Columbo and the Knight (1984)
put me in the universe where Columbo ran through the 1980s and had a crossover episode with Knight Rider. I think they deserved it, and I am not just saying that because they're my two favorite Old Shows. @telebeast wrote a little fanfic blurb about it and I HAD to visualize it into a comic (which is also the longest comic I have finished thus far at five pages...), so writing credit goes to them.
Autism W!
#columbo#knight rider#art#michael knight#kitt#comic#highlight reel#crossover#telebeast#there are two small easter eggs here. can you find them. they were somehow not Entirely lost when i resized these for the public#this is what i mean when i say I Draw And It's Everyone Else's Problem. look at my INCREDIBLY niche crossover comic boy#if the knight rider fandom has like 12 people in it. how many of y'all have seen columbo#this comic is for like 4 people and me and phoenix are already two of them#niche is my specialty lets be real. weird niche obscure shit and ships nobody's paid attention to yet#not to suggest this is ship art. columbo has his wife and michael has his car lmfao#stylizing real people is EXTREMELY hard btw sorry for when they get off model. its partly a 'better imperfect than never finished' situatio#cant tell you how much i redrew some of these panels. weeps#this took me 2 weeks but i think i thumbnailed it all in may and the ideas been rollin around in my head since march#is anybody good at editing. please edit michael and columbo into an image together like its a screenshot. NOT generated. edited.#it would be so cool#ive drawn columbo a lot but i haven't drawn a lot of michaels. i was learning things about his outfit AS I WAS DOING THE DAMN#COLORS ON THIS. all the lines done. it was too late to change anything. i did all the lines and colored page by page#i realized my mistakes on like page 3. 1 and 2 were already done. it was Too Late.#imagine it though. them working a case together. switching between the more serious tone of columbo vs the goofier#action antics of michael and kitt. columbo being so impressed by Modern Technology. there's more i could say but phoenix may write#more of this crossover and i don't want to spoil it :'3#there's opportunity here though i swear. there's gold to be dug.#i like how kitt gets shading but columbo's junker peugeot doesn't. kitt looked wrong without any. columbo's car is matte and dirty#i also applied effects to this to make it look a little film-grainy and VHS like. some CRT TV vibes#the only question left is. did they put knight rider into columbo; or columbo into knight rider 🤔

My Recommended Fic List
So, I got this ask awhile ago, and since I have been re-reading a bunch of my old favorite fics as a way to cheer up after work I figured why not. This list will be long... and varied but mostly its older fics cuz idk there my favs. Now lets go:
Fashion Upgrade - By @soap-lady : Straight up one of my favorite fics ever, its fun, its creative, it never fails to make me laugh when I need something warm and wholesome after a bad day. Also go check out the rest of her stuff there's so much good okay like shes just a writing queen. Shes on AO3 I don't want to spoil you on her other stuff just GO experience it for yourself.
Ode To Decoy pt 1 / 2 / 3 - By @a-marlene-s : Ive always liked this short sweet little fic about Lila getting caught. Its Lila + class salt though so avoid if that's not your flavor.
EVERYTHING - By @unmaskedagain : They have salt, they have sugar, they have funny, they have crossovers. Like honestly they are a just a great writer with so much variety so go check out the masterlist I linked and I guarantee there will be something there you like.
@ravennm84 Is a writer on the saltier side but they have a wonderful selection of weird wacky tales from the salty but oh so well written Damning Evidence that sees Lila get caught in the best way to the 3 part Horror inspired Serafina other great fics from them include Marinettes Family Court Circus pt 1 / 2 and Of Moldy Bread and Cockroaches / Be Kind to Servers honestly its worth giving there blog a look.
@mochinek0 Is another writer with several beloved fics. They write a lot of Maribat and we love them for it. Ones to check out would be Blind Date / Bruce vs Gabriel just go check out there tag list of daminette for more.
Accidental Crime Boss Marinette - By @lady-literature : This is a wonderful idea and a wonderful little fic and I just... I just like it okay. Sadly I haven't read a lot of there other stuff... But I might after finishing this list considering how much I enjoy this one.
@nobodyfamousposts I love a LOT of there fics. They are one of the best when it comes to striking that sweet spot of calling out the show for some of its garbage while not getting so salty that you cant have fun lighthearted goodness. I have been looking for a masterlist of there work but cant find one so just go stalk there tags. I do recommend there Chloe's Lament Series 1 / 2 exploring how certain 'wishes' would backfire. Guardian Assistant Kevin is also a good one Miracle Queen Aftermath pt 1 / 2 / The 8 parter Burn the Witch series / The Wisdom Teeth Reveal / Kagami Vs The Wall of Faces / Resigning With Grace & Spite / I tried to give a lot of links cuz they have a lot of stuff
Kill Them With Kindness - By @luki-fanfic : Well written, good salt without going overboard. Just good vibes. I havent stalked there other stuff but if its anything like this fic its probably excellent quality.
Stephen Vladislav pt 1 / 2 - By @stormiclown : Adrien centered salt on the idea of finally giving Adrien his own proper rival. I like the idea of Adrien having a rival because its usually Marinette and this was just the right length to get those creative ideas flowing. Also just well written what more can you ask for.
Power Trip - By @storygirl000 : This was the first fic that made me go... Wait would it be more fun if Lila was actually competent? And that set me on the path to writing my own fics where Lila is more villainous and more capable. Its short, well written. Good.
Your Wish is My Command - By DemiGoddess28 on AO3 : A great 11 chapter fic looking into Lila's life if she were to win and get a miraculous wish. Its got sugary goodness for our protagonists and the class and salt for our dearest friend Lila.
LadyBugOut AU - By Miraculous-Content on AO3 : A 50 chapter fic made up of snippets and ideas. I found it really inspiring in many ways. I also love how it redeems Marinettes classmates showing how and why they were tricked but holding them accountable anyway its just... Good.
Juleka vs The Forces of the Universe - By goldenlaurelleaves on AO3 : For those of us not yet ready to accept the death of luka/mari we have this wonderful fic showing Juleka being the biggest wingman as she helps these idiots find there way together.
ChaoticNeutral on AO3 has there own Chloe's Lament fic as well as a Gabriel's Lament fic for people who need sweet salty of those two characters.
BroadwayCutie16 was Inspired by the person above and DemiGoddesses your wish is my command fic to write Lila's Lament fic going over Lilas failed wish. Honestly I always love these fics because there just so interesting and the way wishes can be taken and twisted is always a fascinating idea to me.
#WayneAngel - By Tired-Writing-Teach on AO3 : For us Maribat lovers. Its fun and lighthearted with some good gags and some light fluff.
Damian in Paris - By Lilliesandliveries on AO3 : A sweet Maribat series showing what would happen if Damian ran away from home and found himself in Paris and getting therapy.
How a Demon Commissions an Angel - By AlixAnonymous : Damian blackmails Marinette into letting him be her client so he can get his bros the best gifts, they end up becoming penpal buddies.
Mythomania - By LadyEnna_50 on AO3 : Proof that I dont hate Adrien or Mari/Adrien. In this fic Adrien's spine gets titanium plating and he sees just how bad Lila is hurting Marinette and does something about it.
The Contingency - By AbyssalGuardian on AO3 : SALT. Also Tim/Mari but even still I love the way this was written, the style, and some of the ideas just ugh love it. Its not for those who dont like salt so just avoid at your own discretion. Its about a chaotic Marinette done with her life running away to Gotham where she meets her true black cat, and gets her life back on track.
The String That Binds Us - By FaithAndATypeWriter on AO3 : Okay so is there any Mari/Bat fan who hasnt already heard of this one? Who cares its good, its cute, I love it. May the author be blessed with snacks.
The Great IKEA Game - By @batsandbugs : Okay again... I think every Mari/Bat fan has probably heard of this one already because its just that good and that popular. But who cares I am recommending it anyway. Don't read if your allergic to fun I guess.
If this list still doesn't somehow have enough salt for you then try @goggles-mcgee fics here is a link to there Masterlist. They are in a way a professional at salt and angst and they make you want to adopt Marinette and pop her in a blanket fort.
Honestly I could keep going but this list already feels so long for other great recs though I can link you to @jayphoenic who has some great Daminette Fic Recs and some Lila Salt Fic Recs!
Feel free to reblog this and add some links to stuff you would think I or others might like! Also lets just acknowledge how many talented authors the community has like wow.

