Bc Cosmo was inspired by a Fen AU I wanna outline some of their major differences as characters!! Cosmo's still developing so there will probably be more intricate differences later on, but for now I just wanna get the big things down on paper.
I think the biggest differences between Cosmo and Fen are how they feel about memory, shame and insecurity, and bodily comfort.
Memory
Fen has a deep emotional bond to his memories. They're all he really has left of his home, family, and culture, so he does whatever he can to treasure and preserve them. He's always telling others about where he comes from and what his culture is like, and takes great care to act in accordance with the values and traditions of his people. If he were to learn that he was actually missing a large chunk of his memory he'd be deeply devistated and would work on getting those memories back almost to the point of obsession. One of his biggest character arcs is learning to move on from his past in order to make new bonds and find a new home. There's a reason he's chosen to be a vagabond for 15 years, even when he doesn't realize it.
Cosmo has almost no memories to begin with, but he really doesn't care. His past doesn't matter to him in any deep or meaningful sense. He gets curious about it when it comes up, especially when his mushroom friends drop random ass hints to it and then don't elaborate. But his curiosity is based more on the fact that his friends clearly have information that they're not sharing with him. It could be any sort of information about him, he's equally as curious about what his favorite color used to be as who his family is or if they're even alive. He just wants to know what they know because he wants to feel included, he doesn't actually care too much about the information itself.
Shame and Insecurity
While Fen is definitely capable of being embarassed (if he goofs up something, trips as falls, has to admit some thing he kinda wants to be secret, the very standard embarassing things) he's very unashamed and secure as a person. He's always been kinda weird, playing with slugs and digging holes and definitely walking up stairs on all fours sometimes. Refuses to wear shoes (slippers or boots only), will dig in people's trash for empty glass bottles, works for free and refuses to sell his potions for money, openly eavesdrops with zero ill intent/will just blatantly stare at people, he's just kinda an oddball. And he's perfectly content with that! He's very happy with himself just as he is, and if he's not feeling embarassed naturally on his own it's very very difficult for someone else to MAKE him feel shame. He lacks any major insecurities, he does self care, and is content just being Fen.
Cosmo isn't... exactly socially insecure. But he's very aware of his abnormality. He pretends to sleep, he makes himself eat and drink, he uses cloaks and glamors, all in order to hide how he's not a regular person (using person as a stand in for terms like 'human' as well, for simplicity). But he only does all that because it makes his life easier, and because his friends encourage him to do so. Where Cosmo's real insecurities lie are how un-mushroomlike he is. He can't decompose things or absorb his own nutrients, his entire physical body is wrong, he has to speak physically rather than psychically, he can't connect to the collective mind of the mycellium without his friends linking him in, he can't even make spores. And every time his friends keep him out, keep secrets, refuse to answer his questions, it all serves to make him feel even more insecure about what he is.
Bodily comfort
As expected, Fen loves his body just how it is. He has the abiliy to change it whenever he wants to with magic, but he simply chooses not to. Everything about his body is exactly as it should be. Perfectly Firbolg like, Perfectly Fen, nothing that needs to be changed. Sometimes he even finds active comfort in how he looks, because he looks like the people he lost.
Cosmo's deepest, most character-motivating insecurity is his body. He's very unhappy that it is the way it is, because no matter how much he insists on lying to everyone else and to himself he knows deep down that its a person body. He doesn't want to HAVE a person body, he wants to have a FUNGAL body the way all of his friends do. Everything about it makes him uncomfortable, but a good example is how he feels about eating things. He doesn't really like eating, because he becomes hyper aware of the taste and texture in his mouth. A mouth he shouldn't have, getting nutrients in a way he shouldn't be getting them. It especially upsets him that if he were to try and eat something a regular fungus would eat, dead logs or old uncooked meat, he'd choke and gag on it until he threw it all back up. An unvoluntary response to the food his kind are SUPPOSED to eat. Still, he finds a lot of comfort in knowing that it's only temporary. His friends want him to be like them too, they're helping him and guiding him to that specific end. So even when he doesn't understand the means he'll obey them. He also gets comfort from decorating himself in a mushroom-like fashion. His sweater looks like a mushroom cap, the wrap around his waist somewhat resemble gills, and his friends cover half of his body. It helps with a sort of dysphoria he feels.

