Traditional costumes (Part 1) (GN!MC)
Hello there my darlings How´s it going? First of all, I must say the following:
OMG YASS! YASS I CAN DO IT!!! There are so many that It´s sad I can only put 11 of them but YES YES I´LL DO IT. I´m actually really excited about this, that we will have to parts of it!
Second: Thank you!!! Today we are 308 followers!!!! For me having this number of followers it´s still a dream, and I really loved so much the idea of the typical costume, that it will be a 308 followers special divided in 2 parts, welcome to the first part. Thank you for following! I will keep doing my very best!!
Lucifer (Jarocho Veracruz)
Lucifer was walking by, when he saw you taking care of a big white dress, the first thing he thought “A brides dress?” He wasn´t enterally wrong, but he wasn´t right.
He asked you nicely what were you doing and why did you have a bride’s dress. The only thing you could do was laugh, Lucifer might be the all mighty one above the seven brothers, but sometimes he was too naïve. Or maybe that was just your imagination.
He saw the embroidery in the apron that was over the skirt, and he wondered: How many hours it took to do that embroidery? Even the skirt was way to thick, and sometimes he forgot that humans had many ways to dress up. He touched the fabric, even that red fabric was so beautiful How was it called? Rebozo?
He looked so intrigued that you decided to tell the story about the dress.
“In the colony time, Veracruz were one of the most important ports around the world. Spanish women stayed in Papaloma´s river basin, the wore big old dresses, with thick fabric, but in Veracruz that doesn´t take place, not back then not even now, it´s beach and it has a humid climate. The Spanish and creoles used to dress a colorful skirt and an apron with embroidery flowers, also a shawl with lace, and silk ribbons, even a hand fan, by the other hand, indigenous and mestizas women used to use flowery skirts and blanket blouses with a rebozo and their hair were braided. But the dress of the Spanish and the creoles didn´t work out, the weather was so hot that they simply decided to use cotton and organdy. But I guess, this “new” dress was used for the creoles wedding dress. Now a days is typical to be use in folkloric dances.”
For someone like Lucifer, he didn´t waste a second, and he dreamt, maybe in some years you could use that dress on your wedding day.
Mammon. (Charro Jalisco)
He was sneaking into your room, for sure he was searching something to steal and then sell it, maybe the great Mammom would buy something for you, something nice. His human must use something nice, maybe a necklace. He knew that you kept your precious little something in the closet, so he check it, and oh surprise, that ain´t little.
That was a heavy suit for a human your size, and are those silver buttons? He was actually impressed, he looked to every single detail in the costume, that hat is actually so beautiful that he needed to use it, no matter what, he needed to put that in his head.
That´s why you discover him, he was in front of your mirror, you took a mentally note, he needed a charro suit to, maybe you will teach him the folklore dance. When he heard you laugh he started to blush, saying that he wasn´t doing nothing at all.
“Mammon. Would you like to hear the story of this suit?” His eyes had that childish sparkle, and he immediately sat in your bed, waiting for the story.
“The charro suit started from decades away, in the colonial time, must say in the XVI century, with a very fine work, with gold and silver buttons, embroidery of golden thread. But, you know, only the wealthy ones could use the accessories, the intelligent ones, would make their owns, with maybe some paint, and creating the best suit of them all, just like the saying says. “El charro de cuero se viste, por ser lo que más resiste”. Now a days mariachis and dancers use it, and also some horse riders for exhibitions. “
Mammon was as happy as a child, he needed that suit from old centuries, maybe Lucifer had one.
Leviathan (Azteca Tenochtitlán (This city does not longer exist, it´s not even a state) )
Levi was sitting in the living room, when he heard something, were does bells? No way that noise wasn´t a bell one, it was more like a bone sound, so he followed the sound, and there you where, in the garden, with your full costume, dancing for the gods and for practice, you didn´t want to forget the dance your ancestors made so many centuries away.
When you felt the presence of him you turned around and smiled at him. “Levi, do you like my Hueseras? My grandpa made them for me! Aren´t them cute? Oh maybe you prefer the penacho? It´s so hard to find the Quetzal feathers.” He just stopped breathing, you looked just like that final boss of the game: “Trying to avoid to be a sacrifice for the Gods and keeping my heart on my chest.”
He just nodded, after that a big silence started between the two of you. So you decided to keep dancing, and he was just there watching you, with stars in his eyes, and you decided to tell him the story about the clothing,
“Before the conquest, my ancestors used to use beautiful clothing, with animal skin and feathers of birds, they made each outfit for each person in the social pyramid, the Tlatoani used the Penachos, also some bishops did it too, and head military ones, usually the military were decorated with gold and seashells, and a difficult headpieces, women if they weren´t in the high society used to use Huipiles and Quexquémitl, with skirts and natural pigments.”
Levi was amazed, just like in his game, but this time he needed a translator to understand those words you said, he wanted to use one of them too.
“Now, how about I teach you how to dance.”
Satan. (Traje elegante Nuevo León)
Satan had been invited to an opening from a new restaurant in Devildom, sometimes he would ask himself if it was fine for him to go alone for this type of events. Today he wanted to take you out for a nice dinner. Formal clothing, or that´s what it says in the invitation, well you had the fanciest clothing in the whole world just in your closet, so you took it out, you prepared yourself and you were ready to go. The avatar of wrath didn´t mention a thing, although you clothing of tonight was stunning and tons of looks were on you that night, after few drinks, and you telling every demon, that the mezcal of your country was ten times better than the drink in the Devildom, some of those demons actually asked. “Why are you in a custom?” Oh dear, not even Satan could make something when you picked the microphone. “Demons, this ain´t a costume, now, sit and listen to the story of this magnificent outfit. It all started in the colonial age in Mexico, Nuevo León did not had that extraordinary change from the conquest, actually the indigenous were nomads and we don´t have much of their cultural information. Women and men needed to have a hard character. In 1960 the dress maker Ramón Validosera made this beautiful suit for all of us, in 1970 it was one of the most important yet one of the greatest folkloric costumes in Mexico. This suit was made for the ones that will work hard enough in the fields, even though the women one is more complex than the male one.” After the explanation they stopped watching you with smirks in their faces, they actually asked if you could take a photo with them. When the party was over, Satan took your hand and escort you back to the house. “You didn´t mention that the suit was made for a beer festival”. He told you, and you laugh. “It wasn’t necessary. And it will be our secrete.”
Asmo ( China poblana Puebla)
Asmo had this epiphany, he had seen a folkloric dance of Mexico so long ago, and he just remembered it, he was sitting in one of the library armchairs, watching an old photo album, wondering if you were in the house, he started to seek you. When he heard you in Levi´s room he took you away.
“Mc! You are from Puebla, right?” You made a silent nod. “So, do you own one of the folkloric dress?” The question leaves you thinking. “I guess, but is in the human realm.” With those words Asmo actually begged Lucifer for authorization to go into the human realm.
When you arrived into your house, Asmo asked you nicely if you could tell him all about the dress. “Well, the story starts in the Colonial age, the legend says, that a chines woman was sold as a slave, but ended up in the hands of the richest. Actually she wasn´t chines nor from Puebla, she was a princes from Mongolia, but they were in a war so she was captured and sold as a slave, from hand to hand was sold, just like Malinche, anyway she found a good person that protected her, and then she married a merchant in Puebla, after that she lived until her 70´s. Her clothing was so beautiful and weird for the age, in one part beautiful Indigenous colors and in the other Spanish silk, with big ornaments in her hair. After some years they improve the dress, It consists of a white short-sleeved shirt, low on the chest, made of fine cotton embroidered with various colorful motifs. The skirt is a long skirt of thick fabric in dark red, with embroidery on the front that reproduce the national symbols: the eagle devouring the serpent perched on a cactus, or the Aztec calendar. The outfit is completed by a fine silk shawl in the tones of the colors of our national flag; and the one that requires the bun braided with tricolor bows, several necklaces of paper beads and large gold earrings.”
When you finished the story Asmo was tearing, a poor young woman who was sold by a men, but she found true love, was just, too beautiful.
After that he made you use the dress and well, the rest is story.
Let´s learn some Spanish and more than that:
Malinche: Indigenous women that helped Hernán Cortés for the conquest in Mexico. And it´s also a volcanos name, so be careful when you talk about her, you might be talking about the volcano.
Huaseras: Bells that are included in the aztec dance, also known as: Ayoyotl.
Penacho: Set of raised feathers that certain birds have on top of their heads
Quetzal: Bird from Mexico, in Nahuatl the name means long tail of bright feathers.
Tlatoani: Head of the Aztec society, something like a president.
El charro de cuero se viste, por ser lo que más resiste” : The leather charro dresses, for being the thing that resists the most
Rebozo: Shawl or cloak of cotton, wool or silk of various colors, used by some village women to cover their heads, shoulders, chest and back as a coat; It is also used to wrap and carry a child.

