I’m no specialist, Hayate. I’m a Field Medic. If it gets bad properly you need to go see a hospital doctor. But I can reduce the inflammation and soothe the irritation in your lungs when nothing else is helping before you go to the hospital, or on a particularly bad day in general. I can also clear airways in a pinch but that’s a T&I tactic after waterboarding someone and not the most pleasant.

After brushing so close to it so young, Tae felt its presence everywhere - especially after graduating the academy and having to face it on the front lines, even under the guidance of his sensei. His older sibling had lost both parents before he could meet their father, and hell if he could remember his own mother's face.

Its cold hand is a constant staple in the life of a shinobi, so Tae has no reason to fear it since it comes for them all. No matter how powerful, every great ninja in history succumbed to the chill of death. Orochimaru was driven mad in the pursuit of escaping it. Not that he felt bad for the sick bastard.

His only request was that it's tender with him after the pain of his flesh ceases trying to keep him tethered to the mortal world. That it's kinder than man.

Paired with Taeru's pesky habit of making sure the missions he was put in charge of succeeded at any cost but his comrades, he's developed a bit of a taste for self-sacrifice.

A chill went up Namiashi's spine when he heard his childhood friend's voice pierce through the trees from where he ran. His blood ran cold on arrival, watching Genma fuss over his younger brother's weakening pulse, his quick, shallow breathes and the way Tae's eyes seemed to glaze over.

Iwashi was already present, not much older than the dying boy before him and yet he was expected to perform the Flying Thunder Formation with his seniors in an attempt to save him. He'd never seen Shiranui show this much emotion before, let alone this upset, but Raidou was familiar with the panic, the tightness of his jaw around that senbon in an attempt to steel himself.

There was only so much Genma's cursory healing as a field medic could do against the poison circulating his system without the proper equipment, after all.

Iwashi felt sorry for him, though, the poison was strong enough that it looked like his skin around the point of entry was already necrotizing.

After several grueling hours of treatment at the closest hospital they could find, the wayward screaming every now and then until the patient's throat was raw, and the nausea his body produced to flush every trace of toxin from his system, Shiranui emerged haggard. Genma proved to be invaluable as someone who could produce an antidote, but he couldn't do much by way of actually helping his brother's healing along.

In the morning, Tae admitted how he'd gotten there in the first place.

"Nakamura-san had the documents so I gave her the antidote and told Hokuto to head home with her. We were both poisoned and I didn't have the energy to get on Hoku's back." Tae mentioned weakly, recalling the way his squad mate had looked at him when he jabbed the serum into her thigh and told his summoning owl to fly as high and fast as he could to Konoha.

"Did Raidou and Iwashi already leave? I sensed their chakra yesterday." He asked between coughs, prompting the older nin to pour him a glass of water. "Surprised you could make out much of anything then, kid, considering how quickly your brain was turning to soup. They left earlier to catch up with our intended squad. 'm staying until backup arrives."

"I've caused you trouble again, haven't I." Genma's brows only furrowed further, helping his brother take small sips to ease his throat.

"Don't talk. Don't waste the energy."

"I'm sorry. I was prioritizing the mission. I'm sorry."

It's a soft, remorseful sound that stitches thorns between Genma's ribs, sinks the sting of citrus in an open wound into his lungs. He wants to be mad, furious that Tae still won't prioritize his own safety. Shinobi rules be damned, he can hear his baby brother wheeze from a full night of coughing and throwing up stomach acid between trying to stifle any noise he'd make in pain.

It wouldn't kill the kid to be a little selfish, by even just a bit. Especially with his life on the line.

Please, please, start being a little more selfish.

"That is so hot!" Ino Yamanaka squealed loudly. "Do me! Do me!"

There had been a price for everything she loved in her life. She'd endured ridicule to figure out what was the right kind of attention and struggled for years to become the respected Kunoichi she was today. But there was one thing Sakura Haruno had yet to overcome on her chosen path: loud, obnoxious blondes. She rolled her eyes at her best friend and repressed the shudder she always felt coming when Ino got too excited. "Do you have any idea how that sounded, coming out of your mouth?"

They were in a crowded restaurant, enjoying their respective lunch hours, and every ninja and civilian in the area had just stopped what they were doing and turned to stare at them. And with Ino's reputation, Sakura could see their suspicious (and in some cases salivating interest – Genma Shiranui for one) minds musing on the implications of the blonde's words.

"Ino!" She snapped hoarsely, when her friend just ignored the attention she'd brought down on them both. "Keep your voice down."

"Oh, relax forehead." Ino spun around on her chair and addressed the other customers. "I wasn't talking about sex."

'Why am I not surprised people thought that was what she meant? The girl has no shame.'

