it's such a bummer seeing how much care was put into va's adaptation immediately after watching the stone ocean anime tho.....like when i was watching that i was sure that they'd at least put that va flair on the really iconic scenes like when jolyne set herself on fire but even that felt very stilted and dull. most fights felt like the characters standing around and delivering their lines before going into the action, but i feel there was much more of a dynamic combination of action and conversation in va.....i thought most of pucci's scenes and his fight with weather report were great tho
#don't animate steel ball run just do stone ocean again but better#but i was like why am i bored during the sports maxx arc this one's so good#i was going to say at least dragon's dream was a bit less awful bc that part almost made me drop the manga#but in return they made planet waves a total slog to get thru so whatever. and i think yo yo ma is bad in both versions

"All right, this kick was for Gloria... looks like I broke your nose. But, just imagine that it was Gloria who just busted your face. And this is also for Gloria!!! They're all for Gloria!!!! This one, and this one, and this one, and this one, and this one, and this one, and this one, and this one, and this one, and this one!!!!!!" - Ermes Costello.

Jojo Monthly Redraw [6/9] - Stone Ocean
This is the 6th of a total of nine drawings I'll do throughout the year. I'll be redrawing one scene from each part of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, from Phantom Blood to The Jojolands.
Jolyne is, in fact, my fav Jojo main, but I wanted to choose a scene without her. At first, I wanted to draw something around the battle of Ermes against Sport Maxx, I think it was great and that scene of invisible Maxx covered in blood was full of impact, but I'm an apprehensive person, and I thought it'll be very discomforting for me to draw that... and I remembered the end of that battle. That scene was beautiful, and I cried a bit... Ermes is an amazing character, isn't she?
Next month is Steel Ball Run!
More of my art!

That looks like a really nice pan do you know the name of it?-looking for a big pan so I can cook a lot of 🧅
it's a three-ply 11 inch stainless-steel Viking! it's oven and dishwasher safe and I got it at tj maxx for like a third of the actual price. it's a good big pan, highly recommend!
I also recommend just cruising discount stores for decent cookware at actually affordable prices (watch out though, they also have the terrible cookware)

MAXX STEELE (1984) built by CBS Toys for IDEAL. While ‘just’ a toy, this robot is based on the 65C02 microprocessor with 2K RAM, and an expansion port on its chest. User programmable with up to 255 program steps, able to move, generate music and speak from a vocabulary of around 140 words and word particles. It can move around and use its working claw to pick up and carry objects. “He was the toy every kid wanted for Christmas in 1984 and was displayed like a God in a plexiglass barricade at Toys R' Us for his upcoming release, which only made you want him even more. He could do everything. He carried sodas, played games. You could even teach him to sing Hey Jude, if you had the time and a ton of patience. He was just awesome, and very easily broken. Criticized for being made of easily breakable plastic and faulty wiring which failed in almost every one, though awesome, poor MAXX met his demise after only 5000 units made. I'm not sure what happened to all of the MAXX robots that were ever sold. I think most kids played MAXX until he was broken and then he was thrown away or sold in garage sales and just kinda dissappeared off the map. Though production died, his spirit lived on and Maxx is now one of the most sought after toys of the 80's, and even though he had his problems (who doesn't?), he's still considered one of the top 10 robots of the 80's.”

Jojolion Ch. 33-38
This is the "Every Day is a Summer Vacation" arc, named for Jobin Higashikata's general attitude about life. I don't like Jobin very much, but he dies at the end, so it's cool, I guess.
Picking up from last time, Yotsuyu Yagiyama tried to convince Tsurugi to betray Josuke by suggesting he could cure the Rock Disease. To prove it, Yotsuyu brought some dog that petrified in front of Tsurugi, and then Yotsuyu fed it a piece of fruit and it returned to normal.
But Josuke defeated Yotsuyu, with an assist from Norisuke and just as Yotsuyu died, he insisted that Tsurugi's actions were correct. So Josuke's starting to think that fruit of his might actually have some potential as a cure, for both Tsurugi and Holly.
Now, the boys are trying to catch the dog. I'm not quite sure why, unless they want to learn more about it, or Tsurugi wants it as a pet. I mean, both of those things happen, but I'm not sure where the impulse to find the dog came from.