The Power of DPxDC
There has been a lot of anti-DPxDC sentiment going around lately; if you haven't heard about it, then don't worry about it. This isn't a post about the negativity, this is a post celebrating how much we've done as a crossover fandom!
Just as a bit of perspective, I've been reading fics from DPxDC since 2020. Now that might not seem like a long time ago, but back then we didn't even have 100 fics for the crossover as a whole, and look at us now! This is a screenshot from Ao3 just today:
Incredible, isn't it? Look how much we've grown and contributed and shared! And that's not even mentioning all the wonderful Tumblr prompts and posts and incredible fanart. DPxDC has us in a chokehold and it isn't about to let go any time soon.
I know it can be a little disheartening to see all the people trying to drag us down. I know I've been left disappointed in some cases, but I also know that my love for the crossover hasn't abated at all, and I hope it stays that way with you all too!
There is so much engagement in this crossover, I cannot tell you enough how much you all have spoiled me with comments and kudos and fanart. A lot of my fandom friends like to tease me for writing so much, but I don't think I could have written half of those fics had it not been for people like you loving them as much as you do.
Passion is the lifeblood of this fandom, of every fandom! And I don't see that going away any time soon for DPxDC.
I know I want to comment and kudos more. I read a lot of fics, but I don't sign in often so that you can see me leaving that kudos, and it's been more and more apparent to me how many people don't realize how much I adore their writing. I'm hoping to fix that!
Some might say that we don't tag our work appropriately, and while that might be true in some cases, I cannot stress enough just how good of a job we're doing. @tourettesdog made a wonderful post not too long ago about tagging, and we do clean work! Not even a full 3% of all the tags they'd seen included a "main" tag, which has been the frustration for most. 3%? That's incredible!
You all deserve some appreciation for the hard work y'all do, and this is it! I hope you all know how well you've fed creators, readers, and fans like me! Don't let up, because we do amazing work. And that deserves to be celebrated.
#dpxdc#i'm gonna be real with you all#dpxdc got me through a TOUGH fandom break#had it not been for this crossover#i might have quit writing altogether#but you're the reason i kept going#and i can't stress enough how much#that means to me now#so thank you too

Hellloooo,
May I request viral hit characters reacting to their s/o wearing something naughty? If not naughty, just wearing their clothes instead?
-Thank you <3 ‼️
Hi anon! Wew I'm so sorry. We are nearing the 3 month mark. How's your V Hit interest? Fading? 😅 Thanks for requesting and the thank you and heart is SO cute. Hmm. Let's go for wearing their clothes...All generally quite innocent.
HTF Boys reacting to you wearing their clothes: Munseong, Wangguk, Yeonwoo, Seongjun, Taehoon
G/N but assumes you're more petite than they are.
Kim Munseong
You have a habit of taking his tracksuit jacket.
At first he never used to think much of it. He had a two track mind: one on Bomi, the other on MMA.
And then Bomi became spoken for, and the track became singular.
You still continued to take his jackets. Talking, laughing along with him, as natural as anything. Because it was. He's grown used to it.
So much so, that whenever he sees you without his clothes on, he feels a pang. There's something missing that he can't quite put his finger on.
He watches you. Wondering why you look... off.
Then it hits him. You're not wearing his jacket.
In addition, his jackets just smell like him. Of deodorant and aftershave. Without your scent and his mingled together.
And here comes a double KO. His feelings, the second realisation, hits him full force too.
Han Wangguk
He handed over his hoodie when you said you were cold.
Maybe that wasn't the best idea (or perhaps it was) because the sight of you in his clothes. Chin tucked in at the collar, sleeves hanging over your hands, length reaching down to the top of your bare thighs.
This is really something else.
Wangguk blushes furiously. Thinks about you in his hoodie and nothing else. Chastises himself for his lewd thoughts but shit, he can't help it.
It's just so fucking sexy.
Oops - you've broken him.
Or... that's what he thought. It's actually much worse when he gets the hoodie back from you.
Your scent, your perfume. He can't get enough.
And if he sleeps with it, so he can be reminded of you? Well that's only between him and his hoodie.
Ji Yeonwoo
You put on Yeonwoo's karate gi as a joke.
And maybe it was a little disrespectful the way you just casually wrapped it around you. You thought maybe Yeonwoo was pissed when he noticed. His mouth was hanging in shock and body frozen.
"Sorry," you grimace, sheepishly taking it off.
"No! Don't!" Yeonwoo clears his throat, cheeks dusting with pink, "...No it's fine. You can wear it."
Seeing you in his gi is combining his two absolute favourite things. It's a crossover he wasn't expecting.
His thoughts are innocent enough, it's more the idea of being able to have everything he wanted. Kyokushin karate and also you.
Yeonwoo stammers and blushes, not able to concentrate on anything else for the rest of the day. Not on his studies, not even on his training.
Because the idea of you by his side, joining him, is everything.
Baek Seongjun
You like to wear his haori casually around the apartment (when it's clean, of course).
It's something easy to grab and slip on. A cover up for when you're feeling like you need a light extra layer.
Especially for the morning after you've spent a night entangled in bed together.
The first time Seongjun sees you in his haori and little else, stepping into the kitchen for breakfast he has prepared-
His heart stops and stutters. Pauses mid movement to fully take in the sight of you in his haori, the traditional japanese attire, and little else.
Breakfast is forgotten about as he strides towards you, hands wandering over your body and lips on your skin in an instant.
Maybe he can convince you to wear a kimono next.
Seong Taehoon
You stole his jacket.
Taehoon should stop spoiling you so much. He only has himself to blame. He's very attached to his green bomber. It's his trademark.
"Hands off! Get your own-"
His eyes adjust and he fully takes in the sight. Oh.
Taehoon hates hates people touching what is his (only child syndrome huh) but you in his jacket - ok maybe that he could learn to share.
The way it drapes over you, large and oversized. Your hand tucked into the sleeves... It's fucking cute, ok. His stomach does little somersaults at the view. Shit. He doesn't even care how cringe he sounds, he loves it.
Like a megaphone telling everyone to back off, you're spoken for.
Still. Taehoon is Taehoon and he's a little shit to the end. He'll make you plead and beg a little for his jacket. Whine a bit about how cold you are or how comfortable it is.
He'll throw it at your head every time but preens when you slip it on.
And... bonus: Wedding bands
Taehoon never gave it much of a thought, never gave marriage much of a thought. If you wanted to, sure that's cool with him. No? That's fine too.
Once married though, there's something about wedding bands that he absolutely loves. The matching set, two halves of a whole.
He finds himself playing with yours a lot. Taking your hand in his. Spinning, touching it on your finger.
And when he can't play with it, he looks at it. Yours or his. It seems to always catch the light just right and he can't look away.
Quite simply, it makes him happy.

