you were so young then i heard you died in the operating room i don't know what they did to you over there but i hoped i could provide a better life than that
indominable human spirit you had a nuclear way of thinking you kicked down doors with your broken legs and closed chasms with the tenderness of peonies
everything fails so easily i really thought i could do better but then the world shows you something new something caged; something breaking free suddenly
goodbye, my little claudia your eyes too exhausted to close you hugged me still, and it struck me hard that you did more for me than i ever did for you
run along, now i know you'll survive not for me, never for me go and shatter the world in two

"Mhm, try being stuck in a child's body and coveting every woman that comes around you once you outgrow the dolls and pretty dresses." It was hell in her opinion and while she has forgiven both of her fathers for their part in that, she still harbored anger about it. "You don't look that old, I was assuming you were in your twenties. It was a compliment, I don't care for very many people - they tend to annoy me and I try to think of interesting ways to make them stop breathing." Then she paused, yes, she still was very much the ruthless one that she had been before and perhaps she should watch her words. "Is your maker still alive?"
"yeah, vampirism is weird that way. you end at one age and you just keep aging even if you're not doing it the regular way anymore. i'm just stuck at thirty six even if i'm hundreds of years old." it might just be the most civil conversation he had with someone when he's usually not one to converse with anyone, but he's not a complete asshole. he could be nice to the young vampire since he was a big brother after all and so far, he didn't have any real reason to complain. "not a lot of people say that, so i take that as a compliment. you're not so bad yourself."

The Great Flood of 1924 or 1927?aka, a bored trivia post
s1e05 has become the boogeyman of this fanbase for events that largely occur toward the very end of it, but the flood that leads to claudia’s makeshift burials being exposed is very fascinating in terms of chronology. it speaks to how amc iwtv only slightly shifts around history to situate its immortal characters deeply within the environment of a city thats largely viewed by many, including the source material itself, as an ahistorical pleasure garden with no past or present worth caring about.
from @diasdelfuego’s s1 timeline, we have already seen an example of how the show moves with its environment, altering the release date/place of jelly roll morton’s wolverine blues from 1923 indiana to 1917 new orleans [and it be a record the fictional lestat played a role in creating — lestat aiding in a notorious trickster’s story, one of the most oblique lies on louis’s end to make lestat look more sympathetic or one of the funniest historical movearounds on the showrunners’ end, who knows].
this great flood that brings the living situation in rue royale to a head for claudia is another one of them. when lestat and louis read claudia’s diaries, they discover how shes kept careful record of the people shes buried, killed, and mutilated. they interrogate her to ask where the bodies are, and only toward the end of the confrontation does she reveal where she buried them all.
LOUIS: Where are the bodies?
CLAUDIA: Chalmette. Now get out of my room!
LOUIS: Chalmette's three feet below the river line—
CLAUDIA: So what, get out of my room!
LOUIS: What happens when the next storm comes out the Gulf?
and sequenced near immediately, in classic amc iwtv didactic fashion, the next storm comes out the gulf and unburies the bodies claudia buried on very low-lying ground.
now, temporarily exiting the show and into reality, the true flood of southern louisiana in this period occurred in 1927, when the missisippi river valley experienced heavy rainfall.
where disaster stops, and where segregationist city engineers enter, is that bankers and business leaders in new orleans lobbied the governor to intentionally broke the levee outside of new orleans proper, and so he did, ensuring that the city itself would not be flooded, but flooded out much of the low-lying areas in st. bernard parish. remember chalmette? it is in st. bernard parish.
the subsequent conversation lestat + louis have with tom anderson confirm this even more, with tom describing the number of bodies, the 56 ‘floaters’ from the ninth ward [a neighborhood in new orleans that borders chalmette], all people who have been mutilated in some fashion.
tom anderson notes this as well:
Most of the poor fools they hooked out of the bayou are former inhabitants of the Quarter, so don't be too startled if the police come knockin' on your door.
indicating that most of the people claudia killed, mutilated, and buried there were the wealthy, white neighbors of the rue royale mansion and not residents of low-lying parishes that were seen as fodder by the state of louisiana. now why didnt lestat, who was able to hypnotize an entire room of soldiers in episode 3, hypnotize the 3-4 officers that came to inspect their mansion? questions, questions… (that have very obvious answers but are secondary to this post)
referring back to the s1 timeline linked, this great flood of 1927 was either moved up to 1924, matching the decision to move up + alter the creation of the wolverine blues in episode 3 for narrative reasons, and/or refers to the odyssey of recollection, aka., how keeping exact dates and recalling the numerous historical events u have lived under after 145 or so years of misery become difficult. this post is just a fun little trivia bit + something i found to be interesting

