#dungeon meshi#kabru#laios touden#falin touden#Happy Thistle Thursday once again. Have I been holding on to this comic for several weeks? Sure have!#I forgot how long it takes for Chimera Falin to come into play.#I still really love my 'better drawn' art of her - unfortunately it was several weeks too early for the anime only folks.#Slowly getting the hang of drawing Laios. I don't know why I struggle so much but I am getting...somewhere.#Meta time: God damn I love how the chimera shows off the expertise and gap between Kabru and Laios.#The truth is: they are both *right* and they are both *wrong*.#This creature is a combination of monster and human and they only have the skillset to deal with one of those.#Kabru goes for all the human vitals - but she isn't human.#Laios tries to approach her as a monster and is struck down by the humanity he sees in her.#She is something new that defies what they *both* understand about the world. And that makes her such a perfect antagonist.#The damsel was the dragon all along!#...She is really so cute though. Terrifying! But adorable. I am so excited to see the boom of fanart for her.

New Dragon's World Epilogue
Epilogue
With this long tale at last concluded, we journey back one last time to check on Titus and his friends.
Titus returned to his job. Of course he had a difficult time explaining to his boss that the reason he was gone for so long was because he was trying to stop an evil dragon who wanted to conquer the world. Every weekend, he would travel to the dragon realm to visit his parents and pay his respects to Angela and Theian.
Sarah continued to attend Angela's shop. Over time, the shop would be frequented by those both young and old, eventually becoming the number one hot spot in the strip mall. Word had it that Sarah planned to add toys and possibly even video games to the store's selection. It was her hope that she would be able to change Angela's shop from a simple plush shop into a successful, independent toy store.
Now and then Lucas would go to visit the grave of his late wife. He would tell her all about the journey he went on with his friends, the things that they saw and the people they met. He also told her just how proud he was of Sean and just how much he grew from their journey. Truly, Lucas knew that Sean was no longer a little boy but well on his way to becoming a brave, respectable young man.
Drake returned to school along with Crystal and Sean. As his teacher promised, a pizza party was thrown in celebration of their return that indeed lasted the entire week. While the other kids were able to go that entire week without homework, Drake and his friends had quite a bit of catching up to do.
Rick returned to his family. Although his wife and daughters were distraught to see him bound to a wheelchair, Rick assured them that he was fine with it and was just thankful to be alive. He still kept in contact with Sarah and would even go to visit them on occasion with his family.
True to his word, Lucas did end up grounding Sean. For his punishment, Sean was not allowed to play his video games for a week and he had to do work around the yard and look after Tim. Much to his father's surprise, Sean made no protests to his punishment. If anything, he was strangely happy about it.
Crystal also returned to her family. As soon as she got home, she decided to tell her parents the truth about where she had been. Although her parents were proud of her for telling the truth, they were still upset that she lied and snuck off. Just like Sean, Crystal was also grounded, also having to do work around the house.
Kyle was at last able to get help for his drinking problem and swore to only drink once in a while. He would then go on to finish college, earning his Bachelor's degree and even getting a girlfriend. A cute, brown haired woman named Michelle
Come September, Tim began his first day of Kindergarten. He had the same teacher his brother, Drake, and Crystal had when they were his age. A few days later, Tim befriended two girls who were a grade above him. Everyone was quite surprised when they learned that these girls were in fact Rick's daughters.
Jackie went back to her job at the office. Just like her brother, Jackie has also started seeing someone: a coworker by the name of John Renevich. Despite the short time they'd been seeing each other, they were already discussing plans for marriage. Although they often joke about it, the two of them do secretly hope to marry someday.
Ben finished his children's book and sent it into an independent publisher. The book has gained successful acclaim and became a best seller. What truly surprised Ben though was when he learned that the fans of his book weren't just children, but even teenagers and grown adults.
Jessie provided Ben with the illustrations for his book. Her drawings were a major selling factor and were regarded as the highlight of the book.
