)
Tumblr media
The Shibui Spa has an iconic roof from a 250-year-old Japanese farmhouse that hovers the spa’s pool and lounge areas. Their body treatments are holistic and nature-driven, focusing on the well-being of your mind, body, and soul. In the wintertime, they have a special body treatment with coddling mango butter and Australian clay. The spa was built entirely out of wood, water, and stone – emitting a strong nature vibe.
A Yelp reviewer claims:
“Absolutely an indulgent environment. Perfect for a relaxing evening. My partner and I both received Thai massages. We both very pleased with our service. My masseuse had excellent technique and created a truly calm experience. The hotel itself is beautiful with an old world touch. I would definitely return.”

I'd love to read more head cannon on max and hiromi & rei and hiromis romantic relationships if you can think of anything more to add!
Oh sure, absolutely anon!
Disclaimer: These characters in my headcanons are imagined as adults, not kids.
Max and Hiromi:
1. Max and Hiromi are the kind of couple who’d stick little Post It notes with small messages for each other everyday. Like let’s say Hiromi is studying and Max decides to leave her be, he’d leave a sticky note on her books saying “ace it, angel.” Or if Max decides to do the cooking on any day, she’d leave a sticky note on the refrigerator door with something sweet and romantic.
2. Max and Hiromi totally would be the kind of couple who’d leave no stone unturned in ensuring that they learnt more about each other’s cultures. Yes, Max is part Japanese and does have a connection to his roots, but having grown up mostly in NYC, he has not been raised in an environment where he knows a lot of Japanese things. So he puts in twice the effort. Like maybe Hiromi would come home one day and find Max trying his hand at Ikebana for Hiromi. Maybe Hiromi herself would not know much about Ikebana, but she’d appreciate the hell out of him making those beautiful floral arrangements for her. Conversely, Hiromi would also listen to Max’s playlist of English music and surprise Max by humming them around him and singing with him.
3. Adventure sports! Max totally gets Hiromi into trying out all kinds of adventure sports and Hiromi loves it that Max makes her overcome all her fears and feel so alive! And Max himself loves how sporting she is about it.
4. They TOTALLY take at least one class together at the university. Yes, he’d probably be more into technical fields or physics and she’s more likely to major is psychology or something, but they’d take a common class and study together and compete together. Whoever scores less gets to do what the other wants. The competition is always neck to neck with both of them scoring lower alternatively and it’s hot!
Rei and Hiromi
1. Rei and Hiromi are a very reserved kind of couple. They’re not much into public displays of affection as such, but definitely can’t keep their eyes off each other in public.
2. As I said before in an earlier headcanon, Rei is one for grand gestures and Hiromi has a strong maternal instinct. So these two pamper the crap out of each other. So maybe, Hiromi would surprise him with romantic candlelit dinners while he’d send a bunch of flowers to her house, maybe everyday, while he is wooing her.
3. They love to do most things together - like taking a dance class together or a cooking class together or yoga.
4. Rei gives the best massages and Hiromi happily lets him.
5. They support each other no matter what happens. Both Rei and Hiromi are very mature about their relationship and make it a point to never avoid each other after a fight.
6. Oh, these guys totally have a jar! A jar where every time one of them shouts at the other, they write down a sweet lovey dovey apology for the other after they cool down. At the end of the year, they open that jar and read their messages together and it only reinforces their bond!
I hope this is okay, anon!

Behind Illicit Massage Parlors Lie a Vast Crime Network and Modern Indentured Servitude
Law enforcement officials said there were an estimated 9,000 illicit massage parlors across the country, from Orlando to Los Angeles. Many of the women are Asians smuggled into the country to pay off debts. What would you do if you found out that a friend was going to use the services of an illicit massage parlor: (1) Say nothing since it’s freedom of choice, or (2) try to intervene and prevent him from going? Why? What are the ethics underlying your decision?
She was 49, a recent immigrant and deeply in debt to a loan shark back home in China when she answered an employment ad three years ago that promised thousands of dollars a month, but offered no job description. She realized too late that she had been tricked into working at a massage parlor in Flushing, Queens, where besides kneading backs, she was expected to sexually service up to a dozen men a day.
