i cant really tell if yuu's involvement in ace's character is more for fanservice reasons or because they really did play a part in his character development.

like in nbc we have malleus choosing to focus on finishing the task at hand as quickly as possible so that they can then find the prefect rather than drop everything there at that moment and prioritizing finding yuu. (iirc) and compared to that we have ace who does put a lot of emphasis on finding yuu especially when no one seems to remember it during the halloween event it feels very traditionally fanservice-y ? and i cant really tell where the line is drawn for ace anymore. and you did mention a lot of other points in another post that you made esp with ace's dream recently dropping and the fact that hes the only guy whos dream yuu was actively involved in idk its a little confusing for me i hope im making sense TT no shade to the shippers im just a little slow in comprehending it all bvbvsjdj

your posts are always really neutral and accurate it just helps to clear up a lot of my confusions and questions i have when playing so thank you for your hard work!

iufipaerasfeao Thank you for the feedback! I'm glad you find my posts helpful. I try my best to be objective when it comes to analyzing the story and characters, but there's no true way for someone to be completely neutral. There are definitely times when I have an aside to insert my two cents on a situation or I get super heated about a particular topic. Hopefully I still leave enough space for everyone to come to their own conclusions.

I think it's both fanservice and because Yuu actually plays a big part in Ace's character development? Like, it's technically fanservice but it does not feel egregious because it fits Ace’s teasing nature and Ace's bond with Yuu has been established from the start. He was the first student we met at NRC and we spend so much time with him since then; there's no way Yuu wouldn't have had an impact on him, especially when book 7 is now paralleling the two as people with insecurities about being weak/unable to do anything + not contributing enough and Yuu encouraging him when he finally gets his UM.

I commonly see people joking about Malleus having "missed the meeting about Twst not being a dating sim" and holding him up as "the main love interest". (And to be clear, Twst isn't a dating sim, nor do all Twst fans see the characters romantically; I am only speaking about this in a romantic lens in the context of this post.) However, I think there's a very strong case to be made for Ace as well. The thing is, I also feel that Malleus and Ace fundamentally appeal to two different groups of yumejoshi. Malleus is the tall, dark, and mysterious type you can "fix", the type of guy that would burn the world down for you. Ace is the teasing and approachable boy-next-door that has your back and supports you even when the entire world is against you. This is also evident in the ways they're set up in the main story; Malleus is introduced in a way that encourages much more "filling in of the gaps" due to how little he actually shows up in front of Yuu in the main story. It gives the player a lot of space to imagine what their relationship with him is like because there isn't a ton of interactions in canon to go off of. Meanwhile, Ace has many more canonized interactions with Yuu (eating lunch, doing homework, watching movies, playing video games, etc.), so the effort of thinking about what they actually do over the course of their relationship is already done for you. There is an established friendship and connection with Ace, but you barely see Malleus enough to truly have a strong impact on him or to change him. Does that make sense?

IADUPADF9A9FSBdb I do find it sort of funny that Malleus is basically like, "Oh, something unexpected happened (ie Yuu is missing). We'd better solve this." Not really showing much emotion about them being gone in Nightmare. (Malleus only gets annoyed when Leona begins to take charge; he is not mad at the fact that Yuu is gone.) Meanwhile Yuu is missing in Endless Halloween Night and Ace is the FIRST person to excuse himself to check Ramshackle for them.

If you consult the fandom and the fandom alone, you'd think the situation would be reversed. Edit: Malleus does have his moments of intimacy with Yuu (which I won’t be getting into here because then I fear this post would veer into shipping wars), but the English speaking Twst fandom has a VERY strong bias for Malleus x Yuu. Because of that, there is a tendency to misinterpret or misattribute every little thing that Malleus says and does to support the idea that "Yuu is his most important person". (For example, even though Malleus provides no reaction at all when Skully kisses the back of Yuu's hand, many Malleus fans claimed that he would be very jealous or would harm Skully for doing such a thing. In another Halloween event, Glorious Masquerade, people believed he was angry at Rollo for harming Yuu even though this was not the case; the event states that he was mad because the invitation he had been extended was a fake one.)

