Plinio Nomellini - A Capri (1922) :: [Guillaume Gris]
* * *
"When you encounter difficulties, the feelings and stories that arise in reaction are just that, feelings and stories. They are whirlwinds of confusion, based not in what is happening now but in deeply held beliefs about you and your relationship to the world. Let them swirl- leaves in the wind. Sometimes you fall back into them and lose touch with the present, but a moment of recognition always comes. Right then, come back to your body, come back to your breath, and rest. The confusion, the stories and the feelings are still there. They continue to swirl, but you are not lost in them."

Misinformation Central!
From the article authors channel:
"Visegrad 24 has become a viral sensation, and the number one most influential source of online news about the Israel/Palestine situation.
Yet it constantly publishes fake news and false information which whitewashes Israeli crimes.
Worse still, this shadowy organization is actually funded by the right-wing Polish government.
Find out who controls this group and what their agenda is by checking out my investigation (please share widely):"

Great Slave Lake, Hay River (No. 4)
The main western portion of the lake forms a moderately deep bowl with a surface area of 18,500 km2 (7,100 sq mi) and a volume of 596 km3 (143 cu mi). This main portion has a maximum depth of 187.7 m (616 ft) and a mean depth of 32.2 m (106 ft). To the east, McLeod Bay (62°52′N 110°10′W) and Christie Bay (62°32′N 111°00′W) are much deeper, with a maximum recorded depth in Christie Bay of 614 m (2,014 ft).
On some of the plains surrounding Great Slave Lake, climax polygonal bogs have formed, the early successional stage to which often consists of pioneer black spruce.
South of Great Slave Lake, in a remote corner of Wood Buffalo National Park, is the Whooping Crane Summer Range, a nesting site of a remnant flock of whooping cranes, discovered in 1954.

On this day:
HEADLESS VALLEY
On September 28, 1915, the burned-down cabin and the headless remains of Swedish prospector Martin Jorgensen were discovered near the Nahanni River, in the Northwest Territories, Canada. Nahanni country, home of a legendary hidden tropical valley, where dazzling gold deposits are guarded by superstition and elusive, savage mountain men. Jorgensen was searching for the placer gold that had been reported earlier by the McLeod brothers. He sent a message to his partner, via a trapper, that he had found the gold. Now he was headless.
Seven years before Jorgensen's remains were found, the headless bodies of the McLeod brothers were discovered in the South Nahanni. They left behind a sled runner with the words "We have found a fine prospect" written across it and large chunks of quartz riddled with gold. Their story started in 1903, when a Cassiar Indian visited the Hudson Bay Company trading post possessing fist-size gold nuggets. Plied with alcohol, he revealed the placer location. Murdoch McLeod, Hudson Bay agent at Fort Liard, relayed the story to his three sons, Willie, Frank, and Charlie McLeod.
Burning with gold fever, the brothers made a grueling wilderness journey to a tributary of the Flat River. After little luck and much misadventure, including having their barge and supplies lost at the Cascade of the Thirteen Drops, the boys returned home. Willie and Frank set out with a Scottish engineer the next year. After they had been absent for four years, Charlie went to look for them. In mid-summer, he found their bodies, picked clean by animals and headless. Since the early 1900s, over twenty men have either vanished or been found as a headless skeleton.