Some of the clients were violent, and the boss charged $10 a day for her to sleep on a sofa in a room at the parlor where rats nibbled on her food. “The customers were very terrible,” said the woman, who, ashamed of the stigma of her former profession, asked that her name not be used. “After you perform a service, they would find an excuse to take the money away.” They would, she said, “do even worse things.”
In strip malls across the country, neon signs and brightly colored placards promise hot stones, acupuncture and shiatsu with photos of women or couples receiving relaxing shoulder rubs. But a traditionally Asian form of therapeutic relaxation with deep roots in big-city Chinatowns has spun off a different kind of massage parlor that has little to do with traditional remedies. It has exploded into a $3 billion-a-year sex industry that relies on pervasive secrecy, close-knit ownership rings and tens of thousands of mostly foreign women ensnared in a form of modern indentured servitude.
The frequently middle-aged women who work in parlors with names like Orchids of Asia and Rainbow Spa are often struggling to pay off high debts to family members, loan sharks, labor traffickers and lawyers who help them file phony asylum claims. In some cases, their passports are taken and their illegal immigration status keeps them further in the shadows, with some of them rotated every 10 days to two weeks between spas operated by the same owners. Forced to pay for their own supplies and even their own condoms, many women must sleep on the same massage tables where they service customers and cook on hot plates in cramped kitchens or on back steps.
“We stopped thinking about just cages, bars and chains as the means of coercion,” said John Richmond, the State Department’s top anti-trafficking official. “They are using nonviolent forms of coercion.”
The recent arrest warrant filed against Robert K. Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots — and the solicitation charges filed against nearly 300 men in multiple jurisdictions as part of the same case — riveted national attention to a stretch of Highway 1 along Florida’s Treasure Coast dotted with strip malls, gas stations and sapphire ocean views. Across the region, parlors were empty and many frequent clients were phoning their lawyers, wondering if more warrants were going to drop.
Law enforcement officials said there were an estimated 9,000 illicit massage parlors across the country, from Orlando to Los Angeles. The epicenter of this national underground is the bustling Chinatown in Flushing, in the New York City borough of Queens. Women — typically Chinese, but also Korean, Thai and East European — arrive at Kennedy International Airport, learn the trade and are sent out to places like Virginia, Iowa, Texas and Florida. Women are recruited locally through ads in Chinese-language newspapers or over the social network WeChat.
“Flushing is the center of this network,” said Lori Cohen, the director of Sanctuary for Families’ Anti-Trafficking Initiative, which has interviewed around 1,000 massage workers over the past five years and helped the 49-year-old immigrant who was sexually assaulted leave the business after she was arrested. “They are showing up in different parts of the country, but all of them have addresses in Flushing, Queens,” she said.
The women are paid just a sliver of the $60 or more the client pays for an hourlong massage. Their real money — and chance at a better life — comes in the form of tips, which they are encouraged or forced to amplify through illegal means.
A 60-year-old former massage worker from Taiwan, who agreed to be identified only by the nickname she commonly uses, Tina, said she was lured into working at a massage parlor in New York a decade ago by the travel agency broker who helped secure her visa to travel to the United States. “People come here and don’t have a place to live,” she said. “These places offer a place to live, and it seems like a nice idea. They say, ‘It’s not safe to keep your passport on hand,’ and they will ask to hold the passport.”
She was arrested several times before getting out of the business, and feels comparatively lucky. One close friend was spirited to Texas by traffickers, she said, had her passport taken and was forced to see eight to 12 customers a day. One day the tearful calls she often received from her friend came to an abrupt halt.
“A lot of the businesses that look like either nail salons or massage places, especially the places that offer massage, there are bad things happening there,” she said. “It’s 100 percent organized crime.”
The ubiquity of the massage parlors offers an accessibility and sheen of normalcy not offered by traditional brothels. And as the massage parlors have expanded even into small-town America in recent years, meticulously detailed review sites like Rubmaps have served as the Yelp and Foursquare of the illicit parlor business, with graphic anatomical descriptions of the women and explicit breakdowns of the sexual services proffered.
