same anon from the ace UM submission here HELLOOOO I JUST FELL TO MY KNEESSSSS imagine malleus in a fit lashes out because how could they understand the isolation he feels and it just forces ace to confront his own feelings. imagine the final confrontation he straightens malleus out in the usual way that he does considering ace also has a track record of setting people straight (like with riddle and in phantom bride) "just talk to them and let them know how you feel" "stop carrying all these feelings to yourself" his own words probably also came from somewhere deep inside of him that he refuses to face but it just comes up to the surface because he sees himself in malleus. pretty ironic that he'll be calling out malleus when hes doing the exact same. it would give ace the development that ppl say hes been lacking compared to the other charas who all had some kind of further development like the other first years for example

think of post ob where after the dust settled they just return back to their respective loved ones and finally having to come clean about their emotions once and for all.

i just want an emotionally vulnerable scene for ace, mister allergic to facing his emotions, trappola even if its just a side moment that gets overshadowed later HHHH

*nodnod* Malleus is arrogant and desperate enough to think that no one could possibly relate to these tumultuous emotions of his. It’d be so fitting for Ace to confront him (and, by extension, his own feelings)—because not only does Ace have a track record of speaking out against others, but he has spoken out against Malleus before in Endless Halloween Night. In fact, he was the ONLY character to continue harping on the guy after everyone else basically forgave him. Ironically, that event was also the one that foreshadowed Malleus’s ability to stop time (which is true of the space contained in his briar barrier). And it all comes full circle…

For Malleus, I feel like him verbalizing his feelings isn’t really the main struggle. He seems to lack the awareness of what he’s feeling in the first place, as he doesn’t realize he’s lonely until Yuu points it out to him in 7-18. Later in 7-29, Malleus speaks openly with Silver about how powerless he feels to stop his subjects from feeling sorrow. It’s true that he has a tendency to project his feelings onto others (hence forcing everyone into happy dreams to avoid reality), but unfortunately projecting is not necessarily the same as empathizing. Rarely does Malleus do the legwork to truly understand others on an intimate level. I think that projection is a function of how Malleus understands and interacts with the world since this is something he does even when he’s not being overly emotional. For example, in his own Dorm Uniform vignettes he thinks it would be easier to bring everyone to him (so as to not miss a dorm meeting) even though this act of magic is considered highly rude by other mages. He does communicate his feelings, albeit sometimes via talking in circles or vaguely—namely in how he speaks with Yuu, sharing stories about his past (in book 7) or sharing about gargoyles to impart advice on how to overcome adversity (in book 3). More blatantly, he declares his intentions to Lilia before sentencing everyone to sleep in 7-37: “Not losing you!”

I also think… to some extent, Lilia already understands how Malleus might feel if he leaves. I get the sense that Lilia was in such a rush to go in the same way that you’d want to rip off a band-aid quickly. The more you prolong it, the worse the pain will be, that kind of logic. And before he intended to depart, Lilia tried to set things up so that Malleus would still be in good hands—inviting him to the farewell party, making sure people from all the dorms were there (perhaps so that Malleus can make new friends).

Malleus could more clearly state his feelings, sure. But I think the true root of the problem isn’t him not communicating—because even if he did so more openly, what would that resolve exactly? Time still moves forward, change still happens, his loved ones still leave him. It might be emotionally cathartic for Malleus, but ultimately he’s still left feeling lonely. The challenge for him is less putting his thoughts into words and more him learning to accept these life-altering changes instead of fighting or resisting them.

I still think that Ace could relate to Malleus in this regard, especially if they call back to 7-17, in which Ace cheerily redirects the conversation. While Deuce, Grim, and even Yuu discuss changes to their lives come summer break (going to the next grade, changing classes, Grim staying at school on his own, not being able to study together anymore), Ace challenges them with lines like, "C'mon, why do you guys have to get all mopey?", "[...] no need to join the mope patrol", " I declare Mopefest officially over!", and, "Frankly, I'm still skeptical any of this is gonna help us figure out a way to send [Yuu] home." It registers as Ace being in denial about the events about to unfold and coping by reassuring others by distracting them (when that reassurance is also aimed at himself), Ace is dishonest with himself and instead redirects those efforts to calling out others, which makes him come off as too mean or pushy even with his own friends (particularly Deuce). It would be nice to get an arc about him learning to be more vulnerable with his own emotions and better understanding those of others.

