#maybe over time characters in these dynamics think of themselves as friends or even best friends

really feel like fandom needs to get more comfortable with ambiguous dynamics, and how that ambiguity can be a feature not a bug! i notice this everywhere in fandom now, but this post is about sydcarmy the bear cause that is my current hyperfixation lol. sitting with ambiguity is the lifeblood of so many (all?) queer ships (also, importantly, my real-life queer experience) but i think it’s often relevant for straight ships too. no one is making sydcarmy antis ship them but to say ABSOLUTELY NOT because the nature of their relationship at this very moment is not easily defined is missing so much that is rich and interesting and sexy about figuring out what the dynamic is. *especially* for fan content (which is what a lot of us are here for actually!) using fic and meta to explore what certain words, body language, editing choices, music choices, etc mean is what makes our brains light up! (mine at least)
tension between two characters is the sexiest thing and ambiguity heightens that tension imo! whatever happens or does not happen with them in the future, at this very moment in time the undefinable quality of their relationship creates the space for shipping. this used to be a rather basic concept in fandom that seems to have gotten lost in the past however many years. i guess the primary anti response to this would be that the dynamic is *not* ambiguous—it is platonic—but like, i am with @eatandsleepwell who just included the following in this excellent post today:
and the thing about syd and carm being friends is that. they’re not. or at least not yet. or at least they need more to be friends. friends know your mom is dead, they know what your relationship with your parents is like. friends can easily hang out with each other after work. friends can be apart without the sense that the separation is akin to devastation.
i don’t really think they’re friends! they are a weird third thing that is so delicious to me, and every single day right now very brilliant people are writing hundreds of words on this website attempting to interpret what that thing is or could be. this is the lifeblood of fandom! and the demand or expectation that ships have neon signs above them that say ROMANTIC to be valid romantic ships is just very odd to me. syd and carmy are weird and intense about each other in a way that is not easy to parse but once you decide to try and parse it, it’s such a satisfying experience as a fan. they had some major blow ups in s1, and in s2 managed to largely avoid them with the asl sorry but clearly were in unspokenish conflict much of the time (that they managed to diffuse just barely; mostly by syd walking away!) besties is not the word i would use to describe them at all. besties do not struggle this much to communicate. there are so many wonderful complicated bonkers things going on there and the purpose of this post isn’t to get into them but just to point out that they’re there.
anyone who thinks it’s easy to reduce them to any one given thing right now isn’t paying enough attention. and not being able to categorize them easily isn’t a bad thing for me. it’s the constant thrum of what is this? what is this? what is this??? that makes fandom great and i wish that didn’t feel like a hot take right now.

Those letters for his students was like Gojo’s way of showing consideration for them.
Tumblr media
That’s what Geto Suguru, the “Gojo translator”, would say to them, if he was there.
I mean, there was a reason they were best friends - Geto understood him the best. He helped him learn how to (and the importance of) connecting to others - how to not be lonely.
Tumblr media
It was the same in the scene with Kuroi. Right before he shouted for Gojo over the time, he just instinctively knew how to connect with Gojo and helped others with sympathising with Gojo.
I didn’t play the JJK game but I think the undercurrent dynamics is similar. Their bond. The exclusivity. Love. The whole breakup was about their friendship. The change the new generation got was also due to the path forged by them. As it stands, Gojo is shown to be largely misunderstood and nobody aside from Yuta has shown much affection for Gojo. Maybe Yuji ... to some degree. But I digress.
Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion, but considering how Geto-centred Gojo’s GIGA Character book was, he was likely influenced by Geto’s strong protective love for his “family”.
It makes sense to me that Gojo thought it would be important to put the students’ minds at ease with any thoughts/questions about their family. Hence the letters to help tie up loose ends.
Tumblr media
Megumi was shown to be thinking about his father, whin he assumed was out there somewhere. Even if he didn’t want to know, there is a subconscious level of unfinished business from thinking this. And to know that Gojo killed him, may have helped him realise that his sensei had his back all this while. He was worth protecting all this while. That chapter of his life can truly close.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And just how bloody typical of his sensei, who has no “delicate-ness” about him!
As a sensei, and as a person, Gojo always protected others from his own personal concerns. He and Geto both stubbornly lived & fought “alone” because this was just their belief as the burden of the strongest = to protect others. The line was drawn and Gojo only ever wanted Geto to understand him, hence his conversation in 236. Only ever needed Geto by his side: hence his only complex was Geto leaving him behind.
Tumblr media
We see this in how Shoko felt distant from them both. Stating in her inner monologue how she could never love either of them, but she was there - insinuating what they had between them was not something she could give (love) but her friendship was there if only Gojo let her in. And we see it in how, when she tried to connect with Gojo post-unsealing, by including Geto’s body as someone to be retrieved, he was a bit taken aback, starting his sentence with a long pause “……...” and keeping it simple / not elaborating (だな - it’s like the equivalent of a “yeah” but implies agreement).
Tumblr media
Also, the fact the students and others can joke and call him an idiot, etc. means he really hid it well. Gojo protected them all. (As a teacher and adult should, I guess.)
I’m reminded of this scene.
Tumblr media
Geto helped Gojo empathise & “not bully the weak”, but to also consider what else may be important... even if they may not think so themselves.
Until they receive what they thought they didn’t want, only to realise it was what they needed after all.
Tumblr media
Cuz… y’kow: people (especially children) don’t always know what they want or need.
Sometimes what you want isn’t what you need. What you need isn’t necessarily what you want.
Gojo & Geto lived through that too... didn’t they? On so many levels… wanting, needing, denying, losing, yearning. Carrying their burdens they had nobody to share with. Making decisions on their own. Giving to the other a piece of their heart. Sacrificing themselves. Accepting each others loneliness as their own. Thinking they were better off loving the other by being apart.
The painful lessons that shaped the way for the new world. Children given the protection from The Strongest Sorcerer of the Modern Era. Granted a world with fewer curses for 10 years due to the Strongest Curse User.
Children who had adults to guide, protect, and care for them.
Children who do not have to be killed for the mistakes of others, who were forced to commit sins, or for being born a certain way.
I think every single sorcerer who were adults helped the kids in some way. The layers and layers of this story is just... overwhelmingly beautiful.
Much remains to be seen now. I’m worried that Yuta will have to live in Gojo’s body and that Kenjaku’s eerie words of Yuta being “the next Gojo Satoru” will extend beyond that battle.
People on X seem to be speculating whether a world without curses will exist (going back to jjk 0 and Geto’s ideals). What of the barriers without tengen? Some question reality as we are being shown - is it an elaborate dream? Hm.
I hope for the plant/flower trio at least... Megumi and Yuji can use their shared tragedy as vessels who committed sins to bond and support one another. Nobara is a great buffer and heroine in her own right. Their dynamics are really amazing. Independent, yet so bonded.
I’d love to see Gojo & Geto at peace. I guess whatever happens, chapter 236 is a bit like salvation. And doesn’t Megumi’s smiling pic (above) look similar? If these two smiled as if they had no regrets , we can assume Megumi smiled sincerely upon receiving the letter, too.
Tumblr media
As long as Gege doesn’t do anything to change it.
Please please don’t. They deserve a reward for their hard work and sacrifice!

