The default question when people have little to no hope in Byler is, well, who the hell is Will going to end up with? Because it’s become increasingly evident that they’re trying to set him up for a romance. The “im not gonna fall in love”, the “it’s not my fault you don’t like girls”, even the gif shown above. It all can be interpreted to mean that Will is going to find his person soon.

So... to be completely honest, I had no idea who Chance was until this ask popped up and I had to look him up💀. It’s been a while since I’ve been on here, so I’m a little rusty on the deep lore lmao. So, in the off chance that others might also be confused, here’s a (rare) gif of him I found.

I think that’s him with the Hawkins cap on the right. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I’m not sure where the rumors that this guy was going to become a bigger part of the show came from, but that seems highly unlikely to me. I feel like they would have either hinted at it in the fourth season (like how they’re giving Patrick here quite a sizeable role so that he’ll be memorable to us later when he gets vecnafied) or they would have announced him as a more prominent character already like how they did for s5 with Holly, that one new kid character, and also how they did Amybeth for s4. Idk, maybe it’s unreasonable to think they would have to do that, but it feels quite too out-of-the-blue. Especially for a character that would take on the role of becoming our central character’s love interest, which is a BIG DEAL. Especially if it’s queer lol.

Secondly, I firmly believe that it would be a disservice to Will’s own desires to meet someone new.

Will said this explicitly in the van scene, and as of now, we’re still under the impression that Mike is his person. Forget about Mike’s issues and feelings for a second, and think about what Will is saying here. He feels like a mistake for being different, but Mike makes him feel like he’s not a mistake at all, that he’s better for being different. Mike gives him courage to fight on. Fuck. Tbh, it makes me wonder how long he’d felt this way. As a byler, you might be inclined to think his feelings have been on for forever, but narratively, he could have easily just realized his own feelings very recently, most likely sometime between season 3 and 4. It doesn’t mean the feelings weren’t there before, but realistically neither Will nor the general audience were aware of it before now.

Moving on.

Has anyone heard of the rule of Chekhov’s gun? It’s an incredibly clever and widely-used tool in screenwriting and storytelling in general that helps to clue the watchers in for what’s to come next.

Think of Lucas’ wrist rocket in season 1. When they introduced it as a flimsy-looking, no-good weapon that he’d put too much pride in at first, it gives us a good laugh and we move on. But really, it very meticulously set us up to subconsciously anticipate to see it again later. That’s what Chekhov’s gun is all about. Set-ups, foreshadowing, hidden treasures.

Another great example would be the painting reveal of s4. Obviously, after finding out that Will was painting something, bylers immediately figured it was for Mike and BEGGED and HOPED and PLEADED that we’d be able to finally see it, but to the general audience it was just another something that they’d have to pick apart and realize was actually of importance as the season progressed. (It’s also a good way of showing that the writers are fully capable of engrossing the entire fan base and general audience in his and Mike’s story. Just knowing Will had painted something and that it was for Mike created this sense of PLEASE TELL ME WHAT IT IS AND WJATS GOING ON and whatnot that watchers are simply so susceptible to it’s insane.)

Okay, back to the van scene. Will’s confession.

Now, I’m not saying that the writers intentionally used this foreshadowing tool for us to find and understand immediately. There are plenty, plenty of instances where writers use Chekhov’s gun principle and it flies over peoples heads purposefully. What I’m trying to say is that, thematically and narratively, they would never have introduced Wills feelings for Mike if not for it to have importance to the story, or for nothing to happen with it at all. It’s a set up. And a maddeningly good one, at that. Because queer stories already do tend to fly over people’s heads, and also because there’s the added drama between Mike and Eleven that makes it seem quite impossible for any of these feelings to be addressed in the midst of such emotional chaos. But whatever. I think I’m rambling.

Basically, whether they end up together or not, whether Mike reciprocates these feelings, Will is forever established to be in love with Mike. The confession was simply too grand and emotional and earnest for him to just switch up abruptly next season when he meets someone new that he might have a better chance with. Even if there were to be a whole new arc for him where he learns to let go of Mike or something crappy like that, it would be terrible writing on their end and poor use of a well-set-up Chekhov’s gun reference. It would be like introducing the gun in the display case in scene one, then two scenes later just tucking it away into a storage closet for the remainder of the story. Like… what?

And plus, it’s HIGHLY unlikely that Will would end up with that sort of storyline next season when he’s literally WITH Mike for presumably a majority of the time (based on the set pics so far).

