Maybe I was just hungry for blood
In which Soren has issues. Find on ao3!
Soren thought he was being pretty obvious when flirting with that guy– Corvus. But maybe flirting wasn’t a thing there. He wouldn’t know.
He prefers the water, anyways. Probably for the best he stays there.
He dove down through the water, his surroundings darkening the deeper he went. A few yards from the shore, the ground dropped, leaving a vast plane of dark water. The fins on his forearms started to illuminate, glowing a soft red along with the swirled pattern on his tail, which had been invisible until now.
As he swam lower, it got brighter, passing other mers who were herding fish. Those who weren’t were probably still sleeping.
He dove into one of the underwater caves, taking a moment to let his eyes adjust to the darkness after being at the surface for as long as he was. The thin membrane of his second eyelid slid out of place, allowing him to see properly.
Claudia was sitting in one of the wall crevices, arms crossed. “You’re late, Sorbear.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know. Sorry.” Soren apologized. His eyes went to the large enchanted tome in her lap. “Again?”
“You know the drill.” She flicked one of her tentacles at him. A subtle purple glow came from the suction cups lining the underside of them, matching the glow coming from her ear fins, under her eyes, and the fins on her forearms.
“Why? What’s so great about the surface anyways?” He flopped down on the stone.
Claudia clicked her tongue. “Everything, Soren. You’d know that if you actually went up there for more than a day.”
“I’m perfectly content down here. Here, I don’t have to worry about birds. Or boats. Or walking.” He wrinkled his nose. “Swimming’s faster.”
“So? It’s not about that.” Her ear fins flicked, annoyed. “It’s about the smells and the feeling of the wind on your skin and the dirt under your feet-”
“Don’t get me started on human feet.” The fins under his eyes flared.
“Regardless. It’s about the adventure, not the destination.” Her eyes glimmered. “Tell me, have you ever jumped off a cliff into the water?”
Soren looked at her. “No. And I don’t think I want to.”
“You should really utilize this gift more often, Sor.”
He sat up. “It’s not a gift, it’s a blood ritual that you and dad do every Night of the Sun.”
“Heart ritual.” Claudia corrected. “There’s more heart than blood.”
“That doesn’t make it better.”
“You need to be more open minded.”
“Claudia’s right.” Soren looked over at the cave entrance, seeing Viren.
“Well, gladly leave me out of it this time.” The fins under his eyes flicked.
“You know we can’t do that.” She looked at him. “It needs three people at minimum.”
“Then pick literally anyone else.”
“We already have your blood for it, Soren.” Viren sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose, the fins under his eyes flaring. “Just don’t use it like you always end up doing anyways.” His voice had an undertone of disappointment or annoyance. Soren had a hard time telling the difference when it came to him.
The dark red glow from Viren’s ear fins seemed to pulse lightly, his gaze going to Claudia. The two of them had this weird code with their fin lights, and it ticked Soren off because he had no idea how to find out what they were saying.
He flicked his ear fins. “Just tell me to leave, why don’t you?” Soren swam past Viren. “I’m going to find Rayla.”
“Soren-” Claudia started, but he was already out of the cave. Immediately, he dived downward, following the edge of the underwater cliff. Soon, the only thing he could see in front of him was the glow from the webs between his fingers and the fins on his forearms, lighting a few feet in front of him.
He ran his hand along the rocky cliffside, making sure not to drift too much as he swam, before coming to a stop. Running his hand back alongside the cliff, he felt a small, sharp shell.
Mussels.
Alright, small detour.
He pulled a small knife from his belt, before wedging it between the bottom shell and the rock, severing it from the rock before stuffing it in the small pouch attached to his belt. He squinted, the fins under his eyes brightening in an attempt to help him see. He saw the vague outlines of the other mussels, and pried them off with the flat of his knife, one by one, putting them into the pouch.
“Boo.”
Soren jumped, his fins flashing brightly as he spun around.
Rayla laughed, her thinner eyelids sliding over her eyes to block the light from Soren’s fins.
