continuing the saga of Changing My Name And Pronouns Has Turned My Life Into A Bad Sitcom i've been easing the new name into my life not by telling people to change what they call me but by introducing myself to new people with that name and just not correcting previous people who still call me by my first name

this includes the fact that i have registered with a university for my second bachelors degree using my new name and still have not told my parents i use a different name so stay tuned to find out whether they hear about it sometime in the next 4 years or if they get a fun surprise at my graduation

#nottrek #was at a restaurant today with my band who all know me by my first name #and because there were 15 of us booked in the waitress was taking everyone's order along with their name #and when she asked me my name i didn't even hesitate and gave her my new name Nick #and my friend sitting beside me laughed and asked if i made it a habit to give people fake names #and like it didn't even occur to me #i had to be like no dude that's what most people call me #so i guess that's where things are at there #i should probably tell the rest of the band...#or at least the band member i'm literally about to move in with...#eh #season's over i've got the whole summer to tell them #also the post is partly a joke there's no way my parents would come to another graduation #not least of all because my mom doesn't even live in this province anymore lmao #gender stuff

things could always be worse. the shitty small band you started following ironically but accidentally got way too invested in could announce a collab with one of your genuinely great favourite small artists. i would know because it JUST HAPPENED TO ME

#when i say shitty small band i dont just mean their music btw #these people have been in so much drama in the time theyve existed (less than a year) including ripping off bigger creators #stealing music from former collaborators and people not even involved in the band #lying to people about album/song releases and deleting all their shit at random complete with a huge lack of transparency abt it #lying about being related (as in family) to way bigger creators so they can bag collaborations on songs #rebranding whenever they get called out on their bullshit and promising to change and then proceeding to do the same shit #and way more that i cant think of rn #so yeah im slightly bewildered and devastated at the fact that an artist i love who is super talented and unique and overall a good guy #is making a song with these dickwads #im assuming he doesnt know about how shitty they are considering theyve rebranded to a new name since their last huge drama #and have mostly managed to avoid backlash on the same level as before #but still 😭 hoping he gets tf out of there

listening to new old music is like stupid hard because it's like. should i be going through the records to see if a band that was mostly popular thirty years ago is in some way problematic or can i just listen to the music? either way it's gonna make me feel like crap so i might as well do neither

Double shift last weekend and this is the only picture I got (which my coworker actually took with me for her Facebook story RIGHT when I looked like shit and it was low effort makeup day because I had to be there early to open the bar)

#a drunk girl in the bathroom called me pretty and two other regulars kissed me on the cheek and called me pet names this is why I'm gay #one of those regulars (who's the bff of my coworker i haven't worked with yet because she's taking a break) asked me to have shots with her #she and the other girl are the sweetest every time i swear they're there almost every weekend and they call me Schatz and Maus #the moment i came back in after putting away my bag and jacket on saturday a middle aged guy mentioned my volbeat hoodie #talked about all the metal bands he's seen like judas priest acdc saxon iron maiden and showed me some new songs he's been into lately #later sang mama i'm coming home to/with me and he and another guy gave me lots of career advice and encouraged me to be bolder in interview #a metalhead dude with long blonde hair and beard (who was also at a concert I worked at last month) winked at me and gave me like €4 tips #and every time he ordered his drinks he put his hand on the back of my head to say it in my ear #because the music from the speakers above was kinda loud but technically not loud enough to do That gjsgfjdshhh 😭😭#he's so hot too he looks like a kind boyish viking idk if that makes sense but 😫😫#the amount of people who have flirted with me or acted a little bit 😏 in the last three months #but nothing came of it so far just trusting they'll come back soon when i'm working the shift again #no phone numbers no insta handles we pine like in the old days and smirk when we see each other for the first time in a while #my face #the bartender chronicles

Oh I am. At least 75% of what I listen to is country. I grew up on it, it's all I heard as a stockman, I love country. Slim Dusty is the goat.

But I also listen to a lot of alt rock and heavy metal. Usually when I'm working or practising shooting. I was an edgy teenager once too, brooding about how much my life sucked while I listened to Breaking Benjamin at a volume probably capable of causing permanent hearing loss.

