Summary: "The one who protects from the shadows, that’s the mark of a true shinobi.”
ANBU were entrenched in the darkest recesses of Shinobi life. They had no faces, no names, no desires but the completion of their mission and the preservation of their village.
Squad Two was as devoted as any unit, perhaps even more so than most.
…And yet-
They changed everything.
Series: HOPE AU: I hope you'll reach those places
Chapter One: ENDINGS AND BEGINNINGS
Summary: Academy students took exams to graduate to Genin. They took exams, pitched against their fellows and foreign-nin alike, to earn a Chuunin vest. They called.
And you answered.

So Kiss Me, as I Am Lost
My take on "CPR" for @febuwhump. It's an emotional ride with plenty of hurt (and comfort). Thanks so much for reading. 🫶
Pairing: Shisui/Sakura
Rating: M
Summary:
The untenable stress of trying to open the Therapy Center while interning for the Medic Corps. The countless weekends Sakura had to cancel their plans to work on call. Shisui had always been there to encourage her and lift her up with his love. Now, Sakura felt she no longer deserved it. For Febuwhump 2024, Day 5: CPR

I love this fic!
Young Sasuke Uchiha becomes a social justice warrior, this somehow leading to: his clan not being massacred and succeeding in their coup, the Hyuga branch family being freed and having their own coup, and Naruto gaining a supportive best friend and parental figure.

Hey! Its very random I kno but had a question. What do u think of AUS with no Uchiha Masacre? Sorry if u dont read them
I do read them, but not often 🙈 I'm an idiot who is picky when it comes to fics in general. I'm even pickier with No Massacre ones.
I do like them. I need to catch up with a few I'm reading. But I very much avoid fics where there's no Uchiha Massacre, and Sasuke STILL goes to Oro. Like, I don't think Sasuke would go there. I can see Oro kidnapping Sasuke or manipulating him.
But, as I was browsing the Fugaku & Sasuke tag (platonic) on AO3, I saw a fic where Sasuke just went there. No hate to the author, but I doubt Sasuke would just go with Oro in this kind of AU.
I do think Sasuke could end up with Oro, but you'd have to push him to his limits.
But ignoring Oro, I do like these AUs in the sense that one can explore Sasuke’s relationship with his family better. You can see how he's different from Itachi. What the clan thinks of him. What his parents think of him and what he thinks of them.
Non Massacre AUs are nice for politics and world building, too.

A Legacy could be a blessing or a curse when it came to the Uchiha.
The Uchiha greatly devoted themselves to love and friendship, however their affectionate traits are often be concealed to protect themselves from a curse that has been bestowed upon them since the times of the Sage of Six Paths. When the love an Uchiha holds for another is lost it can instantaneously turn into hatred, influencing them to do anything and everything in their power to achieve their goals, regardless of the consequences their actions.
The Uchiha try preventing the inevitable from happening, protecting their own from being lost in their Clans Cursed Legacy, but history tends to repeat itself. It also started with Indra Otsutsuki and will end with Sasuke Uchiha.
Konoha was not typically a cold place.  The weather almost always bright and warm, however the cool autumn breeze sent chills down his spine.  It was a peaceful October evening, but Itachi could not help but sense an ominous stench in the air.  Something had shifted in the atmosphere.
The young Uchiha heir looked up at the moon, as it cast a silver glow on his face.   The cool breeze tussled his long black hair, as he gazed at the endless sky at the cascade of twinkling lights.  His stargazing was shattered from a movement in his arms, Itachi’s little brother, Sasuke started to fuss.  Sasuke rarely fussed when Itachi held him. His brother always seemed to be at ease around him. He wondered if his chakra signature brought him warmth and comfort. Others were not so lucky when it came to Sasuke, he would throw a tantrum when another clan member besides his immediate family or Shishu held him.
“There, there Sasuke, don’t cry.”
