How to grow a plant of muskmelon at home?
Muskmelon is a great fruit, especially for the hot summers in India. This fruit has a high water content and contains many rich nutrients. It is one of the best ways to overcome fatigue due to dehydration in summer. Moreover, muskmelons are easy to grow in your home garden or even in grower pots at home. The following article provides information on growing plants of muskmelon at home.
Tumblr media
Benefits of muskmelon
Muskmelon is known to provide multiple health benefits as it contains fewer calories (34 calories per 100 grams). It also contains 0.9g dietary fiber, 0.19g fat, 0.84g protein, and 8.6g carbohydrates. Given its nutritional profile, it provides the following benefits:
Blood pressure control
Improves digestive health
Keeps the body hydrated
Enhances the skin
Growing muskmelon at home
If you want to grow muskmelon plants at home, here are the following steps:
Step 1: Soil preparation
You can grow muskmelon in a garden bed or grower pots. It is advisable to soak the muskmelon seeds in water overnight to accelerate the germination process. Prepare the soil in raised garden beds to allow water drainage. If you want to grow these plants in a grower pot available at a plant nursery in Mumbai, prepare the soil with a good quality pot mix and an organic fertilizer. Ensure you mix these properly. Once the soil is ready, sow the seeds at least 1 inch deeper and ensure there is ample space between the seeds. Water the seeds and ensure the plant soil remains moist. Musk melons prefer warm weather and loamy, loose, and well-draining soil.
Tip: It is always advisable to purchase organic seeds online in India, available at a plant nursery near you.
Step 2: Watering the plants
You can see the seedlings emerge after 20 or 30 days. Transplant the seeds in the grower pots or beds and place them four to six feet apart. Ensure you water the plants regularly during summer, allowing the soil to retain moisture. Prevent overwatering the plants as it can lead to root rot. Also, add mulch to the soil, ensuring it remains moist. Reduce watering once the fruits turn ripe, allowing the fruits to become sweet and flavorful.
Step 3: Fertilizing the plants
It is also advisable to fertilize the plants once a month to encourage plant growth. Use a well-balanced organic fertilizer. You can also apply micronutrients to the plants to enhance their growth, increase yield, etc. You can also add compost manure to the soil to balance its nutrients.
Experts at the plant nursery in Mumbai suggest adding some Epsom (four to five spoons) salt, and borax powder (one tablespoon) mixed in five liters of water. Spray this mixture on the vines to make the flowers and fruits sweet.
Step 4: Preventing pests and diseases
It is possible to prevent the growth of pests or diseases on the plant using natural solutions like soap water or neem oil. You can also eliminate beetles and aphids using natural pesticides available at a plant nursery online in Mumbai.
Step 5: Harvesting the plant
The muskmelons are ready in around 100 days. The brown stems of the vines indicate that the muskmelon fruits are ready and the fruits turn tan from yellow. The fruits also release a sweet smell, indicating their ripeness. It is easy to pluck the melons from the vines with just an easy pull.
Additional tips
Muskmelons grow in the summer season or warm temperatures.
The seeds of the muskmelon plant can germinate efficiently above 20 degrees Celsius, hence, the best time to sow the seeds is from November until February.
Melons are perishable. They can only stay fresh for two to four days at room temperature and for two to three weeks when refrigerated at two to four degrees Celsius.
Final thoughts
Muskmelons are a great fruit to relish during summer as they have high water content. If you are looking for gardening supplies for growing muskmelon plants in your garden, explore Ratanshi Agro-Hortitech today!

IM LOSING MY MIND, MY BRAIN WORMS WILL NOT STOP WIGGLING ABOUT
I have a weird thing with smells... Like, I cannot like a character without having an idea of what they smell like.
ANYWAY
Dottore always has at least an undertone of blood. He always smells a little coppery. As far as I'm concerned, he smells like Blood and Bone from Sucreabeille. It has blood listed as one of the scent notes, it's literally exactly what I imagined.