Funnily enough it always surprises people when they see my Spotify playlists because apparently I just SCREAM stockman/cowboy so nobody ever expects me to listen to other genres?? But anyone who knows me knows I also love outlaw country and gothic/"dark" country specifically, which is an intersection between alt rock, heavy metal, punk/post-punk, and country, so. C'mon the signs are right there

Randomly remembered the half-reason i call my oc-verse by the name it has while laying in bed. One-half of the reason i still knew, but I had forgotten what had truly, really cemented it jointly until now

(it was a song from my favourite band I haven't listened to in a while.)

(the song fit so well at the time, still does, that i needed to hold onto it for the main protagonists forever, by partially naming their story in reference.)

Does this explanation make any sense? Does anyone know why I'm tearing up remembering this. Aahh

#(I'm emotional because I've been feeling bad about it all lately. enjoying things I make I mean—art or ocs or frivilous things.)#(So remembering that song and when it came out. That I couldn't see them in person. But i held onto it my own way. As something I loved)#(Something I still do love a lot... Parts of me saying no—you don't hate it. No. I'll help you remember more. I'm a little misty about it.)#The song is just The Killers - Run For Cover. I couldn't see them in person all those years ago—family went without me.#All my new oc rework with Zin and Hunter and Caia were like a year old or so.#It's a little silly. But the character Zin's derived from was a lightning mage so I stuck to it—I like monhun's zinogre for what its worth #So there's recurring theme and imagery. Thunder's not lightning but the sound and the feeling after the flash the flame and strike.#There's that meaningful thought—the story is the aftermath of a big tragedy. It matches what I like in monsters and other chars.#And at that time—my favourite band I missed out on puts out a really good song I download everywhere and it goes like:#He motioned me to the sky/ I heard heaven and thunder cry/ Run for cover/ Run while you can baby don't look back/ You gotta run for cover #And it goes on of course. The rest of the song's still really good. There's more that fits but point is; More evocative imagery.#So there. Why my bundle of OCs—Zinadia Hunter and Caia's story—is called Thunder 20XX. minus the 20XX. That's tongue-in-cheek #About some day I'll manage to make something tangeable or broadly shareable with them. I guarentee this century!#Thunder... oh my darling Thunder. Eight years man. More than that if I really want to count pre-rework INTO the complete original work. but #I like that it's definably 8. I like that I remembered I've always loved them a lot. I noticed they changed their Spotify profile pic to just the three of them. I get that Charlie isn’t in the band anymore, but it just feels wrong on so many levels.

And you made a good point about that physical gap between Mick and Keith in the photo and how they would probably end up calling it quits if something happened to Mick or Keith. I honestly think they would continue on without Ronnie if it came to that, sadly. I just have so many feelings about this.

#I’m going to be really mean for a second #because at this point I feel justified #no one is going to give a shit about this album or steve being in the band 5 years after they call it a day #if that #music critics and historians and all the other people involved in preserving and shaping the legacy of a band #are almost guaranteed to write this off as the period when they really should have quit and didn’t/when they became every other 60s rock #band that tours under its original name even though only 2 members are left #it’s not a good look #and the only era(s) and the only music that’s actually going to last #is what they did with Charlie #most people (and a lot of critics) haven’t given a toss for anything they’ve done since Tattoo You #this album isn’t going to change that #neither is ignoring Charlie’s existence and acting like they’re some brand new ‘energetic’ band #it just makes them seem craven and more concerned with praise and profit than loyalty #I get that mick hates nostalgia #but the reality is. if they ever actually tour with Hackney Diamonds. they’ll play 3-4 songs off it (maybe) in a concert and then go back to #the classics. not closing up shop after Charlie has made this the ultimate Boomer ‘we’re too special for that to happen to us’ nostalgia #trip #setting a torch to their reputation for loving respecting and always directing attention towards the importance of their drummer #for some short term feel good goal #is not going to sit well in the long term #with fans or in their own souls (metaphorically speaking)#the rolling stones #charlie watts #ask response #charliesmydarling