Itachi tried to console Sasuke but was finding it difficult.  He would not stop crying.
Did Sasuke sense this ominous feeling.
“No matter what happens Sasuke, your big brother will definitely protect you…”
Sasuke continued to wale. His parents were currently attending a clan meeting and he knew it would not be wise to disturb them unless it was dire. Itachi rose from the engawa, headed inside, the ominous feeling he sensed earlier did not falter. He could not shake it off.  A sudden roar broke the silence of the once quiet evening.
Itachi exited his home in the center of the Uchiha Compound. His onyx eyes widened.  He saw nothing but destruction. The voices and panic of his clansmen in the streets of the clans’ compound, debris and bodies were flying everywhere. He wondered what could cause such destruction and carnage.  It has not even been a year since the third shinobi war has ended.  The Five Great Shinobi Nations would not dare to start a war so soon. Not when they were trying to recover from the last.  It was something else.  Something sinister that caused the ominous feeling Itachi had felt earlier.
Whats going on?
Just run, you idiot!
The demon fox is loose.
Itachi hurried through the streets of the Uchiha compound, in search of his parents or a high-ranking member of the Konoha Military Police Force. They would know what to do.  Itachi knew something terrible must have happened if the Nine-Tails escaped its host.  Something must have happened to the Hokage's wife.  Itachi knew he was not supposed to know, but it was not difficult to figure out, that the Hokage's wife, Kushina was the host, the jinchuriki of Konoha. He has heard whispers through the village. Itachi knew it was why the woman was not well-liked by some.  People saw her as a ticking time bomb.  It did not help that Kushina had a fiery personality, but people knew it was not wise to speak ill of the Hokage's wife. Minato was a kind person, but the village elders would not allow the villagers to speak ill of the village weapon.  People would be punished.
He wondered if his mother knew what has happened.  Itachi has met Kushina a few times when he was on outings with his mother to visit their father at the Konoha Police Headquarters to bring him a bento. They were best friends and Kushina wanted her son to be friends with Sasuke when he was born.  He knew that might never happened; people were going to die tonight. He knew Kushina was going to be one of the many dead.  Itachi knew his family was going to be blamed.  Some in the clan can control the Nine-Tails. Itachi knew of an animosity towards the Uchiha.  A fraction of the village who followed Danzo’s philosophy wanted to rid the Uchiha Clan.  Itachi has not had to change to ask his father about Danzo’s hostility towards them, but he hopes to find out soon.
Sasuke cries grew louder and louder as each moment past.  Itachi could sense he was terrified, his chakra radiated fear.  He looked down at his brother, trying to console him.  He tried to ease his fear but continued to fail.
“Sasuke, it’s okay. You just got a little scared, huh?”
Itachi continued to run through the streets, dodging debris from buildings with ease.  He needed to either find his parents or make his way to the shelter behind the Hokage monument.
Mom! Dad!
Itachi recognizes that voice.  It was a girl in his academy class, a girl who was an Uchiha, but lived outside of the district due to some clan elders not being fond of her mother marrying someone who was not worthy of the clan.  Her father was a civilian born ninja with no linage, no special skill. It was a shame that some on his clan were not always kind, Itachi hoped such distain for those who did not meet the clan standards would change in the future. The Uchiha were too prideful at times, but he would have thought the clan would embrace love its members have. However, the love the Uchiha have could be a blessing or a curse. Their curse has followed them throughout history.  It has been around since the creations of the ninja world, from the time of the Sage of Six Paths.  It was a never-ending cycle in their clan’s dark history.
Itachi’s attention returned to Izumi.  She was still of his clan, but a very distant cousin.  The Uchiha were protective of their kin. It should not matter who her mother married.  Once things calmed down, he was going to speak to his father about this matter. Things needed to change for them to evolve. Having such high standards when marrying outside of the clan is going to do more harm than good. The Uchiha married for love, and nothing should come between that love. It should not matter how strong or powerful their loved one is.
