jason grace was a fucking disaster. the quest was thrown off track when you had been taken by some stupid monster. you had an attempt to hurt it by instead it took you in its hands, incinerating you almost instantly, the only thing left was gold ashes. where you went was a mystery to everyone on the argo ii except for the son of jupiter. he knew exactly where you were

he didn’t quite know why, however. he just knew. It was weird, when any of his others friends were apart for him, it was unknown where they could be. whenever you weren’t in the very blurry vision of jason grace he knew where exactly you were. even if it was just at night, if you were laying in bed he would know, if you walked past him he knew where you were going and it worried him

why were you so special? he loved you, yes- admittedly more than anyone else on the ship but you weren’t even dating. but of course you were special to him, jason held you so dear in his heart and if something bad were to happen to you he might have to be institutionalized or he’d never survive

did he only feel your parting because he was in love with you? because he sure as hell wasn’t in love with anyone else, you were the only thing occupying his mind. it might’ve been annoying to others but oh gods he loved you and nothing could ever make him hate the thought of you

jason grace couldn’t sleep. since you were taken, not even a minute of rest came to him. he spent his nights and days planning how to rescue you. even when his eyelids shut the vision of you tied up in gods know where was mortifying, enough to keep him going until you were safe in his arms once again

he spoke to his friends about the reoccurring visions of you in despair, they- of course- helped him find you. two weeks after your kidnapping the argo ii arrived at your keeping. it was a dark cave, most definitely monster-infested but he would rather risk his life than let you die. jason assured his occupants that he could handle finding you himself, percy begged to help but jason declined and entered the stygian cave

It was dark. It was very dark. jason had no clue where he was going but nonetheless he kept going, eager to see you again. he reached a two way path- right or left, right or left…

he went right. as stupid as it sounds jason picked right because it was your favorite direction (you had told him this one night when he couldn’t sleep, it was the middle of the night and it amazed you that he remembered it). the ground was wet. he knew this was a good sign because in his visions he had seen water behind you. just as he thought he was getting close something stops him

jason looks up from the ground. a very ugly cyclops stands before him. oh he nearly screams but the content face of the monster is highly disturbing enough to stop any sound coming from his mouth

“wedding guest” says the cyclops

jason contemplates answering because seriously- what kind of statement is that? he pulls out his sword incase what he’s about to say is not cyclops appropriate

“who’s wedding?”

the cyclops proudly puffs out his chest. “y/n and me”

oh no

“where is she?”

“are you a wedding guest?”

“I’m here to object”

“you will not”

jason is thankful for the darkness of the cave. he positions his sword towards the cyclops. “who says?”

“I do”

“yeah?”

the cyclops nods. three… two… one… jason slides his sword into the monsters abdomen. the cyclops does not like this, attempting to rip it out but jason makes sure that it will not, sliding it in further until it reaches the opposite side. the monster makes noises in pain and occasional curses, his hands stay tightly around whatever part of the weapon he could reach

he left the cyclops there and rushed away. yes, maybe he should’ve waited until it was dead but honestly when he was this close to finding you nothing else really mattered. nothing else ever mattered when you were in his presence

jason wasn’t entirely sure how he knew which way to go but before he knew it he reached your temporary jail. something happened when your eyes met. as cliché as it sounds electricity ran through your body. jason ran to you as fast as possible, struggling to untie the ropes tears escaped his eyes

“jason” you muster out. and who knew a simple word could enlighten such a reaction but he stopped everything and looked up at you. the position admitted a little sexual since he was kneeling before you, he stood up quickly with a reddened face

“I’m sorry, I- didn’t, oh gods”

“jason, please. there’s a dagger in my back pocket”

with both of you hysterically crying wasn’t helping the situation. he hurried- yet remained respectful slid the dagger out from your back pocket, using it to first untie your hands, the kneeling once again (with your permission, he wasn’t sure if this was comfortable for you) to untie your ankles. he throws the dagger to the side and you throw yourself into his arms, he crumbled at the sensation, taking in your scent

“I missed you, gods, I thought I’d never leave” you cry into jason’s shoulder

he strokes his fingers through your hair to calm you, although he wasn’t very calm himself. “It’s okay, I’m here”

your grip on his shirt so tight you’re sure your fingers would’ve been turning white. “I don’t want to leave you again”

“I won’t let you”

“do you promise?”