So that’s my debunking of the Chance rumors :) and I didn’t even get to mention how incompatible they’d be just naturally as characters. Chance, a Jason-following jock that hates Dungeons and Dragons, fantasy and nerdy things, and willingly assisted in beating up the Hellfire Club when they were trying to find Eddie. What about that at all screams Will’s type? And if you’re thinking “unconventional couple enemies to lovers”, just don’t. This isn’t a rom-com, especially for a queer plot line lol. I think it’s safe to say there’s no “chance”😉 that they will ever happen. And either way, it’d be a bummer if they did. Cus it would just be Will defeatedly settling for someone that isn’t Mike.

UGH! It makes me sad that the one thing that is firmly being teased by the writers (Will’s love playing a major role in the plot to come) is constantly being questioned and framed as different questions. “Will Mike reciprocate?” “Does this mean Mike and Eleven break up?” “Who will end up with who?” SHHH Frankly, to me this is already a win. It’s become obvious that Will having feelings for him will come up again soon, and the rest of the evidence that accounts for Mike’s end already speaks for itself, so I prefer to just sit back and watch it all unfold.

I've been wondering if the "him" in this sentence does not actually refer to Dennis (could be Cricket or a new character?). Because wouldn't it say, "..video footage of him masturbating a dog & [w/t]hen HE holds up a Tupperware container." Idk I feel like it's phrased a bit weirdly. But maybe I'm clutching ar straws because I'm struggling to envision a situation in which Dennis would willingly do that (and film it??). He doesn't even like dogs! 😂

The grammar being wrong really hinges on if it says “when” or “then”. I initially thought it said then, which means it would be strange to repeat Dennis as the subject of a continuing sentence, but if it says “when”, it’s indicative of this being two different shots, hence the re-establishment of Dennis would make sense. (i.e. Page 26 has two scenes, this is a warning of Dennis in scene X where he does the dog, and Dennis in scene Y where he shows the Tupperware container.) If it is one scene, though, stating Dennis twice is odd.

In either case, I think the real ability to interpret this from a grammatical stand point comes down to me (and probably everyone here?) being completely unfamiliar with how FX gives their Practices & Standards Notes to Rob for Sunny...

If the volume of notes is so great that they break it down related to each character (Frank, for example, cos this seems like something they’d soo put Danny through), it would make sense that they’d only name a character who is not the subject of the note. So maybe the heading says “Frank” and then goes by page for each action and warning, using the pronoun to refer to the main subject and naming the other characters in the scene…

But.. are there a ton of notes for Sunny? I mean, you’d maybe think so based on the content of the show, but this is FX, you can do way more here than you can on network TV so they’d likely be subject to fewer notes. In which case it would just be points from the script, by page broadly, and the pronoun “he” would really have to refer to Dennis in a stand-alone paragraph.

So while the grammar does strike me as possibly indicative of greater missing context, it really might just be the result of Sunny being on FX for 20 years now, and communication like this ending up casual and a little rushed. (Like, there’s clearly a missing “the” before the word “scene”, I’m not sure the person writing this even proofread lmfao)

It’s definitely an interesting thread to pull on, though! Dennis does hate dogs pretty consistently. Orchestrating and presenting something like this but not being/refusing to be the one to actually get his hands dirty seems more on-par with his character… but context is definitely gonna be everything here.

And I do wanna reiterate how clear Glenn and Charlie have made it to me (and in podcasts recently) that they really do care about the character’s motivations, and in 16 especially forward, they’re prioritising characterisation over slotting their characters into a role for sake of the plot. If something seems so blatantly out of character, I have faith the context will make it make sense. It’s Sunny, so maybe it will be gross and abhorrent, but it really won’t be out of character.

I think as an autistic person the idea of autistic Rui isn’t like. Inherently Bad or anything. I think there’s other characters that have more stuff supporting it (Kanade, Nene, Kohane) but it’s not like inherently a bad headcanon or interpretation

but the way people *handle* it is….. weird……

Like it’s used a lot as a justification for his behavior. Which like I’ve BEEN ostracized for being autistic so I know what it feels like. And I don’t think he deserves to be ostracized. But why are we acting like him literally using bombs on school campus with absolutely zero qualifications is a normal thing that needs to be defended.

Like that’s still extremely dangerous to the other students and just completely disregarding of other peoples safety. I don’t care how much Rui claims he “has it under control” he’s a teenager!!!! He doesn’t have a degree in pyrotechnics!!!!! He should not be doing that especially not at a public school where people could get hurt!!!!

And like if for whatever reason he genuinely needed to do something with explosions. Like if it’s a stim or a special interest or whatever. There’s a lot of safer alternatives you could try?