medieval women week day 2: Favorite non-Queen or Queen-adjacent royal woman: Jacquetta of Luxembourg Duchess of Bedford and Mother to Queen Elizabeth Woodville
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jacquetta of Luxembourg was the eldest child of the French Count of St Pol; her family descended from Charlemagne and were cousins to the Holy Roman Emperor. She grew up with war between France and England raging around her.
John, Duke of Bedford was the youngest son of King Henry IV. Having lost his wife to plague in 1432, he arranged to marry the seventeen-year-old Jacquetta, who was his social equal by her birth. Although married for two years they were childless when John died in September 1435. The King instructed Jacquetta to come to England and ordered Sir Richard Woodville, to arrange it.
However, Jacquetta and Richard fell in love, but Richard was a poor knight, far below Jacquetta in social status. Nonetheless, they married secretly thus thwarting any plans King Henry may have had to marry her off to a wealthy English lord. Theirs was a morganatic marriage, where one of the partners, most often the wife, was socially inferior. Henry was enraged and fined the couple £1000. He did however allow their heirs to inherit, which was unusual for morganatic marriages in England.
Being the widow of Henry V’s brother and aunt to the King, royal protocol gave Jacquetta the highest rank at court of any female except Henry’s wife, Margaret of Anjou, to whom Jacquetta was related by marriage. She even ‘outranked’ the King’s mother and was referred to as the ‘Duchess of Bedford,’ retaining the title from her first marriage. Richard and Jacquetta lived in their manor house at Grafton Regis near Northampton producing fourteen children, the eldest, Elizabeth being born in 1437.
In 1448 Richard was created Lord Rivers: his advancement ensured his family supported Henry VI in the dynastic feuding of the Wars of the Roses. The situation changed with the Yorkist victory at the Battle of Towton in 1461 and the seizure of the throne by Edward IV. By the spring of 1464, Jacquetta’s daughter Elizabeth was a widow, her Lancastrian husband having been killed in 1461. Within a few months, Elizabeth was married to the young King Edward IV.
Jacquetta died in 1472 aged 56 and was buried at Grafton, though no record of her tomb survives. Recently, one legacy has come to light. Research by gene specialists indicates that Jacquetta was a carrier of the rare Kell-Antigen-Mcleod syndrome causing impaired fertility and psychotic behavioural changes in the male descendants of the family.

Order the fries!
And you may have already done this one but Sam/Rowena? (Or Sam/Jody if you prefer)
y'all the fries were Ordered and then they were Crushed. so while I sit here in grease coma--
sam/rowena
this is one of those ships that I get on an intellectual level but that I'm kinda meh about. to sweep aside the version I'm most meh about as I've done with all the other options -- I hhhhhhate "witch Sam uwu" and the purple woowoo magic that costs nothing and Sam Learning Magic From Rowena and any of that cutesy flowercrown business. ech. If we're gonna ship people I want them to be adults, lol. So with all that--
this is one of those ships that I see the full ship-tential for, really, but I think it's one where they were kind of passing each other at the wrong... time? Kinda like uhh Doctor Who/River. If Sam had been his shadier less-self-respecty s4 self and met a hot dangermilf, odds are higher he could've gotten in there. But Sam in the latter seasons does have self-respect, and when he meets Rowena she's essentially Crowley but redheaded, and we've already talked about how Sam's too good for Crowley, haha. She does get slowly less villainous and Sam respects her more the more she does good, and I can see Sam's genuine interest in her rising the more she clicks over into neutral vs evil. She's his McLeod, where Crowley is Dean's, and Sam were go for it it'd be when she's at her best -- but unfortunately she dies before that door ever fully, really opens. (I try to forget about the 'queen of hell' shit. that red pantsuit, christ.)
Interestingly, too, Rowena's level of self-respect is all over the place. She's haughty and her chin's held high but we know she went through the filthiest muck to get here, in her ridiculously OTT gowns and wealth and make-up to the nines at all times. It's a facade to cover up the terror and old shame, and tbf she has built up a whole castle of witch-bitch to surround that. I can fully see her wanting to fuck Sam just on a physical attraction level -- not least because of that one dom!Sam moment where he makes her sit down and she does, presumably gushing -- but I don't know that she'd let herself. Men are to be used and discarded on the way to the next goal. Letting yourself be open with one is weakness, and she doesn't intend to be weak again.
So what does that leave me at -- like, mutual admiration, physical attraction, but a thin barrier always held up of we could, but let's not do that to each other. Alas. Sam could hold her up with one hand and nail her standing.

Great Slave Lake, Hay River (No. 3)
The Hay, Slave (which in turn includes the Peace), Lockhart, and Taltson Rivers are its chief tributaries. It is drained by the Mackenzie River. Though the western shore is forested, the east shore and northern arm are tundra-like. The southern and eastern shores reach the edge of the Canadian Shield. Along with other lakes such as the Great Bear and Athabasca, it is a remnant of the vast glacial Lake McConnell.
The lake has a very irregular shoreline. The East Arm of Great Slave Lake is filled with islands, and the area is within the proposed Thaidene Nene National Park Reserve. The Pethei Peninsula separates the East Arm into McLeod Bay in the north and Christie Bay in the south. The lake is at least partially frozen during an average of eight months of the year.