“I swear it”

tower of archeos 🔗 is a suuuper old pico8 cart but its a very solid little panel de pon / roguelike sort of mashup, & i always find myself going back to it now & then over the years. recently i've been on one such kick & actually managed to beat nightmare mode! so here's a (non-reffed so somewhat inaccurate) little collection of monsters & treasures to celebrate 👍

Meet the Boo Crew, who are also led by Poppy and Rose. They are later formed at chapter 3 when more monsters volunteer to join Poppy and Rose in order to take out loyal gileadeans and feast on them so that the rebels can infiltrate in secret while trying to find out about the identity of the monster hunter. Only six of them joined in by choice, one of them became a member of the Boo Crew out of love towards the vampire princess.

Billy Reverb is a vampire whose clan is a subordinate of the Nevermore Clan. When he and Rose first met, they zinged (love at first sight for monsters), even if they don't know it at first. As the story progresses, they are drawn to each other and want to know more about the other. Since he’s a hard rocker, his outfit is inspired from Lestat de Lioncourt from Interview With A Vampire and the leather jacket is inspired from The Lost Boys movie. He has the similar abilities and powers of a typical strigoi but his unique vampire ability is pyrokinesis, which is similar to Nandor the Relentless from the sitcom, What We Do In The Shadows. His relationship with Rose is similar to Gomez and Morticia Addams.

After running away as a child after destroying her family home with her uncontrollable powers, Cybil considers a coven of wise, motherly witches as her family. They explained to her that her real family descended from witches, wizards, and outcasts combined and she is finally at home with them. Not only she was free from the oppressive regime, she is also happy to be with those around her who accepts her for who she is. The elders taught her how to control her magic powers and her new friends, who turn out to be Rose, Poppy, and the Snack Pack are able to help her become the witch that she is is meant to be. Upon becoming a fully-fledged witch, she later joined the Boo Crew because she wanted to spy on the enemies with crystal balls, make potions and elixirs for them to use, and casting spells.

Holly Darlin’ is a Minotaur who ecstatically joined the Boo Crew and the muscle of the team like Smidge, whom she forms a friendship with. Being the strongest member, she is able to lift heavy things with no problem, and her head-butt cause pillars to come crashing down. A yeti could match her strength that she and Guy Diamond would have friendly arm wrestling matches.

Rave-loving gillman, Synth was chosen by one of his friends, Trollex to join the Boo Crew and he lives in an abandoned mansion near Nevermore castle. He is a skilled dancer, DJ, musician, and he uses rave lexicon. Like his species, he has amphibious physiology, which gives him the ability to breathe underwater, talk to aquatic creatures, speed swimming, and water manipulation, which enables his species to stay hydrated but what makes him scary is his rows of razor sharp teeth, which he uses as weapons against humans when he goes into full shark mode and smell fear from people.

Dante Crescendo is a mothman with class and lives in a fancy mausoleum in a nearby cemetery with his brother, Forte. He is known to be prim, proper and posh who can be a little uptight and stuffy, but is pretty much a kind and friendly gentleman and he knows when to be humble, go out of his comfort zone, and other things he couldn’t do because of wanting to maintain his proper demeanor. He is also cautious about monster hunters and when he gets nervous, he eats any fabric that he gets his hands on, such as a handmaid’s bonnet, a wife’s handkerchief, or a commander’s coat, which would cause devastation for the high-ranking Gileadeans because their clothes were chewed on by him. He can also change his outfits with his signature cocoon spin.

Suave and scientific, Lownote Jones is a mummy who lives in a pyramid with his treasures, his vital organs, which he keeps in jars, ushabti servants, and his pet scarabs, who act as his assistants, and companions. Lownote is calm, cool, and collected with a suave and charming personality that can charm both monsters and humans alike. As a former architect and inventor with privilege, Lownote is very intelligent and analyzes the teams’ attacks and raids first before they go ahead and under Rose’s approval, she lets him make changes. Like all mummies, he has a glass breaking scream, can speak to animals (crocodiles, scarabs, snakes, and other species of animals that are associated with the ancient Egyptian deities), psammokinesis (sand manipulation), and he can cast ancient Egyptian curses and spells.