Your art for it is so cute, what's Kamen Rider SD? I want to get into it :D
yesss.... fall into my trap... mwhahaha >:3c (also thank you ^v^)
SD in general means Super Deformed, it's a chibi style that's not unique to Kamen Rider (Gundam also has a bunch of SD stuff, mentioning it here bc i love those models :3)
But since you're asking in relation with my art, here's the ones I made art for:
SD The Great Battle
A series of videogames that's a crossover between Kamen Rider, Gundam and Ultraman characters, all in the SD style. An original character called Fighter Roar joins the team from the second game on. They're very fun and wacky game that don't really have a coherent plot but we love them for that :3 In IV they get a giant robot (Compatible Kaiser my beloved) and in V they're cowboys. I love the cowboy outfits so much. Games one to five have english fan translations, now I need someone to translate Gaia Saver because apparently that one has the Rider Killer lore....
Kamen Rider SD: Strange!? Man Spider (or simply Kamen Rider SD OVA)
If you've been around the fandom you probably already know this one. It's a 30 minutes short where RX and the other Battle Riders (Ichigo and ZX) have to rescue RX's crush from shocker, with the help of the Mechanic Riders (V3, X and Super1). Wild Team (Stronger, Amazon and Nigo) appears for like. 3 minutes total at the end but they're my darlings and I love them. Other very important thing in this short is the Rider Carrier, a giant robot grasshopper that acts as their base and I think every version of the riders shoul have a giant grasshopper base not just the SDs u.u This short is apparently an adaptation from the Mighty Riders manga, but I haven't investigated it yet so I can't confirm that. It's also connected to a couple more SD videogames, Sortie!! Rider Machines and Run! Mighty Riders (the team names come from here as far as I can tell)
Kamen Rider SD: Hurricane Legend / Kamen Rider SD: Legend of the Stormy Age
(listen. I know the direct translation is the first one. But the second one is on the back cover so if they gave it an official english title I'm using that :P)
This is probably the one you're asking for, but I wanted to use the excuse to talk about the other two :P
I'll be honest, going in blind on this one is probably the best experience. Do not look up panels you will get spoiled. The basic plot is V3 and Riderman travel around to recruit the other Riders to defeat Shocker. I want to talk about it more but again, I had so much fun going "WHAT!?!" while reading it that I must resist- Might post more about them but will tag it as spoilers
Other SD stuff that I care less about, for completionist sake:
• there's a third SD manga (Kamen Rider SD: Roaring Laughs School) that I know nothing of (I think it's a 4koma gag manga? I'll be honest I'm not very interested in it so I haven't done much research);
• the most recent SD game is SD Shin Kamen Rider Rumble, a game for the movie, but that one seems to be simply a side scroller so again, no interest from me;
• Lost Heroes 1 and 2 technically use chibi-ish versions of Riders, Gundams and Ultramen, and are part of the Compati Hero series (the same series as The Great Battle), but they don't have SD in the title;
•there's. sooooo many sports games in the Compati Hero series. I like the Battle Dodgeball ones :3 Also speaking of Compati Hero, special mention to Super Hero Operations because that's the next one I wanna play, I get to meet Zubat, Metalder and a bunch of others there :3
#kiri.text#kamen rider sd#.....should I tag each series.#sd the great battle#kamen rider sd (ova)#kamen rider sd: legend of the stormy age#...whoops it's been two hours since i started writing this i got carried away#also anon if you get into any of this feel free to come back and talk to me about them! :D I need someone to talk about them with!!!#anon or anyone that wants of course

Ghosts of Our Pasts
DP x DC crossover
Damian Wayne and Danny Fenton siblings AU
Parts 1 & 2 Part 3.
Part 4
He looked more like Bruce than Damian did, which felt right for the brother that had died leaving the assassins.
Danyal's stance was not a League of Assassin's stance. It could be that he was trying not to look openly hostile, but if Dick was honest, it reminded him most of Wonder Woman. Danyal stood like he might throw himself into the air with no expectation of gravity pushing him back down. Interesting, but de-escalation first.
"Richard Grayson," Dick introduced himself with a wave, "But you can call me Dick."
Danyal's lips did the little twitch that everyone's lips did when he told them his nickname. Daynal didn't relax yet though.
"Hi, Dick, I'm Danny."
"I'm Tim, but we established that... and you know Damian..."
The silence stretched.
"Well, if that's all you guys wanted..." Danny took a few steps backwards deeper into the alley, never letting any of them out of view.
"I should have gone with you." Damian said. It was an apology; though someone who didn't know him might not realize. "...I did not understand, not until I came here..."
Danny closed his eyes, looking away for the first time, clearly internalizing something in Damian's words. With every second, he seemed to realize that no attack was coming, and none was going to come.
"Maybe we should go back to the coffee shop?" Tim suggested, good. A neutral, public place would ease at least some of the tension.
Danny grimaced, a hand coming to rub the back of his neck. "Yeah, I sorta... I need to head back there..."
"Okay, cool," Dick said, as if the tension still didn't require tools to cut.
The walk back was an awkward mess of everyone trying to stay in Danny’s eyeline despite the crowd and him pretending he wasn't nervous when he couldn't see them. Dick had already decided that if Danny ran again, he was going to make sure they let him run. Chasing would only make him trust them less, and Danny wasn't a criminal (probably).
He gave them all an unreadable look as they re-entered the coffee shop. Dick wasn't sure what to make of it until an older bald man declared, "Mr. Fenton!"
"Sorry, Mr. Lancer..." Danny said, every bit a sheepish high-schooler. He sat down at the table he'd been at before the chase as the older man began a lecture about safety in big cities and staying with the group. Well... that complicated things.
The barista called Tim's drink.
---
"Are you good, man?" Tucker asked as soon as Lancer's attention went back to focusing on the group as a whole and not just their table.
"I think so, Tuck, but, uh... this... I don’t know, I don't think the just chilling plan is gonna work..."
"Is this related to Gotham? I thought she gave you permission?"
"She didn't just give me permission, Sam, she welcomed me... I know why now... its just complicated..."
"So... is that why the Wayne's were chasing you?" It was said like a joke.
Sam's eyes widened when he answered. "Yeah,"
Tucker stuttered out a confused mix of excited syllables, "Does that mean we get to meet—"
"Their just people, Tucker." Sam reminded, "Spoiled rich kids who at least manage to cause a scene at every other gala, so they get to rank slightly higher than all the other rich kids, because at least their not boring."
"Sam!" Tuckers exclamation caught Lancer's attention. The teacher called on them to restate what he had said. Sam guessed correctly, Tucker and Danny did not, and so the lecture started over.
Danny patiently waited for the lecture to end before whispering, "You guys know how I'm adopted..."
"Yeah..."
"So..." Danny gestured to the group of siblings that appeared to be arguing over... napkins? What were they doing?
"Wait, you know the Wayne's? Why didn't you ever say something?" Tucker exclaimed.
"Uh... well, the League of Assassins stuff..."
"Uh huh,"
"Actually, thats a bad way to explain it... my biological father is Batman."
"The Batman?!" For all of her 'people are just people' talk, Sam was too excited.
"Yes, and I can't fully explain all this without getting into identity stuff."
"Danny, Danny, Danny, first of all fair, but second, how far off is Wes?"
Danny tried very hard to not react to that. Which apparently was the same as saying yes, so he shushed them before they could start.
"I don't know how he connects to the League. This is more secret than mine, okay?"
They sobered, argued that phantom was equally important, but Danny didn't budge. So they excepted it as a weird obsession thing and agreed.
"Wait so, how did you not end up a Wayne kid?"
"The assassins have access to ectoplasm and I traded some for my parents to hide me."
"I hate that that tracks."
"To be fair, I didn't understand how actually messed up it was until later."
"Wait, so is Batman apart of..."
"I don't know, I thought he was. But the fact that I'm not stabbed right now is a good sign."
"You say that like you were planning on letting yourself get stabbed..."
Danny sighed, "It would be easier to fake my death... or like, actually die for a few days, than to resist and have them realize I'd require ending."
"Great." Sam said with forced cheer. "How are we modifying the vacation plans?"

