guys-

as i'm sure you may know by my sideblog @coyotix, i am a warrior cats kid. mainly for the animation yknow i like drawing animals and it helps develop my art style, but it won't stop me from getting involved in the characters and (occasionally good) plotlines. au animatic are fun too.

well you see the problem with being in such a large animation community is that almost every idea has been done before so originality is really tough to pin down. so many times i have gotten a fantastic idea for an animation only to find that like six people have done it already. like it won't stop me from doing it but then i don't feel as original abt it yknow? not a self deprecating thing, it's just a bit disappointing?? if that makes sense??

so it's currently 2:18 am and im listening to music, and chant from hadestown started playing and OH MY GOD i had a fantastic idea for a map with the song, using stories and characters from the broken code arc!! and i was immediately disappointed with myself because it's a well known song and a well known story, so naturally, someone has done it already.

NOBODY HAS DONE IT.

I FOUND A WELL KNOWN SONG WITHIN THE ANIMATION COMMUNITY AND A WELL KNOWN PLOTLINE WITHIN THE WC COMMUNITY.

AND THEY HAVE NOT YET BEEN COMBINED.

I FEEL SO FUCKING POWERFUL.

watching the sdcc panel and i am just very :) about how sweet their answers to “what are some of the micro moments from the game that have stuck with you the most over the years?” are. taliesin saying what the fuck is up with that which was the first like The Party Gets To Know Each Other moments of c3. travis saying asking his wife if he could kiss her in campaign. marisha going way back to the cannonball competition in campaign one. ashley choosing the beauyasha date but also just the silly goat noise matt made. liam adding onto that to compliment matt roleplaying grass so well and then saying his favourite moment was writing a story for laura and reading it to her as caleb for jester. and then matt saying that was his answer, and that his favourite moments of the game are when they find ways to give gifts to each other whether tangible or not. and sam saying his favourite moments have less to do with the story and is more so when he can just. see his friends across the table from him. when marisha perches and when laura and ashley are (badly) drawing dicks and liam saying he loves when sam sneezes and ashley tells him to stop it and just. yeah. they Are an extremely popular online powerhouse, but i’m so happy that they’re also friends building a world together out of gifts to and love for one another.

like i Am so enamoured with the characters and the world of exandria but the moments when you can feel the love that those people have for each other reach out from behind the stained glass of their performances (to steal a metaphor from brennan lee mulligan) are so extremely special and i am endlessly grateful that they decided to share their silly little home game with the world.

#it’s just the. laura and travis’ characters always being supportive of one another when they’re facing hardship #taliesin and marisha consistently making characters who challenge one another and still protect each other relentlessly #all of them being so fond of ashley’s characters always and literally seeing them light up in c1 episodes when ash got to join in person #sam and liam always making characters who offer one another reprieves into kindness that they don’t always get in the campaign setting #liam making orym after falling in love with keyleth as vax #marisha making laudna after matt’s storytelling with delilah and choosing vex as her body double #ashley using ‘i would like to rage’ and matt having kord ask her where she finds her strength #laura and matt always weaving these deeply complicated and emotional interactions between a daughter and a father #the gasps and yells and clapping when matt makes cool sound effects or reveals a map or breaks/ends on a cliff hanger #them ending both campaign 1 and 2 with ‘what a great/nice story’ and travis saying ‘let’s do it again!’#and it’s like. yes yes i love the comics and i’m a fan of tlovm but . seeing this well produced thing that somehow mimics #the feeling i get sitting in my living room laughing with my roommates about my ranger’s giant rat failing to climb stairs #it’s very special it’s very sweet #critical role #sdcc 2023 #taliesin jaffe #travis willingham #marisha ray #ashley johnson #liam o’brien #matthew mercer #laura bailey #sam riegel #cr cast #critical role cast #my posts

#It's like the happy media equals angsty fandom and vice versa but like. Video game series about the dreams and adventures of childhood with #A fandom full of angst and abandonment and depression and smut #It's why I don't really stay in the loz fandom long each time I circle back around #There's so much potential for good things and comfort and snuggly warmth and lightheartedness.#Like yeah messed up things happen in front of and to link but kids are resilient beasts and most importantly they fix it #He's literally wearing the Peter pan hat to invoke that sort of eternal wonder that's the DESIGN of the hat that's why it's so identifiable #Fanart captures it a lot. Oh lu fics are just full of miscommunication and resentment and sour interactions and pain and simmering anger #I prefer to read trusted authors because it's so wearing but the problem is you have to go out and find them lol #It's a very controversial belief of mine that every link enjoyed their adventure even if it was scary or sad and would not be averse to #Another. Oh the circumstances they might hate. having thoughts about what makes an interesting idol rhythm game