Hello!
To preface: I don't know if I'm fully a plantkin by the traditional definition. I'm still early in my awakening and figuring things out as I go.
Here's what I do know so far:
My kintype is a faerie made out of mycelium who could shapeshift. I've seen other people lump funguskin and plantkin together due to similar experiences. Also, because of my type of fungi, I was interconnected with plants in a mycorrhizal network which allowed me to exchange nutrients, water, and information with them.
I'm planthearted, in that a certain plant (catnip plant) allowed me to bridge the gap between my fungal form and shapeshifting into animals (but I didn't live as that plant for long enough to call it one of my paratypes).
I may very well have lived a full life as a plant and just have not unlocked those memories yet. I'm just taking things one day at a time.
Very long preface, sorry, but given all that I feel like I can answer your questions:
Question 1: Yes! My fungi shifts allow me to feel a phantom mycelium that can connect me to objects, plants, animals, etc. One of my common phantom sensations is the feeling that my mycelium is growing through whatever is touching me (a car, my mobility aids, even a full building) allowing my body to grow to encompass that thing too.
Question 2: Also yes! I love rain! In general cold, dark, and wet are my top favorite sensations. Very mushroomlike of me.
Question 3: I learned about fungi through a research rabbithole I went down for a TTRPG campaign I was running. Something felt very Right about it all, but I've only recently started putting that all together with my other connections to fae, shapeshifting, animals, plants, etc to build a cohesive picture of my identity. Turns out the feeling of unexplained connectedness-turned-feeling-of-mycelium that I was "probably just making up in my head for fun or something" was actually a textbook phantom shift phenomena.
Fun fact: ~90% of all plants are dependent on mycorrhizal networks to survive. I wasn't able to find if common snowdrops were for sure part of that 90%, but it might be something you'd be interested in looking into.
do any phytanthropes/plantkin follow me? or just if any plantkin see this, I have a few questions!
so, I suspect I might be a phytanthrope/plantkin, specifically the common snowdrop, but I'm not sure, so I hope to learn more about your guys' experiences 🙏
question 1:
do you get any type of shifts? mental or phantom? if yes, what do they feel like?
question 2:
does your kintype influence your preference for weather or environment? if you're something that usually grows in a wet or damp environment, do you prefer the rain? if you're something that grows in the summer, do you prefer warm weather?
question 3:
how did you actually figure it out? what was something that made you kinfirm your 'type? or did you just instinctually know what you are?
thank you if you decide to answer! I haven't seen that many plantkin, so I hope this reaches some of you.

I want to know about the mushrooms tell me more about mushrooms
AGFHGJN YESSSSSSSSSS I WILL SHOW YOU MY TOP 5 FAVORITE MUSHROOMS. FEATURING: LOTS OF EXCLAMATION MARKS AND ABOUT 957 WAYS TO MISSPELLL MUSHROOM!! THIS IS ALSO VERY LONG. SORRY. IM NOT ACTUALLY SORRY THIS WAS SOOOO MUCH FUN.
Okay okay okay first of with the most popular one: you know amanita muscaria? the fly agaric or whatever? the one that is THE mushroom? this one?
its like. SUPER deadly. itll give you a high, but it also comes with thinhs like involontary muscle spasms, general stomche problems, amnisea, and can even put you in a coma! and also it will Just Kill you. i like that such a loved and well-known mushroom is actually one of the most deadly. idk exactly why i liek that abt it its just like. not a lot of people realize. even though its so popular.
and the NEXT one is the devil's tooth fungus! it has a lot of names but thats the one im going to call it rn. It does this funkt little things called gluttation, which as far as i know is just the mushroom pushing out excess water. but the COOL thing about it s that hte moisture is thick and sticky due to an anticollagen (helps things not clot) that is a DARK RED. this mushroom is literally so metal it literally looks like its bleeding.
