One of the things that always really fascinated me about Sakura's character is how manipulative she is.
I was rewatching the anime with my partner because it was their first time, and when Sakura finds Sasuke to beg him not to go to Orochimaru, my partner said that they were a little disappointed that romance was emphasized in that scene over friendship, and I said, "You know, I think Sakura would have told Sasuke she loved him whether she did or didn't. She knows that he cares about her. I think Sakura would say anything she had to to get him to stay."
And the most obvious example of this is when she does that exact thing to Naruto before the Five Kage Summit, lying about having feelings for him in order to save him, and that scene is what I was referencing when I made the comment, but throughout the course of the anime, there are several other moments where Sakura either outright lies and cons or uses her feelings as a weapon to get her way.
She does it right when Team 7 is formed, when Naruto plays the eraser prank on Kakashi. Her inner monologue shows that she thinks it's hilarious, but instead she puts up this facade. She berates Naruto because she thinks it'll make her appear cooler to Sasuke, and she tells Kakashi that she told Naruto not to do it and that she would never do something like that because she wants to portray herself as not only superior to Naruto but as the good one, the innocent one, the one who can do no wrong.
She does it to Sai, Kiba, and Lee when she knocks them unconscious so that she can go kill Sasuke by herself. She does it when tells Sasuke that she wants to join him so that she can get close to him. She does it again when, at the end of the war, she begs Sasuke one last time. She even does it in Sasuke Retsuden when she cons Penjira at cards and reveals that she's been doing the same to Tsunade for years. And these are just off the top of my head, I'm sure there's more.
Basically I'm saying that everyone should consider themselves lucky that Sakura's on Konoha's side because if she was the one with the villain arc? She'd be ruthless.

Sakura: *covered in blood, shaking, absolutely traumatized*
Naruto: Do you think she's gonna be alright?
Sasuke: It's her first time killing an enemy ninja, beating him to death out of pure instinct-
Naruto:
Sasuke: Of course not, dumbass
(something that should've happened in part 1)

Rock Lee Relationship hc —✩𓏲⋆.🍵✮˚
Pairing(s): Rock Lee x Gn!Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bro is down bad for you, I don’t make the rules
Yknow how he was automatically smitten with Sakura and sent her those weird kisses?
Yea well it’s you, not her
I have two ways I imagine rock Lee being when trying to get with you
He’s either bold and unapologetic about his feelings, he wants you to know how you make him feel!
Or he’s still unapologetic, just shy and more giddy if anything, just at the thought of you
Honestly I’d like to think hes a combination of both
Like at first he’s terribly direct to the point where Tenten is seriously considering giving some advice
Which she does end up doing
He ends up confessing his more than obvious feelings for you with an over dramatic blush and is honestly so sweet
He even has some flowers
You end up accepting and so commences your relationship
If you have some sort of friendship with Naruto he’d ask you if you were seriously dating “bushy brows”
💀 blud can’t even be saying anything when Sakura won’t even give him the time of day (in the anime)
The only people are aren’t really shocked at your relationship is everyone
Yea, everyone
I mean lees devotion to you before you even got together was enough.
Anyway, if you’re more of bold person whose affectionate then Lee is more than delighted
He relishes in the hugs and any sort of affection that you give him.
Honestly I can imagine him trying to be like the gigga chads and stuff 💀
Man just loves you Alr?
In front of you he’s pretty outright giddy but when you’re not looking? Down bad
He’s literally giggling about what you do and say- not exactly to anyone in particular but his teammates and guy are there to witness it anyway
Guy is supportive, tenten lowkey regrets giving him advice and Neji just wants Lee to shut up
Rock lee is lowkey always open with his affections with you
He’s always determined just in general
Which is where you come in
Honestly another possibility of how you two got together
Lee is strong, don’t get me wrong
But the “power of youth” and some flimsy leg warmers aren’t always going to keep him safe
If you’re a ninja and you’re worried about him then he just argues that you can protect him, and him you
Him protecting you is so true no matter who you are- civilian, ninja, whatnot
Literally the only way anyone could ever get to you would be over his dead cold body
Not that he’d let whoever is coming at you to even kill him in the first place
If you’re a ninja he likes to train with you
I was honestly torn between him not wanting to spar with you or him really wanting to and going all out
I’m certain he’d do the latter
You’re a ninja and you’re both trying to improve, so ofc he’d put his all into it
And if you’re not one and you’re a civilian then he’d more than happy to incorporate you into his training
He’d probably have you sit on his back while he does pushups or something similar 😭
Love wise, lee is so passionate
The moment you get together he’s legit never letting go and is seriously devoted to you
I wouldn’t even be surprised if Lee bought an engagement ring before you started even dating
He’s always bringing you gifts, food and making sure you take care of yourself
He’s very serious and determined to take care of you even if you’re fully capable
And if you try to do the same?
Flustered to the max
He gets really flustered when you kiss him too 😭
I wouldn’t be surprised if his soul almost detached the first time you did.

I’m here to spread my wlw SasuSaku agenda >:) Take these quick lil doodles! (closeups and yapping under the cut)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don’t even ship regular SasuSaku that much, but toxic wlw SasuSaku? Absolutely.
Like, imagine they had the same homosexual tension that Sasuke has with Naruto. As an example, the second image there is my own take on that one shippuden scene where they see Sasuke again for the first time and he and Naruto have a *moment* but what if it was sakura getting her highly homoerotic moment?
Like I’m thinking from the start the dynamic is COMPLETELY different. Sakura would be socialized to see Sasuke (the most conventionally attractive according to canon) as competition, but then she’d see the darkness in her and get the urge to take care of her like a lost kitten and UGHHHH
And Sasuke would be locked in with revenge she would just see Sakura as an immature annoyance. She doesn’t engage with the “rivalry” she fully believes she’s better. But she’s also secretly insanely jealous because Sakura is everything that was taken from Sasuke (bright, innocent, like a spring breeze, has friends and parents…) so she tries to fully ignore her. Like, will NOT acknowledge her existence. And Sakura whenever she tries to extend the olive branch will get lethal cold shoulder, so she just stops trying and gets even pettier.
All the while they’re developing feelings for each other. Sakura wonders why it hurst so much to see her #1 op walking into the the abandoned compound alone.. Sasuke wonders why her heart squeezes when Sakura laughs, she thinks it must be due to hatred but no bb girl you’re just gay.
(Cue loathing from Wicked)
When they get put on a team together Sasuke can’t avoid Sakura anymore so she switches it up and becomes bratty. LOVES getting a rise out of her (totally not because she finds it cute when she gets all red up and her cheeks puff up nonono) and Sakura takes the bait EVERY. TIME.
Sakura struggles to get along with Sasuke the whole time. Sasuke constantly teases her about being a “deadweight” paper ninja (never calls her weak tho) and it really gets to Sakura. They used to be evenly matched at the academy (in terms of academics) but now she’s suddenly so far behind. She sees Sasuke kicking ass and she burns. To her, Sasuke is everything she is not, and can never be.
But like every time plot would happen they’d always have each other’s backs. They both trust each other and rely on each other and they know so so much about one another from CONSTANTLY watching each other (Sakura seeing Sasuke as her goal, Sasuke seeing Sakura as the ghost of what could have been :( )
They eventually do become friends. Sakura still wants save Sasuke from herself and Sasuke almost wants to let her.
And when Sasuke leaves Sakura is DEVESTATED. Sees it as a personal failing that she wasn’t strong enough to get her back. (Cue training montage)
And in shippuden Sasuke would still tease Sakura and they would fall back into their banter and UGHH
They are NOT good together and it IS a disaster but that’s what makes it so fun <3
I love SakuIno as well, but they already resolved their issues. I need girlfriends that TRY TO KILL EACHOTHER in a gay way <33
I just think they want to tear each other apart <3
Sorry for yapping but DO YOU SEE THE VISION????
Anyway if anyone read all of that I love you <<333
Okay thanks for witnessing my mental illness byee~~~