Best BLs of 2024
To my surprise, it appears that we've entered 2025, so before I give myself over to the new year I wanted to share my 15 favourite BLs of 2024 in no particular order. Here we go!!!
🇹🇼 The On1y One
This show came complete out of left field and absolutely blew me away! The slow burn was just so delicious which I actually think is a pretty hard thing to do but with acting this good and a great production quality, it did not ever get too slow or too boring. I just wish they would get a second season because, as I've talked about before, I'm convinced the creators intended for this to be just the first season. I'm still holding out hope for a second season but I do worry that since we haven't heard anything concrete yet that we might not get one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🇰🇷 The Time of Fever
I already knew this was going to be good since I loved these two in Unintentional Love Story. This is actually very similar to The On1e One and did it just as well but with a slightly different approach. The yearning was palpable in the best way possible!
It's such a pity that it seems like the Korean BL market is struggling right now but this show was no disappointment. Would love a sequel to Unintentional Love Story now because I need to see these two finally get their shit together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🇹🇼 Unknown
Taiwan does gray area stories so well and this was a perfect example. It was so delicious to witness Yuan just love and yearn for Qian and just get stronger and stronger in the conviction that he was made for loving Qian. I'm also just weak for a character who doesn't think much of themselves and don't believe they deserve to be loved like their romantic interest wants to and then for them to finally cave to the persistence of their romantic partner. Could watch a trillion of those types of pairings and this show was a really good take on the trope.
Tumblr media
🇰🇷 Love for Love's Sake
This was an odd one but I really liked the concept. The acting, plot and production was really good and I liked how this added something fresh. It's a similar type of pairing as Unknown so again this was right up my alley. One of these days I should look at all my favourite shows and see how often this dynamic pops up because I bet it's a lot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🇹🇭 Cherry Magic th
Is this the same type of pairing as both Unknown and Love For Love's Sake?!  You bet it is!!!
Tay and New were just so good in this. I loved that they're both actual dorks but Karan is just better at hiding it so Ashi believed Karan was better than him. In reality they were just the same and perfect for each other. Also I just absolutely love this version of Karan because, as I said before, he' was's such a dork and hearing his inner thoughts through Ashi's powers was such a highlight of this show. Favourite scene was in the bus when Ashi leaned on Karan's shoulder and you just heard Karan's internal screaming. Such a mood!! It just made Karan so much more down to earth and I think Ashi and Karan are one of the few BL pairings where I can imagine them being together for the rest of their lives because they'd be both best friends and lovers.
I did struggle with the Pai character because she was such a good female character and representation of the struggles a lot of woman have. I so badly wanted her to stay single and happy on her own and it felt unnecessary to pair her with Rock. Even more so because her Japanese counter part was actually asexual so I would have loved for Pai to have a similar story line.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🇯🇵 25 Ji, Akasaka de
Just so much pining!!! And another character feeling unworthy of their romantic interest but I feel like this was slightly different, more in an idolizing way and Japan does that really well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🇨🇳 Blue Canvas of Youthful Days
This was such a raw feeling show and s big surprise coming out of China. It felt real and raw without feeling like it was low quality. I loved both pairings so much and maybe I'm a masochist but I loved having my heart broken every week.
It didn't quite stick the landing but honestly, with it being China, I'm not surprised the ending got muddled and famously I don't mind when a show doesn't stick it's landing (See my love of HIStory3: Make Our Days Count). It's still worth watching so much and I will definitely watch it again myself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🇹🇭 Every You, Every Me
I already enjoyed Top and Mick in their segment of My Universe so I was very excited for this one. This was also a nice surprise because I was just expecting another anthology show but the way they connected the couples was really clever. The ending was a little weak but again here, I didn't think it really hurt the show too much, it just meant this is a good show that could have been even more amazing.
I feel like Top and Mick really proved themselves in this and I really hope that we get more of them. They're a rare pairing that don't visually have a clear top/bottom dynamic while also being good enough actors to be able to both pull of playing both roles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🇹🇭 I Saw You in My Dream
This was a cute little show and I was happily surprised that they pulled off the more ambitious concept of the prophetic dreams. Both couples were really great and I had such a good time watching along.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🇨🇳 Meet You at the Blossom
Finally a Wuxia BL from China, by the help of Thailand and Taiwan. This was all I wanted it to be and I can't wait to see how these actors do going forward with them being Chinese and all. I hope we get more Wuxia BLs because this was soooo much fun. I loved both main and secondary characters and pairings and the plot was just the right amount of unhinged.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🇹🇭 We Are
I was worried about this show having so many couples and episodes but I loved how they intertwined and balanced the pairings and gave us a show which was engaging and interesting all the way through.
I love me some found family and all the pairings were great in their own ways. I did particularly love Peem and Phum. It's the hurt character with walls so high all over again (adds another tally to the count). To be honest PhumPeem are still rotating in my mind to this day which I think is a testament to how well this show was executed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🇹🇭 Spare Me Your Mercy
This was such an engaging watch and it was so cool to get another BL which was really a romance second and another genre first. The crime and mystery of this show was really great and the production quality fit really well. I talked in this post about it struggling with only having 8 episodes which I wholeheartedly think is most of the reason why this show is just good and not absolutely amazing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🇯🇵 Takara no Vidro
Another little gem of a show with characters who are perfect for each other but don't believe they're worthy of the other person. Japan does this really well so this was a success.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🇹🇭 Pit Babe
This was a wild ride with a wild plot and concept but it committed to the bit and made me really invested in the characters and made it easy to get on board with the ABO dynamic of this show and what it meant for the plot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🇰🇷 Love in the Big City
This was a top tier QL! It's one of those BLs that are really more about the realities of being queer than the romance which is when a ton of people pop out of the woodwoork to debate whether this is a BL or Queer Media™ as if the latter is inherently better than the first, which is a ridiculous sentiment. Sure, if you don't want to call this a BL because the focus is much more on the realities of being Queer in South Korea then I'm not going to burn you at the stake but don't make this out to be better than BL as a whole. BL is Queer Media and not inherently worse or better than other queer media, especially the kind that don't focus on romance. Anyways, a small tangent.
This show is great and well worth a watch. I don't know if I'll ever watch it again personally because it just left me feeling so raw and too seen.

Ivan & Till: When One Character's Inferiority Complex Meets Another's Superiority Complex
Heavily based on this post by @pwippy
To outline what's already been said in this post about Till's apparent tendency to view himself as "superior" to his peers: There's often a mindset that those who lack companionship will adopt to protect themselves from the idea that can come with loneliness that there's something wrong with them. This idea is best summed up as "I'm alone because I'm different. I'm better than them."
Till seems to have adopted this mindset. We know based on the ALNST comics with the Ivan and Till "Cheer up!" scene that Till is lonely. He has no friends. And when Ivan bluntly points this out to Till, Till lashes out hard, hitting Ivan and knocking him to the ground before storming away. Ivan's observation got to him. It did what Ivan is always trying to do; it got a rise out of him.
Tumblr media
To protect himself from fear (the fear that he only made it through Urak's experiments by chance, by sheer luck and not because he's better) and rejection (rejection from his peers, from Mizi, even an entire audience) Till has to convince himself in his head that there's a reason for all this. He's better off alone. He doesn't need anyone. Even Mizi, who he adores and admires, is kept at a distance. Till is never once upfront about his feelings. He can't take that sort of rejection, ESPECIALLY not from Mizi. He eliminates the chance of rejection altogether by simply watching her from afar rather than approaching her and really trying to be her friend.
Tumblr media
(Look at his cute little face I'm going to cry)
Even a crowd Till acts like he doesn't care about? Like he doesn't care what they think, like he's beyond caring? In Round 2, he didn't even give them a chance to reject him. He made sure they couldn't. He didn't even let his opponent sing.
Tumblr media
Ivan, on the other hand, doesn't seem all that concerned about rejection. Unlike Till's fear with Mizi, Ivan is all over Till and isn't deterred when Till reacts to his teasing with irritation. This doesn't mean Ivan isn't hurt by Till's rejections, specifically Till's last-minute decision not to run away with him, but this does mean Ivan is okay with being hurt again, and again, and again as long as he gets to be around Till.
Ivan's complete lack of care about his own mental state is the result of an inferiority complex. Ivan has absolutely no regard for his own wellbeing. He only cares about Till yet doesn't truly believe he's worthy of Till. I always find it interesting (and refreshing) that Ivan isn't jealous of Till's crush for capturing his attention. In fact, Ivan doesn't ever show signs of resenting Mizi at all. He treats her kindly and doesn't fixate on her in an unhealthy, envious way. They're friends despite the object of Ivan's affection being captivated by Mizi. While I love their dynamic and find it nice that Ivan isn't jealous of Mizi, jealousy is a natural human emotion, and Ivan's lack of it really tells me how little he thinks of himself. Why would he be jealous if he doesn't have a chance with Till in the first place? He'll content himself with existing in his orbit, thinking even this little piece of his attention is more than he deserves.
Tumblr media
Like Till, Ivan doesn't open himself up to the chance of connection with other children at Anakt Garden, although their reasons seem inherently different. While Till fears rejection, Ivan doesn't seem to even see a point. Till asks himself "What's the point?" in an attempt to convince himself he doesn't need friends, though he doesn't believe it. Ivan asks himself the same question and genuinely doesn't know the answer. No, Ivan is not invincible to being hurt or rejected. Maybe he's past fearing any such thing at a certain point because nobody knows who he really is anyway, not even Ivan himself. How can he be afraid of someone hurting him if they can't touch him? The one time he expresses himself genuinely with Till, he knows that he won't have to deal with the consequences. He won't have to deal with the hurt that comes with being open again.
Tumblr media
Having such radically different views of themselves, their relationships with others, and the world around them, it's no wonder Till and Ivan lack communication and understanding. As individuals, they have deeply complex psyches; Till keeps pushing people away, and Ivan keeps letting himself be pushed and then coming back around even though he already knows the result. He just doesn't see worth in anything in his life that isn't Till and this cycle. They both long for connection but don't know how to reach it. For them to come to an understanding, Ivan has to recognize his own worth (something Till uses as a defense mechanism) and Till has to open himself up to hurt (something Ivan does to an unhealthy degree).
They're identically opposite.