“Really Rayla?” His fins dimmed as he tucked his knife away, wanting to throw it at her instead.
“I’m sorry- it was just too perfect.” She cackled, her spiky ear fins flicking.
Soren swatted at her with his tail. “Not funny.”
“Too funny.” She wiggled her fingers at him. Like most midsea mers, she had four fingers, with silvery webbing between them and longer, sharper nails.
“Yeah, yeah, get it all out now. I was just looking for you.” He rolled his eyes.
Her inner eyelid lifted, showing her pale purple eyes, barely having a pupil. “Looked to me like you were looking for mussels.”
“I got distracted! Plus, mussels are good.”
Rayla shrugged, the flaps of her gills flaring slightly. “Can’t argue with that. Why were ya looking for me?”
“Just needing to get away from Claudia and dad.” He wrinkled his nose lightly.
“Eugh.” She flicked her teal tail. “Let’s not talk about them, then.”
The two of them started swimming, following the cliff down further before reaching the sandy bottom. Looking up, Soren could still see hints of light from the sun reaching down to where they were, but it didn’t provide all that much light due to the overcast day above.
“What else have you been doing?” She asked, retrieving a bag from behind a small pile of rocks and draping it around her shoulder.
“I talked to a human for a bit.” He glanced back upwards before back at her, settling down on the sandy ground.
The scales under her eyes flared from excitement. “Really?”
He nodded. “Yeah. He said his name was Corvus.”
“Like the bird?” She arched an eyebrow at him, picking up a flat shell from the sand, inspecting it under the silvery light from her fins.
“Yeah. He had a notebook with him. Drew a nice sea snail.”
“I hope you didn’t scare him too much.”
“Be glad you weren’t there. He’d be terrified.”
She flicked sand into his face with her tail, causing his thinner eyelids to cover his eyes, preventing the sand from entering them.
Soren clicked his tongue. “Rayla, Rayla. Flicking sand? How immature.”
“Oh, shush.” Rayla rolled her eyes. “You were asking for it.”
“Was not!”
“You totally were.” she tucked the shell into her bag. “Don’t even try to deny it, Mister smort longpocket.”
“Okay, that was one time in front of Finnegrin. He was hot and I was improvising.” He flopped down, sand clouding up around him.
Rayla fanned the sand cloud away. “He was not, but okay.”
“You just don’t have good taste.”
“He tried feeding me to a Leviathan!”“...Okay fair.”

My Lestat spotify playlist;
With explanation(rant) because Im a dork who is very proud of this and I love this guy could talk about him till my voice bubbles and words crack
Tumblr media
Playlist here <
> 4 minute warning, Radiohead
Probably more book Lestat, are they really that different from eachother? but specifically Lord Wolfkiller, early Lestat, pre and just post transformation Lestat, Lestat who's dragged out his bedroom window and begs for God, his denial and unwelcomed embrace from the dark gift. (When i find you magnus...)
> La mer, nine inch nails
> Bury me deep inside, HIM
It wouldn't be Lestat without some rock, and it most definitely wouldnt be Lestat without HIM, yearning rock songs if that doesn't scream him then I don't know what does, oh wow could this song be used to explain so much of him haha Lestat stalking Louis through New Orleans completely encapsulated by him, falls head over heels for a man he doesn't know and creates this perfect picture of who Louis is and what they could be, the man who just lets Louis beat him to a pulp and then cries attachment issues, his first love Nicolas and we all know how that (well, he) ended. Lestat who says himself the only way he'd die is from murder, he would never turn to the fire with Louis there.
> The fall, Gary Numan
ROCKSTAR LESTAT!!! ROCKSTAR LESTAT!!!
> Love me, love and rockets
So love this song so much, sums up season three i feel pretty well, going to be lots of things going on especially with past lovers, best believe when the scenepacks are out i will be on that like hound to a fox people!!
