Like there's, I like sasuke cause he's a cool dude, very wholesome do tell, and then there's, I like sasuke cause the government also tried to eradicate my people group that one time and holding empathy for that dumbass kid teaches me to examine a my own experiences with compassion, honestly what a downer like who cares.

Man I really hadn't gotten as far in the manga as I thought. I just finished ep 267 of shippuden and it's gearing up for the Gaara vs his dad fight, which I remember being where I dropped off in the manga. Bc I'd been keeping up with new chapters for a while, but with all the war talk... idk it just didn't capture 14 year old me that much. So I stopped keeping up.

Now, though. I find all the war tactics interesting hfkshdk it has me wanting to play a fire emblem game again. Hmmmmmm

One of the things that always really fascinated me about Sakura's character is how manipulative she is.

I was rewatching the anime with my partner because it was their first time, and when Sakura finds Sasuke to beg him not to go to Orochimaru, my partner said that they were a little disappointed that romance was emphasized in that scene over friendship, and I said, "You know, I think Sakura would have told Sasuke she loved him whether she did or didn't. She knows that he cares about her. I think Sakura would say anything she had to to get him to stay."

And the most obvious example of this is when she does that exact thing to Naruto before the Five Kage Summit, lying about having feelings for him in order to save him, and that scene is what I was referencing when I made the comment, but throughout the course of the anime, there are several other moments where Sakura either outright lies and cons or uses her feelings as a weapon to get her way.

She does it right when Team 7 is formed, when Naruto plays the eraser prank on Kakashi. Her inner monologue shows that she thinks it's hilarious, but instead she puts up this facade. She berates Naruto because she thinks it'll make her appear cooler to Sasuke, and she tells Kakashi that she told Naruto not to do it and that she would never do something like that because she wants to portray herself as not only superior to Naruto but as the good one, the innocent one, the one who can do no wrong.

She does it to Sai, Kiba, and Lee when she knocks them unconscious so that she can go kill Sasuke by herself. She does it when tells Sasuke that she wants to join him so that she can get close to him. She does it again when, at the end of the war, she begs Sasuke one last time. She even does it in Sasuke Retsuden when she cons Penjira at cards and reveals that she's been doing the same to Tsunade for years. And these are just off the top of my head, I'm sure there's more.

Basically I'm saying that everyone should consider themselves lucky that Sakura's on Konoha's side because if she was the one with the villain arc? She'd be ruthless.

I have decided I am in fact desperate enough to write it myself sssoooo who's interested in brainstorming/editing/beta reading etc with me?

I started rewatching Naruto recently and my brain is filled with character study (thank you so much @meowticta for giving me the name of that tag/trope) of Kakashi exploring mental and physical disability and his relationships with people. I was thinking ANBU time.

I also want to do an iruka x kakashi thing but not like a main plot, I want it to be mostly about kakashi and while he finds ways to get closer to people he finds iruka being close in a different way. Or maybe kkiru being a totally separate fanfic so I can fully focus on the character study aspect.

I don't have a lot of ideas for specific plot but I know what I want to explore.

Obviously he's traumatized and in this time would be severely depressed, probably suffering from ptsd type symptoms, I'd like to include psychosis because I personally experience psychosis and its important to me that it's represented well.

I also see a lot of parallels to physical disability in him. His chakra depletion is a very fantasy equivalent of a chronic fatigue disorder, burning energy very very quickly and then need to recover for a long time. That's something a lot of physically disabled people relate to including me.

I think I want it to be 7-13 longer chapters with a cohesive story. Anyway if anyone is interested please feel free to reply or message me! Or if you don't want to continuously help but you have an idea you're more than welcome to just give that.

I'd also love to talk to partially blind people on how to write that. I know he's not technically blind but he can't use one eye like 90% of the time so I want to talk to people who are partially blind on how that can feel.

My opinion about Luffy and the world of one piece.

What does Luffy or One Piece in general mean to you?

I'll start! This is completely my opinion and my personal feelings!