my only weakness (you know all my secrets)
I have had the great fortune to participate in @ashesonthefloor‘s Halloween fic event this year! Honestly it was a blast and I’m super excited to see everyone else’s creations!
Event Masterlist
For this event, we all were assigned a pairing, then got to choose from a list of prompts. My prompt was as follows: “You’ve told me three separate times now you have a vampire kink and I’m starting to wonder if you know I’m a vampire.” Or, pretty explanatory. One person is a vampire. The other has a vampire “kink”. (Can also be them saying they like the aesthetic, or trying to hint that they know and don’t mind. Literally do what you want with it) I strayed a little bit, but the prompt idea is still there! Hope you enjoy!
Michael is having a hard time figuring out if the amount of vampire jokes and references is due to Ashton knowing his deepest, darkest secret, or if that's just his sense of humor.
Read on ao3
1.
The first time it happens, they’re heading to their first date.
Michael hasn’t really dated anyone since the 90s, because dating is complicated. He doesn’t age. He can’t eat regular food. Going out in the sun is dicy at best and results in extremely painful sunburn at worst. He shows up in most mirrors now, because they rarely have silver backing anymore, but pictures are a no-go because his eyes cause a lens flare.
The last person he went on an actual date with was Calum, because they’ve been friends for centuries and figured they might as well give it a go. Michael wishes they could have worked, but it took some making out before they both agreed that, as much as they love each other, it’s all platonic. The date itself was fun, but there were no romantic butterflies to be found. Michael has seen Calum naked many times before, and while he can appreciate a handsome man, when it’s Calum it does nothing for him.
Ashton is very handsome. He’s also funny, and passionate, and he’s got more than enough snark to speak Michael’s language. He’s got tenacity and determination, and for some reason part of that determination got directed towards getting Michael on a date with him.
He didn’t have to work very hard. Michael said yes at the first opportunity.
For the first date, Ashton asked if he could pick him up, so Michael waits nervously in his living room, listening to his grandfather clock ticking. (He’s had it since 1733. It was made specifically for him by the clockmaker, a parting gift because if Michael stayed in the area for too much longer, his lack of ageing would get suspicious.)
(This is such a bad idea. Even if this date goes well, Michael can’t be in a relationship with a human for very long before his secret will slip.)
His phone vibrates with a message, and he nearly jumps out of his skin before he realizes that it’s just Calum, not Ashton about to cancel or spring a sudden change of plans.
Cal: have fun on your date ;) wow him with your Biting sense of humor
Michael: i hate you the puns got old centuries ago
Cal: you love them
Michael’s doorbell rings, startling him enough that he fumbles his phone and effectively cutting off any sort of argument he may have started to get into. Michael stands from the couch, takes a deep breath, and answers the door.
Ashton looks really fucking good. Michael has only really seen him in their work clothes, when Ashton is writing up articles about the local music scene and Michael is busy approving things to put on the website, but he dresses up very nicely. His hair is artfully tousled in a way Michael knows must take a little bit of time, and Michael thinks there might be just a hint of glitter under his eyes that would make his heart palpitate if it still did stuff like that. His shirt is short sleeved, showing off his arms nicely, and there are roses printed against the white fabric that match the ones in the bouquet in his hands.
Michael doesn’t know the last time someone gave him flowers.
“Hi,” Ashton says. “You look amazing.”
Michael feels like he’s underdressed now. He’s got on a black long sleeve, because the sun hasn’t fully set yet and he’s trying to cover as much skin as possible, and a pair of black jeans. It’s a nicer shirt of his, something name brand that he can afford due to decades of saving here and there, but he’s well aware that his overall style leans more casual than dressy.
“Thanks,” he says. “You look absolutely fantastic.”
Ashton glances down and smiles, pleased. Michael likes that he can make him react like that.
“I got you flowers,” Ashton says. “I hope you aren’t allergic. It wouldn’t be the end of the world, but I’d feel silly.”
“I’m not,” Michael smiles, taking them from him. There are a few sprigs of lily of the valley tucked in amongst the roses and ferns, and he takes a deep inhale. He loves the sweet scent of roses and how lively fresh flowers can appear to be even when they’re dying. Maybe it’s self-centered, but he likes to think there are some similarities between him and the plants. They’re not alive anymore, but they’re still going, and they can still bring people a little bit of joy for a few impermanent moments before moving on.
“I’ll put these in some water. You can step in for a second, if you want.”
He had excessively cleaned the entry and living room earlier in the evening, paranoid in case something like this forced Ashton inside. At least now he’s certain that there’s nothing incriminating lying about.
“Nice place,” Ashton says.
“Thanks,” Michael replies, already booking it for the kitchen to grab a vase. Once he gets there he takes a moment to try to stop the slight shake to his hands and compose himself.
You are an ancient, immortal being who has lived through the fall of empires, he scolds himself. You can handle one date with a cute boy who brought you flowers.
Ashton beams when Michael says he’s ready to go.
“I was thinking we could walk, if that’s okay,” he says while Michael locks the door behind them. “It’s not far.”
“Are you going to tell me where we’re actually going, yet?” Michael asks. Ashton mimes zipping his lips. The only information he gave Michael was that it’s going to be a pretty casual setting (and yet he showed up to Michael’s door looking like that) and that Michael won’t have to eat. That’s something he specifically requested, making up a bunch of excuses about being gluten free and severely lactose intolerant and giving a list of other allergens a mile long.
“You’ll find out soon enough,” Ashton laughs when he pouts. “Come on.”
He grabs Michael’s hand to start leading him down the street, and Michael absolutely will not admit to himself how nice it feels, warm and alive against his.
They go through some basic small talk on the way there, touching on current work projects since they’re in different departments and learning a bit more about each other’s families. Michael makes an excuse about his being in Australia and tells Ashton about Calum instead, and Ashton fills time by describing his mom and siblings. It’s cute to see the way he lights up, seeming radiant in the light of the setting sun that Michael has to squint harshly against.
“Wow, you really don’t like the sun,” Ashton says eventually.
“What? Oh, not really, I guess.”
“I should’ve known, but I wasn’t sure if all of you are fully nocturnal or not.”
“What?” Michael asks, alarm bells ringing. “Why would you--what makes you say that?”
Ashton shrugs nonchalantly.
“You know. You’re just so pale and pasty,” he says, obvious tease in his voice. “Definitely closer to a creature of the night than an early bird, I’d guess.”
He’s joking. Ashton has not, somehow, discovered his secret ten minutes into their first date.
“Oh fuck you,” he laughs. “Not all of us can have perfect natural tans. I burn really easily.”
“Do you glow in the dark, too? Turn fluorescent under blacklights?”
“Shut up,” Michael says, but he leans a little into Ashton as he says it to let him know that the banter isn’t unwelcome.
“I suppose we’ll find out soon enough.”
Michael doesn’t have a chance to ask what he means before Ashton is pulling him towards the doors of a large building. He holds it open for him like a gentleman, and Michael misses the contact of their hands but appreciates having all of his senses free to process the new environment, which is full of a plethora of new sights, sounds, and smells.
“Roller skating?” Michael asks, looking around the large arena. It’s dim, but his eyes adjust immediately to take in the wondrously tacky carpet outside the rink, highlighted in brief bursts by rotating colorful lights. Loud music plays over the speakers, and in the arena people in small groups or pairs are making their way around the track. He can smell fried food and various types of beverages coming from a bar in the corner, mingling with the scent of unfamiliar people. He takes it all in for a moment, then dials back his senses to make it more bearable.
“It’ll be fun,” Ashton says. “Willing to give it a go?”
“Definitely.”
They go get their skates, and Ashton pays for the shoe rental and the entrance fee. Michael hasn’t been roller skating in probably around a decade, and he’s excited Ashton picked this as their date location. So many date ideas these days have to do with food, the only thing Michael absolutely can’t participate in, but Ashton found something that will hopefully be fun while still allowing them to talk and get to know each other better.
“Ready?” Ashton asks. Michael nods, and then they step out into the rink.
Ashton, it turns out, is worse at roller skating than Michael is. That makes sense, because Michael did it a lot in the 70s and 90s and has gone a few times since to keep it fresh, and Ashton isn’t awful, but there are a few instances where he wobbles and his hand immediately reaches out to grab at Michael’s arm before he rebalances and apologizes. Michael laughs at him good naturedly and does a few circles around him until Ashton huffs and Michael slips an arm through his.
“Come on,” Michael says. “Once you’re used to this in about fifteen minutes, I’ll race you around the track.”
Michael wins the first race, but Ashton wins the second, although Michael is giggling too much for it to count, in his opinion. They spend a lot of time making laps and talking, and Michael skates backwards to show off at every opportunity while Ashton dances to the songs that come on over the speakers to make him laugh. It’s one of the best nights Michael has had in a long time, and by the time they leave they’re both walking slowly, stretching their time together as much as possible.
“I had a really good time tonight,” Ashton says when they finally reach Michael’s door. His front light makes the glitter under Ashton’s eyes sparkle, and Michael technically doesn’t have to breathe, but his breath still catches.
“Me too,” he says, shoving his hands in his pockets.
“So...do you want to do this again?” Ashton asks.
“Yeah, I’d like that a lot. I’ll take you out, next time.”
“Okay,” Ashton smiles, ducking his head. Michael catches a faint blush on his cheeks, blood rushing up to color them, and he loves that he sees Ashton like this. At work, he’s always cool and level-headed, confident in what he says and strong in his opinions. Michael has managed to turn him bashful, and that is possibly the best thing to come out of the date.
“I should let you get on with your night,” Ashton says eventually. Michael tries to find some sort of excuse to get him to stay, but then Ashton leans forward and presses his lips to Michael’s cheek, soft and lingering. When he takes a step back, Michael wants to pull him in again to memorize the scent of his skin and feel of his warmth.
“Good night,” Ashton says.
“Night,” Michael makes himself reply. Ashton smiles again, then sets off down the street. Michael watches him, smiling when he glances back and waves again, and continues to stand on his front stoop until Ashton is fully out of sight, even for him.
His phone buzzes as soon as he steps inside, and Michael pulls it out in case it’s something important or work related (or Ashton).
Cal: how was the date? or are you two still going…?
Michael: really fucking good
2.
On the third date, Michael gets to see the inside of Ashton’s apartment.
Michael took them stargazing for their second date. There was a meteor shower he wanted to try to watch, anyway, and he found a good spot outside the city where it would be mostly visible. Ashton likes being outdoors, and Michael doesn’t mind it at night, so he drove them out of the city, made the trek up a hill, and laid out a blanket for them to cuddle up in. All in all, it was a great night. Even the car ride to and from the location was amazing, because Michael told Ashton to make a playlist for it and they spent the entire time discussing favorite songs. Ashton is such a snob about it sometimes, since he’s a music journalist and is always evaluating in his head, but there were a few surprises that he put on there simply because “good music doesn’t always have to be good music, Michael.”
Ashton kissed him on the cheek again when Michael walked him to his door. Michael thinks that something so simple shouldn’t occupy so much space in his thoughts, but he’s been replaying it in his head over and over. It’s a little distracting at work, especially when he gets one of Ashton’s articles to upload to the website.
They head to Ashton’s right after they both clock out. Ashton doesn’t live far and typically walks (he really likes walking places, Michael has noticed), but Michael drives them so he’ll have his car handy at the end of the night. It’s a relatively nice building, and Ashton holds the lobby door open for him, which counts enough as an invite to allow him to enter. They take the elevator up to the fifth floor, then Ashton unlocks his door and steps in.
From what Michael can see, it’s a nice apartment. The entry, kitchen, and living room flow easily together, and there’s a hallway off to the side that Michael assumes leads to the bathroom and bedrooms.
He can’t step over the threshold. He hasn’t been invited in this time, not explicitly enough for him to freely enter despite knowing that Ashton wants him there.
“My roommate is out for the night. I swear I cleaned before I left for work today,” Ashton says, puttering around the living room and picking up what looks like a stray sock, righting the pillows on the couch and straightening some books on the coffee table. Michael leans against the doorframe and watches him. Fluffing the pillows doesn’t really matter to Michael, but if it makes Ashton feel better it’s no hardship on him.
Ashton finishes, then glances around until he spots Michael still in the hall.
“Oh. I didn’t really invite you in, did I.”
“It would’ve been the polite thing to do,” Michael teases. “I’d hate to intrude, you know.”
“We wouldn’t want that,” Ashton says, coming forward and taking both of Michael’s hands in his. “Michael Clifford, I formally invite you into my home. You are welcome here whenever you’d like.”
“A simple ‘hey, come in,’ would’ve been sufficient, but thanks,” he laughs, stepping forward.
“Absolutely not,” Ashton says. “If you’re going to be vampiric about entering my home, I’m going to treat you with the proper respect, Count Clifford.”
Apparently the vampire jokes are going to be a thing. Michael can work with that, instead of panicking over it. If he turns it into a bit, maybe Ashton will brush things off longer.
“Thank you, mortal. Now, I vant to suck your blood,” he says, exaggerating the awful stereotypical (absolutely false and insulting) accent. It gets a laugh from Ashton, though, which is what he wanted.
“If you manage to beat me at chess, I’ll let you,” Ashton says.
Michael hasn’t let himself think about Ashton’s blood. He can control himself very easily around humans, and bloodlust isn’t really a thing with him unless he hasn’t eaten in over a week. He has a specific concoction that he picks up from the magic shop like clockwork, a mixture of animal blood, some herbs, a few drops of human blood (humanely donated), and whatever the fuck is the flavor for that batch, but that doesn’t mean he’s completely forgotten how amazing it tastes to drink pure, living blood. It’s incredibly intimate, and Michael hasn’t been that close with a human in a very, very long time.
“Okay,” he chokes, once the silence has stretched on too long. Ashton quirks an eyebrow at him, but moves to get the board games without comment.
Michael loves board games. He loves all games, really, and he mostly deals with video games now to keep as up to date as possible (and because he doesn't have to invite friends over to play most of them). What’s nice about games, though, is that they can change every time. Michael has been playing chess since it was invented, but he’s never played against Ashton, and it’s going to be an entirely new experience.
Unfortunately, Ashton is extremely good at chess.
“What the fuck,” Michael says, king toppling after a five-move checkmate.
“Darn,” Ashton replies, faux innocent. “I guess there’ll be no bloodsucking tonight.”
“Wait, I want a rematch. I’m good at chess, I swear.”
Ashton wins twice more before they move on to another game. They cycle through a few before landing on a card game from Ashton’s family, one that Michael hasn’t heard of or played before. It has a lot of complicated rules, and Ashton walks him through it slowly. If Michael feints misunderstanding more than necessary just to have Ashton’s focus on him, leaning close to look at his cards and explain the best moves, then that’s his business.
Michael doesn’t realize how much time has passed until Ashton’s stomach grumbles loud enough for him to hear.
“How is it already nine o’clock?” he asks. “Shit, you haven’t eaten yet. You could’ve had something.”
Ashton just shakes his head.
“I’m not going to eat in front of you if I don’t have anything to feed you, too,” he says. Michael wishes it were possible for him to digest human food, because while Ashton does have a nice amount of blood he could tap into with permission, somehow Michael doesn’t think that’s on the table
“I have a weird meal schedule, anyway,” he says. “I eat a really big lunch, then only something small late at night. I really don’t mind.”
“I’ll remember that for future reference,” Ashton says. “Although someday I hope you let me feed you.”
It is such a good thing that breathing is an option for Michael, rather than a requirement. Ashton may not have any clue how what he’s saying sounds, but that doesn’t mean Michael isn’t affected.
“We’ll see,” he says, although there’s no chance that’ll ever happen. “I should probably head home, anyway.”
Ashton checks the time.
“You can stay longer if you want. My roommate will be back soon, but he wouldn’t mind.”
Michael wants to stay, but he’s not sure he’d ever leave if he did.
“I think I’ll go. I’m not sure we’re at the “meeting the roommates” stage yet.”
Michael stands, and Ashton follows to walk him out.
“I had a good time. Again,” Ashton says as they walk down the stairs.
“Me too, even if I think you were somehow cheating at chess.”
“Hey,” Ashton complains, then pauses. “I was going to say that jealousy isn’t a good look on you, but everything is a good look on you.”
“Shut up,” Michael says. “That’s not true at all. I have made some bad fashion choices in the past.”
“I’ll believe it when I see it,” Ashton says. Michael wishes he could show him the pictures from the 80s, as embarrassing as they are. They reach the bottom landing entirely too soon, but Ashton walks him out to the parking deck until they’re standing next to his car.
“So,” Ashton says, squaring his shoulders. “We’ve been on three dates so far, and I really like you, Michael. Hanging out with you has been some of the most fun I’ve had in a long time. I was wondering if you wanted to officially be my boyfriend.”
Fuck. The smart thing would be to cut this off now, before either of them get too attached, because Michael already thinks it would absolutely shatter his non-existent heart if Ashton found out and thought he was a monster.
“Absolutely,” he says instead, because he’s an idiot who wants what he can’t have. “These past few dates have been the most fun I’ve had in a long time, too.”
Ashton beams, like the sun breaking through clouds. He has dimples, and Michael really wants to press his fingers into the divots. He just wants to touch Ashton everywhere, really, to feel the soft skin and know that there’s blood bringing heat to it from his heart to every corner and crevice.
There’s something so absolutely tantalizing about how alive Ashton is. Michael knows that he can’t be more like him, not even if he was actually alive still, but he’s content to have him near. He’d be content to watch from a distance, honestly, but if Ashton wants him close then Michael is going to stay close.
He should not be this whipped after only the third date.
“Well,” he says once they’ve spent too much time grinning at each other silently.
“I should let you go,” Ashton says. “I’ll text you.”
“I’d like that,” Michael says. He goes to open his car door, but Ashton’s hand on his wrist stops him. He leans forward and to kiss Michael on the cheek, just like the past two dates, but this time it lands a bit lower and closer to the middle. The corner of his mouth hits Michael’s and lingers there for just a second longer than he can bear.
“For fucks sake,” he breathes, then slots their lips together properly. Ashton smiles into the kiss before he can get it under control and properly kiss back. Maybe it’s dramatic to say that this kiss feels like it’s filling some hole in Michael that he didn’t know was vacant, but Michael is a dramatic guy, and there’s something special about the way their noses bump and how instinctual it is to shift closer. Michael doesn’t really want it to end, so he gives Ashton another peck before pulling away fully. Ashton’s eyes take a moment to flutter open.
It’s definitely far too early to be in love, but Michael is very self-aware after being around for so long, and he knows he’s going to have to actively try not to fall head-over-heels for Ashton.
“Have a good night, Ashton,” Michael says.
“You too. Drive safe.”
Michael keeps his composure as he pulls out of the parking space, aware of Ashton’s eyes on him. He manages to keep it together all the way home, actually, but the moment his door shuts behind him he’s leaning against it, giddy with a crush and wondering what he’s just gotten himself into.
3.
Movie nights become a bit of a thing. It’s a low-maintenance way to spend time together, and sometimes they’re both too tired after grueling work days or hard weeks to be around a lot of people. Michael’s house has a pretty nice tv, and he has an extensive movie collection, including some horrible b-movies on VHS that Ashton finds endlessly amusing. A lot of Michael’s favorite moments are spent snuggled up on the couch under Ashton’s arm or with his feet in his lap, watching the way the light from the screen plays off of his face more than the movie itself.
Ashton hasn’t seen the Twilight movies, which is almost a travesty. Michael watched all of them in theaters with Calum, both of them weirdly captivated with how completely bonkers and inaccurate they are, and they’ve seen them often enough to quote them almost completely to each other at the drop of a hat. Michael is tired today, and he wants something he doesn’t have to pay much attention to.
He sleeps significantly less than humans do, but that doesn’t mean that staying up for the past week and a half straight was a good idea. He was also on his feet more than usual at work, and everything is hurting a little. His body has better-than-average healing, but it’s also over a few centuries old. Today, he’s feeling it.
Edward has just gotten the first sniff of Bella and looks like he’s about to puke when Ashton turns to him. Michael is leaning against the corner of the couch, head lolling to the side and feet tucked up next to him. He’s been looking at Ashton and letting his thoughts drift, and he should probably be more embarrassed than he is that he was caught at it.
“What’s up with you today?” Ashton asks. “You’re suspiciously quiet.”
“Tired,” Michael says. “My feet hurt.”
“I can help with one of those things,” he says. “Give me your feet.”
“What?”
Ashton gestures until Michael uncurls, stretching his legs out until his feet land in Ashton’s lap. He starts at Michael’s ankles, gently rubbing and then moving to the bottoms of his feet. Michael jumps when he presses down on a particularly tight tendon, but it’s already feeling leagues better.
“I can’t believe you’re touching my feet,” he groans as Ashton presses a knuckle into the center, making his toes curl. “That’s so gross.”
Ashton snorts.
“I don’t mind, but I’ll wash my hands after if it makes you feel better. I just want to make you feel good.”
Michael’s face would be completely inflamed if he had the blood for it.
“Shut up. This better not be a fetish for you.”
Ashton laughs this time, a full belly laugh that Michael would enjoy hearing more if it didn’t make him stop the massage.
“Would that be a deal breaker?” he giggles when he’s calmed down enough. Michael takes a moment to evaluate if he’s actually joking or not, because he really likes Ashton and has loved being his boyfriend for the past couple of months, but feet might be where he draws the line.
“No, I don’t have a foot fetish,” Ashton says after a moment of Michael staring at him like a deer in the headlights. Michael lets out a sigh of relief. He can be adventurous about stuff like that, and he’s been around long enough to try basically everything, but someone being aroused by his feet will always be just a little too weird.
“Do you have any embarrassing fetishes or kinks?” Ashton asks conversationally. “Just… for future reference, if that’s something you want.”
They haven’t done anything besides some lazy making out, which Michael is grateful for. He likes that they’re taking their time with it. He doesn’t want to rush this, but the thought has crossed his mind before.
He swallows. Ashton’s alternating between glancing at the tv and paying attention to his massage, and Michael doesn’t know if he should be grateful that he’s not trapped under that gaze or upset that he doesn’t have Ashton’s full undivided attention.
“Nothing embarrassing,” Michael says. “I’m open to a lot of things, but I really like being taken care of. I’ve been told I can be demanding and needy. Sometimes I like… being held down, I guess. Nothing excessive, but…”
He’s an extra-strong, extra-resilient being. Every time he feels like someone else has the control, it’s a special kind of rush.
Ashton glances at him from under his eyelashes, the blue-green light from the tv casting strange and otherworldly shadows over his face. Michael swallows thickly again.
“I like taking care of my partner, so that works out,” Ashton says. Michael nods. Ashton turns back to the tv and tilts his head in consideration, putting his neck on full display.
“You know,” he says, “I never really was into biting, but now…” He trails off, then brings a finger up to his neck, tracing along the length of it subconsciously. At least, Michael hopes that it’s subconscious. The air is thick with tension, and if Ashton is doing this on purpose than he knows a lot more about Michael than he’s let on.
“It might be nice to be marked up a bit,” Ashton says. He glances at Michael, the corner of his mouth turning up in a small smile. “Maybe Bella had the right idea, going after a vampire.”
Michael snorts and the tension dissipates like a balloon popping.
“I hardly think anyone in this movie counts as a real vampire.”
“You don’t think real vampires sparkle in the sun?” Ashton asks. “Darn. What’s the point of vampires if you have to dump glitter on them for the sparkle effect?”
“You’re an idiot,” Michael laughs.
“I’m the idiot? You’re the one who’s all the way over there when you have a perfectly good boyfriend right here who’s ready to cuddle you.”
Michael rolls his eyes and shifts to tuck himself against Ashton’s side.
“Happy?” he asks.
“Very,” Ashton says, taking a blanket from the back of the couch and draping it over them. It’s cozy. Michael sighs in contentment.
“Do your feet feel a little better?” Ashton asks, pressing a kiss to the top of his head.
“Yeah, thanks.”
“If you want to take a nap now, you can.”
Michael hums and seeks out Ashton’s other hand, tangling their fingers together sloppily. He’s tired, but he probably won’t drift off. He has all night for a power nap, and right now he doesn’t want to miss a second of his time with Ashton.
4.
The door bangs shut behind them, and Michael doesn’t have a moment to reorient himself before Ashton is on him again, lips incessantly seeking his and body caging him against the wall. Michael’s own hands are already slipping under his shirt, desperate to feel the warm expanse of his back and pull him even closer. He’s always run cold, even before he was turned, but right now he feels like he’s burning up from the inside out, flames igniting with every point of contact between them. Ashton gets a hand in his hair and tugs, and Michael makes a noise he wasn’t expecting to come out of him.
Don’t drop your fangs, don’t drop your fangs, don’t drop your fangs, he repeats to himself. It’s typically effortless to keep his fangs retracted and unnoticable, but he hasn’t done this with someone he truly likes in a very, very long time. He can’t allow himself to get so mindlessly overwhelmed that they slip down.
Ashton detaches their lips to take a breath, and Michael takes the opportunity to trail kisses over his jawline and down the column of his throat. Ashton hums into it, the sound reverberating through his vocal chords, and Michael nips at his throat to turn the hum into a groan, sucking at it again to ease the sting.
There’s a particular feeling of satisfaction at leaning back briefly to take in his progress, knowing that the blood is pooling just under the surface of Ashton’s skin. When he returns to his ministrations with a slightly harsher bite, Ashton jolts, rocking into him.
“Fuck, Michael,” he breathes.
“What do you want to do tonight?” Michael asks between kisses, trailing over his collarbones now because Ashton never buttons his fucking shirts.
“Anything. Everything. I--” He’s cut off by another groan that dissolves into a breathless laugh. “You’re so fucking distracting; get back up here.”
He tugs on Michael’s hair again, guiding their mouths together. It’s easier than breathing to let Ashton take control, and Michael could stand here all night and let himself be kissed against the wall if there weren’t other things he wanted to be doing in the bedroom. Still, he whines when Ashton pulls away.
“I know you don’t sleep, and I’ll keep up as much as I can,” Ashton pants. “I can’t fucking wait to take you apart.”
“So do it,” Michael says, not able to care about how desperate he sounds. “No one’s stopping you.”
“You’re such a mouthy little shit,” he says, leaning back in for a kiss that Michael feels all the way down to his toes. They don’t part again until they’re in the bedroom and falling onto the mattress.
-/-
Afterwards, Michael watches, amused, as Ashton fights to keep his eyes open. They never turned on the lights, but Michael can see just fine with his vampire eyesight and the early rays of sunshine beginning to paint the sky outside in pinks and oranges.
“Just go to sleep,” Michael laughs, tracing another mindless pattern onto Ashton’s ribs. “We’re done. I can’t handle anything else.”
“Weird to sleep when you’re not,” he mumbles, eyes already slipping closed again. “Can feel you watching me.”
“I won’t watch you,” Michael says. “I’ll probably fall asleep right after.”
Ashton snorts halfheartedly. Michael rolls his eyes, then nudges Ashton onto his side and fits himself behind him. Ashton sighs and relaxes again almost immediately, a heavy weight at his front while Michael slides one arm under the pillow and anchors them together with the other. He gets a great view of Ashton’s sweaty and tangled hair, and that’s about it.
“There,” Michael murmurs. “Now I can’t watch you. Happy?”
Ashton hums. He’ll be out in less than a minute.
Regardless of all of Ashton’s jokes about Michael never sleeping (he resents that he looks tired enough at all times for that to be an assumption), Ashton managed to tire him out. He doesn’t need to sleep right now, but there’s no harm in it. He lets the steady push and pull of Ashton’s breathing and the heartbeat he can barely feel under his palm lull him, and he drifts off soon after.
5.
“You want me to meet your family?” Michael asks, eyes wide in the face of this new information.
“If you’re comfortable with it,” Ashton says nonchalantly, but the way he’s avoiding Michael’s eyes tells him this conversation is anything but casual. He’s focused on throwing things into a blender, raspberries and peaches joining ice cubes and yogurt for a smoothie that Michael has watched him make dozens of times before. Michael can drink smoothies if they’re blended enough, and honestly he’s got a bit of a blood hunger going on because the last batch of his concoction from the magic store tasted gross and he’s supposed to go in today to get the new one. Still, a smoothie wouldn’t help with that, and he turned down Ashton’s offer in favor of a cup of coffee, wanting a warm mug in his hands. He’s glad to have something to keep his arms from flailing at this new curveball, in any case.
Ashton turns on the blender, the angry sound filling the previously-serene morning.
He can’t meet Ashton’s mum and siblings. He’s a vampire, and he’s already entirely too attached to Ashton as it is. It’s easy to fantasize about revealing his secret and Ashton being okay with it when it’s just the two of them, but there’s no way he can get to know his family only to break their heart when he has to leave Ashton for his own good.
Michael can’t watch Ashton grow old without him. He could do it for a few years, maybe a few decades, and he wants to spend as much time with him as possible, but eventually it would get too hard. Michael’s good at running, and he’s good at being alone. It’s harder to do both of those things with a family involved.
“That’s a big step,” Michael says once the blender stops.
“I’ve met Calum, and you said he’s closer than your family.”
“Against my will!”
Calum had insisted on meeting “the guy who’s got you wrapped around his finger,” and Michael had been powerless to stop it. They get on like a house fire and Michael gets teased about five times more than he used to, but he secretly loves it. Calum and Ashton are by far the two people he loves most in the world, and it’s nice to see them also enjoy each other.
“Michael,” Ashton says, pouring his smoothie into a glass and still refusing to look at him, something unfamiliar in his expression, “I’ve never gone this long without introducing them to someone I’m serious about. They really want to meet you.”
“I--I want to meet them, too, but…”
Ashton sighs and finally faces him head-on. Michael has never felt this small.
“Are you serious about us?”
“Of course,” he says, but it comes out more like a question, and he watches something shutter in Ashton’s eyes. He turns back to the blender, starting to dismantle it so he can rinse it properly, always trying to keep the kitchen neat, and Michael knows that he has to say something to try to fix this, anything to stop the sad slope of Ashton’s shoulders and that hurt look in his eyes.
“Ash, I have to tell you something,” he says before he can think twice. Ashton hums, and Michael steels himself for whatever reaction is about to occur, whether he has to bolt for the door or not. “I--um, well, I…”
He hasn’t had to confess to someone in over forty years. He doesn’t know how to do it anymore. He swallows and tries again.
“I don’t really know how to say this, but… I mean, I--”
“Shit,” Ashton exclaims, something clattering in the sink.
“What’s wrong?” Michael asks, and a second later the metallic tang of blood reaches his nose.
“Cut my thumb on the blender blades,” Ashton says, turning around and sticking the pad of his thumb in his mouth. Michael stares at him, unable to move.
The thing is, Ashton’s blood smells really good. He knew it would, because if he loves everything else about Ashton it makes sense that he would love him down to the blood in his veins and the DNA it carries, but this is the first time Ashton has split skin in his vicinity, and it’s more to handle than Michael thought it would be. He’s hungry, and he’s upset, and Ashton is right there in front of him, bleeding.
He shakes himself from that train of thought.
“Are you alright? How bad is it?” he asks. Ashton takes his thumb out of his mouth to check, and that just makes the smell intensify. Michael feels a bit of saliva pool in his mouth and swallows it back.
“It’s not too bad,” Ashton says. “It mostly just hurts, but once the bleeding lessens I’ll put a bandaid on it and it should be fine.”
He goes to put it back in his mouth and glances up at Michael, freezing at whatever he sees there. Michael doesn’t know what his face is doing, or why his posture feels so stiff, or what the fuck he’s supposed to do with Ashton just standing there with a bleeding thumb, and for a long moment they just stare at each other. Michael forgets to breathe.
Slowly, like he’s coaxing a startled animal towards him, Ashton reaches out his hand towards Micheal. A drop of blood drips off his thumb and onto the floor. Michael couldn’t move even if he wanted to.
“You know,” Ashton says, low and calm, “you could help me stop the bleeding, if you wanted.”
Michael stares at him, not comprehending the words, when he feels two pinpricks on the inside of his bottom lip.
His fangs dropped.
“I have to go,” he says, scrambling out of his seat and hastily putting his coffee on the table. He probably spills some, but he can’t look back to check, shoving on his shoes and sprinting out the door, Ashton’s questions echoing behind him.
Shit. Shit shit shit shit shit.
He’s scrambling for his phone as he tries to unlock his car, tears starting to cloud his vision with the panic. He presses Calum’s speed dial as soon as he gets the door open, tearing out of the parking space without putting on his seatbelt.
“Hello?” Calum finally answers.
“My fangs dropped,” he says, consonants coming out in that strange way they do when his mouth has more teeth than usual.
“What happened?” Calum asks immediately. He knows how serious something like this can be, especially for someone like Michael, who tries so hard to avoid it. He sniffles and blinks the tears out of his eyes so he can see the road better. Calum’s house is close, and he just needs to get a few more blocks before he has backup.
“I was with Ashton and he cut himself on a blender. I--we had a fight, or--I made him feel bad, in any case, and I haven’t eaten enough, and then he cut himself and I felt the fangs and ran out of there with no explanation. He’s going to hate me. I’ve ruined everything!”
“I’m sure that’s not true,” Calum says, but it’s not like Ashton is his boyfriend. Michael doesn’t know how to recover from something like this.
Calum tries to console him for the rest of the short car ride, stopping once Michael pulls into his driveway to turn an assessing gaze on him instead. His expression tells Michael that he’s leaving much to be desired right now.
“Alright, Mikey. Let’s get you out of the sun, yeah? We’ll figure this out.”
He holds out his arms, and Michael falls right into them, letting Calum lead him into the house. His fangs still prick at his lips, a sharp reminder of everything he ruined due to one second of lousy control.
+1
The bell to the magic shop digs as they enter, and Michael pulls down his sunglasses. Calum got him to stop crying and gave him a bit of his own leftover concoction, because he hadn’t drunk all of it due to the taste, either. It was enough for Michael to be able to get his fangs back under control, but it doesn’t stop how miserable he feels about the way he left, or the conversation they were having beforehand.
He can’t let himself be around Ashton if his fangs are going to drop like that. He would never hurt him, he knows that, but there’s still the potential that he can’t ignore. Ashton’s safety and comfort isn’t something he can risk. Even if Ashton was somehow okay with him being a vampire, they wouldn’t work.
Michael has known this since the beginning. He let himself fall in love, anyway.
There are three missed calls and over a dozen text messages that he still has to try to answer on his phone. There’s no way to do that without breaking both of their hearts, but Calum told Ashton that Michael is physically okay and that he’d talk to him tomorrow. For now, he needs to sort through his own feelings and calm down, and for that they need to pick up the weekly blood supply.
“Hi!” the witch at the counter says. His name is Luke, and Calum’s been flirting with him ever since he started working there. It would be cute if it didn’t make these excursions so tedious, and if Michael himself wasn’t currently mourning what is soon to be the end of an absolutely spectacular relationship.
“Our usual, please,” he says curtly. Luke glances between him and Calum, who gives a beaming smile, then heads to the back storage room.
“Maybe it’ll taste less like shit this time,” he mutters. Calum nudges him, but doesn’t get the chance to say anything before the bell over the door chimes again. Michael knows who it is before he turns around, the scent and rhythm of his heartbeat as familiar to him as the back of his own hand.
Ashton freezes in the doorway. He has changed into a sweatshirt, the one he wears when he’s having a bad day because it feels like a perpetual hug without having to be touched, and Michael is probably going to cry again. Out of the three of them, Calum pulls himself together first.
“Hello, Ashton. I didn’t know you frequented this shop.”
“Ashton!” Luke says, returning from the back with their order in a crate. “Did you bring it?”
Michael finally notices the tupperware in his hands when he hands it to Luke, who opens a corner and sniffs.
“You know each other?” Michael asks.
“Oh, sorry!” Luke says. “This is Ashton, my roommate. I’d never eat lunch if he wasn’t there to bring it to me.”
“You’re the roommate?” Michael asks. In all of their months of dating, he never managed to meet the roommate, even though Ashton has known Calum for weeks. Weird schedules and Michael’s aversion to meeting and possibly getting attached to more people prevented it. Luke looks between Michael, Calum, and Ashton, and then a lightbulb hits.
“You’re Ashton’s Michael!”
“How many other vampires named Michael do you know?” Ashton asks, and Michael reels back, Calum’s hand on his spine the only thing keeping him upright.
“You know?” Ashton frowns.
“Michael, I’ve known since the first day I met you.”
“Wh--you never mentioned it!”
“I made some references, then figured it wasn’t something you were comfortable talking about.”
“Wait,” Luke says. “You know Ashton is a minor deity, right?”
“What? ”
Michael turns desperately to Calum, because none of this makes sense, but Calum is having some sort of silent conversation with Luke.
“You two need to talk,” he says eventually.
“I need to show Calum something in the back, anyway,” Luke says, grabbing Calum’s sleeve and tugging him around the counter, shutting the door to the storeroom behind them. It’s not the slickest move that Michael’s ever seen, but he’s having a crisis and can’t be bothered to laugh at Luke for it.
“So,” Ashton says. “It seems there’s been a bit of miscommunication here.”
“You’re a deity?” Michael asks. Ashton starts to blush, which is cute. He clasps his hands together and nods once.
“Yeah, my entire family is. The religion died down centuries ago, so it’s mostly our belief in each other that’s keeping us alive. I’m basically just an immortal human now, but I’ve been around long enough to recognize other non-humans when I see them.”
“And you’ve known I was a vampire the entire time?” he asks. Ashton nods. “Oh.”
“I thought that you knew that I knew,” he says.
“I didn’t,” Michael says. “I thought you would hate me when you found out.”
“I could never hate you,” Ashton says, taking a step forward and reaching for him before he aborts the movement. Michael looks at his feet and wonders if what he says next will change that.
“My fangs dropped earlier, when you cut your thumb.” His voice is steadier than anticipated, but he can’t help but brace himself for Ashton to back away or run screaming. He doesn’t do either of those.
“Is that why you left so quickly?”
He nods, shame pooling in his stomach.
“I was offering, you know? I wouldn’t have minded if you had a taste.”
“But I didn’t know that at the time,” Michael says, focusing on the shame so he doesn’t do something horrible like start thinking about what it would really be like to have some of Ashton’s blood. “I just… lost control. I can’t do that. I won’t let myself.”
“I think you’re being a little hard on yourself,” Ashton says gently, stepping closer until he can put his hands on Michael’s arms, then sliding down to grasp his hands. “Can you look at me?” Michael tries, then shakes his head. “That’s okay, and your fangs dropping earlier is okay, too. You had a lot on your mind, were probably a little hungry, and I was waving my bloody finger under your nose, even if you didn’t recognize it as an invitation. What’s important is that you didn’t try anything without asking. You didn’t hurt me; you removed yourself from the situation. I would say that that’s keeping things pretty under control, wouldn’t you?”
“But I could’ve hurt you, even if I didn’t.”
“Michael, you’re not a mindless beast,” Ashton says. “The fact that you’re this upset about your body’s natural physical reaction shows that. You’re not going to do anything to hurt someone else like that. You have to trust yourself.”
Michael wrinkles his nose, then finally makes himself meet Ashton’s eyes. There’s nothing but compassion there, no fear or disgust.
“You’re not going to hurt anyone,” Ashton repeats.
“I’m not going to hurt anyone,” Michael agrees. “I can trust myself with that.”
A grin breaks out on Ashton’s face.
“Good,” he says. “I trust you, too.”
“And, about meeting your family,” Michael starts.
“Don’t worry about that,” Ashton says. “I was a little pushy. We can talk about it and figure out something that works for both of us.”
“I was going to say that I’ll do it,” Michael says. “Half of my worry had to do with me being a vampire and you and your family being unsuspecting humans, but that’s not an issue anymore.”
“What about the other half?”
“Just normal meeting-the-family jitters,” he says. “They’re really important to you, and I don’t want them to hate me because I didn’t meet them earlier.”
“They won’t hate you,” Ashton says. “You’re a delight.”
“I hope they share that thought.”
“They will. I love you, so they will, too.”
Michael feels like he’s going to burst. He also feels menally exhausted from this entire affair and the emotional whiplash it’s giving him.
“Can I kiss you?” he asks. Ashton answers by leaning forward, and Michael sinks against him, melting into the feeling.
“So,” Calum says loudly, startling them both. “Are you guys good now?”
“What do you think?” he snips.
“I don’t know, Luke,” Calum says, turning away from Michael and towards him. “Do you think that they’re good now?”
“They did look rather cosy,” Luke says. “In fact, I’d say that Ashton looked ready to pledge himself to Michael as his personal blood bank. His little ketchup packet, if you will.”
Calum bursts out laughing. Michael tries to be affronted, but Ashton starts laughing incredulously next to him.
“Ketchup packet? Is that what I’m reduced to?”
“There are worse titles,” Calum says between bouts of laughter. Luke looks ridiculously pleased at this development.
“Please never refer to him as my ketchup packet again,” Michael says. “I’m begging you not to.”
“If the fangs fit,” Luke says, which makes Calum dissolve into laughter again. It’s not even funny. Honestly, they deserve each other.
“Come on,” Ashton says. “Let’s go back to my place. I want to hear all about your vampire antics from the olden days, now that I know you’re okay with talking about it.”
“Only if I get to hear stories about being a minor deity,” Michael says, grabbing his part of the blood order. “Cal, you’re paying for this one!”
They’re out the door before Calum can protest, and Ashton puts an arm around his waist as they walk. It’s uncomfortably sunny out, but Michael feels no rush to get back inside. They’re both immortal, and they’ve got the rest of their lives.