> Leash called love, The sugarcubes
BJORK! Sums up lestats thoughts on armand after episode 8 lol Believing and being confused as to why Louis stayed with Armand under the assumption that he knew he was the one who actually saved him, this poor boy. (Hes a murderer)
> The search of my rose, The tear garden
Guys... m*gnus.. vomit, don't shoot the messenger now, a reflection of how his maker consistently is always shadowing over his current relationships, with louis, you either get it or you don't!!
> Musette and drums, cocteau twins
> Into the light, Siouxsie and the banshees
> The way things are, Fiona apple
HOW NOONE HAS SEEN THE ALIKENESS BETWEEN HIM AND THIS SONG IS INSANE. "how could I fight? when were on the same side, how could I fight? beside you" Especially now with what we know about lestat and Louis during that argument. Wake up people!!!
Tumblr media
That is the end! I have many many more playlists, for claudia, louis and armand ,finding music is my past time if I'm trapped on an island give me unlimited data with access to Google I would be the happiest person. Turn me into a vampire so I can listen to music for eternity.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If there's one thing I find the series emphasizes enough, it's that Claudia presents herself as a victim against dragons and elves. And when I looked into it, there were traits that reminded me of Claudia, as well as the victim mentality.
The first that comes to mind is often that they blame their misfortunes on others. They may even have a moral elitism that gives them a black-and-white point of view. We saw this in her discussion with Soren. The fact that she says humanity has suffered and that elves and dragons haven't lifted a finger except for Aaravos. Or when she says that dark magic saved her brother. But who also doesn't hesitate to be cruel to Ibis, or even sadistic when she confronts a dragon. And it's precisely because the reason, "she's doing it to save her father". But it's often because we justify such actions that we turn a blind eye to horrible ones.
Viren doesn't have it easy, because Claudia's influence will also take her further, which is what Viren fears in his nightmare. Soren was able to detach himself from Viren before it was too late, but Claudia clings to him desperately. Just the fact that she's brought him back to life shows her hair turning white from the effects of dark magic. So much so that it consumes her! Viren's death will drive her further into despair. As we can see in the season 6 teaser, where we see her blank stare, she's lost her beacon, not even hearing Terry's words.
One of the other traits is also the lack of empathy, when she provokes Rayla by showing her family stuck in the rooms but tricks her into saving Terry. And she was ready to go, leaving Rayla like that. Or in the episode where she finds Callum, Ezran in the Sea of Castouts. Or she plays the empathy card and manipulates them. By saying that if it had been Harrow, wouldn't they have been tempted? But as soon as the plan doesn't work, she threatens to kill them until Rayla cuts off her leg. And until Callum undoes her spell. Which could be attributing negative intentions to the oppressor, where she sees Callum and the others as more than enemies.
In that case, what about those accompanying him? Viren was in a vegetative state, unable to do much. And this was precisely what worried Claudia, but also frustrated her, as she wanted to hurry to save her father. She no longer has her beacon! Sir Sparklepuff, in the short story, we saw that she tries to make contact with Aaravos. And that one of the only dialogues with him was 'The being who will emerge from this cocoon is the one who will guide you to the one who has the answers'. "Don't be afraid, you're a powerful dark mage. With my help, there's nothing you can't fix not even death." Which isn't particularly helpful!
What about Terry? He's been a positive influence but the thing about this relationship is that their principles and moral values aren't more challenged or well changed. Terry has always believed that she had a reason for acting the way she did and while he may have stopped her when she cheated on Rayla by giving her the real coins this time or stopped her from killing a dragon. And these are only small moments, but they don't change Claudia's mentality for all that. And although Terry killed Ibis and it hurt, he comes to the conclusion that he will continue to feel things. When Terry offers her a rest, Claudia gets defensive, not understanding the need until Terry comes up with the solution of creating a boat, the boat that knocked Viren over when he fell off the waterfall.
