How do you think our babies (Denmark, Norway and Sweden) looked during Kalmar times? I always imagine Denmark growing up a bit during it because it's kind of a pinnacle of power for him!

I already showed what Sweden would have looked like, but sure! I think your image of Den makes a lot of sense.

In my personal headcanons, I think Norway was practically bedridden at the beginning of the union since the plague hit him especially hard. Due to his poor health, he depended on other people to do even the most basic tasks, which must have driven him insane. His poor health, being stuck indoors (leading to a lack of contacts and opportunities) and basically the absence of freedom sealed his fate for the next centuries going forward. Maybe the few times he genuinely rebelled and ran away were especially dangerous due to his condition, but he must have had so much built-up frustration about many things at the time.

Sweden came and went as he pleased, running away a lot when he got frustrated or upset. Sweden's unwillingness to cooperate drove Denmark nuts, so they argued a lot. I feel like Den had genuinely good intentions, trying to make this union they were forced into work. But he was also more experienced than the rest of his family, having multiple alliances to take care of, so he ended up taking the leadership role in most situations. So I don't think Denmark getting upset about Norway and Sweden running around with growing pains and failing to see the bigger picture is completely unjustifiable...

There's just too much to get into, so this is briefly a general picture of how I see the union. They were all physically young, and thus immature and stupid, so it's not surprising at all that the union didn't really work out at any point.

Being Married To Ivar Would Include...

-Ivar being really protective over you in every single way possible. He would fight anyone who tries to mess with you or try and take you away from him.

-Him wanting to make sure that you are safe no matter what and always has someone go with you in the village does not matter if it is him or some other warrior going with you.

-During feasts he always has you sit with him. He does not want you to feel alone or have to sit with another man. So, he just wants you to sit with him.

-When you both are in bed, he loves to cuddle with you and be with you all throughout the night. Sometimes, he lets you cuddle him from behind but his most favorite is when he is laying down on his back and then you just lay your head on his chest.

-You both always having fun no matter what is going on. Everyone always notices that you both are always smiling around each other and making each other laugh at any time possible.

-Him always being super gentle with you. He is always gentle touching you. He always makes sure that when he hugs you or even when you both cuddle that he is being gentle and soft with you.

-His brothers have had a small crush on you at some point but have let it go because they had realized that you were staying with Ivar for a long time.

-His brothers liking you and thinking that you are a good fit for him and could handle all of his crazy tendencies.

-Ragnar and Aslaug liking you as well and treating you as if you are their own family and talking to you as such as well.

How do Hong Kong and Iceland handle fame as teenage nations? I imagine Iceland isn't happy but Hong Kong would thrive in the spotlight

Iceland isn't too big on being a public figure. Luckily, he's not as high profile as some other nations are. He has a lot of privacy at home, and people just treat him like any other citizen. He doesn't get paparazzi unless he's in a foreign nation. Even when he does the occasional interview, he's still a bit closed off. He could go to public school, but he's chosen to be homeschooled because he finds it easier.

On social media, It's typical angsty teen stuff. He definitely uses tumblr a lot. He has an account for his normal interests and an account for shitposting. On instagram, he usually posts pictures of his natural landscapes and Mr. Puffin. The other nordics (especially Norway) like all of posts and comment embarrassing supportive messages within five minutes.

Hong Kong has a lot of fun with his fame. He puts on a face of "oh I'm a studious and well-mannered kid" on tv and stuff, but literally everyone knows how much of a little shit he is. I also think he's a teenage heart-throb. He's used to paparazzi, and he usually has other people handle his stalkers.

He is definitely chronically online. He posts a lot of memes and makes reels of him in class and follows popular trends. He also posts him teaching China about stupid brainrot memes. It's like the opposite of Iceland where Hong Kong is the one messing with China. He also likes taking pictures of people in 0.5.