I’m sure if he has a psychologist they could help come up with other options. Literally if he needs to do these dangerous stunts there are safe!!! Alternatives!!!!! Also, like, if it does need to be the real thing - one, keep it to shows maybe??? Where everyone is consenting??? Two, there are actual pyro technicians that you can hire for that exact purpose. Rui has no reason to mess with dangerous explosives unless it’s for budget reasons which like I THINK omitting real explosions or going for a safer alternative that mimics explosions is a better idea than messing with dangerous ones and having little to no clue what you’re doing. Sure maybe Rui has read up on it but he’s still a teenager and still isn’t a professional and shouldn’t be trusted with dangerous equipment that could hurt others in public.

Rui doing this type of stuff around Tsukasa and himself is one thing, because at least they’re consenting, but in public is a whole different story.

Why i dont actively ship PPGxRRB:

I'm scrapping my drafted essay post about this for now because its really uncalled for and unnecessary. IDK sorry to anyone who looked forwards 2 it, but i just dont think i illustrate my point very well and more than half of it is lowkey a biased vent post and pure rambling. Either way this is the TLDR for the post you'll never see LOL.

But actually, I do ship PPGxRRB, i've just drifted away from it over the years. I think one of the biggest 'problems' i have with PPG x RRB is mainly with the portrayal of it. My main issue is with how a lot of people mischaracterize the RRB/PPG and completely deconstruct them as characters so that they can be love interests for the eachother and nothing more. One of my points in my scrapped post was that; I have no idea how an entire fandom managed to gender-bend the Bechdel test, but it is rare that i find PPGxRRB media where the RRB have actual lives, interests, hobbies, and friends that have nothing to do with the PPG. Half the time they can barely have a thought if it isn't about the PPG. As i said, Gender-bent Bechdel test.

Another point was that: ppgxrrb has gained a horrible reputation for itself over the years. Back in its "Glory" days, Toxic fans of the ships had bulldozed anything that differs from their favorite empty dynamics. Those usually being The Reds, Blues, and Greens. Nowadays i still see almost nothing in the realms of variety between creators interpretations of the ships. Almost every time i see a PPGxRRB post, it can fit into a set dynamic that the ship is already infamous for.

I want to be able to see the creators love and passion for their ships. I want to know how and why these characters ended up together. If a story is to be told, i want to hear it. I know that the majority of PPGxRRB creators are, by default, amateurs (they dont get paid and its not on a professional scale), but after seeing the exact same badly written love story hundreds , maybe even thousands of times with little-to-no variety, I've gotten bored and tired of people devaluing my favorite characters to be nothing more than overplayed dynamics and shipping fuel.

A lot of people like shipping because of the dynamics, but ship dynamics don't hook me in, and ive noticed that most PPGxRRB stuff is purely ship dynamics and nothing more. Theres nothing wrong with loving ship dynamics or being drawn to ships for their specific dynamics! I just dont care about dynamics, i care about chemistry and story. But most amateurs cant effectively show the chemistry or write the story, a lot of them can barely characterize the 2 characters in their ships.

FYI this isnt about anyone specific or even many recent fans of PPGxRRB. I've been in/around the online PPG fandom since before 2016, and a lot of my thoughts/feelings on the matter have a lot to do with stuff that happened over the years i've loved this series, and more specifically, The RowdyRuff Boys.

To be clear: When i say that they are mischaracterized, i'm not talking about HC's. I'm just tired of seeing the PPG and RRB dulled down into one-note personalities with stereotypical characterization and almost always no tangible character development. A love story is still a story, and a lot of shippers seem to half ass the "story" for favor of the "love".

I dont hate or even dislike PPG x RRB. I'm just really tired of rarely seeing people do the RRB justice, and i want these characters to be treated with the full respect that i think they deserve.

do u think his canon "type" as in for more real and long term things is still that or could it be any/numerous? sigyn for example, from the bits I've seen in some comics and the fanworks where they pair her with MCU Loki she is like, really sweet and nurturing. Honestly, the post was a bit playful. I just sort of found it a bit funny that he continues to have an attraction to a woman who wants nothing to do with him 😭

Hmm… what do I ACTUALLY think Loki’s canon type is… would he like someone shy? Someone more confident? I think his type would be someone more confident. He specifically likes/is intrigued by confidence in women. Perhaps a lot of Asgardian women he’s interacted with are a bit shy considering the fact he’s a prince and a god (and very attractive/charming). We do know that female warriors were looked down upon, so most Asgardian women probably feel they have to fit a more “dainty” and stereotypically feminine personality.

So I think that Loki finds confidence/strength as a really attractive trait in women because it stands out to him, and is a bit more similar to his own personality. It’s intriguing to him. He’s drawn to it. He also has his own moments of low self esteem/weakness, so I think he would look up to/be inspired by someone who’s confident in themselves. Either that, or he would envy them very much. He envies certain aspects of Thor’s confidence/strength, but he also finds it to be a bit ignorant.

