8 Essential Moral Lessons from the Ramayana
The best sources from which we can make others learn are our ancient epics—the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Here we can find many character analyses and examples that help children learn easily.
People often hesitate when it comes to teaching moral lessons to children. It is not so easy to teach them about morality and moral laws. They come up with a lot of questions, and to answer them you need examples. As it is very popularly said, we should teach others by precept and example. We must create clear perspectives or mental concepts. We also need to define examples well to help others…

@angels-bullshit well you asked for it TELEMACHUS RAMBLE
I’m sure there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that Telemachus represents open arms. For one, he immediately accepts Athena as his friend with open arms and offers the goddess of wisdom some wisdom in We’ll be fine, that’s just. Peak open arms behavior.
Besides the obvious, we can look into the motif (literary, not musical) of light vs dark in the musical (which might also be obvious but anyway). Even if we ignore Polites’ whole cut song “Your Light” about being Odysseus’ “light”, the light motif is actually kept in Open Arms — “we can light up the world here’s how to start”. I think this motif symbolizes the positive impact of open arms. Much like Circe said, “maybe showing one act of kindness leads to kinder souls down the road”. If you inspire the world around you by being kind, you will in turn be treated with kindness. This is contrasted by the motifs of darkness in “I am your darkest moment” and “the world is dark” signifying ruthlessness. Instead of trying to change the ruthless world around you, you must become ruthless too to survive. There’s inherent selfishness to ruthlessness since you’re ensuring your own survival over others.
WHAT A TANGENT OK HOW DOES THIS RELATE TO TELEMACHUS? He has this line in Legendary “so I could bring the world some light” which references Polites’ whole “light up the world”. Let’s not forget “tell me Athena why you came to my aid” has the same melody as “what keeps you up so late at night my friend” from cut song Ismarus where Polites is asking Odysseus this. (HM I WONDER WHAT OTHER CHARACTER IS UNABLE TO SLEEP DUE TO GUILT)
The light thing comes back so many times in we’ll be fine. “Then his light went dark” (can be interpreted as Polites, his “light”, dying, but I prefer to interpret it as him basically getting traumatized, losing his original enthusiasm in his belief that everything would go smoothly and he’d be able to get home with all 600 men as he suffers his very first casualties) “life could be that bright” — Not only is Athena talking about Odysseus losing his light, she herself has also lost hers as she lost her one and only friend and the positive impact he had on her life, and now it feels as though her life has gone dark.
“I know it’s light you’ll find” — Telemachus is literally acting as Athena’s light here as Polites was Odysseus’ 😭😭 he encourages her to help Odysseus, to embrace the Open Arms ideology of making a positive impact on the world around you and you’ll end up positively affected as well. In bringing Odysseus light, perhaps she herself will also regain hers. From all this, Telemachus clearly represents Open Arms and is to Athena what Polites was to Odysseus.
Now how does Telemachus embody ruthlessness? This part is much shorter since we don’t have as much to analyze (perhaps we’ll get more in Ithaca saga) but Telemachus doesn’t shy away from being ruthless when the need arises either. He fights Antinuous in Little Wolf to defend his family’s honor, and in Ithaca saga he will also help kill the suitors (perhaps we will get more on his mindset here, but don’t take my word on that). He is willing to do what it takes, even if it’s cruel like hunting down all the suitors, to protect his family, and killing the suitors IS what’s necessary and an act of ruthlessness.
(Though actually this is making me realize “boy I wish I could so I could bring the world some light” was referring to… killing monsters. Maybe this shows that even in Legendary he’s wanted to make a positive impact on the world by being ruthless in a way, further showing that he’s the true balance of Ruthlessness and Open Arms)
Anyway, Telemachus was really only able to achieve this balance because of his circumstances, just as Odysseus was forced to fully embrace ruthlessness because of his. While Telemachus has faced hardships (the suitors) that requires ruthlessness to be dealt with, hes also a crowned, sheltered prince, largely unaffected by even darker aspects of the world like war and death as Odysseus has been, so Telemachus was able to retain part of his innocence and his “light” while Odysseus’ was stripped from him. Both of them were products of their environments, and it’s quite fitting how Odysseus went to war to protect his son, and his son ended up being a “better” person than Odysseus was forced to become. Telemachus means “far from battle”, and indeed Odysseus has succeeded in keeping his son far from the darkness of war and its aftermath.
#This is why I don’t think Odysseus’ arc in Epic is to achieve the balance btw#it’s tragic that he was forced into such inhumane lengths but he would’ve died if he hadn’t done such things#The moral dilemma here is the point of the story#Telemachus is who Odysseus could’ve been in a better world#xria rambles#epic the musical#jorge rivera herrans#epic the wisdom saga#epic odysseus#epic athena#epic telemachus#epic the vengeance saga#character analysis#writing