I should start off my saying I am a hard person to please. I'm extremely "picky" with every aspect of my life. For example: I hate it when my food touches, even when I'm eating it. I eat it in order. there are exceptions though. I do like for my collard greens and rice to touch but only if I put them together. I still plate them separately.

It's ridiculous and sooo annoying but its a serious thing for me. It's like trying to swallow a pill. I physically cannot force myself to swallow anything that dont fit those standards.

It's like this for every aspect of my life. Books, movies, JOBS, tv shoes, etc..

the first time I tried watching one piece i turned it off maybe not even a minute after watching the first half of the first episode. I remember seeing nami at a party and her looking out to see the whirlpool and I got the wrong idea about what the anime was about so i swore off it.

Maybe a year later I saw a instagram post. It was basically saying how they didnt understand how they found a pirate story about some kid made of rubber kicking everyone's asses entertaining. I was in disbelief and kind of took it as a challenge. It sounded absolutely ridiculous to me at the time so I gave it another shot.

As soon as Luffy popped out of that barrel knocking one of those guys out saying he'd catch a cold for sleeping right there? I was laughing. ME? LAUGHING? To say I was sold would be an understatement.

Then theres the part where Luffy expresses his dream to be king. It wasnt because of some overused reason like very other anime like childhood trauma. It was because he wanted to. Thats it and thats all. I was blown away. My heart raced with excitement after that speech from luffy and I binged watched the episodes from then on.

I was obsessed. (Still obsessed) Back then I was still in highschool and I was binging the episodes from the moment I woke up, during all my classes and lunch, after school and falling asleep to it.

I think the only anime I binged like that would be HXH another anime I'm still obsessed with.

One of the funniest episodes of one piece for me is 497. I was rewatching the marine ford arc and I was in tears laughing at this episode.

But back to the question!

As a young woman of color? Luffy is a dream to me. Luffy is the perfect mixture of malcom x and MLK. He's what I think the world needs. He's one of a damn kind, there is NO character like him or story like one piece PERIOD and there's no amount of hate from naruto fans that'll make that less true.

The only character that is unafraid of crying, laughing, fucking up, tripping up in front of friends and enemies alike.

insanely selfish but he's strong. He can have his friends, hell he can make new friends and have them ALL by his side or far away from him. All alive and fucking thriving, why? because he fucking said so. He's strong in more ways than one. He has that luxury.

He's unafraid of asking for help. He has never once acted as though everyone else is beneath him and he can do everything by himself.

Gets pissed when he finds his vest with flowers sewed into it, wanting to be a manly man but unbothered at eating all the love themed food sanji makes specifically for nami and robin.

He has asked forced Pirate Hunter Zoro to join his crew? Nah thats just zoro his best friend and the guy who ate stomped out sand covered chocolate rice balls out of respect for the little girl he saved from Helmeppo.

Cat burglar nami? Nami the navigator. Her maps and weather skills are unreal!

Sniper king the liar? Yup but he's a damn good sharpshooter.

Black Leg/ Vinsmoke Sanji isnt he apart of a family of comicbook villians? Thats just Sanji! One of the best chefs in the world!

Tony Tony Chopper the raccoon dog that happens to be a doctor? Oh no thats chopper. Our crews miracle treasure. He's a talking reindeer monster.

The demon child is on your crew? Huh? Demon child? You can't mean robin! She's a good friend of mine and she's an archeologist! I'd have to kick your ass if you think otherwise! :D

Cyborg Franky? Oh yeah I couldnt take the sunny without him! They're a package deal!

The humming swordsman? Oh you mean brook! He's a talking, singing afro skeleton not to mention hilarious! The part about him being a sword-swinging musician was just a plus!

The first son of the sea jinbei...A fishman? Hell yeah! He's THE fishman! Jinbei is a good friend of mine and the 10th member I've been looking for!

Luffy's crew is a dumpster fire of diversity. That right there is rare within itself. I mean it's a Japanese show, yet most of the main characters aren't japanese! They originate from a little bit of everywhere across the globe!