Josuke returns from town with some Sesame Honey snacks for Yasuho, probably a make-good for their date which Tsurugi interrupted. But Norisuke already sent her home. He doesn't understand how Josuke feels about her, and besides, he doesn't want outsiders involved in what he considers a family matter. Never mind that Tsurugi and Yotsuyu already got her involved. Anyway, this is another reason why I don't like the Higashikata Family very much. They're always coming between Josuke and Yasuho, or just shoving Yasuho aside so they can do their dumb bits and show off their horrible character designs. We could be gazing deep into Yasuho's beautiful eyes right now, but nooooo, we gotta look at Norisuke's life jacket vest and tennis ball hair. Also Tsurugi's dress that he got from TJ Maxx.
Norisuke takes charge, like every dipshit who thinks running a business makes you Captain America or something. Apparently the guy they fought in the last arc wasn't even remotely human, so Norisuke did some checking and he's pretty sure there really was an architect named Yotsuyu Yagiyama, but this Rock Human creature must have stolen his identity and replaced him at some point.
Also he sent Yotsuya's remains off for "chemical analysis" which...
Look, I'm a professional chemist, and I'm wincing at the thought of this conversation.
"Hi, I brought you a sample, and I need a chemical analysis." "This looks like gravel." "It's definitely not gravel. Whoa, man. It's weird stuff, that's for sure." "Well where did it come from? What can you tell me about it?" "Oh, sure. My great-grandfather won second prize the Steel Ball Run in 1891. He returned to Morioh, and invested his winnings in the fruit import business. I inherited that business, and I run the second most successful fruit parlor in Japan." "What... does that have to do with the sample?" "I own a fruit parlor, and I designed the glasses that we serve the parfaits in!" "And you found this in your parfait? Is that what you're saying?" "Oh, not at all. We only serve the highest quality of fruit, which we grow on our family orchard. That's where the sample came from, but I can't tell you exactly how it got there." "Well what do you need me to do with this, exactly?" "Oh, just run a full analysis." "For what? What are you trying to find out?" "Everything. I just need to know what it is." "Okay, but this gallon jug you brought me only has about a teaspoon of sample in it. I can't do a lot of testing with this." "Mostly I want to know what sort of weird powers he might have had. Oh! And is there any way you can find out what his penis looked like? I'm very interested in how his species has sex." "Why are there tennis balls in your hair?"
Anyway, they notice the dog coming out of the wall of this underground bunker of theirs, and that's probably how they found out the dog is the same kind of creature as Yotsuyu. So it's like a Rock Dog. Tsurugi eventually names him "Iwasuke", which I think means "rock dog" No, it means "rock help"? I don't get it.
Anyway, the dog was trying to get onto the bed Yasuho was sleeping on, because there was a piece of fruit there. Josuke spots it and says he saw the same fruit in Yotsuyu's possession during their fight. Tsurugi gets all excited becuase he thinks he just needs to eat this and he'll be safe from the Rock Disease, but Norisuke wants to investigate it first.
Fortunately, Norisuke's a fruit expert from a long line of fruit experts, and his Stand, King Nothing, can track objects by smell. Since the fruit is fresh, it must have come from a tree native to Japan, or someone brought it in recently from overseas. So King Nothing will be able to track down the source, at least if it's in range. Also, King Nothing can partially recreate the appearance of the tree that the fruit came from, so that's kind of helpful. Norisuke likens the fruit to a fig of some sort.
But never mind that, Norisuke wants to show off his fruit parlor in downtown Morioh. He makes a big to-do about the "flow" of traffic down the street, and how shoppers will reach his shop after all the other stores and they'll be in the mood for a tasty snack, so it's perfect.
Also, they sell high-quality fruits just as they get to peak ripeness, like the $50 melons on display. Groceries are bullshit, says the rich asshole who inherited his fortune from three generations of rich assholes. "They want you to be satisfied with them being as cheap as possible." Fuuuuuuck.
So what happens when the fifty-dollar melons don't sell? Well, they don't want to sell them after they pass peak freshness, so they take all the overstock and make parfaits for the cafe on the second floor. That's what draws in the customers. They want a snack after shopping, and the second-floor parlor offers a nice view while they eat, and then they have to go through the fruit shop on the first floor on their way in and out, so they'll get a good look at the $50 melons. I guess someone buys them eventually? I don't really understand the business model, but then again, I don't care much for melons. To be fair, maybe I just haven't invested in the right melon.