Which is why… I think he’d want his partner to be on a similar level as him. Similar intelligence, and similar personality. His partner would mirror him in ways, but also puzzle him. I don’t see him wanting someone completely opposite from him, but I also don’t see him wanting an exact replica of himself. They have to think similarly, but they also have to have something he lacks. He needs to be intrigued by them in some way.

I don’t know if he’d really love the sweet and nurturing/shy type? I mean, he would love a partner that does take care of him of course, but obviously.. he’s very closed off and afraid of being vulnerable. Which they actually could help with, but I feel he wants to earn/“work for” that sort of relationship. He doesn’t feel he deserves it, and it might be a bit off putting.

I feel that he likes someone he can solve. Someone who’s sweet and nurturing, doesn’t give him a whole lot to work with. He’s the challenging type. He wants someone a bit more complex than that. (Not that people who are sweet and nurturing cannot be complex, but I feel it’s something he sort of expects from women specifically. It’s not that challenging to him.)

And like I said, Loki seems to be drawn to the “new” and “innovative” rather than what he already knows. I sort of got the idea that Asgardian women tend to be shy/sweet and nurturing around him, and… it’s not too intriguing. Not that he’s canonically attracted to her or anything but, Jane stood out to him because she’s confident. She’s intelligent. She doesn’t take shit from anyone. He’s expecting her to be the more quiet, shy type. But, she proves him wrong. And he really appreciates it and approves of it lol

I do think he would find a shy partner appealing in certain aspects, as he loves to tease and figure people out. He would like the advantage he has over them. He’d want them to open up to him, even if he’s a bit reluctant to open up to them. Maybe he would eventually feel comfortable opening up to them. It matches the sort of “shyness” he had in Thor 1. There’s pros and cons to both confident and shy partners. He may feel like he cannot open up to a confident partner, but he also may feel like certain aspects of his personality could be off putting to a shyer partner.

You didn’t say anything like this but, I don’t think he would want someone who blindly worships everything he does. He’d find it a bit intriguing at first, but it gets boring because… no challenge!

I think he’d be more intrigued by someone who straight up hates him. It’s a challenge to him. He wants to figure them out.

It’s hard to tell of course since certain aspects of Loki’s are not really shown canonically (like what type of romantic partners he’s had/seeks) but we can watch the movies and look at certain people he’s been intrigued by, as well as certain people he’s disliked to get a bit of an idea. That’s what I’m going based off of anyway. He tends to dislike those who he deems arrogant/unintelligent. He tends to dislike those who do, before they think. He has a dislike for humans because they are “simpler”

He tends to be intrigued by those who are confident. He tends to be intrigued by those who are intelligent. He’s intrigued by strength/power, but not strength/power that is used with no thought/intelligence behind it.

The sweet and nurturing aspect… well, he obviously didn’t receive a whole lot of that. The only one who was remotely sweet and nurturing to him was Frigga, and even then… he didn’t know how to take it. Obviously, romantic relationships would be different than a familiar one. But, I don’t see him allowing himself to accept love from someone who’s already highly sweet and nurturing to everyone. He wants to know why he deserves it. It may feel insincere to him. He wants that love to be VERY specific to him. He may feel it’s more sincere from someone who doesn’t openly love, similarly to himself. Not many things are done specifically for him, so I think he’d really like a closed off partner who opens up to him and loves him. He’d see himself in their vulnerability, and would really appreciate them opening up to him despite their fear of vulnerability.

I do not ship Loki with anyone, so I’m not being biased. But out of all the people he is shipped with, I think he would lean towards the more “mysterious”/“confident but not at all arrogant/unintelligent” types. Sif, Natasha, and Tony for example. Those who also have dark pasts, and have struggled in similar ways as him. Those who view things similarly, but differently to him. I don’t see him loving the OVERLY silly type, but I also don’t see him loving someone he cannot AT ALL be playful with. He’s the god of mischief, but he is also very serious.

He loves to tease, but I think he could also enjoy being teased to a certain extent. He likes having an advantage over others, but he could allow them to have an advantage over him. He’s very versatile, so it’s difficult to point to a specific type LOL

Rambled so badly but this is sort of how I view it. It’s the impression I’ve always gotten, anyway. I try to go based off canon, and notice what types of people Loki is drawn to. That’s where my idea of his types come from, though it’s not at all made obvious.

Honestly, his type could be completely different than what I’ve said. He could prefer a shy/really sweet and nurturing partner. He could prefer someone who’s the complete opposite from who he is. Or… I could be right!

