Shrink Arinn and give to Shae :)
Shrink Ray
CW: tiny whumpee, demon whumpee, captivity, experimentation, lab whump, shrunk, tail whump, broken bones, dislocation, caretaking, pain medicine, passing out, open ended
----
"What a rare one you are," the self-proclaimed scientist muses. He looms over Arinn, who is now mere inches tall and lying terrified on the lab table.
The man takes the demon's tail between his fingers in a way he probably considers gentle, but to Arinn it's like being clamped in a vise. When he cries out and tries to squirm out of his grip, it only tightens. Brittle bones snap like twigs and Arinn wails at the top of his tiny lungs.
"Where to put you..."
To Arinn's horror, his captor lifts him from the table. Even at this size his weight is too much for his fragile, broken tail. It pulls taut and pops as several joints dislocate at once. The pain makes him dizzy and for a moment he forgets to breathe.
By the time he is set inside a tank, Arinn is almost hyperventilating. He can't move his tail, can only feel it throb and twitch on the ground. A shadow falls over him when the man puts the enclosure's lid back on and locks it tight. Then the whole room darkens as he turns out the lights and leaves.
The moment he is gone Arinn hears the patter of tiny footsteps approaching. Through his blurry vision he just barely makes out a figure kneeling beside him.
"Are you okay?"
Arinn can't answer. He gasps and reaches a trembling hand for his tail, wanting to hold it, soothe it, keep it safe...
His cellmate gasps too.
"Oh...that looks bad..."
Fingers that aren't his own touch Arinn's tail and he shakes his head urgently, whimpering "ah - please d-don't - it h-hurts..."
The touch disappears with a soft 'sorry!' from its source.
"I'm Shae," says that same little voice. "He caught me, too. What's your name?"
Arinn takes a few deep breaths. "Arinn."
"Hold on, Arinn...I have something that will help..."
Footsteps fade away again. Trembling, Arinn curls up on his side and watch as the little creature hurries into a fake, decorative cave-like structure. Inside sits half a pill. Shae chips some of it off with a sharp pebble and collects it into a cup the size of a thimble. Arinn closes his eyes for a moment, and when he opens them again Shae has returned to his side.
"Can you sit up? I have medicine. For the pain."
Slowy, carefully, Arinn props himself up and leans back against the wall of the tank. He glances down at his tail and touches it gingerly. Then he looks at Shae, taking in his weary but kind face for the first time. Something about him eases Arinn's frayed nerves. He hands Arinn the cup full of water mixed with the crushed pill.
"It's human strength, so it's strong," he warns.
"Good," Arinn breathes. He drinks the whole thing in just a few gulps. Panting, he wipes his mouth on his arm and leans his head back against the glass.
Shae sits beside him and folds his hands in his lap.
"You'll be okay. He doesn't hurt us on purpose...usually. He just...collects us."
Arinn tips his head to one side to look at him.
"How long have you been here?" he asks.
"...too long." Shae pulls his knees up to his chest. "I don't even know what season it is."
"Spring."
"...then, almost a year."
Arinn feels sick at the thought. This is only one tank of many that take up shelves lining the whole room. He looks around and can make out other small figures in most of them. Some peer back at him from their own prisons, their gazes hollow and hopeless.
Alex will find me, he thinks. He squeezes his eyes shut and focuses on that thought, forcing himself to hang onto it no matter how impossible it seems.
Soon the medicine kicks in, bringing sweet relief. All the tension eases from him. He starts to droop to one side, and Shae catches him and eases him into his lap. He holds Arinn as he falls asleep.

@selenophilephile So since you’re a medic nin, does that mean I can come to you for cough treatment whenever? Like, weekly? Semi daily? Daily? *Coughs*
I’m no specialist, Hayate. I’m a Field Medic. If it gets bad properly you need to go see a hospital doctor. But I can reduce the inflammation and soothe the irritation in your lungs when nothing else is helping before you go to the hospital, or on a particularly bad day in general. I can also clear airways in a pinch but that’s a T&I tactic after waterboarding someone and not the most pleasant.
Back to your question though: swing by my place and if I’m off duty or even during the day on my lunch break if you need it and I’ll do what I can.