Oh, and there's a whole bullshit thesis about how he designed the parfaits. He came up with the shape of the glass! It's....shaped like a glass! It has a spoon in it! So the girls can eat the parfait from the top down! As... opposed to what? Did they used to serve parfaits in sealed ampules? Klein bottles? Did they just dump the ingredients on the table and tell the customers to use their hands? And then Norisuke came in one day like an angel from on high and taught them a better way.
I don't get this. I genuinely can't tell if Araki is doing some trivia infodump thing like he often does, or if this is meant to illustrate Norisuke's life philosophy, or if it's satire designed to poke fun at vapid entrepreneurs. Josuke's impressed, but he was literally born a couple of a weeks ago. It all seems impressive, right until you give it any thought, like a TED talk hosted by an "idea guy". This is no less delusional than Joshuu weaving tall tales about his sexual exploits with Yasuho. I already decided Norisuke's an idiot a long time ago, but I still can't tell if Araki is in on that joke or not.
Anyway, then Jobin shows up and Norisuke didn't know he was back from his overseas trip. I'm not clear on what he was doing on this trip. Buying beetles for his collection and looking at other people's fruit, I guess. He and Norisuke are as thick as thieves, and there's no question that Jobin is Norisuke's favorite kid. But as they leave, Josuke notices that King Nothing has traced the scent of the mysterious fruit to Jobin.
Now, what's dumb about this is that Norisuke has no idea. I mean, his back is turned, so of course he doesn't see this, but that's not my point. I mean, it's his Stand. King Nothing's special ability is to seek out and identify objects by their odor, but what good is it if it doesn't tell the user when it finds something? For all Norisuke knows, King Nothing found a dozen of the fruits all over his own backyard, and it just couldn't show him because he wasn't physically present when it found them.
And this is how we all found out Noisuke wasn't the final boss of JoJolion. I've never been too deep in this fandom, but the thing about Part 8 was that it was by far the longest JoJo part, and we're already thirty-odd chapters into this but with no clue who the main antagonist is. Initially, it seemed like Josuke would have to fight the rest of the family, and Norisuke's the head of the household, so maybe he was the final boss. Then Yotsuyu showed up and Norisuke teamed up with Josuke, and they began to trust one another. So it can't be Norisuke, and it can't be Yotsuyu either because he's dead. So now Jobin shows up, and for the next thirty chapters or so it kind of looked like he might be the final boss. Or maybe there was no final enemy in this Part. Sure, we know the score today, but in 2017 no one knew what to make of it.
Josuke decides to find out what Jobin knows, but he doesn't want to involve Norisuke in his plan, because he can tell he wouldn't be able to handle this objectively. Jobin's keeping a secret from them, and Josuke won't let Norisuke get in the way, so he enlists the aid of Tsurugi instead. And we already know Tsurugi is so desperate for a cure that he'll cooperate with just about anyone to find it.
Tsurugi tells him exactly how to proceed, because he knows his father extremely well. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, because the kid had been psychoanalyzing Yasuho pretty accurately a few chapters back. Jobin had bought a stag beetle during his trip, because he's all into stag beetles, and he impulsively gave it to Josuke as a gift. Tsurugi suggests that Josuke ask him for advice on taking care of it, which will lead to Jobin showing off his collection of stag beetles, which will then give Josuke a chance to steer the conversation into which beetles would win in a fight.
And that leads Jobin to set up a competition. This dope's 32 or something, but he collects and fights beetles like some kid, and that's exactly what Tsurugi says. His dad's a bigger kid than he is, and he treats life like every days is a summer vacation. Josuke doesn't have to issue a challenge, he just kind of says that his beetle could probably defeat a smaller one in Jobin's menagerie, and Jobin's all excited to throw down. Josuke even offers to bet on the outcome, which makes Jobin even more excited, even though Josuke has nothing to wager. They agree that the loser will shave an eyebrow, just so there's something on the line.
I won't spend much time on the rules, although this whole arc is pretty cool. It's a Stand Battle, but it's all done through the beetles. Each guy has a paintbrush they can use to kind of aggrivate the beetles and make them fight, but they can't touch the beetles. At one point, Jobin suspects Josuke managed to get female beetle pheromones onto his brush to rile up his beetle, but it's not that simple. Instead, Josuke used tiny bubbles from Soft and Wet to trap female pheromones, which he then embedded in the border of the fighting stage. Even though Stand Users can see the bubbles, they're so small that Jobin and Joshuu wouldn't notice them. And Josuke can burst them at will giving his beetle a boost in aggression whenever he pleases.