25 Days of Ficmas 2023
Here we go again! Ficmas 2023 will officially begin Friday December 1st, 2023. I’m really excited to add in some new characters and revisit some old ones. Without further ado, here is your 2023 Masterlist.
Hope (December 1st) Bernard the Elf
The head elf is down in the dumps, and nothing can bring him out.
Childhood (December 2nd) Poly! Lost Boys
It’s Christmas time in the cave, and the Lost Boys mate is making sure that nothing ruins it for Laddie. Nothing and no one.
Elf (December 3rd) Louie Pointe du Lac
Claudia wants to partake in the Christmas cheer and dress up for their party. With her dad’s otherwise occupied, she employs the help of the only other woman in the home.
Poinsettia (December 4th) Selina Kyle
A little Christmas cheer in their dreadful New York apartment.
Stockings (December 5th) David
This was NOT what he had in mind when someone mentioned “stockings.”
Egg Nog (December 6th) Paul
Someone really should have told Paul not to drink an entire thing of egg nog before deciding if he liked it or not.
Through The Years (December 7th) Poly Louie & Lestat
Settling down on the couch, Lestat and Louie entertain their ladies with tales of their Christmas celebrations through the years.
Candles (December 8th) Tom “Iceman” Kazansky
Tom doesn’t allow a lot of personal items in his office on base, much preferring to keep his loved ones close to his heart. But he had to have a little something.
Festive (December 9th) Jack Twist
A snowy day at the ranch is the perfect setting for some winter, holiday fun.
Naughty/Nice (December 10th) Jake Gyllenhaal
The question everyone has to ask themselves every December; are you naughty or nice?
Pine cone (December 11th) Jake “Hangman” Seresin
Jake decides that he is going to show his girlfriend the lovely Seresin family holiday tradition of making a pine bonfire in the backyard.
Yuletide (December 12th) Corey Cunningham
Christmas holds some rough memories for Corey. Luckily his lover has some ways to override Christmas memories of the past.
Sugarplums (December 13th) Donnie Darko
Do sugarplums even exist? Has anyone ever had one? Donnie surely didn’t think so.
Wreath (December 14th) Rhett Abbott
For the last time; just because it’s ring toss shaped, doesn’t mean you can play ring toss with it.
Cranberry (December 15th) Pete “Maverick” Mitchell
A certain unusual flavor that has held a special spot in the Mitchell and Bradshaw family every Christmas.
Reindeer (December 16th) Robert “Bob” Floyd
A snowy landscape, total seclusion in an Alaskan cabin, and lots of wildlife. What an interesting winter vacation.
Mistletoe (December 17th) Lestat de Lioncourt
There is one tradition that Lestat loves no matter the year or who he is spending the holidays with; mistletoe.
Candy Cane (December 18th) David Loki
How do you get a workaholic in the Christmas spirit? Asking for a friend.
Snowflakes (December 19th) Miles Miller
All the guests are taken care of for the evening, and a thick blanket of snow has descended upon the El Royale. What is a couple to do?
Caroling (December 20th) Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw
Walking through the military town, the Dagger team is stopped by a small group preforming.
Handmade (December 21st) Austin Butler
Nothing made Austin happier than to be home with his girlfriend for Christmas. And they said no presents!
Angel (December 22nd) Marko
Everyone can see that Marko should have been a cherub in a past life, but one person brings that fantasy to life.
Stories (December 23rd) Dwayne
When you live for a long time and never die, you pick up some interesting tid bits of history.
Home (December 24th) Athos
Is it a place or is it a person?
Merry Christmas (December 25th) Bernard the Elf
Another year has come and gone. Another Christmas success. While he would normally jump straight into work now, someone tells him to take some time off to enjoy himself.