I'm on the tail end of physical therapy for a broken leg that required surgery. It made me wonder if there was anything interesting in Ancient Egyptian medicine that you'd read about treating broken bones.
Oh, certainly! Ancient Egyptian treatments for broken bones were very similar to our methods nowadays - that is, they splinted and immobilised fractures after reduction. The treatments for a broken jaw and a broken nose in the Edwin Smith Papyrus (the largest collection of surgical treatments among the medical papyri) are in fact the exact same a few millennia later. For a broken nose in particular, the physician put two rolls of linnen moistened with oil into the nasal passages to keep the shape of the nose intact after bandaging and during healing. Nowadays, we use vaseline gauze the same way.
There's an interesting case in the ESP where the practice of a closed reduction is actually described. This is case 35, a fracture of the clavicle:
You should prostrate him [on his back], [with] something folded which is in [between] his shoulder blades. You should spread out his two shoulders in order to stretch apart his two clavicles until that fracture falls into its place.
This is, again, a practice that has changed very little over time. Interestingly this case does also describe a splinting, but a splinting that seems incongruent with the actual type of fracture:
You should then make for him two splints of linen, and place them, one of them to the inside of his upper arm, and the other to the under site of his upper arm. You should bind it with imrw* and treat him afterwards with honey every day until he recovers.
That would have done very little to stabilise the clavicle. However, the next case, number 36, deals with a fracture of the humerus. This case first details a reduction, but that reduction is the exact same as the preceding one in case 35, just with the term for humerus substituted for the term for clavicle. A fractured humerus is normally set through the use of traction, and then splinted in the way described in case 35.
Nunn, among others including myself, is of the opinion that this is a scribal error where the splinting for case 36 was appended to case 35, and the reduction for case 36 was incorrectly copied from 35.
But overall, lots of evidence that nothing much changed about the setting and treatment of broken bones!
*We haven't been able to precisely determine the meaning of the ingredient imrw so far. As a term it's only found in the ESP and it is likely some type of mineral ingredient since it's written with the determinative for mineral substances. Nunn suggests it may be an equivalent of plaster of Paris used for splinting as we do nowadays, which would be supported with the phrase "you should bind it with imrw" in case 35. I don't agree with that, not only because "bind it with [x]" sees common use elsewhere for any number of poultices and bandaging in the medical papyri, but also because imrw is used in the treatment of other cases that don’t deal with fractures, such as case 15; a slashed cheek with damage to the zygomatic bone. The Grundriss der Medizin der Alten Ägypter simply lists it as "an unknown mineral substance". Brawanski wants to read it as an "astringent bandage" with the note that the determinative could be ambiguous, so he suggests a reading of a bandaging with metal shavings. Meltzer renders it as “alum(?)”, based on similarities to the Coptic term for alum. Personally, I think it's likeliest a mineral/metallic substance, one that possibly inhibits bacterial growth, akin to e.g. red ochre, and which was used in bandaging and poultices.
Good luck with the rest of the physical therapy and rehab! Surgery-requiring fractures are a nsw.t=f m pH.wy=s

i just saw a tik tok of a nurse explaining what to do in case of hyperkalemia. the first comment on the video?
"good thing im in psych cuz i dont get all of that" and then a bunch of people agreeing
like...you do realize...the psych ward is STILL A WARD IN A HOSPITAL, psych patients STILL DESERVE AND NEED THE BASIC CARE ALL OTHER FACILITIES PROVIDE, and electrolyte imbalances ARE something to watch out for (can be the underlying cause for acute psych symptoms like confusion)?????
im so tired of psychiatry being undervalued like this, and seeing people like that working in the system with vulnerable patients makes me sick

Osteoarthritis, possible bone spurs, at least one tendon nodules, and ran out of pain meds. What do I do? KT Tape
Yes, the cheap KT tape at Walmart actually works. Sometimes, it is better than the more expensive tape but only lasts about three days when water is involved, like a shower.
Tumblr media
[ID: To tape for swelling in any area of the body, follow these steps:
To begin, start with one fan-cut
Apply the anchor proximally to the area of swelling, ideally close to a lymphatic drainage point.
Remove the backing of the kinesiology tape up to the tail ends of the fan strip.
Apply the tails over the swollen area at 25% tension.
Rub the kinesiology tape down onto the skin to ensure optimum adhesion.]