I’m always curious about Kankri being redeemed in any way (maybe because he can become the sufferer). Obviously to do so would be simply punting him to reality and force him to live it, no help from his shoddily-made support structure. But I’m curious how you would go about doing it
Given their role thematically in the story, I'm actually usually not on the train of "fully redeem the dancestors", but I do like giving them some catharsis and reckoning, a place in the fight against LE. One last chance to do something good with their lives/afterlives before the end, and a(n implied) new start as wigglers born into the new universe.
So to that end, in my head, the "turnaround point" for Kankri - the inciting incident that makes him have a mental breakdown that results in him finally taking some accountability for his shitty actions - is having a conversation with Eridan.
In my head, the Dancestor reckoning happens gradually, alongside a series of retcons where the dead trolls are brought back one or two at a time, and deal with their emotional issues a little more with every cast member added back into the party.
The TL;DR series of events is: Terezi asks to bring back Vriska, Vriska asks John to punch out Tavros before she can kill him, Tavros's influence makes Gamzee ask for Equius and Nepeta to be brought back, Equius asks for a redux of Aradiabot, Aradiabot grabs John by the arm and gets him to undo her death and Sollux's fall into depression, Sollux asks for Feferi to be brought back, and then Karkat asks for Eridan.
We know from (Vriska) that the Game Over/Alpha Timeline characters still exist post-Retcon, so those characters would also be continuing their character arcs, just in the afterlife prepping for the LE fight. For example, I think Meenah's reckoning should be delivered by (Karkat) - after having had so long to reflect on his own failures as a leader, he would be perfectly poised to scream at her for hers, which would also serve to make this confrontation a final thesis for Karkat as a whole - what leadership means (caring about your team) - and a conclusion to the Meenah/Karkat dynamic.
So when I say that Kankri needs to talk to Eridan, I mean Eridan and not (Eridan). Full character development, all his teammates are alive, taken full accountability and responsibility for his actions, team good guy Eridan. And as I noted in this essay, Eridan with full character development is actually more annoying than regular Eridan, because he's also the "Devastating: Worst Guy You Know Made An Excellent Point" guy. In bulleted form:
He's still an advocate for murder. Murder is literally what kept his friends alive long enough to play the game, and playing the game itself involves genocide, so he would be the Token Evil Teammate who reminds the team that, hey, murder is an option - and enemies will be considering it. Even at his very best, he's going to struggle with empathy and have an extremely blase view of violence and murder - those were literally just facts of his life through his most formative years.
This also makes him a TOTAL downer, as he's the tempering voice that reminds them that decisions have consequences, and utopia requires sacrifices, and nothing is ever worth fighting for that won't eventually need to be fought for. Like I said, worst guy you know, excellent points. In fact, he's out here volunteering to do the murdering when the situation calls, if nobody else wants to get their fins dirty. He's really good at it.
He's still an idiot who doesn't listen to people. He's perfectly fine at taking orders, but having a conversation with him is still really difficult. I feel like if you make Eridan too smart, mentally flexible, and socially aware, you lose a lot of his Eridan-ness, and I think these characters, fully realized, are more of themselves, not less. I also don't know how you could reasonably expect to fix these traits. He's just Like That.
He drops his fake pro-Empire stuff, because that was basically all just empty posturing in the first place, but...
Now he's a pretentious-ass hipster who judges you for liking Trollor Swift and Troll Marvel. Given that Jake's indiscriminate taste is actually linked to his deficit of Hope (he has little conviction, he's wishy-washy), Eridan coming into full Prince of Hope regalia involves getting even more annoying about his taste in media (shittons of conviction, refusal to budge).
He is also a wizard. He will not shut up about this.
And finally, I think he'd still be out here using slurs. First of all, because it'd be really funny, because he's literally not casteist, but second, because there's two types of "it's equality" - the kind where nobody ever says anything offensive, and the kind where "offensive" stops being a relevant concept because true equality has been achieved. Think of the discourse surrounding the reclamation of slurs IRL, or how the "it's equality" meme gets used - this idea that words can be stripped of power by changing the context of who's saying them, or that objectification/discrimination stop being problems if they're applied evenly across the board, instead of limited to specific groups. I think that this is the exact type of nuanced idea that Homestuck would tackle and its fandom would get incensed about, which is why I think it should stay.
Eridan's role, thus, becomes a sort of "unpleasant truths" kind of character. Violence, both physical and verbal, is unpleasant as hell, and the natural instinct is to avoid it. The problem is, in any true discussion of what society should look like, they're topics that can't be avoided, and are even sometimes necessary not just to recognize, but to utilize (no revolution is bloodless, etc.). Eridan - an extreme personality - is going to represent the uncomfortable extreme of the debate. And by that I mean he's going to be saying slurs and talking about murders and is still going to be unquestionably a force for good.
The reason I'm going so in-depth into this is because Kankri very much represents the opposite: using "polite" language and couching it in the language of courtesy, activism, and liberal ideology, Kankri hides - and worse, spreads - his classist, ableist, misogynistic, puritan beliefs. He enforces the class divide and actively works against his teammates' best interests.
He whines that the lower blood castes should stop complaining about oppression, because others have it worse. He tells the team feminist that misogyny isn't real, then slut shames her. He tells the guy with brain damage that he's making other neurodivergent/TBI people look bad, exacerbates Latula's shame around her inability to smell, and actively guilt trips Cronus into ignoring his epiphany and self-reflection. Kankri is only an activist in that he actively makes everybody worse.
But why does he act like this? Well, it's due to the fact that he was probably culled, and on-sight at that, like Karkat would've been if anyone found out about his mutant blood. Kankri doesn't seem to have a symbol or lusus, either, two thinks Karkat only had because the Signless's followers prepped them for him, so the chances are very high that Kankri was culled since he was hatched. Given the way he discusses culling with Latula, and viciously despises being mothered by Porrim, it's clear he has some really complicated feelings regarding having his agency dismissed. Thus, his work to hamper his team - at least some of which is wilful on his part, as he'll outright cast aspersions on Horuss or Cronus's beliefs for being "imaginary" even as he encourages them to commit to them - is motivated by something quite simple: power, attention, entitlement, and control.
When he goes on his grand lectures, he frequently slips and reveals that he sees himself as a great, unquestionable spiritual leader, often trying to place other characters in subordinate positions to himself - Karkat is his "pupil," and his monologues, I mean, sermons, I mean, diatribes, are spoken as if from a position of authority. He outright tells Meenah that this is what he believes himself to be.
It's a very Seer sort of problem - both that of hubris and that of willful blindness. If you chart out the actual "end goal" of his beliefs, it appears to be a world in which Kankri himself is both the biggest victim and most important voice in the room. He regularly disparages those with actual disadvantages (Damara, Porrim, Mituna) while playing up the false problems of those who don't actually have them (Horuss, Cronus). Those with disadvantages should have their voices amplified - except lowbloods should stop whining and misogyny isn't real. And those with real power should check their privilege - but won't somebody think of the poor highbloods who have ~emotional problems~? Kankri will, and all the highbloods need to do is bend the knee and treat Kankri as their specialest boy.
In short, he's using his intellect, rhetoric, and forceful personality for selfish, emotionally-driven pursuits. The actual substance of his arguments is ephemeral and contradictory because that's the trick - the point is NOT to further equality, but to verbally browbeat his conversation partner into submission. In other words, you can't beat Kankri in a regular debate, because the moment you start trying to actually engage in a debate with him, he wins. The moment you start lunging at his arguments, he's got you in his red-texted labyrinth. The moment you start treating his points like they merit genuine discussion, you're in the pews of Kankri's church, and he's up at the pulpit.
And Eridan is the destroyer of faith. He's also an idiot who doesn't listen to people.
I don't really know exactly how it would play out, but I know in my heart. In the pit of my soul. That Eridan would call Kankri several slurs, (correctly) point out that Kankri's celibacy is stupid because it's clear he has feelings for Cronus and Latula, (correctly) point out that his pro-equality stuff is stupid because he calls violets "Royal-V"s, (incorrectly) accuse Kankri of hitting on him, (correctly) point out that the entire point of a slur is that it hurts and insults the person it's used on, (correctly) call Kankri several more slurs, (correctly) point out that Kankri just wants attention, especially from highbloods, (???) go on an unhinged rant (maybe more) about being a wizard, being a murderer, and being a murderer wizard, (???) insult Kankri's taste in music, and finish it up by (correctly) revealing that Eridan and Karkat are moirails who make out sometimes.
I think Kankri would start crying.

violent by circumstance
i read a thread from twitter about how moxley and orange mirror each other. it wasn't a bad thread but the only things it really said are that both were comedic characters who've been betrayed that have become more violent. it doesn't get at what makes their dynamic so interesting, especially with this current feud.
orange becoming more violent is a reaction to the world around him. orange cassidy, over his time in aew, has become more isolated; he's been targeted, he's been taken advantage of, and he's become worse at hiding his frustration. this is because of the most important change in his character; he's gotten an ego. the orange cassidy that showed up in 2019 let himself get thrown out of a battle royale without fighting. that is not the same person who held the international title for a year, who felt that bag growing heavier every week.
mox has been able to prod that ego, last year by calling the best friends jokes, this year by targeting chuck taylor. chuck, who stood by orange when they were betrayed by trent. the orange cassidy of 2019 wouldn't have had it in him to take on mox alone, or stick his hand in a bucket of broken glass to hurt mox. but he also wouldn't have been important enough to target. mox wants to bring the best version of orange out, the orange cassidy that has proven himself over the past 5 years, and he'll do anything to achieve that.
for moxley, violence is self actualization. it's how he shows who he is, after he wasn't able to show it in wwe. he wanted to spread the gospel of bloodshed with bryan, and when he thought bryan couldn't preach anymore, he took him out. in orange i think he sees himself, someone using humor to hide a killer's instinct. maybe he's right, but we're seeing a common theme in aew, which is that glory isn't as important as your connections.
mjf threw the title aside to embrace adam cole at aew's biggest show ever. hangman's quest for justice and vengeance has left him a shell of his former self. toni was able to dance out of wembley, having lost mariah and her title but gaining the adoration of the crowd that she sought. the power of love saved the elite against the bcc.
orange cassidy has lost all of the best friends by betrayal or murder. his rage caused him to try to paralyze trent. even though he has the conglomeration backing him, he's become emo. it's at the point where he feels like he needs to take on moxley alone because he doesn't want anyone he cares about to get hurt. and his gained ego allows him to think he's capable of doing it alone.
moxley takes no joy in what he's doing, but he's utterly dedicated to carrying on nonetheless. he has allies, but they're not there for him, they're there for the cause. if he doesn't feel like they're doing enough for it, he will cast them aside, as he did bryan. if they think he's faltered, they'll probably kill him too.
orange and mox are both using their abilities to protect their visions for aew. both have become greater by dedicating themselves to violence above the connections they've made. both of them are miserable for it.

would sell one-third of my soul for season 1 of tts but for 14+.
-diving into rapunzel’s guilt over touching the rocks as she tries to do that typical “filler” stuff, so the audience isn’t wondering why the problem isn’t being addressed, but rather, wondering how much longer until she breaks and addresses it.
-more character focus (honestly, i want this for the whole show). cassandra had some good development in season 1, but i’d love it if it delved into eugene struggling to reconcile his past with the fact that he lives in a castle now. with. you know. the guy that almost had him hanged.
-more eugene and lance flashbacks, particularly lance-focused stuff.
-more time with varian (particularly the varian-rapunzel and varian-eugene dynamics). really integrating him into the faces we think of when we think of the main cast, even if he isn’t necessarily their friend. or, heck, actually making him their friend.
-the destruction of old corona in real time. maybe making it the image shown during the credits! like, we see the normal village, and then, with each passing episode, the rocks overtake it further, pushing themselves into the picture as the sky gradually darkens.
-a varian pov episode with the masked men outside his house as he battles lingering sickness from the storm. we can even combine this with “the quest for varian” as rapunzel investigates his abandoned, cobweb-covered lab.
-would. would it be too ridiculously angsty of me to ask for varian to inject ruddiger with the growth serum onscreen. because i kind of want that.
-blood during the finale. be it cass’, the rocks causing eugene an injury, or a spike plunging through the automaton and across the side of varian’s face, leaving a scar that lasts forever and the very obvious symbolism going hand-in-hand with it.
HONESTLY THIS GOES FOR S2 AS WELL.
-cass actually struggling with her rotted hand.
-rapunzel making excuses to herself that no, she’s not just ignoring her problems all over again, because she’s traveling! she’s figuring out how to stop the black rocks! it’s fine!
-treating lance being poisoned with way more depth, because. like. that shouldn’t be made into a funny scene. we can let lance not be the comedic black best friend once. i’m begging you.
-flashbacks to corona and varian’s prison breakout, along with his internal redemption and andrew manipulating him.
-cass’ transformation into moon cass visibly making her look more gaunt, like how the flower healed gothel but in reverse. also having her be possessed by zhan tiri, at least for part of her arc.
okay fine we’re going into season three because this post is spiraling out of control
-letting varian sacrifice himself for corona, except there’s obviously some magic thing that still saves him. but that really should have been his redemption moment. the climax. *”there was room for two on that door, rose” voice* there was room for two inside that hair shield, rapunzel!
-either making quirin actually dead or at least doing some kind of fakeout.
-king edmund showing more signs of mental illness.
-multiple episodes where lance is at least featured with angry & cat. slowly but surely maturing enough to adopt them.
-varian’s voice getting more strained in “nothing left to lose” after being hit with the rocks. (jeremy jordan is an insane-level performer— i know he could’ve sold that so well and i’m baffled why they didn’t tell him to.)
-zhan tiri being much, much creepier.
-cass deteriorating more physically than just being pale, causing people to naturally show sympathy for her instead of. you know. a sadistic grin as she wields a sword effortlessly.
-the moonstone not healing cass’ disability.
-varian either getting to freak out inside that rock cage, or us seeing him consciously force his panic down. he’s still human even though he’s a genius, and he was confined hundreds of feet above the ground for about a day.
-not recreating the new dream moments in the finale, but giving us some original cass stuff that means just as much. this also comes with seeing what killed cass.
-making it clear that varian chose the role of royal engineer. also that he got to bring hot running water to his village first, the way he wanted to.
-depending on how cass’ arc is handled, either letting her be captain of the guard or exiling her with a hint that she’ll return to rapunzel in secret.