Did you like cc3 or love? Neither?
oh hello, why don't you pull up a chair because I have finished this book and I have Thoughts. I was thinking for a good chunk of this book that I would give it 2 stars. I still might. It depends on how it sits with me over the next couple of weeks. I ended up giving it 3 because I did enjoy some parts.
I will start with the more positive thoughts.
I am glad that the crossover was limited. One of my fears was that the series be unavoidably intertwined from here on out, so that pleases me.
I really did like seeing how Nesta has grown, her friendship with Azriel, and seeing more interesting things with his powers! That was really neat.
I did laugh out loud a couple of times, at points where I was supposed to laugh out loud. I think Tharion is dumb as hell but he made me chuckle.
The scene with Ithan and Sabine towards the end was good, I was like Gordon Ramsay, finally, some delicious fucking consequences.
Ummm... I like Ruhn and Lidia still. They had some silly moments, but overall they are the only characters in this book that I still have a shred of respect for. Maybe Perry and Sathia. Everyone else is on thin fucking ice.
Shout out to the one (1) line Bryce said that I liked: “I’m sick and tired of people using 'girl' as an insult.”
Unfortunately, the list of things I didn't like is far longer. I'm actually going to put it under the cut if people don't want their enjoyment spoiled or simply don't care.
In my opinion, sjm is a good storyteller, and an okay writer. This book really, really highlighted that for me. The plotting was a mess, I was constantly going back a page because I was confused about what was going on, there were weird inconsistencies that only made sense if you stepped back from the book and thought "well, the author needed that to happen, I guess."
There were some typos and word choice errors that should have been caught - "every muscle in Bryce's body went taught" and then a missing quotation mark (But it was Aidas who answered, pride flaring on his face. Apollion slew her with his Helfire when she attacked him—he pulled her burning heart from her chest and ate it.”). Not to mention the 255 "could have sworns" and 50-something "as if". I noticed a few similar phrases to this. If I'm feeling spicy one day maybe I will go back and find them.
The number of times she says "by whatever power" or "somehow" in a book where she has spent a lot of time explaining the power, and we should know what the "somehow" is???
Who in the ever loving fuck thinks that splitting up two tense scenes by cutting them into bite sized pieces and then interspersing them together is a good idea???
There were multiple times when I laughed out loud at scenes that were not meant to be funny, because they just seemed so dumb. Like... Ithan "accidentally" beheading Sigrid. Excuse me?? lmao (I edited this one because in my annoyance I misrepresented that a bit)
The tone was so, so off. That was a big source of my inappropriate laughing. Like, Hunt thanking Urd that he had such a loyal, fierce badass mate. Or a chapter starting with Ruhn saying "nah". I think this is because the genre could not decided what it wanted to be. SJM was still writing like this was high fantasy, but then used the word "like" in the way that I use the word "like". I do get that this is urban fantasy and she tried to smush it with a high fantasy (a high fantasy with very little world building, but still), but I really do not think that this genre serves sjm's style of storytelling. At all.
Dear powers that be in whatever heaven that exists, please stop letting sjm describe every single character as the most strongest beautiful fiercest loyal badass tough unflenching etc etc etc. I fucking beg. One of the big reasons that I dislike pretty much every character in this series is that they ALL HAVE THE SAME PERSONALITY.
Bryce is annoying as hell. I could write a whole essay on her but she is easily my least favorite sjm character EVER.
I am bitter at feeling like I needed to read this book when, after hosab, I would have given up on this series if not for the crossover.
The crossover really did feel like a "teehee I can do this because I want to" with very, very little thought as to how it would actually make sense. A crossover like this should NOT be done by someone who doesn't outline, and who pantses their writing. Pantsing is fine in itself! Pantsers should be barred from writing this kind of book.
Hunt's dick is too big for his underwear.

X-Manhunt announced - 2nd X-Men crossover event
So the first From The Ashes crossover isn't over yet and the next has already been announced. That's to be expected as ~3 months is normal-ish lead time for something like this. I think it should have waited, however. Spoilers under the cut and you can find more details here.
I wonder who that could be. Harvey X?
X-Manhunt revolves around Charles Xavier escaping from prison and doing something mysterious for everyone's benefit - something about a telepathic plague (sounds like Cassandra Nova to me.) While I think the event has promise, it spoils Raid on Graymalkin, which still has 2 issues to go AKA half the event. Chuck isn't going anywhere until March, severely blunting the stakes and tension of an event that struggles with both already. Xavier stays in prison, Graymalkin remains operational and the bad guys win. Oh yeah, turns out Chuck can escape any time he likes too.
Could they really not have pushed this back 2 weeks? Personally I never thought Graymalkin would be 'broken' as Cyclops declared, and odds were low Chuck would be freed, but knowing that it's 0% just makes me want the event to be over. The Rogue/Cyclops feud has been hyped up and not delivered except for OOC interactions and pointless punching.
How can Rogue and Cyclops become the 'new Xavier and Magneto' dynamic when we know Xavier is coming back in 3 months? Don't get me wrong, I've said that it's a ridiculous notion from the start, but I would have liked to see them try and pull it off. You can't make statements like that and not deliver if you want readers to trust your words.
Another implication of this event is that Xavier is returning, but readers of Uncanny X-Men haven't really had a chance to miss him. When talking with @kalinara recently about Xavier's X-Men Legacy arc, I said I'd enjoy a redux of that (maybe we both said it actually, I like their opinions.) I stand by that, but a caveat was the people he's hurt not letting him off the hook this time. I want Xavier to learn and grow, to interact meaningfully with the recent past. While I remain hopeful on that front, Conductor of X Tom Brevoort has been very open about playing the hits and going backwards from Krakoa.
I'm trying to be mindful of writing too much negativity about From The Ashes books and Tom Brevoort. I don't want to be repetitive and curmudgeonly - but I also commit to good faith analysis and criticism, something you don't do unless you love something. The tension there comes from decisions like this. Explicitly spoiling an ongoing event is just bad publishing practice.
It's good to know that Storm, X-Factor (surely someone likes it, I loved Polaris calling out Havok at least), X-Force etc - the books most likely to get cancelled - will still be around in 3 months. It's even better to know that a line wide crossover event means greater connectivity between books, even if editorial has explicitly said it's something they're avoiding. Those are my thoughts, what do you think about this announcement?

