oct 1 - aqua ring

man why does the aqua ring gotta look like… that.

… i am trying something new this october, which is to just.. focus on one au. which isn’t to say every piece will be in the same au, but just that instead of agonizing over prompts, i can just keep developing one idea.

i am also doing a new au. i’m too invested in most of the others to do rushed drawtober pieces for them 🤣

so here we goooooooooooo.

(btw, i am DEFINITELY not doing comics every day all month. i am not doing comics every piece nor am i doing them every day. i mean… let’s be real, it’s me, we’re doing good if you get like…. 4 pieces out of me in october.)

I love this question because it gives me an excuse to send you a horrifying video of jellyfish eating over Ava Maria.

Whoever edited this made me laugh so hard, my jaw hurt and I had a headache the whole morning after I found it the first time. Something about Ava Maria being exchanged for some horror music, the change of angle and then the RETURN TO AVA MARIA AS THE FISH JUST SITS IN A JELLYFISH SHAPED PRISON? I can’t, I just can’t. It feels like my mom edited this.

Anyway, no, sun and moon definitely eat with their regular mouths, as funny as the mental image of them shoving fish in strange places is.

Fisherman Grian doesn't think much of it when there's more fish biting his line. Every day is a new day of course. He jokes with Scar and Gem that someone must be putting the fish on themselves, for this luck.

He offhandedly comments on how calm the waters have been recently. His boat barely rocks in the water anymore. He thanks the lake every time for it, to be polite.

Grian doesn't really notice that anything is strange until he tries out another body of water. His usual lake is great, but Gem told him about a smaller body of water down the river that feeds the lake that has a wonderful view. She was right, of course, it was beautiful, but that's when Grian notices how... unfriendly this area feels. The water laps harder at the sand and washes away Scars artworks. There's nary a bite to his fishing rod.

When he finally gives up and heads back to his lake, he feels compelled to apologize for leaving. Gem and Scar laugh at him when water splashes against a nearby rock and sprays his face.

When Scar and Gem are off elsewhere, collecting objects and tending to each other's fins, Grian just talks to the water. Tells it stories about himself and his friends. The water feels even calmer those days, as if it's listening.

When that big storm arrives suddenly and the Merfolk have to swim to the lake bottom to avoid debris,

well,

The water finally has the courage to speak back.

im sorry for having sent so many asks in succession but the mer au is really in my head rn lol!!! and btw i was thinking abt the mysterious researcher and was like 'huh, in my head shes really distinctly a female' and then i realised i had a whole mental image of them so basically MR is their own character to me now! i drew what i feel like they look like:

its a quick doodle but she was just really clear in my head lol, i dont know if shes inadvertently based of someone else or what but yeah!!!

And omg she’s so pretty! And her clipboard! She’s totally doodling little notes about or local mer pod on it! Her and MR would probably get along like a house on fire! 😩💚

And I mean— there’s easily a hundred researchers at least in that facility! She could very well be another one like MR, who’s secretly working against the superiors and trying to cover up crucial information that could potentially end up harming the merfolk, actively risking her life to mislead them!

She’d totally watch MR have a breakdown and direct people away from them. Even go so far as to distract [redacted], assuming he’d become suspicious of MR. (A little late for that but it’s the THOUGHT that counts!)

And she’d probably suspect that MR, like her, is trying to help the mers, but she’s too smart and cautious to say anything.

She’s totally canon now! 💚💚💚💚🌊🌊

Inspiration Saturday

I've been dealing with some writers block so instead of writing I've been trying to learn more about American football – the actual sport is still as confusing to me as ever, however I love shenanigans, tomfoolery, and drama and boy does the NFL have a lot of it

anyways I stumbled upon this clip and I haven't stopped thinking about it since it's so fucking funny

will I find a way to incorporate it into the fic?? idk man we'll just have to wait and see :)

Dying to know about the Frankie dog rescue and Tidal Force!

Hello! Thanks for asking about these two, darling!

Tidal Force started as a one shot for Mermay and then I thought about it more and realized there was still a lot of story to tell. It focuses on the Living Waters - and more importantly, what's in them - as well as some made up Mandalorian myths about the moon. I don't have anything concrete to share for the next part of this yet, but it will pick up immediately where the alleged one shot left off.

The Frankie Dog Rescue AU really needs a title but nothing has jumped out at me yet, so I'm hoping it will reveal itself eventually as I continue to work on it. (slowly.)

Basically, it's going to be a TF story where Frankie - with Benny's help - runs a Dog Rescue. The rest of the guys will play small roles, too. Reader meets Frankie when she comes across a dog that needs help and ends up bringing her to his place. It's going to be very light and cute. Thinking about Frankie surrounded by doggers of all shapes and sizes makes me happy, so I hope it will make other people happy, too. Here's a tiny snippet:

The crunch of tires on the rocky driveway made him swivel his head towards the window. Well, shit. What he saw made his eyes go wide, and he tried to blink the shock from them. I’ll be goddamned. 

Standing from his desk and crossing his arms loosely over his chest, Frankie shifted his weight to one leg and called over his shoulder. “Hey, Benny?” 

“Yeah?” The other man’s footsteps grew closer until he was standing in the doorway, one hand leaning on the frame. “You need somethin’? What’s- oh.” Frankie moved aside so Benny could see what - and who - he was looking at. “Well I’ll be goddamned.” The grin he wore was audible, causing Frankie to roll his eyes. Cocky little shit. “Guess I was right. She came back.”  “Yeah,” he said, letting out a small huff that was just as much astonishment as it was amusement. She sure did. He watched as you finished parking in the same spot you’d pulled into two days earlier, directly next to his truck, and then pulled a box out of the back seat.