Despite what she had previously said, Titus' mom did, in fact, take the position of Leader in her village with her husband selected by her to be her Champion. This act truly surprised the other dragon realm Leaders, who had never seen or heard of two mates taking the roles of Leader and Champion together.
And as for Jake, he was welcomed back into the class with open arms. Much to his dismay, Jake learned that he actually had more homework to catch up on than Drake and his friends. Although annoyed at first, Drake, Crystal, and Sean promised they'd work with Jake to finish up the stuff they missed. And although he was still having a bit of difficulty adjusting to his new family, Jake knew that they'd help him with whatever problems may arise.

Prompt 317
IMAGINE THIS: Lil baby Damian, bored and being not quite old enough to start learning how to use proper weapons (curse these wooden ones, he wants true steel!) is wandering the base. This is not out of the ordinary, he’s the prince after all. What is out of the ordinary is that his shadow, his Akhi, is not here.
Technically, he should be napping, but he woke up and neither his mother or his brother- who is quiet but gentle and isn’t a good speaker (mother said it was from a head injury)- is there. Which is how he finds his way to the Pit, which he’s not supposed to be at. Or at least not alone.
But! His mother and Akhi are there! And- and Akhi is screaming and he’s never heard him scream like that, like he’s in agony- His eyes are green- they were blue, had, had Mother placed him in the Waters-
And then the pool is bubbling- he should be running away, get assistance or something, he’s five, he shouldn’t be running towards it when everything is screaming to flee. But one moment he’s at the doorway, the next he’s clinging to his akhi as something writhes in the Pit, a mighty bellow echoing even as the Shadows take defensive positions.
The water cascades, laps at their feet, splashes everywhere as a scaled form rises from the depths, wings like a bloodied sunset spreading as fur bursts into flames. Crimson eyes glare down at them all, pupils slits as they bare down at his Akhi.
The creature- the dragon- dips its head down, its breath warm as it chuffs at his akhi, wings folding as though it is bowing. His akhi is clinging to Mother, shivering, several scars glowing as they fade and a burst of hair burned white.
Oh.
Oh.

New Dragon's World Final Chapter
Final Chapter: Dawn of a New Day
As the car pulled into the small, dusty town, it was met with the cheers of the energetic townsfolk. Upon stepping out of the car, Titus and Eig'nia were approached by their friends and family, who, although were more than happy and relieved to see them, grew worried when they saw that Titus' mother, Drake, Sean, and Crystal weren't with them.
"Titus, where are Drake and the others?" Sarah asked worriedly.
Titus pointed his thumb behind him. Following shortly behind the car were Titus' mom and the kids. Upon landing, the three of them hopped off the dragoness's back and Drake and Sean ran over to their father and mother. As Sarah placed her hands on her son's shoulders, she noticed that his left arm was broken. So Drake explained to his mom that his arm had been broken during the battle with Saulstrance. The news of this made Sarah feel somewhat uneasy. But those feelings of unease couldn't triumph over her relief at having her son and husband back safe and sound. As Titus joined his wife and son, the three of them embraced in a warm family hug. After which, Sarah led Drake to the clinic to get a cast for his arm.
While that was going on, Sean dashed over to his father and little brother, the two of whom met him wearing happy smiles that stretched from ear to ear. Sean hugged his dad tightly, shutting his eyes and smiling. A warm, comforting feeling swept over Sean as his father and Tim wrapped their arms around him.
"Dad…" Sean said meekly. "I'm sorry I ran off without telling you."
Lucas smiled contently. "That's okay Sean."
"You're not mad?" Sean asked surprised.
"Well of course I'm mad. You ran off to a dangerous battle you may not have come back from. What you and Crystal did was not very smart Sean." Lucas said, scolding Sean.
"I know dad and I'm sorry! But—me and Crystal, we wanted to be there for Drake!" Sean testified.