20 Questions for Fic Writers
thanks @liminalmemories21 @lemonlyman-dotcom for the tags! It's been a minute since I've done a version of this game
1. How many works do you have an AO3? 92
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 678,345 but that includes a bunch of collabs and co-written fics so not all of those words are mine. I never tracked my actual word count, but at a guess I'd say at least 150,000 of those words aren't my own
3. What fandoms do you write for? Red, White & Royal Blue, 911 Lone Star and, theoretically, Schitt's Creek although it's been a very long time since I've written any SC fic.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? leaving out the multi-author collabs that I've contributed a chapter to, I am unsurprised that these are all RWRB fics:
Everybody needs good neighbours | RWRB | E | neighbours au | 14.3k
to the victor, the spoils | RWRB | E | lawyer au | 19.4k
yours for the afternoon | RWRB | T | coffee shop meet cute | 4.6k
What, like it's hard? | RWRB | E | lawyer au prequel | 65.1k
this one surprised me because I haven't actually checked my stats in ages:
Are You Screwing With Me? | RWRB | E | grindr au | 6.5k
5. Do you respond to comments? I try to! I'm not particularly punctual about it though.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? The only fic(let) I've ever written with an angsty(ish) ending hasn't been published and I'm not sure it ever will, but it's the result of @howtosingit saying something like, "whatever you do, don't imagine that the Huntington's test went the other way and the ending of Queen Charlotte."
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? all of them? idk they all have happy endings, maybe What, like it's hard? (obligatory A/N to say do not read that fic if you haven't read to the victor, the spoils first, please.)
8. Do you get hate on fics? It's not a regular thing, thankfully.
9. Do you write smut? lol (that's a yes).
Oh actually! Lil bit of railmedaddy lore: when I first started writing SC fic and chose my ao3 name (which was inspired by Dan Levy's appearance on SNL), it was meant to be a joke because railmedaddy was never ever going to write smut, didn't think she'd be capable of ever doing that, actually. That lasted all of ... maybe 6 months.
10. Do you write crossovers? The closest I've ever come is this snippet in response to an ask about how and where David, Patrick, Alex, Henry, Carlos and TK might meet.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of, I hope not!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! Make the Yuletide Gay (Tarlos) was translated into simplified Chinese. I was honoured that anyone would want to go to the trouble of doing that!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? yes, with @welcometololaland my beloved 💖 and I love doing it because it's so much fun
Call Me (By My Name) | Tarlos | E | phone sex au | 65.5k
(Un)professional Services | Tarlos | E | lawyer/accountant au | 63.3k
I do have a bunch of other collaborations, but they're not co-written per se, in that we each wrote a chapter but didn't necessarily write the whole thing together.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I'm not sure that there's anything in actual WIP form with words on the page that I both want to finish and don't think I will? There are a lot of ideas that I'd like to write but don't think will ever actually happen.
16. What are your writing strengths? Someone tell me, please. Thinking about comments on my fics and the things that I actually like writing (I think my writing is better when I'm really enjoying it), it's probably banter and smut with feelings.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? World building, pretty metaphors and similes. I think my writing is repetitive so don't look too closely, especially if you read my fics in more than one fandom.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? If it's in character, then why not? The times I have included substantial Spanish dialogue, I have a native Spanish speaker look over it and help with translations because I don't want to rely on google translate.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Schitt's Creek
20. Favorite fics you've written? The collabs with Lola I linked ^^, The Grindr Toolbox: A Guide to Getting Nailed series is something that I had so much fun with and I'm very proud of, who am i if i can't carry it all aka June fic which I poured my heart and soul into, I don't think there's any other fic I've written that has so much of myself in it, this year i will fall which is my RWRB Hallmark Christmas fic.
tagging @welcometololaland @kiwiana-writes (mostly to make you compliment yourself again ily) @indestructibleheart @three-drink-amy @reyesstrand @carlos-in-glasses @heartstringsduet @orchidscript + open tag

Personal Rant: I've been ignoring this one for months. I'm sure I'll bring it up plenty, but BBC Sherlock was my life 10 years ago. Reviewing fics on fuckyeahjohnlockfanfic was such a joy and I have so much fondness and nostalgia for that part of my past. Good Omens is the first time I've engaged in fandom at all since then. I was betrayed by Season 4, I had lost my love for fan spaces, tumblr was emptying. I moved on. But the day I finished Good Omens season two I dived headfirst back into this world. It's been nonstop every day since then for me. I started reading 2-3 fics a DAY again. I kept thinking how insane it would be to start reviewing again. But this series? Idk, I didn't think I wanted to engage with Sherlock again. I thought it'd be too weird, maybe too cringe to indulge in something I thought I "grew out" of. But since I've been working on this new review blog I thought it was time. And oh my god I can't tell you how good this felt. I feel like my Moffat induced heartbreak is starting to heal. So enough about me, let's talk about this series.
*Minor Spoilers* I'll let you guys find out for yourselves just how it happens, but let's say eventually Sherlock and John team up with Aziraphale and Crowley. The first series is set just after the Apocalypse-that-wasn't, and in Sherlock canon in between S1 and S2. The second installment is set post S4 of Sherlock. I am overwhelmed by how much I enjoyed this series. I had assumed I knew how this would go. I thought it was going to be a predictable checklist of crossover tropes. My eyes were practically rolling before I gave this a chance. I wanted to hate it, maybe to prove that I was totally over my past love of Sherlock. But its good. It's entertaining, it's surprising, it's funny, it makes sense.
This is mostly a Good Omens story. If you were never that into Sherlock you'll mostly be able to follow along fine, but I'm not sure the opposite is true. Crowley and Aziraphale are sickeningly in love, and I ate it up. Their relationship is established by the time this starts, but it's been maybe a year (?) since the Notcalypse. John and Sherlock are firmly in their canon of "I'm not his date". I can't spoil it for you, you'll have to see yourself, but how John reacts to Aziraphale just took me out. I was shocked. I had to walk around for a bit. It was unexpected, bold, I wanted to hate it and I loved it. It shouldn't have made sense! Moving on before I spoil...I just can't believe that this series took all the assumptions I had about the rapport between all of them and just chucked them out. Characterizations are all amazing, though I feel Sherlock's presence was a little quiet at times. I feel like he should have noticed more was off sooner than he does. But that can all be explained by supernatural interference so I don't really care too much. This plays with Sherlock canon in such a way that's just like, oh totally that actually makes perfect sense. And it's so smart to skip over past plot lines that it knows we're familiar with. We don't need to go over scenes we all have ingrained in our memories, let's enjoy the story happening right now. And it handles S4 so well. The thing that ruined Sherlock for a lot of people. It's not waved away, but just moved on from and brings Rosie into the second series.
I could spend days in this combined universe. I love the banter between Crowley and Aziraphale. They’re also very Gomez and Morticia here. Very secure in their relationship and madly in love. Extremely possessive Crowley, so expect some fun moments with that. Protective of each other, but also have complete trust in the other’s ability. I love their clumsy half hearted attempts at being human and that it completely goes over everyone's heads. Come on Sherlock! Cosmo and Wanda aint slick!! It's fun and silly. It's the kind of fanfic that makes your cheeks hurt from smiling too much. But it's not shallow. It has some excellent insight. Even though Sherlock and John are not the stars here, they still get their moments to shine. In the second installment there is a line about their bond being foraged not in the danger of their lives but in the quiet and gentle in-between and I wanted to cry. It was so healing for my broken Johnlock heart.
This post is much too long already. If you are a fan of both series, just do me a solid and read it. I just know you'll like it. Embrace the silly, warm your heart with the rest, and enjoy it. It's completely safe for public, but it was incredibly annoying to have to keep walking away from it. My next read will be at home, and very soon.