I get the feeling that Ace will get most of his actual character development and tearful reunion with Deuce, Yuu, and Grim within his own dream rather than in the final battle (the timing of the latter would just be odd). Hopefully Ace's dream written well since he's the last first year to be woken up. Save the best for last, you know?

truly, he felt a bit jealous when hearing about okkotsu's venture to a foreign country. he couldn't remember, but did it matter? maybe it did, but, all he wanted was an escape.

he thought he would find that else where. where his grandfather voice wouldn't echo. where cement wasn't stained with junpei's tears. he wanted to get away. away from the cruel word of curses he was slowly swallowed by, finger by finger.

the beach was always quiet during the night; before sunrise, after sunset. to yuuji, the small moment of peace—he loved the sounds of the waves crashing—was his escape.

hours. the both of you spoke for hours. that simply phrase, the first introduction of your delicate voice as it wafted through the salty air to his ears, would permeate you into his life. his eyes met yours, a spark as bright as the sun rising beside the both of you marked the unstoppable change in both of your lives.

every morning, regardless of how strange the hour was, the soothing sound of water crashing intermixed with quiet conversation. yuuji wasn't a quiet person, if that wasn't already obvious, but you always whispered. he wanted to ask why, were you scared someone might hear? he didn't know, but his eyes lingered on the soft curves of your lips as you smiled and spoke, your voice so gentle as though you didn't want to wake up the sun early.

his heart ached when you left, desperate for the familiarity of your warm tone echoing in his mind.

the morning after halloween, you were alone. the waves crashed quietly with nothing to overlap their sounds. you stared at the dark waters, his name teetering on the edge of your tongue, fighting to escape your lips rather than fall back into the lump in your throat. your heart felt empty, cold and alone, rather than lively and pulsing with his energetic smile. with his stupid jokes and bright joy.

yuuji couldn't escape—correction, he would never escape. curled up in the sheets of a room beside his now dead best friend—the other barely having made it out alive—you were all he wanted. he wanted to sit with you again, the fresh breeze fanning over his face as your shoulders pressed against each other. your hair fluttering in the gust of wind, sweet laughter his fingers brushed the strands from your face.

it felt hard to breath, unlike how it felt with you. there no longer was the flowing nonsense that came as easy as each pulse of the ocean. there no longer was the feeling of your hands running through the wild tufts of his hair as your spoke about your classes. yuuji missed it all.

he missed you.

SO LIKE—!!! We know from TWST Halloween Endless Night, Rook had difficulty expressing emotions until he watched Neige perform on stage for the first time— Imagine if child! Rook was a complete 180° from the Rook we know now? He’d still have a fascination with beauty and everything, but he just expresses it differently? I can see him following anything and anyone beautiful wordlessly—

Imagine Rook casually following someone cause they piqued his interest, and that someone is confused AF why some “lost” kid is tailing them. …And then Rook’s parents have to pull him side and apologize to the person

Imagine Rook’s parents and siblings trying so hard to get Rook to emote— tickling him to make him laugh, feeding him his favourite foods to see if he’ll react to it any differently than other foods—

I can also see Rook being fairly put together as a child, but similar to Kalim, the moment he stepped into NRC, he dropped all his hair care routine and stopped putting on sunscreen. In fact— wouldn’t it be funny if child! Rook hated sunscreen? Maybe back then, the sunscreen they had just had a weird smell that bugged him.

Ngl— I can also kinda see Rook having some touch aversion as a kid— so maybe his parents put sunscreen on him less or brushed/styled his hair less, which may be the reason why Rook didn’t care for his appearance as much.

We know from Vil, Rook didn’t put on sunscreen during their first year of NRC, but I refuse to believe his parents wouldn’t make him put it on as a kid.

Hiii so I was reading your posts about how confusing the dreams are and I was trying to come up with an explanation of my own. What if both Malleus and the dreamers are subsconiously influencing the dreams and that's why no one really understands what's happening? Because we're not always aware of what's going on in that part of our minds.

That might be the case?? I really wish this was the lore we received from the beginning; it would have saved us a lot of trouble in the long run if the devs had chosen to go with a looser, more vague explanation of the dream worlds.