CW: SMUT, Minors DNI 18+
Read on Ao3
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
You were shrugging on an extra sweater when a soft knock sounded at the door of your hospital room. A perpetual chill seemed to have settled in your body since waking up. A bizarre side effect of Itachi’s genjutsu, maybe?
“Come in.”
The door slid open, and Kakashi limped inside. “Yo.”
“Hey.”
“So you threw yourself in front of Itachi, huh?”
He studied you with admonishment in that dark grey eye. You crossed your arms over your chest. “Why are you looking at me like that? You did the same thing.”
“I have the sharingan.”
“Well, clearly it wasn’t much help.”
“He could have killed you, Y/n.”
“He could have killed us both.”
Kakashi slid his hands evenly into his pockets. “To be honest, I’m not sure why he didn’t.”
He leaned against the doorway, still eyeing you carefully. He was gauging your reaction, likely trying to figure out how mentally damaged you were from the encounter.
“I can’t imagine that was easy. Having to fight him.”
You tilted your head. “I’m sure it wasn’t easy for you either. You were our captain.”
“I wasn’t in love with him.”
A heavy weight had settled between your shoulders. Itachi wasn’t a monster. Despite the things he had done, he hadn’t wanted to harm you or Sasuke. He was simply playing the part, no matter how far he had to go with it.
You weren’t sure you could have done the same, made the choices he had, but you didn’t blame him for it. You couldn’t.
You didn’t want Kakashi to do that either.
“He didn’t want to hurt me.”
Kakashi blinked. One of his silver brows shot up, a betrayal of his typically well-hidden emotions. Of course he thought you were insane.
He shifted against the doorframe, likely trying to figure out a polite way to ask what the hell was wrong with you. “Naruto told me what happened. If it was anything like what he did to me…”
You closed your eyes, drawing in a deep breath in through your nose.
“I have to tell you something.”
“You do?”
“This has to stay between us.”
The deep lines of a frown were visible under his mask. “Alright.”
You sat back on the edge of the stiff mattress and told Kakashi everything. He considered your words carefully, and you were grateful for it.
“How do you know Itachi was telling the truth?”
“Because the reason he gave Sasuke never made sense. And you know what Danzo is like.”
Kakashi did. The man had convinced him to spy on the Hokage as a teenager. He had attempted to pluck his sharingan straight from his head. He was a conniving, brutal soldier who desired to protect the village at any price, even at the cost of some of its own citizens.
He could see how gentle, quiet Itachi might have been swayed to give up his entire clan in exchange for the promise of peace. His sense of duty to the village was strong, and his desire to protect his little brother was even stronger. Danzo wasn’t above threatening a child, or even killing one.
Sasuke’s life could have very well been at risk. It likely still was, if Itachi had been telling the truth.
“This can’t leave this room,” you reminded Kakashi. “If Danzo found out-”
“It’s our heads on a platter.”
Despite the sense of constant unease that bit at your insides, things seemed to improve over the next couple of months. Sasuke wasn’t isolating himself as much. He seemed to actually enjoy the missions and outings he joined his teammates for.
He even requested that you return to your weekly movie nights. The event had fallen to the wayside for the past year, but you were picking it back up again. Even Sakura and Naruto joined a few times, and they brought Kakashi along with them. The compound hadn’t seen so many visitors in years.
It felt nice to hear the house full of laughter and friendly voices.
“Is the popcorn ready yet?” Naruto called from the living room.
“Almost!”
“You’re so slow,” Sasuke complained.
You carried the wooden bowl in from the kitchen and swatted his hand away when he tried to reach for it. “And you’re so not getting any.”
You lifted the bowl over his head and handed it to Kakashi. Sasuke rolled his eyes and slumped back against the cushions next to Sakura.
“Keep it away from his rude little hands.”
“Yes ma’am.”
“Tch,” Sasuke muttered. “Traitor.”
“Y/n and I were teammates first,” Kakashi reminded him.
You took your seat next to him and grabbed the remote, hitting play. Jiraiya’s Tales of a Gutsy Ninja had been adapted into a movie the year prior, and you were curious to see if it was any good. The book hadn’t sold as well as his others, but the story was solid. You and Sasuke had rented it from the video store earlier that day, despite the deadly eye roll he had given you.
“Oh come on! You used to love that book!”
“I’m not a little kid anymore.”
“Well we’re not going with a scary movie. Kakashi doesn’t like them, and I don’t want to give Naruto nightmares.”
The kid was still terrified of ghosts, after all. Despite having the power of the nine-tailed fox inside him, he still acted like a regular twelve year old boy.
So Tales of a Gutsy Ninja it was.
You settled in beside Kakashi, wrapping a fuzzy blanket snugly around your body. Naruto leaned over Sasuke, snatching a handful of popcorn from the bowl. He half-crawled over his teammate in the process.
“Get off me, loser!”
“Sasuke, be nice to your teammate.”
“Kakashi-sensei, will you please pass the popcorn?”
“Sure thing, Sakura.”
The man held the bowl over Sasuke’s head, watching with a crinkly eyed smile as the boy glared at him.
“I’ll share some of mine with you, Sasuke,” she offered.
“Whatever.”
Still, he took the offered snack from her hands. You smiled to yourself. A dizzying wave of nostalgia washed over you.
Movie night wasn’t just a tradition for you and Sasuke. It was something that began years ago, for you, Shisui, and Itachi. Sometimes Tenzo and Yugao joined too. You even managed to get Kakashi to show a few times, though those had been far and few between.
It was a pleasant feeling, sitting there with Sasuke and his team, but you couldn’t help but feel like someone was missing. It was silly thought, stupid even, to hope that he could be there beside you. Itachi was still a rogue nin. He hadn’t shown his face in months.
You hadn’t even caught sight of a summons since the attack. He was clearly staying away.
Was it fear of getting caught after his and Kisame’s attempt to take Naruto? Or was it guilt for what he had done to you and Sasuke?
You weren’t sure, but, despite everything, you ached to have him beside you, to snuggle against his side like you used to do. You always ended up falling asleep on him halfway through the movie. He never seemed to mind.
Kakashi suddenly shifted, accidentally brushing his hand against yours. He stammered out an apology, flushing up to the tips of his ears. He really was afraid of intimacy.
Sasuke shot him a dirty look.
“It’s fine,” you assured Kakashi.
You shifted further against the arm of the couch, giving him a little bit more space. By the time the credits rolled around, you were out cold. You woke to the smack of a pillow hitting you in the face.
“Sasuke,” Kakashi admonished.
“She always falls asleep!”
“You little…” You sat up, rubbing your eyes and glaring at Sasuke.
You formed a series of hand signs, and spit a torrent of water into his face. The satisfied smirk dropped from his lips. He was now sopping wet and shoving his damp bangs out of his eyes. Naruto and Sakura giggled.
“Walk your friends out please.”
He grumbled something under his breath and followed them out the front door.
Kakashi stretched, shoulders cracking, and rose from the couch. “I can help you clean up.”
You shook your head. “It’s alright, Kakashi. I’ve got it.”
“Are you sure?”
“They really didn’t make that much of a mess.”
You scooped up the stray pillow and the extra blankets you had pulled out. You began to fold one, and Kakashi stepped forward, grabbing the other end to help you.
“Thanks for inviting me tonight.”
“Of course. You’re team seven too.”
“Still, it was…nice.”
“It was.”
“If you ever want to…” He trailed off, seeing the sudden flash of panic in your eyes. “Never mind.”
You offered him a sad smile, pulling the folded blanket from his hands. “I’m sorry, Kakashi.”
“It’s alright. You’re still in love with him.”
You bit the inside of your cheek and nodded.
“I understand. Has he shown himself lately?”
You shook your head and sighed. “Not once. And I still…it’s silly, right?”
You prepared yourself for the judgmental glance, for the pragmatic speech, but none of that came. Instead, Kakashi simply shook his head and offered you a crinkly-eyed smile.
“No. Not silly. Matters of the heart never are.” He let his hand fall onto your head, ruffling your hair, like you were one of his genin. “Call me if you need anything.”
And then he was gone, slipping out the door after his students. Sasuke returned a few moments later. He helped you sweep up the stray popcorn and straighten up the sofa, and then slipped into his room after a quick goodnight.
When you finally slid beneath your own covers, sleep evaded you. You tossed and turned, trying to get comfortable. The bed suddenly felt too vast and too cold for you to be laying in it alone. You ached for Itachi’s warmth, for the peace that lying in his arms had always provided you.
It wasn’t fair that he couldn’t be here now, helping you raise Sasuke, joining you for his team’s events. It would be simple if you could just forget about him. If you could let him go and move on, and take Kakashi up on his offer.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t that simple. There was nothing wrong with Kakashi, but your love for Itachi was seared into your heart. It would never leave you. No matter what happened, no matter how long he disappeared for, your heart would always belong to him.
In the weeks that followed, Sasuke’s good mood remained. He still had the attitude of course, but the crushing darkness he had been leaning into was nowhere to be found. Hope fluttered in your chest for the first time in months, and you allowed yourself to think that maybe the battle with Itachi wouldn’t have any long term effects on him.
Then the escort mission happened.
Naruto and Sakura returned from the Land of Tea with an unconscious Sasuke in their arms. Genma showed up on your doorstep and announced past the senbon between his lips that Sasuke had been injured, yet again.
Once you were sure he would be alright, you pulled Naruto and Sakura out into the hall to demand a detailed explanation of the mission. They told you that Sasuke had been defeated by another shinobi named Aoi, who taunted him about being a disappointment to the Uchiha clan. In the end, Naruto defeated him while Sasuke was unconscious.
When you tried to broach the subject with him in the hospital, he shut you down immediately. He refused to even speak about it, leaving you frustrated and nervous. The medics wanted to keep him in the hospital for observation to ensure that Aoi’s lightning chakra hadn’t inflicted too much damage. You offered to sleep there with Sasuke, but he insisted you didn’t. You made the trip to and from the compound several times a day to bring him food and check up on him.
It was during one of these visits that you recognized Kakashi wandering in your direction, a book leveled in front of his face. You called out to him.
“Oh, Y/n.” He lowered the copy of Icha Icha. “I was just about to stop in and see Sasuke.”
“Me too.”
A loud crash echoed through the air. You and Kakashi both tensed, looking around for the source of the noise. It appeared to be coming from the roof of the hospital. A cloud of flame suddenly erupted over the building.
 A fire-style jutsu?
You and Kakashi launched yourself up the concrete. You raced up the side of the building, praying to every god there was that this didn’t have anything to do with Sasuke.
Angry, shouting voices began to echo down as you got closer. Your stomach twisted as you realized one of them was his.
You made it to the roof, landing just beside Kakashi.
To your horror, Naruto and Sasuke were racing toward each other. Sasuke’s chidori glowed blue in his hand. Naruto had formed his rasengan. Sakura was running toward them, likely intending to intervene and stop them.
You and Kakashi bolted toward the fight. Your fingers closed around Sasuke’s wrist. Kakashi grabbed Naruto. In moments, you were throwing them apart, tossing them to opposite sides of the roof.
They slammed into a nearby pair of water tanks, crushing the metal and causing water to pour onto the roof.
“What do you two think you’re doing up here?” Kakashi asked, his visible eye narrowing. “That was a little intense for just a sparring match, wasn’t it? What’s wrong with you two?”
Sasuke glared and yanked his hand from the crumpled metal. Naruto brushed himself off, looking guilty.
“Sasuke,” you snapped. “What were you trying to do, kill him?”
His dark eyes narrowed as he stared up at you. He said nothing. His shoulders were still rigid with tension. His eyes flickered between you and Naruto, as if weighing the consequences of going after him again.
Guilt gnawed at your insides. Yes, Sasuke was stubborn, but you had never seen him act so recklessly.
All the progress he made after Itachi’s attack had clearly been erased. His confidence was shaken once more. This had only solidified his need to become stronger, to have vengeance, and he was willing to hurt his teammate to achieve that.
“You need to watch this sense of superiority you have.” You felt anger building in your chest, but you couldn’t stop it. “That chidori wasn’t the size you’d aim at a comrade!”
He muttered out a soft sound of annoyance. Your temper flared.
Didn’t he understand how serious this was? He could have hurt not only Naruto, but Sakura as she attempted to get between them. Not to mention the property damage they’d inflicted upon the hospital.
“When are you going to grow up, Sasuke?”
He didn’t respond. Instead, he walked over to the edge of the roof and backflipped off of it. You fought the urge to roll your eyes as you glanced over at Kakashi. He looked pained.
“I’ll go after him,” you muttered.
You tailed Sasuke through the village, keeping a safe distance back so that he wouldn’t notice you. He paused on a tree branch to catch his breath, and when he did, you took advantage of the opportunity. You pulled some ninja wire from the pouch on your hip and bound him against the heavy trunk.
Sasuke squirmed, struggling against the bindings in a panic, but you quickly hopped down in front of him.
When you landed, he shot you a murderous glare. “I didn’t think you’d sit still for a lecture.”
His dark brown eyes glinted with something feral. You sighed.
“Let it go,” you said softly. “You have to forget about revenge.”
“What?” he snapped. “How can you say that after everything Itachi’s done to you?”
You closed your eyes in frustration. You didn’t blame him for asking it, but the question was a difficult one to answer. Itachi had destroyed their family. He had changed the course of Sasuke’s life, and yours, forever.
“Listen to me,” you begged. “You can hurt Itachi. You could kill him with your bare hands, and it will not make a bit of difference. You’ll tear yourself apart. At the end of the day, you’ll still feel empty.”
Sasuke stared up at you, dark eyes studying yours. “Are we still talking about me?”
Your breath caught in your throat. Sasuke was too perceptive for his own good.
“No. I’m telling you this because I’ve lived it. Don’t make the same mistake I did. You can’t fill that hole with more death and pain. It doesn’t work that way.”
He frowned, shifting his eyes away and studying the tree bark beneath him.
“It didn’t matter that I got revenge, because my entire life fell apart around me anyway. The only reason I’m here now is because someone else pulled me out of the dark.”
“Itachi?”
 “Yes.”
Sasuke scoffed. “And look where that got you.”
“It got me here, with you, and that’s something I wouldn’t trade for anything.”
“If you could change things-“ he began.
“I can’t, Sasuke. And neither can you. All you can do is move forward. Become stronger, not to defeat Itachi, but for yourself and the people you still have left.
You leaned forward, poking him sharply in the center of his chest. “You’re what matters, not Itachi.”
He glanced down at the bark. Shame swam in his eyes.
“Promise me,” you pleaded. “I’ll teach you anything. Any jutsu I know. I’ll train you harder and I won’t hold back. Just promise me you’ll let this go.”
He drew in a deep breath, closing his eyes for a brief moment. “Okay. I promise.”
Your shoulders slumped in relief. You released the wire, reeling it back in. “Alright. I have to head out for my mission soon, but I’ll see you when I get back, okay?”
He nodded, still resting back against the tree. You reached down, ruffling his dark hair.
“I love you, Sasuke.”
You headed off toward the compound, knowing he wouldn’t say it back. You didn’t expect him to. Sasuke never returned the words. He showed it with his actions instead. Wordless glances, small gestures. That was how Sasuke told you that he cared, that he loved you as much as you loved him.
You knew he did, but you were never sure if that would be enough for him. Your love couldn’t bring his family back. It couldn’t erase the horror he had been through.
You prayed it was just enough to give him a little bit of hope, to make him believe that peace could be found in the rubble. Ironically, the thought was something that Itachi had instilled in you, years ago. Maybe Sasuke would one day believe the same.
Your mission to the Land of the Sea went off without a hitch. It only took a few days to escort the merchant ship to its destination. You were joined by Raido and Anko, both capable shinobi who made excellent teammates. You even managed to return to the village an entire day ahead of schedule.
The three of you finished the mission report in the Hokage Tower and arrived at Lady Tsunade’s office to drop it off. When she began to dismiss the team, she called out to you. “Y/n, will you stay behind for a moment?”
You nodded, exchanging a worried glance with Anko before she and Raido departed. The door fell shut behind them softly. You felt the tension in the air as soon as they left.
“Would you like to sit down?” Tsunade asked. The look on her face was grim.
“No, that’s okay.”
Had you done something wrong?
She took a deep breath. “Sasuke Uchiha left the village the night you departed for your mission.”
You blinked, staring at the Hokage as if you weren’t sure exactly what she was saying. “Left?”
“He was seen departing with four ninja from the Hidden Sound.”
Panic flared in your chest. A sharp ringing failed your ears, as if a bomb had just gone off. It may as well have.
“Orochimaru took him? We have to-“
Lady Tsunade held up a hand. The rest of the words died in your throat. Her honey brown eyes took on a hard edge that choked you into silence.
“Despite the fact that we believe he left willingly, a team was sent to retrieve him. But they failed in their mission. Sasuke almost killed Naruto in the process.”
“What?” The word left your throat as a strangled gasp.
The memory of Sasuke attacking Naruto on the hospital roof flashed in your mind. The anger and hatred burning in his gaze hadn’t been lost on you then, but had he really meant to kill him that day?
Maybe he had, and you were just too blind to see it.
You couldn’t separate the current Sasuke from the sullen little boy that used to beg to cuddle after nightmares. The one that was still terrified of losing you.
“We believe he’s seeking out Orochimaru in order to increase his own power.”
Your heart was slamming in your chest, heavy with the knowledge that Sasuke had turned his back on the village. That he had turned his back on you to join a monster like Orochimaru.
Your legs trembled. You resisted the urge to sink to your knees, instead choosing to grip the hard wood of Tsunade’s desk.
“I know this is unpleasant news. You have given up much for Sasuke.”
“No…” you whispered. “No, that’s not…I’ve never…”
She gazed at you with pity in her eyes. She pursed her lips, glancing toward the ANBU guards stationed at the entrance to her office.
“Is there someone we can call for you?”
“There’s no one.”
“I see.”
“What if I go after him myself? I can hunt him-”
Tsunade’s lips were pressed together in a grim line. “We can’t afford to send another jonin out of the village on an extended mission. There’s no guarantee you could find him quickly, and we’re still too vulnerable.”
You closed your eyes.
“I’ll keep you stationary in case he returns.”
“There’s no need for-”
“Take a few weeks for yourself.”
The harsh edge to her voice told you that it was an order, not a suggestion. She likely didn’t trust your judgement in this state, and her assumption was fair. There was also no guarantee you wouldn’t go rogue from the mission and still attempt to search for Sasuke.
Still, you ached for an assignment. The thought of staying in that empty house without Sasuke, while Orochimaru could be doing anything to him, was already driving you mad. But Tsunade’s decision was final. You knew there was no room for argument.
“Thank you, my lady.” Your voice was nothing more than a hollow whisper.
“Genma can escort you home if you’d like.”
“There’s no need.”
You slipped out of her office, running completely on autopilot as you made your way through the village. The sun was too bright. It beat down on you as you drifted down the streets, paying no attention to anything in front of you.
You must have bumped into several different people, but you barely noticed. All you could think about was Sasuke. His promise had seemed sincere the day you departed. You thought he would at least think about giving up on his quest for revenge, that he was truly considering your words.
You had been naive.
The house was quiet and still when you entered. As you stepped inside, you realized there was a scroll sitting on the front table. You snatched it up and tore it open, knowing that it was from Sasuke. Tears filled your eyes as you scanned the page. You pressed your fingers over your mouth, suppressing the sob that threatened to erupt.
Nee-san,
I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you from Itachi, and I’m sorry for breaking my promise and hurting you like this now. I will get stronger. I will be able to protect you one day. When I restore the Uchiha clan, there will always be a place in it for you.
Thank you for everything you’ve done for me.
Sasuke.