Denmark

The clown of the group

Has trouble focusing/paying attention

Will use other Nordics in group study session with the goal of body doubling to keep each other in check and focused, but often devolves to laughing and banter instead

Offers good moral support and asks a lot of questions in class, has great participation marks, but can go off topic

Rallies people to meet when need to discuss group projects, again he is great moral support

When writing he either cannot write anything or speed types and hyperfocuses, no in-between

Appears self-confident and social but can actually struggle with self esteem and seeming like he's incompetent or "too much" for people, tries to compensate by being extra likeable and useful

Bonds with people over humor, socializing and making friends are more important than grades to him

Only chooses classes that interest him, does surprisingly well as a result

The most likely of the Nordics to be late for class

Goes to a lot of college parties

Sweden

The mom of the group, always checking in on people and making sure everyone feels included

Reformed high school bully, but still gossips with Norway about classmates and faculty

Has very high standards for himself and his work, will force people in his group projects to do at least 2 rounds of editing

Can really get in the zone and hyperfocuses when studying, but to do that he needs his noise cancelling headphones, his stim toy, perfect room temperature, comfy study clothes, and his daily ritual to actually start

Refuses to pull all-nighters to finish assignments, sleep is more important to him (king)

Is professional with group projects, is calm and good with delegating work

At the same time, he is very opinionated and loves to debate people in and out of class. Often argues with specific students

Easily overwhelmed from noises, activities, and group projects, needs to find quiet places to hide

Gets good grades, professors either love him or forget he exists

Perfectionist and an over-achiever, bases a lot of his self-worth on grades. Will get upset if he gets anything below an A-

Can feel like he's in a competition with classmates for good grades and approval from professors, will ask a lot of questions and tries to start discussions in class

Will talk to the professor right after the end of the 1st class to introduce himself and establish dominance

Tries to humble brag about school and his work ethic by telling classmates how often he crams and pulls all-nighters

Very anxious about grades, always does well (at the cost of his mental health)

Mostly sustains himself on energy drinks and coffee

Doesn't like group projects because he thinks no one else cares about doing well as much as he does

This isn't helped by the fact that he has trust issues and thinks others will let him down

Frequents the counseling center and medical clinic on campus. The former because of stress and trauma which worsens school stress, the latter because of medical issues as a result of said stress

Professors either love him or hate him

Despite how he acts in class he's actually a people-pleaser, but his over-achieving nature can be hard to deal with

Goes to the campus gym at least once a week to lift weights, probably part of the school hockey club

Iceland

The freshman, trying to figure things out

Thinks that because he did well in high school he'll have an easy time in university (he won't and will be humbled)

Overanalyzes group projects and panics. Double/triple checks his work before sending in his contributions because he wants to seem competent in their eyes

Usually reserved but once he opens up will say the most out of pocket things, sometimes it slips in his quiet phase

Surprisingly, is among the worst of the Nordics in terms of grades. This is mainly because he is unconfident in his own work and views, so he often ends up self-sabotaging his work or doing the bare minimum

His friends are his main priority in school, not grades

Like Fin, is a people-pleaser. Unlike Fin, he is easy to get along with

Their relationship during the viking age was mostly very amicable, apart from a few minor fights and arguments later on. In contrast to England and Denmark, Norway and Scotland mostly co-existed peacefully beside each other and even developed a friendship. Norway has always been a traveller and would rarely stay in one place for long, but he would often spend his summers and occaionally autumns in his territories close to Scotland before moving along on his next adventure. During these months Norway and Scotland would hang out and Norway would tell Scotland stories about all his adventures out on the sea, exploring westward, as a hired soldier for the Byzantine emperor, helping out Denmark with his wars agaisnt England, and joining Sweden on his trips east. Scotland would think these were the coolest stories and always look forward to Norway's occasional visits. And sometimes Norway would even bring him exotic gifts he'd picked up on his travels.

Heyy! Please, go ahead, I'm glad to hear my art makes you happy. And sure, I can share some ideas I have about Norway during that time! But I didn't know what to draw for this prompt, will you forgive me?

A little history lesson is probably in place. Norway was a mighty kingdom during the Middle Ages; having overseas territories and the mainland extending all the way to the Kola Peninsula and parts of modern-day Sweden. But by the 14th century, the Scandinavian royal families were extremely intermingled. After the Fairhair dynasty's male lineage died out in 1319, the throne of Norway passed to Magnus VII, who in the same year became elected as king of Sweden as well, merging the two kingdoms into a personal union briefly - until Magnus' sons inherited their separate kingdoms. Magnus' younger son, Haakon VI, inherited Norway as his realm and ended up marrying the Danish princess Margaret, who'd eventually unite all the Scandinavian kingdoms under one crown and form the Kalmar Union in 1397.