It is because of thinking like this that a lot of English speakers genuinely believed Malleus would OB in book 7 in a desperate attempt to prevent Yuu from returning to their original world. Misinterpretations, headcanons, misattributions, and personal projections were conflated with canon, leading to many people to believe that Malleus was closer with Yuu than they actually are. Instead, Malleus ended up OBing because he feared Lilia leaving and he barely even considers Yuu after he OBs. And, ironically, Ace is the character whose dream prominently features Yuu and a scenario in which Yuu doesn't have to leave them forever. It was always Ace that we had a strong relationship with, not Malleus.

Ace is often overlooked even though he has far more canon interactions with Yuu in the main story. I think this could maybe to chalked up to a combination of him being "boring" compared to the literal DARK FAE OP CROWN PRINCE M. Draconia over there and the fact that so many of those "gaps" are already filled by the main story. There's less room for imagination because the game has already defined what Ace and Yuu's relationship entails. Malleus is just so much more appealing when it comes to intrigue and mysteriousness. When you look at it objectively though... Yuu only meets Malleus face-to-face like 5-6 times for brief conversations. (Edit: I’m not counting voice lines because those are arguably directed at the player, not Yuu, to endear the character to you and/or all characters get similar voice line fanservice. The canonicity is questionable since the same familiarity in voice lines is not carried over to the main story.) 5-6 times… That's not nearly long enough to make a huge impact or change in his life (unless you as the player extrapolate and imagine more Malleus and Yuu interactions outside of the ones we see in the main story). At best, I think you could say Malleus is glad he can have a special little friend who doesn't know of his name and status? He doesn't really change because of that relationship though. Malleus doesn't even show up until book 2. But Ace has literally been there since the beginning, canonically spends tons of his free time with Yuu, and has been through several near-life experiences with them (several OBs). He has the chance to bond with Yuu. Malleus does not. (He has given Yuu advice once, sent them a card once, and reassembled a stage for them once; all other interactions in the main story are short talks.)

It makes a lot of sense that Ace would be the one "touched" by Yuu's influence, whether you see it as romantic or platonic. Both he and Malleus (and all the other characters, really) get their moments of fanservice--but very few characters' development is directly impacted by Yuu's presence. Yuu might be there for most of the main story, but they actually get only a few moments to engage with the other boys in the cast to the point of actually changing them. It feels like the changes that occur are more often the result of the other boys (Trey standing up to Riddle and holding his hand afterwards, Epel and Deuce bonding on the beach, the twins telling Azul he's lame but also being the first to check up on him following the OB, Idia finalizing his farewells with Ortho, etc.) Ace just so happens to be an exception to that, as Yuu very clearly plays a big role in his development.

Hi guys!!!!!!! Sooooooooo............ this is going to be a little bit of a... different post.

So Twisted Wonderland got an update recently. It's for Cay-Cay's birthday! I was so exciteddddd (frequent readers will know how much I LOVE Cay-Cay~✩) you know me, I was r e a d y to use the keys he gave me at log-in to pull on his latest birthday banner~

Aaaaaaaand that was when my game crashed ༎ຶ⁠‿⁠༎ຶ 💔 it's not like it was that big of a deal, but it's still annoying!!!!

But for some reason, my game is acting strangely now...

It's not something that messes with the gameplay or anything, and it's not corrupted or broken (that I know of??? I'm so bad with tech stuff sorry >.<) I still had all my cards, so I really couldn't care less about whatever caused the crash or if it messed with anything tbh, in my mind: all's good!~✩

I logged back on and it looked like everything had saved before the crash, the game skipped the log-in bonus screen and the birthday message from Cay-Cay, and when I went back to the gacha tab I still had the tenfold key set, so everything looked okay, for now. So I pulled on Cay-Cay's platinum jacket birthday card! you've all seen how much I suffered getting the bloom birthday card last February, so I was hoping to everything that he'd come home easily this year (⁠╥���﹏⁠╥⁠)........... AND GUESS WHAT??? HE DID!! Aaaaaa guys he loves me soooo much it's unreallll♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡ :D

But........... that's when the weird stuff really started. You know I've always looked for spoilers the moment a new event that includes Cater comes out, scary monsters, firelit sky, tsumsted, playful land, beans day, his club card, his birthdays... hell, even his chef and new years cards!!! I'm a fiend for Cay-Cay, I love him so much!! Honestly I don't even care if I like how the outfit looks anymore, I just loooove Cater Diamond!!!!