Even at illicit parlors, owners and managers can claim ignorance of the additional services offered by employees behind closed doors. The evidence gathered during raids and searches often tells a far different tale. The police say it is common to find ledgers tracking the number of “dates” women have had, as was found in a bust in Dallas in 2016. In one case in Kansas, a search of the premises yielded a notebook with handwritten Chinese-English translations that “included sexually explicit phrases such as ‘did you bring condom’ and ‘happy ending.’”
A federal law enforcement official, speaking on the condition of anonymity because this person is involved in active cases, said that the most common method for smuggling women from Asian countries was either a fraudulent tourist visa or a fraudulent work visa, such as for nursing work. Many came as students, then overstayed to work in the sex industry.
Many women arrive in the United States from China bearing heavy debt burdens and try to find work in restaurants or nail salons. But the money isn’t good enough for the five-figure debts weighing them down. The massage jobs are presented as opportunities for fast, easy money.
“They will talk about how they used to work in a restaurant and it was really hard physically and they couldn’t make that much money, and then they heard from somebody or saw an ad saying they could make a lot more money in a massage parlor,” said Leigh Latimer, a supervising attorney at the Legal Aid Society’s exploitation intervention project in New York.
One reason the Asian massage parlors remain so poorly understood is the extreme reluctance of the women to speak with the police and even with their own lawyers.
“Even though I’ve represented many, many women arrested in unlicensed massage parlors, because of the level of distrust of people working, almost all immigrants, almost all undocumented, they don’t trust even their attorneys enough to let them know what’s happened to them,” Ms. Latimer said.
Some fear retaliation by traffickers to their families in China, and some feel morally indebted to those who helped find them a job, said Chris Muller, the director of training and external affairs at Restore NYC, an anti-sex-trafficking organization.
“This is a powerful exploitation tactic,” he said. “Any favor is implied there is going to be a payment back. ‘Look at what I have done for you. I found you a job. I found you a place to live and this is how you repay me?’”
Small networks of spas are also common, and their ownership structures are complex and opaque. “It’s rare that you have a mom-and-pop business where they’re just running one,” said Lt. Christopher Sharpe of the New York Police Department’s vice section. “Usually if they’re running one, they have a second or a third business.”
Bradley Myles, chief executive of Polaris Project, a nonprofit that works to combat human trafficking, said that the madams arrested on big raids like the recent ones in Florida — known as “mamasans” — are often women in their 60s and 70s who have spent decades in the sex trade but are usually pretty far down in the organization.
Above these site managers is usually a person who appears on paperwork as the massage parlor owner, but is often just a frontman running a shell company. The payouts from the shell company go to what is legally known as the “beneficial owner.”
“Very little is known of the behind-the-scene owners,” Mr. Myles said. “They are hiding behind shell companies, hiding behind mamasans. They are hiding behind fake people.”
In addition, the networks have groups of drivers that help move the women from place to place. Some networks are only two or three layers deep, others four or five.
“I’ve certainly seen indicia of larger networks and indicia of powerful transporters,” said the federal law enforcement official.
The Florida Department of Health disciplined 62 massage parlors or therapists last fiscal year, up from 14 the year before, records show. The agency receives upward of 300 complaints about unlicensed massage facilities each year.
Department inspection reports described women inside the spas living in tight quarters cluttered with essentials, including rolling bath carts stuffed with toiletries, shelves lined with coffee mugs and cooking pots and stashes of assorted snacks. The women slept on individual cots and in some cases appeared to keep their belongings and blankets inside locked plastic trunks.
Their IDs showed that several of them had addresses outside Florida, including in Flushing, N.Y.; Lilburn, Ga.; San Gabriel, Calif.; and Temple City, Calif.
Those who are arrested are not necessarily left to their own resources. When sheriff’s deputies in Martin County, Fla., were interviewing Lixia Zhu, 48, one of the massage parlor employees arrested two weeks ago, it wasn’t long before a New York lawyer arrived and identified himself as her lawyer. The lawyer, Baya Harrison IV, told The New York Times that Ms. Zhu used to work in New York and that her friends had hired him to defend her.