That's exactly what I found different about Rayllum, where their views of humans and elves gradually change, making their relationship strong. When Terry showed up in season 4, I always had this impression that Claudia wanted to replace the void she had with Terry, and that was nice. But it never lasts long. I'd compared Viren to a beacon, Terry I'd see as an anchor that kept Claudia. But this rusty anchor will gradually break.
And who will benefit most from Claudia's distress? Aaravos. Claudia is in a vulnerable state. And Aaravos will use her to further his plans. The question is, what exactly will he do? Will he reinforce her victim mentality by redirecting her resentment and anger onto innocent people? Or will Claudia, if she gets the chance to talk to him, spit out all her resentment, blaming Aaravos for her father's death but saying that the one who wasted time saving him was her?

Claudia hums softly as she enters her home. Dustin won’t be home for quite some time which means she can get her little surprise nice and situated. The much too small tank in her hands sloshes no matter how gently she moves and she can’t help but to apologize to the little critter she’s carrying.
When Dustin brought home Steve, small, beautiful, gorgeous Steve from the fair she hadn’t been sure. There were ongoing debates if mers were sentient. If the selective breeding that begot the miniature ones owned world wide was ethical. But Dustin had cradled the little plastic bag with the betta-sized Steve so gently. Had great big plans and promised to take wonderful care of the mer. And he had. Hours upon hours of research and care. Steve’s once sickly grey tail now a vibrant yellow. But he was lonely. She could tell.
Mers in the ocean and even rivers swam in schools and pods. They had more than an excitable thirteen-year-old to keep them company. Which is why she went and bought one more. She’s not entirely sure what kind he is. The pet store owner had said he was a rescue. That there was an older one that came with him, and she would be fetching that one as soon as he was healthy enough to travel.
“Don’t worry, Eddie darling, almost there.”
Eddie’s tail reminds her of those little shark-like fish she used to see in WalMart, before the tanks were taken out, smooth and sleek. Like he was made for movement. She hopes they get along. Gently she attaches the pet store tank to the little shelf inside Steve’s twenty gallon tank, the long instilled lecture of letting fish accumulate to new water never leaving her after she once shocked a bag full of fantail guppies in youthful excitement.
“Welcome to your new home, Sweetie.”

Feuilles / Endormies, Amants / Mortes
Is there such a thing as sleeping beautifully? Maybe she herself is the proof—contorted into askew positions under the blankets, drool hanging over her chapped bottom lip as she grumbles in her sleep like a bear. It was hard to get himself to fall asleep again, knowing what nightmares would often greet him as he passed through Hypnos's doorstep... but if sleep could happen in halves or quarters, it was done best while looking at the woman he loved.
Claudia burrowed her cheek further into the silk pillowcase, stirring for a moment. Her hair was a bramble of waves and loose ringlets—it had been washed and braided earlier on in the day, and now, in the cloak of evening, had wrestled itself free from its ties. Adrien took a lock between his fingers—a raw umber in the evening now bleeding into ink at night.
Looking into her eyes, closed as they were, Adrien brought the lock of hair to his face. Beneath the perfume of eucalyptus and pine, there still lingered the usual traces of her, which themselves alluded proper words. Perhaps Adrien simply wasn't as well read as he thought himself to be, and somewhere out there was a line or a phrase that captured what he wished to say quite perfectly. Perhaps one day he would come across the right thing to call Claudia: 'beautiful' didn't cut it, nor did 'stunning' or 'gorgeous' or 'ravishing'... All placations at best for his stirring heart, but each and every word fell short. How else could Adrien explain her reactions? When the right word fell off his lips, Claudia would know his affections to be true. Truer than every fact, more pious than any church, and with more conviction than every soldier in every war ever fought. She'd have to know then.
Adrien sighed, twisting the curl between his fingers, letting the frays at the end brush past his lips. His lover began to stir once more, and any sane man would think to let the lock fall from his hand and feign innocence. But Adrien was the farthest from sane, farthest from innocent, and so he just watched with half-lidded eyes in a reverent awe. Rather than discard the curl, Adrien placed a chaste kiss upon it. ...And did the first thing that came to his weary, addled mind.
