A few days ago I started a survey intending to document the experiences others have had while partaking in shipcourse. After going through responses of the first survey, and after reading some critiques and questions yall wanted to know, I think it's time to share the second and final survey of my research!

Meaning: A neutralshipper is someone who is neutral on shipcourse (ship discourse) and/or doesnt want to be involved in shipcourse for whatever reason. Most neutralshippers have the same stance as proshippers (anti harassment beliefs) but dislike being associated with the term/use the term “neutralshipper” to avoid any type of harassment from antis. Many neutralshippers are also neutral just because they have had bad experiences with both sides and wish to be associated with neither side.

What is Neutralship?

Neutralship, often known as ship-neutral, refers to those who are "neutral" or unconcerned with shipcourse. They may be pro- or anti-leaning, or completely unaligned.

Neutralship also means your anti harassment. That implies you will not bother someone about their fandom preferences, or pass judgment on their fantasies or ships.

Neufic - those who identify as neufic may be pro- or anti-leaning, or wholly unaligned; they are neutral on fiction and do not engage in ship discourse

There's an organisation that's responsible for training people into antishippers. One young lady (we're calling her "Antiship-chan" for now) finishes her training and gets given her first target to eliminate - "Proship-chan"

They battle each other over several days and eventually become friends somehow. There's also an Even More Evil Organisation that wants both "Antiship-chan" and "Proship-chan" dead so they're forced to team up to defeat them. And that's when they start catching feelings.

Now I personally am not too f r e a k y so I visualise both of them as adults but I do like the idea of "Proship-chan" being able to shapeshift to look older or younger at will. She would absolutely use that ability to fuck with "Antiship-chan".

“Class of ‘09” is a Visual Novel for Antis (but not the pure kind)

Please note that this was made out of during the discourse involving controversal contents involving minors. This was out of an lack of proper understanding of the Shipping discourse and the definition of pro shippers. Please note that I’m against purity culture and the call for the sanatization of the online space, but I do advocate the proper use of content tags and ratings (like in Ao3 and Newgrounds).

l mediaI know it sounds strange, but I’m starting to believed that “Class of ‘09”encapsulates everything wrong with Visual Novels; Namely, ones that depicts teens in questionable situations.

For the uninitiated, “Class of ‘09” (not to be confused with the television show of the same name) is a visual novel created by the team behind the abridged series “Batman Beyond Ill”, which is where that meme about the glass ceiling of oppressed gamers came from. It’s there you play as Nicole, a self proclaimed Sociopathic teenager who has to to survive the last two years in high school before graduation; all while having to navigate through the constant cat calls from her peers and superiors, along with the misogyny and racism that permeates the schools of the southwest United States in the late 2000s. Despite the grim premise and subject matter, like drug use, manipulations, and self-harm (all of which can be enacted by Nicole), it’s often depicted as a “Dark Comedy”, thanks to the clever writings of scenarios and the brilliant delivery of the voice actors within the game itself.  It was because to that, many look up to the trouble teen as she’s the embodiment of the cruel societal system that normalized those kinds of “problematic behaviors”.

It was through her I would like to make her a poster child of AntiShipping and Lewding; namely anything that involves minors in some capacity. Like she often kick Jeremy’s (the school’s Weeb) fantasies down both out of disgust and self-gratitude. That and to make fun of her creepy older brother (who’s an adult, by the way). Here what I believed she will  say to ProShippers if she were to interact with them:

“So you aged them up? It doesn’t denote the fact that you wanted to fuck them!”

“Just because they’re both teens and fucking doesn’t make it any less gross that you depict it in explicit detail, you sicko!”

“‘Oh it’s imaginary, it didn’t hurt anyone’. Well, imagine my fist in your face!”

“Try telling that to your Mom. I bet she’ll send you to therapy before someone call the police and have you registered as a sex offender”

We need a mean girl who went through countless sexual harassment from both her superiors and peers to state what’s wrong with how teens are depicted in adult media these days.

Some things to note as well:

1. There are bad people on both sides but most of the horrendous bs comes from antis, not proshippers. To deny that, is to either be ignorant or stupid. With that being said, shitty proshippers are part of the problem, so fuck you specifically to them.

2. This shit is objectively stupid, and chronically online. I only care cause it's baked into fandom at this point, I run a fandom blog and a lot of my values line up with the pro side. The Anti-Censorship of some proshippers (similarly to the "Save Morality" of some antis) is annoying to see on posts about people fighting over pixels on a screen. It's not end all be all that deep even if there is some correlation.

3. Pro vs anti is essentially black and white thinking. People who say "everything's okay except ___" need to pick a side because this is not a nuanced topic. Either everything's okay or nothing at all. Neuship and peacefic are pretty much useless stances in context, but I've found myself agreeing with a lot of them regarding "this stuff is dumb" or "this isn't fun for me to engage in so I'm taking myself out of the conversation".

Proship, at it's very core, is a combination of four general principles--

I made this because I want to offer a place for people who feel despised in fandom to take refuge. Specifically, people who have been, are being, or even fear being dogpiled/ostracized for their art, fan interests, or association with anything accused of being ""proship"".

And to be clear right off the bat: I generally understand "proship" to just mean the belief that one can indulge in fiction about horrible things without necessarily being horrible themselves. Proship is a belief. But a lot of people accuse things of being "proship" too (for example, calling a fictional pairing "a proship" or calling the act of indulging in taboo kinks "proshipping"), because the people who attack what they perceive as "proship" believe that proship means "content that endorses pedophilia/incest/abuse/etc." and/or "supporters of those things".

And frankly, at this point, the label is useless, but I just want people to know, in no uncertain terms, that this is absolutely not an, "uwu you were criticized for being a child predator, lemme support youwuwu" blog. I especially have to make this clear because some of the people I intend to give support to do not identify as proshippers, so they might genuinely have a different interpretation of what that word means and then get the wrong idea of what I'm saying, ya know?

Anyway!

You do not have to be a proshipper or enjoy taboo fiction to send an ask. In fact, I made this with neutral- and anti-shippers in mind, because fandom bullies absolutely do not discriminate. I've seen them attack totally sfw, non-shippy art. I've seen them attack other "antis". And I know there are some people out there who are mostly in anti circles and are afraid of stepping out of line. I know there are people who do not like dead dove content and have no desire to make it, who still get attacked. People who actively go after others to appease their friends, and still get attacked. People whose first language isn't English, who get attacked for not conforming to American cultural standards.

But here, you are safe from all of that.

You do not have to out yourself. You can give as much or as little detail as you want, to keep your identity safe. And I will listen and be here for you, and try to provide links to other understanding spaces too.

Whether you want to vent about being in a sticky situation with your friend group, or want advice or new perspectives, or want to send positivity to other followers of this blog, or if you just want me to share your GoFundMe or something... I'll try to give everyone a spot!

Unfortunately, I do have to set some boundaries so that I don't hurt myself. I wish there didn't have to be any limits on how much support I can give you, but I can't emotionally handle talking people through things like a therapist would. For proshippers, there's a server called Profiction Hub that directs to other servers, all of which are proship-friendly, but may have other rules that don't fit your needs (such as some being anti-endo and some having a maximum age cap). Only some of them have either of these rules btw. One server is even open to neutral-shippers as well.
