James stands with his bag on his shoulder, Sirius has his on the ground at his feet.

“I’ll miss you, Pads.” James tells him solemnly.

“Yeah, I’ll miss you, too.” Sirius looks up from where he was staring at the ground.

“They do know we’re just driving in separate cars, right?” Regulus asks Remus as they’re leaning against one of the cars.

“I’ve seen them do this when one of them has to go to the bathroom.” Remus tells him dryly and Regulus rolls his eyes pushing himself off the car.

“Alright, idiots, let’s go or we’re going to be late.” Regulus yells and gets in the passenger seat of James’ car.

A moment later James gets in the driver’s side and Regulus just stares at him.

“What?” James asks.

“Should I be worried?” Regulus jokingly asks and James rolls his eyes.

“That? That’s all for show. You–” James leans over and kisses Regulus. “–have my whole heart.” James tells him.

“I’m going to tell him you said that.” Regulus says as he turns to grab his seatbelt. When he turns back, James is staring at him with actual fear in his eyes.

Regulus rolls his eyes and shakes his head as he leans in to kiss James. James starts the car and they follow Sirius and Remus, but James sends Regulus nervous glances the entire drive.

Moonwater where both Regulus and Remus are trans masc, and Sirius swallows his hurt once he and Remus start dating and reaches out to his brother.

Remus thinks he's alone at Hogwarts, but a slightly reluctant Regulus stands awkwardly in front of his table in the library one day and just sits.

At first, they just read at the same table. Remus studies and reads muggle literature. Regulus also studies but looks curiously at the titles.

Eventually Sirius tags along and after that, everything becomes clear.

"So, have you two become... I dunno, mates yet?"

Remus quirks his brow, "What are you getting at pads?"

Regulus looks up from his textbook, "I wasn't just going to blurt it out to him, Sirius." He rolls his eyes and looks back down to the page, "that's not how true friendship works."

"Blurt what out?" Remus says, confused.

Regulus sighs, "We're both trans men, Remus."

Realization washes over Remus and he looks over to his boyfriend, then to his friend.

"But you two-" He pauses, "-you hate each other."

"And now we have you in common." Regulus shrugs, like it's the easiest thing in the world.

Sirius grins, "I'd do anything for you, moons."

Can we talk about how James and Sirius’ friendship killed Regulus and Remus just a little?? They were dependent on them despite wanting anything other than to be, needed them for comfort and warmth they couldn’t get anywhere else but James and Sirius always had each other. They would always pick each other and it would kill Reg and Remus to always know they didn’t need to be loved by them the same way. Sirius could always sneak into James’ bed when he was fighting with Remus or go to his house or play quidditch and Remus knew Sirius loved him but he would never be James. Sirius worrying no one would ever choose him over his brother and James would comfort him every single time. Regulus seething watching them because Sirius got both and as much as he loved his friends they weren’t him. It wouldn’t matter that James and Sirius would trail behind their boyfriends and do cute things for them because at the end of the day they could see each other and they were reminded their soulmate was tied to someone else too.

(SNEAK PEEK AT UNRELEASED CHAPTER)

James and Peter confronted him about his behavior less than 48 hours after it started. Sirius kept himself locked in his room in a very un-Sirius-like way, so he hadn’t been that subtle about it.

Peter eventually picked his door lock, and the two they flooded his room. Sirius rolled away from them.

“So,” he began, re-bending the wire hanger he’d used to unlock the door. “are you going to tell us what’s wrong or are we playing good cop, bad cop?”

“I call bad cop,” James started without waiting for a reply. “Sirius Black, I will burn all your band t-shirts in a dumpster fire if you don’t tell us what’s wrong.”

“I would’ve gone with his leather jacket, but alright.” Peter grumbled.

“If I said that, he’ll try strangling me!” James hissed. “Remember when I joked about turning it into a handbag? I couldn’t wear a tie for weeks!”

“Well you’re the one who wanted to be bad cop! Be bad!”

“Why don’t you do it if you’re so—oh, for fuck’s sake. Padfoot, talk to us!” James flung himself onto the bed, jostling Sirius from his resolute position away from them. “We haven’t had a morning so peaceful since you got your tonsils removed and it’s freaking us out!”

“Has someone died?” Peter asked bluntly. James immediately gasped in horror.

“Oh god, Pads, that’s terrible! Is that what happened? Don’t tell me it was Alphard—“

“No one’s dead.” Sirius snapped, stopping James from going full mother-hen mode over something that wasn’t true.

“Speaking of death, you smell like it, Padfoot.” Peter told him. “When was the last time you had a shower—are those your pants? What the hell happened to them?”

Evidently, they had discovered the ruined clothes from Sirius’ fit of rage via paint the other day.

“Did you slip and fall into Jackson Pollock? Sirius, there’s paint in your hair!”

Sirius just grunted. His friends knew how sacred his hair was. The fact that he’d mar with paint without freaking out was unheard of. He didn’t bother when James reached over and started picking it out.

“Pads c’mon,” he said quietly. “it’s us. You can tell us anything.”

Can I tell you I’m a monster? Can I tell you Remus ran from me? Can I tell you I’m heartbroken over a boy I don’t know?

“Look, I’m off today and James doesn’t have rehearsal ’til late. You can either tell us what’s up and James’ll do your nails and we can watch romcoms and order whatever takeout you want— or I can get my recorder and James will get his kazoo, and we’ll make your life hell.”

The last time either of them had such instruments, Sirius threw them out of the thirtieth story window to relieve the migraine they gave him. He didn’t need his head hurting more than it already did. And his nails did need repainting after his rage fit.

Begrudgingly he rolled over and looked at them.

“I saw Remus Lupin two days ago.”

like imagine, them talking about books for hours and hours, roasting each other, the GOSSIPING, roasting other people together, the snide remarks, the inside jokes to which they are smirking looking at each other mid conversations and the others are like " *-*?? ", them rolling their eyes simultaneously and...

i feel like regulus and peter would be really good friends. obviously like. only in a modern au or an au where everything is Fine and peter Doesn’t do Anything Bad Ever. but regardless. they are both MESSY. peter and regulus are both quiet (although in different ways) so people tell them their drama all the time so i just KNOW that they would have the biggest dirt imaginable. most of their conversations would 100% be talking shit. they both love watching chaos unfold

but also beyond that i feel like regulus would be able to relate to a lot of peter’s feelings of being like. an outcast. or overlooked. and they’d just share a lot of interests and click really unexpectedly easy. and regulus wld be really gentle with him in the way he only ever is outwardly with pandora and they’d just be cute!! i wanna see ppl playing around w their potential friendship more!! (again in the universe where nobody dies and peter doesn’t do anything bad ever)