Lucas looked down at his son wearing a serious expression on his face. Suddenly, his frown turned into a smile as he kneeled down, getting close to his son's level as he pet his son's head.
"I know… and although I still can't say what you did was smart…I will say that it was brave. And sometimes, bravery and stupidity go hand in hand." Lucas said.
"So…you're not mad?" Sean asked hopefully.
"Well, let's put like this: I'll think up a punishment for you when we get home. But right now, I'm just glad you're okay." Lucas answered as he hugged his son once again.
Ben, Jessie, Kyle, Jackie, and Rick approached Titus. The two brothers nodded and hugged each other, smiling warmly.
"I'm so proud of you, Titus." Ben said with a wide smile on his face.
"Do you think mom and dad would be proud, too?" Asked Titus.
"I know they would." Ben answered back.
As Titus finished hugging his brother, he was greeted with another hug, this time by Jessie.
"Welcome home Titus." Jessie said quietly.
"It's good to be back." Said Titus, hugging his sister-in-law tighter.
While Titus and his family continued their celebrations, they soon found themselves surrounded by clapping from the townsfolk. Led by Frank, the clapping steadily grew louder as Titus' family joined in. Happy cheers and shouts mixed in with the clapping. Titus smiled in wonderment. He had never had this many people clap or cheer for him before. He smiled from ear to ear as he threw his arms into the air and waved to all of his newfound fans.
As the cheering continued, Drake and Sarah stepped out of the clinic with a couple doctors and nurses behind them. A blue cast had been wrapped around Drake's arm and it rested in a bandage that was wrapped around his neck.
Both mother and son watched the spectacle. They smiled proudly as they watched Titus receiving praise and admiration from the townsfolk. The citizens of Baker Valley crowded around Titus as he laughed nervously.
"Wow…" Drake said in amazement. "They really love dad, huh?"
"Yeah. He's a hero to them." Sarah smiled happily. "You want to know something, Drake? He's my hero too."
Drake looked at his mom and smiled. "Mine too!" He exclaimed.
Smiling anxiously, Drake ran over to the large crowd of people, hoping to get in on the fun. As she watched, Sarah thought back to when she first met Titus. Back then, he was an awkward kid who for whatever reason was becoming a dragon. His transformation had isolated him from his family and he had almost no one to count on, save for a kindly dragoness and her, a young orphan girl. Now here this awkward little kid was, more than twenty years later, having not only saved a small town but also the entire world, and she couldn't be more proud to call herself his wife. Tears rained down her face as she smiled, clapping slowly as she joined her family and the townsfolk.
"I'm so proud of you Titus. You and Drake." She said to herself, wiping a tear from her eye.
Titus laughed bashfully, still waving as everyone continued to crowd around him. He felt something tug on his pants leg which took him by surprise. He looked down, discovering that it was Adam who was hopping up and down, giggling happily.
"You did it! I knew you'd win, Mr. Titus!" Adam beamed.
Smiling, Titus kneeled down and rubbed Adam's head. "Thanks kiddo!" He said.
"So what was the bad guy like? Was he mean and creepy?" Adam asked.
"Well Adam, he was this kinda orangish, reddish dragon. He had a really mean face and sharp, deadly claws. But of course, he was no match for me." Titus grinned.
"I knew it! I knew he wouldn't be able to beat you! Nobody can beat my favorite dragon ever!" Adam exclaimed with a large smile on his face.
Adam's words simultaneously surprised Titus and brought a smile to his face. Adam wrapped his arms around his hero's neck and gave him a big hug. Everyone who was crowded around Titus watched with smiles of their own, touched by the little boy's love for not only his hero, but theirs as well.
"Hey Titus!" Sheriff Frank's voice called from behind.
Titus stood up and turned towards Frank, who was standing over by his car.
"Yeah?" Asked Titus.
"Titus, there's a kid in the backseat of your car. His head…is all…bloody. Oh my God, what happened to him?" Frank asked with concern.