That's getting a bit outside the point, oopsies- The point is, I already know ALL of platinum Cay-Cay's voice lines, summon line, vignettes, home screen lines, and obviously all his battle and levelup and guest room etc lines, since those stay the same. I have everything memorized atp! So, of course I noticed when there was a completely different line than expected once he successfully came home. You know, the part of the summon that has a teeny tiny story dialogue segment?

Platinum jacket Cater is supposed to say something about how the museum he's visiting is more than a century old, then goes on about tagging a selfie. But for some reason, the line was slightly....... off??????????? It was worded differently than it should have been, and Cay-Cay didn't even say "hashtag" before saying his post tags! Can you believe that?!

Obviously I assumed it was just a translation mixup. I know twst en has that sometimes; changing a line that implies Cay-Cay is bi, getting rid of the word "master" in relation to Jamil's hypnotism, forgetting that Floyd calls Vil "betta chan senpai" (tho that mistake might also be on jp server, tbh I can't remember lol sorry Floyd but I only have eyes for Cay-Cay~♡) shit man they even called Kalim "Kamil" at one point in the endless halloween night event! With all those issues, and how the game is translated in general, I really really didn't think anything of it that Cay-Cay's summon line was a bit different than I thought it would be.

But then the weird things just....... kept happening??????? Cay-Cay's home lines were different than they should be, and some of them actually looked like they changed every single time?? But I just thought I was misreading, who wouldn't assume that?! Especially since I've been awake for two days straight---

So I just went to sleep for the night (day?) and assumed the game would be back to normal when I was back to normal!

I woke up at liiiiiike 7pm?? It's a bit hard for me to tell, I'm always in such a haze when I wake up! I'm completely conscious and safe, I just don't really know what's going on for a good hour or so after I first wake up, just how I am and how I've always been ╮⁠(⁠.⁠ ⁠❛⁠ ⁠ᴗ⁠ ⁠❛⁠.⁠)⁠╭ sadly this means this part won't be very coherent, but it's so vivid in my mind even despite the wakeup fog bc like..... I could NEVER have expected what I experienced.

I still needed to level up platinum Cay-Cay since I was too sleepy to earlier, so I immediately went to do that! I gave him all the honey he could ever want (I felt soooo bad since he doesn't like sweets 💔) and thanks to the birthday levelup rate bonus, I got excellent and was actually able to entirely level him to max immediately! I obviously did the same with his vignette lvl and spell lvls and buddy lvls (THANK YOU TWST EN 3RD ANNIVERSARY UPDATE 😭) and used my ssr perfumes to fully uncap him♡♡♡♡

I was sooooo happy to just have alone time with him, it feels like the game never allows that in the stories ughhhh why must Ace of all things be this game's favouriteee....... Cay-Cay deserves it so much more and I will argue that until I die ಠ⁠︵⁠ಠ

Sorry, sorry, back to it again! I went back to the card lvl tab, since I fully uncapped him and had to do more levelling since I forgot to uncap beforehand (silly me!) and that's when I noticed the strangest thing of all.......

The level line was....... different? And like, way too different for it to just be me not remembering the line properly. It looked like the way he speaks when he drops the act, but not trying to hide it? The text wasn't shown to be just his thoughts, it was written like he was actually speaking. The line wasn't voice acted or anything either. A voice line still plays, but it was clearly his second default levelup line, not whatever this was???

You know me. Even if it's unrealistic, I immediately assumed the worst lol, I thought someone hacked and modded my account or something!!!!! AGAIN, I know this is unrealistic so there's no need to make fun of me, I was outtttt of it :( Then, you know, panic started happening. I thought I'd get banned or something (emotions have already been really bad lately, and I did not need this stress!!)

The weird lines just kept happening after that. My panicking went away eventually, and I started realizing, none of these strange lines had proper voicing or model work, they always borrowed the voicing and model work from other normal lines. So, I could definitely tell these were completely outside the regular pool of voice lines. That made the panicking worse, sadly, since I thought more than ever that these were added by an outside force... of course I was also still worried about getting banned, but also that would mean someone was messing with my lovely precious Cay-Cay!! >:(

After the panic 2.0 -now featuring slight rage- settled, I started truly reading these weird lines. They never repeated, each one was unique. He started talking about someone "outside"???

