Benji's lack of response to Ilsa's offer to Ethan to run away together is evidence of when he got nabbed.
If he'd been around to hear his husband propositioned, there would have been commentary. He was gone well before the comms squealed.

Ethan and Julia are my favorite couple. I think she is Ethan's last love. I am very sad that he had to let her go. 🥲

I truly doubt this would happen in a million bajillion years unless everyone involved in this movie is actually insanely real and/or I manage to invent inception and time travel to make it real but
In my Final Reckoning ending, Ethan sacrifices himself (stay with me) to defeat the entity. It's all very sad and stuff, I'm crying, you're crying, benjis crying, maybe he reveals his love either there or in the head touch. Cut to Ethan's funeral, still all very sad, all our favs from past movies (jane and brandt basically) are there, then slowly leave until it's just Benji at his headstone like in sherlock season 2. Then he says "didn't i tell you someday you were gonna take it too far" and someone steps into frame behind him. Bam cut to black and cue the theme.
And then dan and Phil walk out during the credits and kiss holding the pride flag and all that you know the drill

those poor employees trying to petition for more funds to the US government...yeah we need special handprint-activated cars in every city...also a million dollars worth of this special rubber we make masks with...can you imagine how they explain exploding every single message they send out? like they don't HAVE to self-destruct, they could send this in an email...but we have to be super cool. we need one billion exploding sunglasses please. yeah it's important
I do love the action and spys and big explosions in m:i but i also really like the thought of other departments in the IMF like... the fiance department... they must hate it there, what do you mean they need to explode 70 cars to get a breif case full of launch codes... i know they saved the world but like... cmon. whats the HR dept like what do they do in there? how would the firing process go? do they even fire people? or do they just... take them out to the back...? Ethan would go to HR if he 'retires' from the whole spy thing, just training new staff, i think he would dig it.

one thing about the mission impossible movies is they are not afraid to make tom cruise look like an idiot. they'll put him in a jacket that's too big for him. they'll put him in the dorkiest 2000s cyclist sunglasses. they'll put him in a silly little beanie. they'll put him in capri pants at 50 years old. they said yes ethan hunt is a massively capable government agent but first and foremost he is human and as such he is susceptible to fashion fails just like the rest of us

Y'all practical effects bitches are really sleeping on the Mission: Impossible movies.
"Oh everything is CGI these days!" Mission: Impossible uses practical effects whenever it's safe to do so, and their definition of safe is incredibly skewed because Tom Cruise is, frankly, batshit insane.
The man refuses to use stunt doubles because he insists the audience can tell when it's not him. He's apparently one of the best stunt drivers in the world. He drove up a cliff and skidded to a stop right on the edge for real in Dead Reckoning. He got a fucking helicopter license and spent like three years training for the climactic scene in Fallout.
Most of the helicopter chase in Fallout was real. The midair oxygen-tank swap in that movie was also real. They practiced for it in a wind tunnel and then did the real thing in freefall.
When Tom Cruise dies, it's either going to be because he realized Scientology was a crock and tried to get out and they fucking killed him (highly unlikely that he'll ever come to that realization), or because his luck finally ran out while filming a stunt for a Mission: Impossible movie (significantly more likely).
Seriously, if you have the blu-rays of any of these movies, I strongly encourage you to watch them with the director's commentaries. Especially the ones directed by Christopher McQuarrie. That man has an almost pathological distaste for CGI (and when they do have to use it, he's incredibly respectful and complimentary of the people who do the special effects).
Do yourself a favor and watch these movies. They're not just kitschy action flicks. They're kitschy action flicks with a metric fuckton of practical effects, and a production team that really cares about the stories they're crafting.