100 Days to Animal Crossing Challenge!
In the spirit of the countdown to New Leaf (remember when? :’) ), and to help wile away the days, here’s 100 questions for every day until New Horizons is here! Enjoy!
1. Do you prefer making up a new name for your villager, or using your own name? I always name my villager after myself. I go for the immersion!
2. Do you use the first map you’re given, or do you reset for layouts? I used to reset for layouts, until I started hacking. In New Horizons, I'll just be resetting for fruit!
3. Do you use the face you’re given, or do you wait for guides and choose your favourite? I would look for guides. Even with hacking, it's easier to just start with the face you want.
4. Favourite town/island name?/Have you a name picked out for your town/island? My favorite town name that I've seen so far is Lunaire. I don't want to share my town name just yet. It's nothing revolutionary or anything but its personal I guess?
5. Will you be sharing with friends/family, or is your island going to be all your own? I will be having my own island! My husband will have his own island as well. He says we'll spend most of our time in my island though lol
6. What’s a new feature you’re excited about? T E R R A F O R M
7. Favourite fruit? Peaches!
8. Least favourite fruit? Pears!
9. Favourite area? (Beach, campground, shopping district etc, from any entry in the series.) My favorite place was the wishing well in ACPG. So cute and sweet. As much as I loved the plaza in ACNL, it's got nothing on the original!
10. Where do you like to like to put your house? Do you like that level of customization, or do you prefer to have some things decided, like in older entries? I like to put my house near waterfalls, its relaxing and good for fishing! I could never get my house near the water in older games, so it was a nice change in ACNL.
11. Favourite grass pattern? Personally, I never really notice the grass patterns!
12. Least favourite grass pattern? See #11 :v
13. Favourite villager/s? My fav villagers are Skye and Punchy 💕
14. Least favourite villager/s? I hate Elise the Monkey