You sank to your knees in the doorway, unable to hold yourself up any longer. The peace you fought so hard for Sasuke to attain had slipped right through your fingers. No matter how hard you fought for it, for him, your worst fear came true.
He was gone.
Itachi sat at his desk in the Akatsuki hideout, drumming his fingers on the dark wood and debating with the demons inside his head. He had promised himself that he wouldn’t return to you. He swore he would stay away, refusing to draw you any further into his web of misery.
He fully intended to keep that promise, but the latest report from his summons set him on edge.
When the bird arrived, there was an eerie silence in the home that lasted for days.
Sasuke was no longer coming to or from his training sessions. An extended mission, perhaps?
He hardly saw you either. You didn’t leave the house once, and all of the curtains were drawn. The bird could hear you occasionally moving through the halls, but it was none of your usual bustling around. It was like you were a ghost in your own home.
Had something happened to Sasuke? To you?
One morning, his summons watched as Kakashi ambled through the deserted compound. The man walked over to your front door and knocked.
He tried repeatedly for about ten minutes, softly calling out to you. The look on his face was grim, almost guilty as he shoved his hands into his pockets and walked back down the steps.
Itachi’s summons could sense your chakra in the house. He was confident Kakashi could do the same. You were ignoring him, but why?
As he passed the branch the crow was resting on, Kakashi glanced up. He met the crow’s beady eyes, almost staring through them, as if he was looking right at Itachi.
A sick feeling churned inside his stomach. Something terrible must have happened, for you to be isolating yourself inside the house and ignoring your former captain.
Kakashi held the crow’s gaze for a moment before glancing back toward the main house. Then, he turned and slipped out the front gate.
Itachi was going to have to break his promise.
The next two weeks passed in a blur. You slept for most of it, hidden away under the darkness of your covers. The sun rose and set outside your curtains, but you paid no attention to the time.
Sasuke’s bedroom door remained firmly shut. You couldn’t bear to look in and see his empty bed any time you walked past. It was still neatly made from before he departed the village.
The space he had left in the home haunted you like a ghost. There were no loose weapons to trip over, no TV blaring loudly to interrupt your meditation. No sharp-tongued retorts or badgering for new jutsu.
Just silence. Dust.
You heard knocking at the door a few times, but ignored it, pressing the pillow firmly over your face to drown out the noise. Kakashi kept showing up to check on you, but you couldn’t face him. If you opened the door, he would want to talk about Sasuke, and you couldn’t stomach the thought.
In the end, you couldn’t protect Sasuke from the Uchiha’s curse of hatred.
Why did you assume you could?
“Y/n.”
You heard the low rumble of Kiyoshi’s voice before you saw her.
She padded over to the bed in the dim light. It was growing dark outside.
Her soft, wet nose bumped against your palm. You ignored the gentle touch, drawing your hand back and under the covers.
“I didn’t summon you.”
“Pakkun sent for me. Kakashi said you haven’t been answering the door.”
You closed your eyes, burrowing further into the blankets. Her hot breath huffed against your face as she came closer.
“He is worried.”
“I’m fine.”
“You are clearly not fine. When was the last time you bathed?”
You ignored her, pulling the comforter back over your head.
Her teeth sank into your ankle, tugging you down the mattress until you landed onto the floor with a thump. You didn’t even protest. You stared up at her pitifully, still tangled in your sheets.
“You are a sorry excuse for a kunoichi,” she muttered. “If someone attacked right now, they would cut you down in seconds.”
“I don’t care.”
Her resounding snarl caused you to flinch. “Stupid girl! Get off the floor or I’m dragging you into the shower myself.”
You simply stared at her, misery plain on your face. “There’s no point, Kiyoshi.”
“So you’ll just let Orochimaru have him then?”
“He wanted to go,” you whispered. “He wants power and strength. I can’t give him that.”
“Pakkun said there is a three year timeline, that Orochimaru will only take Sasuke’s body after that time.”
“So?”
Kiyoshi bared her teeth once more. “So you have three years to convince him to come home!”
“Lady Tsunade forbade me from going after him.”
She snorted. “When has that ever stopped you? I seem to remember you defying the direct orders of your captains many times.”
“This is the Hokage,” you muttered. “I doubt she meant forever. Just until the village recovers. Then you will be free to search for him.”
Your hands curled into fists. If only it were that simple. Even if you found Sasuke, there was no guarantee that he would return to the village, even for you. What could you possibly say to convince him, if you hadn’t been able to before?
Kiyoshi latched onto you again, causing you to yelp as she dragged you across the wooden floor.
“If you won’t pick yourself up,” she mumbled around your ankle. “I will do it for you.”
True to her word, she dragged you into the bathroom, despite your protest. Finally, you sat up, shoving her furry head away.
You pushed yourself up from the tile and stepped into the shower. You tossed your clothes to the floor and allowed the steaming water to run over your back. Despair still sat heavy on your shoulders as you ran through all of your possible options. You had thought about this for weeks, over and over.
If you tried to take Sasuke back by force, Orochimaru would tear you limb from limb. If you tried to convince him to return, Sasuke would likely refuse, at least until he achieved the power he so desperately ached for.
At that point, would he still work with Orochimaru? Would he be strong enough to protect himself?
“Wash your hair too!” Kiyoshi called. “It’s greasy!”
You sighed, but did as she said.
When you stepped out of the shower, towel wrapped tightly around your body, she trotted over with your toothbrush.
“You have it in your mouth!”
“Not the brushing part,” she grunted through her clenched teeth.
Exasperated, you yanked it from her jaws. You stood in front of the mirror as you squeezed out toothpaste, staring at your haggard appearance.
You looked utterly exhausted, and you felt it too. Despite all your time hiding away in bed, you were barely sleeping. Even when you managed to fall into a restless doze, you were plagued with nightmares.
You saw Orochimaru torturing Sasuke behind your eyelids. You often woke with the sound of his screams echoing in your ears.
Kiyoshi urged you to eat something, and you placated her by slurping half a thermos of soup. Finally, she let you be, with the promise that she would return in a few days.
Once she disappeared into a puff of smoke, you settled back into bed. You fell into a fitful sleep once more, sinking back into the nightmares.
You woke several hours later to the sound of distant shuffling. For a moment, you were sure you were still dreaming. No one else had been inside the house for weeks. Sasuke wasn’t there. He wasn’t coming back.
You allowed your eyes to fall shut once more, ready to sink back into the haze of exhaustion.
That was when the noise came again. This time, you were sure it was real. Soft footsteps, and the unmistakable sound of the fridge opening and closing. Condiment bottles and glass jars rattling slightly against the plastic.
You shot up. Only one person would be fumbling around in the fridge late at night.
Your bedroom door was thrown open as you stumbled out of your room and headed toward the kitchen. He was standing there, a dark-headed figure, illuminated just barely in the glow of the fridge bulb as he crouched in front of it.
“Sasuke!”
Itachi straightened, turning at the sound of your voice. He hovered there, guilt clouding his expression as he met your gaze.
You deflated like a balloon. Disappointment, heavy and bitter, settled inside your stomach. You wanted to slump against the wall and sink down to the floor.
Sasuke hadn’t come home.
“Y/n.”
When Itachi spoke your name, it was barely more than a whisper. Confusion washed over you.
“What are you doing?”
He let out a shaky exhale. “I know my presence isn’t welcome-“
“No. I mean…what are you doing in the fridge?”
“Oh.” He gestured to the brown paper bag on the counter. “These were just sitting on the porch.”
You blinked. He was putting away the groceries Kakashi had left?
You stood there, dumbfounded at the sight of him doing something so casual and domestic. The last time you had seen Itachi, he had broken your wrist in one fluid motion. Now he was carefully placing yogurt and tomatoes onto the shelves of your fridge.
He let the door fall shut with a soft click. When he turned back to you, he didn’t step forward. He leaned back against the counter, resting his hands on the granite.
“Something has happened.”
It was a statement, not a question. He must have been watching, but you hadn’t caught sight of any summons. Not that you had been leaving the house much.
“Sasuke.” Your voice cracked. “He left the village.”
Itachi blinked. “He left? Where did he go?”
“Orochimaru.” The name dripped with venom as it left your lips.
“He went to him willingly?”
You didn’t answer. You were too stricken to speak, to even offer him a nod of affirmation. Instead, you dropped to your knees. They hit the wooden floor as you buried your face in your hands and began to cry.
Itachi was at your side in an instant. Distance be damned.
You glanced up when you heard him approach, tears still dripping from your eyes. He reached out, intending to wipe them away. You flinched back as he reached forward.
He froze, letting his hand hover in the air for a moment. Guilt washed over him. Did you think he was going to hurt you? Or maybe it was simply your body’s reaction after what he had done to you.
Itachi moved forward, slowly. When his thumb gently swept the tears from your cheeks, he realized it was the latter. The soft sigh that left your lips confirmed that you weren’t afraid of him.
“I am sorry,” he murmured. “For everything.”
A choked sob left your throat. “I failed him.”
“No,” Itachi breathed, reaching for you. “No, that’s not true.”
He tugged you closer, and you didn’t stop him. You let yourself be pulled flush against his warm chest, let him hold you as you sobbed.
“He’ll kill him, Itachi.”
He shook his head, running a hand softly over your hair. “It will take more than Orochimaru to kill Sasuke.”
“He’s twelve, Itachi. He’s a child.”
“We were children too,” he whispered.
Your watery eyes met his. For a moment, they were glazed over with distant memories. You were suddenly a little girl again, back on a muddy, rainy battlefield. Small, frightened, and far too young to have blood dripping from the end of your blade.
“I didn’t want that for him.”
Itachi closed his eyes. “Neither did I.”
“Maybe I should have told him,” you said softly. “Maybe it would have changed things.”
Itachi shook his head. “It would only have endangered him. Danzo is still-”
“I’ll kill Danzo myself.” Your voice trembled with sudden anger.
After all, he was the reason for all of this. He was the one who had issued the ultimatum to Itachi in the first place.
Surprise flashed across Itachi’s face. You knew what it meant to kill a high-ranking official like Danzo.“You would become a traitor to the village?”
“There’s nothing here for me without Sasuke.”
Itachi frowned. “What happens if he returns?”
“What happens if Orochimaru kills him?” you shot back bitterly.
“It will not happen. I’ve always known Sasuke would surpass me one day. He will not allow himself to become a vessel.”
“You don’t know that.”
“I do. I know because he’s my brother, and he’s yours as well. His will is strong because that’s how you raised him. It will not be broken.”
You shook your head. “I have to get him back. I don’t care what it takes.”
Itachi’s arms tightened around you. “Then you will.”
You looked up at him, meeting his firm gaze. Itachi had always believed wholeheartedly in your abilities and the strength of your heart. It was the reason he had fallen in love with you, the reason he trusted you to raise Sasuke. If anyone could bring his little brother back into the light, it would be you.
Your lips suddenly slammed against his, needy and breathless. The sensation was dizzying. It caught him off guard for a moment.
But soon, his fingers came up to brush against the small of your back, urging you closer on instinct. Your thighs settled over his hips, creating a delicious friction that set his skin ablaze. You reached up, tugging at the dark, silken strands of his hair.
The two of you parted for air, and Itachi brushed his lips against the edge of your jaw before pulling back. Your face was still wet with tears.
“We shouldn’t,” he murmured. “You’re upse-“
You cut him off with another passionate kiss. Itachi let out a strangled gasp as your teeth grazed his bottom lip. Every coherent thought suddenly flew from his mind.
He was suddenly standing, his hands resting under your thighs as he scooped you up and wrapped them around his waist. He groped along the hallway, stumbling a bit as he attempted to move without breaking the kiss.
His heel bumped against your bedroom door, pushing it open as he carried you into your room.
The heat of his body pressed you down into the soft mattress. You felt the weight of his hips against yours as he slid his tongue into your mouth. He was already hard.
Your body bucked in response. One his hands slid under your shirt, tracing the smooth skin of your hip before traveling further up.
A soft gasp escaped your mouth as Itachi’s fingers grazed your nipple. He swallowed each new moan with another kiss, savoring the way you squirmed beneath him at the simple touch.
He began to make his way down your jawline, peppering kisses into the hollow of your throat. He slid the shirt from your body, intending to dive right back in. That was when he noticed something.
“Is this one of my old training shirts?
You flushed. “It’s comfy…”
He laughed softly at your bashfulness. “Wear it as much as you wish.”
His lips found their way back to your neck, continuing their downward path.
Your body lifted from the mattress as he sucked at the sensitive skin of your breasts, eagerly leaning into the sensation. His fingers slipped under your sleep shorts, sliding beneath the fabric of your panties.
They delved into your slick folds, and his thumb began to toy with your clit.
“Itachi,” you gasped, fingers tugging at his hair.
He groaned as you tugged, and pulled his hand away. You let out a small whine, upset at the loss of contact. He huffed out a laugh against your lips and began to pull your pants and panties down.
“You truly missed me that much?”
You nodded, brushing your lips against his. “It’s been so long.”
“Since me? Or since you’ve…”
“Both. Not since our last time.”
Itachi blinked, hovering over you for a moment in shock. “There’s been no one else?”
“No,” you admitted. “But it’s okay if you-“
He shook his head. “No. No, there’s been no one but you. I just…I would have thought…”
“Every time I got close enough to someone, it felt wrong.”
Itachi leaned down, capturing your lips once more.
“Then we’ll make up for lost time.”
He kissed his way down your body, stopping to nip and suck at the inside of your thighs. He reached up as you began to squirm, pinning your hips back down against the mattress.
“Itachi,” you breathed. “Stop teasing.”
He hummed noncommittally against the supple skin, before he decided to stop torturing you.
The moan you let out when he began to lick and suck at your clit was far more satisfying than your squirming.
He slid two thick fingers into your soaked core, and you whimpered at the stretch. It had been so long. Too long.
You rocked your hips against his hand, bucking against his mouth, and he cooed in appreciation. “You need me this much, my sweet girl?”
The only response you gave him was a frantic nod.
You cried out as he lapped at your clit, relishing the feeling of his fingers curling inside you. He continued his punishing rhythm, reaching up to palm your breasts. He tugged at your nipples, causing you to let out another whine.
A sweet warmth began to pool in your stomach as he coaxed you toward your first orgasm. Itachi took his time with you, refusing to rush as he stroked your fluttering walls and dragged his tongue along your slit. He wanted to savor your sweet taste.
He tugged moan after moan from you until you were white-knuckling the sheets and grasping at the silky strands of his hair.
Everything else was fading away, disappearing into the ether until the only things that existed were you and Itachi.
You were grasping at him, frantically attempting to ground yourself to something solid as your thighs trembled and rocked around his head.
One of Itachi’s hands came up to thread through yours, pressing it down into the mattress and pinning it there. His fingers squeezed your own, steady and insistent, urging you to let go for him.
And you did.
When your orgasm finally ripped through you, you came with a shudder, crying out his name.
Your one-handed grip on his hair tightened, tugging him down. Itachi didn’t stop. He continued to work you past your orgasm, tongue still buried in your folds. It wasn’t until you were shoving weakly at his head and attempting to squirm away that he pulled back.
Soft kisses were pressed against your sticky thighs, before Itachi made his way up to your mouth. The taste of yourself on his tongue was intoxicating. You would never get enough of the way Itachi worshipped your body. He chased your pleasure doggedly, harder and faster than he had ever chased his own.
“Itachi,” you breathed.
“Yes, my love?” he murmured against your lips.
“I need you inside me.”
He was more than willing to oblige you. The rough pads of his fingers brushed against your knees, spreading you open once more. He reached down, grasping the base of his cock. Pre-cum oozed from the head, smearing across your folds as he slicked himself up with your wetness.
His lips slotted over yours. His tongue slid back into your mouth as he began to ease inside you. Itachi moved cautiously, keenly aware that it had been years since he last stretched you open. Despite the dizzying need to slam inside you and take what he had been craving, he held back.
Itachi was patient. Gentle. So gentle that, soon, you were wiggling your hips and begging for more. And who was he to deny you?
He began to thrust into you, gripping your hips so tightly that you knew there would be bruises there later from the pads of his fingers. The intense darkness of his eyes had given way to the glowing crimson of the sharingan. The tomoe began to spin in lazy circles, and you knew he was memorizing this moment for later.
All of it would be captured in painstaking detail. The blissful flush of your cheeks, your soft whimpers, the feel of your walls clenching so beautifully around his cock. Itachi would picture it all  as he stroked himself in the shower, wishing he could be back between your legs.
Your ankles locked around his back, urging him closer as your walls fluttered around him. He grabbed one of your legs, hitching it even further up on his hip. A guttural moan flew from his lips. Judging by the way your eyes rolled back into your head, the new angle was hitting the perfect spot for you too.
Itachi listened to you whimper and keen beneath him. He shuddered as your nails began to scrape down the soft skin of his back, leaving bright red marks in their wake. He wanted you to scratch him up, to brand him as yours.
His thrusts soon grew quicker, shallower. He breathed your name, burying his face in the crook of your neck as he came. The warmth of his seed spilled inside you, pulling a soft moan from your lips. The bliss of being this close to him set your body ablaze.
Itachi leaned up, pressing a passionate kiss to your lips. “I’ve missed you so much.”
You nodded, brushing your lips against his. “Me too.”
“Not just this,” he murmured. “Everything about you. All of it.”
“I know, Itachi. You don’t have to explain.”
“Can I hold you?”
“You don’t have to ask.”
He pulled out of you and came to rest on the sheets beside you. You shivered at the loss of heat, but he was quickly pulling you against him, his chest at your back. Itachi brushed his fingers against your mussed hair as he curled around you.
He could feel the rapid rise and fall of your chest under his arm. You were both still breathless. His lips pressed soft kisses to your face, brushing against your jaw, your cheek, your forehead.
You laughed softly as he pulled the sheets over your body. As the sound left your lips, you realized that this was the first time you’d felt anything but misery in weeks.
Itachi closed his eyes as he nestled closer to you, breathing in the scent of you.
A soft gurgling noise caused him to open his eyes.
“Have you been eating?” he murmured into your hair.
“A little.”
A displeased hum left his throat. “We’ll have to do something about that.”
“Not now,” you muttered, reaching up to brush your fingers over the hand resting on your bare stomach. “Just lay with me.”
Itachi wanted to argue, but he could already feel the soft lull of sleep calling to him. You were so warm in his arms, so content. He hadn’t laid like this with you in years. It was better than anything he ever could have dreamed up, better than any illusion his sharingan could craft.
He sighed against your neck, pressing one last soft kiss to the skin before he drifted off.
He woke later in the night, with a familiar, unpleasant ache in his chest. Moonlight peeked through the crack in your curtains as Itachi untangled his arms from your body. He bemoaned the loss of your warmth immediately, but it couldn’t be helped.
He slipped into your bathroom and shut the door softly behind him, just in time to erupt into a coughing fit. He spit blood into a wad of toilet paper and paused, listening for any indication that the noise had woken you. You didn’t stir.
He flushed the evidence and rinsed any remaining blood from his mouth. You already had enough on your mind with Sasuke, and he didn’t want you worrying over him.
Soon he was sliding back underneath the covers, smiling to himself as you curled back into him. Your cheek came to rest on his muscular chest as you snuggled against his body. You sleepily mumbled his name.
“I’m here,” he whispered, stroking his fingers over your hair. “I’m here.”