In all the years she'd known Ino, Sakura had never seen her hold back what she was thinking. She heatedly told her friend to kindly shut her mouth, and once they were done with their lunch, the blonde made her promise to show her the new technique she'd learnt after they were both done for the day. She wasn't really asking, as Ino laced her words with a hidden threat to embarrass Sakura in public with a worse spectacle than she'd just endured.

Ino was very interested in what Sakura had picked up.

It was no big deal really, but it opened up a world of possibilities. She'd first felt it happen while sitting next to Naruto. Her fear and confusion was quickly dismissed when she realised he'd been reacting to the approaching figure of Hinata Hyuuga. His heart rate had increased with every step Hinata took toward them and if she hadn't been fixated on the thrumming of his pulse, not to mention its affect on his chakra system, from a purely medical point of view, Sakura might've gone deaf at the sound. She was glad that the idiot had finally noticed Hinata, but it had taken the pinkette hours to get rid of her headache after that.

Lady Tsunade had been quite interested in Sakura's idea of decreasing diagnosis time by learning how to detect a patient's heart rate before all the instruments could be hooked up to them, or her chakra inserted into their system. Sometimes, though not often really, the invading chakra of a medic can hasten some injuries – especially those connect to the cardiovascular and pulmonary organs (heart, veins, and lungs). On top of that, in the heat of battle, she didn't always have the chakra to waste on a diagnosis. A medic's duty was to stay out of the fight and heal as needed, but it didn't always go according to plan.

It turned from a strange little side project to a weekend of educational fun. Sakura had picked it up rather quickly and experimented on her mentor after a few rounds of sake (not to mention Shizune when the brunette woman was talking to or about Genma Shiranui).

Naruto had been her first test outside of controlled conditions.

'And then I just had to go blab to Ino!'

Now the girl wanted in and there was no wrangling this mare once she decided to buck. She was especially interested in what had happened shortly after Sakura's run-in with the Naruto/Hinata marching band. Sakura hadn't thought about anyone romantically since Sasuke, but there was a certain brown haired Hyuuga who had noticed her at least.

– Heartbeat –

It was an hour after leaving Naruto and Hinata… alone, in the woods (she mentally shivered at that), that Sakura decided to visit the Konoha Library, where at least there would be some peace and quiet. She had thought Neji would be more comfortable in the massive library in the Hyuuga estate, but there he was, standing next to an aisle of medical volumes, his arms crossed over his chest as he stared apathetically at the words on their spines.

Sakura waved as she walked toward him. "Hiya Neji!"

And of course, he offered his usual: a formal greeting complete with the correct suffix and even voice she knew. It pissed her off, but more than anything, she wanted him to loosen up. Sakura had the perfect thing, and winked at him seductively.

"Aaww, Neji-pyon!" she teased, giggling softly. "It's okay to admit you're excited to see me." [pyon: slang for calling someone their sweetie]

And then… there it was... she couldn't believe it. The stoic ice cube was normally so calm and collected. But Sakura was counting his heartbeat and was, for the first time since learning this technique, blushing at the revelation it had brought her.

He hadn't moved an inch as she walked toward him. He didn't bat an eyelid as she calmly asked him to move out of the way. He didn't respond other than to shift slightly, indicating there was enough room and he wasn't moving – he did look quite comfortable when stiff as a board. Sakura was just trying to get past him to grab the medical text book behind him on the shelf when she sensed it: his heart started hammering in his chest and it didn't stop until she was out of his personal space. His face and stance showed nothing of his accelerated heart rate however, and a part of her wondered if it had actually happened. His voice as he said his formal goodbyes before he left gave nothing away.

Sakura thought she had been imagining things until it happened again. Later that day, she'd visited the Hyuuga estate to ask Hiashi if she could sneak a peek at some of his medical volumes like he'd promised via Tsunade four months ago. Neji was the only one in Hiashi's office, and calmly told her the old man was off training with Hanabi and didn't want to be disturbed… the slippery arse. So Sakura was demanding that Neji talk some sense into his uncle while standing a foot away from him, pointing a finger at his eyes (those… mesmerising… gorgeous… eyes…), when the beating interrupted her tirade.

Neji half frowned at her abrupt halt and his eyes widened slightly at the blush lining her cheeks.

'Fuck this,' she snapped at herself.

Sakura did the only thing she could think of – she pulled him into a tight hug and whispered "god, you're hot" before making a mad dash for freedom.

– Heartbeat –

Needless to say, Sakura was embarrassed. But it also offered up the perfect opportunity for giving her love life a kick in the arse. Ino was still badgering her about teaching her the technique but Sakura couldn't face her right now. She wanted to see how far she could take this (whatever this was) with Neji… Ino would forgive her if she found out why she was skipping out on her… right? Tsunade was out on one of her binges and Sakura had a messenger "summon" Neji. She felt no qualms about pretending he'd been summoned by the Hokage and then thoroughly seducing him.