They all look different and act different. They are all flawed and yet Luffy accepts them with open fucking arms with his TRADEMARKED grin nearly splitting his face in half!

Speaking of accepting them! Luffy is always overjoyed when reuniting with his crew. Jumping to give them hugs, screaming his hellos, jumping up and down, lunging forward to give them hugs, and waving with excitement at the sight of his friends.

I mean Luffy is unfucking matched. Even his voice is one of a kind and so fucking satisfying for his dialogue??

Two of my favorite quotes from Luffy are:

"I'm kicking your ass and wrecking your birdcage."

"Speak up for yourself, aren't you the leader of these guys? SAY SOMETHING ALREADY!"

Luffy's very name holds mind-melting weight.

I just recently found out that his brother ace was the one that came up with "Gum gum Rocket." Something I'm now pissed at OPLA for giving Garp the credit of.

Luffy as a captain doesnt do major plans or specific orders. He says something and his crew either follows along or finds their own objective for example the punk hazard arc when law asked luffy if he was going to leave his crew on the island to do what they said they wanted to do and leave with him to fight kaido.

Luffy refused saying if his crew was staying to get their own things done then so was he and that Law had to get used to it quick.

Luffy is freedom in physical form. There one second and gone the next. Something that gave Law heart palpitations.

ALSO SCREW YOU LAW FOR TELLING CHOPPER TO SHUT UP WHEN HE TOLD YOU BYE IN WANO!

Luffy has no rhyme or reason for doing things the way he does other than the fact that thats just who he is. Something that only Zoro and Robin TRULY understand. Chopper understood this recently, just before the time-skip.

For example when big mom assumed luffy was there in wano to pick a fight with kaido and luffy denied it sternly.

confusing everyone around him including nami and carrot.

He went onto say everyone not only responsible but associated would be getting their asses kicked.

And thats EXACTLY what happened.

Zoro wasnt even there for that and he was already cutting the majority of their members in half.

MIND YOU. LUFFY AND HIS CREW DIDNT PLAN ANYTHING. NOR WERE THEY AWARE OF THAT PLAN. ALL THEY HAD WERE DISGUISES AND THEIR WITTS.

You'd think that with every plan luffy screws up they'd be major consequences? NOPE bc he's stronger than that. Everyone else would have to adapt or get their asses kicked.

jinbei fought with luffy in the fishman island arc. not wanting luffy to make matters worse, instead wanting him to be seen as a hero to which luffy refused saying he's not a hero and that he had to get to his friends... until jinbei said and i quote. "Luffy, I'll let you have all the meat you want! Just do as I say!"

To which luffy agreed after a few more pleas.

friends and enemies are one in the same to him.

You want to hit him? Fine he doesnt care. but Lie to him? He's about to shove his foot up your ass.

You want to take credit for his wins unless your law or kid? Hell yeah! Couldn't have done it without you!

You want to defend him? Dont bother. This is his business. Stay the hell out of it.

You want to cry? Suck it up! Crying wont fix anything so get the fuck up and do something about it already!

You want to ask him for help? Sure! Anything! As long as you're the right person asking!

You want to call him a hero? Literally might knock your lights out.

You want to put him down in history and tell everyone what he and his crew did? Don't bother he's not interested.

I mean the list goes on and on. I can talk about luffy and one piece for HOURS and never get bored.

Luffy is a dream to me. I tear up thinking about him and wishing to be apart of that world for even a day.

Thats what Luffy means to me.

I just rewatched vote2 and OMGGGG idk if I'm mad at kishi for not getting them together (cuz I know they probably wouldn't be) or just mad that he ended it there and didn't explore narusasu's relationship after all that, but I have so many emotions 😭 I'm just mad that nh and ss got together 🙄 (I wouldn't call them canon, cuz sns love for each other is canon, nh and ss is forced)

Also I love Sasuke so much in this fight that I'm also mad we didn't get to see more of him like this (openly showing his emotions, laughing, crying, being happy for once, accepting Naruto)

But anyway, do you know which fic is best to read after watching the ending? I already know lots of canon fics but idk which one is the best to read. I wanna fil the hole in my heart 😩

I still really liked it in the Anime, it’s just that I wish there were a few things they’d done differently as shown in the Manga. Like Sasuke screaming for sure, he's in so much pain and it's so important to show that, especially considering VotE1 where Naruto was screaming. Now it's a reverse and for good reason.

