That time I was taken by Hezbollah

One of my funniest memories is actually so fucked up. I'm a native Israeli, but I have 2 passports, Israeli and German. While I was studying in Brussels, my German mother worked in Ramallah and Beirut. I visited her on my German passport because Israelis are neither allowed, nor safe, to enter either (but you call us the apartheid?).

Back then, I was a bit ignorant and not aware that Hezbollah was actually an authority. I thought they were just, y'know, guerrillas.

So after my first vacation in Beirut, she drops me off at the airport and reminds me to be polite and calm when talking to airport security and, if questioned about the birthplace in my passport, just lie and say I haven't been to Israel since I was a baby and don't care about that country. I did know Israel and Lebanon were enemies, so it made sense.

From the other side of the travelers-only barrier, mum watches airport security take me to their office. They question me, I do as coached, I leave.

I love, love, LOVE it when I can tell a fic author has integrated their specialized knowledge in a fic. I was reading a fic that at some point included the character going to visit an art therapist, and it's so clear that the author is an art therapist themself, and the details included are just immaculate and I love it. I've previously read about a character doing fencing for no other reason than the author clearly wanting to write a sport they understood. I just learned of a horrible tragedy. Yesterday, New York cat rescuer Chris Arsenault's Happy Cat Sanctuary burned down. Chris died saving some 150 cats, but some 100 poor sweet cats have died with him, and some surviving cats are also dying from their injuries. Strong Island Animal Rescue League (or this link if you don't have Facebook) is taking care of the survivors and posting updates on Facebook and Instagram. Please help them with donations or shares!
