Norwegian legendary Folk Rock band Gåte released Ulveham (Wolf Skin), a new album accompanied by an inspired music video for the title-track. The song was inspired by a 1000 years old Norse ballad and was picked by the band to exhibit the quality of Nordic music in the Eurovision Song Contest, with the finals taking place on May 11th 2024.

As a photographer I particularly enjoy shooting them because they know stage presence and have a locked-in look that grabs your attention. “Along with a few other classics of classical music, this is one of the first pieces of music I owned and listened to. My brother and I had a well-worn cassette of Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt that my parents would sometimes even allow to be played in the car on journeys to visit random relatives in more affluent English towns. The familiarity and tranquillity of Morning, the delicate buoyancy of Anitra’s Dance and the bombastic drama of In The Hall of the Mountain King accompanied those journeys and gave us resolve for a weekend of awkward conversation and boredom ahead. . Grieg’s masterpiece was written at the request of his countryman Henrik Ibsen, to be performed as incidental music for his play, transformed from Ibsen’s original dramatic poem written in 1867. This version premiered in 1876 but is more commonly listened to now as the two Suites that Grieg later composed of the play’s incidental music. . It’s a wonderfully warm and joyous piece of romantic nationalism and could be viewed as part of the cultural thread running through Europe (in particular) from roughly the 1830s to pre-WWI born from the desire to identify and fix firm roots for a national identity and an epic national origin story. You can hear this in Verdi’s patriotic operas, Wagner’s search for Teutonic lineage, the rediscovery of the Anglo-Saxon epic poem Beowulf, Vaughan-Williams celebration of traditional English folk tunes, and the compositions of Smetana, Sibelius and others...” . 🎉Sunday Update!! 🎉 My Mac is FINALLY back!!! 😁😁😁 I got it back on Friday, so Saturday (yesterday) pretty much went to mixing and mastering back all the tracks I'd finished earlier but lost when the hard drive stopped working. Or actually not just that. I also finished up a lot of songs I've been making with my iPad while being without my computer, and it seems I may have something in store for you really soon 🙊 * Apart from finishing up a lot of tracks (and thereby being close to finishing "Uncoollaughlaugh"!!!! 😱🙊), have I been playing my songs a lot on ukulele lately. I might be starting some acoustic intimate concerts this Fall, and so I need the rehearsal (especially the lyrics, where I keep forgetting a lot of my own verses 🙈). I was also out in the woods for two nights this week 🏕 and I played some of my songs on the ukulele we brought along outside (as well as some covers, such as "Best Song Ever" by One Direction and "Riptide" by Vance Joy). So that was fun 😁 * OH!