EPIC is such a great interpretation of the Odyssey, remaining faithful to the original while also expanding upon the characters and adapting some stuff for better story beats
….that is to say if I see one more person bashing Calypso I’m going to lovingly hit them with a bat :3
#She isn’t the same as Odyssey!Calypso- give her some chance before forming a hate mob#‘she keeps coming on to him though!’ girl went without human interaction/contact for several years since childhood#I understand her being a BIT clingy#also- welcome to morally grey characters the musical#epic the musical#epic the wisdom saga#the wisdom saga#calypso

Not Zara's notes spelling out that easy categorization of demons is plain wrong — alongside a ton of other characters. "Pride is both self-esteem and mad hubris, darling. And those are the easy variations. A single word will not suffice."
#🌞#🎮#solasposting#I don't like the 'Solas is just Wisdom wanting to come home!' take as much as I don't like the 'Solas is ONLY Pride and NOTHING but Pride'#Like. I think you're both wrong.#I think this is a string theory kinda thing. Multiple dimensions but also one. He is both. At the same time.#He did not lose access to Wisdom by tilting towards Pride he literally needs guidance.#Also Emmrich tells us most spirits need moral guidance anyways.

I don't get the Kenneth HYPE and I will no longer remain silent(as if I know how to shut up). He isn't some lone champion of (demi)human rights or something. He is just another Golden Order noble, and whether fandom at large can stand to admit it or not, the GO isn't persecuting the demi-humans. In fact, demi-humans have grace, and it is Raya Lucaria Academy who derides them as "lesser":
Demi-Human Queen's Staff Glintstone staff styled as a scepter. A gift once given to the demi-humans to foster peace, it can be wielded even by those of low intelligence. Sneered at by fools in the academy.
I'm not sure why Ken Haight's position on demi-humans is so often taken as some implication that he alone is some kind of 'progressive' force within an Order that persecutes so many other living things. Clearly the GO is persecuting loads of 'others' - Misbegotten, Omen, TWLID, they stomped out the Giants completely, they don't accept Albinaurics, and let's not even go into the Hornsent. Nowhere does Ken Haight decry any of this, and nowhere does any other member of the GO hate or reject demi-humans. Ken Haight even specifically says "Under the Erdtree, commingling with the demi-humans is made possible." Not "in my castle", not "if I ruled Limgrave", it's just a simple fact of the Golden Order's society. So where's this idea come from that Ken Haight is especially accepting and the rest of the Order is persecuting them? Beyond this, Ken Haight carries the same prejudices as many other non-Tarnished, briefly hesitating before accepting our help in spite of his apparently desperate predicament. He isn't someone without bias, either, even pulling an ole "you might even be one of the good ones :)" when he says "And who knows, perhaps some time down the line, the grace of gold will return to those Tarnished eyes of yours." Then there's his own hypocrisy where he derides Godrick as a coward for not wanting to be killed by Malenia while he can't even face up to a single knight in his own fortress.
I'm not here to say Ken Haight is worse or better or whatever else. Mostly I'm just wondering why so many people think he is this positive force for change rather than accepting the far simpler fact that he's a GO noble that believes in the GO's tenets, no more, no less. While there are different eras of the Order, and different schools of incantations within it, his faith to the Erdtree is still a faith in the Order that created it, and that Order has been a bloody genocide-machine from the start. If we're condemning the Order, why are we handing him a get-out-jail-free card just because he accepts the demi-humans, something that ALL of the Golden Order appears to do?
#im not super preoccupied with any characters' 'morals' or whatever so please dont mistake this as a discussion about that#its once again about FANDOM'S interpretation and what becomes the default conventional wisdom about the characters#and how we're supposed to do this weird mental gymnastics to say x is so cool but then in the same breath condemn y for being the same way#it makes 0 sense lol#wraith meta

also like. it’s literally okay for some people not to be creative. do you know how many trillions of people there are and ever were and ever will be? ‘i don’t Create Art or do things with my hands’ is like. it’s okay to be that way. “but everyone should at least fingerpaint or write bad poetry!!!!” i mean. no? everyone is free to do as many hobbies and pastimes as they want as well or as badly but that also means that people can just. not have creative hobbies. people can live fulfilling and healthy and happy lives without ever once painting past the age of 7, writing a short story once and never again, getting so irritated with trying to learn a yarn craft that they get flashbacks going past a joann. and i think it’s very weird that so many people on this webbed site think that they are qualified to give out firm and fast Prerequisites For Being A Real Fully Alive Human Being
#like there are more human modes than ‘indentured servitude to capitalism’ and ‘creative artist commune hippie’#the false dichotomies………..the false dichotomies!!!!!#human nature is like ‘i will adhere to whatever binary i find morally acceptable and if I can’t find one then I will make one up’#‘and then act really smug and knowledgeable and get So Concerned for people who just don’t understand the wisdom of my dichotomy’#aster chat