Ultimately, Jobin's beetle leaves the stage, ceding the match to Josuke. He turns to leave, but Jobin wants a rematch with a different beetle. Josuke acts disinterested in this, but he "lets" Jobin talk him into it. He even idly suggests that Jobin could bet his new Lambroghini. Jobin doesn't even mind. That's how stupid rich he is. He agrees to that wager and says he wants to lick Josuke's eyeball if he wins. He just wants something weird for the satisfaction of winning.
Meanwhile, Yasuho is checking out pictures of Italy and there's a Lambo in the photo, and then there's one on TV, and she thinks she's hallucinating because she doesn't know she has a Stand. Then Tsurugi shows up and says they need her help for the second part of Josuke's plan.
Once Josuke has the Lambroghini keys, he'll pass them along to Tsurugi, and then Yasuho can get into the car's event data recorder and find out where it's been recently. This ought to lead them to the fruit tree they're after, since they know Jobin was in contact with one recently. Yasuho agrees, but she has no idea what a Stand is, so she doesn't see how she can help.
Back to the beetle room, Jobin's new beetle pick seems to do better this time, but these fights are done in 45-second rounds, because Jobin says that's how long a beetle's memory lasts. I guess after that it forgets that it's in a fight and they just sort of sit there. So they have to settle it in the second round.
Josuke asks about a strange fluid oozing from Jobin's beetle, and Jobin explains that it's wax. He made a hole in the back of the beetle's head with a screwdriver and put wax in the hole. As the wax melts... uh... the beetle fights more? I guess? I would think this would just kill the beetle immediately. Like, I can't see how you'd even make the hole. And wouldn't you need to be some sort of expert bug neurologist to know how to do it right?
Jobin even says Josuke can do it to his beetle if he wants, but how would he even know how to do it correctly? Joshuu asks if the hole will kill the beetle, and it almost looks like he's showing compassion for a living thing, but that doesn't sound like Joshuu at all.
But Jobin says it will die, but after about 20 minutes, which is more than enough time to settle the match. That sums up Jobin right there. He likes playing with these beetles, but he's totally fine mutilating and killing them to get what he wants. Maybe that's what Joshuu is so nervous about. It's not that he cares about the beetles, but he acts so desperate for Jobin's approval, and sometimes he even gets it, but deep down he knows Jobin would drill a hole in Joshuu's head and stuff it with wax if it suited his purposes.
What Josuke can't figure out is how Jobin is able to melt the wax whenever he needs it melted. But he uses Soft and Wet to carry bubbles of air away from Jobin's brush and over to a nearby thermometer, and finds that the air is very hot, enough to raise the temperature by 60 degrees. So somehow Jobin is able to increase temperatures, sending the heat to his brush and then into the wax, I guess. And during the second round, Jobin gets so into it that he accidentally reveals his Stand. Well, actually, he may not have been trying to hide it, since he may now know Josuke has a Stand of his own.
The Stand is a problem, because Josuke pressed Tsurugi about this while preparing for all of this beetle nonsense. But Tsurugi didn't know what his dad's Stand power is, so Josuke had to go in blind. But now he's got some idea what he's dealing with and...
Josuke wins the rematch. Jobin's beetle really fucks his beetle up, but it doesn't matter, because once Jobin melted the wax in its head, the beetle began to behave erratically. Joshuu suggests that there might have been poison in the wax. This is because Jobin warmed up his first beetle by pitting it against a hornet, and now somehow the hornet's remains have ended up near the table they're sitting at. I think the implication here is that Josuke managed to get venom from the hornet's stinger into the wax, but I'm not clear on this. Anyway, Josuke's beetle rallies and secures the kill.
Josuke takes the Lambo keys and leaves, but Jobin stops him. He finds this whole thing suspicious, because it's like Josuke planned this whole deal in advance, and not just to win a new car. What's he up to? Jobin says he won't let him out of the room until he finds out.
But that doesn't stop Josuke's plan, because he puts the keys in a soap bubble and floats it over to where Yasuho and Tsurugi are.
So while Jobin interrogates Josuke, that gives Yasuho plenty of time to hack the data recorder in the Lambo, except she has no idea how to do that. Then she gets a text message, and it asks her to choose between a flashlight or a box lunch. Tsurugi realizes that this might be how her Stand works, and he asks her to just pick one of the options.
Then they open the Lambo and it's Paisley Park time! Hell yeah she looks even cooler in full color. PP has that flashlight that Yasuho didn't particularly want, so now they can get down to business.