unfortunality it does set off my trypophobia so i cant really look at it for long. but its FUCKING COOL. i also like it EVEN more because, color-wise, its the exact opposite of amanita muscaria! And i like it EVEN MORE because while the amanita is like. thought to be the cutsey mushroom and all that but is SUPER FUCKING DANGEROUS, the Devils Tooth LOOKS all scary and halloween-y but is actually pretty harmless! I mean, it tastes bad and kinda stinks too, but its like. (and youll have to excuse me for anthropomorphizing mushrooms) its like a PERFECT narrative foil to amanita!!! AJGNGGH GOES INSANE!!
the next mushroom, and youll probably recognize this one, is the inky cap mushroom!! this mushroom is another SUPER popular one-- or, at least, its popular in 1. mushroom circles and 2. goth cottagecore circles. my perspective might be a little skewed LMAO. anyways this is also called the "shaggy cap" mcuhroom because when its young it has a pretty white cap with little ruffles on it!! buT! when it gets older! it starts to look like its liquifying, and it starts dripping black "ink"
ISNT IT SOOOO COOL??? this mushroom is my favorite-- at least in terms of aesthics (though devils tooth has GOT to be like. my second favorite bc that is too cool) This muchroom is actually edible! Tje website has it written down as a "nutty, mushroomlike taste" which. tells me absoltuley nothing. But also, and i just found this out 2 minutes ago, appearently you cant drink alcohol for 3 days after eating this!! the effects can go from a stomache ache to a heart attack, dependign on how much of either youve consumed. because of this, its also called 'tippler's bane", which i think is hilarious.
The next mushroom is the ZOMBIE FUNGUS. I was first introduced to this fungus via a nature documentary. it gave me nightmares for weeks and started at LEAST 2 debilitating phobias, but also at least 2 special interests so. i guess?? it evens out?? anyways i LOVE this fungus even though it still terrifies me to this day. This mushroom is called the zombie fungus for good reason: when ants digest it, it takes over the muscle system gradually over the course of a few days, and walks the ant over to a leaf for it to bite onto (exactly 25 cm off the ground, apparently) and then the ant flowers, making another hub of fungus to infect other ants and start the cycle anew. But i need to be absolutley clear here. this ant is still like. alive. its brain is active, but its muscles are moving without its permission. it has literally described by scientists that the fungus was controlling the ant "as a puppeteer controls as a marionette doll". this thing is both corruption and the web. the ant is STILL IN THERE. and one!! how the FUCK is the fungus smart enought to do that?????? What the shit??? How does the fungus tell the ant to move its legs???? hoe does it tell it whre to go??? how is the fungus in the ant communicating with the original fungus?? this mushroom is so scary to me in so many ways but one of the most proniment is that it almost??? seems to be ??? sentient???? i dont know. idk. but i do know is that its SCARY AS FUCKK. im not including a picture of this because i cant stand ants and also. the image of bugs with mushrooms squeezing past their exoskeletons and shooting out of their head is kind of. terrifying.
the last mushroom of the day is called the bitter oyster mushroom! this one is SOOOO cool!!! its special gimmick is BIOLUMINESCENCE, BABEY!!!!!!
ive been obsessed with biolumiencnce for FOREVER, because 1. its fucking cool. who wouldnt be obsessed honestly, and 2. Avatar (2009)!! theres not much more to say on why i like it honestly. its glow in in the dark. its automatically awseome. this mushroom in the daytime is a nice creamy orange color, and grows in shelves along trees and logs! not every strain is bioluminecent, in fact the biolumicent strain specidically does not live on the pacific coast :((((( but ill get to see it one day. one day....
anyways THANK YOU SO MUCH for inviting me to ramble, and ummmm congradulations if you read all of that LMAO. This was a lot of fun and resolidified the fact that I LOVE MUSHROOMS SO MUCH. ok thank you byeee

I said I’d make a Resident Evil Village oc and I’m a woman do my word!
Hattie Helmling was a woman diagnosed with a fatal illness. As a desperate last resort she traveled to the Romanian village knowing there was a biologist, Miranda, willing to take to unorthodox methods. After being promised a full recovery she agreed to have the cadou implanted in her. The operation, more of an amusing experiment than a lifesaving surgery to Miranda, ended up with Hattie dying and her body being discarded in the Romanian forest.
