sorry to be a bit of a hater but i do wish youtubers weren't so scared of making their videos just like, "reviews", whys everything gotta be a "video essay" all the time. every day my recommendations are filled with 40 minute videos titled "_____: An Underrated Masterpiece" where the first like five minutes are reading the wikipedia definition of "masterpiece" in a somber voice with dramatic themed text on screen. please just tell me how good or bad you think something is and use the rest of the runtime to explain why. you dont need to put on all these airs
#i know the ahem. channel. of some awe....... that whole situation kind of scared people off from using the word review#but like we live in the future now. you can make a review. i believe in you#AND LIKE i like a good video essay!! but im picky. because i read academic shit for fun#when i see a capital E essay im expecting theses. im expecting sub headers. im expecting multiple examples AND footnotes with asides#(and i know this is a controversial topic but i do expect them to be long. because if you read aloud a 4 page journal article its gonna)#(take a bit of time LOL maybe i just read too much academia shit. but i dunno man. theres not a lot you can say about like a big huge)#(topic with multiple angles if you only have like 10 minutes. maybe i just talk too slow. i need to breath <3 )#theres other formats too. surveys. retrospectives. informative essays. persuasive essays. etc#and like i also read lots of reviews not just of like movies and books but of like gallery exhibitions and shit!! they can be extremely#interesting a lot of work and some really beautiful writing!! nothing wrong with a review!!! theyre important#but i do get annoyed with like. the odd air of pretention i see in a lot of video essays. especially cause its usually not backed up by#the content. i dont care for those airs in academia either. nor do i like it in documentaries#just talk naturally. you'll find your voice. there might be pretention in it in the end but it'll be yours#if im making sense. i hear a lot of people talking in a pretention that is not their own. something they put on because thats what they#think they should do. you need to find your own pretention. be pretentious in a way that feels natural to youuuuuu#hell im being pretentious. about this LOL but like its my own. it is a pretentiousness ive built over the past half decade#play around. write a blog. i dunno. find your voice dear youtubers. find your voice

u know at the beginning i kind of thought kfp4 was gonna do something with shifus whole. deal. but they didnt like at all which is a shame
#the plot was extreeeemely thin and formulaic as it stands imo#kind of held together by the strength of the action sequences which i liked#but idk it just felt weird that po said an objectively correct thing (why isnt shifu the spiritual leader hes clearly better at it#) and i kind of expected that shifu would have something to do where he learns not to be so. idk#i guess faith in his own judgement rather than like. just kind of Accepting His Destiny or whatever. they make gags about how#hes clearly kind of upset about this whole thing#especially with tai lung having a speaking role its just like. well i wish shifu was here so you guys could talk this out#given how the idea of destiny kind of shapes their worldviews#i think what i wouldve done is a destiny is not so set in stone thing#bring shifu on the quest but when po has his vision he sees zhen betray him and decides to trust her anyways while shifu advises against it#because The Universe Said So and po is like what if..the universe is wrong. or what if we can change its mind :D she seems like a good kid#maybe she just needs some good influences :D and shifu is like -'_- thats fucking stupid po <- thinking abt his shitty son#and maybeeee they could even have tai lung be more involved in the latter half because his dad is here. and they can talk#idk i dont know if this is anything i just kind of wish the movie was giving More

i don't need to be reminded that this game was originally headed by the kingdom hearts dude. luna going "i know you will" echoed the sora/kairi moment at the end of KH1 so loudly that i could tell it was him from a mile away.
#pp: ffxv#n.oct/l.una tried to be s.ora/k.airi so bad#man. if this game doesn't get a remaster/remake like 7 in a decade or two. JUST to redeem it#it had so much going for it and it just. has Not sold it#and i know there's side content and books and movies and stuff but like... ideally each piece of media should stand on its own#i shouldn't need extra content to get the full picture. i should WANT the extra content because the main media was so good#so far i'm just. kinda lackluster on n.oct as a whole. and l.una as a whole. they're so boring#the chocobros are fun and have humanity. the world building and sheer scope of the land is mindboggling#but i'm struggling to truly care about n.oct and l.una has been shown as nothing but this wholly benevolent good being#which makes her feel so flat and untextured. stories HAVE done the holy pious girl love interest WELL before - gestures @ TOS#but l.una just doesn't have anything else to her (yet that i've seen) and it's kind of sad. she could've been rad af#her show down with l.eviathan was already So Neat. she was UNFLAPPABLE#but then a.rdyn just. appeared like a ghost and ruined it lol