And nah, there’s no way they’d actually get together in the sense that a romantic relationship becomes surface level text and it’s spelled out for the reader.

You know, I was thinking about this and ‘Naruto’ is a story where Kishimoto used every literary device in his creators’ arsenal in order to show the story. Even in dialogue and text, he still pays attention to how something is said and the timing of it. That’s why, in order to understand a message or to pick up on sub-text, context is so important. That's what makes something 'true'. Characters don’t always say what they mean… in fact, the best characters don’t imo. There’s so much heart in the story and you can see it in the slightest expressions, in body language and Kishimoto definitely has a way of showing what he considers important and what isn’t. 

Brt on the other hand… well, it’s just told. It’s called authorial assertion or fiat in literature. They don’t show us why or how something happened, there’s no justification, evidence for any declarations and don’t even question it, because ‘it is just so because we said so’ and they don’t even know either.

... now this, took a minute to answer in some ways. There a lot of ships I like, so this was really easy and hard to answer at the same time. Some ships it was an immediate yep yep and others I had to go '... but is it a fav of all time, though?" But I think I got it narrowed down.

So here we go, fav ships of all time from any media, no particular order. I didn't get any specific no. to do so I'll just list a handful until I can't think of any others. (Anyone who comes across this that sees a ship on here you don't like and feels the need to say something about it, stay in your lane this ain't about your opinions it's about mine.)

The main FMA ships

Arakawa Hiromu, nigga, you cooked. Imma just put the FMA ships as one and leave it there because if I do it separately, we'll be here all day. But if you wanna see me diving into why I like these ships in a manic ramble, here's a post I made on that here. The romance in FMA is literally a category and a discussion all on its own that I can go about on for hours. FMA has the best romances in shounen so anyone who has consumed FMA will know what I'm talking about. Like, whenever anyone tries to use a manga being 'shounen' to justify shitty romantic writing, I point at FMA's brilliant riding. An animanga's demographic is not an excuse for terrible executions in romance. EdWin, RoyAi, LingFan, AlMei and all the side ships drank and left no molecules.

NaruSaku

Toxic shippers, again, stay in your lane, I don't feel like dealing with y'all any day. I have been shipping this shit for years, always have, always will. Ignore the fact I ship Sakura with literally everyone from the Akatsuki to Hinata to Sai to Shikamaru. (Y'all I used to look up Kisame/Sakura fics, unironically TAT). (Same for Naruto honestly, I've shipped him with Sasuke, Ino, Temari, Tenten, the list goes on and on.) The way Sakura goes from finding Naruto annoying to almost dying multiple times to keep him safe, I will never EVER be over that. Naruto's love going from puppy to something as passionately red as the thread of fate itself. The MinaKushi parallels. I have a lot (and I mean a lot) of ships in Naruto pertaining to these two, but NaruSaku is my absolute favorite. Like it was literally confirmed that Sakura got over Sasuke and then it got retconned for some bullshit. Saying it with my whole chest, argue with a wall, it should have been them. I won't dog any other ships, but yeah, it should have been them. 699 chapters of Naruto being in love with one woman, I sing the praises everyday.

SakuHina

Hinata's prince charming is literally Sakura. I have a whole ass fic I am slowly, painstakingly writing about what Naruto would have been like if Hinata had a crush on Sakura the whole time. I just think they're really cute together, have amazing chemistry and balance each other out. I didn't expect to like SakuHina as much as I did but here we are.

