Complete: The Prince and the Naga (a fairytale)
Prince Aziraphale tries to prove himself to his family by going off to slay a beast… only to discover an unexpected ally and learn the real monsters were the ones he left behind.
Rated Explicit Words: 17,082
Art by Nfowleri
For @fairytalegobang
Our story begins, as many do, with a man on a journey. His name is Aziraphale, a prince of Celestia. It is a northern kingdom, vast and sprawling, replete with wealth and very powerful. The ruling family is ancient and known across many lands.
Aziraphale is a younger son, the heir to spare. He is also a knight of his own realm, trained and battle tested. One battle, that is. Only one. But he comported himself with sufficient skill and bravery to have earned the respect of his men. His family might disagree but only privately, around a long dining table, where his brothers and sisters exchange sneers and sharpen their tongues like knives.
Prince Aziraphale does not believe he is brave but he does know he is skillful, especially with the long sword currently slung across his back. The scabbard jostles despite being securely fastened and he will find a bruise beneath it come evening. He rides with some haste across the plains at the outskirts of the last village that marks Celestia’s borders. There are cavernous mountains up ahead.
He leaves before dawn, thanking the innkeeper and the innkeeper’s rather overly attentive wife, handing them a gold piece for their troubles. It would not do to lose a moment of daylight. Light was one of the only advantages he had.
It was rare for a Prince of any realm to venture out on his own and if his family had known his plan, they would have sent him with a dozen armed guards. If they had bothered to read the note he left behind—tucked into his favourite book—there might already be a King’s Guard party on his tail.
Prince Aziraphale is a man on a quest, which means he has a very particular destination in mind. In the mountains, he will seek glory and prove himself worthy of his crown.

in your own time, a Good Omens fanfic by @ineffabildaddy
Aziraphale and Crowley grew up together as next-door neighbours on Hogback Lane, classmates at the local Catholic school, and inseparable best friends. By the age of eighteen, both were hopelessly in love with the other, despite the knowledge that they were doomed to live apart, as Crowley aimed to pursue university study in London and Aziraphale committed himself to remaining in Tadfield, dedicating his life to the Church. After almost twenty years spent away from his hometown, renowned botanist Crowley decides to come and visit Tadfield again at a moment's notice; the purpose of his visit is to speak at a Careers Day for the school he and Aziraphale, now a beloved priest and a frequent helper at the school, attended. The twenty-four hours that follow will change both of their lives for ever.

Good Omens Fic Rec: angel and ash
When Crowley returns to London after nannying for Warlock, she begins to frequent queer venues using the name Ash, manifesting a deliberately transfeminine form. Feeling more at home in her corporation than she ever has before, she is eager to guard this treasured part of her life from her angelic and demonic counterparts. That is, until one evening, when a friend from the scene “sets her up” with a man known as Angel, whom Crowley immediately identifies as Aziraphale manifesting transmasculine characteristics. For the sake of discretion, they behave as handsome strangers to one another until they are alone at an afterparty later the same night. Crowley and Aziraphale’s attempts at physical intimacy through the ages have always been stilted, awkward and anticlimactic… but in this moment, Crowley is drawn even more strongly to Aziraphale than usual, and Aziraphale feels the same about Crowley. Both beings are truly at one with their own gender presentation and earnestly, amorously fascinated by the presentation of the other as their evening together builds to a tender, breathless climax.

*Minor Spoilers* There is a level of quality I have come to expect from this author (and friend), but my favorite thing is how each new story completely surprises me. I never know exactly what I'll find, and I'm always blown away. And this story of a trans presenting angel and demon is no exception.
This is a canon setting (veered off the timeline) and that is a huge reason why this so magical to me. It works because this is not just two trans humans meeting in a bar. It's two occult beings who are choosing to present as trans humans. It is a desire born out of their own free will, reclaiming their bodies and personhood from Heaven and Hell. For Ash, it is a comfort in herself and body that she has never known before. But it's also a desire to question, to be transgressive, to form her own path. For Angel, it's that too but also freedom. This form allows him to shed the discomforts of the strict conformity of Heaven. They both could have manifested completely different bodies, entirely new faces, but they stay in the ones they were given and make the changes that make them feel at home.
There's a lot of canon settings use a variety of "efforts", but that doesn't necessarily make them trans narratives. Both types of stories are great! But this story is clear, this is a story about what being trans means to two immortal celestial beings. What I also love about this story and find unique is that this isn't the first time these two have tried to make something physical work. It's a really awesome plot detail that opens a whole new door to me!
And of course as always, it's incredibly hot and sexy and you will be left with thoughts of these two long after you finish this story. Or at least I will be. I love these two. I think this is a refreshing take, something that surprised me, and kind of pushed me into seeing these two in new ways. The bar is always being raised, and there is always something new to explore with these characters. There is so much meaning and understanding of our own selves and our communities that we can find in them, and I think this story is a perfect example of that.