Pantalone... You know this man smells like rich. I have no clue why but he just screams tobacco undertones. Definitely honey too. I'm thinking something like Honeyed Tobacco & Oud from Habibi. If we wanna do something that's ACTUALLY expensive... Tobacco Honey from Guerlain which rests at $395 without tax.
Capitano is giving spice. Maybe ginger or cardamom. Nothing complex. He just needs to spray and go, he's a busy man. I will admit, I was thinking of Jet Black Enigma while I typed this.
Childe... He was my first harbinger love and so I've had this in my head since then. Citizen Jack Absolute just makes me think of him. Melon and bergamot, are you joking? Then pineapple and amber? Vanilla and musk? Tell me it wouldn't make him seem approachable! This man is making you trust him! If you smell blood, that's gonna make you wary. Fruit? That's probably the nicest man you've ever met! There's no way he has bad intentions, right?
Anyway, I have more thoughts but I don't wanna clog up your inbox. <3
🦚
You know 🦚 anon, I genuinely know nothing about scents and perfumes and whatnot, but I wholeheartedly trust you on this and am adopting these HCs as mine too. I also looked up all the ones you said and like... wow... this is enlightening for me because I've been using whatever my mom gave me for life.
I also think Dottore constantly having a hint of blood is pretty funny because you're always trying to get him into the bath and lathering him up with all these nice fragrances, but then soon after his signature smell is lingering around anyway. I think most people just become... immune to it after a while.

Sorry, I've seen you've got a fair amount of questions and requests for Mihawk and I wouldn't want to pile anymore on you, so feel free to ignore this, given I think it's not what you usually answer anyways? I just can't get it off my mind so I'm very curious to discuss it or at least unload it somewhere.
Aside from whatever Oda may have said about the Strawhats, do you have any headcanons as to what the scents of our good boys may be? (Zoro, Sanji, Mihawk, Shanks, Buggy). For some reason I am especially fixated on Mihawk, but that may be just because I can kind of picture specific scents for the others but not for him. Guess that comes with his overall air of mystery.
Ooooh I like this one.
After light research on fragranatica, this is what I've come up with.
SMELLY SMELLS
OPLA!Sanji, Zoro, Shanks, Mihawk, Buggy
SFW Headcanons
This was actually really fun thank you
Sanji
Fun fact about restaurant workers/chefs incoming!!
Tumblr media
Especially in fine dining establishments, restaurant workers are typically either advised against or prohibited from wearing strong perfumes and colognes. It can interfere with both the kitchen staff's ability to cook and the guests' dining experience, since so much of taste comes from your sense of smell.
So fresh, light scents are what he leans toward.
Something along the line of grapefruit and negroli, just very light but still sophistocated.
Maybe with a little herbaceous hint of fresh parsley or basil, but very light. Definitely not oregano, oregano is for savages.
Overall light and flirty, because that's Sanji.
Zoro
Earthy, woody notes. Not just because he got lost in the woods—
Tumblr media
No, but I'm getting cedar wood, sandalwood, maybe a hint of leather.
On the subtler side, I guess you could say more laid back scents.
Just very earthy, not too bold, more noticeable up close.
Shanks
Rum and questionable decisions.
Tumblr media
No really though, definitely on the bolder side, there's nothing about him that isn’t bold.
I'm getting smokey, strong notes of leather and musk (particularly dragon's blood resin, one of my absolute favorite incense scents not self-projecting I swear), underlying notes of spice.
Just overall very bold, with the full intention of drawing you in for more.
Mihawk
Wine. He smells like wine. And murder.
Tumblr media
Also on the bolder side for him, but not as bold. Bit more balanced, not quite as in-your-face.
High notes of spices like anise, cardamom, corriander seed, with lighter sour citrus notes such as bergamot to balance it out.
Just overall very refined and sophistocated, sort of casually seductive.
Buggy
He's a cucumber melon kinda girl.
Tumblr media
Not even joking, straight Bath & Body Works.
Maybe even cotton candy, or he just grabs your perfume as a joke and ends up kinda digging it, who knows?
It's Buggy, though, so definitely on the flashy side.