Kyoru

I mentioned it before in another answered ask but Fruits Basket was my first manga (if you're curious what my first anime was, it was Yu Yu Hakusho) and Kyoru was probably my first OTP. There are two characters I think upon so many rewatches and rereads that were prime game for who Kyo and Tohru could have ended up with had things been different (which, I do really ship as well. Multishipper here guys) but I'm not mad about the endgames that we got. From start to finish, Kyo and Tohru's relationship is beautiful and you can feel how strongly they feel for one another. It's like, wow, Takaya really gave us one of the best ships in shoujo and didn't even apologize for it.

Klance

Red + Blue = True. They had chemistry, supplemented for what the other lacked and we really don't need to have me diving into the bs that was VLD. That show wasn't even out long, my god, it was a mess.

NeuviFuri

Should I explain to you the romanticism of Hydro x Hydro? Oof how I love them. A Genshin ship after my own heart, truly. But if anyone is trying to against MiHoyoverse (I was here from the Mihoyo days, leave me alone) in terms of seeing who ships NeuviFuri more, we all lose. They literally paid people to do an ice dancing program in NeuviFuri cosplay, paid a guy to make a companion piece to Furina's song from Neuvillette's perspective and several other animations concerning their relationship in some way. But the Mihoyoverse shenanigans aside, it's the build up of 400+ years of working together, the care they still have for one another and yes the complementary abilities and color palettes. Not enough time in the day to talk about them, I don't think.

Almost thought I wouldn't have a gif for them, then I remembered THEY GOT A MOVIE. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe is one of my favorite books in the world. I have reread it once a year religiously since 2017 when I first discovered it. This is such a beautiful novel and relationship and if you haven't had the pleasure of reading it or the sequel, please do yourself a favor and buy it or rent it from your local library. It's just, the way Ari has been in love with Dante for so long and didn't even realize it but it's so, so clear to the reader because of just how he talks and describes him? I don't even want to go to deep into this one just in case there's someone here that hasn't read this book because it deserves to be read and experienced blind. Just, just please y'all read it.

Hopefully everyone has had a great week! I know there has been some exciting news that dropped this week and maybe something happened in your day to day that really lightened the load of the horrors that persist in life.

I've been working on everything but writing but I have gotten some in while I had the motivation. Lately I have been binge watching Naruto Shippuden; you may have seen a few of my silly posts because I cannot get over how queer it is, and I will die on this hill. (This is my first time really sitting down and rewatching it since it aired in the US) But between working on drawing wips, watching Naruto and my kiddos new love for minecraft I have not been able to play Dragon's Dogma 2 as much as I want. The fic has been processing in the back of my mind while I do other things so that has been helpful when I can return to writing.

He felt a clinch in his jaw tighten as is impatience grew. Erik never cared to wait too long and the drowning heat from the sun made the wait feel extensive. He tried to rearrange his long legs to cross in a different position but nothing felt comfortable for him. Still, he tore small flowers out of the ground around him and played with them between his fingers to distract himself. There was a moment he considered saying something but as soon as he parted his lips to speak, he closed them tightly into a pressed line once again.

“Out with it, Erik.” Quil finally spoke as his attentions still focused on the journal that was within his lap. The other party members sliver hair was tied neatly back, and his robes hung loosely off of his body, he looked incredibly cool and calm unlike Erik felt. “Are you sure that is what you want?” Ambrosius snorted from his position before rearranging his posture to lean differently on the stone wall. Ambrosius’ cat eyes were impartial and focused on their surroundings but there was a slight smirk that subtly mocked Erik’s impatience.

Hey guys, I'm back at it again. I was recently rewatching Naruto and it resurfaced feelings for favorite characters. I thought that sweet Iruka would fit this idea perfectly.

I have an idea for a longer story for the 20th fanfiction. It's a concept I've been thinking about for a while, but will take a bit of research.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

With a heavy sigh of exertion, you dropped your hands from the whisk and bowl. While being a early bird, transitioning into the baker life was fairly easy. Mixing made up more of your prep than you’d like to think about though. But the happy looks on your customer's faces made up for it.

Especially a certain scarred sensei's.