Jensen was excited about the hiatus and more than ready to have Y/N home. There, they began to correct and make things right between themselves. Y/N had already spent time packing and shipping some items, so come morning, all they had to do was grab their travel bags and go.
Y/N made sure that she strictly followed the laws. Her collar was on and clearly visible. She kept her head down, mouth shut, and followed Jensen's lead, which she noticed put him at ease. He'd have less to worry about when she 'acted right,' and she tried not to beat herself up over doing that to him, even if she didn't mean to.
The studio had arranged a smaller, private flight for Jensen and Jared, so they didn't have to worry about traveling with an Omega like before. However, they couldn't avoid the paparazzi entirely, who were outside his condo building and waiting at the airport. With all the pictures, he knew someone would catch his mark, and the news would likely blow up by the time they landed in Texas.
Jared, Jensen, and Clif worked to shield Y/N as they boarded the small jet, and soon enough, they were in the air. Jensen let out a long breath, finally feeling like he could relax, if only for a moment.
Jensen relaxed in his reclined seat as Y/N and Jared chatted together. She seemed utterly comfortable around Jared, relaxing and laughing as he talked with her. He'd never seen her quite so animated and alive. The thought made jealousy bubble up again that another Alpha could have that effect on her.
But he knew Jared was only trying to make her feel better and included. He was looking out for her because he considered them family and pack. Except it occurred to Jensen that he was the only thing Y/N had. If something happened to him, she'd be alone and in danger.
He thought it might be in her best interest if they were a pack. Jared could be registered as an alternate Alpha—instead of a father, brother, or uncle—and could be a legal pack member. Jensen was confident that Jared would take care of her if anything happened.
When Y/N excused herself to the restroom, Jensen took the opportunity to talk alone with Jared. While he would need to speak with Y/N, he could start with Jared and see if he would be willing to do so.
"Hey, Jare?" Jensen spoke as he settled next to him. "I was just thinking, you know, about how alone Y/N and I are or feel."
"Hey man, you know I'm here for you. Both of you."
"We're practically pack," Jensen nervously chuckled. "But I was thinking maybe we could make that legal."
"What?" Jared chuckled.
"I want you to be her alternate Alpha in case anything happens."
Jared was quiet for a moment as he thought it over. "Have you talked to her about it?"
"Not yet."
Jared nodded, "I need to talk to Gen, but I think it's a good idea."
Jensen smiled and patted Jared's thigh before returning to his seat just as Y/N returned. She paused to peck his lips before returning to her seat and talking with Jared. This time, Jensen wasn't jealous. Instead, he was grateful and settled in for a nap.
-
While all three were well-rested on the flight, it didn't take long before the guys were full-on Alpha, and Y/N was panicking. She focused on the laws and what was required of Omegas. The overwhelming scents of angry and protective Alphas filled the sealed cabin, soothing and choking the Omega.
As feared, news of Jensen's claim had gone viral. When they landed, his phone was flooded with social media messages and messages from friends and family. Most of the messages he received were supportive. The media and public had mixed reactions, further fueled by the international debate over Omega's Rights.
Thankfully, Clif got them from the plane and took them to their respective homes without incident. As the doors of their homes closed, shutting out the world behind them, Jensen and Y/N let out a collective sigh of relief.
"I'm so happy to be home," Y/N sighed.
The last time they were here was like a honeymoon. The trip to Vancouver hadn't been as great as they had hoped. Back in their home, their nest, where their family would one day grow, they could move past the ugliness and into a happy normal.
"Me too," Jensen agreed, wrapping his arms around her from behind and kissing behind her ear.
She tilted her head as he brushed her hair to the side, gently removing her collar before carelessly tossing it somewhere in the room. Her eyes followed where it landed, and she fought the urge to retrieve it. Instead, she gave in to the sensations that jolted through her as her Alpha kissed sweetly over his claim.
Turning in his arms, her eyes landed on her claim on his neck. Gently covering it with her hand, she fought back tears. Once again, he was facing worry and ruin because of her.
"Don't," Jensen interrupted her thoughts, feeling as if he could hear her through their renewed bond.
"I feel like I just make things worse for you. If I just behaved-" She cut herself off, sobbing.
Jensen kissed her, deep and passionate, trying not only to chase away her invasive thoughts but to show her how wrong she was. He was grateful for her, loved her, and would do anything for her happiness.
Jensen scooped her into his arms, delighted in her surprised squeal and giggle. She buried her face against his neck as he carried her upstairs. Teasing him, she kissed and nipped at her claim. He growled as he burst into the bathroom, putting her on her feet only to cup her face and kiss her fiercely.
"Get naked," Jensen spoke against her lips, and he hastily removed his clothes. She grinned and followed his command, knowing it was a request. One she was all too eager to comply with.
The moment she was nude, Jensen had her in his arms, kissing her as he ushered her into the shower. He turned on the water, kissing and caressing as the water cascaded down upon them. He needed her to feel and know he wasn't upset with her, disappointed, or having regrets about anything between them. It was the world that was wrong, not them.
Driven by a desperate need to prove himself, Jensen turned Y/N against the tiled shower wall and dropped to his knees. She gasped and clung to him as he lifted one of her legs on his shoulder, opening her up for him. He places kisses from her knee and up her thigh, building her up for what was coming.
It didn't take long for him to have her coming, her sweet tang on his tongue easing his cravings for her. He left her leaning against the wall, catching her breath, watching her with a sly grin as he hastily washed himself.
Once Y/N gathered herself, she was flushed and hungry for her Alpha. Returning his grin with a coy smile, she lowered to her knees, desperate to taste him. Jensen stopped her, lifted her to her feet, and kissed the pout from her lips.
"Not yet," he spoke as he turned, putting her under the warm spray. "Let me?" he asked, holding a washcloth.
Y/N bit her lip and nodded, letting Jensen bathe her from head to toe. He lingered, kissing in various spots, gently washing her skin. It both relaxed and aroused her. Once the water was off, Jensen dried them off before scooping Y/N in his arms. He carried her into the bedroom and laid her gently on the bed, climbing over her as he did, keeping them close.
The silence enhanced every look and touch. Neither of them needed words to understand what the other wanted and needed. They moved in sync, changing positions and taking turns giving and taking pleasure, driving it out until the need to release was too much to bear.
With a final change, Y/N was on her knees, legs wide and belly pressed into the mattress as she presented and mewled for her Alpha. Jensen groaned in approval, sliding deep within her core, a feeling of coming home. Angling his hips, Jensen fucked Y/N hard as he drove them both toward their final release.
Y/N came first with a shout, Jensen's knot popping and locking them together as they rode their highs. Kissing her claim, Jensen carefully moved them to their sides to spoon while they waited for Jensen's knot to recede.
-
Leaning her hip against the frame, Y/N gazed out of the glass doors into the backyard, sipping at her coffee as the sun began to rise. She had already made breakfast, knowing her Alpha would wake soon.
As if thinking him into existence, she smelled her Alpha before his hands slid around her waist from behind. Her eyes fluttered closed, and she hummed content, tilting her head as Jensen placed featherlight kisses around his claim.
"Morning, Alpha," she whispered, turning in his arms. She handed him her mug, giggling as he mumbled something that sounded like "mornin'" and chugged the remainder of the coffee. Without a word, Y/N took the mug and maneuvered around Jensen, pouring two fresh cups and handing him one.
"You cooked?" Jensen asked, finally awake enough to speak and notice the food.
Y/N simply smiled and prepared him a plate. Setting it on the table, she ushered Jensen to sit, kissed him on the head, and headed to make herself a plate.
Before Jensen could take a bite, a knock on the door interrupted their morning. Glancing at the clock, Jensen saw it was only nine in the morning. Looking through the peephole, he saw a large man with an OE badge hanging on a lanyard around his neck.
Y/N could sense the presence of an Alpha other than Jensen. She took a deep breath and rushed to retrieve her collar. Another series of knocks sounded as she secured her collar in place, and Jensen opened the door to greet the man.
"Jensen Ackles?"
Jensen huffed as he stood tall and squared his shoulders, nodding minutely to the Alpha on his doorstep—a threat to him and his Omega. The man smirked at Jensen's display.
"My name is Gus Fowler, Omega Enforcement Officer assigned to you and your Omega's probationary cases. May I come in?"
Jensen wasn't sure if he had given access or if Agent Fowler had forced his way in as they moved in sync, granting him entry to their home. He couldn't refuse him if he wanted to, not without causing even more trouble for Y/N and himself. Jensen closed the door, focusing on the Alpha in their home as Agent Fowler glanced around the place.
Y/N stood still in the foyer, her head bowed and hands clasped in front of her, silent and waiting. Jensen hadn't even seen her out on the collar. He'd never seen her so obedient, which made him feel sick and enraged. She knew Jensen was uncomfortable and decided to take the lead.
"Welcome to our home, Agent Fowler," Y/N greeted, her eyes and head lowered to the ground as she spoke. "I have just made breakfast and coffee."
"Coffee would be great," he answered, following Y/N with a satisfied smirk.
Pulling out a chair, Y/N gestured for him to sit as she moved to the kitchen. Jensen sat at the table, focused entirely on the Alpha in his home. Y/N brought coffee service to the table, setting the tray between the men and standing off to the side like a servant awaiting orders.
Now, Jensen was thoroughly confused. First, he had no idea they even owned a coffee service, but it was a pleasant and seemingly useful surprise. Second, Y/N was acting entirely out of character. She was the picture of an obedient Omega and wife, to a point that made his stomach churn. It was everything he didn't want for her.
He knew she had been studying. Now, he could see that put to work, playing her part to the legal letter. She was sending him soothing vibes to keep him calm, but it was only helping so much.
Agent Fowler smirked as he looked over Y/N and prepared a cup of coffee for himself.
"Can your Omega join us?" he asked Jensen as he sipped.
Nodding, Jensen gestured Y/N to him on his side, out of reach of the other man. Agent Fowler grinned at the action, opening a file and sipping his drink. Y/N kept her gaze on the table. Jensen kept his hand firmly on her thigh, both protective and possessive.
"So, as I mentioned, I'm here on behalf of the OE to explain your probationary terms now that you're home and on break."
Jensen tried not to scoff. This man represented everything Jensen had come to despise. While making it seem like a courtesy call, he knew it was anything but.
"I'll start with the Omega."
"Y/N," Jensen spoke through gritted teeth.
"Very well," Fowler jotted down notes with a huff before continuing. "Y/N. As of now, you are not to leave this property unless you are with Jensen or another authorized Alpha."
"I understand," Y/N whispered, trying to fight back her emotions and remain calm for her Alpha's sake. She could feel he was on edge, and she didn't want either of them to suffer further.
"I'd like to add an alternate Alpha," Jensen requested.
"Are they blood or pack relation to you or Y/N?"
"We're a pack," Jensen responded. "Just not on paper yet."
"Alright," Fowler nodded, pulling papers from his file and handing them to Jensen with a pen. "If you fill out these forms, I can submit the pack and Alpha registrations for you."
Jensen huffed but began completing the forms. Perhaps naively, he thought this would be a quick visit. He hadn't even talked to Y/N about his talk with producers. The OE wasn't messing around and determined that he and Y/N would comply with their terms.
As Jensen completed and returned the forms, Agent Fowler put them away and focused on the Alpha.
"Mr. Ackles, you have been ordered to complete Alpha Ownership and Rut Management classes. The OE has coordinated through your manager and lawyer on your schedule, so there are no overlaps, and you can complete the legal requirements without issue."
Jensen growled under his breath as Fowler jotted more notes. He was constantly making notes as he spoke, questioned, and observed.
"As discussed with your team, you cannot leave the state until the classes are completed; all other things fit around that."
Jensen sat a little taller, and his eyes narrowed at the Alpha across from him. Fowler’s eyes drifted to the claim on Jensen’s neck, his disapproval evident.
“I recommend you cover that,” Fowler said as he jotted more notes, gesturing to the claim with his pen. “At least while you’re attending classes.”
“Is it illegal for an Alpha to have a claim?”
Fowler sighed, dropping his pen and clasping his hands together as he looked between the pair before him.
“No. No laws prevent an Alpha from being claimed by their Omega. But it is frowned upon and might make things harder for you, especially with other Alphas.”
Fowler sighed again, some of the tension and assertiveness going out of him. “Look, I’m not here to judge you. I’m here to enforce the law. Whether I or you agree with it or not, the law is the law.”
Agent Fowler jotted down a few more notes before finishing, standing from his seat and tucking the chair back in. “I’ll visit with your Alpha friend and complete the Alternate and Pack establishment registration. You’ll receive official copies, which should only be a few days, a week at the most. Here’s a copy of the schedule for your classes.”
“I’ll show you out,” Jensen grumbled, kissing Y/N’s head before following Fowler to the door.
The second the door closed behind him, Y/N took a deep breath, relaxing a little from all the stress. She dashed out the back glass door into the garden, inhaling a deep breath with her eyes closed. The overwhelming stench of Alphas in a pissing contest wasn’t doing her any favors. Jensen was so angry and on edge with having an unwanted person and Alpha in his home. It took everything she had to keep her composure and not whine over her Alpha’s distress.
“Omega?”
Y/N turned to see Jensen approaching her with an inquisitive gaze, though he was still agitated, and his scent was thick.
“I’m so sorry.”
“For what? You were fucking perfect in there,” Jensen defended. “Which, by the way, really freaked me out.”
“You have to go through all of this because of me because I wasn’t a good and proper Omega.”
“Y/N-”
“I’m so sorry,” she whined, and Jensen could no longer resist the urge to have her in his arms.
He hugged her tight as she dealt with her surge of emotions. He could feel the rollercoaster inside her and gave her the comfort she desperately needed, taking the chance to scent her, her essence calming him.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about my talk with the producers, Jared, or any of it,” Jensen softly spoke. “I was going to this morning, but I didn’t know he was coming, so he just dropped all that.”
“It’s okay,” she said. “I knew after everything and the claim that you’d probably have to talk to someone about it. Again, my fault.”
“Stop.” Jensen insisted, pulling back just enough to capture her gaze and hold it firmly. “The world is wrong, Baby, not us.”
Y/N nodded and smiled, tucking herself back into his hold, her head under his chin as she soaked up his warm and rich scent, now less angry and more just him. One way or another, they’d get through this. Together.

