I think it's harder to be fictionkin as a minor than as an adult, and it's part as of why I don't engage a lot in kin discords and such, or try to reach out to people. I don't tend to have many sources where I want to talk to sourcemates; if I do, then it's obscure, and if I somehow find people they're only adults seeking other adults - and I never reach out for those I had romantic memories with these days so it's nothing to do with that unpleasantry. I mainly look for my old families, my friends, my mentors.

I've had moments in the community where I and other minors have been called ‘babies’ - not disparagingly but as a joke, but it just came across as patronising especially as pretty much all of us were closer to 18 than 13. I was remembering this because in my Language class today my teacher called us all children to demonstrate a point on how things can be offensive even if that's not the point.

I'm not saying every space should be minor friendly, that's implausible of course, but there should be more acceptance. Sorry to get this all off my chest. It feels lonely and isolating at times. I can't wait to get older.

Heyo! As a system that’s been aware of itself for over 3 years now and is finally getting diagnosed with something. We can’t help but be terrified of the results of our diagnosis, we’re only getting it by September 6th, and we have no clue what it’ll turn out being and… it’s a very uneasy feeling, to have waited over a year to get diagnosed and finally be tested but having to WAIT AND SEE for the rest of the summer. It’s horrifying… and I would love some advice, because, if it turns out to be something entirely different from OSDD-1b, like we suspect it is, what could we even do?

Perirep manifesto anon again-- glad you enjoyed it! I will say though, that all kinda dovetails into another point I have, which is I think that Cosmo and Wanda being in the show as main cast was a misstep. Not saying they shouldn't be there at all, I like C and W! But I think Hazel as an MC should have begotten a different fairy. I love that most of ANW *doesn't* rely on the old cast entirely for it to work, though it's clear that those characters are still around and provide framing for the new setting. Hazel, Dev, the Wells, Jasmine, Winn, and the Galax Institute are all great new additions, and the characters that HAVE come back (Dale, Peri, Irep, Crocker, AJ, etc) are re-contextualized and have something new to bring to the table. The only characters that don't really do that are Cosmo and Wanda. I think Hazel is a character who's problems were too easily solved by them being around-- they are TOO experienced in dealing with kids like Hazel, to the point where it feels like Hazel has most of the things she wants now and it's more difficult to explore what makes her interesting as a protagonist. It doesn't ~ruin~ the show or make Hazel a bad character, but I do think the show gave up it's foundational tension too easily. Fly is an incredible pilot precisely because Cosmo and Wanda *aren't* there to swoop in and make Hazel happy, we sit with her and her problems for a good 20 minutes and we really feel for her. I also think the pair of them work better in the pilot because we see them trying to be human and not quite have a handle on their magic. They have to deal with the Wells as humans and it pushes them out of their comfort zone. I ultimately think Peri would have been a much better choice for Hazel, as he's not only a new character that you have more freedom to work with to fit the story, but also more suited to what the story is trying to do with Hazel. Hazel is a quirky, kindhearted person who just wants companionship while doing her best to fit into a new environment and discovering who she is without the social safety net her brother gave her. This would fit perfectly with what Peri is going though as a new godparent, trying to be the best at this new thing without his parents or Timmy around, but not always getting it right. I think their rapport would have been more interesting to watch while also making it distinct from the original show's fairy-child dynamic. Judging by how badly fairies like Cookie neglect their godchild's wishes and get away with it, Dev could easily have a different fairy who does a poor job with him and end up where he needed to be by the finale. After seeing some of the interviews and BTS info for this show, I really feel for the showrunners, because I think they're competent writers who knew what this story needed, but Nickelodeon interfered and kept them from doing those things. Reading the leaked show bible, things like the Wells being too busy to pay attention to Hazel and Cosmo and Wanda being out of practice were pushed way more! But unfortunately those things aren't focused on in the final. Nickelodeon clearly didn't have faith in Hazel being ~~relatable~~ (read: she's not white and that's scary to CEOs), so they didn't want her to have difficult problems or things that made her sad. To which the showrunners were like "well typically stories need things like 'character arcs' and 'conflict'. So maybe let us include those?" And Nick conceded, but only a little. I especially feel bad for Ashleigh Crystal Hairston, who clearly has put a lot of love into the Wells as black characters written by a black person, only to have gormless studio execs tell her to her face that Hazel "isn't relatable enough".