"♪ C'est une chanson qui nous ressemble
Toi tu m'aimais, et je t'aimais ♪ "
He kept his voice low—Adrien had never been a singer. Perhaps it was a gift that he wasn't, for surely it would be taken advantage of otherwise. He'd be forced by his parents into further lessons, further exploitation. And, most of all... he wouldn't be able to say he saved his voice for moments such as these.
"♪ Nous vivions tous les deux ensemble
...Toi qui m'aimais, moi qui t'aimais ♪ "
And she was beautiful, truly: Something worth singing for. But more than beautiful, she was warm and real and the times his lips met hers were the only times his face felt of flesh, too, and not painted porcelain. Cold, smooth, unfeeling ceramic melting into nerves and veins and muscle beneath skin. —But he would not dare kiss her while she slept, of course, so planting another token of affection on that lock of hair would suffice.
"♪ Mais la vie sépare ceux qui s'aiment
Tout doucement, sans faire de bruit,
Et la mer efface sur le sable
Les pas d' amants désunis. ♪ "
He was pulled into an embrace before he could realize it, and it seemed that they both exhaled in tandem—long and tired, letting both their shoulders sink into the hug.
"'Des amants'," she muttered back to him, her voice groggy and crackling. Claudia wrapped her arms around Adrien silently, her fingers drumming on his shoulder blades once they reached a place to rest. "You suck at pretending to sleep."

That kid is so cringe, I swear," Carol mutters just as he reemerges with a lukewarm can. Heather and Heidi giggle in agreement. "Unveiling the uncanny secrets of Hawkins. Oh hey, he could start with the mystery of his missing teeth, how about that?"
The group erupts into peals of laughter, only that Carol’s turns into a shriek of protest pretty quickly when Steve shoves his way between Tommy and her and plucks the phone from her hand.
“Strange sightings, sudden disappearances, inexplicable happenings,” a familiar voice says. The words are hard to make out over the din of the party all around them, but Steve knows them by heart. Just like the face the voice belongs to, the one that appears on the screen just now. “The small town of Hawkins, Indiana, is riddled with mysteries, not all of them easily explained by conventional science. In this vlog, we look past the conventional and into the uncanny. Are you brave enough to uncover the answers with us? I am Dustin Henderson - and this is Henderseeks."
"More like Henderdweebs!" Tommy snorts. Steve's elbow conveniently connects with his ribcage as he closes the app and hands the phone back to a pouting Carol.
"Leave Dustin alone. He's a cool kid. And his teeth are coming in, just so you know."
"Oh, that's right," Heather pipes up over the sound of Tommy's wheezes. "Wasn't his mom your nanny or something?"
Steve finally cracks open his beer and takes a casual swig.
"Yeah," he shrugs. "She used to look after me when I was smaller. We’re still in contact."
He doesn’t mention how Claudia calls at least once a week to make sure he’s eating and sleeping enough and looking after himself while his parents are gone again. Or how Dustin pops by with casseroles and whole tupperware containers full of other dishes on the regular because his mom made too much again and he’d be doing them a favor taking the leftovers of their hands, really. How, more often than not, they’ll end up on the living room sofa watching Star Wars or whatever nerd show Dustin is currently into, bickering back and forth while the kid pesters him for advice on his long-distance relationship with that girl he met at science camp. How Steve looks forward to those visits more than anything, really, because they mean that the house won’t seem as large and empty for a few hours at least.

The girls glitter, striding glorious and coatless in the rain
In which Soren confronts Claudia and Viren Read on ao3
Soren stayed in the cave, staring at the sheep statue for longer than he could fully recall. He might’ve fallen asleep at some point, too.
The water was brighter, which meant that the sun was up at the surface. Not that he really paid attention to time passage that way; The sun was useless underwater.
What caught his attention, however, were voices. “-you, it’s fine, Claudia.” Viren said.
“Trust me, Dad, you’ll love him when we get there.” Claudia laughed.
