I specifically saw a recording of him saying this during a show they played at fireside bowl in Chicago, around 2003 I think. They literally played like 6 songs and he said this before FIVE of them. Just like over and over again throughout the whole performance 😭 He might have said it during other shows around that time too, but this is the only one I’ve seen so far. (If anyone knows another time when he said this please send it to me!) I think it’s a crazy interesting statement honestly!!! I don’t take it as him saying that he personally thinks cheerleader gore is sexy or whatever. I think of it more as an intentional statement critiquing the way that women and femininity are objectified, sexualized and used for shock value. Cheerleaders are often used as an archetype for traditional american values of femininity, so I think it’s more discussing women being used in that way as a whole and not just cheerleaders. It ALSO could be interpreted as saying that killing those archetypes of traditional American femininity is sexually liberating, but I honestly think he’s talking more about shock value than anything here. Either way it’s a SUPER fascinating thing to say when you look at it in the larger picture of mcr’s work, because they use the cheerleader motif a TON. Take for example the teenagers or blood music video! If anyone finds this interesting I really recommend the podcast “honey this podcast isn’t big enough for the two of us.” They have a whole episode on the cheerleader motif in which they mention this exact quote!! Anyways sorry for writing an essay LMAO I hope someone found this interesting cause I sure doooo