*Minor Spoilers* I am once again asking you to read an American AU. I'm sorry for being an American, but it can work for me!! Especially southern/Appalachian settings. In this story Aziraphale, a repressed and inexperienced trans man searching for a new beginning, has moved to the middle of nowhere of Tennessee. He has incredibly fond memories of the place, and of the red headed boy he met there one summer. I love the romance of it all, the serendipity, and the red tie that binds them. I will never tire of a romantic story like this. A story of two queer men reconnecting and finding love and hope in an environment that is not usually welcome to them will always get me.
There's just an earnestness and kindness to this story that I really enjoyed. Plus, this authors art of Aziraphale is hot daddy and I'm in love with him. There are sex scenes towards the end of the story but you should be fine in public with most of it. I don't want to spoil it but towards the end, Crowley's gift to Aziraphale was the sweetest and most thoughtful thing ever and I can't get over that moment. It's something that on the surface might not seem important, but it is. There is a knowing, and acceptance, and love in that gift. So you're just going to have to read it and find out what I'm talking about!

Good Omens Fic Rec: Exalt
“Ooh, aren’t you brilliant,” that voice rumbles with the tonality of jest and slitted eyes that gleam gold. *Minor Spoilers* Screaming, crying, throwing up, the works. You know that feeling when you read a line in a fanfic that just makes you feral and you have to stop and reread it over and over to get the full effect? This fic is FULL of those moments! This is so insanely well written and decadent. I loved this fic.
This a really poetic and prose heavy work so I definitely recommend this for a time where you can fully focus on it. It's incredibly rich and atmospheric. I can feel the salty storm outside, and smell the soil of Crowley's garden. It's also incredibly clever and insightful. It has a lot of really interesting things to say about their characters. I could copy at least 10 lines of this story in here that brought me to my knees, but I’ll let you discover them for yourself. I cant get over how beautiful this was. The ending line is still repeating over and over in my head. It's simple, but gets me right to my core. Just truly an excellent story.

*Minor Spoilers* I'm super totally normal about this one. I've been on an ineffable wives obsession this week and that was largely due to this fic. This is everything I want in a wives story! It's fun, engaging, creative, and a total win for lesbians.
Azalea and Crowley are derby girls on rival teams. I love the derby use here because, well it's hot, but also it's a fun sport that I can totally understand these two enjoying. Crowley is obvious to understand, it's physical and aggressive, outside the norm, and again hot. But the hard work here was to make Azalea fit in this space. The author does this by giving us a character that has already done some of the work of leaving her repressive past behind. She's uniquely herself, has a strong moral code, still hates customers and selling books, and has a sense of fashion and style that doesn't give a damn what other people think. She's still our sexy bookseller, but with tattoos and skates! Ugh tattooed omens is like catnip to me!
But the setting also works because it's well crafted! If you didn't have an obsession with the Elliot Page movie Whip It like I did, and don't know anything about roller derby, there's no worry here. You'll be able to follow right along. And the side characters fit into this word great! Ana was a surprise use, and one that I enjoyed! I feel like we usually see a Gabriel type character in the role that Ana fills here, so I loved the shake up. Plus, CAT. It's an instant win for me when there's a cat.
And did I mention it's hot?? The sex scenes in here are a little shorter, but excellent, and something to keep thinking about afterwards for sure. It's mostly safe in public overall, but for me I devoured it in one sitting at home. It's set up well for something to read in smaller bits but I cannot resist a good binge read. It's also clearly setting up for a sequel and honey, I'm seated. I'm subscribed and ready to go the moment more of this series drops. Already after my first draft of this post we got one! So I will end with a reminder to always subscribe to your favorite authors, because if I hadn't been I may have missed another entry to this universe and I'm an addict to these girls.

