earlier I was making my way to my apartment and I found the neighbor's teeny siamese kitty sneaking around the hallway

she's this itty bitty cute little thing with blue eyes and cream-and-gray fur pattern--and my neighbor basically takes her everywhere with him, I see them together all the time, and occasionally she sneaks into the hallway, so I've gotten into the habit of knocking and letting him know when I find her because sometimes he doesn't realize she's out there

and so far this kitty has been very timid--at first she ran away when she saw me, and then later she'd tuck herself against the door and make herself very small, and she didn't want to sniff my fingers or purr or talk to me or anything, which, hey, that's okay, a big scary unfamiliar person is big and scary

but today I found the kitty in the hallway and she was walking away from me, but not in a "I'm running from you" way, so I went "prrrrrt?"

and she went "MRRRRRAOW???" and came back to me with her tail shivering and we had a little back and forth meow conversation while she wiggled around on the floor and this time when I knocked on the door, the poor neighbor guy had just gotten out of the shower, and the kitty either didn't realize the door was open or she didn't wanna go back inside yet, so he told me he'd grab her in a sec and so I kinda left them to it

another thing that's always on my mind, and i think that ro has talked abt this too a while back i'm pretty sure she's actually the one that put it in my head in the first place but it's just that while he seems so big and tough, he's always helping out the elderly and the kids in his apartment building. like i can't stop imagining him carrying in his neighbor's groceries up the stairs,, she's just this older lady who also has a cat (who btw really likes jason lmao) aaand she always tells him that she has it but jason never budges he's got the grocery bag in his hand so fast that the woman doesn't even have the chance to try and keep it from him. they always walk up the stairs together and the lady sometimes tries to apologize for being a little slow and jason is so so quick to brush that off with a small smile, encouraging her to tell him abt her day. HE'S SUCH A SWEETHEART OK:(((((((((((((

aaand i feel like some of the kids were definitely a little afraid of him at first bc well.. he's all big and tough and he has scars and a motorcycle but then maybe one day they're playing in the yard and their ball gets stuck and jason happens to see it and he just helps them out without them having to ask him and he gives them a grin while shooting it in the hoop (he can be such a show-off omfg) and when he hears the young kids cheer for him he knows that he's finally cracking that scary idea of him that they have in their heads yk?

Last night we took a cat in because we were worried about him, but so far an owner hasn't turned up and we can't really afford to keep him. Me and my mom had met him before and assumed some neighbors at least kind of took care of him, like leaving out food and things like that. He has an injury and a tag in his collar that just says "your cat has an injured paw" but it looks pretty old. The other time I had seen him he had a different injury I believe, and his fur is always dirty, but he knows how to use a litter box so probably used to be someone's. People don't microchip their pets here so we're just relying on word of mouth + HOA group chat. He looks about one and always wants attention. We think maybe he's missing someone? Our cats are tolerating him surprisingly well a few hours later at least

PS: Neighbors confirmed he has been a stray for a long time. I think I have a third cat now, at least until we get him ann owner

i understand not liking cats. there are just some animals that aren't our favorites and that aren't easy to get along with. what i don't understand is the absolute revolt that people who don't like cats feel towards them. it baffles me, the way people will literally shutter at the mention of cats just because they don't like them.

i myself am not a dog person, but i don't hate dogs or dislike them enough to treat them the way people who don't like cats treat cats. my initial reaction wouldn't be to kick, shove, run over, or shoot one. i wouldn't let loose a dog on the street just because i didn't like it. it's an animal, and it's meant to be cared for. if you don't like an animal and you see it while you're out, you leave it alone. if it's in your possession for whatever reason, you take care of it until you find someone who will care and love for it.

the world gave me reasons to potentially hate dogs, but i didn't take the bait. if you can't handle owning a cat, that's perfectly fine, and if you don’t like them, that's fine too. however, treating them/their existence like they were made to haunt/disturb you is not okay. all animals are just trying to get through life like the rest of us. the things we don't like about them, especially in regards to domesticated animals who often depend on us, are not enough to treat them like trash.