So, opinions over the crows being a found family trope under the cut. If you go under the cut then it´s no longer on me but on you if you get mad
First: i obviously don't own the trope, i am just interested in character dynamics , the difference between fanfic treatment, headcanons and what we actually see on page. So i have a simple question to evaluate if , to me, they fit the trope:
"Do they SEE each other as family? (therefore: do they fit?)"
And i think to anwser we should stop doing what we always do and take them as a sole character because the point of the books have always been how they are all their own person so the right thing seems to look at them individually.
I already made a post on how the crows feel about each other, not all of them love all individuals there (ex: Matthias only loves Nina and only Jesper loves Wylan) but that´s not completely needed to be considered a found family , at least under my understandment of it.
Examples of what i think fit would be three:
-As prove they don't have all to love each other, the foxes from AFTG, Neil doesn't love all of them, doesn't love his brother in law and barely tolerates his cousin in law but he sees the foxes as a sole entity that becomes his family, those are his people
-The grisha squad on the same books, they don't exactly love each other individually but they consider themselves a group, their squad is pretty much separated from the other members of the army despite having all different ranks.
So the argument on the levels of love differing is not actually an obstacle to being considered a foud family.
So the question, are they one?
The awnser is a bit obnoxious but is the best way to put it then: It strongly depends on the pov
To Wylan? It´s obvious since he has this whole paragrah over his being his only friends ever, to Wylan they are his found family and he loves each member even if he is only actually close to two of them
To Kaz? Of all people susprisingly yes. He doesn't love all of them, he doesn't love Wylan, nor Nina, definitely not Matthias. Still, he constructs the Silver Six. Let´s take in count many of the dregs have been around more than Nina, Matthias and Wylan, three of them even try to stop him getting beating up, yet Kaz doesn´t give them the same treatment or thought, to him the group of six he went to the ice court with is the special one worth naming a club after. So in Kaz´s pov it counts. Yet despite being the main character, his pov is not the only pov.
While Wylan and Kaz are an obviously "yes" Nina and Matthias are an obvious "no"
Matthias exclusively sees Nina as family, he can be fond of the other crows but they are definitely not even close to family.
Nina can be without saying, she might love Inej, Matthias and Jesper but (with the exception of Matthias cause she is still mourning him) she doesn`t even consider them home, she thinks about Ravka as much (or even more) as often as she thinks about them. These are people she loved, that were important to her growth and keeps deeply in her heart, but they are no family in any way. It helps that, unlike most of the crows, Nina has a bigger social circle independent of them.
Now Jesper i think it´s complicated. He loves 5/6 and considers family 5/6 of them yet, does he consider them a group?
To explain my point i want to use yet another example:
-Katniss from the hunger games doesn't have exactly a group and she still has a family on her mother, husband and children, but you can get some characters she still considered family like Finnick, Haymith, maybe Rue if she had more time and before breaking ties with him, she did see Gale as part of her family. So it´s not like she has a group of people that are found family to each other, she gets individuals she considers as such, but thats in relation to her, not necesarily them forming a group.
To Jesper i recall it´s a group united by a common need but not exactly one he can consider a family, at least not on the way Wylan expresses it. Still, i think it´s too close to name it a "no"
Inej to me is a bit complicated too but less ambiguous than Jesper, with her i can say a definitive. She considers Kaz, Nina and Jesper as part of her family, but she same, she doesn't group them, to her it´s the individual conection and not seeing all of them as a family. So if you only take Inej´s pov in question then no, they are not.
The reason that it came to my attention was that someone made a psot saying
"If the crows aren't found family then what is this" and...it´s pretty much a backfiring proof
It was the paragraph of the crow´s goodbye to Matthias and it certainly prover everything i just said. And maybe it was on purpose to stablish the dynamics that the pov is from Jesper, the one who sort of liked Matthias the less.
Wylan does show love to Matthias and behaves as he lost a family member, picking up tulips for him, he doesn't comfort Nina like Jesper and Inej do, he actually is there for Matthias.
Kaz would later pay his respects for the silver six club.
Jesper and Inej very clearly don't love Matthias here, neither consider him a family. Sure they are hurt he is gone, they came to respect him and Jesper is thankfull for him saving his life, not to say lament someone as young as them is leaving the world just as he redeemed himself. Unlike Nina and on a way lesser extent, Wylan, they are not feeling like they lost a beloved one. Their words about him are towards Nina, to comfort her. So it doesn´t work as a proof that the six crows are a found family, it´s a proof of how much Jesper and Inej love Nina.
Now, there is obviously nothing wrong with hc them as such, writing them as such in fanfics or on tumblr au posts or memes. This is just studying character dynamics.
It CAN be taken too far thought, such as when people say Inej and Nina should have stayed on Ketterdam just for the sake of found family, ignoring Marya in favor of Kaz as a "parent figure" or that Nina was nothing without the other crows and her ending sucked because she is no longe with them (ignoring completely she called Ravka her home many times). That kind of takes are very shallow and prioritize fanservice over character narrative.