"Oh yeah, that's right!" Titus said with alarm. "We better hurry…"
A couple days passed until Jake had finally woken up. Groaning groggily, he stared up at the ceiling for a time before attempting to sit up, moaning in slight pain as he did. He brought his hand to the top of his head and attempted to rub it, surprised to find that his head was wrapped in a bandage. Curious as to where he was, he looked around, finding himself to be in a hospital room. He wasn't sure when he got there or how. All he remembered was that he and his dad were fighting Drake, his dad, his grandmother, and Eig'nia. The last thing he could recall was that his dad smacked him with his tail and then everything went black.
Jake started to feel upset. He didn't want to consider the possibility of such a thing but…was it possible that his dad tried to kill him? No that couldn't be. This was his dad after all. Dads are supposed to love and protect their sons. Try as he may have to deny the reality of it all, however, it seemed all too likely that that was the case.
Suddenly the door to his room opened. Standing there in the doorway was Drake.
"Drake?" Jake asked confused.
"Hey guys, Jake's up! Jake's finally awake!!" Drake shouted down the hall of the clinic.
The sounds of chatter and numerous footsteps could be heard and Jake soon found his room crowded with Drake's friends and family. Although Jake didn't know it, everyone around him was relieved to find that he was alright.
"Hi there, Jake." Titus greeted, approaching the little half-dragon.
"You—You're Doulstraz." Jake said.
"Well, that's what my parents call me, but you can call me Titus."
"Oh…Okay…" Jake said nervously. "So…where am I?"
"You're at the Baker Valley clinic. We brought you back here after your dad did that little number on your head." Explained Titus.
"Wait, so you beat my dad then?! Where is he now?!"
The room fell silent for a moment. Looks of gloom appeared on the faces of Titus, Drake, his mom, and Eig'nia. Jake observed their faces. He knew just from looking at them that what they were about to say couldn't be good. He braced himself for the bad news.
"I'm sorry Jake. He's dead." Titus said somberly.
Even though Jake had expected that to be what Titus was going to say, he still couldn't help but feel somewhat disheartened at the news. He clenched his sheets tightly, lowered his head and squished his face. Everyone looked at the young boy, feeling terrible for him. Even though Saulstrance was their enemy and a large threat to both the human and dragon realms, he was still this boy's father and the only family he had left.
"I'm sorry Jake…" Titus said softly.
"It's okay." Jake said flatly, his head still hung low.
Jake raised his head and looked at Titus.
"Can you tell me something though, Titus? My dad…did he really try to kill me?" Jake asked, fearing the inevitable answer.
"Well…" Titus hesitated. He didn't think it would be a good idea to tell him the truth.
"He did, didn't he?" Jake asked flatly.
Titus sighed. "I'm sorry…"
Jake couldn't believe it. So, his fears were indeed true. He lowered his head yet again and squeezed his sheets tightly as he started to cry.
"Why?! Why would he try to kill me?! I thought he loved me; he told me so himself!" Jake sobbed loudly.
"Jake, it's okay, c'mon." Sarah said as she went over to Jake, putting her arms around him as he sobbed on her shirt.
"Poor kid." Kyle whispered under his breath. "I knew Saulstrance was a real scumbag but to try and kill his own son?"
"Yeah…" Jackie replied back. She was at a loss for words.
Jake continued to sob for a time before he finally began to calm down. He let go of Sarah and took a few deep breaths. He rubbed his eyes and looked up at everyone. The areas under his eyes were a bright red from his sobbing. He didn't want anyone looking at him like this so he looked away, afraid that they would start making fun of him.
"Hey Jake, what's wrong?" Drake asked worriedly.
"Don't look at me. You guys are gonna make fun of me for crying." He said stuffily.
"Why would we do that?" Drake asked.
"Yeah, there's nothing wrong with crying, Jake. If anything, I think it takes a real man to cry and not be ashamed of it." Kyle said, smiling at Jake.
"Seriously?" Jake asked.