Note
It's been, like, a decade since the story has completely ended (... I don't acknowledge that spin off with the kids or the weird novels), but I still don't understand what people mean when they say Sasuke has a lot to apologize/repent for. What exactly does he have to apologize for? The only thing he ever did wrong was attack Karin to get to Danzo, and he already apologized to her for that. His desire for vengeance was completely selfless and motivated by love and respect for his clan. He didn't attack innocents. He didn't involve anyone else in his problems. Yet, so many fans love how Shikamaru got revenge on Hidan when, to me, it just emphasizes how selfless and justified Sasuke is in contrast. Shikamaru wants to avenge Asuma who died fairly in battle on a mission because he wasn't strong enough. He even tells Tsunade he would leave the village regardless of if she allowed it or not. He involved Ino and Chouji, rushed in without knowledge of Kakuzu, and almost got them killed immediately. And Asuma is just a teacher! not even a fmily or clan member! They all would've died if it weren't for Kakashi being there to help them. Whereas Sasuke takes on his burden alone.
And for all that the fandom likes to critique Kishimoto on his writing choices, he's not a horrible writer. This sequence is purposeful. Shikamaru was the one who led the Sasuke retrieval mission. And shortly after Hidan's death, Sasuke kills Itachi. It was a well-structured sequence showing the validity of Sasuke's motivations compared to Shikamaru's whose motives weren't as justified in comparison, despite the validity of his feelings.
So, it's not that no one in the story can understand Sasuke--they can! All the characters just want to project things onto Sasuke. Naruto wants Sasuke to be a surrogate/prerequisite for the village to validate his sense of self and carry the burden of Naruto's loneliness. Sakura wants him to return her empty "love." Kakashi wants to right his wrongs vicariously through Sasuke and making him return Sakura's affection like he wished he could have for Rin, be a present friend for Naruto like he wishes he could have for Obito, not seek revenge because Kakashi is a mediator meant to to maintain the status quo in the village (a guard dog/"Hound" lol). Itachi wants Sasuke to be a blank slate anyone can impress whatever upon: he wants Sasuke to value the village over their clan and family (which itself is incomprehensible with the feudal structure the setting is based on). The village, and Naruto once he becomes Hokage, wants Sasuke to be a tool to use for the village's benefit. Maybe the only thing Sasuke has to apologize for is being a the protagonist of a revenge-based seinen but forced to be the deuteragonist in a battle shounen 🤷🏽‍♀️.
Dear anon, thank you for this gem. I don't know what else to add, because this is so perfect on its own.
For the record, I dislike Shikamaru, but I think he was right to want to avenge his sensei and go after Hidan. What is totally enraging is that he gets sympathy and assistance for doing all the things that Sasuke is trashed for. He is hateful and vengeful, and nobody tells him to just let go and not get consumed by revenge. He risks his friend's lives and gets zero reproaches, while Sasuke gets emotionally blackmailed by Naruto for all the kids that risked his life trying to forcefully bring him back, even when Sasuke had zero control over that. Kakashi goes far and beyond to help him, when he had tied Sasuke to a tree to lecture him about revenge. There is just so much hypocrisy that it hurts.
I am tired of reading all the ridiculously absurd "wrongs" that Sasuke supposedly did. This is a freaking show about murderer ninjas, but nobody seems to have a body count except for Sasuke. Which gets inflated to ridiculous levels, because Sasuke is apparently to blame not only for the crimes he committed, but also for the ones he imagined. He has no right to be angry and upset, he has no right to fight for his justice, because, in a world where the end justify the means and shinobi are meant to behave as tools that sacrifice everything for a mission, Sasuke is the only ninja that is demanded to find his way without even scratching a fly.
Sasuke has nothing to apologise for. He is the one being owned serious apologies and reparations. From everyone. From Sakura, for sexually harassing and trying to murder him. From Kakashi, for being the shittiest and most biased sensei, for being a hypocrite hokage that never attempted to make justice and for never prosecuting the surviving instigators of the Uchiha massacre. And from Naruto, for glorifying Hiruzen and for the same reasons as hokage Kakashi, because he too swept everything under the rug and never even tried to make justice.
Sasuke did nothing wrong. He grew just too magnificent for an antagonist, and they had to murder his character and his soul to make main character shine in his dumbness.