Idk why I randomly got curious about this, do any of your slasher families have dogs? :) or cats?
Bonus: any mythical creature or horror creature feature type pets
Ooooh thank you thank you!!!
The Frosts: The Frosts have a giant Great Pyrenees named Cane (full name Hurricane) who is very protective of the kids, though Claudia has pretty much claimed him as HER dog. He's very protective and oftentimes you can hardly see him when out with his family.
They also have three kitties. A mama tabby, Cherry, and her two babies Pumpkin and Nutmeg. Finding Cherry in the cold, Crystal took the mama in and nursed her to health, while Jack claimed they didn't need any damn cats. You will now often see Cherry loudly purring in his lap, in his recliner while he watches TLC.
The Claus's: Before his death, Santa's helldeer Mistletoe was a beloved member of the Claus family. Sigrid never met him, but she was often told stories of how magnificent of a beast the creature was.
Now Santa has his reindeer, who though he preferred Mistletoe, he loves all of them. His girls are well-treated and pampered by him, and so much as a chipped hoof will get an elf sentenced to death.
As for current pets, Hela has one. A megalodon she named "Bubble". He is fed plenty of whales, loves head scratches, and often is seen giving his mommy rides around the sea. He is safely hidden and has plenty of space to roam.
Sigrid herself has a different creature. A dragon. Given to her by her grandfather, Askr may be a baby for now but he is SIGRID 'S BABY and you can often see him on her shoulder or being fed the finest of meats.
The Frost-Claus's: Of course Mistletoe and the reindeer are often spoken in this version of the Claus's as well.
Miriam has several pets that she adores. First and foremost, there is her chonky Basset Hound that she named Alfred, though you will often hear her call him other names such as "Ally-baby-boo" "Floppsy" and "Sniffles". Then there is her other puppy, Reginald, a giant Saint Bernard who you often hear her call "My widdle boy" "Slobbers" and "Reggie-weggie-woo-woo". She spoils them both very very much. Ofc they are Jack and Santa's as well, but the moment the pups were brought home they became Miriam's.
Miriam also has several birds in her own giant enclosure for them to fly around in happily.
The Rays: The Rays have their pets galore, and I'm just gonna name the mama's pets and do my nextgens' in another post. Tiffany has a giant Mainecoon kitty cat who she named Duchess who hates Chucky with a passion.
Michelle however, has a beautiful boa constricter that she lovingly named Sunny, and often takes her out to the garden with her. Sunny also hates Chucky.
The Caputos: Eddie and Donna have a pitbull named Duke, who they got to help protect their new apartment and give him a good home. Well. The second part was good.
Duke is scared of his own shadow, a giant love bug, could hardly catch flies let alone robbers, and Donna absolutely has gotten him some jammies, all while Eddie has to defend to Chucky that "Duke is a good guard dog, I swear".
The Leprechauns: The leprechaun cave is full of different pets for the children of the home, all given by their loving parents, but the matriarch of the cave does indeed have pets of her own that her hubby Lubdan got for her.
Lucky has two pet ferrets, Silky and Satin, little tricksters who hardly leave their mommy's side. Lucky pampers her girls with their own room for them to play in, and yes, has little outfits for them.
The Tudors: The Tudors only have one pet in their ice cream shop, and that's an old, but still kicking dachshund named Waffle. He has his own little hat and is often laying in his custom bed in Gregory's truck, loudly snoring. The family loves him very much.

louis for the ask meme ❤️
favorite thing about them: his tendency to react with great fervor only to the topics that interest him, his love for literature, his reverence for life only after becoming a vampire, his emotional vulnerability and weird moral principles, his introspective and anguished narrative, his physical appearance lol i like that the author wrote him as a sort of naive dramatic romantic mc.
least favorite thing about them: he is so judgemental. (real answer: his almost total absence after iwtv. I need a trilogy slice of life from his pov lol)
favorite line: 'The great adventure of our lives. What does it mean to die when you can live until the end of the world? and what is 'the end of the world' except a phrase, because who knows even what is the world itself? I had now lived in two centuries, seen the illusions of one shattered by the other, been eternally young and eternally ancient, possessing no illusions, living moment to moment in a way that made me picture a silver clock ticking in a void: the painted face, the delicately carved hands looked upon by no one, looking out at no one, illuminated by a light which was not a light, like the light by which god made the world before He had made light. Ticking, ticking, ticking, the precision of the clock, in a room as vast as the universe'
brOTP: david (basically canon, they often live together for years between memnoch and post merrick, they seem to have a mutual admiration and sometimes david can kiss his maker's husband ahah), gabrielle (a girl can dream lol i wanted more interactions between them), armand in tg era, and i think marius would be a good friend for louis. marius likes louis right away in qotd and once louis got over his reverential fear of the roman they could often discuss about art and other interesting topics. I think louis would get along with almost all the cast
OTP: lestat
(honorable mention under the section 'emotional relationship that made me cry a lot' for louis and claudia <3)
nOTP: i don't Hate them but i've never been a fan of armand/louis
random headcanon: 1) when he was human his only sexual experiences were with prostitutes, he never had a lover. 2) he is a decent billiards player. 3) during the nineteenth century he read and enjoyed penny dreadfuls. 4) even in the present sometimes he confuses words and mixes French and English
unpopular opinion: i dont know, people only talk about show!louis (and i couldn't care less about that version of the character...) or how they hate him in the books.
i like to think that his angsty reunion with lestat at the end of iwtv happened in 1920/'30 (we know that Lestat affirms that this fact never happened and that Louis only spied him from the windows but I don't really like this explanation sooo I prefer to believe louis' version and to think that lestat lied or doesn't remember lol).
i don't know if it's an unpopular opinion but i noticed that many fans love his character development/glow up post merrick (having accepted his nature and no longer being sooo weak) but I have always been a bit perplexed about this event, in the narrative his resurrection is rushed and shallow, to me it felt basically just a pretext to awaken lestat (even his chapter at the end of pl is so...random and out of context but ok). on the other hand I'm happy that Louis got some peace and happiness after so much suffering but the (offscreen) process that led to this change disappointed me
him being the 'royal consort' in the final books gives me second hand embarrassment lol
song i associate with them: saint bernard - lincoln, california - lana del rey, his Canonic Song aka moon over bourbon street - sting
favorite picture of them: there are so many amazing fanart 🫶🏻
i love this artist - this - this
#sorry for my bad english yadda yadda. now i want to reread iwtv ahah#thank you for the ask <3#answered asks#ask#louis#tvc#personal