Coming out of my cave to comment on this month’s Problematic Ship ™. The finale of the Umbrella Academy itself was SO disappointing but I didn’t 100% hate the whole Lila and Five thing. I hated the way that Five’s relationship with Diego was totally annihilated and his bond with the other siblings sidelined in favor of the love triangle subplot (that had no real conclusion or payoff anyway), BUT I don’t agree with a lot of folks saying that Five/Lila would never do that. A major point of the whole “lost in time” concept is that those kinds of circumstances would change anyone. That’s what makes it so intriguing! Perhaps that doesn’t come through so well with so few episodes, but Five at his core is a tired old man that has been lost in time and space twice and is desperate for connection (see Delores). Lila, in addition to being stuck for seven years, already felt trapped in her marriage and Five was representative of a life that she wished to return to. It’s not a huge leap for them to be drawn to each other.
Basically, it wasn’t them getting together that I didn’t like, but everything that came after.
#super unpopular opinion I’m guessing#also sometimes things are just kind of weird!#not morally concerning but just weird#this is my greatest wisdom#the umbrella academy#number five#lila pitts#five x lila#tua#tua spoilers

Miscellaneous Sketches: Sorry if theses are still a bit messy I was rushing whilst taking a picture of some of the sketches I’ve made in July. And I forgot to erase the smudges on the side.
Image Descriptions:
First image is of is a front view from a head to shoulders style shot or Baizhu. With a slight tilt upward where he’s looking down at viewer and a gentle smile.
Second image is of Herlock Sholmes from head to waist. He is turned in a side profile to the left with his face in a 3/4 angle to the viewer. He has his right arm in a pointing up pose and his expression is a wink from his right eye whilst smiling at viewer.
Third image is of the new Zelda in Echoes of Wisdom. Where she’s carefully walking to our left with her head facing over her shoulder to the right. It’s another 3/4 angle. Where she’s clutching the tri-rod up with both hands and her little friend tri to our right. Her cape and hair are flowing to the right and she has a slightly guarded expression on her face. Full image of her walking. Fourth image is of Princess Zelda based on The Four Swords manga version of her. She is looking slightly down to our right with her hands clasped together to the front. Her eyes are tilted slightly down and she has a calm expression to her face. It’s a 3/4 angle and shot.
Fifth image is of my Oc Dante looking to our right with a slightly miffed/agitated look. His eyes and nose are a bit scrunched and he has a little pout on his lip. He has his head looking over his shoulder with his shoulders face to our left. 3/4 angle from head to shoulders.
Sixth image is of Vio also based on the Four Swords manga version. He is looking to the viewer with a guarded expression facing to the left. Head to shoulders 3/4 angled shot. He has his long hat flowing to the right.
Seventh image is of Professor Layton and Descole based on the famous Lagos and Kabru meme that I hope to redraw in digital after I finish the Herlock Sholmes piece that I’m working on at the moment. The first part of the image has Layton on the right facing the left with a neutral expression. It’s a side profile shot. Descole is on the left facing left but his eyes looking back to Layton. The way that he’s drawn is in a goofy funny sort of exaggerated style and big eyes with three big long eyelashes. The second half of the picture is of Descole in a normal style looking up with tears streaming down his face and eyes closed. To what Layton is supposed to say in the joke (along the lines of “I’m not going to call you a good brother. What you put me through was terrible!” He’s still facing to the left.
Eighth and final image is of Miles Morales Spider-man practice. Looking forward to our right in a 3/4 angle. With a gentle neutral expression and is shot from head to shoulders.
End image description.
Extra fun notes:
The Herlock drawing gave me a bit of trouble this was my third attempt in the month and my fourth attempt ever. I’m still not really satisfied with how it came out but I’m hoping I can fix it in digital.
I’m really excited about the new Zelda game Echoes of Wisdom. So much so that I remember drawing this the same day the first trailer came out. I was really happy with how it turned out. And I’m hoping to get to drawing it in digital hopefully before the game comes out in September. Funnily enough as I was writing the image descriptions the second trailer came out. ☺️
I drew the two four swords characters (Zelda and Vio) after reading through the manga again. Which the last time I did was back in 2013. It was really fun and really brought back memories. So I had to draw something for it. Maybe in the future I’ll hopefully find the time to sketch the rest of the cast.
For the Laios meme of Descole and Professor Layton. As I mentioned I’m hoping to fix it up in digital after the Herlock piece and if I can do another version of this joke with Descole at Bronev at the encouragement from my sibling.
End of Post.