“Itachi-kun”
“Hurry!”
Itachi held out his hand, hoping she would take it. He pulled her close just as the building next to them exploded. Itachi hurried through the streets of the civilian district of Konoha. He knew they needed to be evacuated to the shelter inside of the Hokage monument.
“We’re going to the shelter.”
Itachi kept his arm firmly grip around Izumi's shoulder. He felt her shaking under his grasp.  That is when he spotted him. His father and other members of the police force directing civilians to safety.
“Keep going.”
“Itachi-kun”
“Everyone will be there. I will join you soon Izumi, go, where it is safe.”
Itachi made his way over to his father. He needed to let him know that they were okay.  That no harm came to him and Sasuke.
“Father!”
“I knew you would be alright.” Fugaku placed a hand on Itachi’s shoulder and looked down at Sasuke's tear-stained face.   “I want you to go where it is safe.  We will come find you when the emergency order has been lifted.”
“Yes, father.” Itachi followed an older member of the police force towards the shelter.  He looked back at his father once more and hope things would be alright.
“Just about everyone has been evacuated, sir.”
"What are our orders?"
“The police force will break up into teams. Half will remain and protect civilians while the other half will assist me in helping the Hokage with the Nine-tails.” Fugaku knew he was going against village orders, but he had to do something.  He could not just sit there and let the village his family help founded be destroy.
“Yes Sir!”
Fugaku watched his clansmen disperse. He looked out at the destroyed village and knew things were going to change for the Uchiha.  He knew they would need to tread lightly.  Fugaku sighed deeply and flash stepped, making his way towards where he last felt Minato and Kushina’s chakra, it was fading, fading fast.  He knew then it was not going to make it in time, to save his friend.

I'm thinking about writing a fic where instead of committing the Uchiha Massacre, Itachi just grabs Sasuke and Naruto and leaves Konoha so that neither of them can be used by his clan or the village in the ensuing conflict (thus thwarting any plans of using the NineTailed Fox in the revolution).
He goes to Neko-baa-chan (Granny Cat) and asks her for advice on where he can raise two kids on the down low for a while and evade detection by the hidden villages. Granny Cat suggests that they could disguise themselves as cats and live with the neko-nin for a while, but Itachi is worried about information getting around in the neko-nin rumor mill about them, and the possiblity of that information getting around to shinobi who work with them, such as those in his clan. So Granny Cat is like "well there's this one feral cat colony in the woods that rarely has any contact with shinobi. You could probably join them."
Itachi thanks her for the advice and for welcoming him and the kids on such short notice, and Granny Cat remarks that it's ironic for him to say such a thing since he's still just a kid himself. She also gives them the special cat ears that allow them to blend in.
Unlike in the anime, this version of the cat ears actually have fuuinjutsu seals that, when activated, cause the wearer to physically transform into a cat similar to the way members of the Inuzuka clan can use a transformation jutsu to turn into their Nin-ken companions. It can only be de-activated and removed by the wearer themselves, so there's no danger of them being knocked off or anything by accident.
The three of them spend the night in Sora-ku and then leave to go join the cat colony the next day. The feral neko-nin accept them into their group and they begin their new lives in the woods together.
If you think this is a cute little fix it fic where everything is fluffy and adorable then I'm sorry to disappoint you because this is actually a Warrior Cats crossover and despite being rated for kids like 7 and up that series has moments that are as brutal as Naruto sometimes.
I'm not exaggerating. There's a scene where this one antagonist is like "Yeah I murdered those children and framed their adult sister to get her exiled from our clan because she kept questioning my authority. What of it?" And you can just hear their mother start wailing in the background.