The room was empty when Neji knocked, was bade to enter and did as he was told. "Lady Hokage, what–"

"Neji-pyon," Sakura whispered from behind him, closing the door. "You and I have some unfinished business, starting with this."

Neji felt his body go still… the knowing look on her face gave her away: she knew how he felt. But how? She was pulling on his shirt – the Hyuuga Kimono he'd adjusted for his missions as a part of Team Guy. He swallowed heavily, realising the only article of clothing Sakura was wearing was a pink satin robe.

"W-where is the Hokage?" He asked, getting a strange feeling about this.

'Okay,' she thought, clenching her fists tightly. 'Let's bite this in the butt, shall we?'

Sakura ignored his question and pouted. "Wouldn't you rather kiss me, Neji-pyon?"

She smirked as he gripped her tighter, taking the bait. She closed her eyes, heat pooling in her stomach as Neji kissed her, pushing her roughly against the wall.

Fifteen minutes later, an angry blonde stormed into the Hokage's office, and Sakura started, terrified of being caught by her shishou. The woman was supposed to be out for the rest of the afternoon! But it wasn't Lady Tsunade who'd almost knocked the door off its hinges.

"FOREHEAD! I HOPE YOU'RE READY TO BE HUNG AND QUARTERED! YOU'RE SO–"

Ino stopped midsentence, taking in the scene before her: Sakura and Neji, flustered, wrapped up in each other's arms, and naked on Tsunade's desk. A quirk of her lips told the pinkette what was coming next…

"YEAH-HEH! SAKURA FINALLY GOT LAID!"

Hello and welcome to Day 7 of "Let's Explore My Plot Bunnies"

Sorry for posting this a bit late today, I was busy, and the idea was a bit complicated to put in words. (Don't you love when your brain gives you only vivid images but abandons you when you need to describe them? Yeah, me too)

The fic idea I wanna explore today is actually a collab fanfic between me and my friend @yokomisaki.

This is a Canon Divergence AU for Naruto that both of us came up with around *checks notes* July 13th, 2023. It actually started with me saying that "Shiranui Genma is definitely a motherhen to anybody that he deems in need of motherhening" and that evolved into "Shiranui Genma would make a great Jounin Sensei" before it settled into "Make Shiranui Genma a Jonin Sensei and then throw Naruto at him cause god, does the kid need someone like him in his life".

I came up with a title for this fic, and we already started writing it. I have done a small part of the prologue so far, but we have chapters planned out (just not written out yet).

Title of the fic:

"The late dog always barks at the closed door"

(Yes, it is a jab at Kakashi's habit of being late. Is it mean of me to do this? Yes. Do I care? Not really. I feel he needs a bit of a reality check for that; like, you can be late for your own personal meetings but NOT FOR A FREAKING OFFICIAL MEETING)

Synopsis/Description:

Shiranui Genma is many things, but he is not a teacher. At least not until the Hokage decides that, in the wake of one Jounin Sensei's death, he is to take a team of 3 freshly graduated children under his wing. The good news is that he is not obligated to pass them. The bad news is that he actually likes the brats - despite the fact that he knows only headaches will follow him now.

In the one year he had the brats for a lot changed, including what one of his students wanted to do with her life as a shinobi. Now, Genma is required to get a new Gennin to make up for the student (and she is still his student dammit; no official paper will ever change that) that decided to pursue the career of "not-battle active medic-nin".

When it was time for him to choose, he recognized a certain hyperactive blonde as part of the rooster he could choose from - which is weird since Hatake seems to want him. So then why was not the kid already spoken for?

After some consideration, Genma came up with his answer.

"Hokage-sama, I want to take Uzumaki Naruto as the new member for Team 3."

Some details:

I know Team 3 is supposed to be Might Guy, Neji Hyuuga, Tenten, and Rock Lee; however, I have always believed them to be team 9, so it is really hard for me to correct that belief. Thus, just for the sake of my brain, Genma's team is Team 3, while Guy's team is team 9.

