I know that Alastor was a bad guy, and he's a terrible person for doing what he did, but I agree with this. Yall have to remember Husk was the SAME as Alastor, it's not like he went up to people and asked for their souls pretty please with a cherry on top. He gambled. And when he did, he cheated. (I am STRONGLY confident that that has been confirmed by Viv) Husk made the mistake of getting too confident, too drawn in the idea of owning the RADIO DEMON, that he lost all his chips before he could snap out of it.

Maybe it's a Kakeguri thing where Alastor called Husk out and made him play fair and square, meaning Alastor just HAPPENED to get lucky. But I don't doubt that Alastor probably cheated, too.

They're both terrible people. They both cheat, lie, and scam people for life. Alastor’s just better at it. And Husk was too caught up in his glory to realise that.

Think about it realistically; If it was swapped, and Husk had power and control over a measly little deer who strayed too far from his post, Husk would have done the same. Anyone would have done the same. Or at least, I would have.

If Husk got his overlord status, I'm willing to bet my soul (haha wait what) that he'd go back to being how he is, maybe even a little bit more cruel. Husk may have softened due to Angel, or for whatever other character development reason, but I can assure you, he'll relapse if given the chance.

I understand that seeing a MC that you love being hurt like that can urk people, but it's not a valid reason to "baby" them, so to speak. They're not good people. None of them. Perhaps the best out of all of them is Charlie, and she was raised by an (albeit fallen) angel.

On a side note

I really loved their dynamic in the pilot-- Husk is sick and tired of Alastor’s "adventures" but is forced to follow along anyways. It's beautiful. Honestly, I would have LOVED it if Husk’s soul wasn't owned, but he's still there cus he secretly cares just a lil bit about the other two. Maybe that’s the found family in my speaking. But alas, I understand the need for misery and angst in this world 💔

A Linked Universe meets The Dark Crystal AU! I don't even remember what started it at this point. I remembered that the Dark Crystal and Age of Resistance are things I like, blinked, and woke up three days later with an AU and a bunch of art.

I have a good reason, bear with me here.

Javert jumped off that bridge because he realized he was wrong. Only at that last moment, Valjean showed him with irrefutable evidence that people can change. That criminals can become good people (good being a vague word, but you know what i mean). As a policeman, no, the law itself, how can he ever live with the fact that his rules, his morals are wrong? He comitted his whole life to this, only to realize it was all for naught. And if that sinks in.. That means he might have done wrong in the past aswell. He isn't rightous at all, he was probably wrong a lot of times. And after 52 years of life, of seeing the world only in black and white, seeing himself as a rightious agent of order, he is wrong. And he jumps of a bridge, because it's impossible for him to deal with that.

And isn't that poetic?

The law commits suicide in the face of change.

It has to.

And isn't that ultimately what Victor Hugo is describing?

Laws are inherently flawed because they do not hold up at change.

It's impossible to make something objectively inflexible apply to all situations.

They are our best attempt at ethics and fair rules in society, but they CAN be wrong. They do not hold into account the evolution of humanity, the changing of time and culture. They do not hold people into account and the way they can change. With our biggest example Valjean of course.

In how I view the book, this is what Victor Hugo is trying to tell the reader. The law doesn't hold up in the face of change. The law doesn't hold up in the face of humanity.

I think whatever else you take away from this is something you can decide for yourself, since i'm not fully sure either.

But for the narrative: Javert always had to die. Because he is the law.

although i am wringing my hands in embarassment because the topic of broken's characterization is something i'm very passionate about, but i've complained about it before, and i don't want to come across as too whiny. i don't believe any one person should be seen as an authority on a character's portrayal, and i don't want to cause anyone undue stress. he's a video game character, it's not that serious.

that being said ⸻ broken is a very angry and bitter voice and i wish that was acknowledged more often!!!

even outside of the tower's pet line, the voice of the broken reminds me of an abused dog. a dog will fight you, naturally, but you are stronger, and if it is wise, it will realize resistance is pointless. you can harm a dog as much as you'd like until it learns to do whatever it takes to satisfy and stay your hand. only then will you reward it, and only then will the dog merely flinch between caresses.

but submission isn't love, and a dog still has it's teeth.

as a hardcore simp, i've read as many broken opinions and writing i can get my paws on, and i've noticed a tendency to depict him as someone who holds no animosity unless directly influenced by tower. in their eyes, he pathetically loathes himself and believes that the other voices are superior in every way.

i disagree with this because, to put it bluntly, broken literally hates everyone. canonically! he may be a sad little shelterdog deserving of many head pats but he's not soft with anyone. his sadness shouldn't distract from the fact he firmly believes the other voices are delusional in a hopeless situation. broken never shows admiration for anyone other than the princess, but he's obviously not always thrilled with her either.

i think the best demonstration of this is how people approach broken's regret over his actions during the tower route. he's usually portrayed as overly regretful and melancholy for stabbing the long quiet, which makes sense, but i'd like to remind everyone that we have his canonical reaction, and he doesn't care lmao.

(literally my favorite broken line i must shamefully confess he sounds soooo hot here.)

which makes sense! broken is sorrowful, yes, but his more violent actions and words are motivated by an innocent desire to be safe. when he remains silent after being insulted or avoids conflict, it's not because he's afraid of the others, but because he believes it is safest for him to accept the hurt now rather than being inflicted with additional harm later. he's not going to apologize for attempting to save everyone when their futile efforts have now locked them into a cycle of being slain over and over by the princess's hands. like, literally the one thing he wanted to avoid.

it's also why his relationship with tower makes me want to gnash my teeth against the bars of my enclosure. they aren't good for eachother but they're so beautifully entwined and and their dynamic is so...?

broken's soulmate isn't physically incapable of hurting him like damsel, but she isn't determined to hurt him like razor or nightmare. for the price of his everything belong to her, she's able to save him, melting his anger into adoration, and he's even willing to hurt himself endlessly for her. i'm gonna 'hrow up.