TWST oc Blanche Primrose
Tumblr media
“I believe we’ve met before. Perhaps…once upon a dream.”
Voice claim: Nobara-Jujutsu Kaisen
Character info
Tumblr media
Blanche is a typically headstrong girl. Her temper isn’t as bad as some of the other students but she’ll call out others wrong doings. If she’s not doing anything too important or tedious then she’ll often be found day dreaming. Now as a second year she is fully herself and many of the students see her as a sisterly figure as she always checks up on people and make sure they’re taking care of themselves.
The summer before she started attending NRC, she was told by her grandmother that Blanche is expected to be enrolled at a stuffy all girls private school that her grandma attended. Later that night a raven delivered a letter to her windowsill that spoke of how she was recommended to be a student at NRC by a few upperclassmen. She knew that night that she was going to choose her own fate rather than a path that her grandmother curated for her. As she pretended to be a boy at NRC she chopped her hair into a pixie cut and when Vil first saw her he wanted to faint but understood what she was trying to do. Eventually her grandmother found out about the ruse but allowed her to keep attending NRC since it made her so happy.
Fun facts: She used to live in the same town as Jack and Vil and they’ve been friends since they were kids. She spent her first few months at school pretending to be a boy since, as far as her grandma knew, she was at that stuffy private school. Her red sweater was originally her mother’s. She’s half wolf beastfolk. That same summer before coming to NRC she would frequently dream of meeting a young man with silver hair.

Talent: Quick thinking (does not equal smart thinking)/Singing
Unique Magic: Thorny Heart, she can grow thorny vines around her and even grow various plants from the vines. Such as ones that are just pretty or ones that have medicinal values. Sometimes when she’s startled she just SPROUTS the thorns and freaks everyone out for a second.
Character dynamics
Vil: Childhood friend number 1. He’s like a mother hen towards her, constantly fretting over her grades and appearance. It drives her up a wall but she knows he means well. These habits are especially prominent when she first starts attending.
Jack: Childhood friend number 2. They first met when Jack was playing outside and he found her picking berries in the forest while she was wearing a hooded red cape. As schoolmates they’re both striving to help the other. That could be helping each other study or timing track runs.
Rook: Creepy dorm mate. Honestly, she doesn’t like him, like at all. She knows he possibly means well but he still unnerves her. They have lots of debates in French.
Ruggie: She didn’t trust him at first, his scheming made her nervous every time she heard him giggling. Now as second years and in the same class, she scolds him when he steals stuff but she always makes extra food so he can have some as well.
Silver: Love interest. Despite the dreams during summer, they didn’t recognize each other until way later, like Book 5 later. After that it was nothing but sweet sweet slow burn but one thing’s for sure. Everyone loves silver and gold.
Malleus: They both get a weird sense of deja vu when they’re first getting acquainted. They met one night when they stumbled upon each others walking routes. Neither could place it but they felt as if they had met before. Maybe in a dream, maybe a different time entirely. They get along and teach each other a lot, eventually Malleus joined in on Lilia’s teasing when it came to her and Silver together.

Hi there! I recently came across your blog and I really have enjoyed your takes and analysis on Katara and Aang’s relationship. I was wondering if I could hear your thoughts on a common thing I’ve seen antis bringing up a lot lately. So I’ve been seeing antis talk a lot about how the creators have apparently said in interviews or whatever that Katara and Aang’s relationship was conceived as a relationship where Aang has a crush on her but Katara sees him as a little brother and is akin to a kid having a crush on his babysitter. I’ve been seeing this take a lot lately about how creepy it is that the creators themselves have said that Katara and Aang’s relationship was like a kid with a crush on his babysitter and how weird it is that they wanted to turn such a dynamic into a romantic one and basically ahving been using it as fuel to go ‘see even the creators acknowledge that Kataang has a creepy/weird mother-son type of relationship that suddenly turns romantic!’
As for me I feel like if the creators really have said that that’s very weird of them to do that and it seems like they have some major dissonance between those comments they made and what they actually portrayed in the show. I never got the vibe that Katara is acting like Aang’s babysitter in the show.
Sure sometimes Katara has to take charge and remind the others of their responsibilities when they’re getting a little too distracted by having fun but she also joins in on the fun most of the time. A lot of friends groups have that one friend who takes on that role that Katara sometimes does where they go “okay we’ve had our fun but we need to focus now”. Even Sokka takes on that role sometimes.
I just really do not understand why the creators made that bizarre babysitter comment but I am constantly seeing antis bringing it up now and it’s frustrating. I would love to hear what you have to say on the matter as I really love to read your defenses of Kataang.
From what I know, the clip that is being referred to is in description of the original concept for atla. You know, the one where Katara was Kya, Toph was a buff 16 year old boy with a soul patch who was meant to be in a love triangle with Katara, and Zuko's scar was on the wrong side. Safe to say, not the best indicator about the atla we actually got. Maybe Katara and Aang's relationship was originally meant to be such, however, as they grew from those original concepts, their relationship also became much more fleshed out and nuanced.
Tumblr media
Because really, when watching the show, you really need an agenda to force Katara and Aang into that Mother/Son relationship. I'll focus mostly on Kataang rn, but I do wanna one day talk abt how "Momtara" hurts other characters as well, particularly Sokka, who has been done SO DIRTY by certain parties, it's ridiculous.
I think a lot of Momtara "rethoric" relies on minimising Katara's childish qualities, while magnifying her "motherly" qualities, and doing the reverse to the rest of the Gaang (sans Zuko, who also often gets the parentification treatment). Which often feels rather insulting to all the characters involved. It, of course, minimizes Aang, Sokka and Toph, all capable in their own rights, to Katara's helpless dependents. And it curtails a lot of Katara's strengths too.
For example, the Desert is often shown as an example of Katara being the motherly one, as the rest of the group are out of comission, and Katara is the one to keep them all together. But presenting it as "everyone is incompetent so Katara obviously had to pick up the slack" takes away from what an Amazing character episode this is for Katara. I don't wanna repeat myself, but here's a post of me gushing about the episode. But I think Katara calming Aang out of the Avatar State is such an amazing crowning jewel for how she was focused on in the episode, and it is an attocity to flatten this momentous scene into a "mother comforting her tantrom throwing child" situation.
Tumblr media
Katara and Aang connect over their grief over the genocides they are both survivors of, and Aang's avatar state is often a manifestation of the anger, pain and sorrow of that grief. The first time Katara pulls him out of it, she is directly speaking to his grief and empathising with him over it- something she does with many other characters. So, unless she was also mothering Haru, Jet, Zuko and fucking Hama- this argument rings hollow.
If we want to play semantics with chore splitting, almost every member of the Gaang (and especially Aang and Sokka) have been shown to bring the group food, or provide the group with drinking water and do other chores around the group. Yes, while we see Katara do the "domestic" chores often, and it is important to give her ber flowers for it, it is important to note that she is not the only one putting in the work to keep the group taken care of. Outside of the chores usually mentioned around camp, we see that Sokka is the one who does a lot of planning around timetables, and Aang seems to be the one with the most geographical knowledge and ability to chart courses due to being a nomad.
Tumblr media
Katara : So Toph, usually when setting up camp, we try to divide up the work. Toph: [Shrugging casually.] Hey, don't worry about me. I'm good to go. Katara: Well, actually what I'm trying to say is, [Holds arms out in gesture.] some of us might fetch water, while someone else might set up the fire pit, or put up the tent. [Momo flies over to her, dropping several berries he had collected into her hands.] Even Momo does his fair share.
Similarly, the Gaang pass around the role of voice of reason, depending on who is the most predisposed to be in posession of the sacred braincell at the time. They all have their moments to shine, not because those surrounding them are idiots or incompetent, but because everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and the reasin the Gaang is such a good unit is because they are a group that works together well and fills in for each others weaknesses and strengths.
While we call them a found family, and rightfully so, they aren't an actual family unit. There are no set providers and dependents, and there are certainly no parents. They're children forming a shockingly well rounded community, and they all have their bouts of childishness.
While Aang is known for his childishness and immaturity , he also has displays of shocking maturity and wisdom for someone his age. This duality is honestly one of my most favourite aspects of him.
I also find it interesting that Aang has actively been posited to parallel both of Katara's parents, which is an aspect of their relationship that is rarely discussed. The scenes of Kya and Aang sacrificing themselves to the fire nation are incredibly similar, their dialogues lining uo hauntingly well, even in how they reassure Katara when they are the ones about to be harmed. And, in the Awakening, we see Katara's abandonment issues surrounding her father also apply to Aang, which is a wonderful aspect of her character that doesn't get discussed nearly enough.
Tumblr media
Katara: Aang. He just took his glider and disappeared. He has this ridiculous notion that he has to save the world alone, that it's all his responsibility. Hakoda: Maybe that's his way of being brave. Katara: It's not brave; it's selfish and stupid! We could be helping him, and I know the world needs him, but doesn't he know how much we need him, too? How can he just leave us behind? Hakoda : You're talking about me too, aren't you?
This is not to flip the cat on its head and start claiming that Aang is playing the role of parent to Katara, but rather to add to the fact that Aang is one of the only characters to fully acknowledge Katara as a child, like him, and help her attempt to heal that inner child. Aang is also one of the most encouraging characters towards her, supporting many of her endeavours. And no, not in a manner a child idealises their mother. He's capable of disagreeing with her, they just seem to share many interests and goals, like most compatible couples lol.
Aang trying to make sure Katara feels included, supporting her, helping mitigate her insecurities are not the actions of an unaware toddler, but a kid who intuited his friends needs and is keepubg them in mind because he cares for her. We see Katara gets very insecure that she's not "fun" and Aang has been shown joking with her and encouraging her to join in on fun. We see him reassure her in her waterbending abilities multiple times because he know her identity as a waterbender is very dear to her.
Tumblr media
Of course everyone talked abt the penguin scene, but it really is such a good basis for their relationship.
At her core, Katara is a young girl. A brave, talented, strong, kind girl with too much on her shoulders and too much pain in her past. But still a girl. She has her bouts of childishness she doesn't fully know how to express her feelings and articulate herself, she can be naive and immature, and silly and playful and that is all ok. Frankly, it makes my skin crawl to see that part of her identity stripped away in fanon.
Last year I made the observation that to those who care only for Katara the woman, Katara the child means little to nothing. The little girl she once was is perceived as long dead, and to be avenged, not a dormant part of her that can be nurtured back into bloom. Yes, Katara had to grow up faster than most, play at being an adult for the benefit of those around her. But that doesn't mean she isn't young, that she cannot heal from that, especially with the war ending.
And yes, that healing will involve Aang, because the role he played in her life is crucial.
Tumblr media
Many have pointed out that presenting Katara as a motherly figure falls into the uncomfortable trend of presendinh girls of colour, especially black and brown girls, as more mature than their lighter peers. I don't think everyone who likes this fanon interpretation is a horrid misogynistic, I think many people, particularly women and girls, who experienced some form of parentification see themselves in Katara and find a noble sacrifice, or some manner of catharsis in the idea of her being a longsuffering, neglected mother figure. Which, if that floats your boat- indulge in that, enjoy it. But it is bending the text rather massively, as Katara and the group act more as a balanced community than standard family unit, and Katara states multiple times that she is uncomfortable and upset by the "mother" label being placed on her, and it doesn't describe her perfectly either, which is highlighted several times.