So this month I’ve jumped back into my willex chiropractor au (after not working on it for almost a year) and it just passed 20k words tonight!!
#that’s crazy!#this started as (yet another) thing that I thought about but wasn’t gonna write but like… look how it’s grown#and it’s feeling… good#like I know where it’s going mostly and what parts I want to write more about#but it definitely has taken on a life of its own#a whole lot less chiropractor and a whole lot more of willie and alex watching movies together?#which seems random but go off I guess#I need to give them more variety in their bonding actives but it’s not my fault willie is a movie buff he’s the one who is steering the ship#i am not in control of this fic I’m just a vessel#tbh thought I might try a mini nanowrimo this year but forgot after the first day#so now it’s just a write more when possible month which is also quite helpful#things are happening and it’s all coming together#though I also feel like I said that last year when I actually was doing nano but things went off the rails for valid life reasons#I’m just seeing what happens no pressure but I do actually want to post this at some point and share this world with people#jatp#julie and the phantoms#willex#fic writing

#i wantttttt to like the beetlejuice sequel (just saw the trailer) and i don't want to be a hater. however#i dont knowwwww i mean theres a lot of callbacks to the original. which is good. its just#maybe its seeing some of these same effects done in cgi. or something#like it just looks like every other modern movie except w some of that beetlejuice imagery#im assuming the sandworms are cgi. bring back the claymationnnn bring back practical effectssss#idk im just really getting to hate the way movies nowadays look that are likely shot digitally and are just so subdued color wise#is any of this making sense.#like thinking of the original beetlejuice like whoa the colors were popping! greens reds purples!#and theyre so important and tied to the look of the movie and how it sticks in your mind#(im sorry. beetlejuice has always been one of my favorite movies. but anyway)#and now the sequel just looks ehhhh. you know#also we still should have had beetlejuice goes hawaiian instead. if we had to have a sequel#plus the story of the sequel seems so dependent on the story of the first movie like is there going to be anything original?#what made the first movie so good was not only was it a fun different storyline of these ghosts and everything#but it was also a good satire of the yuppies of that era as well as the idea of the afterlife and ghosts and all that. which was different!#im probably not making all of my points clearly and this doesnt really matter anyway but anyway#i need movies to be standalone movies. i dont want everything to be part of a series#i dont want beetlejuice to be called beetlejuice 1#bc then ill be saying 'back in my day we had only one beetlejuice'#LIKE. yes some movies are really good and you could watch a whole tv show more with the characters in that movie#but it doesnt actually have to be made. thats for you to imagine in your mind#like wow i love those characters in beetlejuice. i wonder what it would be like going forward for these people to live with ghosts#but thats for you and your imagination!!!! ugh i dont know is any of this making sense i ask again. i keep trying to wrap up this post#but im very passionate about films and as i think about my own main movie idea/screenplay#i love my characters and i could put them in dozens of scenarios that would be very funny for them to deal with#but i dont think they need a five film series. the one movie is enough for the main storyline#ok im going to eat something. enough bitching from me about the current state of film

At this, Randall smiled gently as he looked from his parents to his beloved, giving her hand a little squeeze, as if to encourage her to accept-he could see that his parents really did trust and care for her, that they regretted the way they had treated her, and wanted to make things right. It was a touching notion, given how alone Emily had been for so long, and he could only hope that she would accept the key, and the offer to become a part of their family.