As her body and the cadou disintegrated it ended up fusing together with the forest floor and the mycelium of the fungi, regenerating Hatties body to a mushroomlike being!
Hattie Helmlings powers are that she can travel her consciousness through the mycelium and rematerialise wherever, making her good for gathering information discreetly. She can also produce different poisons and healing potions. Feeling betrayed by Miranda discarding her so carelessly she’s willing to help Ethan take her down by giving him said poison and healing potions in exchange for small side missions. She can also be asked for tips and is overall a pretty neutral character. She can’t be killed but poses no threat to anyone. Hattie is seen as a bit of the village hippie, caring about nature, lamenting her fate and her bitterness towards Mother Miranda. She signs a lot and is very soft spoken.

while i am not a mushroom
here is some reflectional writing i did on my otherkinity and alterhumanity. read under the cut.
when i think about my otherness, my first thought is of my many limbs; long, nimble, writhing, and feeling all they can touch. while i am not a mushroom, i think back to mycelium, the only thing i constantly remember about mushrooms despite my love of them. mycelium connects mushrooms with each other, stretching across miles and miles under the dirt, keening for the touch of another like them, joining minds and experiences and forming connections unlike anything human across unimaginable distances. i have a deep need, an insatiable craving for touch, a connection, the warmth of hugs and holding hands and kisses and becoming almost inseparable. i want to decompose who i love, absorb all of them into me, their thoughts, their feelings, their love, and when it becomes unbearable i retract it all back into myself and leave the husk, as ive gotten all i want from it and can get no more nutrients, let them reform again with new things to talk about, more love to consume, and then repeat.
i am not a mushroom, i am something more, gathering from all kinds of sources into one indescribable entity intimately connected to the concepts of decay and rebirth and the life cycle. so it makes sense that mushroomlike attributes would be a part of me, starting as a spore, growing my hyphae into mycelium and making myself, while spreading myself across to others then finally growing into my own, using the connections i've made to draw energy from those around me and thrive. mushrooms are the epitome of the life cycle and growing into yourself as a person, with a life cycle unique to themselves. you could even say that this cycle can represent the discovery of identity and community. mushrooms as well are beings essential to the life cycle by being the decomposer. without mushrooms the dead would pile up higher and higher into the sky until they would blot out the sun. like cthulhu is not an octopus, i am not a mushroom, but mushrooms and their attributes are an essential part to my identity and what i am as an entity.

KELVOO'S TESTIMONIAL
Kelvoo is a member of a peaceful, genderless species on the planet Kuw’baal. The kloormari’s intricate bodies—a mushroomlike eye at the top and double-jointed limbs with paddles for hands—make them expert multitaskers. As such, they don’t rely on modern technology and are shocked when humans from planet Terra (aka Earth) send a surveillance drone to their planet. Next, humans come in an even bigger ship, and although Kelvoo and other kloormari find the visitors “hideous,” they aren’t threatening. They teach the kloormari all about the Terran language (of which there seems to be only one),food, culture, and unfamiliar concepts, such as imagination and fictional stories. Sadly, a later group of humans isn’t as amiable; they trick nine kloormari, including Kelvoo, into joining a phony mission, enslave them, and show them some of the worst that humanity has to offer. Kelvoo and the others, pushed to the brink, find a way to escape their plight so they can get home. But will Kuw’baal be the same place they left behind? Aside from the preface, the entire narrative is made up of Kelvoo’s autobiographical account, featuring straightforward observations in simple, unadorned prose. Kelvoo’s willingness to accommodate Terrans’ unusual customs makes the protagonist endearing, and there are some lighthearted moments, as when kloormari become fascinated by Terran-provided Infotab tablets. The kloormari, who live up to a few centuries and birth offspring in just weeks, prove fascinating in their own right. Bailey’s message is blunt but affecting, as the humans cheat, rebuke, and subjugate a species that they don’t bother to understand, and readers will find it painful to watch the kloormari suffer such cruelty. However, the author also rounds out his novel with delightful details, including hints of other species who are part of a Planetary Alliance.