So yeah, Itachi basically goes into this thinking that Naruto and Sasuke will be safer in the woods living among the cats, and tries to join ThunderClan, but then almost immediately realizes that these cats are just as violent and there are just as many covert power struggles going on here as there were in Konoha, but it's too late to back out now and at least this place has code of honor with rules forbidding the use of child soldiers, unlike the hidden villages. It doesn't stop kittens from dropping like flies due to predators like hawks and foxes or stop them from dying of disease or starvation but hey, it's something.
I know that this entire concept probably comes off as being cringy as hell even to people who are interested in both Naruto and Warriors but it is something that I enjoy writing and anyone is free to either enjoy it or not depending on whether it's their cup of tea.

[Image Description: a digital drawing depicting an Alternate Multiverse which is a Canon Divergence from 'Naruto' (1999) manga series & novel series. All 8 humans' skin is somewhere between peachy and pale.
Uchiha Fugaku is standing near the left edge of the drawing. He has chin-length hair with a shorter fringe and holds in his right hand a medium brown suitcase. Fugaku is wearing a forest green dinner suit, as if he's about to go work in an office.
Near him is Uchiha Shisui who is sitting next to Uchiha Itachi at a dining table made from very light wood. Their backs are to the Viewer. Shisui has short-cropped hair that's spiky with slight curls whereas Itachi has his straight hair tied down into a ponytail that reaches his covered shoulder-blades.
Opposite of Itachi sits Uchiha Sasuke, who has turned his upper body so he can look at Haruno Sakura while blushing. Sakura stands a few feet behind Sasuke, her left hand holding a framed photograph she's looking at. Her straight, light pink hair reaches past her shoulders. Sakura is near the right edge of the drawing.
Next to Sasuke sits golden blonde Uzumaki Naruto, whose eyes are closed in irritation (presumably at something Shisui said). Next to Naruto stands Uchiha Mikoto, who has straight hair which contrasts with Naruto's short-cropped spikes.
Next to Mikoto stands brunette Uchiha Izumi, who is holding a conversation with the older Uchiha. Izumi has shoulder-length straight hair. Except for Izumi, all of the Uchiha in this drawing are ravenettes.]

kinda funny how fugaku calls itachi a kind child, and then 5 minutes later, itachi tortures his 7 year old brother.
fugaku: itachi, you truly are a kind child. take care of sasuke...
itachi: don't worry father, i will.
also itachi: tortures sasuke twice, manipulates and abandons him, and literally ruins his life.
fugaku, mikoto, and the entire uchiha clan:

Jokes aside the idea of Shisui smartly winning a place as Fugaku's right-hand man and using Mangekyō fuckery against ROOT is so cool? Also Fugaku doesn't strike me as someone who would be a super bad Hokage- would he be the best? No. But would he be the worst? I don't think so, especially with Shisui at his side
And who knows?
Maybe with time things will get better and Konoha will accept Fugaku as their new Hokage. I know I would 🤭
- Koto-anon
It depends on how you judge success/badness/goodness specifically towards leadership in Narutoverse!
Disclaimer! This is all my opinion! I don't want to be lectured! I'll keep deleting bullshit!
I'm gonna try really hard not to start spiraling into historical analysis of power structures and perspective bias etc etc but knowing me that's what's going to happen anyway so let's just get into it 🤣
So, fandom usually looks at Hokage candidates by their raw strength which makes sense, considering all the talk of "Strongest in the Village" and looking at who we have in Canon:
Hashirama was the God of Shinobi
Tobirama was a genius with Jutsu and assumed to be a good policy maker too
Sarutobi was 'the professor' and was pretty spry against Orochimaru even as an old man
Minato was a genius sealing master and the 'fastest man alive'
Tsunade could crush mountains and perform healing miracles
Kakashi is a (you guessed it) genius and the man of a thousand Jutsu
Naruto is literally the Jinchuuriki Favourite Child of "God-God" Sage
But, honestly, discounting Tobirama... Who here is actually fit to be a leader and not just...a glorified general?
We need to understand what the Hokage actually does. Jokes about paperwork aside, how does the mantel of Kage fit within the broader sociopolitical framework, what role do their advisors and council play into the system?
