EARTH 🌏 The thing I’ve enjoyed about the AFM system is its ability to be applied to all of your training in some way. It doesn’t matter if it’s using unconventional tools or using traditional tools, or even bodyweight. The concepts are truly about human health. . 🔻 I’ve now been working on a variety of activities over the past 6 weeks that are feeding into improving me as an athlete and coach. Integrating it into my training has allowed me to feel good enough to Deadlift again. I’m not lifting the loads I did in the past, but I’m simply used today’s workout to test out the things I’ve been doing in order to see how they are impacting the things I’m used to. Test complete. Just in case you don’t like the video, you can swipe left and check out my haircut 😂👉🏾 I was challenged by @zhu_strength who i think was challenged by @francheskafit to do a this #sissysquatchallenge from a deficit. Unfortunately I️ don’t practice these much and so doing them from a deficit would be absurd for my current experience level. _______ As @zhu_strength points out in his post, there aren’t really bad movements, just unprepared bodies. Mine clearly isn’t prepared. As you can see i loose control at one point and speed past a part of my squat. I see this with so many people. Speeding through an area of weakness is feeding the wrong beast. It's all Yoga: I teach people how to use tools in order to achieve specific outcomes. I use the Steel Mace as a means of delivery for most of the concepts and ideas I've gathered, learned and developed over the years, stemming all the way back to my early years nearly 2 decades ago when I spent most of my time in Physical Therapy clinics and in Athletic Training rooms. I use other tools as well. But the tool is not where the magic happens. It is you that makes anything go. It is your connection with the earth and it's relativity where strength and power are harnessed. What we are doing when we pic up a tool is adding to a chain and that chain either remains open or becomes closed. __________ In the open chain we must use the extremities that are in contact with the earth to find stability for our loaded extremity. The earth is asking for that object back and we must resist this request by using the earth's own forces to counter. ________ In the closed chain or closed circuit, the forces of the earth must be passed through that closed circuit to create stability. With an offset load this requires an even greater effort. This is probably easier felt than explained in text. _________ Anyway, Yoga is about connection with the breath, the world and essentially the universe. We can move mindlessly through our activities and strength training. We can "pick things up and put them down" like neanderthals. Or we can connect with our body and mind, learn to mindfully channel and harness the strength that the earth provides us. Learn to use the earth, build strong structure and then add complexity. #throwbackthursday to Charles de Gaulle airport where I had a brief layover in transit to Oslo. After 10 hours in a plane I needed a little mobility work. After my full body CARs, I decided to work on Squat depth. If you look closely you can see the depth after each contraction. There was a time where this depth (even supported) would have been tragic on my knee. Happy that I've worked through some of this. Using these concepts in conjunction with things I learned in Oslo at AFM is gonna be great. Met up with @progressivemotionpt today too and I'm excited to learn and collaborate with him as well. The future is looking amazing. You can't stop my flow. I will keep #movingthepeople in the direction of health. Although I have an affinity towards Maces, remember that tools are only tools. People attached to tools come and go. Concepts and things that improve people's lives never die. This entire week I’ve heavily emphasized shoulders in my posts. 💥Why? Because I think overhead strength and stability is important. Also, because I’ve been working a lot on my own shoulder. #MobilityMonday as mentioned in my live video, this week’s posts are a build to a Friday finale. Today’s post is a set of progressions/preparatory movements that will be utilized in relation to the posts later in the week. The focus here is on Mobility utilizing concepts of IAP, Irradiation, FRC and AFM. . This is one of the movements that has truly intrigued me. I don’t do it any justice and I clearly have a long way to go. Internal and external rotation is something I’ve learned recently is not my strongest area, so I’ve been working on it.