16. Favourite NPC/s? My fav would have to be KK. He's such a cool dude, he's just full of nostalgia for me.
17. Least favourite NPC/s? I don't really have a least favorite? I guess Katie's mom, her lipstick is tacky imo

37. Favourite carpet? I personally love the old board flooring, so simple and rustic!
38. Least favourite carpet? CHEESE
39. Favourite furniture item? The fairy bottle from the Welcome Amiibo update!
40. Will you be buying a Switch for Animal Crossing, or do you already have one? I'm trading in my old switch for the slick new Animal Crossing Switch!

52. Do you collect amiibo cards/figures? Would you like to see them used in the new game? I have all the amiibo cards are all my fav neighbors, and about have of the total amiibo cards that exist. Idk if I'll use them right away and get all my favs or if I'll let my town naturally fill up and then switch folks out yet
53. Fishing Tourney or Bug-Off? Fishing Tourney, I like fishing more
54. Do you like making your own clothing patterns? I used to, but ACPC made me appreciate the already made in game clothes
55. Did you streetpass with many other ACNL players, or is it a feature you didn’t get much use of? I don't get much use out of it nowadays but I would always come back from conventions with a full showcase when I was younger

62. Least favourite villager personality? Jock

69. Which game’s events/holidays do you like least? Days like solstices, which just served as "Isabelle is unavailable" Days
70. Do you have another nice AC related memory you’d like to share (in-game, of the community, etc)? When ACPG came out, I was about 6. I had a DVD with those lame live action commercials and I was ENAMORED with them! Obsessed! I begged my parents for the game and they would hem and haw "well there's a lot of reading... you'll have to get better at reading... we won't always be able to help you read it..." and I swore up and down that I'd learn and practice reading. Obviously, nearly 20 years later, I'm still completely obsessed
71. Do you prefer the “live” versions of K.K. Slider’s Songs, or the airchecks? I like both but for different reasons. The live versions are nice and nostalgic and the air checks are closer to the aesthetic that they're actually trying to portray
72. An NPC you’d like to see more of? Farley and Serena!
73. An NPC you’d like to see less of? None in particular, everyone is pretty well designed imo

77. Do you like coming up with your own town tune/flag, or using what the game gives you/something from a book/tv show/other game, etc? I like doing a sort of japanese "end of school" bell for my town tune, only for the town clock. Idk how I'm gonna do it in this game though...
78. Do you play every day, or every other day/when you feel like it/other? I used to play ACNL everyday, then it got a bit boring. I'm gonna play ACNH literally everyday forever lol
79. Are you the kind of person who starts over after leaving their town for a really long time, or do you try to get right back to it? I tend to restart a lot, but I recently decided to leave my ACNL town with no regrets so I hacked the crap out of it without feeling tacky or cringy
80. Do you remember how you got into the Animal Crossing series? It immediately caught my eye as a 6 year old and its had its grasp on me since
81. Do you like to make up a story for the town/character when you play, or do you just play as yourself? I play as myself but I sorta make a bunch of headcanons for myself and my neighbors and stuff to make it more interesting for me. Sometimes its embarrassing and sometimes I need to tell the people!
82. Favourite dream address / “theme” for a town (pastel, fairytale, forest, horror, etc)? My favorite town has always been Pastelia, although the mayor's name is escaping me atm >m<"

