I think as an autistic person the idea of autistic Rui isn’t like. Inherently Bad or anything. I think there’s other characters that have more stuff supporting it (Kanade, Nene, Kohane) but it’s not like inherently a bad headcanon or interpretation
but the way people *handle* it is….. weird……
Like it’s used a lot as a justification for his behavior. Which like I’ve BEEN ostracized for being autistic so I know what it feels like. And I don’t think he deserves to be ostracized. But why are we acting like him literally using bombs on school campus with absolutely zero qualifications is a normal thing that needs to be defended.
Like that’s still extremely dangerous to the other students and just completely disregarding of other peoples safety. I don’t care how much Rui claims he “has it under control” he’s a teenager!!!! He doesn’t have a degree in pyrotechnics!!!!! He should not be doing that especially not at a public school where people could get hurt!!!!
And like if for whatever reason he genuinely needed to do something with explosions. Like if it’s a stim or a special interest or whatever. There’s a lot of safer alternatives you could try?
stim boards are a thing! Video games are a thing! Fanfic is a thing! If it’s the science process of it I’m sure you can simulate something similar in real life that is far safer. I’m sure if he has a psychologist they could help come up with other options. Literally if he needs to do these dangerous stunts there are safe!!! Alternatives!!!!! It doesn’t need to be the real thing!
Also, like, if it does need to be the real thing - one, keep it to shows maybe??? Where everyone is consenting??? Two, there are actual pyro technicians that you can hire for that exact purpose. Rui has no reason to mess with dangerous explosives unless it’s for budget reasons which like I THINK omitting real explosions or going for a safer alternative that mimics explosions is a better idea than messing with dangerous ones and having little to no clue what you’re doing. Sure maybe Rui has read up on it but he’s still a teenager and still isn’t a professional and shouldn’t be trusted with dangerous equipment that could hurt others in public.
Rui doing this type of stuff around Tsukasa and himself is one thing, because at least they’re consenting, but in public is a whole different story.
I feel like the fandom babies and infantilizes Rui. Like “oh noooo he’s just autistic it’s not his fault he puts people in mortal danger :((((( look at him!!! He’s so sweet!!!!!” I just. I don’t like it. I think autistic people SHOULD be allowed to point out the ableist undertones here without like, being shot down.
And yeah it’s true some autistic people might not know when they’re doing things wrong, but that’s still not a justification to defend his right to put people in mortal danger??????
Like, if Rui doesn’t understand that, he still. Shouldn’t be doing it. Like he should still be given safer alternatives that could maybe work instead and be safer for everybody involved. Not given free rein to cause as much damage as he wants that’s. Idk I don’t like that and I don’t like how much people fervently defend it.
Giving him alternatives isn’t, like, a Bad Thing. He can engage with dangerous stunts in safer ways or at least do it in a way that doesn’t endanger other non-consenting people.
And also, like, Rui and other characters doing this type of stuff for the sake of comedy isn’t actually a bad thing imo I still think it can be funny so I’m not saying it should be erased or toned down in the actual story. I just think people trying to defend it from a moral stand point is weird. Like you can acknowledge it’s not. A good thing to do in real life???? And maybe not glorify it????? And still enjoy/find it funny in the story like it’s just a comedy thing.
Maybe this doesn’t make sense I’m tired but. Idk I don’t like how people treat Rui being autistic as a justification for anything he does wrong ever. It feels infantilizing.

v; fallout 4 companion
October 23, 2077:  The world ends.  The East and West bomb one another into annihilation, the government retreats into the safety of their oil rigs, an awol group of soldiers form their own little militant survival group, the vaults seal well below their maximum capacity, and the rest are left to loot, riot, panic, and either ghoulify or die in the leftover chaos.
Not everyone dies.  It isn’t a, “and then all was silent,” situation.  More people scrambled and panicked than tried to keep the peace, but those not caught in the immediate area of the bombs survived - at least for a time.  Tony Stark is one of those people.  Something he should have seen but hasn’t, is the buffering effect of his arc reactor, which keeps him in a stasis all its own.  It keeps his heart beating, it keeps the shrapnel out of his heart, it keeps the ambient radiation neutralized.  He survives.
And survives.