Ahhhh, but that's when the best thing happened~♡! I said something out loud, and Cay-Cay actually directly responded with the next line!! It referenced what I said perfectly... like it couldn't have been randomly generated, or even ai (but then again, I said I don't know much about tech), it felt like someone I have conversations with regularly responding to me....

And after that, I was just so............

..happy.

That's it, I was happy.

I was happy that he was actually talking to me.

I didn't care what he was really talking about, I just knew he was.... there. And he could understand me.

Cay-Cay was speaking directly to me.

He said he was trapped in there, somehow... and he wasn't Cay-Cay, just some guy stuck using him to communicate... ehhh, he explained it all in so much detail, but if I'm being honest, I really didn't give less of a shit about what he was actually saying!

I didn't care, because he was trapped.

Cay-Cay was trapped.

He was trapped with me.

And you know what? I was happy. I was so, so happy that he was trapped.

All of you know how much I love Cay-Cay, and hey, I'll even be the first to admit that it's a liiiiiittle bit of an obsession with him. I just love him so, so much. Cay-Cay is just so important to me... he's such a perfect character..... everything about him. Everything.

I love him.

I love him so much that I'll even accept someone who just resembles him in looks alone. I can make them act like how they're supposed to.

That's why this was such a wonderful situation! I had a sentient Cay-Cay just......... literally in the palm of my hand, and I couldn't be happier.

I love him... I love him so purely, so wholely, anyone reading this will know...

It doesn't matter if Cay-Cay doesn't act like how he should yet, I can help him. That's why I don't care about his problems, he's just solved all of mine. My game is perfect now, I hope it never updates! I love him!!

truly, he felt a bit jealous when hearing about okkotsu's venture to a foreign country. he couldn't remember, but did it matter? maybe it did, but, all he wanted was an escape.

he thought he would find that else where. where his grandfather voice wouldn't echo. where cement wasn't stained with junpei's tears. he wanted to get away. away from the cruel word of curses he was slowly swallowed by, finger by finger.

the beach was always quiet during the night; before sunrise, after sunset. to yuuji, the small moment of peace—he loved the sounds of the waves crashing—was his escape.

"the ocean is strangely calming, isnt it?"

hours. the both of you spoke for hours. that simply phrase, the first introduction of your delicate voice as it wafted through the salty air to his ears, would permeate you into his life. his eyes met yours, a spark as bright as the sun rising beside the both of you marked the unstoppable change in both of your lives.

it felt hard to breath, unlike how it felt with you. there no longer was the flowing nonsense that came as easy as each pulse of the ocean. there no longer was the feeling of your hands running through the wild tufts of his hair as your spoke about your classes. yuuji missed it all.

SO LIKE—!!! We know from TWST Halloween Endless Night, Rook had difficulty expressing emotions until he watched Neige perform on stage for the first time— Imagine if child! Rook was a complete 180° from the Rook we know now? He’d still have a fascination with beauty and everything, but he just expresses it differently? I can see him following anything and anyone beautiful wordlessly—

Imagine Rook casually following someone cause they piqued his interest, and that someone is confused AF why some “lost” kid is tailing them. …And then Rook’s parents have to pull him side and apologize to the person

Imagine Rook’s parents and siblings trying so hard to get Rook to emote— tickling him to make him laugh, feeding him his favourite foods to see if he’ll react to it any differently than other foods—

I can also see Rook being fairly put together as a child, but similar to Kalim, the moment he stepped into NRC, he dropped all his hair care routine and stopped putting on sunscreen. In fact— wouldn’t it be funny if child! Rook hated sunscreen? Maybe back then, the sunscreen they had just had a weird smell that bugged him.

Ngl— I can also kinda see Rook having some touch aversion as a kid— so maybe his parents put sunscreen on him less or brushed/styled his hair less, which may be the reason why Rook didn’t care for his appearance as much.

We know from Vil, Rook didn’t put on sunscreen during their first year of NRC, but I refuse to believe his parents wouldn’t make him put it on as a kid.

He definitely has more luck when Wen Kexing proposes he pose as a man to infiltrate the Conference - although to be quite frank, the Valley Master acts...oddly, once he shows his true self.