91. Least favourite hourly track? I don't think I have one!
92. Do you prefer to know all about the game before designing your town/island/house, or do you like to wing it? Bro, I've been glued to my phone since the direct came out
93. Another nice Animal Crossing memory? ACNL came out around the time my husband and I started dating, almost exactly at the same time. Now its 8 years later, we're married, and we're gonna play another animal crossing game together finally!
94. Are you excited about same-system multiplayer? Its gonna be great for a lot of people, kinda useless for me though
95. Five more days! Are you going to trade/use amiibo to get your favourite villager, or wait for them to move in themselves/make a new favourite? I think I'll put in my 2 top favs, and then see what comes. Maybe after a few months I'll put everyone in
96. Favourite emotion/Shrunk joke? I don't really like his jokes, but my fav emotions to use are the bashful ones
97. Least favourite emotion/Shrunk joke? Not a fan of his dopey dance
98. Is there a feature you’d like to add to Animal Crossing? I wanna be able to decorate for my neighbors so badly!
99. Is there a feature you’d take away? It kinda seems like a lot of issues were solved in ACNH, I guess we'll see what's leftover as an annoying feature
100. Final day! Any more thoughts? Midnight release at my local gamestop! Gonna be there with a bunch of DOOM fans too! Can't wait!!

musically inclined | boh rhap!roger taylor x f!reader
Summary: The reader is the lead singer of a girl group that mostly preforms covers of songs at local pubs. Roger, John, Brian and Freddie decide to take a break from all their constant shows, enjoying themselves at a pub (where the reader’s band happens to be playing at.)
A/N: so, this is my second Queen fic, so I hope you guys enjoy! The songs that the band covered are Mamma Mia by ABBA (Mamma Mia cover) and Gimme, Gimme, Gimme (A Man After Midnight) by ABBA and Hooked On A Feeling by Blue Swede. I know Gimme came out in the 80′s, but for the sake of this story it came out in the 70′s.
Warnings: Mild language, smoking, drinking
Word Count: 1,631
The amount of glitter on your skin made you feel sticky and itchy. Your eyes were decorated with glittery gold eyeshadow and your lips were covered in a thick paint-like red gloss. You wore high-waisted, wide legged jeans that were embroidered with sunflowers, a yellow button-up that you had tied around your waist, and brown platform boots. You felt anxiety bubbling in your stomach, but it was overflowed with excitement.
“Y/N! We’re on in a few!” Tonya called from outside of the bathroom. Tonya was one of the backup singers and the band’s lead guitarist. “Alright, Ton’.” You called back, turning to yourself and looking in the mirror again. “You got this, Y/N.” You whispered to yourself, holding your head up high. You gave yourself a confident smile, turning away and walking out the bathroom.
Roger climbed through the overcrowded pub, grumbling something under his breath. “Would you be quiet, Darling? You’re going to enjoy yourself tonight, Rog.” Freddie grinned at one of his best friends, clapping his hand on Roger’s back before climbing into a booth directly across the stage.
“Besides, they say the band that’s playing tonight is really good.” Brian said, sliding in on the other side of the booth as Deaky slid next to him. Roger rolled his eyes, sliding next to Freddie. “I have a lot of other things I could be doing right now,” Roger began, turning toward the stage as the band came out. “And I could give you their name’s right now.”
Roger could practically feel the eye roll of the other boys, but he couldn’t keep his eyes off the band. A very pretty girl walked out onto stage, picking the mic up from the stand. She sat down at the piano, adjusting the mic to the stand next to it. He watched her take a deep breath, looking back at her band mates, before beginning to play the notes of the song.
“I’ve been cheated by you since you know when,” She began, her voice soothing his sour mood. “So I made up my mind, it must come to an end. Look at me now, will I ever learn? I don’t know how but I suddenly lose control.”
Roger watched as the woman turned to look at the crowd, the two meeting eyes. She gave him a wink and he felt heat rise to his face.
Roger grinned as he looked over at the woman, drinking his beer as he watched her play the piano gracefully from across the bar. He needed to meet her after the show.
“There’s a fire within my soul...”
The beat kicked in, and the overcrowded pub went wild. The woman stood up from the piano, snatching the microphone from the stand again and walking over to the front of the stage.
“Just one look and I hear a bell ring, just one look and I forget everything.” She sang along happily, swinging her hips to the music. “Mamma mia, here we go again. My, my, how can I resist ya?”
Roger grinned devilishly as he watched her dance and sing across the stage. He needed to meet her after the show.
“How’s everybody feeling tonight?” You asked into the mic, grinning at the positive remarks from the audience. You swung your body, picking up the mic. “Make sure to tip your bartenders tonight, alright?”
“Now are last song for the night is for the single ladies tonight, including myself.” You winked out to the crowd, hearing a few whistles that made your eyes roll internally.
Your drummer, Diana, began the beat of the next song. You hummed along to yourself, waiting for the moment for you to jump in. You looked into the crowd again, locking eyes with the shaggy blonde haired man again. You felt your cheeks get red, glad that you had base on to cover it up.
“Half past twelve, and I’m watching the late show in my flat all alone, how I hate to spend the evening on my own.” You sang softly, tracing your hand down the microphone, knowing the blonde man was watching you.
“Autumn winds, blowing outside the window as I look around the room and it makes me so depressed to see the gloom.”
“There’s not a soul out there,” You sang along with Diana and Tonya singing along with you. “No one to hear my prayer.”
“Gimme! Gimme! Gimme a man after midnight, won’t somebody help me chase these shadows away,” You sang along, listening to the cheers of the audience as you held the mic close to you and waltzed around the stage. You met the eyes of the blonde man once again, smirking as he watched you. You winked at him, watching his face turn as red as it did when you had first winked at him. You watched as his friends began to tease him, making your smirk only grow. “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme a man after midnight, take me through the darkness to the break of the day.”
Roger watched as the band exited the stage, keeping his eyes on the main singer. He took a swig of his beer, turning back to his friends. He needed to meet that woman, or else he knew he would regret it for the rest of his life.
“You had quite the fun tonight, Rog.” Freddie teased, elbowing his companion. Roger rolled his eyes, setting his beer down on the table. “I’m gonna go smoke.” He said, getting up from the booth and walking through the overflowing pub. He made his way towards the back exit, looking around and seeing if anyone could help him find the band.
Roger turned to a well-dressed man, who he recognized as the man who had introduced the band before they preformed. “Excuse me, mate? Know where I could find the band?” He tapped the man’s shoulder. The man turned, exhaustion under his eyes being as clear as his sour mood. “They’re usually out there. They may be packed up by now so I would hurry if you’re trying to catch them.” He said in a monotonous way. Roger nodded as a thank you before beginning to head out to the exit that the man had pointed at.
He smoothed down his hair, making sure that the collar of his shirt was pressed down and that his jacket was straightened. He walked out the exit, only to have the woman’s beautiful voice fill his ears once again.
“IIIIIIIIIIII’m hooked on a feeling, I’m high on believing, that you’re in love with meeee,” You sang along, Diana drumming along against her thighs and Tonya strumming along on her guitar as the three of you sat on the trunk of your car.
The three of you laughed, grinning at each other as you calmed your singing. You took the cigarette from Diana’s mouth, taking a long drag for yourself. You heard the door open, looking over to see the blonde man walking out, hands in his jacket pockets as he searched around before locking eyes with you.
“There’s your lover boy.” Tonya teased, jabbing your side with her elbow. You shot her a dirty look, turning back to the man who was now walking towards you.
“Hey, Di, let’s go get drinks, okay?” Tonya said, reaching past you and tugging on Diana’s sleeve. Diana furrowed her brows in confusion as she looked up at Tonya, raising up the beer that she had in hand. Tonya tilted her head towards the man and Diana’s eyebrows shot up in understanding. “Right! Let’s get drinks!” Diana said, setting her beer down and hopping off the trunk before following Tonya into the pub.
“You did really well out there tonight.” The man said, once he was finally close enough. “Roger. Roger Taylor.” He said, the now familiar devilish grin plastered across his face as he held out his hand. “Thank you.” You smiled, reaching out for his hand and shaking it. “Y/N. Y/N L/N.”
“So, Y/N, still looking for a man for after midnight?” Roger asked, his grin only growing. You rolled your eyes. You had dealt with his type before: cocky, egotistical men who thought they could charm their way into a woman’s pants. Not you though, you were just as clever.
“Not quite midnight, is it though?” You said, feigning innocence as you arched one of your brows. “Besides, wouldn’t want to keep you from all of the millions of ladies who line up at your door, just begging to be fucked by the Roger Taylor.” You kept your composure calm, but the smirk that tugged in your lips was enough to say it all.
Roger raised a brow, the corner of his mouth turning upwards. “You put a dent in my pride, Miss L/N.” He playfully put a hand over his chest, pretending as if he had been struck right in the heart. You couldn’t stop the giggle that escaped your lips and the small smile that was forming across your face. Damn Roger Taylor and his shaggy blonde hair and undeniable charm. Damn him.
“Roger! Roger!” Another man, tall with curly black hair, stood outside the door and called for the blonde man. “C’mon mate! We gotta go!” He yelled, waving for him.
“I think that’s your cue.” You said, your own small smile forming on your lips. Roger sighed, looking down at his shoes before looking back at you. “Maybe I’ll see you around?” He asked, the hopefulness in his eyes too cute to ignore. Damn him.
“Maybe I’ll see you around.” You said back nonchalantly, leaning back against your hands. Roger grinned, turning and running toward the dark-haired man. As you watched him run away you felt a warm, bubbling sensation in your stomach that leaped up and splashed against your heart.