I'm a firm believer that Naruto and Sakura share a brain cell, because best friends do that, so I can only imagine them whispering to each other while watching Obito and Kakashi's interactions.
S: They kind of have a lot of tension, don't you think?
N: Don't even say it, it's embarrassing, dattebayo.
S: I was always curious to know why Kakashi-sensei was single. Now I know why.
When Sakura and Obito look for Sasuke, I can't help but imagine them having a very serious conversation...
S: Is Kakashi-sensei very important to you? Because I noticed the way you looked at him.
O: Let's just say that Kakashi is one of the few reasons I had to go through with the plan.
S: So you wanted a perfect dream world for Kakashi-sensei because he's very important to you or...
Sakura narrows her eyes suspiciously. If Obito and Kakashi-sensei liked each other, she couldn't stop it, but she COULD have a say in it.
S: If you plan on making Kakashi-sensei happy, you can try to redeem your sins by going to prison and... I don't know, maybe marrying him. And if you hurt him again, I'll kill you.

Sometimes I imagine an Alternative Universe where Naruto and Sasuke accidentally conceive a baby out of chakra.
Imagine is like idk Naruto is 19 years old and he misses Sasuke so bad that for some reason some of Kuruma's chakras leak out and form a strange looking ball of pure chaos.
Naruto just wakes up to a orange ball of his chakra, and he is not sure what is happening but he tries to re absorb it, thing is the ball turns around and there's a little face all in white looking at Naruto with furious eyes.
Naruto is taken back, cause tf is that? Is kuruma playing a prank on him. Again tries to reach the ball, but it starts rolling around and it looks like everything it touches disintegrates.
And Naruto freaks out because, TF his house!!!
By the time he catches the ball his house is a mess and half of it doesn't exist anymore. He is so furious, but before he could do anything he hears the ball of chakra laughing.
?? How is this possible? He needs to see Sakura.
And sakura has no idea tf is that, she was smart but this was new, the only thing they could notice is that the ball seemed to calm down when they fed it more chakra.
Naruto kept it a secret until he could control it, but it turned out he couldn't, with time the ball started taking a more humanoid form (like a baby) but it got hungrier, it was no longer satisfied with only his chakra, it needed more and Naruto was at his limit, so he asked Sakura to fed it, but the ball didn't wanted Sakura's chakra. Naruto didn't know whyyy, but the ball kept crying and destroying his house because it kept getting hungrier, but by this point Naruto was fond of it and didn't want to "kill it"
So he kept feeding draining almost all his chakra, until one time Sakura, worried about it, called Sasuke to come back. As always he came back as soon as possible, Sakura told him to convince Naruto to re-absorb the ball, because his chakra was getting so weak he could barely stand up.
Sasuke was about to, but Naruto looked so sad when he told him what to do.
"Stop being an idiot, you are going to kill yourself"
Naruto shakes his head still holding the ball between his arms on the bed.
"she doesn't want to leaveee"
He dragged the words out, blinking slowly.
"She? Naruto hear yourself, it's just chakra, you need to get it under control"
Naruto pouted, he was so tired but the ball kept being hungry, he couldn't let it die.
"She is just hungry, she is really friendly when she has been fed"
Sasuke sights, why is he even friends with this idiot?
"Fine, it just needs chakra right? Then I'll give it to it"
Sasuke took the ball of chakra out of Naruto's arms, this should be easy just putting chakra on his hands and somehow feed it to the ball right?
"She doesn't like anything else than mine" Naruto mumbles half asleep.
" 'She' seems to like it" Sasuke said unbored.
But as the ball of chakra kept being fed, it started to glow, limbs and skin spouted out of the ball.
Sasuke was shocked.
A baby now was formed out of the ball, black hair, piercing night eyes.
"what-" Naruto looked from his position on the bed.
Sasuke was sure that he looked terrified.