The county sheriff, William D. Snyder, said Ms. Zhu had tearfully told deputies and a public defender about how her passport was kept from her in a locked safe and how the woman she worked for once threatened her by brandishing a gun.
One woman in the Florida sting has been charged with human trafficking, after police officers conducting surveillance saw her shuttling two other women carrying suitcases in and out of a spa in Vero Beach.
Bob Houston, a former F.B.I. agent who now works as a consultant to combat trafficking, said that Thai traffickers often employ elaborate schemes to help women intended for the massage industry apply for tourist visas. The traffickers create false back stories, giving women the appearance of an established life at home, including a spouse and bank account, all to help them qualify for a tourist visa. They even produce fake diplomas from massage schools. The tab is usually $40,000 to $60,000, he said.
“They owe a bunch of money to the people who recruited them,” he said.
In December, 36 people in Minnesota were convicted for their roles in a Thai sex trafficking ring that shuttled hundreds of women from Bangkok to cities across the United States, including Phoenix, Las Vegas, Atlanta and Minneapolis.
The women, referred to as “flowers” by the criminal organizations, were forced to work at massage parlors with no choice about where, when and with whom they performed sex acts until their debts were paid off. They were permitted to move around outside the parlors only with so-called runners working for the organization, evidence in the case showed.
The decision by law enforcement in Florida to focus on patrons of the establishments in such a public way rather than the women working there has generated a lot of fear among clients.
John Musca, a criminal defense lawyer with an office in Vero Beach whose website advertises sex crime defense, said he has received panicked phone calls from many men who frequented the establishments and are worried that the police are about to come knocking.
“There are a great number of folks who are on pins and needles,” Mr. Musca said.

Thermage Skin Tightening in NY
“This newest breakthrough technology is every Thermage practioner’s dream! When I received my first treatment with the new tip, it felt like a hot stone massage to my face- it was that comfortable. Of course, the results were fantastic!” —Lisa A. Zdinak, MD
Newest from Thermage –  CPT only at Precision Aesthetics!
Precision Aesthetics is the first practice in NYC to offer the newest Thermage CPT advanced Facial tips and vibrating handpiece!  Always on the cutting edge with Thermage, we will be using these new facial tips coupled with the upgraded handpiece exclusively on every facial Thermage procedure performed in our facility.  The improved technology delivers an even greater skin tightening effect than the previous tips with a treatment designed around patient comfort!  This procedure  has managed to achieve these astounding results via breakthrough technology in the following ways:
GREATER SKIN TIGHTENING THROUGH A NEW HEATING ALGORITHM
The redesigned facial treatment tips deliver enhanced heat distribution and uniformity, which lead to improved volumetric heating. A greater volume of tissue is heated to target temperatures and the heating is more evenly distributed across the treatment area.*
Data from clinical studies demonstrate that the Thermage CPT system heats four times more tissue to therapeutic temperatures than current technologies. This translates into even more skin tightening than what was available with the prior facial tips!
UNPARALLELED COMFORT THROUGH “COMFORT PULSE TECHNOLOGY”
The new Thermage CPT system employs “Comfort Pulse Technology” along with a new vibrating handpiece to enhance efficacy and greatly improve patient comfort. The new CPT technology helps in the following ways:
A new vibrating handpiece offers a clinically proven improvement in patient comfort. In controlled, split-faced clinical studies, comparing treatment of over 40 patients with vibration to treatment without vibration, all patients preferred being treated with vibration.*
Thermage is a safe, non-invasive, radiofrequency (RF) cosmetic procedure that’s clinically proven to help smooth and improve skin for an overall younger looking appearance. The treatment delivers natural looking results with little to no downtime—on all skin types on and off the face, all in a single procedure.*
The new energy delivery algorithm interweaves pulsed radiofrequency delivery with cooling bursts mimicking Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation [“TENS”] therapy, to confuse the neural input and to improve comfort during treatment.*
The heat is now more concentrated directly into the tissue being treated with less spillage onto the edges of the tip, eliminating that “pinch” at the end of the energy pulse.