Requested Jade Thirlwall Inspired Baker Boy Outfits
Casual Outfit No.1
Shein Mock Neck Tweed Jumpsuit: £14.99. Who remembers when Zara brought out a collection full of tweed pinafores, co ords and dresses? Inspired by Chanel`s collection at the time they blew everyone's minds away with cheaper alternatives to the designer. These were all the rage back then, and the best thing is they still are. Unfortunately, None of the Zara pieces are available anymore but we did know that Shein had a couple of tweed items on their website. That included this pinafore, It looks designer doesn`t it? It looks like it`s off the high street when in fact it`s only £14.99. Shein is a trusted site to purchase from, Many have and do recommend it so don`t be scared to purchase from them. Continuing reading to see where I`m going with this outfit.
ASOS DESIGN fuller bust long sleeve long sleeve shirt in stretch cotton: £18. Jade loves a white shirt, she loves a shirt in general actually. Her style is very laid back, casual and tomboyish. On the rare occasion does she dress up. So I follow a blogger who I know wore one of those tweed dresses recently and that inspired me to make this outfit. Putting a shirt under the pinafore gives it that modern feeling, that chic and sophisticated young lady coming out in you. Who else is getting Gossip Girl vibes? I understand you might think theirs no Jade inspiration from here but their was a time when she performed on GMA wearing this pinafore dress from Topshop with a pussy bow blouse underneath that is a very similar look to this. But what you can also do is experiment, You don`t have to have a plain boring sleeve..In the summer months you can opt for a bell sleeve top like this one, Or this one,
Collar Bib. Finally, If you wanted to add a bit more glamour or glam to the outfit you can add a bib, No not a babies bib. Collared bibs are collars which you have on shirts but they come separately. Basically you can add a collar to any shirt you want. They used to be all the rage a few years ago but have unfortunately died out. You can get lots of different collars in all sorts of styles and colours with sequins and embellishment. In case your wondering too you don`t have to wear the collared bib on the outside of your top, Simply place it on top of a existing shirt and then add a jumper and no one will even know your wearing a bib.
River Island Black quilted embellished cross body bag: £30. If this outfit hasn`t got Gossip Girls vibes, then it has now. Jade loves a shoulder bag and it wouldn`t be a inspired without one. We decided to go for a shoulder bag because we don`t think a tote bag, or a backpack will go with it, the outfit would lose it`s chicness. So we went for this bag from River Island, Which by the way you can also get in white and pink. This bag gives off Chanel vibes doesn`t it? With it`s quilted black material, gold studs and gold chain. What`s more is that you can get it so much cheaper then a Chanel bag for only £30.
ASOS RAID Dolley Black Patent Heeled Ankle Boots: £34.99. To be honest any boots in this post would go with this outfit. I would also recommend black over the knee boots to go with this outfit as well. Also if you was looking for black boots, I would advise to stay away from sock boots as they are not great support on your feet or ankles and you could topple over and sprain your ankle. So opt for more of the ones that look wider.
Casual Outfit No.2
Stradivarius shirt dress in gingham print: £19.99. Back in 2014 I think Jade was obsessed with this print, This print has slightly died off over the years but it still remains today and now it`s in our post. So as I have stated before Jade`s style is very tomboyish and laid back. Sometimes she also goes for the grunge look as well and we feel as though this dress gives off this vibe. The dress isn't synched in or hasn`t got any fasteners or a belt added to it to make it look neat and perfect, instead it`s just left to hang by itself which is ok, nothing wrong with that. Not everyone wants the world to see a bloated belly. Leaving it free gives it a more casual look, grunge look. Nevertheless you could add a belt, But that would make the dress more shorter, more creased and more cutesy rather then laid back.
Dr Martens Modern Classics Smooth 1460 8-Eye Boots: £130. If this outfit wasn`t grunge enough, it is now. Jade loves her Dr Martens, And so does 90% of the planet I believe. These are expensive but you can get cheaper alternatives on the market.
Casual Wear/Night Outfit No.1
H&M Pleated skirt: £19.99. This skirt is what I think makes this outfit, I took inspiration from Jade`s times she has worn skirts like these like in Australia and during a occasion once a couple of years ago. If you didn`t want the bother of squeezing into something tight like jeans and just wanted to feel comfortable and free then this is for you. As I state above this can either be worn casually or for a night out, you don`t have to dress up to the nines for a night out with friends..What is the point of going on a night out and ruining your £90 dress anyway? If you wanted too you could add a belt for safe measures to make sure you don`t have any mishaps. What`s more is that this skirt comes in a variety of colours and is quite cheap. I`m giving a lot of Gossip Girl vibes in this post arent I? That wasn`t intentional btw.
Zara ALICE IN WONDERLAND ©DISNEY T-SHIRT: £15.99. What`s that I hear? You did not know Zara did such amazing Disney clothes? Oh boy have you been missing out. Not only do Zara do Disney clothes for kids but they do them for adults as well. This Alice In Wonderland shirt is apart of their collection too along with Daffy Duck, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. We decided to add this shirt to this outfit not only because Jade is a massive lover of Disney but because it`s simply amazing and we can`t get enough of it. Dress it up or dress it down, It`s a staple piece of the outfit. I will no doubt reckon you will get loads of compliments on this shirt. So go on ahead and let out your inner child out.
PrettyLittleThing BLACK SATIN BUTTON FRONT SHIRT: £22. We decided to add a alternative shirt to this outfit in case you thought the top was too casual or you rather saved Alice for a tea party. So we opted for a black satin shirt, These particular ones from PLT are popular, Every blogger loves them they are a staple piece and go with everything and anything. They are so popular that PLT have to keep getting them back in stock - You can dress the top up and down, so leave a few buttons unbuttoned or you can button it up. So why be left out, Go on ahead and purchase yourself one. I must not forget too they come in a variety of colours for only £22!.
Topshop Taz Diamante Frame Pouch: £25. We love this purse and we think Jade would love it too? Jade loves a shoulder bag as we stated before, She has a whole array of shoulder bags to choose from for a day/night out. We think she would love this one too because it screams her name, It`s cute and dainty just like herself. Out of all the bags I have on offer in this post today this is the one she would wear the most, 100% guaranteed.
Casual Outfit/Night Out No.1
ASOS DESIGN Endless suede heeled boots: £65. In life today we push boundaries, we push ourselves out of our comfort zone and that includes fashion. This outfit is exactly that - We are pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone and trying something new and fresh, Something we wouldn`t wear on a daily basis, We are bringing the fire back into our lives and making it more interesting. I decided to add these boots to the look because why not? Why be like everyone else and dress the same? You want to feel comfortable but look chic at the same time - This outfit does exactly that. You can also opt for any other boots in this post and pair it with this outfit.
Casua/Night Out Outfit No.2
ASOS Only denim shirt: £26. A couple of weeks ago Jade was seen on a night out wearing denim on denim and this is where my inspiration for this outfit came from. So we was unable to find Jade`s outfit from that night, So here are some alternatives. Now, Again you can either dress this up casually or for a night out. You can dress it like Jade did with some buttons undone, tucked into your jeans with brown accessories
.ASOS Weekday mile bootcut jeans in mid blue: £40. Just like Jade we paired the look with flared jeans, Now I know what most young people think when they see flared jeans that arent modern, They would think they would look their dad in the 70s/80s. That`s not the case because I wouldn`t do that either and I tried to find the most subtle flared jeans I could and I came across these. Bare in mind their is flared jeans that are longer and more sexier and attractive on the leg out in the world but I don`t have a lot of time so these will make do. I`m not sure if these are the correct colour to match with the shirt, But a lot of places do denim co-ords like Topshop.
ASOS DESIGN Ridley high waist skinny jeans in dark stone wash with raw hem detail: £25. In case you wasn`t interested in the flared jeans or they arent your thing, Then we also went and got some skinny jeans for you. Whether it`s skinny or flared they will make the outfit look good, So don`t worry if you think it`s starting to look old fashioned.
New Look block heel boot in snake print: £19.99. What Jade did with her outfit is team it with some ankle boots, So that`s what we did too albeit it`s not the same ones. She teamed hers with red/brown boots, We did try and find some similar boots but the brown boots on offer wasn`t tickling our pickle. So we opted for some snake skin ones from New Look, She has worn snake skin before so don`t worry this is nothing new. What Jade did with her denim look was have blue clothes and brown accessories. People say sometimes that people over do it with the accessories, Not if you do it Miss Thirlwalls way you don`t. Simply adding accessories to a outfit in the same colour gives it a vibe of you over did it but you didn`t.
H&M Leather belt: £12.99 Going off from what I said previously she added a brown belt to her look. You can also choose from a variety of colours on the H&M website of this belt too.
PrettyLittleThing beaded mini bag with resin handle in brown: £28. Last but not least, You need something to put all of your bits and bobs in now don`t we? Or otherwise will never see them again. So we opted for this brown beaded bag from PLT. These bags, If you have been taking a look on the catwalks and HS shops lately you will find these bags everywhere, They are very popular at the moment. The beaded design is on trend and so is the tortoiseshell design, Which you can not only find on bags but on belts, buttons and shoes as well. They mixed those two together and produced this baby. Places like Zara and Mango are known for these bags, but they sometimes cost a arm and a leg and we all haven`t got the money to fork out, So we found this cheaper alternative.
Casual/Night Out Outfit No.3
Boohoo Ruched Waist Maxi Duster Jacket: £13.50. Again, This outfit is inspired by one of Jade`s recent nights out. She wore a black cardigan with a Fiorucci crop top, belt and some ripped jeans with some boots. This look is you have a event at 8pm and then dinner at 9pm vibe to it. You can dress it up or down, wear it casually or for a night out it`s your choice. The cardigan would be ideal for the summer months, or when it`s transitioning into summer like it is now and you can`t decide whether it`s cold or hot.
PrettyLittleThing OVERSIZED CROP T SHIRT: £8. So like Jade I also opted for a crop top. Advice on crop tops if your not keen on your waist/hips and your jeans arent high waisted. I would go for a crop top like this one, They are what I call box/boxy tops even though PLT doesn`t state that. Box tops are longer and are in the style of a box, So if you wanted to show a little tummy you would opt for this, Alas if you didn`t like your arms you would also go for something like this. These are a much better alternative to a high cut crop top, We all have the same problems...You want to wear a crop top but you don`t like your stomach or your hips or waist, So what can I do? These are the best and I couldn`t praise that enough, Even I have some of these stashed away. What`s even better is that they are versatile and you can wear these for lounging around, too quickly throw on or for a night out. They also come in a variety of colours.
Topshop Bleach Flap Rip Mom Jeans: £42. Jade`s ripped jeans were from Topshop but are no longer available, these are not the same ones but they are great alternatives.
Office Azul Sock Boots Black: £72. We quite literally took everything Jade was wearing and used it too, She went for boots and so are we. I love these boots, I think these are my favourite. They may be a bit expensive but if you think about how much wear your going to get out of them and how much they will change and add to your outfits then they are worth it. However, If you wanted to opt for something different then keep on reading to the post below.
White trainers: I guess this is where the casual part of the outfit comes in, White low trainers are on trend at the moment, So on trend that we couldn`t decide which trainer/brand to show you. So we added a link to a whole range of white trainers you can add to this look. Again think about how versatile they would be, How much use you would get out of them. I added these because they would look great with the jeans and a belt and a crop top and again we`re going back to feeling comfortable and fresh.
H&M Narrow belt: £6.99. On the night Jade had a belt that had zebra print and yellow in it, We didn`t want that. So we opted for this black belt with gold hardware. These belts are really popular at the moment, especially the ones with the gold hardware rings. They are all inspired by Gucci`s famous GG belts which of course the girls love to wear, But none of us are rich and we`re all poor AF. So this is a great alternative. Edit: I did realise I added the wrong belt, But here is the actual belt from Topshop
Topshop Tara Soft PU Tote Bag: £15. Again, These bags are becoming popular. They call it a tote bag but I see it more of as a pouch bag, it has the silver hardware handles with the black leather material and slouch design. It`s sort of like a paper bag really isnt it? I don`t know why these are becoming popular but if you have a look on sites like Topshop and ASOS they are everywhere, So why not get in on the trend?

The Ideal Outfit Based on Your Zodiac Sign
So, who here is into reading their horoscope? Now, I’m sure we all know someone who is super into it and reads theirs on a daily basis— I am not that person. However, I do find myself getting sucked into articles such as “Find Your Ideal Honeymoon Destination Based on Your Horoscope” and “What Starbucks Drink You Should Order Based on Your Zodiac Sign”. I mean, they’re kind of fun and entertaining, right? Plus, I can almost guarantee that everyone at least knows what zodiac sign they are, so why not pair that with some cute outfit ideas to capture your zodiac’s essence?
After making the decision to write this blog, there was no turning back. Thus, began copious amounts of research on each sign. The sources of my information were www.horoscope.com and www.astology-zodiac-signs.com. If you’re into reading your horoscopes or learning more about your sign, these are great starting places. Now, let’s get into it, shall we?
Capricorn – The Goat
Dates: December 22-January 19
Colors: Dark green and brown.
Key Traits: Detail-oriented, responsible, and hardworking.
(Dress: Amazon, shoes: Zappos, jewelry: Etsy, bag: Michael Kors)
Due to the hardworking nature of Capricorns, it is important to have a bag that can take you straight from class to work. A backpack bag is perfect for on-the-go tasks and won’t slow you down during a busy day; you will sometimes forget you’re even wearing it! Furthermore, a spacious design allows for any essentials you’ll need throughout the day. A flowy tank top dress is the perfect base to layer on gladiator sandals (which, may I add, contribute to the “strength” element of this zodiac). Lastly, an intricate, layered necklace finalizes this look by sealing in the gold accented accessory theme. The end result? A perfect, detail-oriented ensemble that’s fit for a Capricorn!
Aquarius – The Water Bearer
Dates: January 20-February 18
Colors: Silver and light blue.
Key Traits: Independent, original, and humanitarian.
(Top: Polyvore, jacket: The Jacket Maker, jeans: Express, shoes: Adidas)
For this zodiac’s originality, an eccentric look is a must. So, I went for something that is original, yet wearable on a daily basis. This incomparable silver bomber jacket is clearly the most eye-catching part of this outfit, so you are sure to stand out from the crowd. Paired with silver accented tennis shoes to match, this trendsetter look is swoon-worthy. A mixture of textures is created with a baby blue ribbed tank tucked into some distressed black jeans, which helps balance out this look. Moreover, this outfit is super comfortable—always a plus in my book!
Pieces – The Fish
Dates: February 19-March 20
Colors: Purple and sea-green.
Key Traits: Compassionate, intuitive and artistic.
(Romper: Lulu’s, sandals: Kee Shoes, clutch: Contrado, rings: Etsy)
For the Pisces, The Little Mermaid immediately came to mind. With the key characteristics of being compassionate and artistic, Ariel’s musical abilities and considerate ways came to mind. In addition, who else would use a fork for a brush? That’s intuitive art right there. To channel your inner mermaid, this sea-green romper with a twisted belt detailing is flawless. Additionally, some light purple heels match Ariel’s color theme, as well as the Pisces’! Of course, I just had to add some fish scale inspiration with a perfectly matching clutch. The shiny texture also gives off a “wet” look—score! To further this theme, I added in some silver midi rings for even more sparkle.
Aires – The Ram
Dates: March 21-April 19
Color: Red.
Key Traits: Courageous, independent, and impatient.
(T-shirt: Nordstrom, shoes: Converse, leggings: JCPenny, jacket: H&M)
This is probably my favorite outfit of them all, and I’m not even an Aires (I just love me a good band tee)! Prior to writing this blog, even I knew that Aires are known for having a “fiery” personality. Low and behold, their color is red! With splashes of red in the t-shirt and shoes, this outfit is given a bold and daring personality (much like an Aires). Due to their slightly impatient nature, a comfortable outfit is key. Enter: leggings. Furthermore, an old band tee, jean jacket, and Converse give this look an old school, “cool girl” vibe—perfect for this zodiac.
Taurus – The Bull
Dates: April 20-May 20
Color: Pink.
Key Traits: Dependable, elegant, and devoted.
(Blouse: Lulus, shorts: Missguided, sandals: Lulus, necklace: Bija Bijoux)
Despite their symbol being a bull, this zodiac has rather elegant characteristics and mannerisms. Therefore, I put together a more girly, feminine look. Even for someone who isn’t the biggest fan of pink (me), this outfit is just too adorable to pass up. A cropped, ruffled crop top is a fabulous statement piece to have handy in the summertime. Paired with some white high-waisted buttoned shorts, the torso is balanced out. Keeping with this light, romantic theme, some blush pink lace-up wedges were added. As for the jewelry, I decided on a crescent necklace that reminds me of a bull’s nose ring so, naturally, I had to.
Gemini – The Twins
Dates: May 21-June 20
Colors: Yellow and light green.
Key Traits: Affectionate, curious, and kind.
(Dress: Forever 21, sandals: Lulus, bag: Hot Topic, glasses: Sunglass Casa)
What a ray of sunshine! After reading up on Geminis, it is clear that they are typically “old souls”. Therefore, this 70’s-inspired floral dress just screamed “Gemini” to me. It also serves as a romantic look, bridging back to this affectionate zodiac. For the first statement accessory, cat eye sunglasses further exemplify the vintage vibe. Another characteristic of this zodiac is curiosity, leading to their love for curling up with a good book. Needless to say, this rare “once upon a time” purse is an excellent find!
Cancer – The Crab
Dates: June 21-July 22
Colors: White and violet.
Key Traits: Emotional, loyal, and intelligent.
(Two-piece: Lily Boutique, pumps: Shiekh Shoes, clutch: Zatchels)
For the Cancer zodiac, I put together a vintage, 20’s era outfit based on their personality traits. To establish this feminine style, lace embroidery is an essential. Thus, a white lace monochromatic two-piece is absolute perfection for this sign. Furthermore, a touch of violet is added with a simple cross-body bag. Nude pumps pair flawlessly with this romantic look without being too overpowering and distracting from the intricate detailing. Plus, these pumps also help to elongate your legs (a great bonus)! Finally, I couldn’t resist adding in a ribbon for your hair to finish off this vintage Cancer attire.
Leo – The Lion
Dates: July 23-August 22
Colors: Gold, yellow, and orange.
Key Traits: Bold, humorous, and creative.
(Dress: Rockray Clothing, sandals: Aetrex, earrings: AliExpress, purse: Ebay)
Hit the beach in this fun, lioness-inspired look! Leos are known for being humorous and creative, so a laid-back 70’s themed outfit was my goal here. This loose, brightly colored yellow sundress with bell sleeves effortlessly captures this essence. For a lion’s mane appearance, aim for some voluminous, beachy waves and statement feather earrings. This ensemble is finished off with a woven summer-ready handbag and some beaded sandals.
Virgo – The Virgin
Dates: August 23-September 22
Colors: White and beige.
Key Traits: Organized, kind, and practical.
(Top: Athleta, blazer: Lyst, pants: Neiman Marcus, shoes: Dillard’s)
Moving on to the Virgo! To emanate from their organizational qualities, a striped shirt is the building block of this outfit. Virgos are all about functionality. Now, what better way to go from work to play than having a trusty blazer handy? Leather pants also contribute to this dual purpose outfit with their ability to transition from the office to happy hour. Lastly, flats were chosen to complete this look due to their practicality. No one wants to be slowed down from task to task, especially a Virgo.
Libra – The Scales
Dates: September 23-October 22
Colors: Pink, blue, and green.
Key Traits: Cooperative, intelligent, and gracious.
(Shirt: Yours Clothing, necklace: Accessorize, capris: True Religion, shoes: Bohme)
Next, we have a style that is built with Libras in mind. With intelligent and gracious qualities, this zodiac is gifted at finding the ideal outfit for every situation. Due to the fact that their symbol is the scales, a balance between elegant statement and basic pieces is attained to encompass this attribute. A breathtaking statement necklace with blues and pinks does just the job for an otherwise casual outfit. These light, pastel tones mix and mingle with the feel-good vibes of summertime! Combined, these items make up a sophisticated, polished look for tactful Libras.
Scorpio – The Scorpion
Dates: October 23-November 21
Color: Scarlet.
Key Traits: Brave, stubborn, and independent.
(Top: Polyvore, skirt: Lipsy, purse: Venus, heels: Larizia)
For this zodiac, a dark, classy ensemble perfectly captures their essence. This flowy top adds just a pop of scarlet to pay homage to this sign’s symbol: the scorpion. With independence being a key trait, a straight-from-work look was achieved with a classic pencil skirt and gold accented pumps. Alas, we mustn’t forget about their bravery! To capture this characteristic, a striking leopard print purse was added to finalize this outfit.
Sagittarius – The Archer
Dates: November 22-December 21
Colors: Light blue and black.
Key Traits: Humorous, creative, and idealistic.
(Skirt: H&M, shirt: Asos, heels: Express, bag: Nicole Miller)
Calling all Sags! Last, but certainly not least on the list. After studying up on this sign (and being one, myself), I decided to go for an outfit made up of timeless pieces. Of course, these pieces consist of a plain white tee and some black strapped open-toe heels. Then again, a bold leather skirt packs a creative, unexpected punch to the look. To incorporate a light blue hue, this textured rectangular bag is an impeccable addition.
Here ends my list of outfits inspired by your zodiac. Do you agree with these picks? Thanks for reading!
Until next time,
Paige

