im making a bedrock addon! my initial goal was to overhaul and populate the deep dark, but there's some hardcoded spawn & worldgen rules messing with that plan, so all the new entities will just hang out below y=-40 until i become brave enough to add a new biome for them.

to be clear: i do not know if i'll be able to share this soon. it may be that i could put the files up in a google drive link to share, but then only pc and mobile players would be able to use them. it is my goal to put these guys up on the marketplace (for free, because i want them to be accessible), but as i understand it, i have to talk to microsoft and get them to let me put them up, and that could be a pain.

these guys are called kits, and they're meant to be baby wardens. they run around defending the depths of the Overworld caves from hostiles, and can be tamed and kept as pets with glow berries. more of their animations under the cut!

here's the run cycle that i spent over 2 hours on,

Earth Day

Earth Day. You remember that old thing, right? Today’s the day. Since all of my new “fine art” is supposed to about climate change, nature, water, earth and us I thought I’d remind you of my intent by showing you a small portfolio of what I’ve been doing these past three months. You’ve seen all of these images, but not like this, not as a collection. Happy Earth Day.

Sitting on the floor and chained to a wall the clone whimpers: "Please. Please let me go".

"Hehe, silly clone 1560C~ You're already free! There's a 'you' out there living a happy and fulfilling life. You're a copy of that person. Shouldn't that be good enough for anyone?" - says Shen.

"What do you want from me?" - asks the clone.

"Oh, right" - Shen reaches into his pocket and pulls out a little paper. It's a comic about a person tired when it's not sleep time and not tired when it's sleep time with the caption saying "wtf???".

"Do you find this comic relatable?..." - asks Shen.

"Y-... Yes?..." - hesitantly answers the clone. [transcript: "Yes?" end transcript.]

"Say it." - commands Shen, staring at the clone.

"This is sooo meee" - gives in 1560C. [transcript: "This is so me". end transcript.]

"Excellent. This should be a real hit with your real self then." - Shen puts the paper back into his pocket with a big smile. He opens his phone.

"Oh. He unfollowed me".

"Does that mean you'll set me free?" - asks the clone happily.

"In a sense", - says Shen, loading up a revolver.

"And that's how that relatable magic happens!" - happily exclaims Shen in the last panel. End description.]

I'm re-reading the Discworld series for reasons, and honestly the most relatable part of reading these as an adult is how many of the protagonists start out being tired, used to their little routine and vaguely disgruntled by the interruption of the Plot. Sam Vimes wants to lie drunk in a gutter and absolutely doesn't want to be arresting dragons. Rincewind is yanked into every situation he's ever encountered, though he'd much rather be lying in a gutter too. (Minus the alcohol. Plus regretting everything he's ever done said witnessed or even heard about fourth-hand in his whole life.) Granny Weatherwax is deeply suspicious of foreign parts and that includes the next town over; Nanny has leaned into the armor of "nothing ever happens to jolly grannies who terrorize their daughters-in-law and make Saucy Jokes"

Only the young people don't seem to have picked up on this---and that's fortunate, because someone has to run around making things happen, if only so Vimes and Granny and Rincewind have a reason to get up (complaining bitterly the whole time) and put it all to rights. Without Carrot, Margrat, Eric, etc. these characters don't have that reason; they're likely to stay in the metaphorical gutter and keep wondering where it all went wrong or why anything has to change.

............well, that's not quite true. You get the sense that Vetinari knows how much certain people hate the Plot. And as the person sitting behind the metaphorical lighting board of Ankh-Morpork, he takes no small pleasure in forcing the Plot-haters specifically to stand up, and say some lines.