Pinched disc vs. vertebral compression: what's the difference?
Often confused, a slipped disc and a vertebral compression are two quite distinct back problems.
What is a slipped disc?
- A worn disc: The disc between two vertebrae loses height
- Causes: Wear and tear due to age and repeated strain
- Symptoms: Pain, stiffness, sometimes sciatica.
What is vertebral compression?
- A fracture: a vertebra collapses in on itself
- Causes: osteoporosis, trauma, disease
- Symptoms: pain, deformity of the spine.
Why is it important to know the difference?
- Treatment: Each problem requires specific treatment
- Progression: The long-term consequences are not the same.
To sum up:
- Slipped disc: Problem with the intervertebral disc
- Compressed vertebra: Fracture of a vertebra.
If you suffer from back pain, consult a health professional for a precise diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Hi 👋 my 🍉 dear ⚘supporters ❤
I am a Palestinian youngman of 26 yrs , from the besieged Gaza, seeking to find safety and peace for my eight_member family 👪 that has been in very harsh and tough situations for almost a year. Since the outbreak of the war, we have been forcibly displaced to the south of Gaza, in the hope of finding a safer place, but the fact is that there is no safe place in Gaza. After we had lost all our possessions and belongings like our house and our livelihood_ source business were destroyed and damaged 💔 due to the annihilation of our neighborhood.
Tumblr media
This photo was taken to the remains and ruins of our house. Nothing has been left for my family to live in nor a source to live on. Now we are living in small tents ⛺ in streets lacking all means of a house.
Tumblr media
We re leading unbelievably difficult circumstances due to this injust war on Gaza. Also, We are painfully suffering from the bad living conditions because we lack all necessities and essentials of our daily life. Food, clean drink water, medicine 💊, health care , and other necessities have become scarce and unattainable and this adds to our sufferings and hardship.
Tumblr media
a photo taken to show how harsh and tough our life is. hours of waiting in queue to get some gallons of water for the daily use. This is driving us crazy and insane .
Tumblr media
What adds to our tragedy is that we wait long hours just to get a little water that can't meet our daily use.
Tumblr media
It is also sad to have a sister suffering from chronic diseases such as bone atrophy , yet no health care exists.
so I am asking you my dear donors to help us get out of this painful tragedy and hardship. You can help my family by donating whatever you can or by sharing 🙏 my messages so that my goal can be reached sooner. Your help is essential for people in dire needs and awkward situations.
yours

I understand the concern but osteopath or a D.O.s ARE fully licensed and trained medical professionals. To be licensed they must go through the same criteria and must meet the same standards for practicing medicine. They are given the same training as M.D.s just with the additional osteopathic medical courses. They are absolutely fine to go to for other concerns as they are trained doctors and there is no pronounced difference between DOs and MDs in their care & cost.
Periodic reminder that you should never trust a chiropractor with your body under any circumstances
#They also didn’t mention that the dude who is claimed to be the founder chiropracty above is actually the founder of osteopathy.#chiropracty has existed long before him#the reason he developed his theory of ‘if you move thing to the right spot in the body you can cure anything’#is because at the time medical doctors were feeding people arsenic. opium. mercury. etc. and most of the time made things much worse#so he went ‘I want to make things better’ and made his own theory of medicine.#and it’s DEVELOPED SINCE THEN! ITS NO LONGER THE SAME THING NOR DO PRACTICIONERS HOLD THE SAME BELIEFS#the practices of doctors and osteopathic practitioners were initially separate but are for the majority one & the same with one#who is medically able to do a massage and chiropractic help when it is genuinely necessary#it helps that osteopathic practitioners modern day unlike chiropractors they actually are taught about the potential dangers and issues that#can arise using osteopathic treatment. if you have an issue for bones#osteopathy isn’t for you. but if you have an issue with muscles tendons or nerves then they can help a lot#good part of their practice is essentially occupational therapy. using different instruments to help with movement and to ease pain#osteopaths often get a bad name but they’re medical practitioners too that are fully liscenced but the stigma against them can often be very#harmful to them as people think DOs are lesser to MDs in training.#oftentimes when people think they need to go to a chiropractor they need physical therapy.#it’s like saying that bc it was thought Chinese cupping therapy could cure every disease if you put it on the right spot#and just because that is known to be false now that it absolutely has zero value in medical practice. it draws blood from deep in the tissue#and brings it up through the muscles and it helps in a variety of treatments for various tendon muscle and nerve disorders#chiropracty is bs as said before bc it’s cheap and done by a NON LISCENCED PRACTITIONER WHO CLAIMS THEY CAN TREAT EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING#osteopathy on the other hand has a genuine place in medical practice for physical and occupational therapy#Billy talks in the tags#Billy talks about medicine