Val Thundershock, on the other hand, is a kitsune, which is a magical subspecie of a werefox. Having arrived from Japan with her father during the rise of the Republic of Gilead, Val is still learning how to use her powers. They were able to trick anyone who is loyal to the divine government with their illusion casting, elemental powers, and magic powers until Val heard about the Snack Pack and was referred by a werewolf named Barb to join the Boo Crew. As a kitsune, Val has the usual superhuman condition and abilities of a werefox but she has illusory powers, elemental manipulation, and can use magic but in a form of a foxfire to trick her prey.

Notes

Everybody is all smiles for the group picture, from heroes to villains and everything in-between. Even characters who were otherwise sticks in the mud like Hank genuinely smile for the picture. Villains such as Muntz, de la Cruz, Lotso, Thunderclap and his gang, Syndrome, Evelyn, Randall, Waternoose, Hopper, Skinner, and Ercole, as much of evil psychopaths they were, are seen tenderly and respectfully singing along. Even Sid, who was a massive bully to Hannah, is seen giving her a kind brotherly embrace. Also, most movies’ main cast seem to be cramped together. Even the villains stand near their respective heroes, everyone in a healthy relationship with their families and loved ones are tenderly holding each other close, and many of the larger characters offer their bodies for the smaller ones.

Forky, Heimlich, Dory, Jack-Jack, Mater, WALL-E, and one of the triplets wave at the camera.

Dim and Wee Dingwall give the camera dopey smiles.

The egg-shaped bluebirds and the gawky bird stand perched above the entrance. The bluebirds are happy to have the gawky bird with them, a far cry from how they treated him in their short.

Sulley carries Boo tenderly in his arms. Helen does the same to Jack-Jack, as do Presto with Alec, Carl and Russell with Kevin’s babies, Elinor and Fergus with their triplet sons, Embarrassment with Envy, Massimo with Machiavelli, and Izzy with Sox.

Terri attempts to dance before his other half stops him.

Hank carries Marlin, Dory, and Nemo in a coffee pot.

Voyd and Abby giddily bounce in place, clearly the most excited for the photo.

Linguini carries Remy while Colette holds Django and Emile.

WALL-E and EVE hold the umbrellas from The Blue Umbrella.

HAN-S still can’t stay still, shaking aggressively as the photo is taken.

Kevin and her babies take the time to mimic Carl once again.

Maudie and the Clan Dingwall hunk share a loving look.

Young Macintosh flexes his pecs while giving the camera a cocky smile, the same type of smile given by characters like Terry, Darby, and Clod.

The Witch has her Crow standing perched on her shoulder.

Being stationary volcanoes, Uka and Lele are unable to leave their photo. Thankfully, they have Thunderclap and his gang to hold it so they can be in the group picture.

Nostalgia sticks her head out from behind Embarrassment, clearly hiding from the other emotions.

Riley, Grace, and Bree all carry Knick together while Riley’s parents carry the Miami and Florida knick knacks, Val and the Fire Hawks carry the Egypt, Jamaica, Palm Springs, Israel, and Death Valley knick knacks, and Coach Roberts carries Sunny Atlantis in her fish bowl.

Cindy, Son’s fiancée, winks at the camera as the photo is taken.

Machiavelli gives the camera his standard bored look.

Mei has her red hair, panda ears, and panda tail, continuing to embrace her panda.

Aaron Z gives the camera a thumbs up while Tae Young makes a heart with his hands.

Izzy gives Sox a neck scratch.

Alisha and Kiko’s inclusion also counts due to their backlash following the movie’s release.

Aún así, posee fuerza suficiente como para aplastar a un Gloink Queenmon con su garra de MarinChimairamon usando su "Grammer iron" una alternativa más débil e improvisada de su ataque original.

First part of a Astarion/Karlach thing I'm writing. Basically a little rewrite of some Act 3 scenes. Could become something bigger, who knows.

"Well, at least you've met my family now," Astarion says. "Pity. You and Violet would get on quite well. Haha."

His tone is light and dismissive, especially for a midnight familial attempted kidnapping. But there's a desperate edge to it, too, like he's worried she might finally see sense and run for the hills.

Karlach's never been accused of being sensible. If Astarion burning his brother in a sunbeam while his sister screamed didn't scare her off, this little evening interruption sure won't.

Karlach does hope she will have a chance to meet his siblings properly, once they're all free.