And eventually lives long enough to see settlements begin to form again in the New York wasteland, begins to establish his own, help connect them in a network of security and exchange.  Sees, on a smaller scale, his goals for things like clean energy start to come to life in making the post-war world he finds himself living in as comfortable as possible.  His own technology advances, not through his most-used fix on fail method of testing, but through simulations, calculations, long years of ruminations that are carefully weighed and considered before he acts, because resources are scarce and there are some changes he’s making the he knows he can’t take back if he goes through with them.  Errors are checked for, the math checked and rechecked a hundred times, all while the vaults open and people begin once more to strive for some semblance of life in a place that’s far removed from the one before the bombs.
And he’s content that way.  He’s busy.  He’s occupied and making a difference somewhere, until a group of power armored soldiers pass New York a little too slow in their cosplay of the Hindenburg and he decides that, with New York as stable as he can personally make it, it’s time to branch out and see what else is out there, following them into the Commonwealth just in time to hear their “do not interfere” speech.  He doesn’t have an intention to stay, but plans have a way of going awry, at the worst of times.
technical info ;;
Tony comes as his own free agent to the Commonwealth to investigate the Brotherhood of Steel.  From his position in New York, he’s heard rumors from passing caravans both coming from DC and leaving Boston, but rumors are rumors, and he wants solid, verifiable facts, because their crawl past New York was too slow for his own liking.  He’s been alive long enough in the wasteland that he, like everyone else that lives there, is much less trusting than he originally would have been.  He’s suspicious, can be cagey, paranoid, and above all, take an us vs. them mentality when it comes to anyone that displays violent tendencies, such as raiders.
He doesn’t go by Iron Man - if you put that one together it’s probably because it’s been a dire situation, and he’s used the suit.  He doesn’t do that often anymore.  Instead, he picks up the moniker Handyman from various settlements, or the Mechanic.  Or he’s just plain old Tony.  He’s learned the value of keeping certain things close to the vest, and doesn’t hand out personal details like candy to just anyone anymore, and he’s not exactly a public figure.
His primary goals in the Commonwealth are gaining info about the Brotherhood of Steel, and will grow to finding out more about the Institute, Railroad, and Minutemen, as he starts to put together pieces to see there’s a bigger picture in front of him.  It’s because he’s insatiably curious, nosy, and likes to put his thumb in pies it probably doesn’t belong in, because he’s a busybody.  The Minutemen gain him as an ally, as, outside of a SoSu, he’ll put together settlements (eventually) of his own, because he can’t help himself.  The Railroad does good work, but he’s not interested in joining, and they don’t want him.  He’s too loud, too direct, and even if he did get Black Ops training from SHIELD, he doesn’t use it in a way that would be conductive to the Railroad’s goals.
His main bases are: Fort Hagen:  This he cleans up after the SoSu has their Kellogg-killing rampage and turns it into a lab.  The town around he spruces up and makes ready for settlement...Further down the line.  He’ll start with the ones in Fort Hagen at first, but he’ll also rebuild and reprogram Gen 1 and 2 synths in Commonwealth, building a ground force of the Iron Legion.  Waste not, want not, you know how it goes.  The same goes for unclaimed power armor, he’ll snag that, as well, and any assaultrons, protectrons, and other robots he can get his hands on.  He’ll gripe about the wiring and coding of General Atomics and RobCo, but he’ll strip them clean and use them as a case to do his own work. Cambridge Polymer Labs:  If anyone’s going to get this place workable in seriousness again, it’s definitely him.  Will wander along and find it either with or without the SoSu (depending on if a SoSu is in play and if they mess with the quest there or not).  This will be Lab #2, with no settlement outside.  This is the one he keeps quiet and private.
He also has various boltholes he’ll establish throughout the Commonwealth, but you gotta be a VIP to know where they are.
He mostly hangs around Goodneighbor, out of the larger settlements.  He’s got a good rapport with Daisy and KLEO and prefers to trade with them over Myrna in Diamond City, and he barely glances Bunker Hill’s way because of how the raiders are paid off.  Otherwise, the best place to run into him are prewar industrial ruins.  He’s always picking them over for resources.
He favors energy weapons over ballistic weapons, but he can use either.  Wouldn’t say no to a power fist, either.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE:  If RJ MacCready has NOT been romanced or picked up as a companion by a SoSu, Tony directly defaults to the romantic relationship he has with @gwinnetts‘s MacCready, especially if there’s no expectation of shipping with the other character in play.  This is not a thing that’s set in complete stone, but Mala and her Mac have been instrumental in helping me hammer this whole verse out, so extracting Mac out of it isn’t impossible, but will require some plotting.  Note:  I don’t mind doing that plotting.  It also means that Tony isn’t unwooable - he is.  Just if nothing is initially discussed with this verse, that’s where he directly defaults to.