Ok, I want to start off by saying that I am a fan of all arts and am so appreciative of the time, passion, and work that goes into any kind of content creation.

I am also very particular about when it comes to art. There are mangas, comics, animated works that I have difficulty reading/watching or will not read/watch if I'm not a fan of the art style.

And as an artist I understand that art is subjective and not everyone likes it. Just as I recognize that not everyone likes my particular art style and that's ok. (Not trying to have people come for me like I’m trashing Charlie’s art cuz I am 10000% not.)

Charlie does amazing work and I like it, but it's clear that her style has changed (as most content creators do) since the TLH portraits she did and the pieces that are going in the journal for CC's new kickstarter. I'm a self- taught artist so terminology isn't my best, but her style now is giving semi cartoon realism, but airing on the side of the cartoon more now.

I feel that my unpopular opinion is that I'm not a huge fan of it. I really like the TLH portraits she did of Matthew, James, Christopher, Thomas, ect, but idk there is something about these new portraits in her style that I'm just not liking. Her lines are much sharper now, darker, more profound and it feels like all of the face shapes/ jaw lines are basically the same (and I know I have no room to talk since I draw in an anime style so one could argue all my lines look the same).

and I'm NOT saying that they are carbon copies. Jem clearly looks different from Will down to his eye shape which is amazing and looks great. But idk...maybe part of my disliking is also the inconsistencies? and I'm using that term lightly...but like

Clary's hair looking straight when it's very canonly curly. Alec and Magnus having basically the same haircut... (I’m not the best person to speak on Dru…but CJ’s flower card is different and feels more like how she’s described on the book). The lack of and absence of runes... and I know all of that can be personal preference/stylistic choice. After all, art is subjective and based off of the artist's interpretation (for the most part anyway) but I'm a stickler for details so it bugs me…

And I just liked the softness/ more realism style of the previous portraits Charlie has done for TSC than these newer ones. These new ones are nice and I do like them…just not as much…and there are some that I don’t like at all.

I wish people would stop being so unnecessarily rude and hateful about gothcleats? Like, in general I’ve found this fandom to be pretty decent about avoiding senseless ship hate but for some reason this ship just gets held up to a standard that none of the other ones seem to and I guess it irks me a bit. Obviously if a ship isn’t your cup of tea for one reason or another that’s cool, and I completely get like interpreting a character a certain way that conflicts with a ship… I guess what I don’t get is why with this ship in particular people feel the need to rain on other people’s parade so much??

I’ve noticed that there are a lot of anti-gothcleats posts that are like “Well this [canon interaction] doesn’t strike me as romantic” and use that as a basis for invalidating the ship, but like… When has that ever been a requirement for shipping characters??? Like, idk, I think swiftli is cute, pretty fair to say that I ship it, but I’d be fucking lying to you if I said that a single one of Linc and Taylor’s interactions in canon has ever struck me as romantic… And so what? But that’s what I mean by like people hold gothcleats to a weird standard that they don’t hold other ships to. Obviously people are gonna latch on to whatever interactions they can get between two characters that they ship and roll with it, of course in practice for almost any ship very few if any of those will actually have romantic undertones… That’s normal? And you can not like a ship without going out of your way to rip those moments away from the people who do like it?

I feel like to some extent, subconsciously or otherwise, the hate this ship gets probably stems from some fear of it becoming canon. Maybe that’s wrong but that’s the impression I get. And to that I say… It’s literally not going to. No but seriously of course at the risk of being dead wrong like, it’s really not. Will ships it, I’m convinced, but Matt has shown no interest in canonizing any kind of romantic relationship between PCs, and that ultimately matters much more at the end of the day. Thinking about Suguru’s mental health leading up to the day he snapped. I phrase it all as headcanon but you can take it as a genuine interpretation if you like. It hit me in the gut when I realized how distant and tired Suguru is after the mission.

The way he thinks about his moral debate of shaman vs non-shamans is to an obsessive degree in my opinion. These are thoughts that he keeps trying to rationalize and figure out. He can’t move on with his life or anything because it hasn’t made sense yet.

It’s such a nuanced argument but he can’t just leave it at that. Toji did push this idea of “monkeys” into his head which is a more deeply seeded issue. He gives him this language to put with his negative emotions and he knows its wrong. He doesn’t say it out loud because he knows it is. Yet, a part of him rationalizes it and sees the logic within this dehumanization so he struggles to dismiss the thought completely.