Randomly had an idea for what if demons were actually some sort of sci fi symbiote?
They spread via mushroomlike spores and then take root in the skull of whoever breathes them in. This would give you magic powers thru the old '90% of the brain' pseudoscience nonsense, and also a pair of psychic sensory organs grown out of mushroom fibre that just happen to look like glowy horns. And maybe the traditional demon tail but it comes out the back of your neck instead? And itd be super long and strong enough that you could swing from tree branches and stuff!
And then i dunno you'd have a 'familiar' which is really more like a spore sack? You and the parasite each retain your own conciousness and your abilities grow stronger thru friendship together! But since you're sharing a body you cant normally talk face to face, so it has the ability to poof up infinate amounts of clone fake bodies that can act like a sidekick. Just lil mushroom bat pals! And i dunno maybe if they stick around for long enough they start to develop their own personality, and then they leave to seek out their own host body to merge with. I was just imagining it could be cute and weird to have some teenage shonen protagonist and then this giant 40 year old buff astro soldier guy who calls you mom cos his symbiote was the child of yours XD
also it could be a cool plot to explore if the symbiotes were 100% non evil and just wanted to help and dun understand why humans are scared of them. They just seek out hosts cos otherwise theyre deaf and blind and starving. And theyre all innocent cutie personalities excited to explore the world they 've been dreaming of for so long, sleeping in the dirt. Theyre just as new to it as you are! So when humans landed on this dangerous planet they were terrified of this mysterious planet disease but soon learned that the people infected were able to survive in this atmosphere and battle toe-to-toe with the terrifying wildlife! However predjudice against demons and a moral obsession with 'purity' still persisted, so the majority of humans live in sealed off bases and try and cling to thier humanity even if it means death. And they have a complicated relationship with the demons, because theyre their biggest asset in surviving this hostile land. So infected people are employed as bounty hunters, with the promise of someday eventually earning back their right to live in society if they work hard enough. And these adventurer guilds all compete with each other for this prize, instead of unionizing and fighting back against their bosses who keep moving the goalposts. Alas!
So yeah uhh this is my random premise idea for maybe some sort of open world survival game with a focus on realistic animal behaviour? U could probably catch the monsters because uuuuhhh something about the parasite being able to give off calming spores? Or communicate telepathically with stuff? Or just that this is a big scary combat planet of equally innocent goodbabs, and everyone here befriends you if you beat them in battle. So youd explore loads of rich biomes with complicated animal AI and have to do all sorts of stuff to track them and catch them and then use their different abilities to reach new areas and so on. And also probably sone sort of photography minigame cos i dunno u sell them to scientists and they can study the animals for the good of humanity? And maybe you have an old fashioned camera cos demons have to scavenge stuff from the human bases and work with outdated technology and also Because Aesthetic
Thats my ideas, lol. Kinda disorganised. Im tired.

821. Arabier. De Dolle Brouwers. 10/08/18.
Page 315 on the official list
ABV 8.0%
8.0/10
Beer of: Belgium
A purchase from online to try another beer on the official list, drunk at home with tea.
The book says: Clear yellow blond beer beneath a robust white head. Young, the beer smells of honey and hops, later becoming nutty, alcoholic and mushroomlike. Dry hopping returns in the taste, accompanied by citrus and other fruity flavours. A slight lactic streak may show up with age.
They say: An arabier is a pure malt beer 8°vol/alc brewed with flower Nugget-hops from Poperinge. It has the special dry-hopping taste and aroma, so appreciated by beer lovers all over the world. It is one of the two main beers from De Dolle Brouwers throughout the year. Aging time is limited due to the fact that hop bitterness is declining with the time. Store arabier cool and dark and serve cool at 10°C. Cheers!
I say: An enormous white head filled the glass at the first pour. When it slowly faded away it revealed a hazy golden beer. Aroma is delicately fruity with spicy and yeasty notes. Medium bodied with soft mouthfeel. Very well balanced with a dry edge. Nothing crazy about this beer, rather very delicate and subtle.