I started a piece of art today which is based on some plant species* that I think would be good to colonize Tim in @gunpowder-tim’s headcanon of the Persephone Tim headcanon; so it’s art based on a headcanon of a headcanon of a headcanon 😅 [sweat simle emoji].
It’s gonna take a long time I think, but I am planning on posting it here even though it’s just gonna be plants and no Tim (because I am much better at drawing these little doodle plants than drawing people).
*so the art is basically of real species we have on Earth, but I maintain that they wouldn’t have the same plants on the City, so in my brain his plants are just similar to these ones.
#i don’t know if i should main tag this. thats always hard for me to tell#persephone tim#i am taking a break now because for some reason it took me almost 4 hours to paint some ghost pipe.#i am researching more species too. im looking at a lot of liverworts. but they are ‘obscure’ enougb thats its not always easy to find if-#they are parasitic or not. i know *some* species of liverwort are. and depending on how im able to draw them i might include non-parasitic-#species because i need the space filled a particular way#im also tired because i stayed up until after 6 am and then didn’t take my sleep meds (because it was 6 am)#oh there’s also gonns be some mushrooms included#ive explained it before but basically the fungus being an intermediary is a thing we see in real life (although not between plants and-#animals afaik) and it makes sense because fungi are closer related to animals than to plants.#now i suppose thats not necessarily true on the City. because we dont know if they are homo sapiens or not (this would make possible-#implications for the other life on the plant). however for now I have no hcs regarding that. its easiest to go with their life works the-#same as ours. but their species are different if for no other reason because of evolution (over time)#well thats whats easiest and most interesting and fun *to me* which i realize is because i am a biologist and happen to also crave as much-#scientific accuracy as possible. but thats not everyones cup of tea. not everyone wants to spend hours searching about different parasitic-#plants to choose one for this and learn about how they interact and what not. probably *most* people wouldnt think this hard about it.#and that’s okay too. if you like to make up your own plants whole cloth and not worry about it aligning with realy world biology. thats-#okay too. do what you like.#(unless you are a tv/movie/book/etc which is supposed to be set in our world on our earth. mood: you just got back from watching Luca Guadagnino's Bones and All and all your time on byler tumblr put your brain in immediate analysis mode as to how different visual cues, shot choices and recurrent themes would play out in the movie, to the point you could guess a large part of the ending from one of the first scenes—
—but somehow those same film concepts applied to a multi-million dollar show by two guys who went to film school & constantly reference how they use film concepts to tell their story (which are pointing to a particular ending) are wrong because "they would never break up their flagship couple:"

stories about extreme human survival (be it real or fiction) always touch my heart in such an interesting way. humans ultimately are animals and one's survivor is written to our genes.
#particularly love the scene in 127 hours where aaron cuts his hand off (be it is the peak of the whole movie and where it all boils down to)#and james francos acting brings it this animalistic feel to it#his mouth covered in blood which looks like he ate raw flesh but its actually his own blood#and the tense score that stops immediately as hes freed from the stone#at his lowest hes wriggling around in desperation and anger trying to get free from his prison#and his sudden return to humanity as the desperate need to get out of here ceases to exist#im just rambling dont mind me#i also love to think how i would react in such an extreme situation#would i have the balls to gut through my own forearm and break my bones and severe my nerves?#or would i have the knowledge of the basics of survival in that situation#or even if i would could the panic completely wash over me making me unable to act#nobody ever truly knows until they are in that specific situation

listen luke evans has the pipes of an angel and the character design is dilftastic but the latest adaptation is committing the greivous sin of making scrooge's problem that he's grouchy and doesn't like the holiday so it's an automatic L
#realized i might sound like im being tongue in cheek but im not#it's a story about wealth distribution and class stratification#also it has enough antisemitic undertones as is#dont make it worse by maki g his crime not liking christmas#the only thing that makes me like the story is generally the turning point at the end of the 2nd ghost's visit#when scrooge gets his own cruelty spat back at him#like i have many feelings abt the whole thing#and the villanization of ppl who dont want anything to do with christmas has made me :/ since i was a kid#but suffice it all to say#i genuinely consider the new movie an L by the fact that Scrooge's problem is that he hates christmas#more than it is that he. idk. abuses his clerk while openly acknowledging he underpays him as well.#advocates workhouses and a bootstrap mentality#and is a malthusian social darwinist#so obsessed with the accumulation of capital that he *doesn't care* that he's causing harm to others#like yeah the character has sad aspects to his backstory but like. fndjfjdkfjek#part of the whole point is that he was making actively harmful selfish choices for years leading up to the present#and the only way to even hope to make up for them was to radically change everything about his relationship to capital#its not *just* abt being nice to the cratchitts. its great that he does become nicer to bob#but the point is also that he needs to stop valuing money above quality of life for *everyone*#and idk man idk it bugs me when it gets simplified down#anyway. -sits down with my Jim Carrey mocap version-