A strategy for handling such negative, unpleasant thoughts is to dismiss them entirely but Suguru can’t do that. It has to make sense. He sits and he’ll ignore everything, everyone and only have the energy to battle with these thoughts. Sometimes having a person you trust to help distract you from them is another way to dismiss them but as he is sent out on mission after mission alone, he can’t help but let his mind drift back. He questions his entire existence, his entire life’s purpose because his mind literally won’t let it go. Everything he is surrounded by won’t let it go. Being a sorcerer/shaman means being dead center in this constant war on curses.

There isn’t another person that he trusts with his thoughts either. Again, he knows they are bad. They are unacceptable in society. It is terrifying to have these ideas in his head and being seen? Like that? Someone seeing those thoughts? He’d rather die.

“What if I did that? Is it bad? Of course it’s bad. This is wrong. I’m gross and disgusting. I’m vile. They would deserve it though. No that’s not right. I’m trying to do the right thing. Isn’t it the right thing to kill them? No! There would be no more curses. Don’t I want that? I can’t do that. It is wrong. I’m not going to do that. They’re just monkeys. I’m so gross.”

He is talking to himself in his head. He spaces out completely in conversations. It’s an endless cycle. It’s miserable. It’s draining on him mentally and physically. He’s scared of doing anything that might show that maybe his thoughts are also him.

Idk!! This is a heavy thing!! It’s very dark and I want to treat it carefully as such. I’d love to hear other ppl’s opinion on it.

hi! maybe spoilers ahead for the upcoming flash issues? i’m not really sure. i wanna preface that this is all speculation and i could be completely wrong about this, but the upcoming solicitations for spurrier’s flash #13 and the leaks for #14 that were posted on twitter the other day are kinda making me worry barry isn’t going to be around for much longer in the mainline continuity. which imo would kind of suck because the man has already spent more than two decades dead for goodness sake. i can’t figure out if i’m just being insane and jumping to conclusions or?? do you think they’d kill him again and if they did, would it stick as long as it did the first time around? don’t get me wrong, i love wally, but i’d be sad if they had barry die again bc he’s a great character too and i feel like there’s room in the dc universe for both of them. idk if you follow current flash stuff at all and i totally get it if you don’t want to respond to this for spoiler reasons but i’ve been worrying about this all day and i need to get it off my chest by asking somebody about this. i haven’t seen anybody else talking about this so maybe i’m just freaking out over nothing 😭

Hey anon. I wouldn't worry about the spoilers since we're just talking speculations, but I'm going to be real with you. I've been scared that DC might want to get rid of Barry AGAIN for months now.

It does seem that they're building up to that, and for some reason they aren't able to understand that if something flops, it isn't because of the titular character being received poorly - it's because they did a shit job. I'm talking about that movie with Ezra Miller that performed poorly because it was done poorly, but DC might and likely did interpret it as a disinterest from people towards Barry Allen (even if Flash fans hated the movie for the opposite reason).

I am being told that Barry is still selling merchandise which is a good sign, but I'm not sure how safe he is at the moment. Now if something really bad happens to him, I'm pretty sure they will also bring him back pretty quickly - everything with DC got quicker, and no important character stays dead for more than 12 months at this point. That being said, Si Spurrier already did some lore breaking things because he very much did not read Flash comics and likes to come up with his own explanations for everything, which is absolutely stupid. So if they do kill Barry and Spurrier is the one who brings him back, I'm not looking forward to the nonsense he'll come up with 😅

non-spoilery general review: overall, i liked the book. the reasons why i liked it are the same reasons why i liked cotg. it’s just a silly low-stakes adventure for our main trio peppered with some sincere heartfelt moments. if you liked cotg, you’ll probably like this book too. it’s nothing life changing, but it’s fun.

i’m getting into spoilers under the cut:

okay i’m gonna start with the stuff i didn’t like:

1. NO NICO. okay i know i’m the nico guy so i’m very biased but that aside it genuinely baffles me why nico didn’t even make an appearance. they had a problem involving ghosts and didn’t even think about asking THE GHOST KING for help. it annoys me when authors make their characters ignore a glaringly obvious solution to their problems just for the sake of the plot.

i completely understand if rick doesn’t want nico to be a major character in any more books considering he literally got an entire book about him (and despite his fan-favorite status, he is still a side character), but at LEAST establish a reason for why he wouldn’t be able to help out with raising an army of ghosts from the dead. maybe he’s at camp jupiter visiting hazel. maybe he’s at a mythomagic tournament. SOMETHING.

at least he was mentioned unlike in cotg 😔

(EDIT: i wrote the above section before tsats 2 was announced. given the circumstances, i have officially forgiven rick for this specific transgression)

2. i wasn’t a fan of how annabeth was kind of getting “mom friend”ed. there were a few moments that came off like “percy and grover are just dumb boys and annabeth is the smart capable girl who keeps them in line” which is not an interpretation of their characters that i enjoy. but these moments were mixed in with others that showed them all working together as a cohesive unit with equal contributions from everyone, so it’s not like the entire book follows this thinking.