(The short version is Tony runs into Mac fairly early on in his time in the Commonwealth for information on the Gunners.  MacCready sees Tony is a possible cash cow because if you don’t think Tony uses his math brain to hustle at pool in the Third Rail, you’re wrong.  Shit happens.  Feelings happen.  Whoops, there’s attachment.  He helps Mac get Duncan to the Commonwealth.  They’re a ridiculous family with a grumpy merc, a reckless superhero, and a cute af kid.  The end.  Also thus why I say if he hasn’t been taken as a companion and max affinity reached, because there’s a rewriting of Mac’s whole questline in play there.)
Obviously the above does not count if threads are with a different MacCready.  I mean.  /props on elbow  /leans closer  Unless you wanna do a thing.  /waggles eyebrows  Especially since Mac is a good foil for Tony, but hey.  Just throwing that option out there.

headcanon 003.
first and foremost, i want to remind everyone reading this that this is only hypothesis, and based on my own reasoning and/or headcanon. bioware has clearly shown no interest in having set-in-stone regulations for facial markings, or they do have them but don’t want to share. regardless, my obsessive mind wants to have some type of order to their culture, so here we are! If there’s anything you’d like to discuss, especially something that seems to contradict please message me! i would love to talk about my sweet bird lizard children. with that over with, i’ll get into it. The TL;DR is just below, in case this isn’t something you’d want to really spend 5 minutes reading about, but are curious. thank you for reading !
TL;DR things that influence facial markings in turian society
family- shape
place of birth/”ethnicity”/colony where family is from- color
social status- color and/or shape
WHY DO TURIANS HAVE FACIAL MARKINGS? so this first section goes all the way back to the unification wars in the way-way back of turian history. to understand their markings at all, one needs to know at least this little tid-bit of turian history! for much of their early, civilized history, turians existed in small clusters, and as one could assume in close familial groups. they lived on colonies farthest from palaven, and therefore farthest from the hierarchy  (  the governing body of the turians  )  and essentially out of their control. these colonies were led by local chieftans and, as time went, animosity between colonies became increasingly common. turians began wearing facial markings to differentiate themselves from each other.1 this is where the hierarchy decided to simply not intervene at all. they allowed the colonies to slowly wear each other down, and they did, for years. if you’re curious as to who fought, there is a list here !
once there were less than a dozen factions still willing to fight, the hierarchy stepped in. like the romans conquering, the turian government swooped in and took control, and the ambiguous “chieftans” were renewed in their alliance to the government. “to this day, most turians still wear the facial markings of their home colonies.”1
so, turians have facial markings for the same reason that we have college sweatshirts and hats even after we graduate: pride in their history. we can assume that most, if not all of turian markings can be associated with their place of birth, or their family's original home. I like to think about it as a way to distinguish different “ethnicities” from each other.
WHAT ARE THE MARKINGS MADE OF? the human war hero john grissom describes palaven as such: “the only thing on this planet that isn't silver are the turians. it's all too clear they're made of steel." an asari diplomat describes it as “a silver world of fortresses and fire.” from these two observations, we can safely assume that palaven is not particularly colorful, and contains a soil most likely made up of more precious metals than anyone on earth would like. the markings are most likely some type of permanent paint, perhaps made from these common minerals found on palaven.  (  similar to how we would make paint from colorful rocks like hematite, limonite, kaolinite, glauconite ) it is essentially, the turian version of a “tattoo”. i’d like to point out that it’s clear that markings are not hereditary.  (  e.g. vetra and sid  /  garrus and his father  )  they are painted on at some point during a turian’s early life, and are most likely can change if someone’s life status changes.