Kyle nodded.
Jake was truly surprised. He couldn't believe how nice Drake and the others were being to him seeing as how he was their enemy not too long ago. He looked around at them and smiled.
"Thanks, guys. Really, thanks." Jake said.
"So what are you going to do now?" Asked Jessie.
"I don't know…my dad was the only family I had." Jake answered.
"You don't have a mom?" Crystal asked.
Jake shook his head. "My mom died giving birth to me. I don't have any grandparents or aunts or uncles on my dad's side and I never got to meet anyone from my mom's side."
Titus and Sarah looked at each other and smiled. They nodded at each other and turned their attention back to Jake.
"Say Jake, I have an idea: How would you like to come live with us?" Said Titus.
"What?" Jake asked in shock.
"See, me and Sarah have been talking the last few days and we thought that if you didn't have anyone else to turn to, then we'd adopt you ourselves." Titus explained.
"I think that would be a great idea! Besides, Drake's always wanted a sibling. Right, Drake?" Sarah added.
Drake smiled happily and nodded twice.
"But…I'm Saulstrance's son. I thought you guys hated him. Wouldn't you hate me too then?" Jake asked meekly.
Titus kneeled down at Jake's bedside and placed a hand on the boy's shoulder.
"I'll be honest with you Jake, I do still hate your father but that doesn't mean I hate you. You've shown me and everyone else here that even if you are his son, you're much different than he is."
"I am?" Jake said.
"Yep, because unlike Saulstrance, you actually have a conscience. Never forget that."
Titus just continued to surprise Jake. It was strange for Jake but being around Titus, it almost felt as though Titus himself had been his real father this whole time. Titus was absolutely nothing like his father described him. Jake remembered way back when he was no older than four or three years old. His father would tell him stories of how a mean, evil dragon, along with his human cohorts, barged into his headquarters and very nearly ended up killing him. He would tell Jake that if he wasn't careful, the mean dragon and his human sidekicks would try and get him too. But now, here he was, bewildered at the realization that Titus and his friends were in fact the very opposite of how his dad described them.
Titus removed his hand from Jake's shoulder and stood up as Sarah proceeded to kneel.
"What do you say, Jake? Would you like to come live with us?" Sarah asked.
Without a moment's hesitation, Jake put his arms around Sarah and hugged her tightly, closing his eyes and smiling warmly. Sarah put her arms around Jake, hugging him back. For the first time in his life, Jake was getting to experience what it was like to have a mom. Everyone watched with smiles on their faces, some even becoming misty eyed. Eig'nia smiled contently. Now that she knew that Jake would be fine, she was ready to turn herself in to the dragon realm's Leaders.
"I'm ready…" Eig'nia said to Titus' mom. "We can leave whenever you are."
The two dragonesses exited the hospital room in a quiet fashion. Nobody around, except for Titus, noticed that they had left. Titus stepped out of the room and headed towards the exit to see his mom and Eig'nia standing just outside the entrance.
"Hey, mom, Eig'nia, hold on!" Titus called out as he rushed over to them.
"So, you're leaving now?" He asked.
"Yes. I'm going to turn myself in to the Leaders. Now that I know that Jake's going to be okay, I have no regrets." Eig'nia said.
"We'll be taking Saulstrance's body with us too. The dragon realm will be happy to know that its worst criminal has finally been put to rest." Said Titus' mom.
As Titus' mom returned to her dragon form, Titus went over to the back of his car. He popped the back open and pulled out a large body bag. Inside this bag was the body of Saulstrance. His mom instructed him to place the bag on her back. Carefully, Titus set the bag on her back, in between her wings. At that moment, Titus' mom opened up a portal and the two of them were about to step through before Eig'nia asked to wait. She went over to Titus and extended her hand out.
"We won't be seeing each other ever again so I want to take the opportunity to say…thank you Doulstraz."
Titus shook her hand, although he didn't understand why she was doing this.