sasusaku stans say that sasuke must have seen sarada even when he was on a mission because sarada sees the memory where she hugs him and sasuke remembers her name. What do you think?
I am sorry again for the late answer. I wrote a lot of posts about Sarada and one of them touches the topic of supposed memory that Sarada has which is not really a memory but her own imagination. I also gave evidence there that Sarada never saw her dad because he left when she was a very small baby. She confirms it herself so the answer is simple Sasuke was not around when Sarada was growing up, he left her and Sakura right away but I will analyse the whole Sasuke and Sarada's meeting in the Gaiden to end the delusions of ss. Sarada after so many years of not seeing her father, her mother dogging her questions and not knowing anything about him decided to meet him and in the process she awakens her sharingan which shows how much she wants to meet her dad. She comes to the same place where Sasuke is waiting for Naruto and what Sasuke does? He attacks her and wants to kill her because he did not recognize her at all. How could he if he only saw her right after birth. Sarada had to scream 'dad' for him to stop. We can all say that their meeting went terrible. Look at his expressions, he feels regret for his action. Not only he did not see her at all but he also wanted to kill her. He remembers her name because she is his child and it would be out of character for Sasuke not to know it and also very cruel if Kishi would do sth like that. Then we have a scene that you talk about where Sarada again imagines in her head how she wanted their meeting to go. She expected it to be warm reunion with her dad but instead we have tears, fear and sadness.
Tumblr media
I just cannot believe that ss stans do not understand it. It is simple basic reading but they lack even that. Sasuke does not even look like him in her head. He is very massive because she only saw him from the photo with Taka where he wears a big cloak and he does not wear Uchiha crest anymore but Sarada did not know it. Also she looks the same and is the same age like in the main plot of Gaiden. SS just have to lie so they can believe that this family is happy. Coming back to the manga, Naruto enters the scene and Sarada starts to question her dad. The most important part here is that she mentions Sakura and when she does it Sasuke changes completely his face expression to his typical emotionless one and says to Sarada the same thing that he said to Sakura which is 'something that does not concern you'.
Tumblr media
He could have said other million things but he decided to be just cold and not even went after her. His face says it all. Even Naruto went after Sarada and that is why I wrote many times that if it was not for Naruto's involvement it would end badly. Thanks to him Sasuke started to consider some things and Sarada did not leave the village. This scene is very important because it answers the question why Sasuke was not involved into his child's life. It is because Sarada is Sakura's daughter. This is what stops him from bonding with Sarada. Moreover her running away after Sasuke saying that shows that it was never a positive thing when he said it to Sakura. Sarada reacts like her mother should have. Then Shin attacks them and this is also the moment when Sasuke starts to rethink many things and redeems himself when he shields Sarada. Sarada is still his child, his blood and also he sees how Naruto acts towards her and she is not his daughter.
Tumblr media
After that Sakura arrives and it more reinforces why Sasuke did not bond with Sarada. After not seeing his wife that he supposedly loves very much he makes this annoyed almost angry face and asks her why she is here. Sakura apologizes for not telling Sarada anything and Sasuke wanted to say something, probably the harsh truth why he does not want to come back to his family. Again his face is not nice at all and Sakura is worried. Of course Kishi could not write this whole scene but he gave us big clues.
Tumblr media
Even at the end of Gaiden Sasuke did not bond with Sarada 100%. He started to accept her but still this notion that he does not like Sakura, did not want to be with her and have a child with here is in his head. I wrote more about it here. Basically he poked Sarada which we know means a kind way to say no and lied to her that he will see her again but Boruto manga confirms that he does not spend time with his family and Sarada was mad that Sasuke spends more time with Boruto than with her. Lastly, I want to point out that after meeting Sarada Sasuke did not show her any soft expression, he did it only at the end of the story when he was leaving. He did not show Sakura any soft expression even when she called him darling but when Naruto was praising him to Sarada, his face is soft and very nostalgic. Not to mention this horror stricken face when Naruto got stabbed.

my current plan for drift au is like
Iruka: so here's the training room— oh, pardon us Hatake-san. I thought it'd be empty this time of day
Kakashi: fancy that, so did I
Iruka: ah, well, we'll be leaving then, sorry for the intrusion—
Naruto: hey, hey, what does sparring look like? can you show us? you n Kakashi-sensei
Iruka: i don't know... maybe not today—
Kakashi: ah, why not sensei, let's teach em what disappointment looks like
Iruka: *thousand yard stare* *removes knit sweater to reveal a nearly too tight button up* if you insist
Kakashi obviously gets a bit embarrassed by how hot Iruka looks. mostly the transformation fr goofy pencil pusher to the front page cover for every gay porno mag ever made. plus maybe idk a past infatuation that won't die?
Iruka just wants a chance to smack him upside the head for his rudeness.
whoops. turns out they're extremely drift compatible based off their quick spar. neither have any words. Kakashi is low-key upset he's gonna have to pilot again and kill Iruka this time. Iruka's just surprised by how... right it felt. he tries to cool his nerves, Kakashi interpts it as "oh no the grim reaper is coming for me next" fear, bc he's not aware Iruka might just be genuinely kinda amped up ab being toe-to-toe with a renowned pilot with a lot of kaiju kills. so Kakashi storms off. Iruka tries to calm his brain and his class.
he's ultimately hoping nobody finds out. he won't do well as a pilot, just let him do the paperwork for the base PLEASE.
now. they get hooked up with the actual machine to drift. it's stellar. until Kakashi starts freaking out ab how good it's going. Iruka tries to help but they're already fucked it up a bit.
now I'm thinking. Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura end up taking the new mech. bc their drift results turned out better than Iruka and Kakashi's, but mostly bc they have less opportunity for failure; they're not riddled with depression and chronic illness.
so. Kakashi and Iruka get benched and become newt and herman without intention. like. idk. they finally go insane, try to hide away in a broom closet to make out, only it's the research lab, and with Iruka's book smarts and Kakashi's physical smarts (as in he knows kaiju patterns fr dealing with so many) (and Iruka's hobby is studying up on them in his spare time) they figure out the breech.
im imagining Kakashi trying to fuck Iruka senseless on some desk, only for Iruka to get distracted by the papers and he's like "wait, wait, look at this," effectively killing the mood by distracting the both of them.
i want iruka to be the one to drift with the kaiju??? idk fuuinjutsu feels like a mad scientist sorta deal
Mizuki still attacks Naruto and Iruka still saves his life by offering his own
Ramen. Dandelion yellow hair. Summer. Okinawa beach. Onsen. Bath. Ramen. Ma, Pa. Auntie Kushina. Ramen. School.