Strong citrus and fruit notes in general. I really wasn't kidding about the possibility of cucumber, but maybe lemon zest, coconut, I'm getting very tropical vibes.
Maybe with fresh green/herb notes like bayleaf or tarragon.

each flight as a candle/perfume scent.
hi . i collect perfume and make candles + one of my favorite things to do is imagine characters and concepts as scents :) i havent actually bought anything yet to make flight themed candles, but that might be something ill do in the future?? anyways here's my headcanon / what im going to attempt combining for each flight themed candle.
EARTH FLIGHT; eucalyptus... garden sage (not the same as white sage, which is closed), and rosemary, with a hint of patchouli and nag champa. for some reason when i envision this flight, i just think very rich, incensey, and woody scents.
PLAGUE FLIGHT; musk, synthetic fly agaric / mushroomy "rotting" type scents, and dragon's blood. cherry coke that's so sweet it's sickening. like when you get it from a fountain and the carbonation to syrup levels are wrong and it's just gross.
WIND FLIGHT; bamboo! obviously, but i also think of citrus (namely lime and lemon), as well as sweet florals + aloe cucumber. with the smallest, lightest hint of green tea.
WATER FLIGHT; kelp, obviously, incense accord, and black river musk, balanced out with white tea and lotus. this one seemed too obvious and i want to lean in more with the whole water dragons prophesying thing.
LIGHTNING FLIGHT; ozone, ozone, ozone all the way. sharp and sour, combined with lots of smoke and metallic accord, and the slightest taste of pink pepper and pineapple.
ICE FLIGHT; musk and wood! pine tar, to be exact, with an edge of leather or cashmere. not the soft, sweet candle kind but the type where you go to the curiosity shop or into the attic and you bury your face in a pile of rabbit and fox and mint pelts.
SHADOW FLIGHT; wilting dark roses that have gone a bit bad but aren't moldy. dark leaves, sweet resin, lichen, and moist woods... with a bit of mud. i imagine this one to be complex and damp. foresty scents but without the greenery and sharpness.
LIGHT FLIGHT; white amber, beeswax, and the softest trace of honey, very neat and upscale, with the lightest hint of something more -- sandalwood, to be exact. i'd almost want to put ozone and smoke in it...
ARCANE FLIGHT; old, dusty books with an audible scent that hits you in the face when you open them up. dark fruits, like pomegranate and strawberries, raspberry, plum... and deep, heavy incense. frankincense and myrrh. and a bit of black tea!
NATURE FLIGHT; strawberry musk, lots of fruit and herbs and greenery - think: melon, figs, rosemary, apples.. rounded out with fresh and sharp green grass and soft dirt.
FIRE FLIGHT; sharp spicy notes! anise, cinnamon, cardamon, pink peppercorn. lots of brimstone, lots of smoke. there's no sweetness here, and honestly, i would be a bit disappointed if this combination didn't sting my nose a bit, ha.

Melon Day
Melon Day takes place on the second Sunday in August. This year, it takes place on August 13. On this special day, we celebrate cantaloupes, galias, and all the other muskmelons, specifically those belonging to the people of Turkmenistan. If you’re like us, you may have confused watermelons for melons at least once in your life, however, these two fruits are very different even though they stem from the same family. Melons, particularly muskmelons, have an important agricultural heritage and are the pride of the people of Turkmenistan, a country located in Central Asia. Today, they honor not only their well-groomed muskmelons but a fine crossbreed, named after their first president, the Turkmenbashi melon.
History of Melon Day
They are hard, musky, and netted on the outside, but soft, succulent, and orange or white on the inside. Today, all the hype is about muskmelons, these juicy fruits that are not to be confused with any other kind of melon. We often find ourselves placing all melons in the same category, but this is an oversight on our part. Muskmelons are quite different from all other melons, and this can be attributed to their physical features and taste. They typically have smooth, ribbed, wrinkled, or netted exteriors with sweet flesh that is yellow or white. Some examples of muskmelons are cantaloupes, honeydews, and galias.