This fic will have (so far) 4 OCs: Kawamura Chizuru (Part of Team 3 - retires from active duty but is still considered part of the team by Genma); Nomura Akira (Part of Team 3); Higashi Kyoka (Part of Team 3); Sakaki Ichirou (the boy that takes Naruto's place in team 7)

Yes, at Naruto's graduation team, because he also got to graduate, there was one person that would have to be put in another team as the numbers wouldn't add up (think instead of 21 kids aka 7 teams of 3, there are 22 kids that graduated)

We have most of the plot for the OG series already thought out; the Shippuden part is more complicated (because of what we do with the pervious part)

Naruto is getting the darn support system that he is in need of in this AU

And I am not overlooking Sasuke either. Without Naruto around to push him, Sasuke will realize that he is pretty much isolated (thank you Konoha Elders and Teacher from the Akademy (Not Iruka), you did a fantastic job *note the sarcasm*). Cause really, the main reason why it didn't look like Sasuke was isolated by others (and instead it showed he chose isolation) is because Naruto is like 10 people in one presence-wise. And because I am taking Naruto away from the picture, I raise you this idea: Get Raidou (or any competent adult) to interact with Sasuke. Sasuke needs more competent adults in his life at this point

Everyone - and I mean EVERYONE - is getting character development. Even just some characters that appear for a few times. And I am dragging Kakashi from his brooding corner, kicking and screaming if I have to. (And yes, that includes villains, too. *looks at my brain planned storyline* And summons get the same treatment as well)

Another thing: Political Sub-plot. Ya think that with all the importance they put on, not only rank but missions that get you in different countries, this show would have more political talk; but no. So we are bringing Naruto into politics. Inter-village Politics, to be precise. Naruto, prepare your Talk no Jutsu.

Also, Fuuinjutsu Made-Up Theory Stuff. Just because I can and I will (I am in charge of Fuuinjitsu stuff). Genma is making Naruto learn them from scratch.

We are addressing the fact that the Shinobi Academy of Konoha was turned into a "civilian playground" because of the Konoha Elders. (It's way worse than you can think if Genma makes Naruto re-learn stuff from zero) - there is no way any fight will have some bullshit pop-quiz about History or Chakra Theory. How in the world are those kids alive?

We also have Orochimaru Plot™️. A whole ton of it too.

We also get into the "Preparation to Take a Life on the Battlefield" thing. Because people there seem to not do it anymore. Like, get the kids to kill animals in the wild after catching them. Is it hard? Yes. But THEY NEED THE DAMN EXPERIENCE SO THEY DON'T FREEZE UP AS BADLY IN COMBAT.

Get Naruto into the Tactical Thinking. Not because he is Shikamaru Level at it; but because he is good at surprising the enemy. So Naruto's shenanigans + some tactician lessons = Perfect Combo for Ambush.

Naruto and Kurama interact earlier. And, while it won't be that much better than the beginning of their friendship in the anime, we are getting the friendship a lot faster this time.

Finally, Team 3, being trained by Genma, starts to pick up having Senbons on them. It's like their "mark" as Genma's kids. (Genma is so proud)

This is all I have currently (mostly because it's late at night here, and I am losing my thought process). I will also post what I have written from the Prologue after this is posted, so look forward to that.

I never really was his Senpai. We were in the same year at the academy for a while and he actually made chunin and jonin before I did, I just made ANBU first because of my family specialization. You know how Genma is always portrayed as a flirt? Like, hopelessly. Bordering on pervy, but still a good guy underneath it all?

What about medic Genma. Like, he hits on any and all females, but when one is hurt, he jumps into medic mode. No sly passes or wandering hands. He flips a switch and only cares about fixing them, because ‘damn it, I’ve never lost a patient and I’m not about to start now, sweetheart’. 

He would be renowned for his skill and professionalism (which is why so many women put up with him). And then when they’re on the mend, he goes back to his usual self all ‘was it as good for you as it was for me?’. Edit: really? No one was gonna tell me that my fat fingers spelled his name wrong the first time??

This man was fine as shit for no reason do u see that smirk? He just has that cool bad boy vibe except he's not, he's a good boy who does his job. It's in his description that he appears bored/tired, but he is really a kind person. What a sweetie. And when he shot the senbon?? That's some tongue technology right there. I have a weakness for boys with brown hair, okay?

Kabuto Yakushi and Kakashi Hatake

Kabuto is literally the love of my life. This boy was sickeningly handsome with a sickly sweet smile and personality. I was surprised to hear that most people hate him just because he's good at being a ninja haha. But the Kabuto before he became super evil is the cutest, sweetest thing in the world. How the fuck do you look at him and not fall in love? His voice is perfect as well. And he's a medical man who can work on you?? *faints*

Plus, it's super hot when someone hides their talents instead of bragging, Kabuto was like super powerful but acted like he was bad at taking the test T_T when he was literally a genius and a successful ninja??

I love Kakashi a lot, but not in the same way as Kabuto. I'm just in love with the way he carries himself. He's obviously the opposite of Might Guy because he is cool without trying. He's handsome, he's effortlessly cool, he's sweet and caring to the kids, he's strong after everything that's happened to him. A total babe <3.