"I just don't get it: Why do you insist on turning yourself in? It's only thanks to you that we could stop Saulstrance. If it wasn't for you, we probably wouldn't be here right now." Titus said hectically.
"Even so, I'm still a criminal. Don't forget, at one point I was allied with him. Besides…it's partly my fault that this all happened. I'll take whatever sentence the Leaders give me…so long as it means I'll be able to make up for everything." Eig'nia said with a hint of sadness in her voice.
Titus sighed heavily. "I guess I can't change your mind then. If that's what you want…"
Titus' mom formed a portal. She and Eig'nia were about to step through when Eig'nia stopped a foot before it.
"Doulstraz!" Eig'nia called.
"Yes?" Asked Titus.
"Take good care of Jakol. He's a good kid but he needs someone to guide him."
"I'll do my best. I'll make sure that he doesn't go astray." Titus assured the dragoness.
Eig'nia turned towards Titus, smiling. "I know you will Doulstraz. Thank you. Goodbye."
The dragonesses stepped through the portal as it closed behind them. Titus frowned and looked down, feeling melancholic. Deep down, he truly wished he could have gotten Eig'nia to reconsider. He felt that she had more than made up for everything that happened. Despite these thoughts, he still respected her choice on the matter and Titus knew, in his heart that the day would come when the two of them would meet again.
Titus' mom and Eig'nia traveled through the portal, nearing the entrance to the dragon realm. Eig'nia smiled contently to herself. Despite betraying her once dearest friend, she felt no guilt over her decision and, if anything, was proud that she was able to muster up the courage to make the right choices and help protect the two worlds. Her eyes peered over to Titus' mom who was still carrying Saulstrance's body on her back.
"You know, the Leaders will be more than happy when you present Saulstrance's body to them. They may even make you a Leader for helping bring him down. If I remember correctly, the position of Leader in your village has been open for quite some time." Said Eig'nia.
"Thanks." Titus' mom responded. "But I don't really desire that kind of responsibility. All I want now is to live the rest of my days with my mate, among my fellow villagers."
Back in Baker Valley, Titus was still standing in the same spot. He threw his arms into the air and stretched. He looked around, thinking about how much he was going to miss Baker Valley. It had almost started to become something of a second home to him. He turned around and walked back into the clinic.
Several more days passed and Jake was finally let out of the hospital. Everyone stood outside of the clinic, looking out on the small desert town that they had come to familiarize themselves with in the short time they were there.
"You know, after everything that's happened, I'm really going to miss this place." Titus said.
"It's strange. It feels like we've been on this journey for years. It's hard to believe this is really the end." Ben said.
"And now off we go, back to our old, normal lives." Lucas added.
"And Kyle, my brother, what did you promise you'd do when we get home?" Jackie asked testily.
"I know Jackie, awright?! I'm going to get help on my drinking, and I'm going to finish college." Kyle said, annoyed with his sister's nagging.
"Oh, come on Kyle, lighten up! I'm just messing with you!" Jackie laughed, slapping her brother's shoulder. "Look, I know you don't need me breathing down your back, ready to scold you for every little thing. It's just…I worry about you. That's all."
"I know, but you, and mom and dad don't have to worry anymore. I'm gonna clean my act up and finally finish college. I promise. But when I do get my act together, promise you won't give me such a hard time anymore?" Said Kyle.
Jackie chuckled. "Alright. I promise."
"Well, this is it guys. It's time to go home." Said Titus.
"Hold on for a moment." Called a familiar voice.
Everyone looked to their right, finding Titus' mother standing before the clinic's wheelchair ramp. They wondered why she would be back in Baker Valley. They were certain she had gone back home to the dragon realm.
"Hey, mom. What are you doing here?" Titus asked puzzled.
"There's something I wanted you all to see." She answered cryptically.