@/twistedminutia suggested in this post that the dreams may operate like an AI algorithm, which I thought was an interesting concept + is similar to what anon is pitching too. The idea is that Malleus isn't directly influencing the dreams or determining explicit details within them, but rather he has set a definition for what makes a person "happy" and his autonomous magic (ie the AI) is running off of that definition to determine what would be the most efficient path to "happiness". However, the end result tends to be shallow because of this. The commentor then proposes that Malleus might associate "happiness" with being in control, and because of that, it accidentally "colors" or influences the dreams of those touched by his magic. Thinking back on what we've witnessed so far... Malleus associating control with happiness might not be that far-fetched. Several of the dreams we've witnessed so far involve granting the dreamer a sense of control or outright places the dreamers in positions of power. Lilia is restored to his days as a war general, Leona is the unquestioned king of the savanna, Cater is Heartslabyul's dorm leader, Azul leads a Coral Rush team, Vil is Neige's boss, Jamil is student council president, etc. Malleus himself expresses being insecure when he lacks control over a given situation. In 7-29, he confides in Silver:

"There's something my Grandmother has often talked to me about. It's the reason why our family, with our draconic lineage, is so exceptionally powerful even among the nocturnal fae. She said it's to ensure that nothing ever diminishes the happiness of our people in Briar Valley. Yet here I am, incapable of dispelling the sorrows of father and son alike. What good does all this magic do me? ...I'm completely powerless."

Malleus has also previously acted in ways which suggest that he interacts with the world by projecting his own experiences onto others and relating to them that way. For example, he helps out the late ghosts in Endless Halloween Night because he feels a kinship with them as someone who also misses out on celebrations. In his own dorm uniform vignettes, Malleus thinks of what would be most convenient for him to attend dorm meetings and disregards how his classmates would feel at being summoned like objects. This makes sense, as he has a limited understanding of the world beyond his castle walls and of non-fae societies in general. Malleus only has his own experiences to go off of.

Thinking of it like that, it does make some semblance of sense. Malleus's subconscious desire for control might be trickling into the dreams and either influencing or overriding what the dreamers truly desire in their hearts. And while we're on this topic, maybe it also depends on the dreamer...? Like maybe the more emotionally vulnerable the dreamer is, the more of Malleus's subconscious impacts them? For example, Cater has demonstrated confusion over his identity and what he wishes to do for his internships. This lack of self could mean that Malleus's influence projected more strongly on Cater's dream in order to fill in all those cracks, thus resulting in a dream that is very far away from, even the opposite of, what Cater wants. Azul and Vil have had histories where they were judged and rejected by their peers. Leona and Jamil have their "second place syndromes". And Lilia has to deal with the inevitability of aging and leaving behind his loved ones for a foreign land...

But hey, that's just a theory ^^ A gaaaaaame theory--

Crack Twisted Wonderland Rook Hunt Theory/Headcanon

Spoiler Talks For: Endless Halloween Night, Tamashina-Mina Event and Book 6

I would also like to preface this by saying it it not at all serious, and more so for fun and the funnies…

All the recent lore drops have caused me to have an idea for Rook’s secretive background.

The recent reveal of bird beastmen being a thing in Twisted Wonderland during the Tamashina-Mina event, and how the bits of lore we received from that reveal line up with Rook as a character very well. Such as the almost ‘migration’ style way his family go from manor to manor, his near-inhuman eyesight, a sharp sense of smell. A lot of animal-type traits that while aren’t impossible for a human alone to possess (especially in a world of magic), certainly feel to continent to just ‘have’ or ‘learned’ for one as quiet about himself as Rook.

Defunctlovesong/Haru even has a rather excellent translated theory made by Alai_Legends here (https://defunctlovesong.tumblr.com/post/710524381915414528/rook-hunts-true-nature-a-translated-theory) that details a lot more of Rook’s bird-like traits and quirks better than I ever could, and even proses a way more unique hypothesis at the end that’s real interesting, I highly recommend reading! (There was also a user that just straight-up made a ‘Rook is a Bird Beastman based on all this new and old evidence with sources’ theory that was the basis of my realization, but I never liked the post and for the life of me, I cannot find it again. >~< If someone knows which post I am referring to and can link it to me it would be deeply appreciated, that person put in the serious work so my silly little idea could toddle.)