3. kind of related to the last one, there were quite a few “percy is dumb” moments in the story. or at least percy implying that he’s dumb. now to be fair, percy canonically does not think very highly of himself. it’s entirely believable that he just sees himself as some doofus and is surprised when people tell him that he’s smart. but idk, kinda rubs me the wrong way.

4. why so many pee references. like at some point it’s just excessive.

5. i will always be a hater of rick’s modern pop culture references. i think it’s an established fact that i’m not a fan of his decision to set his books in the “modern day” of whatever specific time they’re released. i just think the worldbuilding would be a lot better if he stuck to a time period.

6. of course, the typical rick riordan inconsistencies and continuity errors. at this point they’re so common they don’t bother me that much anymore, but they can still break my immersion sometimes and it’s just a tad annoying when there are multiple in one book. bro either needs to reread his books or find a better editor lmao.

okay, now for the stuff i liked!!

1. i really liked the cute domestic moments with the trio. i love that we get to see how close their bond has gotten over the years and how comfortable they are with each other. THEY ARE FAMILYYYYY

2. i thought a lot of the book was quite funny, especially with percy’s narration. his commentary with his classic snark and sarcasm really breathe life into the story. rick has always been very good at first-person narration and it’s still one of his major strengths as an author.

3. i like how the story is addressing how big of a deal leaving new york will be for percy. but it’s true that he’s not leaving home, he’s just expanding what “home” means to him. it really fits with the whole “we had one home, now we have two” idea from boo.

4. annabeth growing to be more silly and carefree as she’s gotten older means so much to me. this poor girl has been through so much and was forced to grow up so quickly so seeing her cracking jokes and being a little reckless is so nice to see. she’s healing :D

5. i liked the moments where the story slowed down to allow percy to have a heart-to-heart with grover. we don’t get nearly enough just percy-and-grover moments so the ones we do get are worth appreciating. it’s a great reminder that they have been best friends since the beginning of all of this and they truly care deeply for each other.

6. related to the previous one, but the moments where the plot slowed down in general and allowed percy to demonstrate his emotional intelligence were really great. he was the one who was able to get through to hecuba and gale because he was able to put himself in their shoes and make them feel understood. percy’s empathy is a huge part of his character that so many people in the fandom ignore so it was very nice to see it on display here.

7. like cotg, this was a fun and wacky low-stakes adventure, which is a welcome change of pace. it’s fun to see what everyone is like when they’re not in constant “save the world” mode all the time.

8. the story kind of builds off the message of cotg (“growing older is not only not a bad thing but it’s something to welcome and cherish”), because now that percy has embraced his future and growing older, he needs to figure out what he wants that to mean for him. a change in scenery, a change in people, these are all things that everyone needs to consider as they transition into adulthood. it’s scary to leave the familiarity of your old home and friends, but you’re not TRULY leaving if you put in the effort to maintain those connections. as a young adult starting to move into the next phase of their life (about to graduate, hopefully find a full-time job, might begin to consider moving out of my childhood home), this is a message that resonates a lot with me.

soooo yeah. it was fun, it was sweet, not groundbreaking but not necessarily trying to be. idk how often i’ll return to this book but i don’t regret reading it. peace and love on planet earth.

so like idk much about how much ppl have theorized or what ppl’s thoughts are on alter trigger or alter trigger’s intent, so idk how common the interpretation is of alter trigger being pharmaceutical company studying homeopathic therapy, but that’s what i’m running with here (if someone wants me to elaborate, i’d be happy to do so!!)

BUT i’ve been thinking for a while that AMPRULE might have smth to do with medication…?? like obvs they’re named “AMPRULE” with RULE being for dongha bc lil empera and whatnot, but i was thinking it was also a play on “ampoule” too??? and since RULE is definitely for dongha, i wondered if “ampoule” might be a hint for chunsung’s past??? we also know that the yeon conglomerate has funded/has been funding alter trigger in some manner (which is why they involved BAE in the first paradox live), sooooo, with that said….