However, earlier in 1349, the Black Death arrived in Norway through trading ports and hit the country devastatingly, killing over 60% of the population. Notably, the plague hit all classes of society, even the nobility and clergy. As a result, many powerful Norwegian noble families died out, straining Norway's position among the European powers. But perhaps more devastatingly to the nobles, farmsteads, if not entire villages, around the kingdom died out as a result of the plague, weakening rent and tax revenue. All of this left the Norwegian monarchy weakened in terms of manpower, noble support, defense, and economic power.

Though Norwegians rebelled a few times against the Danish-favored policies during the Kalmar Union, the Norwegian population and the Council of State were still too weak to secede from it. Sweden left the union in 1521, but the Norwegians couldn't do the same, due to their military inferiority to Denmark at the time. During the reformation battles, King Christian III orchestrated an invasion of Norway in 1537 and incorporated the country as a puppet kingdom under Denmark.

"The diminished Norwegian nobility was not able to protect the political rights of Norway in the Kalmar Union and the military power was lost to Denmark who used mercenaries from Germany; the Norwegian merchant class lost their power of the Norwegian economy to the German merchants of the Hanseatic League who established themselves in Bergen; and the dead Norwegian officials were replaced by German and Danish officials appointed to administer Norway for Denmark; all of which has been described as the decline of Norway under the Danish dominance of the Kalmar Union." And on that note...

I think all of this historical context about the country could be reflected in Sigurd's (Norway) character. His horrible health condition could explain his role shifting in the family, which left him in Magnus' (Denmark) and Björn's (Sweden) shadow for centuries to come.

Due to his poor health, Sigurd could not attend meetings, which led to decisions being made without his presence. Also due to his health, many of his former roles and responsibilities were given to other people, cutting his purpose in the union. He also couldn't work a job to sustain himself, so he had to rely on other people to keep him afloat, which only worsened his situation and made him financially dependent on others. All of a sudden his attendance or opinion didn't matter because his opinion could be outvoted by others in (and out) of the union. He was probably also unaware of agreements and plans that were not formally discussed, giving him reason to believe he was lied to or purposely kept in the dark about things that also concerned him.

While Magnus had found his place among other Nations, maintaining relations and seemingly enjoying his position, Sigurd couldn't do the same. Being bedridden and weak made maintaining friendships beyond the household practically impossible. Crashing down from his peak, and not being able to meet the expectations he once was meeting, would certainly affect Sigurd's mindset and self-image negatively. He was embarrassed and hid, sheltering himself basically. While Sigurd and Björn had grievances certainly even back then, I feel like they could still relate to one another, if not through their circumstances then through perspectives, which made them extremely close. They both had a harder time adapting to change, at least when compared to Magnus.

Being Bjorn's Woman Would Include

-Being his woman would include a lot of things. It can also be overwhelming sometimes being with him.

-One of the things that is included being in a relationship with him is that he is so protective of you. Even in ways you would never imagine. Every time that you go with him to travel, he is watching you at all times and always makes you walk with him locking arms

-He is the type of man that loves to cuddle. So, every night when you both get into bed, he just holds on to you and almost makes you stay there.

-He loves spoiling you. Like a lot. whenever he goes out to travel or fight, he always makes sure to pick you up something. whether it is a dress or jewelry. Or even something to cook with if he passes it in the markets.

-He is such a gentle man with you. He would hate if you had gotten hurt because of him. That is one of his nightmares. He hates the thought of you in general in his watch getting hurt

-He also makes sure that you are never cold in the winter. He does not want you getting sick. So, he gives you one of his furs to make sure you do not get cold so easily.

The Olympic chocolate muffin saga is the best part about the Olympics. I think the funniest thing is the videos of the other athletes being like "no muffins left the Norwegian swimmer ate them all." Now I can't stop thinking about Norway hogging all the muffins from the Nordics. The moment he gets his hands on any chocolate dessert, there's no going back, and they will have to stage an intervention to stop his outrageous muffin consumption.