So let's make some assumptions.
From examples across time and space, we know that Generals can be just as much in power as a civilian politician or the biological heir to a dynasty. I'd recommend looking at the Hokage as a hodge-podge of these:
The Hokage are all connected to each other. Hashirama-(brother)->Tobirama-(student)->sarutobi -(student's student)->Minato-(sensei's teammates/saru's other student)->Tsunade-(predecessor's student)->Kakashi-(student, sensei's son)-> Naruto
They're military leaders and the power structure of the villages are based on this Shinobi prowess
They are also in control of their civilian population (if there is a civilian council, I doubt they report to anyone but the Hokage) and they mediate with Daimyo etc.
Hashirama was the Senju Clan Head, a mantel that maybe passed to Tobirama but more likely passed to Hashirama's mysterious children.
Tobirama was, at the very least, his brother's closest advisor. That's some political practice, right there.
Sarutobi, we assume but then...maybe not!, was the pretty important to the Sarutobi. And there seems to be a fair few of them looking at that one panel of them all breathing smoke and shit (assuming that they're not just a huge pack of brothers but most are part of their own family unit)
Tumblr media
I don't think Asuma has a dozen brothers. Maybe he does but, frankly, I'd be disappointed if they all didn't have daddy issues with the Sandaime as well.
I'm going off tangent🙃
MY POINT is that Sarutobi possibly had some experience with bureaucracy before becoming Sandaime. Maybe Tobirama punished them all with paper pushing, idk
Minato.... I don't know what to tell you but I'm tempted just to...skip... him because frankly his term of office was so short he probably hadn't even redecorated or got the smell of smoke out of the furniture yet! Regardless, being smart with seals doesn't mean he's a good judge of politics, economics, or social welfare! He gets brownie points for being a thinker, tho
(Does Konoha function as a welfare state? Surely with the injuries on a regular basis, as well as the crazy working schedules and the turn over of retiree veterans, they've got to have some impressive infrastructure- No, don't get me started-)
Tsunade. Right, listen, she's a doctor yeah but this woman really had no clan left to learn leadership for and she's been wandering the continent for a decade in a drunken stupor. I love her but there's a reason she's smashing desks and it's because she's been confronted with problems she can't pummel or resuscitate. Tsunade didn't get a medical degree (did she????) just to have to study MORE bullshit. She's frankly wasted here but better her than some of those fuck-wits.
Kakashi. 🥹 Leading the Hatake? No. ANBU? Does Captaincy really count as anything but even more field experience. Result: Why (i love you but SEND THE MAN TO THERAPY AND GO TO THE SPA)
Naruto. Well... They wouldn't let him jump from Genin to the Hokage. Is this because they know he's so uneducated and needs to go back to school or is this purely because you HAVE to climb the pecking order in order to hit the top. Both? Both is good
So there's just... A lot here. And I can speculate to fucking hell and back but there's very little actually elaborated on in Canon. What do they even do in the Hokage Tower? Is it just all mission paperwork or does Konoha function more like... Idk a principality? What is the involvement of the Daimyo?
This is where fanfiction reaaally takes the reigns and I love that for them ✨😤
So what would make a "bad" Kage?
Danzo.
Danzo is a SHIT Kage and not just because I hate him. We're looking at someone who poisoned the previous - relatively successful - leadership, worked with foreign powers to manipulate other nations as well as his own village, orchestrated and then ordered the slaughter of thousands of Konohan citizens, kidnapping and experimentation, sabotaging political rivals (whether they considered themselves rivals is a different matter all together), bolstered social conflict and international tensions, bloodline theft and forming a private army who were indoctrinated and sealed to his will-!
Tumblr media
So if that's the "shit" end of the scale, where do the other Hokage line up?