Awake when I shoulntand really don’t want to be. Blabbing about kk mental illnsss.
Him getting that eye back in the 4th war is craaaazy. Like. If I lived my life sans my eye for twenty years and it just fucking. Grew back. I’d tear that shit out of my skull. I don’t deal w kk post war often but anytime I think about it. He has a glass eye. Like ur telling me mr mental illness , life of fucked up shit goes throughThat in the war And gets an eye he sacrificed back And now he’s ninja president and like. Is Alright????? I call it Kakashi’s last major act of mental duress. like it was a nice Gift but why is my eye that I lost twenty years ago in my head when I had a differnet one as a replacement and carried it like a fucking coffin and now it’s just gone and I’m normal again and what the FUCK is normal I haven’t had my own two eyes since I was a tween . oops I think I just scratched my own eye out. Whoops! well that kind of gift refusal would be rude so I guess I’m getting a glass replacement one and speaking of this never again. Normal!
Also can you imagine having no depth perception and then having depth perception again? Wack.
Anywya Behold my paragon of mental illness, kakashi hagake, Haver of One good eye since the ripe old age of eleven and never ever changin becauseWHAT THE FUCK
Also just bc I’m here.Boruto era kk has partially lost his mind. he’s oKay like the most okay he can be but that’s because somewhere in his hokage years he Lost Soem Of It. <- my excuse for why he’s so zany in boruto. He lost it. “speak to her in a loving tone— like how you call Naruto Loooser.” two seconds later miming Sakura for some fucking reason “nyaaaa!” Bro lost it. He don’t care. He’s old he’s gonna die srsly God Forbid he have to do anything Important anymore. life still holds him in it’s cruel cruel hands and like. What’s he gonna do? have fun. Have some fun. He’s gonna just. Do whatever. mental illness scratched at him for years and years and years and years and in a way he got some closure so like.. just let goooo man just let gooooooo. (why bother doing important things anymore? Like he Could die doing those important things but like. obrn would probably be mad at him. And also like. Why bother the suicide missions anymore he’ll die one day no matter what let’s just have some funnnn idk)
In my head it’s like. Cut to Naruto pt 1 era— that gag clip of kk just laughing all crazy until he falls over— there was this Point he’d hit sometimes of mild mania. and like cut to boruto era that’s just how he is now. whaaaat?? ghosts?? hmmmmm….. not to mention he lives with gai he just fucking gave up the majority of his major issues- tossed them out the window and decided to live life maniacally. Gai almost killed himaelf like everyone else kks ever known but he gets to keep gai ????? yaaaay!!!!! he’s since devoted his time to being a Character. Kinda like gai. It’s good for him he’s having fun. he takes gai with him on vacations and gai will irrationally cry at the tree the ichaicha adaptaion was filmed at With Kakashi because FUCK IT WHY NOT?
Kk hit a point of the big crazy and just went yknow what. Sure. He rangled the lot of the Big Issues and tosses em in a river with a cinderblock— listen up folks, war is over- I simply donot care anymore—

GaaSaku AO3 2024 Yearly Wrap Up
COMPLETED Fics in 2024, on Archive of Our Own.
There were 30 newly complete GaaSaku on AO3 last year!🎉💞
What Makes the Desert Beautiful by Storybelle When she was four, a neighbor looked at her bare wrist and couldn’t hide her recoil of disgust in time. “What a shame,” she murmured finally and patted Sakura's arm. Mebuki stood nearby, wringing her hands. They were causing a disturbance in the street, people turning to look as they passed by. Back then she hadn’t known how rude the neighbor was, that looking at anyone’s soulmark without permission, even a child’s, was the most impudent thing imaginable. “What a terrible shame.” She was twelve before she realized what the neighbor had meant.
Enthralled by bluemingqueen for onemoreword When he’d been a boy, half-crazed by the tailed beast inside him, he’d thought her blood sang to him because.he wanted to kill her. It wasn’t like that was an uncommon impulse for him in those days, after all. That he had to constantly force his fangs to retract whenever she was around was just one more sign of her destiny as his meal. When he’d come to Konoha to help defeat the last few Akatsuki members just after his eighteenth birthday, he watched her shatter the blonde bomber’s skull like a piece of delicate china, and he knew there was no going back. He would have Haruno Sakura, no matter what. (GaaSaku (featuring vampire Gaara!) for Word)
hopelessly devoted by 3raccoons Gaara finds a new treasure lost in his desert sands.
Threads of Eternity by Anonymous Years after Sakura Haruno and Granny Chiyo defeated Sasori of the Red Sand, his legacy comes back to haunt her. While on a mission, Sakura discovers an ancient, cursed book imbued with Sasori’s consciousness. Drawn into his world of puppetry and manipulation, Sakura begins learning his techniques to protect herself, but this only deepens his influence over her. Sasori’s presence grows stronger, manifesting through her chakra and threatening to regain a physical form. As Sakura struggles to keep control, her friends—including Gaara, who harbors deep feelings for her—become embroiled in the battle against Sasori’s return. When Sasori reclaims his puppet body, his dark obsession with Sakura becomes a physical threat. In a climactic confrontation, Gaara defeats Sasori for good, freeing Sakura from his grasp. Amidst the chaos, Gaara’s steadfast love for Sakura offers her the hope of rebuilding her life, unburdened by the shadow of Sasori’s influence. A tale of manipulation, resilience, and the strength of bonds, this story explores the blurred lines between power and control, legacy and choice, and the enduring impact of love and trust.
Sand In the Air by Sasuksakur Gaara was going insane, his love for Naruto making him lust day in and day out. He had shared a night with the blond and his wife, but it was not enough to satisfy his thirst. Maybe he started being pulled towards Sasuke because the other man was always loyal to Naruto, but then Sakura came along and changed everything for him.
Empty Words by LadyDyDy35 Fanfiction of a fanfiction: Follow the Sun; Excerpts in Time by LaceyJane After the whirlwind of events surrounding Kankuro's poisoning, Gaara can't figure out why Sakura is suddenly uncomfortable around him and decides to investigate. After the whirlwind of events surrounding Kankuro's poisoning, Sakura struggles to understand her feelings about the ANBU's words and Gaara's reaction to them.
Indulgent Afternoons by onemoreword Gaara was going to kill her at this rate... A little peak at an afternoon delight between the Kazekage and Konoha's Head Medic. Inspired by the art created by the great Kumeramen, available inside!

Wasurerarenai by FireThatFox Sakura is haunted by the memories of her deceased mentor and friend, Akasuna no Sasori. Reality and grief blend together, making each day without him more and more difficult to endure. Love is not rational, nor is guilt.
GaaSaku Fanfest 2024 by LadyDyDy35 This is a collection of 18 stories for GaaSaku Bingo Fanfest 2024. Fourteen are unrelated, and four are direct continuations of each other. Please note, Chapter 4 (only) contains the additional tags of: Medical Horror, Medical Caregiver Trauma, CPR Hands, Medical Procedures, Canon Character Death, Aged up Characters, SFW, Dead Dove-Do Not Read, Gaara is still technically a zombie, established relationship, Sakura needs therapy.
Hold Me, Darling by onemoreword Where Gaara is confused, Ino is aghast (and somewhat amused), and Sakura just wants to crawl up in a hole and die. She wondered how much longer she could keep this up before she finally exploded. Pure fluff during the early stages of Gaara and Sakura’s romance.
An Afternoon of Reflection by NightingaleFlow In an attempt to spice up their sex life, Gaara and Sakura try something new. Kinktober 2024 Fic 1/9: Mirror Sex

Wheel of Fate by IndraOtsutsuki After impulsively buying a strange staff at a flea market, Ashura Senju's life is never the same. In the evening, a young man shows up at his apartment door and introduces himself as Indra Uchiha, a treasure hunter with a unique taste in styling and a strange personality. He shows great interest in the staff Ashura bought, but no matter how much money he offers, the young man refuses to give him what he wants. So Indra offers him a deal and some information about the staff. His story sounds like a cheap fantasy novel, but Ashura's interest is piqued and he embarks on the greatest adventure of his life.

Oasis in the Desert by Child_of_the_Dark_Ones Gaara’s blessing has been that Sakura gave him the time of day. His perspective as he readies to make their relationship official.
Healing a pained heart by bipidi Sakura suffers from an illness caused by stress. Gaara will help her get through this. Tsunade agrees to send Sakura to Suna for a top secret experiment. Sarada doesn't exist in this story for plot purposes. Shinki has already been adopted by Gaara. Lots of poems in the upcoming chapters.

like sure, your clan was murdered. but imagine having to be the one to MURDER SAID CLAN (to keep them from revolting but let’s be real, FUCK DANZO), and then having to front like you hate your brother because you want him to go on and be successful without the cycle of hatred and revenge and you literally loved him way too much to kill him.
meanwhile sasuke: naruto romance, hate sakura, treason, in the last quarter “you know what… i wanna be hokage too!” like what in the actual fuck

Headcanons for boyfriend Sasuke please ?
a/n: sure thing, we love feeding the sasuke girlies round these parts
Tumblr media
tenderly and with all the love in my heart, sasuke is a horrible boyfriend if you're dating as teens
it's honestly hard to even imagine him as a boyfriend as a teen, so i won't linger here long
here's what i will say, if you manage to go official with him in his teen rogue nin years, you're either the baddest bitch on the planet or the most powerful person he's ever seen or both
assuming you're also some sort of rogue nin/akatsuki member you would help closely with his revenge tour and he would find it easier to talk to you than others
that being said he still doesn't talk very much, his emotions were hard to put into words
he can very rarely show you affection, but he doesn't allow anyone to disrespect you in any way n it's very easy for him to stand up for you to other akatsuki or anyone that feels so bold
and by affection i mean he occasionally holds your hand, and blushes violently every time i love this war criminal
he doesn't stop you from touching him though, he's just touch starved of course and doesn't rlly know how to touch you in a romantic but appropriate way
very defensive so you pretty much always have to agree w him or...nvm u saw how many times he tried to kill sakura
he does value your insight in planning though, let's you give opinions when his head is level
is surprised that anyone even wants to stick by him at all, much less in his crazee era!
but appreciates it by keeping you safe and training w you <3
listen to your favorite dress by lil peep i think that summarizes teen boyfriend sasuke
now young adult sasuke would be much easier to deal with, definitely not walking around on eggshells with him
he still is very awkward and unsure how to flirt or romance you
just like teen sasuke he blushes every time he holds your hand or gives you a sweet kiss
tells you about his brother more openly, a sign he's let you in
constantly asking the boyz for help with dates or gifts for you and always coming home with some goofy ass trinket that shikamaru jokingly told him to get or buying the ugliest dress in konoha because naruto said that hinata said that you would like it
a+ for effort though, king
eventually he just starts asking you for the things you like and you freely tell him all your favorite colors and patterns and scents, all the things you had your eye on or had thought were nice
the adorable thing about sasuke is he has a fantastic memory, so he's able to memorize all the things you told him and slowly acquire them for you
when y'all leave the leaf for his missions, he's protective as always, but trusts in your abilities
#travelgoals
exploring together is so fun because he really is so smart and knows all kinds of fun facts about the different villages and locations you visit
always reups on snacks at the big stops because he knows you'll get cranky
cute starwatching and picnic dates while hunting otsutsuki? yes!
picks flowers for you <3 crying
definitely lets you use the cloak as a blanket during the night
always pretends to be annoyed when you whine that you're still cold
cue the *sigh* into cuddles, like he isn't grinning to himself and super relieved and lucky to have you with him
can oddly write? like not sonnets or anything mf crazy but maybe a slight poem when his heart is just about to burst if he doesn't figure out how to put his love for you into words
doesn't give them to you though, too embarrassed
you find them anyway hehe
they're so sweet and well written that you're shocked but also melting at all of his comparisons of your beauty to the sun and the sound of your voice to music
you're touched
snatches said poems when he notices lol like you're not his partner?
you pout and thank him and he's a bit surprised that you like it but hey he'll give you whatever he writes now
he's so babygirl
your honor i know he's a terrorist but i love him