Soren sat up, watching the entrance to the cave, before shifting to cross his arms over his chest. His fins flared, flashing irritantly.
A moment later, Viren and Claudia came in view of the cave. Claudia spotted him first, her fins flashing slightly. “Soren! There’s so-”
“What,” He interrupted, getting up. “The hell. Is wrong with you two?!”
“Hello to you too, Soren.” Viren’s expression shifted into one of mild annoyance.
“No. I’m serious. What the hell.” His ear fins flicked angrily. “You killed someone in the middle of a crowd!”
“Okay, we didn’t know he was still going to be there when it happened!” Claudia argued. “Last I knew he was locked in a closet after I drew the rune on!”
“Well, he surely wasn’t when he was lying in a pool of blood with his heart missing from his chest.”
Viren pinched the bridge of his nose. “And this is why I take care of the rune.”
Soren shook his head. “You shouldn’t have been doing it at all.”
“Here we go-” Claudia rolled her eyes while crossing her arms over her chest.
“Do you guys seriously not know how bad this is?!” Soren looked between the two of them. “Not only are you just randomly killing people, but now there’s going to be a rift between humans and mers because you killed a guy in public during the Night of the Sun! You do realize who they’re going to blame, right?” He rubbed his eyes.
Before either of them could respond, he kept talking. “Of course you do. But you don’t care.”
“Soren that’s enough.” Viren’s voice was firm, his fins flashing an angry dark red.
“You’re right, it is.” Soren picked his bag up off the floor of the cave. “I’m leaving.”
“Soren please,” Claudia had a pleading look in her eyes. “You don’t understa-”
“Like hell I don’t.” He refused to look at her, ducking past them and out of the cave.
He didn’t look back.
——————————————————————
Soren found himself back at the surface. Specifically, the small pebble beach he had met Corvus at.
He stayed mostly in the water, his tail curled under him and leaning against one of the large rocks.
He didn’t want to be human, but he didn’t want to be back underwater, either.
For the first time in his life, Soren felt like he needed air. His chest felt tight, tigher than it was supposed to be, like a net had been tightly wrapped around him.
It was suffocating, and he didn’t even know he was able to feel suffocated.
His hands skimmed over the smooth pebbles in the shallow water, picking a small handful of them up and setting them in his lap. Most of them were the same dull, slate grey, but others had more variants to their appearance. Some were rusty orange, others were more marbled, and one of them was actually a piece of light blue sea glass.
He tucked the sea glass into his bag and put the pebbles back under the water, watching them scatter.
He really needed a better place to go during times like this.
He looked up at the sky. The sun wasn’t visible, blocked by the cliff high above him, leaving the clear blue sky dark enough for him to be able to look at without immediately blinding himself.
It was… nice.
Due to the clear sky, the water around him was a magnificent cerulean in reflection of it.
He loved this time of year. Not that he saw the water's surface often enough to enjoy it like this, but when he did, it was a pleasant view.
Soren wished it could stay like this forever.
But he wasn’t a child. Hadn’t been for a long time. He knew nothing good lasted long enough for it to matter.
He glanced back at the cliff face, and his eyes caught on a figure heading down the steep stairs along the side of it.
Corvus.
It might’ve been true that nothing good lasted forever, but he’d make sure this stayed as long as he was able to make it.

croix-mer
you were so young then i heard you died in the operating room i don't know what they did to you over there but i hoped i could provide a better life than that
indominable human spirit you had a nuclear way of thinking you kicked down doors with your broken legs and closed chasms with the tenderness of peonies
everything fails so easily i really thought i could do better but then the world shows you something new something caged; something breaking free suddenly
goodbye, my little claudia your eyes too exhausted to close you hugged me still, and it struck me hard that you did more for me than i ever did for you
run along, now i know you'll survive not for me, never for me go and shatter the world in two

22 juli
Kom iväg vid 7:30.
Gick med Florian och Sandra en bit.
Tumblr media