Sexy AF Plus-Size Dresses for Valentines Day
Scroll To See More Images
Look, I’m not going to lie to you. I don’t have a Valentine’s Day date for this year—TBH, never have. My relationships have never quite lined up to V-Day, so I usually spend the day solo or with other single friends. However, just because I don’t have a date, doesn’t mean I don’t like to look hot AF on the holiday. Whether you have a date this year or not, there’s a sexy plus-size dress with your name on it that you can rock on Valentine’s Day and beyond.
Plus-size clothing shopping can be a serious drag. I was actually talking (OK, ranting) to my mom—bless her heart—the other day about the lack of plus-size options for all ages. This is honestly one of the reasons I really enjoy creating these plus-size shopping guides. Finding genuinely cute, sexy and stylish size-inclusive looks can be exhausting. But in the end, it’s totally worth it to find clothing that fits plus-size bodies well—and I get to really expand my wishlists.
Growing up in a society that seems to value thinness over any sort of actual redeeming quality, dating—and more specifically, Valentine’s Day—can be a sensitive subject. So many plus-size women are made to feel less-than because of their weight, especially when it comes to romance. Many brands are finally making an effort to include women who wear plus-sizes in their marketing campaigns and offer extended sizing, and it’s a good start. It can be difficult to have confidence in your body when you rarely see anyone who looks like you given basic respect or a leading role in society. (Shoutout to the movie Dumplin’ on Netflix, which is a great step in the right direction.) Everyone deserves to feel hot as hell.
So, for this Valentine’s Day, I rounded up 21 sexy plus-size dresses you can shop right now. I hope they make you feel hot AF—whether you have a date or not—because you totally are.

Everything mustard always.
V-Neck Sharp Shoulder Dress, $149.90 at Eloquii
All eyes will be on you, babe.

TBH, I want that embellished collar put on all my clothes.
Plus-Size Floral Lace Skater Dress, $30 at Charlotte Russe
You’ll be looking (and feeling) red hot.
Outrageous Fortune Plus Ruffle Wrap Dress with Fluted Sleeve, $40 at ASOS

If this doesn’t scream Valentine’s Day, I don’t know what does.

A ’70s dream.

I spend too much time on online stores browsing their endless pages looking at all the beautiful clothes they have to offer. I never end up buying anything though because 1. I have way too many clothes already and 2. The prices are always too high! Here is a wishlist/style inspiration list of things I have been LOVING this month (and will be loving this whole year). Now, these aren’t things that I’m telling you to splurge your money on (believe me I don’t even have the $$ for that), but just ideas of things that I’d like to wear and aesthetics I’d like to explore!
Yellow, lots and lots of yellow - I don’t know where or how this obsession came about, but I am in love with yellow. If I see something yellow I will immediately make a beeline for it in hopes that it is something I fall in love with. I have wanted a yellow raincoat for as long as I can remember and hope that I can stumble upon one in the thriftstore soon, but up until then I’ll just keep admiring this yellow jacket from topshop. I also really love little doodle prints, and this yellow printed babydoll dress is so perfect and definitely something I’d love to add to my wardrobe. I’d also like to step outside my comfort zone with my handbag choice. I got a nice mustard—yep, no surprise there—bag that I took everywhere with me in 2016. It was different for me to explore colour with a bag because I was always one to get a plain black bag that would go with everything. However, despite being yellow, I would find myself reaching for that bag almost every time I was going out. I think that this yellow bag from Zara is adorable, and it’s also got my zodiac on it! You can’t go wrong with something that has your zodiac on it.
Ruffles, funky sleeves, and funky prints - I got a ruffled sweater on boxing day which everyone found ugly but I for some reason thought was the cutest sweater ever. I definitely need more ruffled pieces, like this ruffled denim shirt in my wardrobe because it’s something I’ve never really worn before! I’m also super into belle-sleeved tops and this floral printed top and star printed top have the perfect combination of funky prints with funky sleeves and... ruffles! The animal printed coat and cat printed shirt are also wardrobe staples—if something has cats on it I will be ALL over it! When I was younger I use to have a lot of animal printed things, leopard print especially. But as I got older I found it to be tacky and just not my style. I’ve recently grown to love it again and definitely need to add some fun animal printed pieces to my wardrobe.
Embroidery! - I absolutely love the delicate detail that goes into embroidery. This embroidered denim jacket and embroidered shirt have it all! I think this year I’d like to try and DIY some of my own embroidered pieces, so I’ll be in search at the thriftstore for some cute blouses and jeans that could use a little oopmh!
and lastly...
Things I don’t know how to categorize - I threw this Copenhagen shirt in here because when I saw it I knew I had to include it. If you read our Movie Monday about Copenhagen you’ll know that it has a special place in our hearts and a place we both really, really want to visit! I also feel like I’ve never owned a proper pair of heels to wear out on a somewhat daily basis and I think that these Zara heels are the perfect height and the perfect style to make any outfit you have a little more chic!
Now that you have read the stylish Tahreem’s amazing fashion explanation above, which included links on where to buy her fav pieces and a super cute mood board, its time to dive into my not so well explained, eccentric style that includes no links at all but some wicked inspo if I do say so myself!
Now I am no Tahreem, I do not have a perfect aesthetic or an eye for what’s great in stores RIGHT NOW.
As for my style right now its really a mixture of everything! I honestly love anything sparkly, shimmery, embroidered, colourful, etc… really THE TACKIER the better in my opinion!! I am always being influenced by 70’s fashion of course, as is everyone, but I like to put little twists on it by pairing wackier pieces/more preppy pieces with the laid back hippy style of that era!
Right now I’m LOVING funky socks under open toed shoes, glitter on faces, flared pants, and lots and lots of TULLE!!! Basically I want the look of a 70’s, disco, princess, that also maybe has a summer house in Paris? She might also drink sparkling cider in a champagne glass instead of real alcohol (its better for your skin) while sitting on her yellow sofa covered in thrifted knitwear ( based on a true story).
If you know me, you know that I rarely ever buy from fast fashion brands anymore, so most of my clothes are from the lovely thrift shops I find around me! I personally think you can find the most unique pieces by playing scavenger hunt in your local thrift shop! All the looks above can most DEFINITELY be re-created at your local thrift stores, which is perfect for the environment and your wallet!!
We hope you enjoyed that lil spiel and found some inspiration for your own wardrobe!
Stay Stylish,
Tahreem and Alycia xx

↓18. Perfect School Day Look
This look is so easy to put together and you can wear it any day of the week! Pick a three-quarter length sleeved top of your choice. The one pictured is white with pale pink sleeves and a pale pink collar. Pale, neutral tones are super stylish, especially when paired with another fabric/color of your choice. Here this black, corduroy overall dress hits mid-thigh (you might need to go a bit longer depending on your school’s dress code) and features adorable buttons and classic overall clasps. With this look, you do not need many accessories. Some simple stud earrings will do the trick along with a ring or two. Choose a neutral-coloured backpack like this gray one. It will match almost everything. Finish off the look with a pair of black and white sneakers (pictured are Vans) and tie up your hair in a sweet half-up, half-down do. This is a cute and versatile look that works for just about any casual occasion! Here are some more Sporty Style Outfits for School Every Girl Must Try.
Here’s another similar look but with a different colour tone.
↓ 17. Cute Outfit For Teenage Girls For Summers
Denim skirts really came into their own in the good ol’ nineties. Before that, denim pencil skirts were The Thing. Now, they’re back and they are better than ever (i.e. this is how you wear a jean skirt a la modern fashion). This cute little wardrobe piece hits mid-thigh, is high-waist, and features a line up of buttons down the front. It is very form flattering, especially when worn with a tucked in top. This tee features a high collar and a beautiful flowery print with sleeves that are just a bit on the long side. You can accessorize with a variety of rings on your fingers and the earrings of your choice. (Small hoop earrings or stud earrings would suit this look very well.) Pull your hair back in a loose half-up, half-down hairstyle, and leave a few wisps loose to frame your face. Tuck in a pair of sunglasses to pop on once you’re out and about!
A shoulder purse with a big clasp or buckle can be super stylish. Throw on a pair of slipper style shoes: these are deep red and feature silvery studs along the heel – perfectly matching your buttoned skirt – and echo the reddish pops of color in the shirt. Adorable and stylish, this is a perfect look for a day at the mall or lunch out with your best girlfriends! Don’t miss out these 20 Outfit Ideas For Teen Girls In Summer.

↓ 16. A Throwback ’90s Look You’ll Love
If you ever watched Friends and thought, “Man, I love those ’90s looks,” then this is the outfit for you. With this ensemble, you’ll be wearing a black and white striped knit sweater tucked into a pair of slightly baggy skinny jeans. With this look, you’ll want to go for a fitted sweater so as not to overwhelm your frame. A traditionally sized black, silver-clasped belt is the perfect throwback accessory. Black, shiny dress shoes lend a bit of a tomboyish vibe as well. Tease your hair a little and tie up in a half-knot on top of your head. Some round, Harry-Potter-esque eyeglasses are the perfect touch to finish off this great school day look.
Via
↓ 15. Trendy Teen Girl Dresses
Spotted! A Gossip Girl approved ensemble with a trendy twist. With this outfit, you’ll be donning a cute gray dress featuring thin, spaghetti straps and a straight cut neckline over a black turtleneck sweater. Very stylish, much fashion. You will also be wearing a pair of sheer black tights and the trend-setting piece of choice: these black and white high-tops. With footwear this comfortable, you will never want to take this outfit off. To complete the look, straighten your hair and wear some simple stud earrings. Voila! Next time you’re on family vacation consider taking this little look out for a day on the town.
Via
↓ 14. Alternate Denim Skirt Look
Here at Outfit Trends we want to show you that every clothing piece has endless potential. In this case, we feature again this very modern, very stylish denim skirt which can obviously be worn in a variety of ways. With this look, you’ll again be tucking your favorite blouse or top into your skirt (you want to get the maximum benefit of all those cute buttons!). This particular tee is a soft pink and has a cutesy pattern you could easily replicate or replace, depending on your own personal sense of style, and has mid-length sleeves folded over at the elbow. The shoe of choice is a cute white sneaker, which is such a great wardrobe essential and can be worn a variety of ways. A simple, small black purse (another staple, in our opinion!) completes the look.
Via
↓ 13. Fun Everyday Look
This burnt orange top and brown knit beanie is everything we could ask for in an everyday look that is as trendy as it is stylish! For an indoor winter look or an outdoor autumn look, this outfit is perfect for nearly every occasion. This bell-sleeved top is loose and flowy (and super forgiving if you do not feel like wearing a form-fitting outfit) and pairs really well with black skinny jeans that hit just above the ankle. The choice of footwear is fun and unexpected (and honestly, most shoes would work with this outfit) and helps bring a more everyday appeal to this otherwise autumnal ensemble. Throw on a beanie and your favorite eyeglasses and you’ll find yourself looking equal parts trendy, stylish, tomboyish, and chic!
Via
↓ 12. The Perfect Combo of Girly and Grunge
For a look that straddles two ends of the spectrum, check out this casual ensemble that features a white ruffled crop top, army green ripped trousers, and a pair of trendy white sneaks. This outfit is super trendy and is great for a day out with your friends.
Via

↓8. Jean Jacket and Leggings
If you love a comfortable, casual look that still looks put together and stylish, look no further. This outfit is so easy to pull together and is endlessly doable. Start with your favorite pullover hoodie. Any color will do but grey and denim tend to look really good together. Then add a denim jacket. You can fold over the cuffs at the wrist and let your hoodie sleeves peep out. You’ll want a jacket that isn’t too fitted but not over-sized either. Next throw on a pair of black leggings. They balance the extra fabric you have up top. Now is your choice of footwear. These bright orange high-top Converse are comfy, cute, and will never go out of style, but if you like a more understated look, go for something a little more muted, like a white sneaker. Last but not least, tie up your hair in a top knot and throw on your favorite cross-body purse. And there you have it! Comfy, casual, cute. We love it.