A note about fic comments. I am speaking as someone who made a lot of bad choices my first go around with engaging with fanfic reviewing. Years ago, I co-ran a blog that posted fic reviews which were often harsh/critical and graded. Please trust me when I say voicing your negativity or criticism about a fic is just unhelpful and cruel.
If you don’t have anything nice to say, literally just text your friends about it. Authors don’t need to know if you thought something was “out of character” or when you don’t like something. And this includes comments like, “why didn’t they just do xyz” or “I don’t like this trope”. It wasn’t written for you.
That doesn’t mean you can’t have opinions or thoughts on it, you can roll your eyes all you’d like, but keep it out of the comments. It’s not the place for that. And be mindful of backhanded compliments and tone. Something you don’t mean negatively can sometimes come off that way without context. I’m not saying to walk on eggshells, just be mindful of how your words might be received! No one is ever going to be done making mistakes, but try to be aware of what you say/how you say it and admit to your mistakes when you notice them.
When I used to say negative things like that about parts of fics I didn’t like, it felt like criticizing any other media or even me being arrogant about my “taste”. It was all bullshit, and didn’t do anything but hurt authors feelings. Authors who were just other people trying to have fun and participate in their fandom. I wasn’t being a good reviewer, I was just being an asshole.
Let’s try to make a nicer community for all of us. The more positive energy we ourselves put out, the more it will inspire others to be positive as well! Commenting on fics is a great way we all can support and grow our fandom/fic authors. Let’s just make sure everyone gets to feel good about receiving feedback.
#i continue to make my own mistakes#doing fic recs/reviews can be a weird line to walk between being honest about my feelings and when it’s actually helpful to voice them#just be fucking nice#I don’t think all criticism is always bad but time and place matters#in an offsite review it can be done but it’s tricky#the authors comments is definitely NOT the place tho#just be nice!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Omens Fic Rec: Choose Your Faces Wisely

*Minor Spoilers* If you are a fan of His Dark Materials, stop what you are doing, you need to read this fic immediately. I'm obsessed with this story and the world it paints in 5k words is astonishing.
You don't need to be familiar with His Dark Materials to love this story, it's not set in that world anyway. It's the Good Omens universe as we understand it, but with Dæmons. This fic calls them daimons. All you need to understand about them, if you're unaware, is that every human in this world is born with a daimon, which is a physical manifestation of their soul that takes the form of an animal. The daimon of a child will change forms as they grow, and once they hit adulthood their daimon will settle into it's true form. But what happens to supernatural entities that weren't born with their own daimon? In this story, they create their own, and unintentionally become more human and vulnerable than they could have ever thought possible.
This is a gorgeous piece of writing. The way it weaves religious and philosophical references is impressive in it's limited word count. It's such an intelligent work and uses every word with care and importance. It's incredibly intimate, and the daimons are not just a gimmick. This isn't an AU that using them as an excuse to say, 'oh they have daimons isn't that neat', it's using them as a tool to say incredible things about these characters and the nature of their souls. The souls and personhood that they chose to have. I am passionate about this one, and I hope that you take the time to check it out too!

Good Omens Fic Rec: It Was Always You
A chance encounter during one of the worst times of Ezra Fell’s life reunites him with his once best friend and the one who got away. Though, that would imply he ever had him in the first place. Anthony Crowley and his son, Warlock, relocate to the quieter city of Tadfield from that of London. In the process, manages to find again that one person who always made him feel less alone, the one person he was pretty sure he was never going to speak to again. But the road to true love never did run smooth (something that’s been true from their very beginning). Despite the easy way they fall back into each other, their lives don't seem to follow suit, and if it's not one challenge its another. But despite everything they find themselves facing down, the ten years without each other taught them one thing: they’re better together than they are apart.