Hashirama: congrats on building the village! However, it's really contested whether you actually met your new allies on equal standing and it's left a lot of social pressure that will explode down the line 🥺 you get points for spirit but the execution (whoops) might prove a bit wobbily
Tobirama: congrats on being the best of an....interesting bunch. You seem to have had a good head on your shoulders and, pre-founding antics aside, you've committed to the bit. Unfortunately, you have an evil student :/ oh, right, and those social issues? You're probably making them worse
Sarutobi: well. You sat there. Congrats on living so long, I guess. You taught a few loose canons big names, you signed your name on the top of the exam, you held onto peace for a good while by the skin of your teeth. Unfortunately any good you mightve done or process made has been massively underscored by allowed your live-in nuclear-weapon-child to be abused and reviled, your students have either fucked off or were chased out after performing atrocities against the population, your teammate tries to get the last student of your (brief) successor to kill you... Yeah. It's a lot. Oh, also your own son flipped you the bird for a decade to go live in the Capitol instead. Oh, yeah, and you must either live in a bubble of ignorance (ignoring that crystal ball you've got going on) or you're wilfully ignoring Danzo squirreling funds to his private army ;/ all in all? Not great signs of leadership control, you rotten motherfucker
Minato. Is it even fair to list him when he martyred himself before anything could happen? All i can say is... Yikes. Also congrats on dying so quickly that you were immortalised as the faultless golden hero of the village ☺️ all in all, Minato is just lucky to be here
Tsunade: um. She fucked off for decades, loudly proclaiming her disgust/revulsion of Konoha and how stupid anyone would have to be to become Hokage, and hasn't exactly been graceful or pleased since being strong armed into taking the job. I'm not saying I don't sympathise but at the same time... Not a good start. Idk about anyone else but if my (dictator?) leader loudly hated the job and the village and had also gone AWOL for years living it up whilst the village was kinda imploding... I would be pretty resentful. Girl Power can only fly you so high 😔✊
Kakashi: I'm sorry that they made you do this 🥹 you are smart and you've seen a lot of shit but... He might be long-suffering for his duty but, like with Tsunade, you've got to weigh up if they'd be better elsewhere. Kakashi is high on the list of Hokage we've got to work with, however. Well. If you ignore that he was hated for most of his life, first for his father and then for being a little brat, and then for being an "eye thief", and then for being a Friend Killer, and then for being a Pervert- well. His reputation abroad is much better but there's a reason most leaders have, at least loosely, a cult of personality (Narutoverse is bad for this, btw). He has similar problems to Tsunade but he wins out on loyalty.
Naruto. I'm not going here because it's Boruto territory and that's a hard pass.
So what makes a bad Hokage? The usual things, I'd imagine:
pathological power grabbing (war mongering isn't good for your own minions and it's not good for international friends)
ignoring the wants and needs of the wider population (revolutionaries 🤷)
Inconsistency (people watch their leaders extremely carefully and so do their enemies)
lack of attention (^^^)
lack of control (you're running a military dictatorship, commit to the bit)
too much control (Danzo, I'm looking at you)
selfishness (it always bites in the ass)
pure ignorance (Sarutobi, I'm looking at you)
a focus on the brute side of things instead of the subtler arts (Sarutobi isn't brute strength but, unfortunately, he's on the other end where appeasement is making things worse)
So, looking at this, what makes a good Hokage?
Someone who knows what they're doing? 🥴
Someone who wants to be there or at least has dedicated themselves to the roll in its entirety without going on a power trip or burning out in a short period? 💀
Dedication
sensitivity
an awareness of social pressure and tensions (literally read the room)
a firm hand to the law (you gotta keep the minions in line)
support for both the backbone of society (Shinobi and Clans) as well as attention to the majority and minority (civilians hold a lot of sway in the every day realities of Konoha, don't let the Jutsu fool you) and knowing when to invest so neglect doesn't bite you in the ass (or rip everything up by the roots - ROOT, lol)
You need intimidation/respect (they are mercenaries after all) abroad as well as devotion and reverence at home (good old propaganda to keep the masses contained)
looking at the various downfalls of previous Hokage, you gotta deal with threats close to you with scary efficiency.