#i can expand upon it but i think its mostly like. what's the gimmick it's using and how is it executing it #like enstars you have the 3d mvs that you can put whoever you want in and have different outfits to put them in #d4dj you have the dj booth layout that you play with and it utilizes it very well #hypmic is a rap based game entirely and also utilizes record scratching imagery in its gameplay #and then proseka and bandori. proseka's gimmick is very obviously like vocaloids #but in the game play its trying to be too many things and failing at all of them #they have some 3d mvs but the layout of the beat maps makes them like #not really. something i notice when i played it. bc the way they have the map layout set up it kinda grays out the video #which means you might as well not have it on. for enstars the lanes are entirely transparent #so you can see the mv clearly as you play if you have 3d mv on u know #and then like. idk the proseka gameplay just feels brutal.#mostly because it times when you lift off the hold notes and literally no other game does this #even games that use goods as combo breakers like hypmic dont fucking do that #also i do appreciate the flick notes in hypmic being just. flick whereever feels natural #helps a lot while playing to just flick whichever way you want #but anyway yeah i think proseka is relying too much on the vocaloid schtick and people just ignore the atrocious game play #like d4dj does straight lane better. hypmic and enstars are both ring lanes that do their gimmicks well #i do not like proseka can u tell #i didnt play enough bandori to really tell u whats going on there but i did not like the layout for their game #and its made by the same people who make proseka so like. no hope for me getting into it #anyway #shay speaks

#Doodles #Original #Texture work is original sure lol #Went in hard on one of those Drawing Advice posts about ''Hey - literally just put pencil to paper and go no worries''#It was fun :D I Do still want to just doodle freely sometimes!#I still enjoy some structure to it so I ended making a grid of various like map-style textures to tell different biomes apart lol #But just general funsies scribbles were pretty good! I enjoyed the lot :)#S'good to just Make with abandon sometimes haha #I really like the hatching effect generally and it's something I want to improve at/implement more so the practice was nice there :)#Layering on paper/with only the one digital layer is always an interesting exercise in negative space and keeping things readable #I like drawing clouds with notably flat bottoms haha I think it's funny that they just sit there #I guess I'm used to cirrus clouds a lot so seeing cumulus big puffies with a clear delineation between bottom and the rest is just fun to me #They look like toys! Designed to sit! But they're just up there! How fun!#Squiggly branches/veins was something I did a tooon as a kid before I got into Drawing On Purpose y'know #Just pages and pages of branches on branches #And curls that curled away from each other - did a little bit of that with the circles and lines but not that much haha #I dunno if I still have any but it's interesting how that dwindled down to basically never over time #I definitely know what I prefer to draw these days but hmm still wonder a bit!#And loop-di-loops haha I was thinking of Erase quite a lot for that one honestly #And the way some Disney Princesses give autographs which one is it-#Belle! Recent game related things .. hrmm...

#I do like the inconsistency of the first map. that is actually something older but that I re-found and added to my Game Reference stuff #so that when characters reference where they're from I can be accurate. I like that the whole map is kind of shifted up that way. Where the #actual south part doesnt even count as the south since its Too Far and Scary lol. and if you say you're from 'the north' thats basically #like.. one single continent. Though some people do make distinctions like 'north midlands' or etc. still. I like the ways that common #language isn't always precisely accurate like that. and thinking about why a culture would classify things a certain way or etc. etc.#The inventory page is so funny to me because it's literally just the BASe like.. sample layout just to make sure it works properly with 0 #actual design into it. just colored rectangles thrown together in MS paint. but what if I like... left it like that.. what if all the other #art in the game and UI is like stylized and fully matching BUT the inventory/journal/etc. screens I just left as plain colored blocks #with random misalignments and black spots and etc gjhbhjj... It looks unfinished in a Funny Contrast way to me.#the wordcounts are just like... my past few days of writing.. I am still not getting 2200 words a day done or whatever I needed. I'm lucky #if it's even half of that .... tee hee.. :3c I do also keep having appointments and other things going on but..grrr...#The full map of the area is probably not necessary but I thought it would be more realisitc if people were able to reference things. Like i #you have people all living in a city area probably at some point someone might mention a neighboring city or some landmark nearby #or etc. so I thought having at least the basic names of what's around for reference would be sensible. A side character mentioning #'oh yeah I don't live here full time I just travel from Marisene sometimes' or whatever makes it seem more like a Real #Fleshed Out Place than people just making vague references like 'the river' or 'i come from a city nearby' or 'i went to a place somewhere #around here' or 'the other city' or etc. lol.. Especially since global cities/global areas are weird as they operate almost like an #independent country within their walls. so it's like a micro country inside of another country usually. just plopped down in some agreed #upon plot of land that won't be too disruptive to the main country around it. That could get very complex depending on the cultural and #political backdrop of where they're placed (though obviously they try to choose the 'easiest' areas possible for it). Asen is a very mild #country without much history of conflict or anything so it's fine. But still interesting that Sifeh and the entire branched out global area #border three other districts of Asen. Which means like 3 times the local representitives you'l have to negotiate with for some major change #or anything. I think one of the 'random characters you can find around the world and have short discussions with just to make the area #feel more populated and real even though theyre not actual important npcs' is going to be a guy who actually serves on the council that #handles running the global areas and he's like.. some perpetually exhausted middle aged elf running around with a clipboard or whatever #ANYWAY...... hrgh... still trying to write when I can....#I WISH so badly that I had the scope for a simple character creation menu and all character interactions would allot for the background #of your player character. And also to have a simple day night cycle where places in the world you explore/people you talk to during the day #have new options or dialogue at night.. BUT alas... I already am so behind on everything as is lol.. aughhh... T o T #As the worlds number one Needless Detail And Complexity Enjoyer i must dilligently prevent myself from adding additional complexity