So, that got me thinking. If Rook’s a bird, what kind of bird is he? The obvious answer is raven, for that of the Evil Queen’s dutiful familiar, but that doesn’t feel like quite the right fit for Rook imo. He’s too… much. One could go the opposite direction and say, peacock, because beauty and symbolism and important bird which would fit Rook’s family seeming important. Closer but not quiet.

So I combed through my mind, wondering, could I narrow it down by trying to think of other Disney birds he may have had inspiration drawn from? The first obvious answer is a vulture, due to Sunset Savanah and Lion King, but those are scavengers and not hunters. Most the other predator birds are either in films too obscure or just, not even close to fitting Rook. Strange birds… omnivore, if not predator… four siblings…

And it hit me in a flash. Just an idea, one so silly I cannot help but adore it.

Rook Hunt is a Macaw because he represents the French bird in the Enchanted Tiki Room.

This idea absolutely does not address the ‘then why is Rook’s family seemingly so important’ and I do not care, it doesn’t matter. Rook being a Macaw, loud, wild, brash birds that they are is fitting for him, imo. This could even mean that story he told Sebek during the Halloween event is the truth, because Macaws are tropical forest dwelling birds. 

I would also like to add under this idea, this means the chaos of Rook’s other four siblings also having accents, just a bad as his, entirely different from his own accent. Their home life, chaos (positive) with eternal rivalry. Constant sibling goading, ever raising stakes in challenges, the drama. The Cain Instinct in full effect, at all times. Conversations in multiple different languages across separate rooms of their house. Eccentricities aren’t just personality traits, they are a way of life.

I would say that I’m kind, very empathetic and the type of person that people feel they are able to confide in. You’ll probably see me as quiet before you get to know me, and I am pretty shy to be honest, so it does take a minute for me to open up. But once you get to know me, it's different. Internally, I’m emotional and sensitive but I’m not used to expressing it outwardly, and I think that can cause me to sometimes be mistaken as aloof or unwelcoming from afar. I don’t think I’m very good at hiding my negative feelings around other people– I can be very moody and serious when I’m not mentally well. I just have the most intense and overwhelming emotions EVER, and it’s really difficult, but I just need to feel somewhat understood and given space to deal with the stuff in my head. I tend to have a few close friends, but most of the time I end up sticking with my one fave person. And I don't make friends often, but when I commit to someone, you know it's real and meaningful. You also don't want to get on my bad side. 😀 😑 If I don't like someone, I won't necessarily show It, but I won't exactly make the effort to hide it either. And I don't pretend to like someone if I just don't. Whether I like to get out and do stuff or not depends on the people and everything– but of course I love to have fun! I'm creative and have a lot of ideas for things. Some things I struggle with are: anxiety, feeling insecure, asking for help, perfectionistic tendencies, staying grounded, getting tired/low energy easily, getting side-tracked and getting caught up in my own head. I'm just a silly little ball of intensity and sweetness I guess haha

Reiner might look super macho and tough but really he’s the biggest softie. When you both meet for the first time, you’re instantly judging him and he’s doing the same to you. It starts off a little rocky but once Reiner starts talking, you start to open up and suddenly the two of you are inseparable. You’re at each other’s beck and call no matter how late it gets. Late night drive? Let’s go. In need of cuddles? Coming right up.

Your first date with Reiner was at an amusement park where Reiner spent a shit ton on one stall because he was determined to win you the giant bear and refused to leave for anything else. Highlight of the night was when you won the round on your first go leaving the giant man stumped and claiming the game was rigged.

Reiner needs someone to lean on occasionally and you need someone to keep you grounded so who more perfect than the simp master. If Reiner ever feels unwell then his first instinct is to call you. He just needs you to come over and be present with him. And when you need Reiner on those bad days, he’s already at your door because he noticed a change in how you text him. He’s very observant like that and it’s what keeps you both grounded together.

So ever since I saw the event, I kept thinking about the spirits that possessed some of the main characters. After a while I figured, "Why not make profiles for them?"

Keep in mind these are MY perceptions on them. Some people might have different versions and that's okay.