"I wouldn't've let them take you anywhere," she vows, chest heaving, still very much caught up in protective Mama K mode.

"I know. Deep breaths, darling."

Astarion still looks wary, as if he's expecting the other shoe to drop. She can't cool down, she realizes, not yet, because she's still angry.

Angry at him.

"You lied to them. About the ritual. Like it was easy."

He scoffs. "It was easy. They aren't exactly the brightest candles in the chandelier, you know."

"You're really gonna sacrifice your own brothers and sisters? Betray their trust in you like--like they're nothing." Like Gortash did, she thinks but doesn't say. There are some words you can't take back. She loves this pasty bastard too much to actually believe he'd go through with it, anyway.

"What does it matter? They're just my...colleagues in suffering. Expendable. Pathetic." Oh, Astarion's giving her the old monster routine, one of his thinner disguises. She can see the aelf-loathing clesrly beneath without even really trying. "And let's not forget they are vampire spawn. Hardly innocent."

"Fuck, Astarion, none of us are! You only give a shit about yourself, huh?"

"Why not? No one ever looked out for me. No one ever said a kind thing to me. You're the only one," he insists, getting a bit heated himself now. "Other people don't have a heart like you."

"Damn right, soldier," she replies quietly, tapping a fist against her engine as it ticks and whirs her numbered days away. The rage fades. "Sort of the problem, isn't it."

"I-- shit, Karlach, I didn't mean--"

There he is.

"Hey. It's all right."

It isn't, not really. Nothing is all right anymore. But they will be.

Karlach just can't be the only good thing he sees in this world. It's not fair to either of them. Gods only know how much more time she even has left, besides; Astarion shouldnt be alone, not after everything he's been through. She needs him to be okay without her, selfish as it is.

"Scares me when you talk like that," she admits. "Like other people are just things to you."

"I'm sorry, Karlach," he says, miserably. "I don't know if I can be anything else, here."

Karlach's mother always told her to never go to bed angry. After ten years in the Hells, it felt pointless and silly, but tonight with his siblings' blood staining the floor, she thinks she might understand the wisdom in that advice.

"C'mere, Fangs."

She opens her arms. Always gives him a choice; touch is complicated for both of them in a lot of ways. And, yeah, there's her cuddly Astarion after all. Must be exhausting pretending to something he's not all the time. Thought so since she met him that day by the river. All those masks and yet none seems to fit quite right. She knows the feeling, more or less.

"You're loved, you hear me?" she tells him. "So fucking loved."

His skin is a pleasant balm; hers is still smoldering a little. They don't let go.

"You make things so difficult," he complains softly against her collarbone, affectionate despite the actual words.

"Knew this wasn't gonna be easy. But I swear, tomorrow we'll kick Cazador's ass," she murmurs, holding him tighter. "I've got you."

"Ugh. Get a room, you two," Shadowheart grumbles from her bed.

They have a room, though. This room. The others will simply have to deal with that.

It's gonna be okay.

this scene in ‘a soft place to land,’ but really the whole idea of Aizawa saving Izuku as a kid, for the DVD commentary asks!!

the thing about the aizawa saving izuku as a kid stuff is that i made things harder for myself than i needed to for no real reason. like, the whole fic is inherently not canon compliant because of how different things would be after, so i could have just made up whatever i want - but i was intrigued to see if i could spin the aizawa saving izuku as a kid stuff in a way that made both their actions in their canon first day meeting at least vaguely plausible

i had not actually really thought until i got this ask about why that is. i guess i lean towards making things canon compliant when possible, because it's personally more satisfying to me that way, and also sometimes interesting things happen if you try to write within tight restrictions. so a lot of stuff in that passage and in the fic in general is a consequence of needing aizawa to not remember and izuku to not say anything when they meet at UA

i'll explain more as we get into the passage itself:

“It was okay, though,” Izuku says. “You stopped them. You saved us.” Eraserhead looks at Izuku for a long time, that worried expression shifting but never leaving.  “The older you never said anything,” he says at last.