my theory right now is this: chungsung might’ve been sickly prior to working for the yeon family, and bc the yeon family kinda dips their fingers into all this medical research, it was a big deal for him to get a job with them, bc they were able to fund all of the treatments he needed. he’s really grateful, the yeon family gets a really faithful servant, etc etc. ofc, as the years go on, alter trigger gets involved in real shady shit, and papa yeon (for as much as he is a massive POS) is severely unhappy to learn that his heir is involved in paradox live and phantom lives, bc he’s seen firsthand the reports on what alter trigger is studying. idk where i’m going with this!!!!!! i don’t think chungsung was necessarily experimented on as ryuu, itsuki, rokuta, and nayuta were, but i definitely think there must be some connection there…… hmmmmmm

and ofc the name AMPRULE might be alluding to smth completely different and i might be wrong. like idk maybe it’s just AMP bc like you’re turning up the amp or smth (which is actually probably what it is 😩 i’m definitely overthinking this) but THATS JUST A THEORY!!!!! A PARALIVE THEORY ✨‼️💯👊🔥

I hate to say it but I feel a lot of disappointment with Jk, so much so that I’ve mentally checked out of his release and want to hear nothing of it anymore. It’s just disappointing to see him sellout like this, his interviews aren’t making things better bc how can he say he just wants to be more famous/be a giant pop star, what happened to just loving to make music ? Feel like idek know him like I thought I do. I’m also stuck between if I should be mad at him or not bc at some level he did know this was going to happen, knew they were going to push him more than the other members(we literally see him planning to be big in suwitcha ep). He seems so arrogant and full of himself nowadays. Not an ounce of gratitude??? No thankyou, nothing. Straight up asking for more, as he knows scooter is preparing him an English album. so let’s start with the obvious: fans don’t know the celebrities/idols they’re fans of on a personal level. what you and i assume about any idol can be completely wrong however i feel it’s the same with random people as well. sometimes i hear from people what they assume about me and i’m shocked because it’s so different to how i actually am. unless you’re close friends with someone or on a family type closeness level, i don’t think you can assume to know anyone and as long as you recognise that, you’re cool. your message is also completely biased and i hope you recognise that too.

that said let’s assume jungkook has changed or his humble self was a facade. this would depend on your definition of humble. i wouldn’t say jungkook was humble as in what i saw in him was he was severely lacking any type of recognition for himself. this is what i think people interpreted as humble. it was however not good for jungkook and i say this as someone who never gives themselves credit.

what has changed is that he doesn’t sweat his “mistakes” anymore. this makes him more confident. another thing that makes him more confident is how he is challenging himself right now. i feel like if you want to be fair to him you have to admit (and give him credit for) how he’s getting out of his comfort zone. recording a full song in english, working (alone) with people who only speak english, going on a morning show, an evening show, stationhead livestreams, doing a lot of that in english, not even mentioning how much frankly courage it took for him to shoot the mv he did on his own, record the explicit version of seven and release it…all that was new to him and these are the things that allow you to grow as a person. with this comes confidence which people can confuse with being cocky.

on the other hand jungkook is also honest. he is telling you how it is and trust me everyone in the industry wants to be a global superstar. even if they deny it and say they only do it for the sake of the music. the two can coexist at the same time. jungkook goes on live, he talks in interviews and he’s telling you exactly what he thinks and feels. that is so rare it’s laughable people don’t appreciate it more. you may call it arrogant but he’s very self aware and let’s be honest, would you want someone who’s underestimating themselves or would you want to be a fan of someone who understands the situation they’re in and acknowledges it? he knows how big he and bts are. why pretend otherwise? he is showing gratitude by going live at ass o’clock, always talking about how much army means to him (well the ones who genuinely support him) and being as honest as a celebrity possibly can be. he’s grateful for his true fans but i think fans also need to understand that while they are putting massive amounts of money, time and effort in, jungkook did his part as well. he worked hard for us (while being ill too during promo). fans also need to recognise that they’re not the sole cause of his success - the GP does actually like him. yes without fans he wouldn’t be where he is but he also put the work in and should be able to be proud of that without minimising his efforts.

he’s also at an age where people tend to figure themselves out more and i know cause i’m in the same boat. i can see he’s going through that. chapter 2 i think is really allowing them all to get out of the comfort bubble of the group and grow as people on their own which is great. inevitably, jungkook being human, will change over the course of his lifetime just like all of us.

i’m not going to entertain the BS about how he’s pushed more than the other members because I don’t think that’s fair to say. they’re all getting different opportunities and dare i say it is their choice. i know jimin wasn’t happy with how long his promo was but unless he talks about it in more detail i refuse to put a lot of weight on it because i don’t know how much promo he wanted to do. as far as i can see they’re all getting to do what they want to do and they’re booked and busy.

as for jimin dropping jungkook that’s just what you want to see and it realistically isn’t going to happen. i highly doubt jimin is pretending anything😂that’s just wishful thinking. i’m not even going to go into anything specific that happened recently because there’s no point, it’s a given that they will remain close and i have full trust in that based on being a fan for 6 years.