*Minor Spoilers* Strap in, because this is going to be a long rec post. This story hit pretty much all my personal buttons on the parent AU side, so I knew it would end up being a favorite of mine. But then, to combine it with such a rich and wonderful story of how Crowley and Ezra grew up together as best friends? It felt tailor-made for me.
Let's start with the present. Crowley is the father of five-year-old Warlock, owns a very successful flower shop, and has moved to Tadfield to be closer to that branch of the business. Ezra has just lost his sister Eliza and is now the guardian to his nephew Adam. Both men are content with their lives, but the memory of their fallout plagues them both. In the past, we follow their entire history—from their first meeting, to new boyfriends, supporting each other through hard times, and the unbearable pain of their unspoken mutual pining.
I loved everything about this story. As parents, they're both amazing. They love being dads, they never see their sons as a burden, and I'm so thankful that this story doesn't cause any unnecessary angst for them in this aspect. Their family is built on love, safety, and trust. I adored the boys, their new routines, and their entire extended family of side characters.
I was fascinated by their past relationships. Every person each of them dated was such a complex and interesting side character. I appreciated how even when a partner is flawed, they're not portrayed as evil—especially Gabriel. Yes, he's an asshole, and he can't take no for an answer, but he's not evil. He does nothing to purposely sabotage Ezra's happiness, which was something I was honestly expecting a bit. The character of Oscar here was a particular standout for me. I also loved how the red string of fate kept connecting them in ways I don't think they'll ever realize. Which is lovely, but also a little silly in that it almost feels like there's only like 8 queer men in all of Britain. But each relationship taught them more about life and themselves, and yes, maybe it would have been easier for them if they confessed their love earlier in their lives. However, that wasn't meant to be; they came together at exactly the right point in their lives. They were meant to have this wonderful family together.
And watching them grow up together? I was glued to every moment. Their family lives were unique and complex. Completely original to this story, which sometimes can feel too removed from canon. But it didn't feel that way to me ever. Or if it ever did, it wasn't a negative. I don't believe this is the kind of story you could scrub out the Good Omens and repackage it as any other couple. Even though technically it should be easy to do with this set up. There isn't that much Good Omens canon in it, but still, this just feels like Crowley and Aziraphale despite how much of an AU it is.
Ok, I gotta stop before this becomes even longer, there are SO MANY plot points I could talk about. But seriously, if you love parent stories or stories of them being friends as kids, this is a must-read. It's satisfyingly long, but also so effortless that you will spend hours in this world, and it'll feel like seconds. The writing is excellent, so detailed that you'll feel like you're actually there, but never gets bogged down in itself. This is now a forever favorite of mine!

“I’m sorry, I-I wasn’t sure w-when to say something!” Aziraphale cried out, stuttering and pulling back from Crowley’s arms, pressing himself to the wall behind him as though pinned. Crowley’s heart broke at the sight, at the hurt and fear in the angel’s eyes. “Hey, Angel, it’s okay. You didn’t do anything wrong. I’m sorry I pulled back like that, I was just a bit confused since… but it’s okay if it doesn’t happen all the time for you.” “No, no, that’s not it!” Aziraphale cried out, crossing his hands slightly in front of his body to cover his crotch. “This is perfect, but I’m not… I don’t have…” Aziraphale blushed brightly, avoiding Crowley’s gaze, and suddenly Crowley understood. “Oh, angel, are you trans?” Aziraphale sniffed and nodded.

*Minor Spoilers* This is a very soft and gentle short story of a human trans Aziraphale hooking up with Crowley, and the ineffable way that they instantly connect and support each other. They are so sweet in this one, and I feel so much love for the both of them and how they're able to be vulnerable with each other. One of my favorite aspects of this story is how they talk about boundaries and consent. It's so important and brave to tell a partner how you want to be loved and touched during sex. Setting those boundaries, and having them not only be met, but expectations exceeded is the ultimate fantasy and I have to admit to getting a little wobbly over this one. It's very precious and dear, while also being deliciously erotic. A short read, but one to make the time for!

*Minor Spoilers* Ahh the infamous serial killer tale! I won't label this as crack, but I will say it's silly and fun as hell! DI Crowley is positive that Aziraphale is a serial killer, it's just that unfortunately, DI Crowley also thinks that Aziraphale is charming, sexy, and irresistible-damn it.
I had actual, out loud laughter while reading this one. It's the silly version of Hannibal just with less...eating people. Or the more sexually charged version of Holmes and Moriarty. It'll keep you on your toes, playing with you and making you wonder what the truth really is. This is so much fun, especially if you're someone who enjoys dark humor. Perfect for a casual read if you're out and about or a little mood booster read!