narrator voice: It Was Not Okay. a lot of this fic is aizawa quietly observing things that make teenaged izuku's behaviour retrospectively more concerning and this is for sure one of them. and normally he actually does a pretty good job of doing that quietly bc he is king of compartmentalizing

tangent but a lot of other characters in this fic inadvertently stress little izuku out because they don't compartmentalize as well. the whole thing is so weird that they forget about izuku's subjective experience of the situation as a disoriented frightened kid and forget that their familiarity with teenage izuku doesn't translate. not because they're monsters - it's a deeply weird situation, and people often forget about little kids' subjective experiences even when that kid isn't also basically a walking quirk accident. this is reflected in name stuff - aizawa intentionally makes the switch to izuku immediately to create a separation in his mind between 16yo hero student and frightened 7yo (which is somewhat easier bc he meets baby izuku in a situation that v much puts him in hero mode not teacher mode. and also he already has practice with traumatised 7 year olds)

so this is one of relatively few times he does address little izuku while thinking/talking about the older one, because while the stuff he's learned about izuku before (late bloomer, level of anxiety, general behaviour honestly) is worrying, it wasn't about him. this is like...this kid's secret-keeping is so inbuilt that he never told me we'd met before (and also doesn't seem to understand that it's okay to be upset about having been in a very scary situation as a tiny tiny kid)

Izuku shrugs helplessly. He doesn’t know why the boy he’d seen staring back at him from Uraraka’s phone screen would do anything. He’s just as much of a stranger as any of those teenagers.

man a lot of this fic is me waving my arms and yelling bc de-aging for the de-aged person is so deeply existentially weird. most of the de-aging fics i've read don't get that deep into that weirdness, which is entirely fair bc i think my level of interest in that element is an outlier, but truly like...

imagine you wake up and it's almost 10 years in the future. you're surrounded by people you don't know but who know you and have whole relationships with you that you know nothing about. and you live somewhere different, you have an entirely different life. and it seems life a good life, better than you ever imagined having even, but that's already so jarring emotionally even when you are not trying to not process all that as a literal child.

so whenever i was figuring my way through young izuku's POV, i couldn't make his older self not on some level uncanny and frightening to think about. and it's also, as discussed above, even stranger when people expect you to be able to speak for them and account for their actions

“Your mom never brought it up either.”

yeah so one of the consequences of trying to make that first meeting vaguely plausible is that inko can't know. bc you cannot tell me that if inko midoriya knew there was a hero who saved her son and that hero is now his homeroom teacher, that there wouldn't have been a lovely handwritten thank you note. probably a fruit basket also.

Izuku hunches over a little more. That’s the only other memory he has from that night—his dad kneeling in front of Izuku and explaining that it wasn’t a good idea to worry his mom by telling her what happened. “My mom…worries,” Izuku echoes. “So I think my dad didn’t really…tell her. Or if he did, he made it sound…less bad? No heroes or villains.” Eraserhead hums. “I see that’s a familial trait.”  Izuku isn’t sure if he means the worrying or making things sound less bad. He shrugs helplessly again. 

so if inko isn't there, then the logical answer is that hisashi is instead. which then decides some stuff about hisashi in itself, if he did not explain that any of this occurred to inko. sorry to hisashi midoriya for my slander of his hypothetical character in two different fics now. but i liked the idea, like aizawa says, of these familial traits - these ways that parents teach their kids, intentionally or otherwise, about how they should interact with the world

there's a song i really like from 36 questions the podcast musical, Our Word, which goes through the ways the narrator's parents taught her that lying was the best way to succeed in life, starting with her accidentally breaking something of her dad's as a little kid and her mom reassuring her it was okay because they could just lie to him & say they don't know how it got broken

i wasn't thinking of that explicitly, and this is a pretty different lesson learned, but i like the idea of hisashi having taught izuku, whether he meant to or not, that he is responsible for not upsetting his mom by letting her know about bad things that have happened to him. that if he cares about his mom, he'll make sure she doesn't have to be hurt too by things that have already hurt him.

which is particularly insidious when you think about those two legacies, because izuku is also an anxious kid already. as he gets older he can recognise his mom's anxiety more and knows what it feels like to be that scared. so of course he'd want to make sure she doesn't have to feel like that when she doesn't have to. all he has to do is smile and say it's okay. what kind of hero will he be if he can't do that?

this isn't my fixed headcanon for izuku's family, but it is one i found interesting to explore, especially when only filling in impressions of hisashi through a few tiny hazy memories. and i do think it's fun that all of that came out of trying to make two kind of irreconcilable things - aizawa saving izuku as a kid and their meeting at UA still going the way it did in canon - fit together.