Meanwhile, Jobin uses his heat powers to give Josuke a nosebleed. I think the way it works is that Jobin has to touch something, then someone else to touch it, and the temperature increase is moved along that way. Maybe not. Anyway, Josuke gets out of this mess by using Soft and Wet's bubbles to activate the sprinkler system in the room. Jobin and Joshuu are so worried about the beetles drowning in their habitats that they don't see Josuke running out of the room until it's too late.
Joshuu wants to chase Josuke, because he's a dope, but Jobin's too smart and composed for that. Instead, he wonders who Josuke got his advice from. He had no idea about Jobin's interest in fighting beetles, so someone must have tipped him off, but who? Jobin can't bring himself to suspect somone else in the family, though. And maybe that's his biggest flaw right there.
Meanwhile, Paisley Park has accessed the data recorder and it shows Yasuho exactly where Jobin has been, but there's nothing unusual to be found. I guess he just drove straight home from the airport without stopping anywhere. Maybe he went to a Hucks to get an Ale 8-One. Wait, they probably don't have those in Morioh.
Jobin and Joshuu come down to the garage to search the Lambo, since that seems to be the only clue. Joshuu briefly adds up that they might be after the data recorder to track Jobin's recent movements, but he doesn't actually know why they would want to do that. I'm not sure how Joshuu even got this far. Maybe he caught a stray brainwave from Paisley Park? To be sure, there's a lot about Joshuu's own Stand that we don't know, since he almost never gets a chance to use it. Anyway, Jobin decides they won't find anything here, so they leave.
If you're wondering why they didn't find Yasuho and Tsurugi hiding in the floorboards, that's because they were in the minivan in the other bay. How did Yasuho know the keys were nearby? Because she had lit up the shelf with the flashlight she got from Paisley Park earlier. I'm curious to know how this would have played out if she'd picked the bento box instead.
Anyway, Yasuho also realized that she could access the security cameras from all the traffic lights Jobin stopped at while he was driving. I guess it just... came to her that she could do this? It's kind of unclear.
For example, when Trish Una discovered Spice Girl in Part 5, her Stand literally talked to Trish and explained how she worked. Other Stands are more intuitive, or they can be controlled directly, like Soft and Wet. Automatic long range Stands, like King Nothing, are basically just activated and that's it. You let the Stand do its task and you only decide when to start and stop it.
But Paisley Park seems like a combination of all three of those things. It's supposed to be an automatic Stand like King Nothing, except its ability involves gathering information to guide Yasuho forward. That means she can't just turn it on to put it in front of some smelly socks to tell it what to look for. She has to formulate a question and somehow communicate it to PP. And PP also has to communicate options and features to Yasuho. It doesn't talk to her like Spice Girl, but there's definitely some sort of communication happening.
So it feels like it's not exactly an "automatic long range Stand" at all. Yasuho seems to have a lot of interaction with it, although she can't control it directly like Soft and Wet. It seems to defy classification, although there have always been Stands that don't follow the rules.
Also, it's weird how Paisley Park can access all of these things, but it has to display them on electronic devices. I think PP can make its own screen, though? Wasn't that what it did in the Lambroghini, or was it just surrounding a screen in the dashboard that had always been there? It's just that I would think the Stand could simply display the footage from the cameras itself, or even send the images directly into Yasuho's mind, like VR or something. Maybe that would be too OP. Then again, it is helpful that it's on a phone, because that way she can show Tsurugi what she's discovered.
Turns out, Jobin and the fruit tree have been in recent contact, here at some random traffic light. He met some weird dude there, and he must have handed off the plant to him. But who is he? And why? And when?
Oh, wait, there's a timestamp right there. 4:38 P.M. Well, that's one question down, anyway...

And when you're just starting out or you're at a place where you don't have much money, try to spend MORE money on LESS tools.
Instead of an entire set of cheap non-stick pans, I bought one giant heavy bottomed stainless steel saute pan and one giant stock pot. I got them at one of those overstock sell off stores like TJ Maxx or Marshalls. They were very well priced, but still were like all of my discretionary budget for a whole paycheck at the time. They were so worth it though!
Those two pans, plus a hand-me down copper bottom saucepan from my mom lasted me through my first five years living on my own. And though I have added more pots and pans since, I still haven't replaced any of those originals. They are just as good as they were when I bought them.
forget everything anyone has ever told you on the matter the truest marker of adulthood is starting to hear the siren call of high quality kitchenware