Another disclaimer: this is a profile for a leader in Naruto. I don't want to hear shit about me promoting aggressive foreign policy or totalitarian ideology, omfg
So! Bearing all this in mind, and incorporating an awareness of canon context... Would Fugaku be a good or bad Hokage?
I think he'd be a very important and decisive one. Good? That's a little more nuanced. Let's get into it-
Fugaku has the "good" qualities:
He's Clan Head, so about as much experience as any of the others had, but then he's also Police Chief (ACAB, whoops) so we're dealing with someone with intimate knowledge of the letter of the law, navigating Konohan crime and punishment as well as legal bureaucracy, and he's already a direct authority within the village and - get this - with the civilians.
Fugaku didn't personally want the Coup but he's a leader listening to his clan and they're getting desperate (and, therefore, more explosive). He's managed to hold his own against all these influences around him. Should he have completely shut them down? Maybe, but then what if they tried to usurp him? The Uchiha Clan can't exactly afford to split into fractions
He's called Wicked Eye for a (mysterious Mangekyou) reason. The fact that his skills aren't discussed in canon only gives us even more leeway to make him a total BAMF. He could also, apparently, go head to head with Golden Boy Minato. Am I sensing a badass? I think I am
He's surrounded by trustworthy BAMFS. Hashirama had Mito and Tobirama (Madara too, not to incite commentary, lets stay focused). The others struggled with this: Tobirama's successor is a little bitch and Danzo was devil spawn, Sarutobi was trapped between Danzo and his wild-card/war criminal students, Minato's Kushina died with him and everyone else doesn't seem on the level, Kakashi's bestie is literally a major antagonist, Naruto is (BORUTO REDACTED). Fugaku, however, not only has a bamf Clan who seem pretty devoted to him as a leader (we don't see a lot of dissent) but he's got Itachi and Shisui right there. They had a problem with the Coup, not necessarily with Fugaku himself although I think (looking at their characters) interpersonal strife would be set aside in favour of the bigger picture. All in all, there's a reason why he was thought of as the 'father' of his Clan (but what if you have daddy issues 👀)
Does Fugaku also show signs of being a bad Hokage?
Well, the timing might prove deadly against him. A revolution when the wider population is so anti-Uchiha would tear Konoha in two. But... That's if you're thinking that a Coup would be... Well, what you'd imagine. But if it's performed by Uchiha, the masters of genjutsu and manipulation? Taking liberties with Fugaku's Wicked Eyes and possible OC Uchiha characters, who knows if it would be a seamless transition? (In a fic, maybe Shisui's use of Kotoamatsukami on Danzo and ROOT would be the tip of the iceberg on what happened in the Uchiha Revolution. The Sandaime deciding to united the fractions of Konoha with Fugaku as his successor....?)
Fugaku isn't power snatching and, if he was, it wouldn't be directly for himself like Danzo's is. Danzo might sugarcoat it as an ideological difference, a variation in his vision of Konoha compared to others, but it's really all about him. Fugaku feels... vindicated.
Fugaku wouldn't be unwilling, uncomfortable, under qualified, or underpowered.
Personality-wise? He'd be like Tobirama, who i think was the best previous Hokage. Would this turn Konoha into a police state? Wasn't it always that in some form, anyway?
Overall, I think Fugaku would be a good Hokage, if he was extremely careful and played his cards right (and, considering his dedication and shrewdness, there's no reason to think he wouldn't be)

I've been thinking about Sasuke's trauma a bit today to try and convey him better in my writing. And I had an epiphany of sorts that may help others too, not just for Sasuke but other characters aswell.