Late game spoilers, particulary about Varric! I wasn't able to put this into words before, but now that I've had some time, I think I can actually talk about it. It's a little long though.
I tried to start a new playthrough three times now, but I can't even make it to the ritual side without breaking down. It is, frankly, embarrassing.
But Varric means so, so much to me. I knew deep down that he wouldn't make it out of this alive - that he even survived past DA2 was a surprise to me. The man's got tragic death written all over him! But I still wish we had gotten some more out of him. Some more interactions with the companions, more banter, more relationship dynamics. We never even found out what he would have called the others! (Aside from Neve, who was 'Slick', apparently.)
This isn't even a criticism of the writing! I think it makes sense and fits his character, sadly. (Though it's also the first time they actually managed to make me hate Solas, which is quite a feat.) It's just me being heartbroken about one of - or maybe even my ultimate - comfort character. I played DA2 (and the others, too, but DA2 holds a special place in my heart in this regard) during a time in my life where I was very much just... lost, I guess. God. I think I actually felt physical fucking grief when I went through the Fade prison scene? I was shaking and sobbing the whole time and I don't know if I have it in me again.
I'm a bookseller by trade and Varric loving stories always resonated with me. He's often reduced to being the sarcastic sidekick, but I love all his aspects and complexities so very dearly.
The son who didn't ever quite fit in with the society he grew up in, who couldn't hold up to his parents expectations and so instead refused to be tied down by them, but still had a deep love for his family.
The man who was so tragically in love with a woman he couldn't have that he made her his little secret, keeping Bianca's identity even from his best friends. Who probably still didn't let go of his yearning all those years later, maybe because it was easier than opening up and getting hurt again.
The one who was always bickering with Cassandra, this steely woman he was always at odds with, but still wrote her a continuation for his romance series he didn't even think was good because beneath all of his veneer, he still cared.
Who was presented with this half-spirit half-boy and saw just a squirrely kid who needed some help to find his place in the world. (And yeah, this is special to me. Because god damn it, I never had someone like that growing up, and I would have given all my limbs and a kidney for it.)
Who was so, so full of compassion himself, despite all the shit the world had already thrown at him.
I don't know. Maybe I just have a thing for people who try to lock their hurt away so not even they, themselves, have to confront it. (Maybe because I'm a little like that myself and maybe that's why I like Lucanis so much, as well. Damn you, Mary Kirby.)
But anyway. Sorry for the vent. I just needed someplace to share this, I guess. I don't know what to do with this hole in my chest, but props to Bioware (and damn you again, Mary Kirby) for putting it there, because it's definitely not normal for me to care this much. I wasn't even this sad when I had to leave my Hawke in the Fade. Maybe they'll finally find each other again, wherever they are now 💔

Hallooo everynyan
yee it is my headcanons of the relationships between the characters, the way how i see it (just hear me out, if you can read)(und i fell like shit, so I need to write for a while, and then I'll start drawing again, and also i want you to know who you're contacting when you see this mindset >:))
in general, it is difficult to do this, given that the characters do not interact with each other at all from the word at all, but you can fantasize. And I can even fantasize in this context :)
I consider this as in the approximate canons of the game and generally do not like that everything would be so easy. Everything should start with a little intrigue, so not everyone has a love relationship and stuff at once, yeee...I know it might be boring for you, but accept it from me that I'm nerd 🤓
Tumblr media
lmao good luck sorting this out. I went overboard so much, but I hope that everything is roughly clear there ":)
btw, I'll explain the most complicated relationships I have, which I find quite funny, and I haven't noticed anyone else making the same assumptions yet. Therefore, I will say what I cannot keep silent about 😔🗣️if you want, you can ask me questions about this or anything else! I won't mind at all, and I can still take requests!! I need to do something while I can't draw funny drawings.
Glass Joe&Von Kaiser. Glass is not as cute as he seems, although he is a little silly (but everyone there is a little silly, so this is the norm, lmao)
if you know history you will understand 🔽🔽🔽
Tumblr media
The relationship between Kaiser and Joe is really similar to that of an elderly married couple, although they themselves are unaware of it. Joe and Kaiser are the oldest there, so it seems to me that they started their boxing careers a long time ago and have known each other for a long time. Joe also has patriotic tendencies like Kaiser (none of the other guys shout about their country as loudly as he does, lol). Therefore, it seems to me that they must have had a conflict on this ground. When they were both in their prime, they started arguing over who could last the longest in boxing. Joe recognizes strength only in spirit, while Kaiser recognizes physical strength and discipline. And maybe it started when they were over 27 (for Joe) or 30 (for Kaiser). And now, these weirdos are still in the ring, refusing to give up on each other. The Frenchman already has problems with his head physically, and the German mentally (how ironic), but these stubborn sheep do not give up. These many years hand in hand have brought them very close and they can be considered best friends, because sometimes they can just peacefully exist side by side. But, nevertheless, taunts and insults jokingly pass between them, i like that dynamic ✺◟(∗❛ัᴗ❛ั∗)◞✺
Besides, it seems to me that these guys obviously knew Doc when he was still in good shape. They probably remember how he defeated them in the ring, and perhaps the legendary "star punch" performed by Mac. Of course, they wouldn't have recognized Doc now, but they would have found out about it after the second round, it would have been a pleasant reunion of old acquaintances. They have respect for him, so they will treat Mac more kindly than as a destroyer of their skulls.
Don Flamenco&Carmen&Super Macho Man. Oh-Ho-ho-hon yeeee-..I like this ༼ง=ಠ益ಠ=༽งIn my opinion-..Okay, let's assume that the blonde is Carmen Don was talking about (but there's also a theory that Flamenco didn't have anyone in particular, because in Spanish, Carmen is just the epitome of a femme fatale, but okay, let's imagine that he was referring to the very Carmen). For me, she's also as silly as everyone else, so she's the girl who likes to watch men beat each other in the ring and she likes it and she's pretty good at it, knowing almost all the fighters and watching the TV footage if she couldn't buy a ticket. I think she's in love with Flamenco. She doesn't look Spanish, but she probably has Spanish roots, and she lives in America with relatives who live in Spain. For the sake of Flamenco, to see his fight live, she comes to Spain, where a spark broke out between them😍 (yeeeas slaaaayyyy)
Tumblr media
but before they met, she was spotted by a Macho Man. Because I doubt that cool men will spend so much on just one girl out of a thousand, which is clearly a sign of attention on his part. Carmen agreed to chat with him, but she did not find him olfactory, and when he offered to buy her jewelry, she did not expect him to do so and quickly refused, because that heart has long been occupied by someone else...
Tumblr media
And, my God, what a drama, two people in love with the same girl. But she loves only one thing, and that's clear, but the Macho man tries not to show that it hurts him, although he visibly hates Don for it. And Don also hates Macho for the fact that he keeps up with her sometimes, although it's clear that there's something between him and Carmen. That's why they're rivals>:) und blonde is sexy chicka who deserves a happiness 😘
Aran Ryan. Yeeaa, surprisingly, not all the arrows on it are black, but that's because it all depends on other people ;) And hey, hey, Little Mac is the main character! The person we're playing from. Of course it's impersonal and a bit wooden! Therefore, we must identify him for ourselves and mold his character based either on our feelings from the game, or just to amuse ourselves. And I imagine Mac as a very patient boy who just has an inner scream of horror in his head from everything that is happening(what happened to me when I saw from his face who he was fighting with and what he was going through, jajajaha).Although he doesn't show it outwardly, deep down he really gloats, laughs, gets mad as hell, and sometimes does cheeky things and says them.
He kicked Aran's ass, and Aran seems quite pleased and seems to be enjoying it. It seems to me that Aran still saw the same hooligan notes in Mac, so he can consider him a good rival and friend. And in general, Aran finds friends in other people only those who can compete with him, because he is a very strong boy and he is bored with others. But he also likes people who put up with his antics and maybe find them funny if he didn't do them out of spite. Popinsky, Disco Kid, and Lil Mac himself belong to this type.
They are rivals with Don, because they literally go toe-to-toe in all parameters. They are the same age, the same height and both are strong, but I am sure that Aran has moved higher only because he cheated, and the Spaniard did not suspect this at all (for which he now hates him deep down) ༼ᕗຈل͜ຈ༽ᕗ
Heheheh I like that Don has a pretty scandalous personality, which perfectly shows his loss to lil Mac ffhgdsdhsshgrf