Hiya! Just wanted to drop by and say hi and thanks for reaching out and saying hi on my silly little post about talking about DD :,)
I love seeing all the Paracelsus enjoyers, she is the best shrimp posture doctor. <3 Do you have any personal favourite/niche headcanons for her?
Also good luck with your exams! Are you studying medicine/biomedicine? (I did a few classes a few years ago, and kudos -- it's so much material, especially the anatomy classes.) Do you have a favourite class? :o
Hi hi! :D! I put the personal stuff under a read more because by GOD can I ramble </3
Of course! I always like saying hi to people I see in the Darkest Dungeon tag! I think your art is SO lovely too!! I adore the way you draw Dismas and Reynauld!! They're so shapely in your style <3 pair that up with a Bloodborne crossover?? you're spoiling us fans fr!!
I'm a Para enjoyer first and foremost because I relate with the thirst for random medical knowledge that Para has, and also her bird motif!! (She's bird-like in my heart and soul. And I'm a bird enjoyer <3)
I have a few stray headcanons for her, mostly everything is about her scope of practice because that's where my thought process tends to stray when I study. We know that she's named after the father of toxicology, so most of her study goes into figuring out external agents effects on the human body. Though, I like to imagine her to have side interest in hematology as well! Mixing blood with a bunch of other agents seems like something she would be interested at least. (Perhaps that's how she finds out about blood types...*cough* I've been thinking about writing a Paracelsus fic about this for literal months *cough*)
This is a personal thing of mine, but I refuse to believe that Paracelsus actually believed in Humorism. I mean, the first iteration of it was basically a glorified personality test, nay horoscopes! (Yes I know that knowledge was limited back then, but alas, I'd like to imagine her scope is more experimental than observational.)
So instead I headcanon her to--if not the progenitor of Germ Theory--then at least a constituent of it. I think she and Louis Pasteur would have really fun conversations about it.
Another stray headcanon I have is that she receives the equivalent of a newspaper subscription from historical medical practitioners/researchers. So her daily newspaper could be about Edward Jenner's vaccine studies or Ferdinand Cohn's endospores. I don't care that the two of them existed 100 years apart, if we can have a 7th century BC Roman Vestal and a 14th century Plague Doctor in the same room then I can have Edward Jenner and Andrew Wakefield ("vaccines cause autism" guy) duking it out in scientific papers that Paracelsus reads like a WWE match.
Thank you for the luck fellow science enjoyer! Are you also studying medicine :0!?
Thankfully, my exam period is finally over, so I'm taking it easy with recuperating with the post-exam burnout :P And I'm a health major with a nutrition minor, but with a program path towards perfusion! My far-future end goal is to become a surgeon, but due to life circumstances I'll have to settle for perfusion for the time being :P Which I don't mind at all! I think it's such an interesting field, and a hidden hero for many cardiac surgeries! I also really like learning about the circulatory system so I think it's a little perfect ehehe :D!
My favorite class is currently Anatomy & Physiology, I have a really good professor this year, but my god It's actually a lot more complex than I thought it was gonna be while walking in. I genuinely thought it was mostly memorizing like...the bones of the skeleton and perhaps the muscles or something like that. Nahhh it takes a lot of micrology concepts too ;; Which I don't mind! But some days I'm staring at some topics like the neuromuscular junction and wishing I never knew what acetylcholine was. Though some days I do wish to return to Medical Terminology, that class was what I imagined: simple.
Thank you so much for this ask!! It was lovely talking about it!!
#I'm always down for some Paracelsus chatter! I like talking about medical stuff!#perhaps itll help me study too AHAHAH <3#darkest dungeon#this bird responds

Since I'm still obsessed with Death Note, and never got over my obsession with Kaiji I've thought of a little thing for fun: a crossover AU! It takes place in Kaiji universe but all characters are replaced by Death Note characters. The plot is also mostly taken from Kaiji. I just love to imagine DN characters in those gambles :^)
Spoilers for Death Note and Kaiji (part 3-6 included) under the cut. I suspect most Kaiji fans have seen DN but I don't want to spoil Kaiji for the DN fans :^) (watch and read it it's soo goooood)
First things first: the world is not supernatural so both the Death Notes and shinigami don't exist. Teiai company still exists and serves as the main "antagonist". Sometimes a DN character replaces multiple Kaiji characters, or multiple DN characters replace one Kaiji chara.
Light (unlike Kaiji who is forced to gamble because of his debt) starts gambling because he's bored. He also has the second motive of taking down Teiai, because he's anti capitalist and that's his idea of justice. The Teiai CEO is a mysterious person named L, and nobody has ever seen their face.
Also: I didn't want Teiai to be TOO evil in this AU, since L is the one in charge of it, so they don't do death gambles. That's not saying much since the debtors and the underground mines still exist... Just bear with me, Light is the good guy here (Kaiji) so L HAS to be the bad guy (Hyodo).
Light's first gamble happens on Espoir. He sneaks on the ship, unlike debtors who got invited. Tonegawa's speech is given by Naomi Misora, who in this AU replaces both Tonegawa and Lind L Tailor (I wanted to use him, but he's such a non character that his role can be done by Naomi). Naomi introduces herself as L and Light really wants to gamble against her but he needs to make a name for himself first.
Light plays restricted rock paper scissors against his first victims. Nobody dies in this AU but they go into even bigger debt.
Light gets invited to another gamble, brave men road. This probably needs to be reworked in the AU because it's too deadly originally. I think it's still a more physical game, but without the risk of death. His opponents are FBI members (here they just belong to Teiai). Light wins and they get fired.
Naomi wants revenge for her fiance that Light defeated and Light wants to gamble with L so they agree to play E-card. I think, unlike in Kaiji, here only Light is cheating (somehow). Light wins and meets the actual Teiai CEO, L Lawliet/Ryuzaki. They gamble with the tissue box raffle and L outcheats Light and wins.
L admits that he's watched Light's previous gambles and wants him on the team, because if left unatended Light might bring Teiai a lot of harm.
L is very anti cheating in this AU, despite always cheating in his gambles. The rest of Teiai doesn't cheat though, and L hunts down people that do. He suspects that Light is cheating as well, but he can't prove it. He wants Light close to him so he can see him cheating.
Light's first task and "test" before joining Teiai is to inspect a casino subservient to Teiai and its owner, Misa Amane. L thinks that she's rigging the machines. At first Misa is trying to prevent Light from winning, but somewhere along the way she falls for him and rigs the pachinko in his favor. (I thought of a background for this: her parents were Teiai debtors and when the debt got too big they killed themselves. Misa was hired by Teiai to work off their debt. Somewhere during Light playing the pachinko machine he gives a speech how he hates Teiai and wants to destroy them and Misa starts to support his cause). Light fights with the bog (BTW the bog is designed after Rem. Shinigami don't exist in this AU, but it's a nice nod. Maybe instead of man eating bog it's called god of death or something.) and wins the jackpot. L suspects that Light only won because of Misa's rigging, so they must be conspiring together. Light's winnings are seized and Misa is fired.
Both Light and Misa are thrown into Teiai's underground mines, where debtors have to work off their debt. Soichiro learns that his son was a gambler behind his back, but he thinks he doesn't deserve the mines. He pleads to L and L gives Light another chance to prove himself (he was planning to anyway, because he doesn't have concrete evidence of Light cheating), by playing chinchiro against his closest employees (Soichiro, Aizawa, Matsuda). Light wins by cheating and officially becomes a member of Teiai. Misa is also freed from the mines.
Misa moves in with Light and his parents. The atmosphere is tense, Soichiro (replacing Sakazaki) is very dissapointed by Light for being a dirty gambler (but... Soichiro works for the gambling company too? maybe he didn't want Light to follow into his footsteps) and Misa is very clingy despite the lack of interest from Light (the park date scene with Mikoko and Kaiji plays exactly the same).
Some time passes and L approaches Light with a job. He wants Light to gamble against the president of a rival company, Yotsuba. Their profits have been rising and L suspects foul play is involved. With Higuchi as Muraoka and L as Kazuya, Light plays minefield mahjong. Turns out Higuchi is cheating, so Light has to outcheat him to win. Namikawa fills Miyoshi's role in giving hints to Light, but unlike Miyoshi he's not on president's side. He knows he used dirty tricks to get his position and he wants to bring him down. Helping Higuchi (as Maeda) can be any of the Yotsuba men who aren't too antagonistic towards him in canon. Maybe Ooi? Or all of them. Maybe he has some dirt on them and they're all forced to help him. Anyway, Light wins and bankrupts Higuchi.
After the gamble L wants to spend time with Light. I don't think the whole Kazuya hen happens, but they talk about their ideologies and agree to gamble together.
ONE POKER. A special gamble where the loser dies. Well, can die. This time Light outcheats L and the Teiai CEO dies. Light now has in his posession over 2 billion yen he won in this gamble.
Teiai doesn't believe he owns the money legitemately so the chase begins. Light runs with the money. He allies himself with Mikami and Takada (as Chang and Mario), who support his goal of bringing down Teiai. The new Teiai CEO is selected and it's Near. Near also replaces Endo, leading the chase after Light (along with Mello, who is unafiliated with Teiai. Maybe he was next in line and he wants to prove he's better than Near).
And that's the plot for now :^) I swapped the underground arc and pachinko arc to fit Death Note plot better, and skipped some events.