“Naruto, you seriously need to get your act together. A ninja must live a life of honor and sacrifice, not of childish pranks.” Iruka shook his head as he reprimanded the troublemaker. Hands on his hip, he leaned down to his eye level. “You need to take training and school seriously. It may seem like a game right now, but your future depends on your present actions.”

The blonde shuffled his feet and pouted at the ground. “It was just a prank.”

Shaking his head, he sighed. “No matter how innocent a prank may start. It can turn into a dangerous situation.” Putting a hand on the boy shoulder he said. “Do you understand.”

With a sullen nod he finally met his sensei's gaze. “Yeah.”

Patting the boy’s back, he let his stern expression drop. “Good.” Looking at his watch he cringed at the time. Glancing between the time and his pupil, he realized there was a decision to be made. If he escorted Naruto to class, he wouldn't have time to go by your bakery. Which would put a major damper on his day. On the other hand, he could take the troublemaker to the bakery. But what kind of mischief the blonde could get into, especially in your shop.

“OK Naruto, I’m going to make you a deal. “ He pinched the bridge of his nose at even the thought of what he was considering. “If I treat you to breakfast, do you think you can behave until we get to the academy?”

The boy nodded enthusiastically.

With a prayer the duo headed to your bakery.

The bell rang and you turned to the door. Smiling widely at the sight before you. “If it isn't my favorite customer.” A beeping came from the back and you clapped at the sound. “You guys couldn't have come at a better time. The Anpan is ready to come out of the oven. Excuse me while I go get it.”

Iruka could feel the heat building on his face. A love sick smile graced his mouth as he stared at the door you went through. He couldn't get over your kind nature and luscious full body. It was like you were crafted by angels themselves.

He was broke out of his fantasy by Naruto failing to hold back his laughter. “Wow sensei, they should change the name of the bakery to blush blush bakery.”

His blush spread even farther at the comment. But he didn't have a chance to reprimand his student.

You return with a tray full of red bean bun that smelled heavenly. As you faced them your eyes widened a bit. “Now Naruto, what have you said to make your sensei so flustered?”

Now the blush had crepted all the way up his ears. He quickly out his hands over the boy’s mouth. This kind of thing was exactly what he was afraid of. “Oh, trying to talk his way out of punishment. When sometimes the best thing to stay out of trouble is to just stay quite.” He gave the boy a pointed look to try and get his message across.

The blonde nodded enthusiastically. “Yeah yeah. What he said.” He rushed over to you and grabbed a bun. Then yelped when he realized how hot it was, juggling it between his hands.

you squinted in suspicion between the pair as you gave him a napkin to hold the treat in. “Uh huh.” Wrapping a second one you passed it to Iruka. “By the way.” You have the blonde your full attention. “What did you think of the milk bread with?”

Swating your hand at the boy, you shook your head. “Not today, but I’d be more than happy to send you to class with lunch.” Facing Iruka your smile widened. “In fact, I would love to give you both lunch for the day.”

He waved his hands in front of himself. “We couldn't possibly take advantage of you like that.” His flush, that was starting to fade, flared back to life. Forget angel, this woman was a goddess. He had no idea that she was feeding Naruto. Though he had noticed his lunch containing baked goods more often than not.

With a hand on your hip you frowned. “I’m the one offering, so it wouldn't be putting me out.” Tapping your chin, you slammed a hand in your fist. “What if you paid for lunch, but I throw in desserts for free. That’d be fair, right? “

Seeing that you weren't going to back down without sending them off with free stuff, he nodded.

Clapping your hands together, you were beaming. “What sweets are you boys in the mood for?”

The blonde squinted at the display case. “What’s the sweetest thing you have?”

Without missing a beat, Iruka's mouth was faster than his brain. “She can’t put herself on the menu Naruto.” His blush had somehow doubled and migrated to you as well. “That is to say that you're the sweetest person in the village!”

“Oh.” You weren't sure how far the flushed travel, but your entire body felt as if it was a flame. Busying yourself with wrapping the lunches, with as many extras as you could sneak in. Including a note for Iruka to read later.