do you still ship Val with both Mugman and Cuphead? actually give us a run down of all the Val ships
Here's the thing, yeah? Val is like a little doll that I use to kiss all my favorite Cuphead characters 😤 and because of that, there's probably way more than I am currently remembering at the moment. BUT here's some of the ones that have been on my mind:
Val/Cuphead - Met in high school detention, stayed really good friends afterwards. LOVE to cause trouble together. Real "I can make him worse" vibes. In the same breath, Val would probably pick up on Cuphead's moments of weakness and be there for him without being too overbearing about it.
Val/Mugman - Best Friend's Brother. Val got to watch Mugman go from just Cuphead's twin brother that she never knew too well to Kind of a Hunk?? Val slowly gets more and more nervous around Mugman, and he picks up on it and absolutely EATS UP the attention. Cuphead HATES it, but that makes Mugman want it more??
Val/Chalice - I think it would be Val who starts pining for Chalice first. They're two peas in a pod; very cute, trouble-causing cups, who will sit pretty on the edge of a wall and giggle quietly to themselves, talking about the toons who go past. Val would help Chalice do her makeup 💕
Val/Boba - This one is a comfort for me!! Very "omg they were roommates". Complimenting each other in the best ways where Val gives Boba confidence and Boba bounces sarcasm and jokes back to Val. They are each other's better half :)
Val/Mac - Mac is similar to Cuphead, but a lot kinder and wears his heart on his sleeve more. I can imagine it being a very quiet, unspoken, mutual pining type of relationship. They'd hold hands under the table. I think they'd have their first kiss on the Isle Two Ferris Wheel.
Val/Smith - Now, Smith is similar to Mugman, but a lot rougher! Smith has his sour personality, but he'd probably have a sweet spot and playfully pick on Val instead :) I like the dynamic of Smith (a very rough and tumble country toon) slowly falling for Val (an uptown, pretty city toon). He'd teach her how to ride a bull 👀
Val/Ludwig - Ludwig has this silently dangerous air about him that intrigues Val (he does know something about everyone, after all). He's probably one of the only toons on Isle Three's city district that Val doesn't see as some stuck-up snob. And I always had this image of Val draped over a piano in a nice dress while Ludwig plays (*/ω\*)
I also think I could figure something out regarding Val and some of the bosses (the ones that come to mind are probably Chef Saltbaker, Djimmi the Great, maybe even Cagney Carnation??) but I'd need more time to workshop it.

IMO the structure of HP doesn’t "allow" for a well-written Harry/Ginny romance: the books are protagonist-centered and Harry’s relationship with his best friends and the main Slytherin antagonist are what the books are about. Any romance that is not related to either of these two core elements would always feel "underwritten" or change the nature of the books. To me, if Harry’s romance were to be well-executed and actually be relevant to his story, he would either need to date one of his best friends; but Ron and Hermione are set up romantically themselves, therefore not an option. Any other friend would first have to elevated to Ron/Hermione level of importance and therefore disrupt the Golden Trio dynamic. Or Harry’s love interest is the main Slytherin antagonist; here a 70 year old man…. yikes, therefore NOT an option. Now there is an age-appropriate Slytherin antagonist: Draco Malfoy. Haha.  I remember in the 00s someone saying Harrys love interest shouldve been a slytherin (new character if needed) because it thematically just makes more sense, and even tho I was a Harry/Ginny and remember being like "yes that make sense..."
Eh. Maybe. But I think bringing Ginny more into the narrative would have solved that problem. Hermione gets plenty of development - and turning her relationship with Harry into a romantic relationship would fit very well within the narrative. Same with drarry (though obviously a very different relationship). Even Luna gets plenty of development.
With hinny there's plenty of opportunity but it's not used. We get an intro to her in book 2 and then she just vanishes in book 3 even though, given all the time Harry spends with Ron having him checking in on Ginny and the trauma she's presumably dealing with would be easy. But nope. Book 3 and 4 give us basically nothing.
Then book 5 rolls around and we get reintroduced to Ginny. Great start. But once again she fades out of Harry's narrative in book 6 (and also gets a bad personality makeover) and gets relegated to love interest TM. This, despite the fact that she and Harry can bond over having had up close and person Voldemort encounters and both understand what it's like to have Voldemort inside their heads.
Furthermore, in book 6 Harry is trying to learn everything he can about Tom Riddle. And there's Ginny - a ready made expert. They could have worked together on that and also developed their romance more. But nope. She's totally shunted to the side. In book 7 she could have opened the chamber and destroyed a Horcrux there. She could have been the one to give Harry hope at his lowest point, rather than Luna. But no. She doesn't. She's kind of a non entity other than being the nebulous love interest TM. There's opportunity to do something different but it's not used.
And I don't hate that. I like Harry falling for the idea of someone rather than the reality, and then having that fall apart post war. I buy hinny as is, and I actually think it's more messy and complex and interesting. But only as a relationship that falls apart postwar. Not as the endgame. If JKR wanted it to be endgame she should've written something different. Which she totally could have, but chose not to.

It really depends!  Medieval sexuality was considered under different fundamental and social assumptions than in modern times. So even though what we would now call queer sexualities certainly existed, people of that era would not have sorted themselves into "gay" or "straight" etc in the same way as people do today. This is further complicated by the fact that there were gender standards and ideals, that sometimes correspond to modern  masculine and feminine ideals but sometimes do not.  Because of this, the "starting point" of what historical figures' specific personal sexualities are remain unknown, as all we have to guide us are external reports of their actions and how they were perceived at the time. Gabrielle Storey's article does a really good summary of this in relation to historical masculinities.
Tumblr media
However the good thing about this is that it gives ME a lot of fun creative room to operate, which is what I do (long post so readmore)
Because of sort of more traditional portrayal rather than historical accuracy, in my headcanons I tend to stick with what works with the kinds of stories I'm going for in a way that maybe isn't historically supported BUT also isn't necessarily contradictory (I.e., no one said they DIDNT do xyz...) . I usually go with Richard as gay (very aware of it, flips between not caring and doing purges/penances for it) and Philip as bisexual (doing his best to be the most Unaware of it, leaning really hard on that "Christian brotherhood" excuse). I also like to portray Henry II as bi (no real historical "proof" of this, but every single media I've seen him portrays him as serial womanizer with token yaoi situationships), John is very straight to me but like historically in modern visual media he gets extremely gay-villain-coded in dress and mannerisms which i think is interesting to play around with.  (I've talked about how I like exploring "straightness" in yaoi stuff a lot before, so no surprise to those who know me)
However these are just shorthands bc I find character's internal specific orientations much less interesting than say, their specific relationships to sexuality based on their values. To focus on RichPhil (blorbos bias etc) bc to me Richard's identity was centered around the ability to do knighthood well I can see him being periodically unbothered by various "deviant" habits and behaviors as long as it's private and he "makes up" for it lol, vs Philip whose entire core of identity and masculinity rests on being sacral so would require some more creative delusions (i.e. having trouble coming in a woman? Must be WITCHCRAFT!!!) This is also a big oversimplification of my thoughts/hcs about them (I have a lot on Philip and his relationships with his wives over the years) but u get the gist.
When it comes to the AUs I like trying to keep main things the same but I like being able to translate their complexes into like, modern complexes. Devilsburger is kind of a big cartoon simplification of a lot of things, so characters are in more modern tropes in that kind of young people "coming of age" type of story. So in DB Rich easily falls into that YA yaoi story trope of gay and aware but repressed/private about it bc of father issues so tries to self-define through excelling in other interests/actions, I also see him dabbling in those goofy nofap/volcel types of trends for the kind of porn purging behaviors. DB Philip also to me is more guy who likes girls but struggles to connect with them (bc of sexism but also a level of shelteredness/inexperience), also has guy crushes but doesn't recognize it as such for a while (Christian brotherhood strikes again) so just gets into some weird friend dynamics. Also Henry translates well into a modern type of homophobic divorced bi dad with wild conclusions about gender type lol.
In modern day it's interesting bc we know more about queerness and it's obviously a freer time than in the past but also people still have prejudices and brainworms and concern about safety and how they "look" to people on the outside, and those restrictions are interesting to me. (Henry Jr and John are still straight to me but they also got stuff going on ...I'm bi Geoffrey truther just bc I like giving him issues and also shipping him around. But I like to think he figures himself out in a more timely/healthy way than the others)  In general though, just like with the historical settings, I find characters’ exact identity category labels less interesting than their behaviors and thoughts about themselves in the world.
Yuriburgers is like, an entirely different level from the original AU since thinking about "what if they were girls? What if they were trans?" Kind of adds new types of explorations. Bc of that the sexualities of course have to adapt, although to me it's less trying to keep things "intact" and more trying to think organically how these characters would evolve to relate to themselves and each other in this new context. Also bc there's more freedom I can kind of make up lots of new relationship stuff, so im still kind of exploring it too.
To bring it back to my Pairing tho I think Valerie would still like men but also still have a kind of holy maiden distance feeling about it (I have thoughts about her dynamic with a modern Mercadier character but hmm ..), also it would be funny bc re her feelings for Marie-Denise she would then I guess loop back around to doing the tsundere Yuri denial "well I don't even LIKE girls" song and dance but then still getting involved in various lesbian misadventures (I want to draw her and Henrike doing their weird accidental bdsm and then feeling hmmm about it). Marie Denise I see being more into women but maybe still flirts with guys now and then, despite  not respecting them very much lol (the sacral is still strong, God's Special Girl...)
I think it's neat to play around with bc like, now in the modern day a lot of queer ppl like to kind of think back to historical people and relate to them even though we are completely different types of people from across time and place. And I think even with the difference and distance of gender and geography there are elements of flaws and virtues we can identify with and see in life even if in a time much more alien to ours.