20 Questions for Writers
Thank you for the tag @ladysongmaster! I can't recall if I've done this one before!
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 137
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 3,126,209
3. What fandoms do you write for? Star Wars ninety percent of the time. A smattering of Hornblower, one for Narnia, one in Silverado, getting into some original work as well.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Mirjahaal
Bajur
He Who Sheds His Blood With Me
Forging Ahead
I Felt You In My Bones
5. Do you respond to comments?
As much as possible. Made a resolution to do so more quickly xD
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Hm. I tend to like happier endings and put all the angst in the middle. xD So...ponders. I think it's a short one from one of my Star Wars collections called 'And a Child Shall Lead Them'.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I have a lot of those I'm glad to say. But the most joy...quite likely the one for Brothers In Arms for...reasons. Don't want to spoil it. Though When the Mighty Don't Fall is a close second place.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
One time. But, deleted, blocked, done. :D
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Nope.
10. Do you write crossovers?
No. I'm sure folks can do it well---just not my cup of tea.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
An attempt was made once by one of those weird 'companies' through Amazon, but they took care of it fast.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
A wonderful person has translated a TON of them into Russian!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes I have! Doing one now as a matter of fact.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
This could be several categories. xD In books? Toss up between Harriet Vane/Peter Wimsey and Faramir/Eowyn.
Movies? Han/Leia [shocking] and Etienne Navarre/Isabeau d'Anjou from Ladyhawke.
And of course---epic platonic friendship--Piett and Veers
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I have a Hornblower collection that I have not touched in too long, but I ALSO finish stories, so it will happen. At some point.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Likely character building, dialogue and action.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Description, pacing and editing. However, I write largely for fun-- being more lenient about editing for myself at the moment.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I have done it for Hornblower for realism but I don't often do so.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Star Trek actually. xD In high school. I don't think I even knew to call it fan fic then. I just loved Chekov from the original series. I grew up with the movies in the Eighties you see. Dates me I know. xD
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
This is the all time hardest question about my writing. I like various of my fics for very different reasons. So I'm sorry, but I'll have to say more than one.
Brothers In Arms because exploring Max and Firmus as friends from the Academy was a DELIGHT. Then throwing in Myra and Sola...yeah I had a lovely time with all the characters and action in that fic.
In terms of really getting a setting and having a blast with historical fiction---War in the Shadows. I am a history NERD and I think I did pretty well with accurate time period world building while using Star Wars characters. ;D
And Mirjahaal hit a lot of delightful notes for me to play with so I have to mention it.

Hi! I love your meta btw, your recent posts reminded me that yu gi oh exist lol i used to watch it as a kid but I don't remember anything so I wanted to ask you what's the best watch order and (maybe) your general opinion about the various spinoff
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters: I'd recommend watching this one first because every spin-off after this one either recycles archetypes, or subverts tropes from the original so it'll enhance your viewing experience.
Afterwards, the simplest is release order. GX -> 5DS are in the same continuity as Duel Monsters, and they have a crossover Film Bonds Beyond Time.
Zexal's basically a standalone it has no connection to the previous, but I'd reccomend watching it after Duel Monsters because there are a lot of references in plot and tropes to the original.
You need to have watched GX, 5DS, and Zexal to understand Arc-V because they reference settings and characters from the original series. It's basically every single Yu-Gi-Oh! Series fights in a Denny's Parkinglot.
You don't need to see any previous series to watch Vrains.
You need to watch Sevens before Go!Rush because the main character of Sevens shows up in Go!Rush, and Go!Rush is a prequel sort of kind of.
As for my general opinions and reccomendations, below the cut:
Duel Monsters is the original and sets the standard. I think the manga is better on this one because it acknowledges Death-T, which I think is crucial for Kaiba's development. He did more than just steal one of Yugi's Grandpas cards. The arc of the main characters Yugi and Yami with Yugi learning confidence and Yami unlearning arrogance is really good, especially in the manga where Yami starts out as a lowkey serial killer. Battle City and Duelist Kingdom are also two really good tournament arcs, Battle City in particular is probably the best Tournament Arc in the Series.
Yu-Gi-Oh GX! Is my personal favorite but it's a mess. I've once heard it described as "GX is two seasons of absurdist nonsense, and then a complete emotional breakdown." In my opinion there's a lot of good foreshadowing and buildup for what will happen in Season 3, and Season 3 is one of the best shonen deconstruction arcs especially of it's main protagonist in anything ever.
Honestly the worst part of Season 1 and 2 for me isn't even the pacing, it's that it recycles plot points from Yu-Gi-Oh! but less good. The Seven Shadow riders just do shadow duels because they did that in original Yu-Gi-Oh, there are three super powerful cards like the Egyptian God Cards. In season 2 there's a villain with a split personality like Marik, and the Genex tournament is really bad plotless meandering tournament arc compared to Battle City.
Season 3 is also masterful at utilizing things that were foreshadowed in the past 3 seasons, especially in regards to Judai's flaws which have been swept under the rug until now.
I think YGO GX is one of the best casts, and also one of the best at balancing screentime of its cast so characters show up when they're relevant and disappear when they're not relevant, and every major character has an arc. However, it's very much the Judai show, and if you're invested in a character that's not Judai you'll likely think your fave didn't get used to their fullest potential.
Yu-Gi-Oh 5DS has one of the best beginnings of any Yu-Gi-Oh series and it's excellent at building Fortune Cup -> Dark Signer and jacking up tension. Dark Signer, Barian Arc and Gx Season 3 are probably my top 3 arcs. I won't talk about it much because I don't want to spoil.
Season 2 is still good, and the ending is excellent as well as the villains, but the pacing becomes abysmal due to production issues. Carly and Aki are probably the two best female characters in all of Yu-Gi-Oh, and all their screentime and relevance gets erased. If you watch Yu-Gi-Oh for the duels, the relay duels suck and last 3 whole seasons and nobody gets to win a duel if they're not Yusei Fudo. As someone who really enjoyed Yusei in season 1, him becoming a perfect hero who always saves the day and never makes mistakes and never gets challenged signifcantly by the narrative because he's always right makes him super uninteresting. I want to clarify I think Yusei is still a character with depth and character flaws, but the narrative doesn't challenge him on this flaws. Aporia and Z-One do a lot to redeem Season 2 though and it ends on a real highpoint.
Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal is probably the highest quality Yu-Gi-Oh series overall, especially since there's no drop in quality ever it ends on it's highest point. Shark is probably the single best written character in all of Yu-Gi-Oh! and Vector is the best written villain.
I actually don't have much to say on Zexal because I don't want to spoil what's good about it. My only complaint is that it's cast is padded with way too many characters who do nothing. You could cut Yuma's entire friend group and lose absolutely nothing. The female characters in Zexal are abysmal too, the worst in any series. The characters with arcs though are all good and iconic.
It's also the only show that manages the ambiguity where none of the villains are actually villains, almost every single character has a sympathetic reason for what they're doing even the ones that are wrapped up in revenge plots. It gives a really interesting challenge to Yuma the pacifist protagonist who doesn't want to pick sides. Yuma's up there with Judai too in top ten protagonists.
Arc-V.... I think you can still have fun with Arc-V, but the Z-arc plotline just was not a good idea and it makes the show fundamentally flawed because everything from episode 20 onwards is built around the Z-Arc plotline.
Vrains has some solid ideas and themes. I especially love the emergent ai ideas that are present with the ignis and bohmann it's one of my favorite topics in science fiction. I've got two main problems number. I enjoy playmaker as a character, but much like Yusei I feel like over time he's not as challenged as character by his narrative. THough, the final season does a lot to rectify that.
Vrains second and biggest problem is that it plays it really safe after the production disaster that was Arc-V. Which means the first two seasons while enjoyable enough feel kind of by the numbers at times. The third season is amazing though, but it suffers from the series being cut short so it's only about 20 episodes. Still ending on a high note is always a good thing.
Sevens is kind of the closest to a slice-of-life Yu-Gi-Oh which makes it hard to compare to the other series. I do enjoy the main cast of characters, but to be honest it's really hard to get invested for me personally, when every arc is just "I hate Rush Duels. I'm going to try to destroy Rush Duels. Nevermind, Rush duels are awesome actually." Every. Single. Arc.
I'm only 16 episodes into Go-Rush and it's not finished yet, but my main take so far is: Yudias! Yudias! Yudias!