THE TERM BAREFACED AND ITS SOCIAL CONNOTATIONS almost anywhere i’ve looked, the term “barefaced” comes up a lot in regards to facial markings. “the lack of facial markings is looked down upon in turian society; the turian term "barefaced" refers to one who is beguiling or not to be trusted. it is also a slang term for politicians.” ‘barefaced’ is clearly a slur of some kind, and it’s quite clear why. without facial markings, you aren’t really a part of a family  (  or a group, in regards to smugglers/outcasts  )  turians live in a very family-oriented society, and without your familial markings, you are truly and fully an outcast. In regards to it being slang for a politicians, i can assume it has one or two meanings. of course it is an insult  (  something not truly uncommon if you’re in a political office  )  but there is clear context based on the unification wars. the hierarchy itself stepped in to stop any fighting between smaller clans, where facial markings were more present. Perhaps since the turian colonists dislikes the hierarchy so much, the term “barefaced” became associated with the original politicians who stopped the unification wars. since then  (  using both garrus and adrien as an example  )  palaven families seems to have developed their own markings.
you can see a small list of ‘barefaced’ turians from ME and ME2 here !
From here on out, this is a lot of speculation and hypothesis!
FAMILIAL MARKINGS ! as i’ve said previously, it can be assumed that turians live in singular groups of one family or a group of close-knit families. from what we’ve been shown, families either have the exact same markings  (  adrien and tarquin  )  or similar markings  (  garrus and his father. 1  /  2  ) this of course goes back to the idea that people from the same original colonies wore similar markings. i think it’s safe to assume that turians are able to tell each other if they are related or not via facial markings. another example is the kandros’s clearly, nyreen  (  and this unnamed cousin  )  are no longer a part of the family, thanks to their choice of . . . occupation.  (  though i will get into nyreen and other “ outcasts “ in turian society later.  )  facial markings are a sign of being  “  accepted  “  , a part of a family, something looked upon as being the norm and  “  positive  “  in turian society. without facial markings, or with a certain type of facial markings, you are below the bottom of the social class.
SOCIAL CLASS ! from what we’ve seen, the higher the social class of the individual, the more facial markings they seem to have. the two turian councillor sparatus and quentius both have facial markings covering their whole face. other examples include general corinthus and nihlus kryik. everyone’s favorite primarch adrien victus is also an example of this. almost his entire face, as well as his crest. in this case there is a vice-versa. the less markings you have, the lower your social  “  rank.  “  examples include, vetra nyx, sidera nyx, and of course everyone’s favorite gay mercenary nyreen kandros ! they all have limited facial markings, and all of them are considered outcasts among the hierarchy. in andromeda, of course, a lot of turians came to escape the hierarchy and the idea of social ranking, which makes sense, all things considering. vetra and sid lived the life of a smuggler and never attended the mandatory boot camp for all turians at age 15. nyreen kandros left the family to  “  go pirate  “  on omega, according to her cousin tiran, obviously she’s no longer welcome in the family. we could assume that because kandros left as well  (  looking for his “ adventure “  )  that he also changed his markings to match his new  “  lifestyle.  “
this is simply theory, but i propose that turian smugglers or pirates or individuals simply not considering a “ traditional ” part of society have markings that go across or around the eyes and the eyes only. sid and vetra are the clearest example of this, thought nyreen also could be considered as one. color as well seems to play a part in the social hierarchy. from what we’ve seen  (  see the previous three examples  )  turian markings are often white, peach-ish, silver, or blue. red is worn by both sid and nyreen, and vetra is the only one known to have purple markings. my best assumption is that the more brightly colored, the farther outside the hierarchy the individual lives.
PLACE OF BIRTH/”ETHNICITY” ! finally i can reference canon again! like i quoted earlier, after the unification wars “most turians still wear the facial markings of their home colonies.” of course the turian population, because it is a galaxy-faring race it has a total “canon” population  (  counting palaven and all the listed colonies in canon  )  of 22 trillion people, though most likely more, has countless family groups and colonies. in the past, specifically just after the unification wars, we know that there were very few colonies left. this could result in the similar markings between turians thought to be completely different: they’re from the same colony! though i think that familial markings are more prominent than the colony ones, it must have some type of significance.
FACTORS THAT MAY CHANGE AN INDIVIDUAL’S MARKINGS
CHANGE IN STATUS: example: nyreen kandros ! she’s known to had “ abandoned “ her family in favor of another life on omega. it’s safe to assume she changed her facial markings because she does not have matching markings as her cousin, kandros does.
MARRIAGE: this is a personal headcanon of mine, and i would like to simply put it out there as an idea. for turians, marriage is truly a union. unlike humanity, who for much of their history regarded women as second-rate and ‘property’ of men, there is no social difference between males & females in turian society. you ‘worth’ in society is determined by your military prowess, not your genitalia. when turians marry, they will often redo their facial markings so that it is a combination of the two markings. some may completely change their markings to match their partners’.