This is a great outfit for walking around the city or grabbing coffee at your favorite cafe.

Persephone’s Pleasures (pt.1)
I read a story prompt about a florist next door to a tattoo parlor and this is how I imagined it.
It was an early morning garbage pickup that woke her. The truck outside her window made a massive amount of noise as the dumpster was lifted and tipped into the back of the truck, signaling that Monday had officially begun. Rolling out of bed, she stretched and sighed as she looked at her phone, mainly due to habit and less because she was expecting any notifications. There were two new Tinder messages for her from the following night.
Matt, 26 years old and 3 miles away said “hey girl, how you doin’,” at 2 am that morning.
Phil, 29 years old and 4.7 miles away said “I love your glasses. What do you do for fun?” at 11:00pm the night before.
She clicked her phone off without answering these men and began getting ready for work. It always took her a long time to tame her long, kinky hair into something that looked intentional. After that she would have to face the encyclopedia of makeup she owned and figure out what look would match who she wanted to be that day.
She could go with huge, black, liquid eyeliner wings that would match her if she was feeling bad ass and edgy. Black leather motorcycle jacket and tight pants, perfect for listening to the Arctic Monkeys and ZZ Ward. But that was an outfit that really only worked in the fall. That leather and black was too warm for the early summer sun that just starting to reach it’s rays across the wooden floors of her apartment, and by lunch the temperature would reach up to the 70’s, leather would not do.
As she considered the weather that day she picked up her electric blue eyeshadow, it was almost summer after all. But if she was being honest, she really only liked it in winter, when it was cold enough for her to wear her large heavily framed glasses that made her nose sweat in the summer. Plus it was blue, and matched a ton of her winter/snow themed clothes, including that blue, itchy wool sweater with the turtle neck and the light up snow flakes, if it weren’t so damn cute that itchy bastard would have gotten the toss long ago.
She looked at her face in the mirror and took a few deep breathes. Who am I today? Who am I today? As she gazed at her face she was struck by how lovely her skin looked today, the warmth of the pending summer had brought a rosiness to the apples of her cheeks, her eyes lacked bags and her lips were looking ripe and full. She put on a layer of mascara to accentuate her eyes and smiled at how beautiful she looked.
This was her favorite time of year. The calendar had just turned to May, and the heavy, oppressive heat of the Chesapeake Bay summer had not yet settled on her town. The air felt fresh and smelled of budding trees and fresh grass. She took a deep inhale of that summer smell and savored the feeling of possibility that always felt this time of year. As the days stretched longer, the nights seemed to swell in response making room for any thing to happen. The congruency of summer and being out of school always gave people a feeling of lack of responsibility that persisted into adulthood. The streets hummed with tourists and all those new faces also gave her a sense of possibility, each person could be her new best friend, any of them could be her great love.
The olive green skater dress she picked swung around her thighs as she bounced down the stairs from her apartment. Her earbuds were pumping the sound of After locking the stairway door behind her she walked the six paces left of her apartment door, to the door of her shop. The ground to ceiling display windows curved into the door frame from either side. On her left was the sculpture that a local artist had ask to display in her window. It was a large geometric shape made of metal piping, which the artist allowed honeybees to fill with intricate wax works filled with millions of hexagons. On her right the display was of a female mannequin, holding an umbrella with flowers on invisible string hanging around her to look like rain.
Above the door hung her sign, charcoal grey words on a dusty rose back ground reading “Persephone’s Pleasures.”
She had just stepped a foot in the door when she stopped, and reversed back out of the store, far enough into the side walk to get a good look at the shop to the left of hers. The newspaper had been removed from the windows, there was a chalkboard sandwich board in front of the door and a sign above the windows read, “Squid Ink” and in subtype “Tattoos and piercings.”
She had been spending the last few weeks daydreaming about what kind of business would move into the space next to hers. During lulls in her day she would imagine that a chocolatier would move in, chocolate and flowers do go well together, and Jonny Depp was so sexy in that movie. Maybe a stuffy accountant or lawyer, who she would see the potential in, make over and then have created the man of her dreams. Or at least she could get a friend’s rate getting her taxes done. Her favorite imaginary scenario was that a coffee shop would open up, of course she would take a hit financially, going over there all the time to buy coffee, but it would be great. Their building would smell like coffee, and maybe she would even get a cute barista out of it.
But now it was a tattoo parlor. She simply had no use for it and it meant her street would have an increase of the type of people that scare away people who regularly buy flowers and small garden supplies. She pouted as she made her usual boring coffee in her standard drip coffee pot. Still daydreaming about a steamy barista, she heard the soft bell at her front door jingled.
She heaved a sigh before throwing on her winning smile and bouncing out to the front of the store. “Good morning! What is your pleasure today?” it was her favorite opening line, just disarming and playful enough to bring a smile to the face of even the grumpiest customer. Standing just inside the door was a tall man, holding a pink pastry box. The sleeves of his white button up shirt were rolled up to his elbows and his exposed forearms were covered in tattoos.

Modern, Minimalist Mom Capsule Wardrobe – Year 3
My minimalist mom capsule wardrobe was so popular the last two years (and made dressing each day so fun and easy) that I couldn’t help do it again this year. Only a little bigger and even better.
Every piece here is a proven winner– that shirt, cardigan, hoodie, and pair of jeans that you’ll reach for again and again. The ones that you love to wear and can be worn a millions different ways. These are the items that keep us comfortably chasing the kids all day- cotton, denim, and sneakers- done in such a laid-back-chic way.
The result is a high-performing, workhorse of a wardrobe that will give you an effortlessly cool look every day of the week.
Plus, for the first time ever, the ENTIRE WARDROBE is from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale so you have the opportunity to save big.
If you’re already a Nordstrom card holder, you can shop the sale now! If not, you’ll get your chance to shop these sales on Friday, July 21st. If you want to get in on these finds you have to hurry, though, items are selling out rapidly and the sale is ending soon.
Classic Tops
Free People Split Back Turtleneck
$68, Now $44.90
This looks so cozy and I love that it’s edgy while being totally covered up. I would wear it with both jeans and yoga pants (win!) and layered with a simple tank like this favorite also on sale!
Hunter Plaid Shirt
$148 Now $99.90
I always have to have at least one quality plaid (I’m from Seattle, are you surprised?) Plus, so great for layering under vests and sweaters… But they aren’t all equal and the drape and material of this one are top notch.
Make + Model Brushed Hacci Sweatshirt
$45 $29.90
I love me a stylish sweatshirt! Because honestly, if I can wear sweats all day and still look good, I’m gonna do it! This looks extra, extra soft and would be a great staple please- especially at this amazing price.
Lush Raw Edge Side Slit Tee
$24 Now $15.90
I’ve come to despise basic straight bottom tees. Why? Because they can make any outfit look dowdy. This twist on the boring basic tee is a great way to up your style points on any outfit you put together.
Pants
PAIGE Hoxton High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans
$189 Now $99
I’ve been looking for some darker wash jeans to wear to girls’ nights and date nights and with this discount, it’s kinda impossible to resist.
Everyone I know adores Paige jeans and I’m no exception. They are the first luxury brand jeans I started buying regularly because I know they will last and I’ll get more than my money’s worth. Plus, they make me feel great when I wear them and this high-waisted design will be especially slimming!
PAIGE Transcend Hoxton High Waist Undone Hem Skinny Jeans
$199 Now $131.90
Speaking of Paige jeans, this pair is at the absolute top of my wish list. I wear A LOT of jeans (like every day that I’m not wearing yoga pants the 9 months of the year it’s not sunny here). So when I find a pair that gives me a chance to show off a little flair without going crazy, I get excited.
The slanted hems are really cool (I like them so much better than the step hem that is popular right now) and I could see wearing these while volunteering at school as well as for date night making them super versatile.
Note: If you’re looking for a more straight-laced black jean, check out this pair of Instasculpt skinny jeans also on sale- because who doesn’t want to be instascupted?!
Zella Live In Slim Fit Leggings in Grey Graphite
$59 Now $38.90
As I said, I wear almost exclusively jeans and yoga pants in cooler weather and the only yoga pants I wear are Zella. I ALWAYS stock up during the #NSale too because of the great prices.
The thickness of these pants makes me always feel sucked in and sleek without feeling compressed if you know what I mean. I’m excited to add this grey graphite pair to the rotation.
Zella All In Ankle Leggings
$75 Now $49.90
Although I’ve seen the high waist Zella leggings (on sale for $35) featured by a ton of fashion bloggers this year. I still prefer the mid-rise, ankle cut (the high rise just makes my hips and stomach look weird).
I like that these are a subtle upgrade of the basic black tight too.
Sweaters
Free People Electric City Pullover Sweater
$98 Now $64.90
Maybe it’s because I’m a child of the 80s but I just can’t resist a comfy sweater to curl up in front of the fire with a good book in. This one is so pretty and doesn’t look bulky or scratchy, both of which are a total must.
Billabong Snuggle Off the Shoulder Sweater
This is probably the edgiest of my picks. I wouldn’t wear it during my normal day-to-day but I love it for fall or winter date nights. It’s just sexy enough to make it special.
Gibson Bell Sleeve Cozy Fleece Pullover
$59, Now $39.90
The bell sleeves on this top are so feminine and current, who would guess it’s made of fleece?! Did I mention how much I like to be comfortable?
Note: If you like this sleeve, definitely check out this super fun top for nights out – now 40% off!
Layering Pieces
Caslon® Mixed Print Open Front Long Cardigan
$89, Now $49.90
I have picked up a long cardigan with a cool design at each of the last couple sales and I always get so many compliments on them. This is definitely the one for this year.
Love Token Faux Shearling Vest
$120, Now $79.90
I’ve been eyeing faux shearling vests like this since last year’s sale but just couldn’t decide if I was edgy enough to be able to rock one. The knit back of this one makes it feel more accessible to me for some reason and it just looks so ridiculously comfy!
Vince Camuto Contrast Trim Quilted Vest
$118, Now $58.90
Is there anything better than a quilted vest on a crisp and cool fall day? They are so wonderful for staying warm (something I struggle with) and I really love the interesting contrasting colors and gold details on this one. It’s a total stand out amongst the standard quilted vest and it’s 50% off!!
BLANKNYC Chill Pill Cardigan
$88, Now $57.90
This contrasting cardigan is another super warm item that you can wear with anything. It’s also a unique piece that not every other mommy at school pick up will be wearing. Such a good find.
Athleisure Tops
Brunette Fries Before Guys Sweatshirt
$79, Now $51.90
I love a soft sweat shirt for cool evenings, to pair with yoga pants while on the go, or for lounging around in once I’ve changed into my PJs around 6 pm (I’m not the only one who does this am I?).
Also, if you have daughters they NEED to see you casually rocking this, like every day. Let’s make not so subliminal messaging work for us guys!
The North Face Hooded Fleece Pullover
$99, Now $69.90
If your kid has an outside sport, this is the top you must buy! Take it from this Pacific Northwesterner, cozy plush fleece is luxuriously warm – especially when layered under a coat on a cold and windy field. Treat yourself, you won’t be sorry.
Nike Gym Zip Hoodie
$60, Now $36.98
This vintage zip hoodie is so light-weight and soft that it feels like butter. I think I wore it every day for two weeks straight when I first got it. Great for moderate weather as well as layering when it gets cooler.
Zella Drop the Armhole Tank
$39
I have a confession to make; although I love running around in yoga pants and I think the athleisure trend was maybe one of the best things to happen to me, I still have trouble figuring out what to wear with them.
I’m a fan of the half tuck when I wear jeans so I often feel like untucked tees and tanks with my yoga pants look a little off. That’s why I included this tank from Zella even though it’s the only item in the capsule not currently on sale. The tie in the front gives this casual top just enough structure and I love the effect.
Finishing Pieces
UGG Elvia Waterproof Tall Boot
$249.95, $164.90
These waterproof boots look like such work horses – perfect in the snow and slush but also super cute with skinny jeans or black Zellas – all while being ridiculously comfortable – what can’t they do?
Converse Jack Purcell Signature Ox Low Top
$69.95, Now $45.90
I am so smitten with the color of these iconic shoes. Not white but Platinum. They’ll give your outfit the polished look of a white shoe but be a lot easier to keep clean. Sold!
Nike Juvenate SE Sneaker
$95, Now $70
Speaking of iconic shoes, snagging a discounted Nike in basic black, which I can wear with everything while running around all day, is kinda a must for me. The softness of this one is what sold me.
TOMS Deia Block Heel Bootie
$97.95, Now $64.90
Last year I bought a similar pair of gray Toms boots during the sale and I could not believe how comfortable they turned out to be. Having chronic back problems means I only do heels rarely.
I bought my Toms boots with the idea of wearing them to date nights when I intended to be sitting most of the time. Much to my delight, I found they are comfortable enough to walk around in for extended periods of time- whoo hoo!
Sperry Saltwater Spray Wedge Waterproof Rain Boot
$129.95, Now $84.90
For the days when the Ugg boots are overkill, a good pair of Sperry boots are my go tos. I got mine last year during the sale and wore them almost every day during the winter. So00 cute and easy to wear, love ’em!
Halogen® Asymmetrical Zip Boiled Wool Blend Coat
$199, Now $129.90
Last but not least, the most exciting coat I’ve seen in years. Finally, something that I can wear during the day or out at night that’s more than a pea coat! I just love the cut of this coat as well as the colors it comes in – both the grey dove and the black are gorgeous.
Note: A shorter thermal jacket from the North Face like this is great for running around too. I got mine two sales ago and still wear it constantly.
So that’s it!! Whew, what a list! I hope you find something (or many somethings) to love here and that you’re able to act in time to get a great deal!