Although we are celebrating all kinds of muskmelons today, Melon Day originated in Turkmenistan and holds cultural significance for its people. For those who may not know, Turkmenistan is the least populated country found in Central Asia. They are known for their beautiful culture, heritage, and also their delicious melons. Turkmenistan is responsible for approximately 400 of the melon varieties we have today. They grow and cultivate muskmelons in great numbers, and this has been an integral part of their history and culture for decades.
Melons hold such importance that one of the crossbreed products is named after their first president, Saparmurat Niyazov, who is also the creator of this holiday. He preferred to be known as ‘Turkmenbashi,’ which means ‘leader of the people.’ The Turkmenbashi melon is revered for its aroma, taste, and hefty size.
Melon Day timeline
2400 B.C.Picture Perfect
The first record of muskmelon is traced back to this time, on an Egyptian picture of funerary offerings.
500 A.D. — 1500 A.D.Melons Travel North
Muskmelons are introduced to China and other Asian countries in the Middle Ages.
1994The Best Muskmelons
The first president of Turkmenistan, Saparmurat Niyazov, establishes Melon Day.
2004A Fruit of Paradise
The president of Turkmenistan refers to the Turkmen melons as the source of their pride and as a fruit of paradise in his address to farmers.
Melon Day FAQs
Is Melon Day a public holiday?
Melon Day is a national, public holiday in Turkmenistan. Although this holiday is now acknowledged in a few other countries, it only remains a public holiday in its founding federation. Citizens are not required to go to work or school on this day and are encouraged to join in the holiday’s festivities.
Why are they called muskmelons?
Muskmelons were given their name based on their aroma. These fruits have a particularly flavorful smell when ripe. ‘Musk’ is the Persian word for ‘perfume’ and is the perfect description for the sweet aroma of ripe muskmelons.
Are all muskmelons sweet?
Muskmelons have hard, smooth, ribbed, or netted skin with a flavorful musk-like taste and aroma. Their flesh is sweet-tasting and often orange in color with high water content and nutritional value.
Melon Day Activities
Eat a muskmelon
Make something with a muskmelon
Attend the festival
How else can you celebrate Melon Day, other than by eating some delicious melons? Casaba, canaries, and honeydews are a few of the sweet possibilities you can enjoy on this holiday, and remember to share them with your family and friends.
Muskmelon can be eaten in several ways. One way is by including it in desserts. You can make melon boats, fruit salads, and a traditional Chinese dish called Glutinous Rice Fresh Melon and Coconut Roll. Go online and see what tasty dessert you could make today with one, two, or even three varieties of muskmelon.
If you find yourself in Turkmenistan on Melon Day, join in for the festivities! The people organize several festivals, events, and even competitions to commemorate their cultural holiday. You can also take some time out, explore, and see what the city has to offer.
5 Fun Facts About Cantaloupes
It’s named after a city
Low in calories, high in vitamins
They win the popularity contest
They have flowers
Ripe ones are easy to detect
The name ‘cantaloupe’ was derived from Cantalupo, Italy, which was the first place where the seeds arrived from Armenia in the 16th century.
An average-sized cantaloupe will have just approximately 100 calories and contain a bounty of vitamins.
Cantaloupes are the most popular melons in America.
Cantaloupe plants produce small yellow flowers while developing.
When a cantaloupe is ripe, its vines simply detach from the fruit and its rind and the netting turns beige or cream underneath.
Why We Love Melon Day
It’s a delicious holiday
It encourages us to eat fruits
It’s part of Turkmenistan’s cultural heritage
Who doesn’t love a holiday where we can indulge in sweet-tasting melons eaten on their own or as part of a dish or dessert — the flavorful options are endless!
Many of us don’t eat as much fruit as we should, but a holiday like this allows us to have our fill. This day encourages us to eat more fruits, and not just any fruit, but one of the sweetest you could come across — muskmelons.
This holiday is not only important to the history, culture, and people of Turkmenistan, it was also established by them. Melon Day allows us to appreciate the wonderful fruit, gives us a sneak-peek into Turkmenistan culture, and allows us to learn more about the people.