Thankfully by the time you had everything packed away, you both had calmed down a bit. “I hope you boys enjoy these.” Handing Naruto his along with a pat on the head. Then facing Iruka, you gave him another dazzling smile.

Your hands brushed as he took the box, they were as plush as the rest of you and warm. He fought off a shiver and gave what he hoped was a handsome smile. “Thank you.”

“Anything for my boys.”

The answer to "what do i think about this" is, honestly, that I don't think about it X) I watched the whole show without engaging with the fandom at all (for fear of spoilers, initially), so I was able to experience it without being exposed to anyone else's thoughts, and now that I'm done I generally still avoid poking around, because devoting mental energy to opinions that I find bizarre/not supported by the text doesn't enhance my fandom experience.

Kakashi and Sasuke's relationship is one of the most compelling things about the series to me. I was very surprised when I finished the show/manga and first exposed myself to the fandom only to find so few people invested in them, but at this point I've (mostly) stopped asking myself "what show was everyone else watching" and just settled into enjoying the show that I watched, because that's more fun for me. I can't convince people not to dislike Kakashi if that's what they want to do. I do find it a little weird, because I don't think that's what the story is asking from us, but as long as people mind their business and aren't bugging me on my own blog, they're free to do what they want.

I know it can be frustrating when there are people hating various characters for "things that aren't real," but the fact that these criticisms aren't "real" is precisely why I generally avoid engaging with them. For Kakashi, specifically, there are certain things people can say that will immediately make me stop taking them seriously - "projecting" is one. "Bootlicking" is another, but again, these terms are so wildly inaccurate that I'm not interested in talking about them. The manga and the show are easily accessible; if people want to rewatch/re-read them, they can.

In general, I just prefer to avoid engaging with most of the fandom negativity I see. I think overall most of the rancor I've stumbled across boils down to people engaging with the story in very ungenerous ways, if that makes sense, and that's not how I prefer to read/watch things. Like - back when I was still in the middle of watching the show, I remember someone sent me a message saying that they loved seeing me talk about the story with earnestness/joy, and it was such a lovely message to receive, but it also made me pause and wonder for a second if this was really an uncommon enough thing to be remarked upon. Wouldn't that be the default? Aren't we all here because we love the story and the characters so much? But the truth is that sometimes it does feel like large chunks of fandom spaces (not just Naruto, I mean; I've certainly experienced this elsewhere) are very focused on being negative about "things that aren't real," as you said. Like - people calling Sakura "abusive" for bopping Naruto on the head when he says something rude, when this is not something the text is even remotely trying to say about her. People writing off Jiraiya's entire storyline because of the non-consensual spying on women - which, yes, of course, is disgusting and wrong. Obviously. I am very aware of that. However, I can simultaneously recognize that the story isn't really interested in that or intending me to read it like that; the voyeurism is written as a joke (yes, I understand how gross that is) and there are a hundred potential personal and/or patriarchal and/or genre-related and/or cultural factors that may have gone into Kishimoto writing this particular fail. If I want to understand and appreciate what the story was ACTUALLY trying to communicate with Jiraiya (that he's an idealist who gave up on the world when everything went wrong, who turned to shallow pleasures of the flesh to distract him from the pain of his disillusionment, and who was finally restored to his former faith after meeting Naruto), then I have to mindfully set the voyeurism aside and go, "This writer wrote a gross thing, and I recognize that, but I'm also not going to fixate on it, because I can simultaneously appreciate/find meaning in what he was really trying to say."

I think some of the Kakashi complaints out there very much fall under this umbrella. If I have to see one more person frothing at the mouth about Kakashi briefly tying Sasuke (a qualified ninja who has already demonstrated his ability to escape rope restraints and whom Kakashi has been individually mentoring, sparring against, and connecting with for a month) to a tree for approximately sixty seconds - honestly. I don't know how to tell people they're missing the point, so I don't bother.

Ultimately, the fact of the matter is that people are entitled to dislike any character that they want, even for contrived reasons. As long as they're doing their own thing in their own space and letting me do my thing in mine, we're good.