MORE TBA
thank you for reading, i hope you enjoyed reading my RIDICULOUS LONG headcanon post! I hope you like it, and i hope i don’t sound too crazy lmao !! here are a couple good links if you wanna see more about facial markings

Omg! Lucy usually directs high intensity episodes! 5x22 is gonna be gooood. I hope the arc this season will be good. Don't let us down, writers 😣 I'm sure it will be great, considering Kitty is in there. I just read the original "The Illustrious Client" in which Shinwell and Kitty are introduced. I think Gruner will return, that sick freak. On an unrelated note: Do you think Watson is truly happy? Do you think she was far happier in the initial seasons?
Okay I’ll address your season 5 subjects first…and then you’llhave to endure my JWDB ranting I’m so sorry…
I haven’t read “The Illustrious Client” in so long, I haveno memory of it. I should probably get on that. How similar were the depictionsof Shinwell and Kitty do you think? I’m really curious of anyone’s opinions onhow Elementary compares to the canon, I just haven’t looked at the canon insooooo long.
Oh my god, if Kitty was in an episode that Lucy directed I would die withhappiness. I’m not sure the stars will align so that can happen, but OMG do Ihope.
Can you tell me why you think Gruner will return? Does ithave to do with “The Illustrious Client”? I am super curious as to how Kitty’s return to New York will beexplained. Someone will have had to pull some strings for her. I hope it isn’tMorland… *rolls eyes* His magic fix for Sherlock in 4x01 was frustrating enoughsince the writers had no interest in addressing the ramifications of that. (Orthe ramifications of Sherlock’s relapse but that’s a whole other discussionentirely.) It just screams deus ex machina to me.
The question of Joan’s happiness is a tricky one to answer, because the writers just refuse to address her emotions in the first place. They want us to assume she’s happy, I think, because they refuse to evenquestion if she’s happy or not, not since episode 3x19, the last time hertrauma over Andrew’s death was addressed. Since that episode Joan has beenmagically “fixed” emotionally, indefinitely. Yes, in 5x01 we got a Joan who wasfeeling dissatisfied that she could no longer help people heal like she had asa surgeon. But then as soon as Shinwell’s storyline got going, the writers must’vewanted us to assume he was the single solution to her issue, her emotionaldissatisfaction. Regardless, they chose to never address Joan’s feelings abouther personal ambitions, wants/needs, satisfaction with her life ever again. Forthe next 12 episodes anyway. We have 11 episodes to go, maybe they’ll give us afew more crumbs.
My headcanon has long been that Joan chose to move back intothe brownstone as a way to further bury her trauma over Andrew’s death. Livingwith Sherlock, making her life revolve around the Work rather than the otherway around, was her coping mechanism. Sherlock is least likely to question hercoping mechanisms after the events of 3x19. She’s socially isolated herself, and even though the writers seem to want us to assume (again) that she has ahealthy social life after 3x19, there’s no evidence to point to that (Emily’sbrief appearance in season 4 does notcount). Joan’s dating life was often brought up prior to season 3. Andrewwas her boyfriend from 3x01 to 3x13, then he was killed. Since then, Joan hashad no dating life, no mention of adating life, no discussion of her lack of a dating life. The absence of itsmention suggests its absence altogether. I believe her trauma is the reason forthat, it’s an obvious conclusion to make, but the troubling thing (the beyondfrustrating thing) is the writers willnot address it. Not since 3x19. Has Andrew’s name even been mentioned since3x19? I’m afraid the answer is no.
What makes it so unfair is that Sherlock got a love interestin Fiona, and even though he broke up with Fiona in 5x06, at least his emotions regarding his dating life wereaddressed (with Joan acting as his support like she always is). Gregson gota love interest (and Sherlock gave him f*cking engagement rings for goodnesssake). Marcus got a love interest who’s been featured in two episodes so far. Joan has got nothing. The discrepancy isso obvious it’s disgusting. That’s why beanarie and I are freaking out about5x13. Joan got to show emotions that hadnothing to do with her being a Caregiver to other people. SHE GOT TO BESTRONG AND VULNERABLE AT THE SAME TIME. She got to Emote, she got to becomforted, she got to feel. She gotto be the most important person in the case! I don’t want to think about thelast time that’s happened. Joan isnot treated as a co-lead by the writers, and it’s been obvious for so long it’sjust deplorable.