Every corpse has an insanely strong smell. Scientists think its a defense mechanism so other humans can recognise danger near by. Because the smell of rotting Is said to be unlike like any other scent. Under the main scent of regular rotting you'd get, is described to be this powerful, sickeningly sweet smell.
Every corpse will smell different depending on their genetic makeup. Some will have a fruity smell, some sugary, it's all pungent and absolutely vile.
The smell is stronger than anything you'll ever smell, it clings to your clothes, it goes through the walls and it doesn't leave easily.
Sasuke would routinely visit the Uchiha district, and sit right in front of where his parents were murdered. That smell must have been everywhere. When he walked through the district, his own home, his clothes and himself. It all would have radiated death.
Even after the district would have been wiped clean. The smell would still be there, and it would be overwhelming. When Sasuke finally stopped visiting his old home, the smell would have already seeped through his clothes, and been all around his new home.
He went to school during that time too. Do you think his classmates didn't notice that putrid smell? And do you think every single one of them knew what death smelled like- and would they have been respectful enough to leave him be?
And imagine, when he became a ninja, him having to face that scent again. Plus- would he ever have been able to forget it? A scent so strong you can taste it, it makes your eyes water. Not only the image of his brother slicing his parents up would have been on his nightmares, but that horrific scent would have infected his nostrils aswell.
Just something to think about.

Top 5 fucked up things that happend in Naruto?
This lived in my drafts for quite a while as I went back and forth with just a top five. I don't think this is in any particular order, because good god these people have suffered. Also, please note that I haven't read or watched Boruto and know nothing about it, so whatever atrocities occur there are mysteries to me.
That time Rin committed suicide by jumping into Kakashi's Chidori, then everyone started calling him Friend Killer Kakashi and even he believes he murdered his teammate in cold blood for the good of the village.
When Minato decided to make his minutes-old son the Kyuubi container and then swiftly leave him as an orphan, and Hiruzen thought the best thing to do would be to let the village terrorize him and leave him without the protection of his powerful, beloved parents' legacies.
Nagato going off the deep end after Yahiko got murdered and deciding to use his dead bestie's body as one of his paths, forcing Konan (who may or may not have been romantically linked with Yahiko, but at the very least was another childhood best friend) to interact with his corpse for years to come as Nagato's real body rotted in the basement.
Orochimaru's whole child experimentation/abduction/murder/body snatching extravaganza is just...horrific. He truly is a plague upon the elemental nations, and I believe if Tobirama were Hokage when Orochimaru started to get weird, he would have been put down like a mad dog. Maybe Minato would have tried to do it had he lived long enough, too.
You can't have a list of fucked up Naruto things without mentioning the obvious Uchiha massacre. Village-sanctioned genocide perpetuated by a 13-year-old family member and his insane cousin masquerading as their equally-insane ancestor is some dark shit, and that's not even getting to the other related factors (re: eyeball snatching, the Sasuke of it all, Divine Intervention via moon goddess planting the seeds of it happening at all).

Something that keeps me up at night is that we technically don’t know for certain what happened during the Uchiha Massacre. No one who’s talked about it is a reliable source.
Obito wanted Sasuke to join the Akatsuki and not go back to Konoha, so he had reason to lie.
Danzo saw Sasuke as a threat to Konoha and wouldn’t have shared village secrets with him, so he had reason to lie.
Itachi was already planning to use a genjutsu to make Sasuke fight for Konoha and probably would’ve been able to create false memories via genjutsu, so he had both reason and ability to lie.
Hiruzen knew that what he said would likely decide whether he would fight alongside or be used as a weapon against Konoha and he obviously wouldn’t want to be forced to turn against his own village, so he had reason to lie.
Orochimaru wasn’t there and we have no reason to believe that he knew what really happened, so he’s unreliable.
Even Sasuke’s own memory is established as being unreliable because he blocked out parts of what happened due to the trauma (and he could’ve created false memories in his attempts to rationalize the event later in life).