Estinien.#Like how on earth would she notice.#Also Aymeric quickly falls in love with her too but never mentions it or anything during HW proper #then Haurche's death shatters that core polycule (unintentionally but he was the glue between them)#Estinien just shlorps back into his shell and does not talk to Aymeric about what just happened until Events take over #and after Events he fucks off and doesn't talk to Aymeric properly for whole expansions worth of time (and SB is LONG)#So they're kinda functionally over or on ice until things can get talked through properly #and Frog has a sisterly relationship to Estinien and falls for Aymeric after the failed dinner date while regretting that #and then they don't get together until post-EW #and by EW in Frogverse Estinien has had such a hot girl summer emotional recovery arc away from Aymeric #he's falling in love with the dragon equivalent of Aymeric - Vrtra #to be seen if he can reconcile with Aymeric and how Aymeric and Vrtra would get along #and if that's too much for Frog re: Estinien being involved in anything and she nopes out of the whole situation #So. Yeah.#Post-EW so far is a Frog shipping golden era but who knows what next #the lure of Zero and Y'shtola is calling XD #That's probably a whole Mess too but maybe more fun and less full of paladins

After all these years, the Zelda series has reached its full potential

#just beat it #no spoilers upcoming #but it's incredible how they took everything that people said was lacking in BotW #dungeons story music enemy variety the final boss etc etc etc #and did everything we could've wanted #while adding a mindboggling amount of mechanical depth and polish #and increasing the scale of the map 1 and a half times over #yes obviously it has flaws #the dungeons are great but don't quite reach the peak of past zelda dungeons #there are FAR too many separate currencies and upgrade systems #making it feel like you have to stop playing zelda to warp around and run some errands every so often #(there is literally only 1 thing you can do with crystalized charges why do i have to go to a separate place just do it automatically)#and other such tiny nitpicks #but it still feels like the final realization of everything zelda always could've been #for the first time since march 2017 my favorite game and my pick for the best game of all time are the same #pops talks zelda

i cant talk for any other hyv game but i do think it’s interesting how hi3 and genshin’s story flaws/ideals are bc of the very specific medium they’re in.

#genshin is open world you are literally brought into another world #so every character you get Has to be different and Has to represent a particular person.#there’s not necessarily that aspect of time and growth which is so so interesting bc time is so important in genshin #genshin’s world is fun bc you really don’t need to be into the lore to enjoy it #there’s a lot of flexibility to be had #you can walk around or explore or kill things etc etc #you can enjoy the scenery or the music you can decorate your teapot etc etc etc!!#and i think that it being so immersive works well for the game! it’s one thing i really really adore abt the game even though it brings #flaws i don’t like!!#honkai is more focused on story telling which makes it’s open world maps weaker and less immersive #you’re expected to look at the text rather than the characters #and bc the gameplay can be so. Typical bc you’re jsut switching between Combat and Story.#it can get stale if you’re not immersed in the story #like. at least if you’re only in the game for the battle aspect there’s a skip button but like. yk. can get tiring.#but it being so limited means the story as a whole gets so much thought and focus put into it #and you can tell!!!!#each character (even side characters) are intertwined with each other #and there’s layers of commentary and symbolism and relationships everywhere!!#and that’s the point! it’s on purpose!#it can be incredibly overwhelming for new players #esp bc the information is honestly. kinda inconvenient to get to.#but getting the grip of it leads to truly understanding How Much the characters actually change and grow #and the fact that the characters have multiple battlesuits only amplify that #bc each battlesuit for each character will be different from other battlesuits :3 #hnk3 #gi
