What I'm going to say doesn't make much sense but in a post I said that Sabito in my AU almost never takes off his mask,and I just think it would be funny that Sabito wears a kitsune mask with a terrifying,intimidating and extremely sinister appearance time and that under her mask she has a face that looks so gentle,adorable and angelic despite having a huge scar

Don't judge me,but in my AU Sabito has a very tender appearance so to speak under her mask well emmm...she looks something like that,I'm going to describe itvery pale skin,large,crystalline lavender eyes,full red lips,long eyelashes(and I've been considering having them the same color as her pink hair)

Tribe Headshots, went with my fav group: the Jade winglet! except replace Carnelian with Peril because she’s iconic. And who better for the Pantalan tribes than our protags?

I'm quite happy with them, detailed explanations for each under the cut hehe (except 1 which I didn't redesign at all, can you guess which ?)

The canon Pyrrhian tribe designs bother me SO much because they’re sO SIMILARR GRRAAAHAA

I love what they tried to do, but I don’t think they were pushed enough. As a seasoned fan I can tell them apart now, but back when i first started i thought i'd never learn them all 😭 Looking at uncolored pictures of each tribe made my brain cry because of how hard I needed to stare to tell them apart

For example: this shittily slapped together compilation of the Pyrrhian tribes

At a glance, they don't look different enough in my opinion. That being said, im not saying my own designs are the bestest most delicious and perfect because they’re certainly not, it’s just my take on them

MudWings

inspiration: alligators and the babirusa

still have strong upper bodies I just forgot to draw that in,,,

notable changes: thick tusks for foraging

RainWings

inspiration: frilled lizard

out of all the tribes they changed the least, their frills wrap around ~90% of their head instead of just being behind the ears

notable changes: venomous fangs poke out of their mouth, everything else about them I liked & kept the same

SkyWings

inspiration: falcons, caracaras, kestrels, cockatoos & gryphons,,,I just made em feathery to be honest

it’s a shame that Skywings don’t have any feathers so I helped with that

their head feathers vary between dragons & can be styled

SandWings

inspiration: bearded dragons, bactrian camels, rattlesnakes

couldn't decide between camel-fur sandwings and bearded dragon sandwings so I went with both! Also with an alternate tail & fang! A sandwing can either have coarse hair, which they shed & grow seasonally, or little nubbin spikes like bearded dragons

Independent of fur and spikes is their tail tip: the classic venomous scorpion barb Or a physically harmless rattle-tail. Rattle-tailed sandwings have larger, venomous front fangs

all sandwings have tough scales on their palm for walking on the sand

Spikey sandwings have designated time for basking during the day, similar to the rainwing’s suntime

in this reimagining there’s now cities (or little villages) safe beneath the desert sand! It’s inhabited mostly by spikey-sandwings at night, so they don’t get too cold above ground. Furred-sandwings are mostly above ground at any time since their fur insulates them

shed sandwing-fur can and often is used for clothing or rugs—good for recycling and gifts!

The heirloom potential,,,Imagine your great grand-sand uses her shed fur to make some nice upholstery and then generations later you get to see and touch it, almost like great grand-sand is still there

SeaWings

inspiration: betta fish, Axolotls, sharks, manta ray, catfish (shark & manta ray features are kinda minor)

their canon design pissed me off so much. Why in their reference do their horns curve upward when they spend most of their time underwater? Would that not create drag when swimming? And their nearly-nonexistent underbelly fins don’t help with maneuvering

I wanted them to be pretty like mermaids so they’re covered in frills lol

betta fish-like fins along their head, back and underbelly

arm fins help underwater but can be (painlessly) pinned in place as to avoid damage above water. Also an excuse to drape themselves in pearls to be sparkly and pretty

barbels (whiskers) at the edge of their mouth & underneath the chin (canon Seawing barbels r too short to do anything with in my opinion)

I didn’t draw it but they still have webbed toes

My favorite detail: they now have an organ for storing water which they can spew like any fire-breathing dragon

IceWings

inspiration: reindeer, polar bear

they have the fluff + skin layers of polar bears, considered making them super fluffy but I liked big hulking beast better

serrated claws like ice hooks

NightWings

inspiration: bats, yeah just bats, big ears for yum hearing and yes they echolocate now

since they’re covered in fur, the silver neck scales are just a fur pattern down their body now

Saved the best tribes for last >:3 or rather I saved what I thought to be the most interesting & controversial for last lol

SilkWings

inspiration: fluffy moths

YES a 6-limbed Silkwing, stay with me! Silkwings are great climbers right? Because they’re born wingless so they have to climb trees and silk-spun nets mhm. And they have four wings instead of 2? And those wings connect to the shoulders ?

All of that leads to having another set of arms! 4 arms means better climbing and another pair of shoulders for the 2nd wings to connect to! Honestly this ref could double as a Beetlewing ref since Silks visually resemble Beetles the most

“but how does this connect to the Hivewin—

IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED (I say to the crowd that didn’t ask)

Let me set the scene:

Pantala, ~3000A.S, inhabited by Leafwings and 6-limbed Beetlewings. All (Beetlewings) are born wingless with abilities like spinning silk, wrist and/or tail stingers, foul scent etc. introduce Clearsight’s Nightwing genes to the Beetlewing gene pool

Nightwings are born with wings, only 4 limbs & black scales. Which get passed on to her children and her children’s children and it continues into modern day

(For my sanity im assuming that Nightwing genes are extra dominant, so if Clearsight’s kids got with pure Beetlewings, then those kids may have some Nightwing traits which would continue until they’re a wholly different tribe)

The first few generations of clearsight’s children& grandchildren would be Beetle/Night hybrids, but over 2000 years they could evolve to modern day Hivewings! Born with 4 wings, no need for expert climbing so they (eventually) lost their extra pair of arms, they got all the Beetlewings defensive abilities and Clearsight’s black scales gene

had to make a chart to make sense of it 💀

HiveWings

inspiration: bees, my hc silkwings

continuing from the silkwing rant: the Beetlewings were completely fluffy, but Clearsight’s genes diluted that aspect of them. They have chest & (short) leg fuzz like real bees

Also for the 1 tribe I didn’t change: if you guessed Leafwings you’re correct! I think they’re fine as is🍁🌿