Crack Twisted Wonderland Rook Hunt Theory/Headcanon

Spoiler Talks For: Endless Halloween Night, Tamashina-Mina Event and Book 6

I would also like to preface this by saying it it not at all serious, and more so for fun and the funnies…

All the recent lore drops have caused me to have an idea for Rook’s secretive background.

The recent reveal of bird beastmen being a thing in Twisted Wonderland during the Tamashina-Mina event, and how the bits of lore we received from that reveal line up with Rook as a character very well. Such as the almost ‘migration’ style way his family go from manor to manor, his near-inhuman eyesight, a sharp sense of smell. A lot of animal-type traits that while aren’t impossible for a human alone to possess (especially in a world of magic), certainly feel to continent to just ‘have’ or ‘learned’ for one as quiet about himself as Rook.

Defunctlovesong/Haru even has a rather excellent translated theory made by Alai_Legends here (https://defunctlovesong.tumblr.com/post/710524381915414528/rook-hunts-true-nature-a-translated-theory) that details a lot more of Rook’s bird-like traits and quirks better than I ever could, and even proses a way more unique hypothesis at the end that’s real interesting, I highly recommend reading! (There was also a user that just straight-up made a ‘Rook is a Bird Beastman based on all this new and old evidence with sources’ theory that was the basis of my realization, but I never liked the post and for the life of me, I cannot find it again. >~< If someone knows which post I am referring to and can link it to me it would be deeply appreciated, that person put in the serious work so my silly little idea could toddle.)

So, that got me thinking. If Rook’s a bird, what kind of bird is he? The obvious answer is raven, for that of the Evil Queen’s dutiful familiar, but that doesn’t feel like quite the right fit for Rook imo. He’s too… much. One could go the opposite direction and say, peacock, because beauty and symbolism and important bird which would fit Rook’s family seeming important. Closer but not quiet.

So I combed through my mind, wondering, could I narrow it down by trying to think of other Disney birds he may have had inspiration drawn from? The first obvious answer is a vulture, due to Sunset Savanah and Lion King, but those are scavengers and not hunters. Most the other predator birds are either in films too obscure or just, not even close to fitting Rook. Strange birds… omnivore, if not predator… four siblings…

And it hit me in a flash. Just an idea, one so silly I cannot help but adore it.

Rook Hunt is a Macaw because he represents the French bird in the Enchanted Tiki Room.

This idea absolutely does not address the ‘then why is Rook’s family seemingly so important’ and I do not care, it doesn’t matter. Rook being a Macaw, loud, wild, brash birds that they are is fitting for him, imo. This could even mean that story he told Sebek during the Halloween event is the truth, because Macaws are tropical forest dwelling birds. 

I would also like to add under this idea, this means the chaos of Rook’s other four siblings also having accents, just a bad as his, entirely different from his own accent. Their home life, chaos (positive) with eternal rivalry. Constant sibling goading, ever raising stakes in challenges, the drama. The Cain Instinct in full effect, at all times. Conversations in multiple different languages across separate rooms of their house. Eccentricities aren’t just personality traits, they are a way of life.

Batman: The Long Halloween #13:Chapter 13: Punishment

Synopsis: Alberto Falcone reveals himself as Holiday and prepares to shoot James Gordon. The fallen guard rises and attacks Falcone, beats him to a pulp and when he is done, he takes off his armor and reveals himself as Batman. Gordon arrests Alberto for the murder of Salvatore Maroni.

When the word is known about the identity of Holiday, Carmine Falcone visits his son Alberto in prison and offers him help getting out with no consequences. Alberto refuses, given the fact that he has made a name for himself and that he is now bigger than any member of the Falcone Crime Family. Gordon and Batman analyze the situation and realize that it all makes sense: Alberto faked his own death to throw them off while he continued killing people. However, Batman feels guilty because he always suspected his friend, the district attorney, Harvey Dent.

On Halloween night, James and Barbara visit Gilda at her home. The woman is still worried for his husband, as there has been no signs of him.

Later, in Arkham Asylum, someone is setting some of the most dangerous inmates free. The mysterious man approaches Calendar Man's cell and flips a coin to decide wether to set him free or not. In the end, the man leaves Calendar Man in his cell.