Is it just me or did someone else also thought that sakura was never meant to on team 7? Like she just doesn't fit in? She is supposed to be the part of the main cast but has less relevancy then shikamaru lol and all she does is yell and beg and cry for help every 5 minutes, she can't win a fight unless someone is using her as a puppet or either her opponent is a fodder level Shinobi and even then, she can't win she still needs help and your telling me she is the heroine? The strongest kunoichi? as her stans love to claim all the time Lmao.
Also her character is so shallow, creepy, obsessive and so pick me-ish like what do you mean you want to see your crush urinating? Not only that she also is a harasser who can't take clear NO as a answer that she literally start following Sasuke when he was traveling alone? That's some insane level of obsession and her stans have the nerve to call that obsession love?! And what do you mean you married someone that tried to kill you twice?!! Sakura seriously doesn't have any self respect for herself.
Honestly, hinata should have been the heroine instead like she would have made the story so much better she is already a better character then her, just imagine how much op the story would have been if we saw "the Sharingan vs the Byakugan" fight between hinata and Sasuke and we could have also seen " the Hyuga clan vs the Uchiha clan rivalry" and so much more. Hinata could have add so much depth to team 7 and the story in general, too bad somethings are too good to be true.
No your not like originally Kishimoto didn't plan for teams or even Sasuke, but after his editor suggested a rival he made Sasuke and then Sakura to make the numbers three.
Its one of the reasons why Sakura has so little background and development. It was all thought of as she went along since he couldn't just ignore her since she was on team 7. She was never the strongest kunoichi seriously even Chunin one shot her pre war and she didn't get any stronger besides creation rebirth since.
Yep the only thing about her character was her crush on Sasuke and being his fangirl. It all started off with that so her entire character ended up built around it. Her dream/goal was to get with Sasuke and I honestly think the only reason she ended up with him was to make it so all team 7 completed their original goals back during their introduction with Kakashi.
I know I think Hinata was planned as a civilian at first since her pre concept art shows her in a dress. It was clear she was the love interest from said concept art, but I think making her ninja came later when Kishimoto had to make more teams for the exam which was an arc he didn't plan for.
The story would have been so much better with her though, during the bell test she would work with Naruto and would likely get Sasuke in on the team planning to step down which neither would accept. Would really make the point of team work hit harder cause once they realised Hinata was giving up her chance neither would be willing to accept it. Instead we got them trying alone and Sakura fainting without doing anything. The only reason they passed was cause Sakura liked Sasuke hence offered her food as well as where if it was just Naruto she would never done so. If Hinata was on team 7 she would have been the reason they passed and truly becoming the heart of the team and making it the kind of team Kakashi wanted with her being the bridge between Naruto and Sasuke.
Hinata would help Naruto out and unlike with Sakura, Sasuke would see training with her as a waste of time. We could even gotten the love triangle Kishimoto with Sasuke growing fond of Hinata since she isn't like other girls.
Then during the wave mission she would treat Naruto's wound growing closer, but also the Byakugan would see through Zabuza's mist. Then with the tree climbing she would help both Naruto and Sasuke big time which could allowed some extra training before the fight. Also Naruto and Hinata scenes as well. Zabuza will target Hinata during his fight with Kakashi and it would motivate her to improve since she couldn't do anything, but guard Tazuna. She would also see what is happening with Naruto and Sasuke as well Naruto going nine tails. We could have gotten Naruto opening up and telling her about the fox. It sucks that we never got Naruto revealing his greatest secret nor his classmates reactions.
During the exam it would have Hinata use the Byakugan to get the tab that will seat her next to Naruto wouldn't surprise me if this is what happened in canon. Plus it will show her thinking and how her letting him cheat off her is a calculated move taking advantage of the fact the test deduction system since she would have confirmed all her answers were right with the Byakugan even if they both lose a point for cheating even if they didn't get the 10th question right they would have 8 points putting them in the top end score wise. When the 10th question is asked Hinata would realises there is a loophole and that since they both have the same amount of points neither of them will be disqualified.
Orochimaru might have also given her the curse mark due to the Byakugan, but most likely have left her as is to make sure Sasuke is safe while knocked out. We would get her saving the squirrel noticing the paper bomb and likely the sound ninja she would did really well, but would lose due to being outnumbered. Either Lee, Neji or InoShikaCho can end up saving her. Sasuke goes curse mark when he wakes up and Hinata tries to stop him by hitting his chakra points, but he defends himself hurting her. Naruto wakes up then goes fox and we get a short Naruto and Sasuke fight early.
After which both Naruto and Sasuke feel they let Hinata down and it motivates them. They meet up with Kabuto and Hinata will notice the genjutsu and her Byakugan would help net them win with the rain ninja clones. This leads to them getting to the tower earlier getting more scenes with the rookie 9 and opinions on who else passed.
Hinata would be able to openly cheer for Naruto when he fights Kiba. The scene after the Neji fight would hit so much harder and Naruto would try to see Hinata before the exam. Oh and when Ebisu comes to teach Naruto he asks if he trains with him would he be able to beat Neji. Ebisu expresses doubt however says that your chances are higher with him then Kakashi. So Naruto gets some more training before running into Jiraiya. When Naruto doesn't make head way with summoning Ebisu can come in to help or get Naruto started on other things like his chakra nature. It would also make more sense for Ebisu to figure out the shadow clone training method since he is a dedicated teacher. Naruto will be able to more scenes with Konohamaru as well if Ebisu is teaching him.
Then we get Hinata's proud failure speech and it will hits so much harder.
Basically everything turns out 200% better if Hinata is on team 7.

Socra’s Naruto Liveblog, Ep. 175-176, 184, and 186
(aka the buried treasure mission, sick Akamaru, and laughing Shino)
Ep 175:
-not the opening with Tsunade basically being like “my name is Tsunade, I’m the fifth Hokage, and that little shit Naruto is a pain in my ass”
-aw Akamaru’s tail started wagging when he saw Hinata-
-okay so this has got to be some kind of fake test mission, right?
-I like that they referenced the past filler missions
-I mean I definitely understand Tsunade’s point about team failures being the team’s collective responsibility but I personally think the failure of the Bikochu Beetle mission was entirely Naruto’s fault. Like how tf were Team 8 supposed to know he was gonna fucking fart on the beetle?
-lmao this comparison of Naruto vs. Kiba’s navigation/wilderness skills is really supporting my headcanons about Team 8 being good survivalists
-I mean Kiba was kinda harsh about it and he definitely shouldn’t have gone off on his own but also he did make some valid points about splitting up
-lmao Naruto is so stupid, I can’t believe he asked Hinata to tell him her dad’s name to prove her identity when he didn’t even know the answer
-damn rip Kiba, you were so close to the truth
-face copying jutsu is kinda a scary concept
Ep 176:
-wow I guess having a bunch of teammates with fangs is really helpful when you need someone to bite through the ropes tying you up
-I think it’s hilarious that Fake Naruto keeps saying “believe it”
-oh my god Naruto is soooo stupid
-okay Fake Naruto pissing off Sakura so she would beat up the real Naruto and running up a bunch of bills for the real Naruto to pay was admittedly hilarious
-Naruto going fucking feral because the imposter ate his special ramen stash was deeply unserious but also kinda incredible
-yeeeeep it was a test. I mean why weren’t they questioning the fact that someone Tsunade seemed to personally know was evil in the first place?
-anyways Kiba was highkey the MVP for this mission, because bro navigated correctly, tunneled out of the collapsed cave, found the treasure, rallied the team by pointing out what they could do better, and took out three of the four “enemies”. I do wish Hinata had had more to do on this mission but Kiba kinda popped off
(Now for sick Akamaru)
Ep 184:
-ah yes, gotta love ninja biological warfare
-nooooo poor bby Akamaru
-Jesus the animation of Shino’s bugs swarming Akamaru looked really freaky, I can only imagine being one of Shino’s enemies and experiencing that
-not Hana giving Naruto’s pants surgery stitches-
-holy fuck Akamaru seriously took out multiple Anbu???????
-as someone who loves dogs and has a dog myself, I feel like this episode is going to hurt my heart
-damnnnn Kiba really just smuggled Akamaru out of the hospital (good for him)
-tbh I, too, would defy the Hokage’s orders to save my dog
-goddamn Akamaru’s beast form looks insane
-bruh how are a team of (presumably chunin and higher) trackers unable to track one 12 year old genin
-ooooh Hana is so cool
-this episode and the Bikochu Beetle mission actually have surprisingly decent character moments for Kiba and Hinata respectively. I hope I see more episodes like this in the rest of the filler I watch
-wow Kiba was fully willing to let Akamaru kill him
(Now for laughing Shino)
Ep 186:
-oh I’m REAL excited for this one:)
-idk if I’ve said this before but I like Shino’s dub voice. I find it very unique
-Shino really said “I wouldn’t want Naruto’s goofy face turning up at my funeral”, what a fucking savage
-I love how Shino just casually mentions that he has parasites living in his body to other people
-this episode must have been such an interesting one for Shino’s voice actor to do
-god this episode is sooooo unserious, I wonder who even thought of it. Like how did they come up with some of this shit????
-LMAO THE PLOT TWIST WAS CRAZY
-oh Shino I love you