The dragoness took a step back as a familiar face appeared from behind the wall of the clinic. This face was that of Titus' dad. Everyone, most especially Titus and Drake, were surprised to see him alive and well. Smiles quickly formed on Titus' and Drake's faces and Drake ran over to his grandfather, tears running down his cheeks as he hugged his grandpa tightly, sobbing loudly as he did.
"Oh, come now, Drake. What's the matter? I'm okay, see?" His grandpa said, trying to get Drake to calm down.
"I know…It's just I…I…" Drake said through his tears, sniffling, unable to finish his sentence. He cried again as he hugged his grandpa once more. His grandfather petted his head in an effort to get him to relax.
"Drake…" Titus said, still smiling.
"You know, seeing how strong he is, sometimes I've forgotten Drake's still just a kid." Said Kyle, also smiling.
"Yeah, I know what you mean." Jackie agreed.
Accompanied by his mate and grandson, Titus' father walked up to the group. He apologized to them for worrying them so much which Titus assured him was fine.
"So, my boy, word is that you defeated Saulstrance. Is this true?" The old dragon asked, his eyes lit up brightly.
"Yeah…but I couldn't have done it without everyone's help. Besides, Eig'nia's the one who truly deserves the credit." Titus said modestly.
His father laughed heartfully. "You don't need to be so modest, Doulstraz. Even if that's true, it was you who administered the coup de grace to Saulstrance, am I right?"
"Well…" Titus laughed shyly. "Yeah, I guess…"
"Man, look at you, dad. You're alright. You're really alright!" Titus said, still with a little bit of disbelief.
"Yes…Ontrix's remedies always seem to do the trick." I owe her my life."
"So I take it you're all about to head home, right?" Asked Titus' mom.
"Yeah. Actually, we were just about to leave." Titus answered.
"Well I'm not sure how you all plan to fit into my son's car. I imagine it'll be pretty painful for you driving home." The dragoness said.
"Really." Kyle replied, unenthusiastically.
"That reminds me, Eig'nia blew MY car up! I had almost completely forgotten about that." Lucas said, becoming slightly agitated.
"I have an idea." Said Titus' dad. "How about we take you all to the dragon realm? There, we'll open a portal for all of you that will send you back home. Would that be fine?"
"Would that be fine? That would be perfect. Thank you, Grandma and Grandpa Dragon." Sarah said.
Just as he had said, Titus' father opened a portal to the dragon realm. Half of Titus' friends stepped through it while the other half, along with Titus himself, climbed into Titus' car. As he turned on the ignition, Titus pondered how weird it might feel driving his car through a portal. At the same time, he was anxious to find out. He stepped on the gas and his car disappeared into the portal. Finally, Titus' mom stepped through, followed by her mate. With that, the portal closed behind them.
A couple minutes later, Frank came running up to the clinic, followed by Adam, Lee, and Jimmy. They had hoped they'd be able to catch the group before then had left. When they looked around, they found no sign of Titus' car.
"They must have just left." Said Frank panting.
"Aw man!" Jimmy said disappointedly. "I really wanted to say goodbye to Drake and his friends. This sucks!"
"Yeah…" Lee said, equally as disappointed as his friend. "Now I wish I wouldn't have slept in."
"Dad, are we ever gonna see Mr. Titus again?" Adam asked hopefully.
Frank looked down and smiled at his son. "You know what, Adam? I think we will. Yeah, something tells me this isn't the last we've seen of them." He said with utmost confidence.
Frank and the boys stood on that dusty road for a while, staring off into space while they reflected on the times they spent with Titus and his friends and just how grateful they were to him for protecting their small town. While they thought about everything Titus and the others did for them, they started to realize just how much they changed their lives from the short time they knew them: Titus was able to help Frank muster up the courage to ask his son's preschool teacher for her hand and he provided Adam with a role model to look up to. As for Jimmy and Lee, they realized just how much fun Drake made Baker Valley. Although they were gone, Frank, Adam, Jimmy, and Lee knew that one day, they would return to Baker Valley and until then, they'd be anxiously looking forward to that day.