So about "The Santa Clauses"...
None of these shenanigans would have happened if Bernard were still in the North Pole. Like Keep Betty as head elf, Bernard already had to put up with Scott for long enough, boy needs a break. But at least have Bernard around to help keep an eye on things.
TBH in my Bernard x OC story I have in the planning stages (it takes forever for me to get things out, sorry) Bernard and Scott's Daughter!OC "Claudia" would be around to keep Scott's feet on the ground and to help socialize Scott's kids.
Like I get that this show is supposed to be light hearted and silly, but they're trying to achieve that with some really stupid acting and plots. None of this has any of the magic that the movies had is all I'm saying.

Cooler weather and falling leaves bring to mind quiet evenings in front of the fireplace, noshing warm chestnuts, drinking spiced wine, cuddling with a St. Bernard. I think I covered all the clichés.
But I want to talk about a lesser known use of chestnuts from a different region of the world: Shabbat stews with lamb and chestnuts from Turkey and from Azerbaijan.
Chestnuts have been part of the European and Asian diet for millennia. They were brought to Europe by the Romans and the Greeks, and became a staple of the local cuisine in Southern Europe, including Spain, Turkey and the Caucasus. Chestnuts served as a good source of starch at a time when wheat was scarce, before potatoes spread through Europe in the late 18th century.
Therefore it is no surprise that we can find meat stews with whole chestnuts, the way we would use potatoes today. Like Sephardi hamin de kastanyas, a simple stew made with lamb or beef, whole chestnuts and minimal flavoring agents, often just tomato paste and onion.
When I searched for the stew’s origins, I only found a couple of mentions: in the “Gizar con Gozo Ladino” cookbook by Matilda Koén-Sarano and in Claudia Roden’s “The Book of Jewish Food.” Both relate the recipe to the Sephardi community in Turkey. But although the recipe is called “hamin,” which is usually a dish that’s cooked overnight for Shabbat (like cholent), these recipes require only a few hours of cooking and are not left in the oven overnight.
I was also able to find a few similar recipes from the Caucasus, like turshu govurma, a lamb and chestnut stew from Azerbaijan. The dish often includes a sour agent, such as dried apricots, fresh sour plums or pomegranate. Jews from Baku who immigrated to Israel make it with prunes instead of the sour plums, because the latter are not available in Israel. The stew is either served over rice or cooked with rice, which is called turshu govurma pilaf or plov.
Digging further back, the 13th century anonymous Andalusian cookbook “Kitab el Tabikh,” thought to be based on Muslim and Jewish cooking of Al Andalus (the Muslim caliphate of the Iberian Peninsula) includes a recipe called Chestnuts with Lamb. The simple recipe instructs readers to cut a leg of lamb into small pieces, mix with the same amount of chestnuts, add salt and cook over coals. In the name of all food writers, I wish we could write recipes this way today!
This is only my assumption, but the dish may have moved with the Sephardim from Spain to the Ottoman Empire after the expulsion of 1492, although the dish is popular among non-Jews in Turkey as well. In Azerbaijan, it’s considered a national dish, prepared by local Jews as well, though they’d skip the butter in the original recipe for kashrut reasons.
These dishes are great examples of comfort foods from our own heritage (cold night, blazing fire and glass of wine on the side optional).