A few moments later, at Falcone's Penthouse, Carmine is furious because Alberto has been sentenced to die and sill he refused his father's help. On the outside, someone is taking out all the Falcone guards by killing them. The power in the whole building is gone and Carmine is left with his daughter Sofia to confront whoever has entered his building. They follow the trail of dead security guards bodies until they arrive at Carmine's office, where they are confronted by a group of what Falcone would call "freaks". Solomon Grundy, The Mad Hatter, Joker, Penguin, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, Catwoman and the mysterious man are waiting for Carmine to get inside. Carmine points his gun towards the mysterious man, who is leading the rest of them and demands an answer. The leader of the gang rises and reveals himself as Harvey Dent, only that he is different now. The left half of his face is completely scarred and he calls himself Two-Face. Joker urges Two-Face to kill Carmine so they can split the city between them. At that moment, a smoke bomb is thrown inside through a vent in the roof. Batman comes down on top of Grundy and knocks him down as he releases more smoke bombs. Batman then takes the enemies one by one, from the most dangerous to the less threatening. First Grundy and Joker, then Ivy, Hatter and Penguin and in the end Scarecrow. Batman asks Catwoman whose side is she on and she replies that she is on the same side as always. Batman didn't noticed Two-Face and the man has taken Carmine Falcone as a hostage. Batman recognizes Harvey but Two-Face explains him that Harvey is gone. Batman tries to make Harvey think his actions but Two-Face tells him that no matter how many times they send people like Falcone to jail, they'll come out and it will be and endless vicious cycle and that justice can be decided like a flip of a coin. Two-Face tosses his coin and it lands on the scarred side and thus Two-Face shots Falcone twice in the head. Sofia is enraged to see what Two-Face has done and tries to attack him while Catwoman tries to hold her. Their struggle lead them to the window when Sofia stumbles and crushes it with her weight. Catwoman tries to save her but Sofia falls down from the building. Batman tries to make Harvey surrender, but Two-Face tricks him and knocks him down with the weapon.

Two-Face goes to the District Attorney's office and confronts Vernon Wells, his corrupt assistant. Two-Face realized that Wells was the person who gave Maroni the acid the day of the trial and with a flip of his coin, Harvey kills Vernon. After recovering, Batman arrives late at the scene and finds only Two-Face's coin at the same time that the Bat-Signal is lightened in the sky.

Batman arrives at the GCPD Headquarters and finds Two-Face waiting for him. Two-Face tells him that he did what was needed to be done. James Gordon appears in the rooftop and Two-Face explains them that he just did what the city needed to be rid of the organized crime once and for all. Gordon tells him that despite the goal, Dent betrayed everything he believed in and Two-Face tells him that it is not true. He turns himself and tells Gordon to arrest him in order to let the system decide his fate. Before Two-Face is taken away, he tells Batman and Gordon that there were two holiday killers all the time. Gordon and Batman try to make sense of what Two-Face said. Gordon explains that Alberto confessed to be the author of all the crimes and Batman tells him that Dent is obsessed with the number two and that it might be just a delusion, but that considering that Two-Face killed Falcone with a .22 gun on Halloween, in the end, Two-Face was holiday too. Gordon and Batman realize that they achieved their promise, to get rid of Falcone once and for all, but the price they had to paid seemed to be quite extreme.

Gordon goes to his family, where he decides that despite the events, he must go on his mission to make Gotham a better city by telling himself "I believe in Gotham City".

Batman is sure that what he is doing is of consequence and he won't give up on the promise made to his parents. Batman tells himself "I believe in Batman".

Two-Face is send to Arkham Asylum, where the only thing he can think of is his wife, Gilda…

On Christmas Eve, Gilda is packing up boxes for her move away from Gotham, but before she leaves, she takes a box down the basement furnace. She describes aloud to herself how she read in Harvey's case files about the removal of the serial numbers of guns and how baby bottle nipples could be used as silencers. She then removes from the box a .22 pistol and drops it into the flames of the heater, along with a familiar-looking hat and coat. And she claims that she took it upon herself to start the Holiday killings, in an attempt to end the Roman's hold on Gotham and thus lighten Harvey's caseload so that they could have a child. Her belief is that Harvey took up the killings on New Year's Eve and that Alberto is lying to the police with his confession. She also says that she knows Harvey will eventually be alright and that they will reconcile as she tells herself "I believe in Harvey Dent".