Dude I just sat down and read through the entire blog from start to finish and it's such a cool au. 10/10 I'm mentally unwell over all of these dynamics and the story. Taylor and Bryce having a sibling dynamic is the biggest brain bullshit I've ever seen and Bryce now being the one to have Texty (WHOM I HOPE WE GET TO SEE I LOVE THEM SO MUCH) and the crossover with tnm was actually what dragged me into the blog because I was curious and I don't regret a thing. Plus I love Ava here she's amazing she's perfect wonderful. And Owen's characterization is so fun
Also even if we didn't get to talk to him at all it was so silly having sketchpad be able to hear asks for 1 moment. I like to think he could hear everyone the whole time but was like "Yeah this is normal :)". It's also funny watching people jokingly pit Bryce and Owen against each other like you fools the backpack has two hands
Anyways 10/10 blog I'm now going to become deeply invested with this
I am SO SORRY YOU HAD TO DO THAT HAHA- I literally just made a 27 page summary in detail ( I tried my best ) covering this entire blog LOL
it may also have tiny tid bits of lore for people to see, but who knows
I really appreciate you for coming and checking this out!! It means the WORLD to me knowing you and others really enjoy this silly AU I've put together. To think I really just wanted to make a silly ask blog, turned to a now interactive AU experience for users is so crazy. It's so fun seeing peoples reactions, their interactions with characters, and seeing people's creations from this AU makes me so damn happy and excited. It drives me to strive for you guys, so you guys can enjoy this experience!!
YES! I love the dynamics between characters! Especially with Taylor and Bryce! And don't get me started with Ava, SHE NEEDS CONTENT TOO!!! <3 I'm so so happy people really like this AU
Let me tell you something. On a real level, I was so worried people wouldn't at all pick up or vibe with Owen's past stuff I made. I was very worried people wouldn't at all like it, or maybe even think it's weird. I hope I've done Owen some sort of justice!! :'] I would love to be able to flesh out more background characters, so that's fun to spoil.. hehe! :D
Thank you so much for checking this blog out!! I hope to see you around!!

@billy-royalton Sorry, but I couldn't reply to your question directly for some reason... Gotta go right now, so I typed this in a hurry, hope there aren't many typos and it's easy to understand! Xo 💗
Short Answer: Yes and yes. I've read all of the books, including the crossovers with the Mayfair Witches and New Tales of the Vampires (Pandora and Vittorio, the Vampire). Here's what I can tell you about these novels and how I feel about them…
Merrick: It is the most important book among the three. There are very important events regarding Louis and Claudia. The show has adapted some of that already (him walking into the sun on 2x05), but there might be more as soon as season 3 arrives. There's also a lot of Merrick and David on it, though I don't know if they will be written into the show or not (and if they do, I don't know how it will be). The writing for Merrick has a number of racial stereotypes, offensive lines and I don't know how accurate Anne's portrayal of candomble and voodoo was (based on what I know about umbanda, the only thing I know she got right was the name of certain deities). However, I believe Merrick is a great character, I fell in love with her and she's one of my favorites. Her family is a long line of witches and I was extremely intrigued by them. I understand why some people couldn't like the book, though. Because whether Anne meant it or not, it was indeed offensive. Still, I don't believe that ever ruined Merrick as a character or her personality. She was super likeable and compelling. My problem was more with the way David and Aaron acted and talked about her than her own behavior, if that makes sense. For me, the downside of this volume was having David's POV (he is one of the weakest narrators, I wish it was MERRICK's so I could see more of her or Lestat's), little Lestat and no Armand (I ALWAYS want to see him).
Blackwood Farm: The only main character on this one is Lestat and he doesn't appear as much. The story is mostly about this new character named Quinn (and to some extent, Mona Mayfair). I enjoyed it, and it was really creative, peculiar and dark in some aspects. His narration is O.K. There were some scenes here and there that were compelling. And there was a character who was intersex/gender-fluid and used multiple pronouns called Petronia that I really loved, even though they were… Well, complicated. I don't wanna spoil those stuff for you, but I could still empathize with them a lot, because they had such a tragic story that I believe explained a lot of their actions, just like how I feel about Armand and Lestat.
Blood Canticle: It is another book where only Lestat, Quinn and Mona show up. Quinn falls more to the back on this one, while Lestat, Mona and Rowan Mayfair are more present in the narrative. The plot didn't make a lot of sense for me and Rowan is probably the only female I never cared about, even if her story was appealing. Because the way I felt about her was close to how I felt about Louis on Merrick, like, you're a relevant character and big, dark, tragic things happened to you… But I just don't care. I did love Mona and Lestat entertained me because there was a lot of humor from him too. There are parts that he is rambling about becoming a saint and it's ridiculous and hilarious, it was very Lestat of him and I was laughing out loud late at night. I also enjoyed Lestat and Mona together, they had sort of a sibling-like rivalry and their childish bickering entertained me. There were times that Mona humbled him and I was shocked that she actually went there and threw certain stuff on his face. I was like, NO, YOU DIDN'T? OMG! And that girl is joining Lestat and Armand in the BPD squad, she might actually be worse than them. Lestat complaining about her had me like, sweetie, the call is coming from inside the house. So, it wasn't brilliant, some stuff were weird and nonsensical, but it was fun. This is also the only crossover I found a physical copy of, the others I read on my mobile so I can't talk about their length, but this one didn't even have 300 pages. It was a fast read for most of the time.
Conclusion? They aren't on my top 4, but I didn't struggle with them as I did with Memnoch the Devil or even Interview With the Vampire (I only liked Claudia and Armand on it), for that matter. I believe Merrick and Blackwood Farm are better than Blood Canticle, but it's hard to quantify and qualify the novels outside of my top 4 (TVA, TVL, Prince Lestat, TQOTD). Some might be better than others, but the difference isn't as huge as it is with those four, they're way above the rest (but I also love Vittorio and Pandora, people sleep on them, but they would be tied as my top 5). They didn't give me a lot of goosebumps and didn't leave a huge impact on me, but were mostly fine and some scenes, characters and dynamics were interesting. They're not necessary to read, though, except for maybe Merrick, so you can skip at least 2/3 and be fine… So just figure out what works for you and you'll be alright. Anyway, I hope this amount of information works for you and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask away!