One month later, a burial was held for Alex which was attended by everyone. Because no one, not even Jake knew Alex's last name, Titus and Sarah decided to have his name marked on the tombstone as Alex Flamel.
Sometime after the burial was over, only Titus, Sarah, Drake and Jake remained at the gravesite. Jake stood before his adopted brother's grave, looking down at it with a depressed, worn out expression on his face. He sighed heavily as he kneeled down on one knee and placed his right hand on top of the tombstone. He read the inscription on the tombstone in his head.
In Loving Memory Alex Flamel Aug. 23, 2010 Apr. 25, 2024
"Hey Jake, are you okay?" Sarah asked with concern. "Yeah…" Jake said with little emotion in his voice.
"Jake… Look man, I'm sorry I killed Alex. I didn't mean –" Jake stood up. He turned towards his new brother and smiled. "It's okay Drake. I don't blame you anymore. It's just… I just wish he was here right now. I miss him so much!" He said sadly.
Titus walked up to Jake. "And it's perfectly fine that you miss him Jake. But you want to know something? As long as you never forget him, he'll always be with you, right here." Titus said, pointing to Jake's heart.
"He will?" Asked Jake, placing his hand over his chest.
Titus nodded.
Jake smiled happily at his new father. Titus smiled back at him, relieved that his words were able to make Jake feel better. Shortly after he had said it, he realized that what he had just told Jake also applied to him: As long as he never forgot Theian, Angela, or his human parents, they'd always be with him too.
"We should probably be going." Sarah said.
"Yeah." Titus smiled in agreement.
As the four of them were about to head back to their car, Jake stopped ten feet from Alex's grave. He looked back at the grave one last time and smiled, silently thanking Alex for everything. Jake knew that even though Alex had done some horrible things to him and others, deep down, Alex wasn't a bad person and that under his human hating exterior was a kid who desperately wanted a friend just as much as Jake himself did, perhaps even moreso.
"Hey Jake! Come on, we're going home now!" Drake called out.
Jake nodded and ran to the car. As the car began its departure from the graveyard, Jake took one final look back at Alex's grave. Right then, he could have sworn that he saw Alex standing by his grave, waving goodbye. Jake smiled and nodded as a tear ran down his cheek. He laid back in his seat, still smiling, soon falling asleep.
The following day, Sean and Crystal were at the light rail station, waiting for Drake and Jake. The two of them couldn't believe that after all this time, they would finally be going back to school. The thought of it annoyed them. After everything that had happened, including very nearly losing both Drake and Jake, now what they wanted more than ever was for another evil dragon to try and take over the world so they could get another week off.
"Hey, Crystal, Sean!!" Drake called out as he and Jake ran over to their friends.
"You're late!" Crystal scolded.
"Yeah, sorry." Drake said, scratching the back of his head.
Sean groaned. "Man, I can't believe we have to go back to school. That really sucks."
"Yeah but today's gonna be awesome! Remember Sean? Ms. Thermacker said she was gonna throw a weeklong pizza party for us when we got back!" Drake exclaimed in excitement.
"Weeklong?!" Jake parroted, both shocked and pleasantly surprised.
"Yeah dude!" Drake said with a toothy grin. "Oh, I can't wait! I love pizza!"
"Well then what are we waiting for? Trolley! Get here already!" Sean shouted enthusiastically.
A short time later, the trolley pulled into the station. As soon as everyone who needed to get off the trolley did so, Drake, Sean, Crystal, and Jake climbed aboard. They took a row of seats, Crystal and Sean sitting next to each other in the seats to their left, Drake and Jake occupying the seats to their right. Even though he was headed back to school, Jake was surprisingly happy about it. In fact, for the first time in a while, Jake was actually feeling happy about everything. Not only did he get a new father, in addition to a mother and a brother but he also finally found the friends he always wanted. Friends who would stick by him, who would be there for him, whenever he needed them.
